I read the icon theme wrong..thought it was just any flower
but beautiful anemones all
Hi, Jill. :)
faux are you anywhere near Pilot Hill?
that was Monday's theme, west -- the anemone is Tuesday's.
or do you know it?
Hello JC, how goes it?
Oh thanks jill, flosey!

I'm near Yosemite westford.
hi JC
Well...it goes.
Hi, flosey.
di 7/40

Pilot Hill that is
How goes it for you, Jill?
A bit far from me.
my sil and her husband have written a series of books on CA Yosemite is their second home they even got married there
Just fine, thanks, JC -- went to Victoria yesterday and back today, visiting bro and sis in law.
Used my new GPS for the first time and it really helped.
oh sounds interesting westford!
I'll put the url to their website in my profile if you're interested
Oh yes thank you.

the weather has been so beautiful in the North East
hi, marigold
well, it's 20F warmer now that i'm home :) The weather was lovely up there though -- pleasantly warm days, and enough blankets that the nights were comfy in the tent for us :)
where is Olivebridge?
on the Ashokan Resevoir in Ulster County NY, a bit W and S of Kingston
and were they playing Ashokan Farewell?
not far from Woodstock
fireworks
congrats, Dee

Yay dee !!
YAY dee!!!
ty
I like that way better than Volare
may I help anyone before I poof?
you went camping with a chef??
no thanks dee still too many
Yes, three chef-prepared hot meals a day, and snacks to get through the night :) and chocolate available 24h a day
no thanks, dee, have a great night :)
now that's my kind of camping
a sauna open 24h, skies dark enough to see the Milky Way....
really roughing it, eh dc!
Hi, Seain!
morning, JC
It's not quite my sort of 'camping'. ;)
well, we had to walk halfway down the mountain for seminars, bathing, and food, and back up to sleep.
so, we got our exercise
haha JC
yes you did good all around
no room service..tent service?
alas not, west. and the usual camp area was closed due to the New York City Department of Environmental Protection releasing 300k thousand gallons of water into Esopus Creek, which splits the property in two
NBT
hence, hiking up and down the mountain :)
well done jilli
go, go jilli!
wtg jilli
they could have waited a few days seain
wtg jili
good morning... only here for 10 min or so.... or will be late for work ;)

stats for E in column 3 and 4 please?
sneezing now that home. will buy new filter for AC tomorrow
ei4 barak!
as in obama?
Ellie (the dog) is not really the problem... it is her surrounding adults (including my hubby). She does shed, but I managed with tylenol sinus not to get plugged up. The adults lead her astray.... like in the woods, on the bed, on some of the furniture...
as in end of Ramadan
with extra vowel at end
el5 is something that french does, as in l'orange
el6 is past of that verb
I'll bet she loved the attention
we had a dog named Ellie short for Eleanore. She was a yellow lab
Eleanore was my boss lol
hi and nbt
she really is a good dog... as good as dogs go.... last time we "dogsat" I let her on the ottoman, but not the couches, and she remembered until our daughter coaxed her up
hi and wtg josh
hi, josh
hello josh
hi josh
I paid our daughter back.... I gave her a treat of peanut butter ...
phant -- diadem
we never let our dogs on the furniture but we knew they were up there as soon as we left the room
do you call phantom a word you think is there because the letters are almost there?
cats are another story lol
what kind of dogs?
yes var
ok
pretty much, varumba. a word that is almost there and drives us nuts seeing it
big ones Springer Spaniel, Yellow Lab, Golden Retriever and Heinz 57
thanks . how about the I in 5th column for stats?
id4,5
id4/5, 5/14
Oh have you got that URL westford? I want to check it before I go off to sleep.
wow... Ellie now weighs over 60 pounds, so when she jumps up on my legs, I know it
I'll get it now faux
Which URL is that, Laura?
thanks
nbt - 24 words
Hi, Howie. :)

"only" a teacher? One of the most important professions...
Oh thanks westford. Looks good!

yvw faux I think you'll like them
Hello everyone.

half way, off to bed now, goodnight all
yay... my net is working again.. it was really down for the count!
hi m9 :)
I am intrigued by your Japanese lanterns West
bye jilli
hi, m9
I thought you made a quick getaway lol
hi seain!
yes they are beautiful, west
Got it bookmarked westford. I love stuff like that. :)
I had the wrong icon lyn thought this was Monday
alrighty, not quite halfway, but finally getting sleepy
Hi m9
so, i'm going to brush my teeth, read a bit, and off to dreamland, hopefully :)
good night seain sleep well. I'll have the chef bring you breakfast
goodnight DC, sweet dreams
bye dc sleep tight
phant opioid
LOL west.
bye dcseain
thanks, yall, and have a great day/night each and every one :) {poof}
I'm always a day off on icons too west... when I think to do them..
lyn for my birthday my granddaughter gave me a vase with japanese lanterns and bamboo it's beautiful
Good night to you, Seain. x
the holiday messed me up
in fact I was off to look for a new icon when my puter went down
I am jealous. These plant japanese lanterns or paper ones?
excuses, excuses, excuses, m9... :)
real plant ones, I bet
they're plants but only the bamboo has roots
i am still battling to learn my new mac, beginning to feel i am too old for change
give yourself a week, andree
hi Andree, just hang in there, you are never too old for change. It just takes a little longer to get used to it.
The g'kids are too young to help Andree?
I will have to plant them in a pot last house we lived in the bamboo literally took over the back yard
icon changed
lol yes bamboo is prolific
its been 2 weeks josh but because i use windows in the office i will take a while to get used to this one
when i got my first mac years ago it took me a solid week before everything felt normal, and now i can't imagine going back
what do you have andree?
macs are so user friendly
wow m9! You look so errrrr tentacly!
Pretty m9. By the way, I admired your acro of antidisestablishmentarianism on Yahoo.
my grandaughter gave me a lesson lynxxx, don't think she realised what she was dealing with, she lost me
thank you.
Ah yes. That was quite amazing, m9. No one else managed to come up with anything!
I was looking forward to seeing what others came up with.. ...LOL
was this picture taken before or after that sea salt face mask, m9?
morning
oh my that scares me even to think of it
morning Katie
I am sure you could buy a Macs for Dummies book - and then you could work at your own speed Andree
hi katie
hi Katie
anyone use linux?
save up any questions and I'll pass them along to my son the mac addict
I wish. Still want to learn it though.
Well you saw the reactions of a couple of others to seeing that as the daily word, m9.
yes! I did!
can go to the apple store for lessons for the next 3 months, its just a case of getting there
for some reason the "and now that I digress" just popped out at me and then it kind of fell into place...
making time and energy, Andree? Isn't always easy, I know.
what good after sales service
so, m9, I take it you don't want to talk about it?
I didn't expect anyone to give it a try!
about what??
huh??
did I miss something?
the thing that happened to your face
i can phone them as often as i like in those 90 days too
my face?!?!??!
a couple of my posts, apparently, lol
oh.. my face turned into an anemone?
lol m9 you changed the picture but not your explanation
must have been something you ate
I checked your icon, m9. And asked if that was before or after the sea salt face mask?
oh! LOL I always do that!
not a healthy park!
not much place for an anemone to grow in Winnamucca!
it IS a very pretty one though
there. fixed.
fastest makeover I have ever witnessed. And why your parents? Good memories?
When my mother died, my father mixed up her ashes with some marine grade cement in a little bucket and let it set. And then he threw her off the Coho in the Straits of Juan de Fuca.
soory I;m late,,was watching CBS
hi PAV!
andree has/had a question about macs?
hi pav
wow that is beautiful, m9.
hi pav
hi PAV, long time no see! *hugs*
He said to me: "you know.. people get buried and maybe for a few years someone remembers to put flowers on their grave..but after a while it's just folks like your Aunt who travels and finds the gravestones of her ancestors and cleans them off.. because they get forgotten.
What bigger twon is Winnamucca close to, m9? I couldn't find it in my Road Atlas.
are you enjoying your staycation?
not really pav, jusst taking me a while to grasp the differences and as i use windows all day it makes it harder
But this way.. those little sea anemones will attach on there..and your mom will always have flowers."
such a sweet thought m
oh m9, that's beautiful!
That's a beautiful id4/5 -- almost got me.
hi sprite and west,,,too much fun here doin' nuttin!!
hi pav
so now.. I always think of my dad telling me that.
were you watching Hawaii 50?
jilli: http://tinyurl.com/23jbp67
I now have the Hawaii 5-0 theme in my head!LOL
I switched to a Mac-mini almost three years ago...right after Macs came up with the option to split the hard drive and allow Windows...used Windows for the better part of a year without difficulty and worries on the Mac. 2nd year in it came crashing real hard...almost fried the hard drive..but the Mac side was perfectly fine...
very special and loving, m9.
I was watching NCIS LA and Blue Bloods...Hawaii 5-0 is next
hey...it's winnemucca!LOL
we do that too only they get piled up
am coming over to pop my butt on your couch and watch with you, PAV. Love your taste :)
so far Blue Bloods looks good
Thanks, sprite -- why didn't I think of that???
Of course, I thought it was in Oregon...
I've been using the Mac now as a Mac with no Windows for over a year and a half..again. Work is strictly Windows, thankfully not Vista yet
Tom Selleck... how can they go wrong?
Tom Selleck sure looks old though lol
and Pav makes delish cheesecakes too
lol jilli, I still grab a dictionary when I want to know a word... we are from generations that used BOOKS!
ooh yes !! what was your last one pav?
In August Apple replaced my hard drive and optical drive when they failed...free of charge!
sprite I still like books too
yes i must say apple's after sales service is great
:D west, for us books will never die.
gosh, it's been a while with the cheesecakes...I think a choc raspberry on a raspberry cookie crust (homemade raspberry cookies)
my husband was so nice and put a book I wanted on his iPad. I told him I'd read it on the plane
oh wow
oh pav sure wish you lived closer
ooooo drooooool! Ok, it is a date then, PAV?
and good evening to you also Dame Jilli!
chocolate and raspberry mmmm
sure Sprite...is there a particular flavor I should be making?
somehow sitting with a child on your lap with an ipad doesn't seem cosy to me.
pav we'll be in Phoenix for 30 minutes in Dec
the one you just mentioned sounds great!
my daughter was sitting there the other night readind a good book on her ipad, didn't look fun to me, how can you beat a book
if you give me more details I can try to run one through security for ya!
books are cozy. A reader can never be cozy. But practical.
if it's a good book on an ipad..is it still a "page-turner"??
pagescroller maybe?
I bet they'd find a reason to confiscate it
I think the pages "turn" on iPads
from what I understand, yes , you still turn pages on the iPad...much like flipping pages in the online adverts from Target (pronounced tar-jay)
we'll be going to San Diego to spend Christmas with our daughter and sil and we only have 30 minutes to change planes
hubby loves his iPad now he wants the 4G iphone
that is tight, west
I know sprite hope we make it
do they have children's books on those? pictures?
je
Ask G, Jill - he has an iPad.
they do m
undoubtedly, m9
ooh...that's a tight turn around...flying SW? or a premium airline? ( I don't do SW - they lost my luggage back in 1984...I don't forget, and I can't forgive...)
I have a friend here who has one too, JC ;)
comes with Winnie the Pooh
SW pav still like them
lol PAV, well as long as you are just as tenacious when it comes to love...
Delta used to lose our luggage all the time
wow. But I doubt they'd have our faves. Like The Hat. And The Practical Princess....
they might
I know you can order from Amazon
if they don't, they will soon, m9. It is a fast growing market.
and there are loads of freebees
I just googled that title...and none of the ones I'm seeing are the one we have.. hmm...
I just googled that title...and none of the ones I'm seeing are the one we have.. hmm... it's in Aiden's room or I'd look at the particulars..
I'm getting older by the second, and I still am holding out for Miss Right...I have until retirement to sweep her off my feet...
I'm getting older by the second, and I still am holding out for Miss Right...I have until retirement to sweep her off my feet...
just make sure her first name isn't 'Always'
Very funny, westford. ;)
that's my name West!
there should be one for you, PAV. You deserve the best.
LOL west!
and I hate the midnight hiccups!
I think they keep getting longer and longer
"Po4 Jud is daid, po4 Jud Fry is daid..." but daid doesn't count here :(
drop by for a stay, PAV. You can have 9.00 am hiccups!
I just went out and read about the MB recall on USA Today...
yikes. 2 used at amazon.. starting at 54 dollars!
really? 9 am hiccups?
that was righteous jilli
jilli, neither is turkish delide!
yikes is right m but keep looking
yep, they happen here at 9 am. 7 minutes ago.
oh, ok...It's midnight ish here...
hubby was looking for a cookbook I wanted and the first price was $84 he got it for $3.85
wow gret
our copy is very old... I don't know if I'll be able to find another with all the artwork. Looks like it's been combined with other stories into a paperback...
great* even
nice west!
Someone's In The Kitchen With Dinah ever heard of it?
we are living worlds apart, PAV... and yet so close ;)
Dinah Shore!
that's right
my copy was dirty and the spine was destroyed and the covers were gone
so many good recipes
I think I need to travel...the (future) wife can carry my bags in one hand and be balanced with her jewelry on the other
My old Better Homes cookbook is disintegrating
we need to have a talk pav lol
the ladies left one here jilli
m9: http://www.youtube.com/watch?hl=en &v=kcPk1-UjHKQ&gl=US lol
I remember that book
well, I do want her posture to be even...nothing too heavy
those ladies are priceless!
I have an updated version
but the updated version doesn't have lots of the old recipes.

I love when we sing
:D
now I want to watch the Sound of Music
was thinking the same thing. Want to see that scene near the end when they get the whole public singing that song... like a huge protestation against the nazi's and nothing anyone can do about it.
that was so inspiring
makes me hopeful, now with the Geert Wilders asshole in the government.
is that his name or his party?
his name. Party is PVV. Translated it means Party for the Freedom. "we come in peace and shoot to kill, shoot to kill, shoot to kill..."
doesn't sound very peaceful
no it is one of those names that serve as a front, while behind it the opposite is going on. I think he is a very dangerous man.
how on earth did he get voted in?
or did he just squeak by?
he is frighteningly smart, west. He knows how to speak to some groups, work on their feelings and worries.
well hopefully the people will be smarter and vote him right out
nope, they got quite a few votes. Not enough to rule, but too many to be left out. The bigger parties needed him to make a majority. First they were adamant about not being willing to work with him. Now they say they will 'condone' him.
can you tell it scares me?
I just googled him what a trouble maker
The name Bush mean anything to you -- he'll probably get a second term and do as much damage to your country as W did to ours.
he is. A big one.
Christine, indeed.
oh, funny icon!
I really don't like it when young people say they aren't going to vote they don't realize how much each vote counts
so very true. Better go and vote for a minor party if you cannot decide.
I think it was Sandyloo who said they fine you in Australia if you don't vote
just got the 8
I remember years ago, a woman said we generally vote against someone, not for the other candidate
as for Geert Wilders: so now he is a le7/36 while I just wish he were a de7 (not valid, the de7)
I guess there is a lot of truth in that
yes, I completed my early ballot this morning... had to look some candidates up for more info on them..
that is not such a bad id4, west

I am trying to take care of my husband, whose pain is getting worse and worse....and his doctor "forgot" to call back after I left him 5 messages and sent him a fax!
oh no ruby
is it his back?
sorry to hear that, rubyfoo. Pain can be so very tough to handle when one isn't used to it.
Sorry to hear that - I was about to ask how he is doing.
when the dog took him down, he hurt his back, but because of the severeity of the bites, he didn't notice his back pain for a month. He's had an x-ray, but can't handle the pain
if it's anything like here it's the staff that didn't give him his messages
no, it's very small here and I spoke with his wife. The problem is that there are only 3 doctors for two villages
what did the x-ray show?
finally, yesterday I went to the pharmacy and put on a real performance (tears and all) to get him some pain meds without a prescription. I should get an Academy Aware!
fireflies. Sorry to leave you but have to take care of bills. Bye all, have fun. Rubyfoo, tell your husband I am wishing him well and a speedy recovery. Tell him to breathe into the pain. Prevents tensing up more, which would bring more pain.
a nerve is pinched in his lumbar spine. He is just not used to pain and is a real baby. If he had to live with what many of us have all the time, he couldn't!
yay sprite !! and good advice
He won't even let me massage him
yay sprite, but he won't listen
a pinched nerve is no laughing matter
is he taking the meds?
don't massage with a pinched lumbar.
ruby - don't underestimate back pain. I have a high pain threshold but a slipped disc nearly made me faint. He will be in agony, he's not a baby.
actually, I tried to do his shoulders and upper back, just to relax him because he gets so tense and crazy
he continues to lift heavy things, against all advice
I had a hernia when I was living alone. If anybody would have suggested a shoulder massage I would have told them to go whatsit themselves.

A fitting di4/8 to mark the passing of Dame Joan Sutherland.
When did that happen?
Yesterday - or at least it was reported here last night.
Some of her appearances were played on the news. What a voice!
KUSC is an all-classical station in Los Angeles, and they played some of her recordings last night. The volume was low, so I didn't hear if it was a tribute program.
I'm sure it would have been, Christine.
She died in her home in Switzerland.
Hi, back. Our news mentioned that, as a schoolgirl she failed 'choir' as she was considered too loud
Oh goodness, lynxxx, if only they had known!
Any news on the employment front, lynxxx?
not yet, interview was good...and they had a sofa for sale which I really like! We had gone shopping for one on the weekend coincidently
Staff discount?
lol. Even I am not that cheeky. (yet)
Dame Joan Sutherland Had a beautiful ♪ ♫ ♪ ♫ ♪ ♫ singing voice ♪ ♫ ♪ ♫ ♪ ♫
Still, it would be a nice perk, wouldn't it?
what a clever Zooz
very nice perk indeed - keep your fingers crossed for me
Hello, zooz. I have her singing in the background (youtube) with Pavarotti. Gorgeous. And lovely notes from you as well!
fingers crossed for you Lynxxx
They'd be a fool to take anyone else, lynxxx. Tell them the babblers will get them otherwise.
Hi, Haz, yes i watched a couple from youtube, good source of music videos from there.
It's amazing - so much variety.
It means my husband won't get part old age pension though. $350 a fortnight possibly lost! but he will still get a pensioners card which means quite a few savings. Goody!
Has he been retired for quite a while, lynxxx?
No - he has just hit 65 but is still working part-time. Me working part-time will mean there is no pension $s
Okay. The way things are going over here, some people will have to work until they drop, meanwhile others will never work a day in their lives. The system's just a little mad.
I can see now why my father was constantly juggling his finances when he retired - to make sure he got the old age pension. It is quite funny
It is not bad here - as long as you own your home and you don't want any extras/luxuries. Most people have some level of personal Superannuation nowadays to supplement any pension.
Superannuation?
Hi everyone
I'll leave lymxxx to explain superannuation! Hello, bichon.
Retirement funds....Employers have been obliged to pay a % of annual wage to Superannuation fund/s over your employment lifetime. Accessible only at official retirement age. Started at 5% now 10% I believe. Most took a dive with the GFC though
hi Bichon
Okay, a pension as it's called here.
Government initiative late 80s when they realised all the baby-boomers would hit retirement age and drain Government coffers
Not a pension, but Social Security. This also included Medicare, health insurance.
A pension here is not your 'own' money but Government benefit based on your assets or income - about $20,000 pa for a couple over 65
I'm desperately hoping that zooz will be able to explain the British system.
The Superannuation is your 'own' money to do with what you will after you reach retirment age
I guess that's different from hee. Social Security isn't based on anything after you fulfill a basic pay in
Iwas able to retire at 65, but the age requirement is pushed up, noe. My daughter will need to work until 67, and her husband who is a couple years younger will work yuntil he's 69.
thats easy, `C.R.A.P`
So eloquent, zooz!
lol
We have IRAs which are ubdividual retirement accounts, tax free until you start to withdraw the funds, when you expect your tax bracket to be lower.
They started that here too Christine...I reckon they are hoping people will die on the job before they need a pension!
I started taking Social Security at 62, when I retired. But, I have it in an interest bearing account and will repay it when I'm 70. Then I can collect at ta higher rate and keep the interest. Sounds confusing
oops *individual
i think thats the idea Lynxxx, cost effective i think they prefer to call it.
thank God, I have my social securiy payment, and a pension payment from an emplyer, plus social security from UK
You hear that, zooz? We're sweating to keep Christine in luxury!
I have a husband who still works and I won't let him retire
yes, i was trying to work out how that works?
Really, I don't think there are many jobs that a 67 year old can do as effectively as a , say, 37 year old. (Yes I know there are exceptions but as a general rule) And really who is going to employ a 67 year old if they need a new one
Long hours down the mines for you and me so that Christine can babble. Life isn't fair.
I worked while you were all snoozing in your prams.
LOL
I was up sweeping chimneys before I could walk.
Now I know why.
I wish Christine
Well, Haz, as has been pointed out, someone needs to keep me in the lap of luxury.
(She's shameless, zooz. No conscience)
Apparently I could've received the UK soc.sec. payments at 60, but the notices went to my Mum & Dad;s address, and they'd moved.
i reckon, she is laughing at us, Haz while eating her luxury items..lol
talking of luxury, off to make a cup of tea.
How does that work Christine...you have been out of the UK for over 40 years haven't you?
I know. Us on beans on toast with the occasional beef dripping and she's on caviar and smoked salmon.
OOh I wonder if we could back claim UK soc Sec payments for my Dad (dec'd) he was born in UK
Hang on, there will be none left for me, when i retire in 26 years time...lol
I imagine there will be nothing left anyway - the government is crying poor already isn't it?
You should enquire, lynxxx. Meanwhile, I'll just add another shift at the mines.
I worked in UK, and they just kept putting interest inyo the fund for me. It's not a lot, but it's good to get. I know of a number of expats who don't get the money, for whatever reason. But I worked for it, so I'm not going to refuse it.
LOL
damn...well Dad left when he was about 18 months old - guess he didn't work
Don`t blame you Christine, get what you can, you worked for it afterall.
They'll probably say that he's due for a refund for donkey's years. Just when we thought we were getting on top of the deficit.
Woops - PB for me
I didn't realise I could get the money, after such a long time away, but another Englishwoman told me to apply. The irony is that she applied, they okayed payments, then rescinded.
Time for a cuppa -- anyone else want one?
yes pls - just white for me
ust got mine thanks christine, plus 4 teacakes :-)
4 ! that's a bit greedy...you don't think you should share them Zooz?
Not Tunnock's teacakes?
He's obviously building up his strength for a long day down the pits.
I think he has shoved them all into his mouth so he doesn't have to share and now he can't talk
sorry, had my mouth full..lol...no just normal teacakes, and cold with butter
I hope he hasn't put himself in danger of choking. 4 teacakes all at once can't be wise.
...and I bet he made them himself so they would be really yummy
i still have three here Lynxx, if you would like one?
Well, at least you can still have butter and you're not reduced to scrapings of marge. I wouldn't like Christine to have that on her conscience.
Yes please, especially if you made them
lol

BBS better go and make myself a tea to go with the cake. Christine is taking to long bringing one to me

Can I give a cryptic clue for di7/40? Begin with the girl's best friend, end with a singularly bad day for Julius Caesar.
I was reading tha Briain was going to do away with the children's allowance for wealthier families
*Britain
Morning everyone. Thanks for the di7 Haz!
That is correct Bichon, but there are ways round it, so i have heard.
They're going to do away with Child Benefit for people earning over a certain amount each year. I've always felt that it was a nonsense that the Government gave everyone money for having a child.
Nice clue, thanks for that one , Haz
That's something you'd never see here. I guess it was a good deal while it lasted
You're welcome - hello, Sally.
if you earn over £40,000 a year then you will not receive it, but if you and your partner earn say £22,000 each, then you can still claim
The idea was to give money directly to the mother for the benefit of the child. It started off as being a nominal sum but it escalated. It seemed crazy that very rich people should receive it when they didn't really need it.
They have [had] that in Germany too "Kindergelt"
I do agree, Haz, but some people will say "i have paid my taxes i am entitled to it"
even if they do not need it.
I can see all the arguments for and against, but common sense to me is that if the government is going to have to cut down on expenditure, here is a prime candidate for reform.
Common sense is the key thing , Haz, but it never seems to happen.
I did receive child benefit for my two girls and it always seemed a bit odd - their father worked to keep them, why should the government have to chip in?
And perhaps parents didn't actually spend the money to benefit their children
I, of course, was working long hours down the mine as well....
Let's be fair, times are hard for everyone, and if the child allowance means you can keep the little place in the country, the flat in Mayfair, the farm in Tuscany, and the yacht -- well what would YOU do ?
you are soo right on that one, Bichon, well on a few i know down my street.
LOL, Haz
That's the thing, bichon, there's no control over how the money is spent. Some people just put it into a savings account for the children, others probably spent it.
LOL, Christine.
Most other benefits here are means tested to a certain extent - universal child benefit was the exception.
I Had worked for over 30 years non stop, then when i got my depression this year i had to stop work & the truoble i had trying to get a little bit of assistance, was a nightmare.
That's awful, especially when you're not feeling up to a struggle.
they stopped my benefits after a while, so now i am living on my savings that i managed to save whilst at work..lol
The same goes for trying to claim things like Attendance Allowance. It's trying to work out what they want or need to hear in order to get the right boxes ticked.
Yes, Social Security Disability is very difficult to get here, especially if it's due to depression
Did you try Citizen's Advice, zooz?
Phone.
Attendance allowance?
Yes, they said once the government doc says you are ok to work, not much more you can do, my doc told them to do a re-exam, but only scored 9/15 points..so no joy, went to claim, JSA, but then got DVT, so have to go through the whole process again..lol
To change the subject, I've been watching Law & Order UK. Do the attorneys and judges feel strange wearing those wigs?
bichon,my cousin is a barrister and he says you just get used to it.
Attendance Allowance, is for people who need some-one to help them whilst they are not able to look after themseves, Lynxxx.
Not sure , Bichon, must be itchy in the summer..lol
They wear them here too Bichon. I think they look rather distinguished
Attendance allowance is claimed by the person who needs help. The problem is that they have to specify why exactly they need help and this takes the form of a long questionnaire. When we were filling it in for my father-in-law (now deceased) three of us took two hours to decipher it - how is an elderly, confused person supposed to cope?
hello all - please clue the di6/27 driving me crazy
especially racing through the city streets with the black robes billowing out behind
the first di6/27
The funniest bit was when they asked 'What medication do you take?' and then in big letters 'DO NOT SEND EXAMPLES OF YOUR MEDICATION'.

Morning all. Haz, thanks for the clues.
hi Molly
Hello, Molly, glad if they've helped.
Hello, molly
Sorry was listening to heintje, got a bit carried away.
Rusty German - mother, don't cry over your children. Or perhaps it is don't cry over your sausage. As I said, my German is rusty.
Molly - are both boxes ticked in "My Account" on the right hand side - if they are then you would get a US flag
You were about right the first time , Haz. :-)
My tertiary education wasn't a complete waste, in that case.
You did languages Haz?
you are a source of good information, Haz, and i am not taking the michael either.
I did. I did Spanish for two years, German for 7 years including two at university and French for 10 including three years at university.
I remember when children studied German at school. At least here in the US. No longer, most people study Spanish
French is my first love, though.
I so want to learn Latin
German isn't the easiest of languages. I've not had the chance (or desire) to practise it much but French has stayed with me longer.
yay, found the 8
I've taken up Latin again, zooz. Did it at school, but have now been doing it for about 5 years. Great fun.
German is a very difficult language, as attests my German born, US raised husband
Go for it, zooz. I did it for 5 years as well and ended up enjoying it. You just have to be prepared to do a lot of learning, but it is an exercise in logic.
zooz, care to share the 8>
it is an `re` word Bichon
could you share a bit more zooz?
I have a friend here who's doing a night class in Latin at the university in Belfast.
i will study it, that i know, once i am in a normal state..lol
bits of metal you hammer into word , Bichon
You might find it helpful anyway zooz. Takes your mind completely away from everything else.
wood*
I can still rhyme off the verbs etc because we had to learn them by rote.
hi Sally
yes, good point, Sally
TY for the 8 zooz
yw :-)
I do mine with a U3A group so doesn't cost, but there might be an evening class, and if you are not earning you might get help with that financially.
Is it mostly translating from Latin into English, Sally, or do you do the English into Latin as well?
Both Haz, but mostly Latin into English. We are only doing it for fun, not for exams or anything.
Did you know you can get the news in Latin?
And is it trying to use Latin in contemporary fashion? My friend's teacher is Italian and is teaching them to pronounce the words Italian style, also trying to get them to give directions down the street rather than instructions about how to fight battles.
Sorry, was on phone, that sounds ideal , Sally, just for fun to begin with, just incase i find it too hard..lol
Yes, we have been doing a series of stories. Also have recently been doing fairy stories, which one of us reads out, so that is a different technique, you have to get your ear in for that rather than just reading.
So there are stories about love and marriage, about court cases, about Pompei, etc.
We do the grammar as well :-)
Not sure about pronouncing Italian style. That would not be correct Latin really.
there is a U3A group on the isle of wight too.
Are you old enough zooz? You might find it fun.
Oh, that sounds interesting! Latin at school was very much an academic exercise, and we never really got the sense of a language being spoken. The pronounciation thing surprised me, but maybe she's just taking a bit of poetic licence. Unless they've dug up some old recordings....
LOL at QI...what a funny show
It's very funny, lynxxx. They can go off on the most marvellous tangents.
QI, is wonderful,, Lynxxx, i always try and watch it.
Not sure , Sally, looking at the website now.
lol Haz. Well there is evidence of how it sounded, when you look at the poetry. But the Italian rules for pronouncing the letter C, for instance, would not be the same as Latin. Did you see my message about the news?
And 'Have I got news for you' is coming on again soon.
Yes, where can you get the news in Latin? Online?
Sorry, was looking up the link: <http://www.yle.fi/radio1/tiede/nuntii _latini/> You can read it or listen to it. Very strange, Latin with a Finnish accent!
I don't believe we have had that one here
You could lie, zooz.
why would they do the news in Latin?
they do not do latin here, Sally, oh well.
lynxxx, it's a quiz based on the news of the past week. It might not translate too well into other countries, as it does highlight British news.
The Latin news is great fun.
lynxxx, it's to keep interest in the language alive. It is the root of so many other languages and so many people just don't have a clue about the construction of a language.
Haz, Paul Mertons face always cracks me up when other people are talking..lol
I know, and again he can go off on the most wonderful flights of fancy.
oh sorry, cross talking here, i thought we were on `have i got news for you` lol
phone again
I'm looking at it now. So funny to see an article about Nokia.
Yes, I love it Haz. I sometimes print out bits and take them in. Also funny when they talk about sport.
Do you think they just make up words if they didn't exist before? (Chemicorum, biologicorum, nuclearumque)
Well they do follow rules. I assume nuclearum didn't exist!
that last one has to be alcoholic
alcoholic?
nucleaRUMque
I think you're right, Sally, but it is funny.
ooooh! lynxx!
Those Aussies can sniff out a drink anywhere.
It's actually very good practice Haz, and I assume good Latin. I also have Winnie the Pooh in Latin, and that is very hard Latin we all find.
I do miss BabRab - he must have studied latin I am sure
Do we know where he is? I got hints that he wasn't well.
I haven't checked recently to see if he's still playing. He's maybe just not in the mood to chat.
he is still playing.
Just checked. He's playing every day. A quick hello if he's around.
Good to know that zooz. One doesn't like to pry.
He did chat briefly maybe a few weeks ago but said that he hadn't been great.
Salve, BR!
(That means hello, not apply some ointment)
lol
Just wondering how I would cope with a Latin version of Babble.
I thought Sally might have a special potion she has conjured up
Would be fun to try to invent one.
It would cut chat down to a marked degree, Sally.
oh gosh, don`t go there , Sally, i would never finish a grid..lol
Potion, lynxxx? That sounds like Asterix!!
You can get Asterix in Latin, too.
If updo is allowed, wonder why updid isn't
i tried that one too LOL
Hello, Une :-)
hi Une
Hello, Une, nice to see you!
hey, all :-)
Hi, une.
ditto, haz!
was just reading online that the pastor who was in the news re a public burning of the Koran is coming here for a rally at our convention center -- aaaccckkk!
Tell him Nashville is still under water.
topics will include Islam, abortion, and homosexuality -- good lord . . .
haz LOL!
get some pamphlets from his church and burn them on the convention center steps - see how HE likes it.
and good morning friends
howdy, trif :-)
Hello, trif
Hello, Trif.
good id** Trif. Goodmorning
Remind him, Let he who is without sin ...
article in local paper: http://tinyurl.com/2ewku52
I think the best response ever to people like that pastor is resounding silence. let his lecture hall be filled with nary a soul who turned up to listen
trif, i thought the same thing -- how wonderful it would be if he walked into an empty auditorium
mmm 10 people turned up to the rally in Tampa - seems like 10 too many
i think that about kkk rallies, abortion protests, anti-gay protests, etc. Picture them being greeted by empty streets, not a news camera in sight, because people just didnt care to show up and give them the satisfaction of an audience
You could always just play country music at him.
Thats half the promblem now, you can bet there will be more cameras & news crews than people who are deluded in listening to it.
Send him home weeping at all the dead dogs and the crops dying in the fields and the women who didn't stand by their man.
you are exactly right, zooz! and the pastor thinks they are all there to see him "in support" and quotes that figure to others.
seems to me most of America is embarrassed by this man
there will be an unbelievable media frenzy here, I'm sure
The sad thing about it is those types of people will always draw a crowd.
morning, nonnie
Him I don't notice so much. The ones I am well and truly ashamed of are those nutjobs who protest outside of military funerals.
hi Nonnie
oh, trif, those people are beyond understanding . . .
hello une and all===and a good morning to everyone.
Hello, Nonnie!
Good morning, nonnie.
I agree, une, but they do make me ashamed of america, of those who corrupt the name of church goers, etc
saw earlier chat re BR -- I've really missed him as well . ..
lynxxx, zoom, haz :o)
I noticed the chatter about BR as well. is he not feeling up to his usual self?
Trif, the last time he was on he said that he was having more than his usual struggles, and that his mood meant that he didn't feel like contributing to chat.
Have fireworks, and must get my broomstick and fly. Any clues needed?
oh dear. I love when he contributes to the chat. His intelligence is completely intimidating, but he never condescends....
congrats sally
huzzah for sally!
Well done, Sally!
WTG Sally!
Hooray for Sally!!
Hopefully he'll be feeling more like himself soon.
He is a nice fellow and I miss when he is not around.
OH just getting up and I wouldn't like him to realise just how long I've been on Babble :-) Will just rush and get mop and bucket.
i will pray for our dear friend. I am going to assume god will know who I mean....
congrats, sally!
Always have an instrument of cleanliness to hand, Sally. A duster is good.
lol haz
A duster? Will look it up in wikipedia Haz.
If he saw me with a duster he would think I was ill.
ummm. also in the prayers department - I don't really want to discuss this, but I would appreciate prayers on thursday, those of you who are inclined. It is my court date for the dreaded divorce. Hopefully the LAST time I will have to go to court.
A full wastepaper bin by your side, ready to grab. 'I was just emptying this'
Trif, i hope you don`t mind me saying, but i hope all goes well for you on thursday.
lol Haz. *gone*
I dont mind. I hope so too.
I will keep you in my prayers, tri. My heart goes out to you and your kiddos.
Best wishes for Thursday, Trif. Head high, dignity and clean underwear.
same sentiments from me Trif. Hope 'that' bloke is reasonable when it comes to it
ty nonnie
LOL re the underwear -- forgive me for revealing this, but it is sooooo good -- I was gifted with a beautiful, well made cami to wear under my blouse on thursday. in delicate silk embroidery it says "do not f*ck with me!" it's like a little armor breastplate, just for me
all best wishes for Thursday, Trif
ahahhahaa=="clean underwear"!
Okay, now that we've sorted out the world, time I was getting Spangle walked. Enjoy the grid, it's civilised in all aspects. Toodle-oo!
LOL, Trif
bye Haz
Take care, Haz & thanks for the clues :-)
bye, haz -- must do same -- 3 pups waiting to go outside! :-) *poof*
bye bye haz and enjoy your walk.
*gone*
and une, take care!
sounds perfect Trif
bye , Une
bye Une
I know, right? million dollar idea, right there.... I should start cranking them out
Good one, tri. I sure the demand would be overwhelming :o)
I'm sure also...
And fireworks for me, phew, did not like the `A`s
Congrats Zooz!

i didn't even know there was a di7
pretty much....yes....
Sounds about right , Trif
got it...thanks
I wish we had babble sound capability-- my dog is SNORING right now, lol
its you Trif...don't blame the dog...lol
I blame the dog for "other" percussive sounds around here, not snoring!
ewww
did you know the average person releases those other sounds about 14 times a day?
sorry to burst your bubble there, zooz. contrary to popular opinion, women do indeed do THAT. angels do not swoop down from heaven and carry our away in little silk bags, as popularly believed
di7/40...first four letters of sparkly gem + I went for a r*** on my bike.
my cat has been on perma purr the last 24 hours...her coat is such that u cannot tell if she has clumps of loose fur knotted in there...and she has never until now ( 7 years ) needed to be brushed... its the nature of her coat ( norwegian forest cat)...i realised yesterday she needed it..badly...pulled out disgusting ammounts of loose fur....and she is over the moon happy now..poor kitty...i was a bad mommy
perma purr!!! LOVE that!
i know , Trif, have had the experience of listening to it many times.
kitty has not left my side...purred in her sleep
just googled those - what a lovely breed of cat, carlee!
i am lucky..i have 2...one a tabby ( the one i brushed last night) and a solid brownish black...looks black but her ruff has those brownish red tones the light catches
is anyone liking todays grid?
eh, it's okay.
have finished , Carlee, a few `A`s i found rather hard, otherwise not too bad.
i am grid locked with 53 to go, so think I will take a break and come back with fresh eyes after work. love to all, and take the best of care.
on which note, i had better go, take care , All.
enjoy the day trifs...

crossy, did you suggest that to dr_god?
no,my idea was for clickable/touch letter on the grid

I have so many pictures, annie, name your genre, e.g. flowers, dogs, mountains, etc.
nurse is with him now, he is very depressed about his back pain and in general and it is rubbing off on me!
dogs, the house and anything else you would like to send
will do it a little bit later, just say "uncle" when you've had enough!
ruby, is the back pain a result of the fall? never say "uncle"
yes, when the dog took him down, he hurt his back but didn't realize it because he was so focused on the bites. Therefore, he continued with his regular activities (lifting) and now it is worsening, not getting better.
and his birthday was on the 30th and he's very depressed about getting old
will physical therapy help him with the back pain? the owners of the dog should be shot. Well, to be prosaic...the alternate remedy to getting old stinks I dont like getting old either but I had no choice.
that's how I feel, too, but at the same time feel lucky to have survived cancer (20 yrs on the 6th of Nov) when so many of my contemporaries didn't
he won't let anybody touch his back, including me
ruby, thrilled you are a survivor.
that's how I feel most of the time, but his pessimism gets me down
I have lost so many friends and relatives to cancer
where is BabbleRabble when I need a clue for an 7/32?
My second husband died from cancer and emphysema. Horrible
I surely don't have an7!

phantom "adenoid"
when i was young there were still several radio shows and they were great.i have found many of them and have downloaded them and tried to listen to them, but it seems we have lost something magical over the years.no longer can a folley sound man use 2 coconut halves on a sound stage and make you see the lone rangers horse in your head galloping into the sunset.we can no longer see with our minds eye as we used to..and we are less for it;/

Hello BDG. How are you?
doin' okay, apart from being financially untenable. how bout you?
Pauperised!!!!
and anoid lol
ok i am back;)
plus my babble expert is not cooperating. i want to shrink it a little vertically but it is below the task bar, and if i try to move it up, it switches itself to full screen. aarrgh
helloooo everyone
And theres worse to come..... This country is bankrupt. Theres a budget next month, which is going to crucify us..... The only good thing is - everybody is in the same boat.
Hello Crossy, Varumba. You caught me in mid-moan.....
lol soodle, hi... it's ok, happens to the best of us :)
ouch! i hear there are a lot of US states that are going bankrupt as well. not good. and i blame greedy pols and greedy "financial products" dealers
gwen,do you have your monitor set to its native or default resolution?
we are also set to enter another rescession up here
many i know(including me) are working 3 Mcjobs to make our old white collar wages
cross, i dunno, i'm not a tech. i am using vista and am not familiar with it since i've only had it a few weeks
vista...ewww
well what type of monitor do you use?
i can find its native rez for you if you give me make and model
sometimes if you set it to native rez, it will solve sizing issues,or if you have a add in video card you set the rez through it
monitor is gateway FPD1530
no, wait a minute, i have win7. (yes, i can't even remember these things anymore) (my mom has vista and i have to help her a lot with it, the blind leading the blind)
what size?
ahh win 7,much better
17 inch? 19?
measuring . . .
15 inches, diagonally. is that right?
k,1 sec....
kk...
its native rez is 1024x768
i've fiddled with monitor setting but no idea what i'm doing
yes, and what do i do with that info?
hey all, have 47 left and just realized I am in the grid again :)
go to desktop and right click screen, then select properties, then display properties
howdy peri
once there set to 1024x768
okay, doing what you command lol
and 32 bit colour of course
lol,no command, just adives so you expert sizes better
hi peri..... down to 56 myself, but already using morewords :( gonan be a long raod to the end!!
okay, it's set for 1024x768. any more tinkerings?
ok, checking for 32-bit color
advice
was it on that setting already?
it says true color 32-bit, also.
yes, rezs and color both already what you said
good,good
mmm
not many use 15 inch monitors anyome
any way to make the taskbar a little shorter, so to speak?
may have to sell some furniture and spring for a 17
i have a small apartment and everything in it is small lol
lol
Back.... Hi Peri.
i can see the lower edge of the babble window behind the taskbar, since the taskbar is a but transparent, but my mouse arrow can't get to it
a bit transparent
mmm thinking on that 1 gwen...
i know it can be adjusted, just a matter of finding the settings...
thanks for tryin' to help. it's not your fault, it's bill gates' fault lol
Try this: Right click the taskbar, hit Properties, then click Auto-hide .. That might work
ty torgone
thats was what was eluding me
i like a narrow task bar as i run my folding at home from there
okay, back to the clicking i go . . .
right click task bar like torgone said, then select properties
the check off auto hide and reset
holy cow it worked!!!!! taskbar slid down and i resized babble, hooray!!!!!!!! TY dude
now gonna set taskbar back to "normal"
:)
Woo-Hoo, BDG!!!
with torgones help we are a sucess
no,just mouse over and it will come back
oh, hey, i saw "use small icons" and clicked that, and that made the taskbar "shorter". gonna keep it that way
i have had mine on auto hide so long i forgot here the setting was
i switch from program to program all day long, don't like the disappearing taskbar lol
Ty Torgone!!!!!
bbiab
but that 15 inch monitor must be retired gwen lol
YVW!
yaa for torgone!
kk,must do a store run,bbs..poof!
hey i just got a new puter, gonna be a while before i get a new monitor, i'm not rich. if you want to help, check out my used bookstore, see if there's anything you want, and i'm sure i can arrange a generous discount. www.gwenfoss.com
oh, heck, he's gone already!
well, i got nbt, in case anyone still there 8-)
Good for you, Book Doctor - the one that bugged me most was the e in the third column!
the 4th column?
Fourth - I have my screen shrunk and had pulled it over one column without noticing!
yep. this must be resizing day lol
well, i'm off to take care of some more "real world" stuff, later
I like to see my wallpaper - and I usually have a batch of screen up, staggered around so that I can get at each one without having to remember that there's this bar down at the bottom, with a link for each one - I think I've finally got that fixed in my mind, but I wouldn't want to depend on it!
hello again
64 to go
Fireworks! Hello, Ruby. Glad to see you.
Must go - have been ignoring the world this morning, but this can't go on! Good babbling, Ruby. Hug the dogs for me.

Hello...
howdy jellen:)
hi all!..just waiting for the inspector to come and close out my water heater install...
Hi, PAV
how are things today?
Water heater install yourself? I'm impressed!
Hi everybody. Sorry to come in begging, but can anybody clue me the an7, please?
I'm still a bit cranky...but better....
oh no! I can barely hold a hammer...I contracted this with the local Home Depot...prob cost me double, but I know it's done right..
did they put the tray under the tank and is there a drain handy? 90% forget the drip pan
an7 ends with the robotic ending, throw a vowel in between
an+am**ican pie+aster***
My WH is in an outside closet, no danger of leaking through to the condo itself...hooked up to an external faucet that runs out onto the patio - first time I was told what it was for...now I know what it does and how to check the WH...
thanks very much, Pav & Grant. FIreworks!!
yay Soodle!
wtg
ahh you must be in a mild climate the..no outside closets for our hw heaters lol
yaa for soodles
Hi, Soodle...
Yay for you!!!
and I could not understand why they would sell WH blankets here in AZ, for the insulation? in this heat?
On the phone...
lol,now that is funny
here we wrap the heater and all the piping
got the S;s done
You/re not that far from MI where I grew up..'tis why I need warmer weather
70 left
to keep the heat in the water heater pav
otherwise you are paying to cool air heated by water you paid to heat
hi jell *waves*
Hi, jmc!
hi rick!
hi pav
I have been in this condo for a bit over 9 yrs, and was never told to check the WH or to bleed it occasionally to relieve the pressure...drain it twice a year to remove the sediments which form, etc.
most people don't know to do that pav although it will improve the efficiency and life of your WH
i installed a tankless WH and I am not happy with it
so I had a 12-yr double insulated, self cleaning WH installed which may need relief but once a year...
tankless = $$
a water heater should never need to be bled for pressure,it has a pressure relief valve and if the water temp is correctly set it should never come into play
jmc, please tell me what you do not like about the tankless unit please
exactly crossy...which is why i said "may"
it is not able to deal well with changes in water flow so if I start with a high flow and lower it the WH starts running around in circles flapping its hands, crying "What am I supposed to do now?"
I take it it is somewhat programmable? is there is factory reset?
and I got the one with all the best ratings
I could kinda understand the water going cold when I increase the rate of flow but I am baffled by it getting cold when i lower the rate of flow
mmm,strange
i am wondering if there is an issue with the gas flow
i have seen those top end unit run 3 showers at once
so...higher rate of flow = less time being heated; lower flow rate = longer heating; but is the WH unit big enough to handle the total need for your home?
anyway I need to figure out what to do because it has been bad enough when it was warm outside but having a shower suddenly go cold in the winter. . . . brrrrrrrrrrrrrr
i got a unit that should be big enough for my house --- it is just me
ah, a gas heater...out of my 'element"
i may have to have a real plumber come look at it instead of my reliable handyman who is a plumber
guess who's picking up a new car today?!?!?
Who??
not I!

hi crossy, jmc, m9, Jellen, and SeaSpray (so sorry about Westie)
ty JBV
Hi JBV! I'm at the FHC!
http://caninecushingsdisease.net/
howdy jbv
oh, m9, I am SO GLAD you let me know about this great resource in my own backyard! - I found something amazing - a copy of my grandfather's marriage certificate (NYC 1905) - so cool!
ty crossy..I will check it out...
isn't that neat!! You know you can search at familysearch from home.. no fee. I think I've told you that before:
but I am having a real hard time finding a passenger list for my grandmother -
at home.. google beta familysearch. that has updates in it everyday from the stuff folks are indexing
did they both go back?
yes, I am exploring the resources - I am going back on Wednesday night when the lady who helped me before is on duty - she is really great!
Have you gone to the Ellis Island site?
She's probably a clone of the one I work with!LOL
yes they both went back to Italy, but right now I'm trying to find her passage from Italy to NY
What was her name again?
and have you contacted your cousins about maybe finding his birth in Italy?
well, of course, that's the $64,000 question - either Girolama LaBarbera or Girolama LaBarbara or about a hundred other possible misspellings
I am walking on eggshells with the cousins, there are a few reasons why I can't push this - one day I'll write a book :)
then make sure you don't have "exact" checked!LOL
OOOooohhhh..
just found passanger list. she's from Mezzoiuso right??
arrival date 06 May 1898
yes?
wait...were they already married?
thanks, m9 - I was just looking at the beta site you gave me - I think I have a copy of that one 1898 - but what's her age?
36
I don't think so - the marriage certificate (which I am 99.99% sure is theirs) has her at age 30 in 1905
it's very unlikely = age 36 in 1898, would make her 45 when my father was born in 1907
but she may have lied about being older just for proprietys' sake??
or lied about being younger when she got married? remarried? very intriguing
what year do you think she arrived? approx?
I've tried with a range between 1895 and 1905 (marriage certificate is March 1905 in NYC)
i was 42 when Gage was born.. just sayin'
wow.. there's a lot of gals with that name!
my father wanted to name me with her name!! My mother put her foot down and said absolutely no way, so my name is Joanne (father Joe, mother Anna)
it's the female version of Jerome (Girolamo)
here's someone got here in 04 and is 25...
ooh, interesting - what ship?and how is the name spelled? I;ll look it up
oh wait.. I think that's a guy.LOL
Hello, m9...
but I've read enough passenger lists by now to know that there are many many mistakes in transcription - I've emailed Ellis Island and they've corrected some of them
hi JC
hi J.C.!
Hi, JBV.
Hi, J.C....not really here...playing poker...
Genealogy discussion? Seen my blog, m9?
Hi, Jellen. OK...
we're babbling and doing genealogical research on the side :) (m9 you are great)
hi Jellen
wait.. it was a woman. the montserrat.
no J.C.
montserrat is the ship?
We had some professional help with that a few years ago and it was quite interesting.
http://tinyurl.com/23rbn25
oh cool J.C.!
I have a blog about it, m9 - seven clips.
did that link work JB?
I'm looking at it now, m9 - I think I had seen this but it looks like she's traveling with a few children - I thought it couldn't be her, now I don't know
My time here at the library is done! Off to see my family now.... and eat something! I'll have to see those clips sometime J.C.!
bye m9 - have a great evening!
Later, m9...
bye all!
Hello all. Hope everyone is having a nice days.

Crossi, what you play music on.
ty and fish me
can someone please tell me if the letters change?
Once every 24 hours the grid/puzzle changes.
Other than that, no.
Hi everyone
A clue for the li 7 would be delightful
how do I read the tile stats?
Hello, Bichon.
They show you how many words start with each letter tile in the grid, mrswhiski.
Hi J.C. Are you new to Babble?
For instance the upper left one - U0/2, means that two words start with that tile. If you find a word, it will change to U1/2.
No, bichon.
thanks J.C.
Member since: March 2, 2009
You're welcome, mrswhiski.
Sorry, thought you were the newbi, not mrswhiski
but why are some people asking for clue li7 ???
Nope - I'm the newbie
Because they can't find the 7-letter word starting with the letter pair 'li'.
If you open the lickety's list page, you will see what you need to find - it lists all the letter pair groups, alphabetically and gives their point values.
because I don't know what it is. If you have Babble Expert you get a list of all the words in the grid, first two letters, number of letters and points
You will find the link for the lickety's list page below the tile stats area...
how do they know it starts with "li" ?
the list on the left hand side of the screen will tell them
You will have access to view the stats for a fortnight after joining, after which they will disappear unless you buy a pro membership - which is very cheap and only a one-time fee. The low cost ($14.95 US) goes to help support the cost of providing this site...
Going pro also enables you to have a bio/profile.
That's how I know so many nice things abut J.C. :-)
OK thanks for the help JC & Bichon! I'm off to find lickety's list!
Well. If you load the lickety's list page in another window, you will see how - it shows you what you need to find. You see all the letter pair groups.
And the point values for each word you need to find.
li 7?
You want a clue for the li7, bichon?
yes I do
Think of a word for something Tarzan swings on, plus a robotic ending.
And mrswhiski - you will find the link for the Lickety's list page in the section of links just below the Tile Stats. Right-click that link and open the list page in another browser window - then alt-tab back and forth beteween the two. Easier that way...

tyvm J.C.
You're very welcome, bichon.

Hi, carleekat.

I have two ro6 words and haven't listed yet, bichon. Couldn't tell you if one of those is what you need?
May I please have a clue for re6-18? Thanks
To drive a spike into something again, gapeach.
no worries not the raging man hater or the other traditional "free" women post separation/ divorce....am still just me...without baggage :)...anyway how is today's grid...it does not look any better to me then it did this am when i checked in
Thanks much, J>C>
Hmmm. Well it didn't seem too bad, until I hit a wall.
Don't forget the past tense of that also, gapeach.

Got it, thanks J.C.
Ah. That's the one I don't have, bichon - sorry. :(

If it's any consolation, a poor sense of direction can be a total blessing. I wouldn't be where I am today without one..
with the i-phone*
I was only kidding peoples.
when i was in college for my birthday a friend made me a sign that said "sense of direction" as a present. because, of course, i did not have one.

I got an iphone on Jesse's recommendation not long ago. Still working out how to use it. Finally figured out how to take photos with it - then bought a glittery case for it on the Camden markets and couldn't take photos because I couldn't get the case off. :P My better half managed it, being younger...
will get one as soon as we move.
Ah yes - was just typing that, Jesse.
that still makes me laugh, about the case :P
love my iphone!

I do have a Itouch however with the APPS
Since I cracked the screen of my iphone, it's been slightly less precious to me. I used it as a coaster the other day. Let's see them come up with an app for THAT :p
a coaster!
feather, what is flood it?
thanks Leslie. up to the Rs.
how did you crack your screen NB?
a logic game. it's free.
omg Blue, embarrassing story!
thanks.

you have a board of colors, you touch colors to "flood" the board until you get it all one color.
do tell (if you want to)
maybe you shouldn't
blue who is the cute couple in your icon?
i geeral, you have a addictive personality - avoid drugs
add n's where needed
I guess I left my iphone on the mattress of my bed, forget it was there and threw the duvet over it. You can drop them on a concrete floor but you can't have sex on top of them!!
oh my!

must have been some wild sex nb
I've never tried that yet, Jesse. :P Everywhere else but on my iphone...

Too funny NB!!! I'll remember that one.
yes well, it's not recommended, Julian :P
No. I don't suppose it is. :P
Are you sure, Minski? Are you sure you wouldn't rather forget it as soon as possible? I would...;)
So...nb you both are on a first name basis. what does
that mean:)
internet connection or what:)
Well I don't want to break my new droid x
ok,so..note to self..no phone sex on the i-phone...
I've heard the droid is great.
phone sex is fine crossy, it's sex on top of the phone that's not recommended by NB.
I love my Droid X!!!!
lol
wouldn't that ruin the receiptiong?
ahh ok minski

I think blue must be kidding -- hi all!
I am missing the 3rd ro6/21....I think

just your remark could set some people off.Derogatory.
*throws water ballon at Kje *
ro6 - mr reagan + pineapple conglomerate
Hi, jilli!
Good news on the news, btw -- a California judge has overturned the appalling "don't ask, don't tell" ruling by the US military.
Well Jill, how nice to see you - and naturally. You're probably aware of the 'Bertha' character I often joke about in my shows, yes?
ooooooo - wet t-shirt? can I throw oe back?
hi jilli
Well no, blueheron. Only those who assume much without knowing what's behind anything - most have the courtesy to ask if in doubt, fortunately.
*revs up supersoaker*
Ohh Blue, it wasn't meant in a derogatory way! JC is the nicest I know.
Hi JC -- not quite sure about "Bertha"... ;)
Hi, NB
Thank you, Jesse! x
Ah, well check my page, Jill - my recent updates. ;)
pineapple conglomerate....dole?
I am not sure Dyke is a termed used out here anymore other than Dykes on Bikes in the Gay parade
blue, JC is never rude.
I can send you clips of performances where I mention her - in fact you do have some. :)
Yahoo page, JC?
ok JC..point taken.
Well ruru, the fact that I am flaming gay should show that I'm obviously not insulting anyone else for being, one would think?!
Yes, Jill...
I think I'd better list or never finish this thing
evening all...
I'll re-check, JC -- bet they're hilarious!
Evening, Pinikula - how lovely to see you. :)
lovely to see you, too, JC :)
hi pini-cuz :)
hi pini!
Quite, Jill - it's my Hammersmith Apollo performance. I'm sure I sent it to you - in three clips?
Ohhh, Pini, Jill - everyone is coming out of the woodwork! Good evening, ladies :)

Hi, Pini

Hi NB -- really great to see you <happy dance>
I'm much less cranky!
I SAID I WAS WRONG - must you rub it in?
kje...you must be kidding...if he didn't, we'd all think he was quite ill! :)
(makes rum cocktail with Kje's pineapple)
rub rub rub
Thank you, Jill! Lovely to see you too, as ever :)
I have 79 left and little hope...still need supper. JC, I spent the afternoon making your Smashing Grain Casserole and it awaits me.

hey grad10
an7?
Hello, tcnjgrad10.
guess I shoulda put a comma in there somewhere! :)
Blue...I really think there's been a misunderstanding. JC really wasn't being rude - no malicious intent at all! Hell, we're all gay here.
Hi, tcnj
ends in robot ending if that helps, ru
so my uncle is coming to town the weekend after next to visit and to baptize baby2bit - he also baptized me, forty years ago

And no, I'm afraid I don't know what you were getting at exactly, blueheron - it wasn't very clear I'm afraid?

that is nice, dan - be sure and post pics for us!
That's great, dan!
yes I'm very pleased that it has worked out
that's cool, dan2
Aw Dan, what a lovely tradition!
I am so sick of the crap we hear everyday about how we aren't anyone.:) We love, care, cry, have families. Sorry you guys don't understand. Rethink.
But I'll be an honorary gay person, if you like...
I am happy - does that count?
I prefer to think of myself as straight but not narrow
Who isn't anyone, blue?
I don't understand, blueheron - when I am gay?
an honorary gay person... i like that. yep, that's me.
Try again...
Ummmm...Blue, I really don't know what you mean...?
I think those days are changing blue..it's getting better
Oh, I like that, dan!
oh well - back to studying - hagn all
G'night, kje!
are you testing me nb?
and weed - take your turn! (preemptive strike just in case)
good luck kje
i know! i will once the show is done
Not at all - I just mean, JC and I are both gay, so I'm not really catching your point!
May I please have a clue for sa6-21? Thanks
No. I don't either, Jesse. Blueheron, I am gay. I am also a comedian and 'Bertha the Bulldyke' is a funny, fictitional character I mention a lot during my shows. I'm sorry if you don't have enough of a sense of humour to understand or appreciate that, but thankfully those who see the shows do - including my other gay friends - both male and female.
my point is that
my point is that
my point is that
my point is that
* hiccup *
I think it's wisest not to assume anything about what you don't have any idea about...
Pini, your picture is really pretty!
how did you like the hiccup?
gapeach not there yet
thx, NB...I love the colour blue!! :)
Thanks anyway, dan2
Ooh, got the sa 6/21!
I'd say 'bless you', blue, but it wasn't a sneeze...
anyone in here a baseball fan at all?
...what do you say to someone who hiccups? anything? :)
yes tcn
jmc is, grad10, but she's not here
Like Sa**** Clemens, with one vowel change...
other than her, I don't know...
I used to be, until the Expos were killed
I just count the hiccups Pini, but that's just me!
thanks jellen
thx jellen ;)
Does standing on one's head while drinking a glass of water help hiccups at all?
(or try and make the person hiccupping clear their throat, because that makes them about 10x funnier)
I usually suggest a spoonful of sugar Pinikula.
I'm a Met fan so my season has been over for a while but I love the postseason
you're wicked, NB!!!
di 7 anyone?
bitters
Ah, hello Laura! :)
Probably wouldn't work on Babble hiccups though. :P
Hi, Faux
I'm watching the Rangers/Rays game right now..hoping the Rangers win
i suggest waiting them out. cures them every time.
ooooooh, a spoonful of sugar!! NICE!!!
Faux = Laura?
but it sure helps medicine go down! :)
Or incurring a sudden fright - THE HAIRY TOE!
Hi Jellen. Yes!
Yes, Jellen - the Laura in our network. :)
Nice to meet you!
ewwwww, JC...grooooosssss!
hey Faux ;)
(Jesse will be trembling with fear now.)
brb...
You too. :)
rigid with fear. bringing up the hairy toe at this hour? thanks for ruining my night's sleep :P
* offers NB a blanket to combat the trembles * ;)
Thanks so much, Jellen.
rofl
Ah. I gather you don't want me to read it to you as a bedtime story? ;)
the hairy toe? what the heck is that about?
Do we REALLY want to know???
Oh! Oh! The Hairy Toe! <shriek!>
don't ask Ruru, it'll haunt you forever!
ACK!!!!
* I'm going to have nightmares just at the thought! *
I'll show you, ruru - hold on while I sent you something.
is it halloween already? fright night?
I know, I know the Hairy Toe!!!
(listing at 88/72)
(or I'll never finish)
ok jc, I'm gay , I will stand up and say I misinterpreted what you said before I knew the facts. I am guilty, and thank you for pointing that out to me. Are we friends?
J.C. you know Father Ted...I loved that show when I had BBC America...
pini, I had to leave last night at 82/78, and haven't had any time today. Chat just now is too much fun :)
I know what you mean, jilli! ;)
Laura, I sent you a connection request, I think :-)
Ok, thanks.
Hi faux -- sorry I missed you before.
May I please have a clue for le7-32? Thanks
* doing a happy dance * (just because I can)
Sorry, that should be le7-36. Thanks
can I happy dance with you Pink?
dance like nobody's watching, Pini ;)
add "male" to previous word

Oh hi Jill, sorry I missed you! Trying to think of a new acro word.
acro...I forgot all about it!!!
I need to pay more attention!
Thanks, hpb.
hi, I need the li7 too please
I need to start acro. at the moment I'm too intimidated by how good everyone else is!
ho doren
hi .. I mean
Hi, Dorens
I've only done one, NB...it's hard!!!!
hey dorens
ho works, as long as you're not in the ghetto calling me ho!
blue, I hope you got my point when I said "YAY on both counts" -- for finishing here and coming out too. I, like others here, am straight, but not narrow, and there are lots of gays babbling and doing all sorts of brilliant things, including my d-i-l's brother and many great people I knew in the dog-showing world, and so on and on and on. Please feel perfectly comfy here!
ROFL, "ho"
wish I had that li7, too
ok pini, which ho was that????
hi jilli
Guess I'd better go and get that supper...:)
* giggle * the good kind, dorens...of course!!!!
thanks jilli:)
of course!!!
li7 - has the infamous robotic ending
I wanna be a pimp then
Yes, blueheron - sorry, was busy sending email.
thx haz! :)
Speaking of which, check yours ruru. ;)
oh, you go for it, ru... LOL
well thanks haz... and ru, do you have a nice fedora?
thanks haz
pimp? pimple?
Darn, I've been away and haven't caught up with acro. Can we work on words we missed which are no longer active? How about allowing a week per word?
ok JC
You're welcome.
drinking las rocas garnacha now ru, but not quite thrilled with it. was hoping to (with that price)
ai6 please? starting to slow down
slow down? I haven't even sped up!!!
Pini, did you get the li7 yet?
LOL Pini!
yes, ga...
Thanks, Haz!
one who gives ai*
OK
No problem, Jellen.
tcn, there's a babbler who shows up now and then whose handle is MetFan...:-)
Sure Jill, I think so.
add robot ending to the li5
Oh it's okay Jill, it's not an every day thing, just a 'whenever you can' thing!
oh good, I want to try some I've missed, when I have time :-)
so funny nb:)
love you by the way:)
jilli, Met fans are few and far between these days, so it would be nice to meet someone else!
Yes, do try ANTIDISESTABLISHMENTARIANISM! :P
pam is a big mets fan
I bet our babbler by the name of Metfan is a Met Fan! :)
good luck on that one, faux!!!!!
I would like to, faux, but it might take me a year or so, lol!
wow! I used to be able to spell that word!
Hehe!
I'm still learning how to SAY that one...forgot spelling it!

Laura. Ya know what I said about long words early in the morning :P

In fact, I was trying to get a 3yo to say earlier!!! it was cute!
Now I MUST go and have that yummy supper! Back asap :)

Oh yes, that gives me yet another idea. ;)
yay doren!

La ter, jilli
How about antidistablishmentairinsm
I can't spell it, I can barely say it, and you want me to know the meaning, too? What's up with that???
I don't think I said, "Hi, Cos"...
May I please have a clue for li5-10 the 1st? Thanks
I learned how to say trichloracetic acid when I was 5 and having it put in my ear to rebuild a burst eardrum from scarlet fever :-)
girl's name, different last vowel
ouch, jilli!
li 5/10, the second, with a diff ending vowel
li5/10 - to rhyme with the late Princess.
antidisestablismentarianism- the opposition to the disestablishment of a state-supported church
would there ever be a word like that in the Grid?
<-- leaving for supper yet again
highly doubt it, blue
good to know, grad10...now just have to remember it...
Thanks much, Pini, Jellen and Haz
Maybe I'll work on that once I learn how to say and/or spell it! :)
looks like I left out a few vowels, and others.
an6, anybody?
isn't it impossible to have that in the grid? quick letter count!
I don't have any an's, dan2, sorry!
I need the re 7./36 if anyone has it
an plus the ending of the word meaning 'short-sighted'
are there more than 25 letters in the word? if so, not possible to have here! (sigh of relief)
re7/36 - made preparation
got prepped, ruru
thanks haz
You're welcome.
ru...I've re****** myself for lots of fish in the grid.
pi7/32?
I'm reluctant to say yes or no, Pini, because I'm too tired to trust that I counted correctly :P
di7?
pi7/32 - the one at the forefront of any change
anyone here watching the rescue of the Chilean miners?
di7/40 - begin with a girl's best friend, end with a singularly bad day for Caesar.
it's off/on here, blue

ooops...brb...gotta feed Koda...
It's going to be a while..hope it works for them.
i am blue, debating if i should stay up or not!
How long will it be before they are all rescued, do they know?
they just said up to 48 hours
they're hoping to bring the first man up in the next hour or so
It takes 20 minutes down and 20 minutes up for each miner.
not getting the re 7/36
were are you feather?
that's so brilliant...I'd be watching it but when you live with other flats on either side of you, 3am is def an antisocial time to be turning on your TV!
its been a good day newswise.... first dont ask dont tell thrown out of court and now the miner rescue
Wow, 40 minutes per miner!
in NY, near binghamton
re7/36 - a past tense for a word said at the start of a race (re***, st**** go!)

Hi, lbd
an 6 another clue in a different way?
the order is already determined. apparently, there was more of a debate over who was last!
the man who has been the leader down there, the oldest, will be last.
an 6 - a plus the opposite of yes, first three letters of a keyboard instrument.
it's probably a matter of honor
thank you

brb.... I want to have a look at the archives re: a certain grid the other day
Let us hope that there are no news reporters there asking 'How do you feel?' to each one as they emerge.
no kidding, haz!

nbc.com has a live feed, pini
some have been reading books on public speaking too
Give me strength! Seriously?
clue for the ai6 anybody?
ai6 - a helpful male?
the radio guys this morning were commenting that there was some discussion among the trapped as to who was going to go last...as that person would be the "famous" one
ty again haz - could have sworn I tried that one

Oh God! I'm claustrophobic. Is there nowhere I can escape this story?
Maybe I should just go to bed?
Even reading your posts on here has my heart racing.
Hi, Jac
Hi Jellen. I'm not coping well with this.
You know, I used to go down into the old lead and zinc mines when I was a child...don't think I could do it now...
Just try to think of the wide open spaces the rescued are escaping to...
I did, too, Jellen, and the old manganse mines in Wales but only so far before I couldn't see light and had to race out.
Oh, I went down in a bucket...
I assume my claustrophobia is due to me trying to be born with my cord wrapped thrice around my neck.
Goodness, Jac!
Or maaybe I was hanged/strangled /shut in or drowned in a past life? Who knows!
Who knows, indeed!
I'm going to help myself to a drink...totally healthy dinner of milk and cookies! lol
brb
Jellen - re the birth story - I can only imagine that my first slice of life outside the womb was acompanied by a feeling of beeing crushed and hemmed in, and strangled, whilst seeing light above me. I know that the crack of light above me through a floorboard above was the only thing that kept me from running and screaming from the first room in the Warwick xcastle dungeon experience. Beloved realised what was happening when I stuck myself into a corner out of the crowd and held me until I could escape through the door we'd entered through. I left him and 'Step' to go through the rest of the dungeon. he ended up getting his head chopped off (but not really).
The dungeon experience is a laugh, if you're not claustophobic.
