eh, no migraine, so less sleep is a fair trade
Hello everyone
morning, lyn, hope you had a great holiday weekend
I did. And you DC - sounds like you are suffering a bit - or not related?
had a mild migraine tonight at Tom's Parents'. Don't know what triggered it, but meds helped. Other than that nice time. Though i need to go Wed and retrieve my gloves rom my aunt's house in Dumfries, Virginia.
i accidentally left them there on Saturday.
Dumfries - what a glorious name
Morning, lynxxx. Hope your holiday was great.
named for the one in Scotland by the first settlers, and continuously chartered as a town since 1612
hiya, peach
Hi there, dcseain.
hi Peach, xmas was lovely
Great, lynxxx.
It's cold here in Georgia but not as bad as New England....blizzard conditons there.
conditions
wow. i'd forgotten how long the 2AM blip can be
OK got a map of the States up - now where is New England?
New England is the NE -- Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut
Maine, Mass., Conn, New York, Delaware, New Hampshire, Vermont....that's all I can think of right now.
the storm is bad enough that all airports from Washington DC up through main along coast are closed, all trains are shut down, and all buses are cancelled. Tuesday is when they expect things to start moving again.
good morning everybody
OK thanks
Delaware is mid-atlantic, a short drive from me.
morning, ruby
hi Ruby, did you have a pleasant Xmas
Good morning to you, rubyfoo. Trust your Christmas was wonderful.
Are all of you Amer8icans in the throes of the predicted blizzard?
read back and see that you are
My connections isn't very good but no new snow here, just extremely cold, very weird December, this has been
been weird here, too, ruby. Colder than usual, and for where i am with weird December snows. Usually, we don't get snow til Jan
it was a lovely, quiet Christmas, Lynxx -- husband was happy with more fossils and the food was great. I haven't been out of the house in days!
Did the snow reach Georgia, peach
Just a wee bit today.....already melted now.
in the many years I lived in Miami, we had snow one Christmas day and it was gbeautiful
I can't see what I'm typing or enter words!
turn the light on Ruby!

hahah lynxx, no it's the computer
Tom bought a zhuzhu pet to see what the cat does with it.
egads it makes horrible noises
though the squeaks are kinda cute
the cat or the toy?
the toy :)
the cat is vocal in the 'siamese-if-you-don't-please' way
one of our two kitties (the declawed one - we didn't do it, he came to us that way) caught a little mouse in the back room today, he was so proud of himself.
oh, how wonderful, rbud :)
that is so cute!
poor cats are stir-crazy with too much snow outside to go out.
quite fascinated with the bird feeder scene outside the kitchen window, too, haha.
well, i'm going to endeavour to sleep.
AAWWW, poor kitties. My dogs refuse to go outside if the ground is wet at all. Their bladders better be darned good.
so, good day/night, and happy babbling, yall! {poof}
Sweet dreams, dcseain.
good night, then, seain, hope the headache stays at bay
I have to tamp dowwn the snow for my big spoiled dogs or else they won't go out when it's deep
phantoms: martini and cattails
haha, I got our little dog a new pink parka, she looks silly in it, trying to bound through the snow to all her usual spots
first official coat I've bought her
Tried the drink too Ruby but almost the PB for the second one
hi Rosebud
my dogs are too big for my clothes, but they would look so silly -- chows in hoods!!!
Well, some of my Ms are still alive, but I still must call it a night.
good luck, y'all!

hello! and g'nite, freep
hi and bye freep
oh, I made our dog a little blanket cape thingie a couple of years ago, but the pink parka was on clearance, thought I'd try it. not usually much for dressing our animals, but she gets sooo cold.
I love the image and wish I could dress up the dogs; it would be so cute
I'll have to get a pic of her in her parka, and put it up in here sometime - is Monday still pet day?
seasons greetings and other pleasant inanities, postyule bogglers

there, averted a flood
Nite all. Fingers are too cold to type. See you all later.
all right babblers, your noggins are revved on all that eggnog, so it should be easy as mince pie to give me a clue for the ta9 pls?
bye peach!
Hello Gort, thought there was enough natural floods up there without you adding to it
too right lyn
nite, peach! :)
pals of ours is flood blocked from coming in to hang with us
what i'm trying to say in my inarticulate ozzie way is that some dear friends had to change their plans to visit us because their property is surrounded by floodwater
I got it
do snakes wind up in the water?
how was yr xmas lyn?
i guess they either wind up or curl up or stretch out, whatever floats their boat, ruby
as long as they don't come in the house
ta*** came down the chimney(!) and not heavy
??
clue for ta9
thanks lyn, would never have gotten that on my own, no matter how many candy canes i gave the monkeys
you are too smart for me!!!
no idea and no 9's, either!
yeah but you're cute, ruby
looking for big hairy spiders NOT+NOT! (still can't see what I'm typing)
who came down the chimney Ruby - only T start - add word for not heavy but misspelled
raofl! can't be cute at my age!!!
do you mean you're literally looking for heavy spiders, or you're looking for them in the grid?
in the grid, ta9???
Yes - along with Al Martino!
got it, thank you
i think the entity that came down the chimney is the corpulent, merry-making ruddy chap, that rhymes with ta***
al martino?
is al the the one-drink martini?
You must be too young Gort
he'd definitely get stuck in our twisty chimney
50s lounge type singer
do you have a clue for the 2nd ac6 pls lyn? (i'm 37 and eleven twelfths)
a little kid, you are gort, younger than my son!!!!
not even one ac yet but I will look with you PS waaay too young
bless your heart ruby, in my world of uni students, i am at a level of decrepitude they can barely comprehend
I found an ac5/12 like what you do on stage but without the ending
and plural for the 6!
now stick not off on the end of it ruby and plural
nice - thanks Gort
this is a nice grid; if I had an extra 10 hrs, I might reach half!
do you have the foreign lilt for the ac6/24?
ooh, thank you, gort
my pleasure
would you like to know what i learned this xmas?
why not
though doesn't sound like it is going to be good
Aunty Gort's Yuletide Kitchen Hint: just because you made vast oceans of tofu chocolate mousse in your new xmas thermomix, doesn't mean your carnivorous family is going to eat it!:)
mmm can't say I blame them actually (tofu = yuk)
my mother who is more elegant than the queen, crossed her eyes, made gagging noises and pretended to puke!
lol
i agree lyn, can't stand the stuff myself, but i thought chocolate covers a multitude of sins...
now i know that there are sins against the tastebuds so heinous no chocolate can cover
chocolate and the right amount of vodka, however...
what did you learn this xmas?
remind me not to come to dinner at your place
grape and goat cheese salad is simply delicious
that does sound good, bit nigella-watermelon-feta-salad-esque
the sweet juxtaposed with the salty, the crisp and the creamy
(new year's resolution #2351 achieved: use juxtaposed in a sentence)
#2351! did anyone ever tell you are a bit hard on yourself
actually i don't make them at all, but i do like bringing words down off the shelf and dropping them into conversations
gotta go and cook up something ghastly and nutritious for the kiddies

Think I need to walk Stew and stretch out my back BBL
I think it is very strange that 'satan' is not accepted but 'satanist' is!
It is Satan, proper noun Sara so, like Scrabble, not accepted

I am in RI for the holidays. we had the 55 MPH winds and snow yesterday...very exciting!
oooooooooooooh, right in the midst of big storm
is everything shut down?
Does not seem to be, the New Englanders are pretty sturdy. If it was Florida we would be paralyzed.
Hi Red, glad to hear you're enjoying the snow. It totally missed us. YAY
We plan on sledding today.

And the fool I was thinking we'd be snow free
hi all
very little snow here--just winds
but my boy is driving to connecticut today to pick up girl friend
I wish him luck. It's really bad. Blowing snow and more of it
oh, hello, and jmc did you say your son is driving up 95? good luck in New Jersey - it's mostly REALLY BAD driving conditions - i'm just watching it on TV, not going anywhere
thanks for passing that on jbv I am lending him my car so i am hoping for the best
he is a good driver and it is possible he will not go
they are recommending people pack their cars with supplies and provisions in case they get stuck!
water, blankets, food, etc
and I think connecticut got more than NJ
yikes!
i will pack my car with that stuff and maybe a sleeping bag
NJ Is in a state of emergency - only essential travel recommended
okay i will tell him that--he should just forget this imho but he will do what he will do
I think northern nj got the most. NOt that it really makes a difference. Just our driveway will be daunting
?
Does he have 4 wheel drive jmc?
of course - my son is planning to drive to Philadelphia tomorrow for a concert - I'm hoping it's cancelled

i see more phantoms than words in the grid .. quatrain, sonatina, ce**ral, elastic, elastin, ma**ian
yes. but not at the early mass i went to, i was just not up to midnight and the packed house.
I love that song
thanks for the link to Andrea Bocelli
welk, there is one close to the last you posted
wooo, love his voice (for more contemporary tenor, josh groban)
wonder what the record is for grid words found while on hold with tech support for a software company?...:((((
yes but i love the kids singing. i did not realize till i researched for carol icon theme that it was written by st, alphonsus liguori
depends if it's with apple or hp
with this grid, about 10
people still use allpe?
Kids singing always gets to me.
lol
clue for the second ac 7
jbv you have heard it before? it is the national carol of italy
wish my phone had a plug in for a headphone mic..:((
Plural of the 5 before it. Sounds like what people do on stage, minus the g.
high playing card + metal alloy
(plural)
oops, i haven't listed yet .. don't even have a five!
do you not have speaker phone crossy?
ty welki.. back in time to see your clue
hi crossy.. sorry you are having tech troubles
hellooooo :)
yes, TO, I know the song - we used to sing it when I was in choirs (HS, college, etc)
hi NB!
hi NB!
hey, NB - how's everything?
NB! Are you home?
morning all...
nope and mt arm is in serious danger of developing a blood clot lol
ohhh, fantastic, thank you!! got back home midday yesterday, saw a few friends, have the cats snuggled around me...:)
Heya, Mary :)
wonderful, NB - so glad for you
So happy to hear that NB.
hi m9.. good news, NB!
Cross, can't you put the phone down close to you? You'll hear when they pick up.
>>>passes crossy my cordless speaker phone
thank you :)
how about put the phone on speaker, crossy?
Cross, I thought you had an iphone...you can take calls through the headphones.
OMG A REAL PERSON...SEC.....
I take it crossy has been on hold?
news from brooklyn heard this minute in calgary: more than 400 people stuck on an elevated train for 6 hours (no heat, no bathrooms)
all of Babble Land waits with bated breath.. crossing fingers for crossy
oh that's horrid.
hehehe ... i think we all know how crossy's plight will play out
the stories from the storm are going to be legendary
ugh! what a nightmare
he could probably run to the store and pick up a speakerphone while he waits for the next tech to speak with him
i'm watching (listening to) ABC news on TV, they just talked to a guy stuck in his car since last night who needs heart medication
ok.. I am stuck.. one tile as usual. stats for that 2nd e please??
and a guy back from Afghanistan stuck in his car with his 3-month old baby
can't EMS get his meds to him?
And I'd rather be stuck on an 'e' than on an 'L'.. that's for sure!
on hold again...i hope they realize i am just peing polite here.if they bug me enough i can just as easily torrent(pirate) their software if they do not stop running me round ...
have one of them that is a greek letter, pl
et4/4, m9
they're working on it, welki, but nothing can get through - streets are snowed in solid, cars abandoned, it's a mess
thanks Nan
I'd have torrented already. Boy's gotta eat!
many on jersey tpke for hours
yep, poor crossy. i figured they'd put you on hold again :(
nbt and nbs
i am sorry i have not had tome for new(on hold) where is this storm centered?
the entire east coast, crossy!
snow and hurricane strength winds not helping
sheesh, jbv .. you'd think someone nearby would hear it and hike over with a diovan or whatever he needs
from the carolinas north to boston, its a huge mess
I'll call my friend in NY in a bit. She should be ok though....
the tv station says they are making calls for him, waiting for an update
and down south..hopefully it does not work its way up here,we are just getting a handle on the 7 feet we got from our last storm:/
More like Georgia to Maine. I'm in central NJ. Took our daughter to Newark Airport yesterday for her flight to Rome. Barely made it home before the storm got heavy. She's still in the airport.
state troopers took food to a bus that was stranded. they needed to commandeer a front end loader, the road is gridlocked
oh, too bad for her, Sam -
The DC area was spared this awful storm. I think the Snow Gods know we heard from them enough last year.
I'm near you Sam - East Brunswick
it looks like about two feet of snow here but I haven't been outside to measure - don't intend to
JBV: Plainsboro!
Gosh, I feel for you all. Rather lovely and bright in my little corner of London today..
might as well be the other side of the moon today - :)
well, London was hit last week - the airport story was incredible
I could get around in my 4WD truck if I wanted to, but I don't.
Hello everybody. TO, I am very sorry for your loss.
Hey Soodle
yesterday morning was sunny and warm here... very odd. I haven't looked outside today.. but pretty sure no snow. Just little piles here and there from a while back
NB we will be watching your New Years parade here early new years day morning. Our local highschool band will be in it
hi Soodle
oh, exciting, Nono! - anyone you know in the band?
oooh, cool, Nono! Long way to come just to play for us Brits.
yes we know several of the kids
what a great experience for them
ty soodle. i really must go out to shovel, won't last long in this wind but a little at the time
it is exciting. They worked so hard to raise money for the trip
sigh so JFK closed until 4, i was supposed to fly in today
take care, TO
(((((((JESSE)))))))
The high winds are just an insult to you all after all that snow.
fight is at 2:30 so possible that i can still squeak into the airport
well I would, no place on earth like London! :)
where are you flying from shirl?
its a large band to the cost is enormous but the community came together and they exceeded their goal
(((Eva))) hello! :)
Good luck Shirl
have you been released, hon? are you home??
a pain as i have to go to the airport to find out if they fly and the airport is an hour away from my parents
Ohhh, I'm home alright :) cuddled up with the cats as we speak!
Good morning
Shirl, you can't call ahead to find out.
Hi Mr. Bob
oh yay! (((gentle hugs)))
i did, check web site too, both said flight still scheduled to go, instead of 2:20, it's 2:30
bet the cats went crazy when you got home
which just says to me they're hoping jfk reopens on time
who knows if they will -- jfk that is
but if JFK Is closed, they may have to redirect you - that's a real hassle
Mmm, it's brilliant! Just sleeping in our bed again was lovely...
I heard airlines were waiving the fees to change tickets -
both jfk and laguardia closed
port authority says 4PM or 4:30 pm for the three
so happy to hear good news, NB - are you moving about OK, need any special care?
Crazy ain't a strong enough word, Mary ;) our little kitten especially; he did the full-on ankle attack
nice
awwww.. cute!
99 words and I am reduced to monkeying like crazy....
Ohhh, I'm quite fine, thanks JBV :) just moving slowly and trying not to feel disgusted with myself when I get out of breath moving across the room ;)
take it easy, NB, each day will be better
my doctor said two days in hospital equates to a week of recovery
Baby steps NB, baby steps. Each day you will see improvement.
so glad you are home and recovering, love. :)
I just spoke to my son in law in CT...a power line fell across the lawn and hence, they lost their power in the house.
was thinking of you over the weekend/holiday.
NB, so happy you are home and in your own bed, I wish you a speedy recovery
oh, that's not good, Annie
yikes
thanks, JBV, Molly :) just got to get used to sitting around 'taking it easy'...not something I'm good at!
thanks, JBV, Molly :) just got to get used to sitting around 'taking it easy'...not something I'm good at!
thanks goodness for cell phones
ooh, hiccup. and thanks, Eva :) got to admit, christmas in the hospital was especially grim. but all done now!
interesting poem. seems you are at a crossroads in all ways nb
some day you will realize that what you make of yourself is entirely up to you. *poof*
brb.. fed ex just delivered our daughter's gift to us.. Apple TV (for netflix?).. am clueless, need to check it out..
NB, you are a young man who has faced a lifetime of challenges already, but I know you are strong and will be fine in every way - I have total confidence in you, just from knowing you here
wow, TO, way to stick THAT knife in and twist it. guess I'll be going.
Well said, JBV.
you can use the apple tv to hook up your internet streams to you TV
no, no NB stay with us
so yes, you can stream netflix to your TV now
i'm sure she didn't mean it the way it was read
being strong also means knowing what to listen to and what not
It was meant as encouragement not as criticism. We ALL need to be reminded of what she said.
more like, with time, you'll forge your own way, regardless of the past
ty Shirlock... cooooooooool, no mail box thingy
if you have a good internet connection, mine flakes out all the time
Nah, I think I'll go, JBV. If somebody's going to take the trouble to upset me I might as well make it worth their while. I think I'm gonna start cooking...*poof*
(((JESSE)))
hmmm... what did I miss?
oh dear
(reading back... one doesn't usually end an encouragement by leaving? )
m9, TO was leaving anyway to go start shoveling her driveway
ah. Just odd altogether.
im sure TO is a but out of it herself, as her father just passed...
Some statements can be intereted in different ways depending on where one is at.
huh..interesting..
TO buried her dad this week, i think nb's poem struck a nerve
Another quote with the same sentiment...You are the only one who creates in your experience—no one else. Everything that comes to you comes by the power of your thought. If there are changes you would like to make, it will be of great value to begin telling a different story—not only about your body, but about all subjects that have been troubling to you. As you begin to positively focus, getting to feel so good about so many subjects, you will begin to feel the power that creates worlds flowing through you. ~ Abraham/Hicks
Hi Crossy.
Yes. Following on the heels of the "interisting poem".. it did come across as censure.
howdy scrabbs;)
Hi all!
Hi Beth
Hi Beth
howdy bethn:))
some families are like NB's poem. Then it is up to the individual to either continue on or to break the cycle.
Hope everyone had a great christmas, and all of us east coasters made it thru the storm ok
i thought this grid used to accept the aussie airline...:(
Coming from a background of depression.. to have someone tell you that what you are is entirely in just your hands .. is not encouraging. :-(
it takes the singular crossy
well said mom
Hm, I just noted the QU ti4. Amazing how I can block out certain ti4s while I focus on others.
but i dont believe there are 9 q words
the airline minus final s is in the grid
QU ti4?
I don't believe there are 12 words off the 2nd column r!!
my father is severly racist and homophobic to the extreme,i could of continued this or enjoy people for who they are..i chose the latter and as a result my son knows no racisim
Amen, Crossy
does the airline start with qu?
good for you crossy -- my father is the same, i try very hard to be xenophillic
some of us try to do better than our parents could, others cannot break the shackles of their upbringing especially when it is harsh
yes mom
Ah, yes, actually I think it does.
children reject their parents, that's life and to be expected, but none of us (I hope) can really understand what it means when a parent rejects a child
or at least recognize my behavior for what it is
thanks Beth and Scrabbler
I mean QA not QU
acck! my list just lost all the words i have entered so far!! brb try a restart
exactly JBV. It's very traumatic.
whew! they are back
my heart is broken for what NB has been going through
what is QA?
are you still on the phone crossy?
excellent Crossy
he has had a very rough row to hoe. I wish he lived somewhere closer, the babble community is very supportive, he would find many parent figures here who would love him as he is
Qantas airlines
Yes, I, like many of us here, see NB as our son.
He doesn't need a slew of "parent figures" .. he's said so. In fact I think that's kind of a scary thought!LOL
yes, a little scary, m9 :)
Being rejected by parents is a hurt that many people never get over. It takes amazing resiliency and a sturdy sense of self-worth.
sorry m9, didnt mean to intrude
there would be many parent figures but he could have his pick
Yes. My naturopath a few years ago asked if I'd been in a major accident or had a major trauma when I was little... I couldn't think of any...
i gave up jbv..2 hours on hold,i will just torrent the crap out of their software..they are lucky i do not plan on making 100 bootleg copies and handing them out to friends..:/
he wouldn't have to have them all
oh crossy... you were a trooper to hang on for that long!
but ,lol, software woes pale to people woes.i am sure NB will prevail
M9, I have never heard of a naturopath until just now. Had to google it
me too crossy
eoe
I think resilience is a fascinating quality - so mysterious, yet so essential
oops... hand shifted.. that should have been "wow"
ca6/21?
((KJE)) hello
think Las Vegas, kje
where you gamble, or small mexican house
Then my naturopath asked me if I had to choose someone to raise my children.. if I were gone.. would I want them to go to my mother (if she were alive).. and my first response was "no!"
that whick does not defeat you or kill you, makes you stronger as iron is forged and tempered for strength..a untested blade will remain unknown..i love people who have been kicked around by life and kick it right back;)
the last one
A great book on resilience that I read a long time ago = The Resilient Self by Steven (?Stephen) Wolin. Fascinating.
have not listed yet, the house is the last one i have so far
I don't think that's necessarily true.
lol,i do not need it scrabbs...life want to play rough?..bring it on.... lol
Hi kje
ty
yes, but the question is why, crossy? why do you have such a perspective and others do not? I find it very interesting
The book helped me learn how I turned out ok whereas 2 sibs struggle
A snowy hellow to all. Hubby is out shovel and I'm babbling and feeling guilty. I will slowly get out there
exactly JBV...
Don't let him work too hard, bichon.
I used to see it in children and families I worked with - some would strive and thrive, others in the same family just be overwhelmed
I find that question interesting too JBV. Why are some able to find resiliency and others seem to always cave in?
I'm the youngest of 9......
I am a person who tends to get overwhelmed.
my husband had it - he was one of 13 - the only one (until a few years ago) who ever went to college and had a professional career
I could discuss birth order for hours M9.
You would like that book, especially the diagram showing the elements that create resilience...sense of humor, etc
people are wondering about me right now - I'm not overwhelmed, I'm just drawing on all my resources to deal with a very difficult situation
there's a lot of grey area between resiliency and "caving in"
Hi everyone, nice to see you all here, however this is the fourth day in a row I have come into chat and NB is either conducting the conversation or is the subject of it. Now while I do have sympathy for him and his "condition" surely there is a limit to how much and for how long we must be expected to give him........and it sticks in my throat when I hear how ungrateful he is about all the nurses turning in for work to nurse him over the festive period.......am sorry folks but I don't do self-pity......nor do I accept it from others!
i think, and this is just my thoughts jbv,i have faced death many times and in many ways, have been dragged right down without a dime and back up again,i have almost lost my family and i have saved them...and with that experience, standard run of the mill stuff does not agitate me or make me afraid as it would of done in the past
You taking sabbatical from family JBV?
sabbatical? no, m9, I recently lost my husband
same here. children with good parents were horribly troubled, w hile those with the worst parents were just the sweetest. i worked with juvenile criminals in a residential setting. and my snow is still in the driveway.
exactly, crossy, you know what is important
Wow Flask. I'm not seeing self pity in NB's posts at all. And it moves me to see this community rally around him in his time of need.
WOW. This conversation has moved on actually..
rule #1 jbv..do not sweat the small stuff
fortunately i looked back to see the thread
Yes, adversity makes many people much stronger and be able to not sweat the small stuff
OH! JBV... I was thinking of something else.. sorry!
(and I knew that too!)
oh, I see - you meant the family tree :)
actually that is moving along very nicely, too, m9
ahh.. I'm glad.
I found out my grandfather (who came to NYC in 1901) actually had a brother and sister already living here and I found their marriage certificates - 1890 and 1894 in NYC
Mine is stuck, stuck, stuck.
did he declare who he was 'receiving' him in America?
<-- not interested in family tree
that's exciting.
I found out that my grandfather, born in the old country was a "bastard" cause his parents only had a religious wedding ceremony
i never actually meant to publicly air my grief since i know that in babble as in life there are those who wish you well and those who delight in your misery. so i do apologize - i mean it is th eholidays and all.
I'm extracting instead now... since I'm stuck on my own.
that's a good question, m9, I'll have to go back to the documents and look -
I would think that would go the other way.. a "bastard" for only a civil...
clue for the second ac 7/32 please
TO, I wish you well, holidays or not. :-)
No not in Bukovina.
ac5 + opp of off
extend the ac 5 before it
ah.. I thought maybe that's how you 'found' them...
owl, you obviously didn't publicly air your grief ... i didn't even know until this morning. no apologies. the kerfuffle was because of what i think was a misinterpretation of your posts.
ty
yw
ooohhh, I like that word ... kerfuffle
you know, I think you're right m9 - you're amazing, you remember more than I do!! (I guess I did take a minor mental sabbatical) :)
well welk - let's say i am glad in this case i looked back. but ty 0 because i truly did not mean to do so
I've been doing census for Oaxaca, Mexico.. and I found it interesting that they noted whether someone had civil marriage, church marriage or both.
so, ho ho ho .. i have the next two days off and my own variety of storm cluttering up my house :)
lol,i have a tenant,on mothers allowance, through a paperwork snafu they were going to delay her cheque a month and she has a nursing baby.As it so happens i was on the construction crew that renovated our local administration building where all the cheques originate.i tossed mom and baby into my truck, drove down to the admin building went right down the hall to their board room, waltzed right in while a meeting was going on and said"excuse me,you guys have delayed this womans cheque,i will need 20 dollars from each of you so she can get food and formulae" lol what great fun! they cut her an emergency cheque right there dated for that day ..lol that is what i mean by not sweating.just doing what is right and what must be done and riding out the storm.worrying is like trying to empty the ocean with a teaspoon, you will be miserable and it will not affect the outcome one bit lool
but i digress,i should look at this grid a bit lol
Crossy, you are a true hero
great sotry cross
Bukovina [now in Ukraine] had a civil ceremony as well as a religious one. It didn't really matter to my grandfather as he moved to America
Good for you, Crossy!
fascinating what is noted on census and what isn't... wish they all noted what town the parents were from!LOL
Hi Crossy
hi m9
excellent Crossy
howdy boo
people known as professional 'advocates' could learn a thing or two from you, crossy
great story crossy
Hola
hi boo.. geek
lol welki,i think not,i am just a fella who has been 'tempered" a tad is all
la geek!
I am playing on new phone lol
hello!
howdy red!
yeah well, we were tempered in similar fires ... i say it's so.
I'm struggling for 1/2 way
I just actually went out and shoveled snow Cross!!! It was neat!
rrrred
then i bow to your wisdom welki;))
Hi SG + Red
nite
my father was ever so good at that kind of stuff. the stories i have heard over the last few days were amazing. it is sad to see someone experiencing the opposite not yet being able to move beyond it. the idea that i would comment on that just to comment and upset is quite telling
neat? neat!..omg!
I'm with you m9. For a big grid and s s's this ain't easy
It was neat!
great workout!
just found a couple more!LOL (always works if I say I'm stuck)
news report .. people with larger amygdalas have more friends. *getting out the amygdalameter*
and red can come to do my driveway, just two car lengths
TO, none of us can control what someone else feels or thinks or does.
come over here red,i have 5 feet snow banks you can shovel for me...
lol you couldn't even FIND mine welk:D
psst, i'm a little short, too *lol*
does it matter if the friend's are named amy?
update from Channel 7 - a viewer went out to rescue the soldier in his car with the 3-month-old, all are safe, car is still stuck on the LIE
another hero, so far anonymous
ahh.. nice holiday story.
why didn't the folks who first found him do something?
good news! adversity really brings out the best in us, things we forget.
ma7/32 before the blue ma6 bird?
taking a break - see you later, and careful in the snow, everyone
probably a "triage" sort of thing, m ... no "emergency," so they move on in case someone is in serious distress
asian physical arts I think
we are all being tested this winter it seems..think ill wake the kid up,toss a hot brekkie into us and take him outside and teach him how to make a honest to goodness old fashioned igloo;)) bbl...poof!
kje i loved your mother teresea quote. i had actually never seen it.
ty m9
karate is a ma7 art
just saw it on x-mas to - love it
no, they didn't "find" him, m9 - he called in to the TV show
*thinking of blue ma6 bird...+ searching*
ah! ok then
Scrabs I think of it as a purple ma****
I think of it as purple ma6--found it
yes, bicho is right - i was wrong - oops
it really hit home. very apropos to our recent chat here
my niece is still shaking her head in wonder at your sorbet :D
mine?
yes!
it is very cool - makes a perfect drink for the holiday
you used it in a drink?
yes - google alpine martini
a drink I had in seattle
ty. those crazy swedes - all they were drinking was glugg - home made swedish moonshine!
yuck
it smelled like robitussin
13 left - all t
need food, bbiam
Hi Kje
ac 7/32 plz
i have one already
DLR
NBT and NBS
IABDITN
anyone have the last ca 7
but 140 left
ac7 - ac5 + not on
nope, sorry
ca7 - double the consonant in the fancy betting place.
ca 7 - gamblig place with a double letter
Hello Kaplan, Greyhound, ivsey+ Ruru. I am missing those words too.
thanks you two
Hi Haz
I haven't found that ac5 yet.
fancy?.. haz has obviously not been to Reno..ugh
Okay, "not on" means off to me. And that's not in the grid.
not on = in also
ac5 - play a role + ot out
oops - ot off
I have that one already
Yeah, but the clue should have read ac5 + not off, I thinnk.
LOL
you ot to stop now kje
ought...lol
you mea ow, ru
OK, I got confused between ac5 clue (not out) + ac7 (not off)
Silly Ruru
yes, molly - already corrected
I'm pretty literal. Not on, is off. Not in, is out. Must be my simple mind.
well i just kept putting letters in and go it lol
It doesn't matter. I don't know what most of these words mean anyway.
*getting disclaimer ready* ...shall not be responsible for typographical or unintentional errors when giving clues...
Careful for embedded words Molly!
Embedded words?
....or for woky keyboards that do 't have certai letters workig
*gently leads molly to pb*
Your 10:01 had a grid word in it.
Well then hell Kap, just kick my ass to the PB. : D
I have been accused of rigidity for that.
*now kicking Molly's ass to the PB*
can't win, kap
Not by me. *Throws stale Christmas cookies from the PB*
uno
no, we are still in the christmas spirit, we will be gentle and feed you goodies during your penalty
FW!
Oh TO, that's so sweet. I prefer that to the stale bread and water suggested by others.
yay!
Way to go Ruru! Now THAT is literal.
take advantage , christmas comes but once a year
beat ru again - how sweet it is
you did?
now must get out of bed and get to work
dam, are you done???
cogratulatios kje
well you are a few hours ahead of me
ok i give up. i have no 8s or 9s yet. any clues out there?
http://www.ehow.com/how_2135004_swedis h-glgg-glogg-glug-etc.html
on to more woreds
i am putting some in the pb, it is good for colds.
.. back, slo go on this grid for me
I will add oj to the pb..
1/2way! finally!
mkg, there is a type of comb that begins with a rodent; the pl is an 8
ty Aloy
lol i tired that with the feline!
I did too TO, several times
LOL TO
truly a phantom!
i guess it is two words. or maybe just enable/
re9 - one who just keeps coming in.
I should have known when re6/21 was my first word that this would be an odd grid.
haz! ;)
you mean like my MIL haz?
hi Haz! hope you had a lovely Christmas
Or re9 - one of the astronauts when they come back into the earth's atmosphere.
Hello, TO and Aloy!
i guess that 7 letter word was the first for all of us
ce7 - the coin plus Miss Gardner, but change the final vowel, and then plural for the 8.
hey hazel .. i found an israeli organization for mich, similar to your rda
sl8: from Thomas Wolfe, "Our lives are haunted by a Georgia sl8 because a London cutthroat went unhung"
Good to know, welki, I hope Michnick finds out if there's anything suitable close by.
i love that that word is here and also the podium
i think there might be .. and there's also the possibility of financial aid, if needed
h'mm. the podium...
That's great, welki, although RDA here never charges for riding, it's maybe different in Israel.
ra8 - looks like a comparative for ra6 (combine a rodent with a number)
here's the link for you, hazel: http://tinyurl.com/2cqscmh
i still nedd 113. and food.
TY, Haz
Thanks, welki.
ooh, ty Haz
A Georgia sl8, huh?
hi all
qu8/55, combine a liquid measure with a seabird, also qu8/55 combine a liquid measure with what you might use to decorate the bathroom floor or wall.
hi je
You're welcome, Aloy.
Hello, jmc.
TY, Haz
Hi JM
how many words today?
hmmm i don't decorate bathrooms
284
hi jmc
ty
JMC, what is the material on your bathroom wall?
Hi Ouw
hi scrabbler
OOOOhhh! ty
hi Ouw
hi ouwa
i was thinking of pictures and shells
i think ratass should be a word
i think the bathroom is the most fun to decorate.
Haha, welki!
Haha, welki!
lol, welki
well now THAT'S a good clue
I agree Welki : D
law firm that provides legal counsel just sent me a calendar
i knew a rattass once
no9 - when the aspiring Picasso just doesn't measure up.
i need to get to the mall for half price calendars
you could have this one its a *ahem* a tad too "patriotic" for me
hell i need to get to the mall to go christmas shopping
morning all
hi Dorens
Good morning, Dorens.
anyone here shop yahoo?
hi dorens
hi Dorens and Haz
hi doren
.. and ty again, Haz.. for the no9
i'm an amazon.com shopper
me too welki.. love amazon
back to say hi - sign of how this christmas is different - I have NO calendar for 2011 yet - usually get so many more than we need
You're welcome, Aloy.
i wanted to shop there but it says i have an account and yet won't give me password hint
well, according to lickety...all I need is a in5/16 ? any clue?
qu9 - Combine mini-skirt Mary with that bathroom material for wall and floor.
welki use goodshop to go amazon.com and then a portion of your $$ can go to a charity--like me!
do they add charges?
in5/16 in plus the start of what is the spice of life.
In + beginning of what is "the spice of life"
haz thank you. nice clue there
lol Haz (-:
oh that's weird you two
will do, jmc. i like shopping for the kids (in the states) there .. free shipping :)
You're welcome, Dorens.
i thought spice of life was sex...no x in the puzzle...LOL
do not have in5
Aloy and I are on the same wavelength with that clue.
Hi all......hope you all had a nice xmas!
hi Flask
goodness jmc, i have spent thousands at amazon... never knew about that goodshop
Hello, Flask. We finally started to thaw yesterday.
i have been trying to get the word out about it but am a little shy about promoting the center on babble land
One minute we had icicles, the next they started dripping. It was like someone had turned up the thermostat.
Same here today....so exciting!!!
but you can do it for other charities
will check out goodshop, never heard of it, ty jmc
thaw? what does that mean haz?
a clue pls?
ty haz for all the clues
We still have snow on the ground, but it's definitely on the wane.
wow! at the site now ... THOUSANDS of causes to choose from!
for me the problem will be trying to remember it. clue for what owl?
in5?
You're welcome, jmc.
doren are you in boston?
you can drag it to the top of your thingie at the top of your browser
yep here too.......long may it last!
i have about 20 inches here.. in Mountain lakes owl
no harm in a little promo, jmc .. folks self-promote here all the time :)
<===go with computer technical terms
Alexander go his stitches out today!
*good
in5/16 - in plus first letters of 'the spice of life'
*dragging her thingie*
wtg alexander!
i have 7 but it but with wind who knows i keep hoping it blows out of driveway
Good boy - is he doing okay, Flask?
we got almost nothing here
DOH! i thought that you were adding to that word to get an 8
Great thanks!.....they were for both days over xmas.....and he never stopped smiling!
that is good news flask.
Thanx TO...
That's great. Children are so resilient. Are you able to breathe again?
clue for the first ca 7/33
okay i got 200 left and a ton of work bbl
oops ,meant ca 7/32
6 day old baby just arrived--I love seeing newborns.
bye je and i think i will break now also.
Oh yes....am a happy Nana again!!
found a package of sealed brita filters that are who-knows-how-many-years-old ... if sealed, they're probably still good, don't you think? no expiry date
she won't be able to breath until he is 30 and then only intermittedly! lol
over hill over dale, as we hit the dusty trail, and the ca7's go rolling along
That's great, Flask, hope he makes a complete recovery.
Trump Taj Mahal = a ca6. Double the middle consonant for ca7.
boo: ww i song , when the ca7 go rolling along
nona
s
oooh sorry
I would agree with you, Welki.
ty Scrabbs, missed that ca7, clued another
thanks .. just charcoal, can't see how it could "spoil" if still sealed
you should be. EVERYBODY has that one already. ;)
thanks Haz.....
It is taking me a lot of restraint to not buy the Nook Color e-reader.
what is the spice of life?
Do you want us to persuade you not to?
doren do you hate it when you are already home and have a snow day?
***iety is the spice of life.
bichon, it is not hum drum and boring, there is a mix of things
lots of choices bichon
no, not at all... actually snow days bother me cause it takes away time from all the stuff i have to do anyway
Yes, Haz. If I wait several months the price will decrease and improvements will be made. I must not be impulsive. But I love gadgets.
scrab,, why the nook color? i was eying the new kindle,,, smaller and cheaper (and now I know I can donate to charity as well)
i am heading back up tomorrow or Wednesday
Nook Color can do so much more--WiFi, internet, etc
ty Aloy for in 5
brb.. mini break time
oh, yvw bichon
i heard tv s are a good buy toward the end of januray as models change
But don't you have a laptop already, Scrabbler? Does this do something different?
Scrabbs, the deciding factor for me would be which has the biggest e-book store linked to it?
now haz don't go getting all practical. its new! it's task specific! it's flashy!
I have a netbook, but NookColor has touchcontrol and Nook has more e-access than Kindle.
a il
scrabs, in that case you should definitely get one
Haz, silly girl. I don't NEED a Nook, I WANT a Nook.
I love the HP mini-notebooks
dawg!
Sorry! It's the practical side of me that refuses to die. The other thing is that I don't know what half these things are.
lol
you can load the nook app on it
Must go see 6 day old. BBS.
later scrabbler.
bye scrab
Bye, Scrabbler. Be strong.
I have a Kindle, and I love it.....
loving husband bought me a Sony Dash for christmas. i dont really have any need for it, but i just dont have the heart to tell him to take it back...
I'm such a dinosaur.
Hi EvaN...whats a Sony Dash?
the Sony Galaxy is great
Thank you for asking, Flask. I was wondering the same thing.
sounds nice though i don't know what it is
sa8?
its a "personal internet viewer" basically, you can load a bunch of different apps, so it will tell you all about the weather, the traffic, the news -- whatever you load into it.
Oh am clueless about things like that.....never heard of them!
as 8?
sa8 - a devil worshipper?
sa8, believes in saten
satan
weird it won't take satan then.. thanks haz
as8 - think of a donkey squashing a picnic pest.
You're welcome, ruru.
he is more of the techie, so he thinks those are the greatest gifts ever. as for me, i have my cellphone, which has internet access. i have a computer. i dont really see the point for another gadget, just for gadgets sake. but i think he would be really disappointed if i admitted that i dont really want it.
thanx EvaN...
ah.. but that's a proper name ru!
and babble!
well Eva.. you can set it to tell you the weather every day.. and just leave it by your bedside.. at least you'll know how to dress in the morning!LOL
lol....
OMG i just gor haz's clue lol
im sure i can find uses for it -- i know you can get recipes on it, so maybe i will leave it in the kitchen!
can you play games on it?
Well done, TO. Poor wee pest.
can you use it like an ebook?
ty Haz for the as8
no, i dont think so.
Hey NB!! You home??
ca 5/14 plz
took long enough :/
ca5/14 - prickly desert plants
hello michnick, it's been ages!
I should have given the definition, TO, but it wasn't nearly as interesting an image.
I know I disappeared off the face of the earth when my daughter got engaged, wedding was 2 1/2 wks ago. I just resurfaced.
really.
oh tyvm haz
a great reason. congrats.
You're welcome, ivesy.
Haz, not getting the sa8, devil worshipper. It's not satan...
Thanks!
Less than 3 months to my daughter's wedding now... I'm sure I'll drop off here at some point...LOL
Yes, bichon, add three letters to the end of satan.
congrats mich. :)
ad a beautiful drive today and saw many, many ca5 with fruit ready for picking! I WISH we had some winter weather!
ty again haz
m9 -- you havent torn all your hair out just yet, i presume? ;)
It is so exciting m9191, is this your first child to get married? It was an amazing experience, & still is!!
how was the wedding Mich?
You're welcome, bichon.
eva it is your first christmas, did you get a speial ornament?
yes.. first.. and no Eva.. she's a very together girl and she's doing most of it
OH! It was gorgeous and my daughter looked just like a princess.
awww... sweet!
we bought ourselves a special ornament. surprisingly, neither of our mothers gave us one! but his mother had hand-embroidered stockings for everyone in his family, so now i have my very own. :)
That is nice Eva, every first should be special.
very nice.
that's special! sounds lovely Eva
Did you get lots of pics Mich?
A good friend and her son took around 500 pics, but we haven't gotten the professional pictures or the video yet.
oh good... those non-professional ones are sometimes the best!
But then I'm a big fan of candids
just found the octopus arm
She kind of made some people annoyed but she got some gorgeous shots. She came and hung out at the house while we were all dressing, getting made up, etc. I love those pics the best!!
ty TO ! back to hunt some more
did everyone get just what they wanted for christmas? or hanukkah?
octopus arm?
I didn't get anything, which is what I expected, so I am happy
For me it's not so much about the presents... it's the food!LOL
yes, Annie.. it starts with the camp home
One of eight, Annie.
My Chanuka present was a new son-in-law and his wonderful family. I couldn't be happier (oh, and the pearls I just HAD to have to match my wedding outfit.....)
Tim and Gage got me an indoor remote control helicopter! ROFL
ah, thanks!
My kids chipped in and bought me a Kindle Eva. I was totally surprised.
Hi can anyone clue nme the no9 plz? Completely stuck
(and a tripod.. which I really wanted)
no9 - negative prefix and then one who paints pictures.
TY for ca5 and te8 clues, but I missed as8.
I have one MollyL......and love it!
Sandie...not a Picasso
as8 - relatiing to the sound of words. Or think of a donkey sitting on top of a picnic pest.
i didnt get the #1 thing on my list (a particular pair of booth, that apparently have a 6-8 week wait on them) but i did get many things i love. including a kitchenaid mixer! YAY!
as 8 donkey + squished picnic pest
Wow! thanks for that one.
oohhh.. a kitchenaid! what color?
Ooo, a Kitchenaid Mixer. Very cool.
thinkof SITTING on top of a picnic pest. but haz i too ladylike to say ;)
Molly, I am not getting it. (looking for Pablo)
tilt-top or bowl lift?
red. :D
You know me so well, TO.
Haha, got it
haz IS
Thanks!!
yknow, i didnt even look. i believe it is a tilt-top.
ma8 - looks like a cross between a spider and one of those Spanish headgear things.
When Aiden gets married... she'll be taking her kitchenaid with her. I shall miss it
hers is red too
dear husband thought it was insane to ask for a $300 mixer, but i had to explain about all the possible attachments, and that it can be more than just a mixer, and that it will last a lifetime!
oh, how many more christmas cookie i shall be able to bake next year. :D
absolutely, start with good stuff.
What kind of boots Eva?
TY for no8 and as8
My mother has her KitchenAid that she got as engagement present in 1949. She doesn't use it much anymore, but it works!
you'll use it more than the dash probably!
I've had my Kenwood Mixer for 28 years and it's still going strong.
They're great for bread...
most definitely more than the Dash...heh
You're welcome, Scrabbler.
i was already flipping through the recipes, and the first thing i said is "i wanna bake some bread!"
I killed a Kenwood in less than 14 years (I make whole wheat Challah a lot, but still...) I now have an Electrolux/Magic Mill. I am buying my daughter a BOsch.
oh yeah! I found a few good recipes for this year!
Molly: these boots http://tinyurl.com/25fnzwo
yes the cookie aspect is the most compelling for me
Last year's Christmas present was a Magimix processor and it has more than earned its keep already. I can relate to THOSE gadgets.
those are cute Eva!
I love my Magimix. Daughter is getting a Braun, but it's a gift so I cannot say a word.
I want a bosch
Those are very nice Eva. You don't often see a cushioned insole in a pair of boots.
hello all
great conversation going on... just had to add something. I've had my Kenwood Chef for 45 years, and all I've had to replace is the plug end !!
Hooray for Kenwoods!
Hello, peri.
i have a tough time with boots because i have a wider-than-wide calf. theyre expensive, but i see them as an investment piece that would be in my closet for YEARS.
a very nice man stopped his truck and asked if we needed help shoveling. I had already done the front walk. He is doing the driveweay and in front of the garage for only $0!
oh great... Gage wants me to drive him to his work. He's convinced that he has a workplace that really exists... it's next to the star ingredients store...
Do you bake heavy doughs Diane? If it's mostly cakes the Kenwood is the best, but I've replaced the motor, the gears, and it just wasn't worth it anymore.
may buy them for myself, but hubby thinks that i will lose some weight + not need such a wide shaft in the boot soon.
it has the heavier stainless steel bowl... I wish things lasted like that nowadays !!
ta9?
nice Peri!!
Gotta go check on meatloaf, BRB
yes... I have the bread hook, meat grinder, juicer, etc. I admit that for bread now, I just do my dough in the breadmaker, and form my own.
ta9 - same structure as a word that means to tempt, to place something attractive within reach, but change the final consonant for another.
hi peri
The word ends with badly spelled opposite of dark.
hi all! happy holidays
Hello, Pinny.
My girls have always borrowed it for Christmas cookies, but now 2 of them have Kitchenaids.... I'll bet my Kenwood outlasts them !!
Hi Haz!
hi Pinny
thank you haz
Or, t plus a picnic pest combined with the Wonderland Girl, one letter different at the end.
You're welcome, ruru, I see you 've got it.
forgot... have the blender on it too.
Thank you, Hazel, Major Cluegiver!
Hi Aloyisius
Major Cluegiver sounds like a rank in the army!
It's better than General Dogsbody, all the same.
ok, must attack plow leavings before they solidify. oh right, i've been saying that for hours now :)
LOL, No army stint for you, you are needed here at the front of Babble
ce 7/44 plz
Owl, Stay here and relax...you can always shovel
ok, off to forage for some food. coworkers went out for some Pho, which i want SO badly, but that place only accepts cash, of which i have NONE.
one word you will never see here: an4/4 plus sa4/4. we are very pro sa4/4
i can't believe your colleagues wouldn't shout you some pho!
ce7/44 - start with the coin, then add Miss Gardner (Sinatra fame) but change the final vowel.
oh, im sure they would if i asked, but i dont like asking or help with that... i can charge lunch on my card here in the office.
tyvm haz, glad im old enough to know her name lol
going to check on baking potatoes
ok - fair enough eva :)
I am as well, ivesy - some of the younger ones would be wondering what I was on about.
TY for ta9
i have just been CRAVING pho with this weather, but hubby doesnt like it and this place near work only just opened up. will have to go next time!
You're welcome, Scrabbler.
Younger ones who have not been educated in the beauty of the on-screen Ms. Gardener have lost out on something special.
She was rather beautiful, wasn't she?
has everyone had a decent holiday?
Holiday? I'm like a wet rag.
porquoi, Haz?
I drove to work today practically singing that the TO-DO list was TO-DONE!!!
It just takes quite a bit of energy to cater/look after people.
BBS, must start filling in new schedule book with Jan-Mar work schedule + appts.
LOL Haz... your choice of words is very appropriate here. To date - 3 burst pipes, resulting in 3 separate floods. My whole house is awash with wet rags!
i guess you need a holiday to get over this one...
And you've to try to make it look effortless as well.
Oh, Soodle, horrible to have to deal with that. I will complain no more!
lol....yer right Haz.....
Am not able to run after folk now, however I just get tired thinking about it and planning who should be doing what!!!
It's my own fault. I hate offers of help in the kitchen so family know to leave me to it and I end up wondering how people who run hotels/bed and breakfast places cope.
Having said all that, the house is tidy again, washing is done and ironed, nobody got poisoned and we had no floods.
Hello all. Happy Christmas etc. I am stuck on the last qu8 word. I have 4 quan and 4 quar what is next>
haha - good result
The last qu8 word combines a liquid measure with the sort of thing you'd have on bathroom/kitchen floor and wall.
Aha! thanks - statistics strikes again !
You're welcome, scouser.
Hi Scouser!
am overwhelmed by all the choices on "apple tv" gift from our daughter.. like an apple to EVE? amazing..
Oh poor Soodle! Floods are the worst. Especially when it's cold.
Hi fellow Babblers!
hi beach
hi Beach!
Hello, beach.
Hi Flask - I am anchored to this comfy chair and trying not to think about cooking, but I will have to get up and do some soon. Perhaps just another word or two? ......
hi beach
finally whittled it down to 30, break time.. bbs
Back again. I didn't get the satan clue earlier. Any help?
Just add three letters to satan to make it a person with allegiance to him.
I don't see satan.
Devil, lucifer...
Aye Scouser I still have a long way to go here.....so I better not move yet!
Scrabbler, literally, the name you're quoting plus three letters.
Haz could you clue the first 2 qu8 for me please?
Aha, I guess I have been well-trained to avoid Satan!
clue for ce 7/44
penny + It's ***n calling. <----cosmetics company
The first qu8/55 - remember Mary who invented the mini-skirt - use her name and run it into what you use to cover bathroom/kitchen floors and walls.
ty
The second qu8 = Start with a liquid measure and add a seabird.
Or, add a consonant to the end of the piece divided into four (qu7)
thanx Haz!
You're welcome, Flask.
so, i may have missed out on getting Pho today, but at least i still got soup on a cold day -- old fashioned tomato soup + grilled cheese sammich! YAY!
grilled cheese--yummy
I have to ask, what is Pho?
Pho is a vietnamese noodle soup. you can select what type of meat, if any, you want in it. then it comes with bean sprouts, lime wedges, hot sauce + stuff on the side that you can add in... SO TASTY.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ph%E1%BB% 9F
That makes sense now, EvaN. No potatoes? You can't call it a proper meal...
dont noodles usually take the place of potatoes?
It seems to me that noodles are to Asian food as potatoes are to European/American food.
144/140 now. Enough til tonight when I am home from work.
clue for cl 7 please
Yes, for poor souls who can't grow potatoes.
Nah not really, not in my house anyway!
cl7 - the noise that's made when you fall down the stairs or something.
I had to laugh when I asked Soodle what constituted a proper Irish Christmas dinner and she listed three kinds of potatoes!
i cant think of many (or any!) dishes that would have noodles AND potatoes. the closest i can think of is gnocchi, which really is a "noodle" made out of potato!
ty HAZ
You're welcome, Boo.
Okay, the talk of potatoes reminds me that I'll need to think about food again. I'll head towards the kitchen and wish you all the best with the grid. Bye for now!
"When out on the lawn there arose such a CL7, I sprang from the bed to see what was the MA6."
thnx eva
bye Haz....
Which also gives you Church Of The La6/18 Day Saints.
and your clothes are in TA6s
but lets not NA6 on about it...
They are not!!! : P
are you sure the pests didnt get into them? you may have to call yourself a RA6!
clue for el 7
oops meant ec 7
Well Eva, you and I could Na6/18 about that all day, I guess.
which might make us women a "SL 8/40 NOT !
ec 7 - the distension or dilation of a duct, vessel, or hollow viscus
who want to bemy friend on here

my sister is snowed in with an invalid husband and none of the caregivers can get to her house!!!
what a tale of woe
oh no, ruby. can she manage for a day?
Snow clearers in NYC are just not up to snuff
she's going crazy!
she hired somebody to clear the sidewalk, but the aides all come from distances
are the busses and subway running ruby
and her husband won't talk to her! she said it's like having a 170 lb dog that you hate which got us both laughing our heads off!
she's been managing since Saturday

hi rth! merry belated christmas
hi Beth, happy holidays to you. Did you have a pleasant one?
it was a great weekend. I was sick as a dog, but my kids were home and everyone was happy to be together. How about you?
Hi Red, enjoying the snow? Hi Beth.
sounds good. We are all snowed in in New England at my sisters house, and I think I have just come down with a sore throat, but fun all the same! I got to shovel!
hi molly!
Hi Molly. I am, Indeed. THough I do want to go home on the 29th.

why can u not enter the "devil" word, but you can enter the extension word?
my family is dragging me into the 21st century. they got me an ipad. i am bemused
first one is capitalized, frog, second one is not, plus enable (our dictionary) is a quirky thing of wonder
makes me wonder!!!
An Ipad is a great gift. Oh how I wish. I recieved some nice shirts and torrone, food item.
you will be amazed at what is acceptable, and what is not. some foreign words work, some english ones dont
yummy torrone :)
yes, ive noticed quite a few english (non american english) words are not accepted. oh well!!!
bbl sys xxx
always look for both brit and yank spelings they usually both work
I am encouraging my family to make use of Amazon's wish list. You don't have to purchase the items there, but it gives family and friends an idea of what you might REALLY like for Christmas or your birthday.
bye frog
i always feel funny asking. I asked for one of the first things ever this year, and i have been married forever
i am always happy when someone tells me what they would like though...
somehow i expect them to just "know" me after all this time. pretty silly seeing as they dont get that i would like the dirty dishes in the dishwasher
I hear you Beth. I think I'm the easiest person in the world to buy for. But somehow, my Sister is the only one who hits the mark every time.
I'm also very happy with the shirts and torrone. You can not get good torrone in Florida.
My sister is pretty stressed, so being hosted for 5 days is plenty!
We have had several 4 star meals. Beef wellington, Ham, stuffed flounder. tonight is homemade pizza.
Wow Red, excellent food.
My brother in law. and portabello Mushroom soup which was heavenly.
Oh and I forgot the Christmas Eve spread...
sounds yummy, red. everyone ate well here too. i had to contend with dietary issues, so we had a roast tenderloin, pecan crusted bourbon chicken, and veal francais. I am not cooking for a week
the pecan crusten chicken sounds excellent!
love mushroom soup :)
And what was on the Christmas Eve spread?
Hi all, how is Babbleland
it was really good. my sons gf is lactose intolerant and doesnt eat red meat so it is always an adventure
I just finished 3 hours of pushing the snow blower around.
portobello mushroom soup sounds delish, red. is there a recipe?
did you do the italian fish feast for christmas eve?
Brie en croute, (spelling?), eels in a variety of sauce, mozzerella and sun dried tomato balls,
hi wht
They seem to have skipped many of the fish dishes in favor of a buffet of things.
PLus cheese cake to die for!
Poor wht! You must be exhausted.
but there were fishes.
love cheesecake
oh red, you will be running and running when you get home i bet. did you kennel the pup or bring him with you?
Not exhausted but I know I will be stiff in the morning.
kennel.
whelp, just came back from the toronto airport, not flying to NYC today, not going until thurs
take a hot shower wht maybe it will help
wht have you been shoveling out?
@*#$!&! american airlines, checked internet, phoned, had them text me and they all said flight was going
help with sa8 pls
If I think I'm going to be sore in the morning, I take a hot bath and then some aspirin before bedtime. It usually takes the edge off the next day.
unpleasant.
I already took a hot shower, and it did feel good.
shirl, I am sorry.
nyc is still a mess shirl only one or two flights out per airport
One who worships the devil Peri
I get to airport (1+hr trip) and it's cancel
I am hoping to make it out of Providence on the 29th...
i expect problems but why not say so EARLIER? save me the trip?!
oh shirl, bummer
ty Molly
79 left, bbl
the hour trip is terrible, I am so sorry!
and i find out the plane is EMPTY and sitting at Toronto waiting for the nyc airports to reopen
Yes, we cleaned out our two driveways and a neighbors. And no matter which way the wind blew, the snow blew in my face.
bye peri
clue please for li5/10....its the 4th 5/10 down
we all know it's going to reopen today, so there's an empty plane doing nothing with 2 days worth of passenger backlog
Oh WHT. I did my sister and BILs driveway as a Holiday gift. I found it a novelty but it was not an easy one.
Shirl, that sounds so unfair.
Red, yes the novelty does wear off after a while.
i understand if the plane had to come from JFK to pick up peeps but it was already HERE!!!
I can imagine.
Before we got the snow blower I figured I never needed to go to the gym in the winter.
li+ ***manian devil
Of course, I never go to the gym in the summer either. :^)
thanx again bethn
:)
the gym is a nice place, but only if you enjoy it.
re5/14 please
I must go and socialize with the family. I love them, but when one is feeling cold and flu-ish it becomes less fun.
re + double consonant + vowel
Bye red. You can stop by my house anytime you crave shovelling snow.
thanx bethn and bichon for clue, FIREWORKS for FLASK......goodnight to you all..X
Cabin fever bigtime.
woot flask see you tomorrow
hi kap
Hi Kap
Hiding from snow and from 21 year old home on a break and in bitchy mood
hard to have them gone harder to have them back
When does the age of resentments stop?
You betcha, as said by you-know-who
When they have kids and the kids drive them crazy
when they move out for good usually
PAYYYYYYBACK!
Then they call you up for advice
news for you bethn, still doesn't stop
my son will have monsters if there is justice
i've moved out, still have issues with parents
She calls for advice when she's not here, then criticizes everything we have ever done for her...
Capped off by her belief that her younger sister gets everything she was deprived of.
Capped off by her belief that her younger sister gets everything she was deprived of.
mine are both gone now, and are very lovely people. when they are home, they revert to kids, clothes on floor etc, but still lovely
Lovely for 3 days at home, after that it gets old.
we all have issues of one type or another
my issues with my mother stem from sandwich generation problems. family to deal with and aging mother in poor health
I don't have living parents.
that is sad kap. I lost my dad last year, still very painful
Now that my children are married with children of their own, they think we're geniuses
So my mother never got to say to me "payback's a bitch, isn't it?" She died well before I had a family.
But somewhere she is laughing at me.
i am waiting for that bichon. at the rate we are going, both grands and i will be in diapers at the same time...
it happens beth. My grandchildren are total joys. The kids do the work and we get the enjoyment
I may not live that long.
It will happen. Even after you have given up hope.
thats how i feel kap. son and his gf are too poor, son just gave notice at his software co that he is quitting in8 weeks to devote time to a career in performance. : /. Daughter is currently unattached
Both my children have turned out to be great parents, which warms our hearts greatly
I have a sort of separate studio and I have been in it for 3 days straight. At one point she came in and said "It's not fair- you can just escape in here."
If she hadn't been screaming all over the house, I wouldn't have to hide.
She thinks we're pigs.
We are, but it's not nice to mention.
The maid quit.
What can you do?
Just hold your breath and break will be over
:)
that's rather rude, pointing out hostess' housekeeping efforts
Fun as a re6 exam.
dinner back later
Into the PB with you Bethany.

hi babblers
hi welki!
i keep typing RECITAL over and over and over
must go practice for recital bbl.
really mixi? what do you play?
piano. piano solo and piano 4 hands.
WOW that's wonderful mixi :)
solo: debussy, rachmaninoff, brahms, and liszt
oh it will be beautiful
when my kids were small, i was fortunate enough to have room for two pianos, one a grand and one baby grand. all three played, sometimes four hands .. and if they had a friend over, we were sometimes gifted with four hands x2
4 hands: faure, brahms, rossini, shubert
when is the recital, mixi???
ooooh.... do you play the Golliwog's cakewalk ?
July
would love it if you would post a video for us
hi again diane! I was drooling over your trifle
yes, doing the entire childrens corner suite.
mixi, wish i could be there :)
there's a serving or two left, but eldest daughter has dibs on it !!
will have to improve computer and recording skills to put it on the web.
would be wonderful, mixi
I had 2 sisters who played the piano as well, and all three of us on one piano was a blast. The one in the middle always got poked in the ribs from both sides !
hehe dianed
I still play often... mainly at the nursing homes, and sometimes at church or for a funeral.
we have so many talented Babblers!
We three sisters are now 70, 69, and 67 ! I think the youngest one got the most rib pokes !
lots of musicians .. a babble orchestra :)
My dad was a pianist and organist ..I've got quite a few of his piano pieces on my computer. I could not live without my music.
i play bass guitar
i liked that video of the youtube symphony orchestra .. brilliant idea
my oldest daughter works as a paramedic, but has her music ed. degree
I have a B. Mus., but did computer programming for 30 years.
all the best with the concert, mixi ! I used to love to play the golliwog's cakewalk.... great fun.
it's a hard business, teaching music
and harder if you're a performance musician
The piano is also great exercise for arthritic fingers.... so is babble.... that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!!
Well off to dinner. 94 left. BBL
sheesh, some of these words are ***WORDS FROM MARS***
enjoy wht..... I was thinking I should be doing the same thing... I'm down to 81
Mmmm dinner sounds good
darn i have no food here, i think i need to go out and get something... maybe sushi!
good evening babblers. i'm enjoying a glass of cab sauv so cheers!
cheers Goodie!
AS8? please.
oh a big grid. that might require a couple glasses of wine.
howdy GE:)
gramma, it's as + not your daughter + picnic pest
*passing Goodie another bottle of Cab*
hi crossy! been out of the house this month?
ty
snow past your eyeballs?
5 left. I've gone babble-blind
yup been good the week leading up to christmas,we have been fairly mobile, though there has been a bit of melt here and there we are still pushing 6 feet of snow around
c'mon gramma! you can do it!
10 here and i've got the same affliction, gramma
i still have 91 left, but i' d be happy to clue if it's a word i have
i cant believe all these ac words. i have only 1 :(
make that 2
that's good crossy. wouldn't want that crazy cabin fever to overtake your family.
i have 5 AC words... how many are there???
8
8
oh soups on. hubby made chicken noodle tonight. yum yum. bbl
me too cosdem. and I can't believe that the machine can find 13 ra words.
dangit! i need 3 more
hi bugsaw!
hi monkey and everyone here. I didn't intend to spend all day on this. Was I dumb or what?
*looking furiously for 2 more ACs*
ac7/8 build on the ac5.12
found em all whew
yes i have those, thanks lynxx
crikey .. done! my last word was boobs on a tirade!
make that boob on a tirade :)
is that like dolly parton jogging?
good clue welki
boobs on a tirade?
Congrats Welki!
welki, please give the first 2 letters of that one please
on one side only, cos
ti
found it
well i just tried TITRAN and that's not it :(
ti 7/28, monkey
hmmm
you are almost there monkey, one more letter on the end.
HA!
it is not an escaping boob
i got mixed up with the Dolly Parton jogging clue, haha
at my age, they don't run anymore, just sort of get dragged along
how come i got ti 7/28 right away? cause it is a common ocurance lol
better start ducking crossy!!
lol
geeze, i don't know, crossy *eyeroll*
hehe
my bad
alright, back to looking for AC words
*calls out to Elegant ... yoooohoooo, someone needs a spanking* (yeah, i know, don't say it)
i hate a words
i'm with you, TO, i have trouble with ALL vowel words
not getting the ac7 word
li5? before He's checking his li** to see who's naughty or nice.
i am deciding between babble and organizing my paper work, it is in shambles
welk don't start him up
ac5 + not off
ac7 1st part of a play 1st person vowel and writer of many poems minus the a
owl, don't use double entendres *lol*
gramma, it is the plural of stuff on your sweaters
geez, thx for the ac7
not an actual word, in other words
gramma, the li5 i have is the plural of the stuff in your bellybutton
wait, what'd i say? seriously?
ty. I told you I was babble-blind
could have been a very, very subtle one, owl. made me laugh anyway :)
oh heck, i need a third option. perhaps a phone call.
not sur ewho that writer of many poems is
TO, try ac5 + not off
ty.
now i see
hmmm in7.28 is the archaic version of the (beauty contest) en7.28
have the word now (thanks) but still don't recognize the poet
the unknown a***ymous
i think it was a joke about the poet, because many poems are wrtieen by a***ymous

Sorry to be so vague
gramma, i thought it was a cute clue :)
OK i'm going to the grocery store now... BBL my peeps
How about MA8, anyone?
ty lil*monkey
ma8 add South Africa to the ma6.21
it's a math term, part of a logarithm
safe trip monkey
I'll try ty
got it
vh1 is playing teena marie videos. i never think of her as a soul singer, she always was more disco to me
South Africa?
brb
You just need 2 letters Car
and which ma 6/21?
the praying ma6.21
TY! Got it!
yw
i think of teena marie and i think of prince
she was rick james' girlfriend i think?
she was .. after she was with prince, i think
maybe, the timing is right.
she could sing, for sure
hang on .. will google
Hey, my name is here!
not under godthaab it's not! welcome
No, my real name.
Thanks.
Bye everyone
bye lynxx
bye lyn
owl .. i think you're right, she and prince were just friends and worked together. rick james thought there was more going on (and prince egged him on), so there was tension. she had an incredible voice
i want to be your lover girl was disco but the other stuff was more soul
i just know that song more than her others because it's a dance hit
i remember :)
on another musical note, I am listening to "Hark! Classic Christmas Songs as Perfomed in a Beatles Style" by the Fab Four.....kinda like a Beatles Chritmas mashup
hi jeff .. where on the island are you?
out in patchogue
under 16-20 inches of snow
25 shoveling trips
had to shovel each time i took the dogs out
take it easy with that
today would have been a good day to put those victorian collars on them and let them shovel themselves a path
my great pyrenees was fine
the pomeranian and little papillon not so fine
the pyrenees can plow through just about anything, i'd bet .. but your wee dogs must have a rough time in bad weather
i used to have basset hounds .. was fun to watch them track in the snow.
I need to invent a combination shovel and leash for just such an occasion
or get yourself a teenager

I think it hit a lot of the eastern Seaboard! Phila and NYC got 20 inches.!

It was only about a foot and a half of snow but there was a major storm surge that flooded Scituate.

I had mine removed 60 years ago, at age 10 ;-)
I had mine snipped at age 3, removed properly at age 9, 74 years ago ;-)

:-)) aren't we so lucky Jilli, that we can still add !
tonsils
oh crap
I'd had several other surgeries and dreaded the smell of ether. They told me they would use 4711 colgone this time, hahaha. It was still ether and I woke up half way through too. Never could stand 4711 after that.
lol...........
same with my younger brother... he was to have his out at the same time as me... got a cold... missed the surgery, and still has them at age 65

I have a bad cold right now... I fear it may be bronchitis....so sore from coughing. This is very rare for me
we are fanatics on handwashing in our house.. and even guests are asked to wash thier hands on entering..... we feel that it has helped... we are so careful because my hubby has emphysema and is on oxygen 24/7 and don,t want him to get sick
it is very important.
also- we do not drink tap water unless it has been boiled or filtered
also, we use some homeopathics for prevention and treating symptons
i never used to drink tea... now i have about 30 kinds it the stuff and love most of them
I guess that when there is an affliction such as your husband has, you take every precaution available to you.
yes....... fear is a great motivating factor..lol
clue for ti 7
I'm missing that one too, boobear... sorry
he is 84 and though he knows he has a serious condition, he has no idea of how serious... but he is amenable to what my son and i want to do for him and he is doing quite well in spite of his condition... his drs seem to be pleased with his progression

Hi PIni!! Have you had a good holiday?
Oh, new census number came out. Fairfax County, Virginia is now home to 1 in 8 Virginians.
hi bugs ;) still working on it...one more thing to accomplish, then it will be a good holiday :)
Bugs -- I demonstrated my GPS to my son and grandson over Xmas and they are now in love too. I spent today downloading the latest maps, which I should have done sooner to save some $$.
We should do that too jilli. I have never downloaded any and ours is a couple of years older than yours. oops
It's NOT cheap, bugs!
