oh yes, my mother grew up in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, where they made a lot of maple syrup, my grandmother did it for me - just to show how it was done
we were in Ontario
lots of sugar maples in Ontario but not producing as much as Quebec (I don't believe)
I think it's a treat just at the time of sugaring off
we use to have maple sugar on our porridge
i was raised in maine and we did the maple syrup thing also.. it brings back wonderful memories

I have made 5 wedding dresses, but it all started when a friend of my sons was in tears because she couldn't affort the £800 for the dress she wanted and my son, bless him, said I bet my mum could make that. I did and it look the same and cost £32.00

I've had the pain for 6-8 months, and sooo, I just thought I should have it looked at. it was so interesting, apparently my hips are shaped differently and make them more prone to this.

Problem with getting all those kids in my Sisters school to grade level is that about 65% pf the students dont start the high school year speaking english...
having taught in philadelphia and then in east orange (which must be similar to providence schools) there is no question that the schools are failing the inner city kids, but the schools alone are not to blame. it's easy to blame teachers, and there are certainly teachers who aren't worth their automatic astronomical salaries --older, less energetic, and often burnt out)
All the while they gave the Police and fire services a 2% raise...
i hate to keep saying it over and over again, but if we don't change attitudes in the homes, we aren't going to change the allmighty test results... and charter schools aren't going to do it either
charter schools are private schools? ie the parents pay expensive fees?
several schools around here, especially in lower-income areas, require parents to come to the school and work with their kids on a regular basis.
Charters schools are part of the public school system, but are privately run, Lyn
it's a difficult concept to explain lynxx. they aren't public, but the public system is giving them money. , and selective, therefore don't include some of our most difficult kids. and don't follow tenure, etc. since the teachers aren't unionized. . but that might change down the line
thats really it. my sister really works with her students, though she teaches art, she also does yearbook every year and such. it is just frustrating...
and the Providence teachers ARE unionized.

In my view, there should be an annual tests for politicians.... fire the lot and go from there.
I like the things she teaches with the students, like learning about patterns, following steps to create something (directions) starting what you finish and cleaning up after yourself.
