I saw a cute video online yesterday. There was a statute of a man sitting on a bench and a dog kept bringing it his stick for him to throw and couldn't understand why he wouldn't play with him and throw the stick

oh... lots of crazies, mostly through work.
the most recent really crazy guy started last september, when i treated his dog
the dog was brought in by a friend of the owner. owner couldn't bring dog in himself, because he was, drum roll please, in jail.
oh my God!!! Dogs and September... what the hell is wrong with people!!
so what did he do?
dog was obviously in badbad shape, so i called the local jail and asked to talk to mr bill. they said they didn't have him, he was in jail in the next county over.
so i called them. (long distance) and asked to talk to the owner. explained to the desk sarge who and why and she sent someone to get him out of his cell.
had a very very long and frustrating conversation with mr bill, explaining what was going on with his dog and what his options were. after repeatedly explaining why giving the dog something to "flush him out" was not going to address the extremely enlarged liver, i got permission to do an exploratory surgery and take biopsies.
which i then promptly did. biopsy confirmed liver cancer, dog rapidly worsened and was euthanized by a different doctor at the clinic the next weekend.
during this, i called and talked to mr bill repeatedly, explaining what was happening, what we found in surgery, what the biopsy said, all of that.
he even called the clinic twice collect.
we made arrangements to hold the body until this spring so he could bury it (something we do not normally do).
and i thought that was it.
mr bill sent $50, and a letter thanking me for everything, and saying he'd get us more money soon.
several other people came in and paid on his bill (apparently it was a popular dog), and this february, mr bill sent another $150 which should have paid off the bill... except that both checks bounced.
I am absorbing...
so the friend that initially brought the dog in redeemed the checks. So the total was paid, though only $50 of the $700 bill by the owner.
then mr bill got out of jail, and the fun really began.
oh no!!! what next!?
he called and wanted to talk to the doctor that worked on his dog, but not on the phone, he wanted to talk in person.
so my receptionist made him an appointment, and he came in to "talk"
which ended up being a lovely conversation of total crazy, in which he accused me of doing unethical, experimental, painful surgery on his dog without permission, and demanded that I refund him for the bill (which he didn't even freaking pay!) and provide him with "proof of my ethical standing" AND get him a replacement dog.
a replacement dog?? WTF??
is he friggin nuts?? He didn't pay the darn bill either!
he flatly denied having ever spoken to me before in his life, certainly he never had a conversation with me while he was in jail, he never under any circumstances would have approved surgery like that and I was obviously a terribly, money-grubbing, dog-hating psycho
oh, and he'd see me in jail.

then i called the jail, and talked to the same desk sarge and asked if they kept records of phone calls to inmates. sarge, who distinctly remembered the whole thing, informed me that not only do they keep records, they may even have recordings through emergency dispatch! heheheheheheheh

i called the CO, and told her the whole thing, and she says that mr bill absolutely knew what was going on, because he was trying to leverage her into letting him out early to go see the dog, and claiming that the only reason the dog was ill was that he wasn't there to take care of it, so it was entirely CO's fault that the dog died. yes, CO = case officer

they (unsurprisingly) determined that i'd met standard of care, so the only basis for claim was the owner's denial of permission.
