no mrp, will take it to watch tomorrow, ok? I'm really ready to droop
115 words for tomorrow
no prob babe... take it easy and have a great sleep!
well done hun... niters!
just back from kitchen chores -- and watching the kookas and maggies and ? -- what's the other bird at the end?
mrp, I wish you could b here at this time of year when we have the hummingbirds and goldfinches and purple finches and robins and...By October there won't be much left although there may be Steller's jays and pileated woodpeckers and juncos.
the currawong jilli
currawongs are black around the head/neck, magpies are white around the neck and kookas... well they are just kingfishers! beautiful sounds hey?
thanks -- msut look that up! I love Aussie words.
we have finches etc... but not in the city!!
currawong is aboriginal
kookas laugh -- I took my son to the Bronx Zoo in NYC to meet one. Remember my grandparents were from Australia, so my aunt who lived in NYC insisted we do that.
our kookas laugh in the morning light and the twilight... luv it
i took lots of audio of kookaburras when i was in aus
also a myth is 'when kookaburras laugh, rain is on the way'
I should have said I love those aboriginal words -- like Woomera for the missile site (or whatever it is) -- so onomatopoeic.
i like wollongong
the town is ok, but the name is solid
I like wooloomooloo
lovely!
you should try and find the song by 'Lucky Starr' called 'I've been everywhere' it names a lot of the weird Aussie town names
Oonadatta is one
i wonder if that is a take-off of the johnny cash song
it is a great song!!
but the word that takes the cake is the one franmag told us about for the little tiny Hawaiian fish -- the umu-umu-nuku-nuku-apua'a
Coolangatta, Parramatta, Wongaratta
our school had a rum tunnel to wooloomooloo! it was fantastic historic stuff... we were located in darlinghurst
the rum smugglers used it to get to the boatyards... wonderful history indeed
and the place was so friggin spooky! looking down the stairs to the tunnels was like looking into Amytiville!
MrP was that Fort Street Girls?
no, it was SCEGGS Darlinghurst
been to all those places! LOL
thx Only seen the outside of SCEGGS
oooh, am chatting with fran now... will have to bring that one up!! LOL
no diz
sorry diz, didn't mean to say no diz
reading stuff from before!! sorry hun
I've been enjoying the chat and getting nowhere with the grid so I think I'll put it off until tomorrow and head for bed. Say hi to franmag for me, ok, mrp?
tis okies xx
I should be able to find info on the tunnels and put it on my profile!
ok jilli! will do hunny! jilli, before you go, you still interested in playing Lexulous with me??
thanks diz **hugs**
am gonna have a vodka lime and soda for you jilli! luvs ya and chat tomorrow!
sure, mrp, but my visits to lex are very sporadic -- weeks or months of silence and then a spurt of a few days maybe.
enjoy, MrP, hubby just gave me a glass of white wine.....HICC! lol
cool! I will join you diz! bb in two min
((hugs)) mrp and bye bye all!...*poof*
good morning all
Good morning, sprite.
hey peach :)
morning sprite!
have a nice semillon chardonnay in hand!
darn just missed jilli. Great knitting! I did the same, designing with graph paper!
hi mrP :)
this is a nice flowing grid sprite... enjoy :)
will do. My love is being very moody, for some weeks now, which is sometimes very hard to live with. He is off today with canoe and Terra, so looking forward to a relaxed day ;)
oh sprite... they go through manopause at times
sorry it is happening now... give yourself time and do for yourself nice things :)
they do! And they want to be left alone then, I believe. The kids and me are going to have a lovely, lazy, very relaxed day with the 3 of us.
bought a new jigsaw puzzle yesterday, my girl and I love to do puzzles in the vacation.
perfect !!
do you have a jigsaw mat??
no we don't :( Couldn't find one big enough. Not even for a 1000 pieces puzzle!
you can get them from puzzle shops... you put your puzzle together on it... and as you need to, you just roll it up and move it... the puzzle stays together on the special mat, including all the pieces you have... you can buy two mats and put them together!
we have one the size of a table!!
hmz this shop didn't have them. But putting 2 together is smart! Will look into that when we get home. I really need something like that, so we can puzzle and then move the mess for dinner.
they had a 32,000 pcs puzzle in that shop! Can you believe doing one? But it wasn't beautiful. If I ever get crazy enough to try one that size, I want a very beautiful one!
sprite, if the man is in a mood, perhaps avoid for now... let him come to you when the 'time' is right...
on to puzzles....
32, 000!! that would take months to do!!
you can buy them online to the size you want too... puzzles are also available online... you can find a beauty there!
mrP, my love put up with me for years and years while I was depressed and handicapped. He is entitled to his own off times, right? ;) LOL @ manopause... we call it penopause!
oh I am gonna look!
too right!! penopause is a peculiar problem!! LOL
hubby made up different size boards for all my jigsaw puzzles...but when he had to buy a sheet of ply wood 5 feet x 3 1/2 feet to put on our verandah table....he said NO BIGGER...LOL
hey I found a jumbo mat online. Not cheap, but relatively big. I think if I bought 2 I could do all puzzles we like.
my luv started to fall apart at the seams after the fire... just tragic really
morning all...
lolllll dizgrannie!
what a sweetie diz!! LOL
hi FFG
hi fish2
your love has been through hell and back along with you too, mrP. We all reach our fall-apart stage at some point, alas. All we can do is be there for eachother and not give up on one another, I think.
dizgrannie, where do you KEEP all those boards?
sprite! if you have 5 minutes, go to my profile and look at the video I took today of the birds!! it is really very nice :)
hi
hi lady :)
too right sprite... it was just such a shame that it took the work of a pinhead prick to pull him down
I have all the time in the world today. Am checking now
p/s want a 32000 piece puzzle. 1000 and 1500 are too easy
thanks sprite... enjoy the sounds!
hi infern :)
have you moved off the lounge yet?? and I hope not!! take it easy hunny
infern, go check my video out please, is in profile
lol, magpies through the continents are SO cheeky!
ah lady, I would love to make one... but the smaller one we bought isn't easy, grin.
Yes I got up and showered now drinking ribena
We have a pair of maggies here
the continents?? what do they do??
we have pairs of rainbow lorekeets and the blue/red parrots.. they are just gorgeous. and the Willy birds are so cute!
Mr Pres This is what I miss about Sydney
The are called Dickie-Birds by the older generation
we have them too, mrP. And just as bad. Chasing away other birds, coming almost into the house... did you know Terra befriended one?
no!! Terra is a funny mongrel!! LOL
my dog chases birds!!! she is crazy about them! doesn't touch the chickens... she protects them!! she wishes she could get a bird, but won't ever happen :)
our Maggies are smaller?? I think
Did you know that Kookies only laugh when you do something stupid
nice vid, mrP. And your boy is beautiful.
aussie magies are very tame, except during mating season!
thank you sprite! he is gorgeous!
well, I must be stupid when i wake up early in the morning! LOL with the kookas!
and the rams head on the table... found that in the paddock a few weeks back :)
we had a baby magpie on our garden when terra was a puppy. They leave their nests before they can fly and learn it from the ground up, magpies. The parents still feed them until they can fly. Terra was utter curious and so was baby magpie... they became friends. Mum and dad magpie tried to chase terra away, diving for his head, but he didn't budge, lol. The magpie and terra are still 'friends'.
*in our garden
that is gorgeous sprite!! trusting eachother and protecting too
Then Mating season duck and cover
i can't imagine terra hurting anything!
my cat would have had a meal of it, but vixie would have backed off for sure
he doesn't. He loves to chase ducks into the water, but when they don't go away, all he does is sniff them out and try to get them to play.
I am not right in the head I just said a 9000 piece jigsaw is too easy
lol lady, funny girl! It all depends on the puzzle. I had a 500 pcs puzzle in my hands yesterday that I don't dare to start... it had only roses. And another one, 1000 pieces, with only dalmatian puppies. And that last one is printed on both sides! So you don't even know if you have the right side up.
onset
awwww am so sorry! I miss my Expert.
pb for sprite! all mistake of course!!
This one was in sections like you could say this and this go here
shall I pelt you with Timtams??
good morning everybody
yes the 32,000 was like that too, which kind of spoils the fun, doesn't it.
Mr PRes do you watch Who want's to be a millianair
oh yes please mrP!
hi rubyfoo :)
Sprite do you have a link for that?
no infern
HI Ruby
hi ruby :))
{{sprite}}, {{herin}}, {mrp}}
I watch it sound off.
OK they are calling for women's only cab's driven by women for women. Isn't this reverse discrimination AND they are pink because as a girl I love pink
am looking, lady, I was in a 'real' store that specialises in puzzles and games.
it is only 14.5 hours to Vancouver?? I will book a flight!!
why infern??
why women for women cabs only?? and where?
Because men are pigs here with cabs
lady, this is one like it, only smaller: http://www.amazon.com/Worlds- Most-Difficult-Jigsaw-Puzzle/dp/B00000 K0FI
from what I have read, many women are harassed by cab drivers
at last, a decent-sized grid! yay
That is cute Sprite.
i have been in many cabs, and never had issue! what has happened?
and this is the roses one http://www.jigsaw-puzzle-club.co.u k/Jigsaws/ED14137_Roses-jigsaw-puzzle- w.jpg
Well Elderly lady was punched in a cab she is 81
lady check out this shop: http://www.wirwarspellen.nl/ Tha t is where we were yesterday!
there was an article in the Int'l Herald Tribune about how dangerous hotels can be for women biz travellers
and have you seen the jigsaw puzzles online??
They take advantage of you and think you are stupid and have no clue on direction is another issue. Especially with Middle Eastern men. And I don't mean that as racis either
81 and punched?? so what the hell happened there?
when I worked, I used to travel all the time and only had problems with colleagues, never hotel employees. Maybe things have gotten worse....
No idea Mr Pres. But I really don't have issues.
well, if a middle eastern man said boo to me in a threatening way, I would punch him too!
I once had a cab driver in NY give me a hard time because I wasn't going far enough, started yelling at me (he was Russian, I think) and I just got out of the cab on the curb side and left the door open, so he had to walk around the cab to close it! hahah
No Mr Pres I am just saying this is the issue I ahve had.
mrP: you mean to play online? That I don't like much. I prefer the real thing.
ah, i haven't played them and wondered if they were any good
Sprite I would not have had been able to leave that store.
awesome, isn't it, lady!
i was in a cab with my boyfriend (back when I was 20) and the cabbie wouldn't let us sit together. we had to sit totally separated with a metre between us, not look at eachother or touch eachother.
he was middle eastern and a total dipsh*t
Yes it is Sprite.
mrP, I tried it and didn't like it. You cannot see all the pieces, or you cannot even pick the order, or you get a couple of containers (those are the best puzzles) so you can sort things out for starters, but not like when you sit down with the real thing and 'let things happen'.
Himself wasn't allowed in a cab because ''he was drunk'' and going too far (it was a $40 cab fair). He was drinking and not drunk
Sprite Jigzone online
I have had very good middle eastern cab drivers. And very rude dutch ones, though not many.
and my boyfriend was middle eastern catholic! was totally unacceptable to impose his religion on us
I honestly don't care as long as you are poliet and don't scare me.
far too easy, lady!
True on that Sprite. BAH ok 364 days to the Olympic Games and I am SO over it
I think about 99,5 percent of the dutch cab drivers are polite and helpful. If I have had a bad experience twice in my life, it is a lot.
I sympathise, lady. I have the same thing about Xmas :P
I am hoping food soon
Sprite I am very irritated about how this year Christmas was mentioned in June
what would you like, herin, I am psyching myself up to a cooking mode!
i am psyching myself up to pick up the phone and call for pizza
I could do with a nice breakie, rubyfoo. How about real croissants, crackers with smoked salmon, coffee and orange juice?
I am waiting for himself to bring home Chinese
Ooooooooo Drool Sprite
wow mrP! That is pretty intense :)
breakfast is the meal around here. No slamon in the house but I have homemade peach preserves, farmer eggs, whole wheat bread, expresso.
could get the croissants when we pick you up at the airport and also the salmon!
O stop it
hehehe coming over right now!
no bagels here, though, they don't exist in this part of France
Oooooooooooo They are talking about replacing failing retail stores here with big brand USA stores. Why bother when you can buy at Amazon at less the price
don't need bagles. Croissants, especially real french ones, will do!
What really Ruby I thought they were a universal food (I nearly said fruit)
we have an "artisanat" bakery right in the village that makes superb ones, the best I've had!
I think you have to be in Paris
we have croissants here, but they are not like the real ones, for the most part.
not one bugger will delivery chinese here... such a shame
Oriental food here is not worth eating - no decent Chines or sushi or Thai :(
infern, i am not in favour of globalization, but nothing is stopping it.... I have been battling it since 1996... very sad
we have awesome japanese and thai!
MrPres this is Solly that is closing 50 stores - Dotti P.A etx.
We have no good Chinese here so we are getting it from the proper area
there are virtually no Orientals here, hardly any blacks, few Americans, just French and Arabsd!
the netherlands are pretty multiculti. We have all colours, and most cuisines. Though how much they are like the 'real' stuff I don't know. But great great food!
herring! Indonesian! My few trips to the Netherlands have been superb food experiences. We just happen to be in the wrong part of France for decent food
fortunately, the scenery makes up for it
I thought France was all about food
Indonesian is probably the first 'foreign' food that became popular here.
not Annecy, unless you like things with gloppy cheese
What sort of Cheese?
when I used to cook Indian food (in a former life hahah), I used to make some of the Indonesian side fishes (serundang, e.g.) to go with
ok, pizza on the way!
I hope I am not insulting rubyfoo, but I feel the french cuisine is overrated. I'll take a good Thai meal over a french one anyday.
well done mrP
Reblochon is the local specialty and all kinds of Tomme. But they ruin potatoes with cheese and butter
You know that it is all about Cheese
I'm not French and husband and I totally agree with you. Unless you go to the most expensive restaurants, it is very blan and ordinary, and the beef is horrible
bland*
french cuisine is only good when home cooked
sorry, IMHO
oh yes, they kill meat. Top french cuisine is probably very good, but the rest...
Well I for one would live on cheese and wine
what is very good here, though, is halal lamb, much better than what you can get in the US
although maybe that has changed in the years since we left
not wine for me, but I LOVE the cheeses.
I hate the idea of Halal
why?
in the US you can only get frozen lamb from NZ
what is wrong with halal?
Well Ok I should change that too I hate the idea of any slaughter house that bleeds the animal alive instead of just killing it quickly
don't they stun it first?
BRB food here.
if you want to be sure of a quick kill, you have to do it yourself. 'Regular' slaughterhouses aren't any better than halal.
has anybody read Temple Grandin?
not me
she has developed humane ways of treating cows on their way to slaughterhouses. But I am edging closer and closer to giving up meat.....
have you read Jonathan Safran Foer's Eating Animals? He won't eat anything that had parents
Am watching 'the world's oldest mums'... not even remotely happy to watch
even plants have parents
mrP, there is this magical OFF button on the tv :P
hahah, sprite
oh, want to watch it, but the women are miserable!
everything in these house is so old! and this 72 year old woman is looking to get pregnant!!
yeah well there is a reason women are most fertile when young... it takes loads of energy to bear, birth and raise kids.
she is calling the Ukraine, Kiev to get a clinic to help her out... she is british
have you read that older mens sperm isn't such a great idea, either? That a higher percentage of their offspring are autistic?
she should be locked up in a mental institution. Sorry if it sounds rude.
amen, sprite!
and this woman who is 68 is pushing twin boys... 2 year olds. She now has cancer and is dying
all that strikes me as really sick! after 40, there are too many risks for the babies
Hello all - A mother's job is to raise her child to 18 - a 72yr old probably wont see the child reach 10 - not right
that kind of child wish is only "ME ME ME" and not about the children.
she saw her mother live to 101 and thought she would do that too, she now has only months to live
everyone is not necessarily meant to have children
too right, ursh. And hi :)
hello ursh!
they don't use their eggs or partners sperm
they are an old surrogate to fresh babies.
Eating back soon
even if you live to 101, it doesn't mean you are a fun mum.
I was happy that my son was born when I was 20! I can't imagine shlepping a baby around now and then it was easy
so she leaves behind 2 babies.. and dies. the children are now living with her brother's son.
enjoy, lady
ivf technology is just bullshit when a line isn't drawn
very nice, thank you mum :(
so bloody sad
stupid ass doctors who are money hungry, obviously
have you noticed in the grid, two words for animal poop?
lol rubyfoo... you sure have an eye for those
small obsession.....

Hello DC! Good to see you!
hello dc
12-yr-olds and 5-yr-olds each offer different challenges. Somewhat sullen grumpy morning here today, respectively. :)
LOL Carlee! I just had a vision of us in our Jammies, sitting at uusue's feet..."Please, Sue! Tell us what a good night sleep is like!"
hi, annie
Oh sorry to hear that. Anything we can help with?
once upon a time.....
....in another pl5 and time....
i hate 12 year old boys
until they hit about 14 or 15
worst time for a boy...
eh, not really. all good. :) elder one as about to clean and oil his new-to-him Underwood #3
then..they rock....
in a galaxy far, far away
....life was good. People would put their gentle heads down at night and drift off peacefully into a dream world of happiness and love....
i found years ago that i rather like dealing with middle-schoolers
then....the movie credits rolled...
WHACK! Reality slep!
*sl4
girls at that age are fun...boys suck....then it switches...
Sorry...its not in the grid! * slap!
Where in the world did he find an Underwood, Seain?
Ugh. Time to get ready for the doctor's office. I would much rather stay here.
good luck car.ee {{hugs}}
Thank you!

Have a good morning everyone! Hope to check back in later!
be well, eeyore
they are, Molly, but yet rather common
good luck, car....all will be fine
I saw one in an historical railroad station. I thought it was so amazing, I took a picture of it. Writers are like that about the tools of their trade. : )

Sorry, power went off and killed the router. Typing this on my phone, will be back when things improve.
hope it's soon, uusue

I just quit a message board. It's hard to disentangle!
hi, mom, judi, and kap!
Hi!
glad you haven't quit our message board, kap!!
Hiya, Kap!
this is about the level of intensity I can handle.
No quitting quipping.
i've never been on a a message board...
i do belong to one forum but its on an email addy that i rarely use
This was started in fun but devolved into a couple of people's craziness. I got involved when I had to much time on my hands, after I finished my dissertation. Met some nice people, but it served its purpose.
ah, well, back to real people.
Present company excepted.
we are real people kaps...( looking at self...yeap..skin..bone/..flesh..extra flesh..pretty much real )
you mean you're staying here, or you mean we're not real?
Hi Kap, Uuse and Judi
aawww, Ron Howard's in the grid today!
babble is real.
Good morning, Mom.
hey, judi :-)
hi, mom!
so...read...or firefly????
i am leaning towards firefly
read what, Carlee?
either harry potter or the help...or red riding hood ( the movie version that was out...prereading for my daughter)
OMG I never find giant words on my own -- just found sc9/60!! LOL
I loved The Help
the help is sooo good!
yay for une
I'm worried about the movie version -- previews look a bit "cute"
and that is NOT a cute story!
Une, does it play off the sc 4/5 ... at the airport you get a full body one of these
no, it's a snake-like quality
or my dry skin! LOL!
got it on the dry skin, thanks Une
:-D
ok, just found ro8 -- guess a lot of words have that same ending?
thanks again, that gave me my first 8

yw
hi again, all! breakfast time!
morning sue
hi, wv!
major rain here - Galena (northwest corner of the state) got 13.45" last night!!
wow
yesterday was probably the nicest day of the summer so far - this morning it is overcast - but no rain yet
we didn't get anywhere near that much but it is very wet
that's a lot of rain
rained here yesterday too but then got very hot and humid in the afternoon; today's forecast is about the same
I wonder if they saw animals walking in pairs uu?
Hi.
hi herin
hi, herin!
HOwdy, I was waiting for news before I went to bed
and I don't know about the animals but they have closed their flood gates (installed after a flood devastated the town many years ago)
so what's the news, herin?
that is a heck of a lot of rain
So does that mean ducks are happy Sue?
http://tinyurl.com/3f57t82 - local story about the rain
and I think the ducks may have been washed into the Mississippi river
News is someone that was in the Goth Music community passed away just a while ago from cancer. He would ahve been around 40 ish
oh, herin, that is so sad!
He fought the good fight.
Chicago has flooded again as well; this is now officially the wettest July on record (and we didn't have any rain at all this month until about a week ago!)
Good grief! Can y'all see the steam coming out of my ears right now?!?!?
Herin, sorry to hear about your sad news.
Sorry to hear that Herin.
*Ducks and hides from Car*
Thanks and sorry you are sick
The incompetence cotinues Molly...Just had my appointment at my primary care doctor's office. Turns out, my CT scan showed a major sinus infection...that the hospital NEVER mentioned to me! This whole episode may have been caused by that and they should have started me on antibiotics!!! GRRRRRRR.
Car I can join you in the gross head department. There is ice cream on offer as most other foods taste like crap
Time for one of those seething letters to the president of the hospital. Trust me, they work wonders.
I have now shelled out $100 for the hospital visit, $100 in co-pays to other doctors and am looking at about the same at the pharmacy!!!!
Oh Herin! I am sorry about that. The nurse practitioner I saw just recommended lots of steamy hot liquids.
Use the word "negligence" a lot in your letter. That seems to promote offers of taking care of anything your insurance won't cover.
hello hello
Use the words ''An imbecile let alone a trained tec can read a CT scan''
My mom, when she was practicing, was on staff at that hospital. She will help me compose a letter this week.
Hello Ruby!
And have your primary care doctor write one too.
Can't do that. I have never seen my primary care doctor.
Hi Ruby
I thought that is who you just had an appointment with.
Nurse practioner in the same practice.
car not to make like of youra situation which stinks but where I live any report is sent to the primary doctor not to the patient
You mean the CT? Even if I was an in-patient at the time in the hospital?
we are having a big storm, too, but it's beautiful and green after our long winter and spring drought
and the roses!
If the nurse practioner explains the situation to the doctor, I would imagine he would be willing to write a letter. It's worth a try.
Nice Ruby!
oh, did not realize you were an in patient. if so someone should have let you know before you were discharged
car, that is awful (and ridiculous!)
<---- Loves roses
No they did not.
and hi to molly, peri, and ruby!
hi all
this is the second blossoming; the one bit of gardening I do regularly (sort of) is deadhead the roses to keep them flowering
(I once had an MRI that was misread that left me in pain for a year and not knowing why, and came close to leaving me paralyzed)
{{sue}} and peri and molly and car. that is rotten luck with the doctors, car!
Good grief Sue!?!?!?!
These kind of stories are why I have very little faith in doctors and health care people.
I get very frustrated by negligence...especially when it is so easily avoidable.
when my husband had his heart attack, he had seen his doctor that day! then had the heart attack in the middle of the night and the doctor had said he was doing just fine!
we need to become our own patient advocates and ask for results rather than assume things are ok if we do not hear anything. Otherwise situations like yours happens, car. so sorry
good morning everyone
I just asked them to draw a TSH for that very reason Peri.
hi, flosey1
hello flosey!
good for your car
flosey!
wehat is a TSH tho?
have been reading a bit here, you can ask for a copy of any testing that is done - you paid for it
catnip is a sweet phantom
Hello Flosey!
Why do you think it's a thyroid problem?
indeed, car you can ask for a copy of any results.
The classic I love from a friend 's partner the hospital saying "O you can't have codein it will make him sick'' No it will kill him. They are so stupid that he has a big sticker on his file too boot
It is the one test I know they didn't run. I have heard of other women who have had depression issues / headaches / etc and found out they had thyroid issues. Just checking.
It is the one test I know they didn't run. I have heard of other women who have had depression issues / headaches / etc and found out they had thyroid issues. Just checking.
Hi all. How many words are there today please
290
290
Hi Sandra! Hi WV!
Well, it's a good thing to check. I had no symptoms at all and it was discovered that I have thyroid issues. I take medicine for it now.
hello sandra
Might we add I think this certain hospital has too many patients and not enough staff and feral patients at that
Hi all!
Hi Science!
Hi Over lass
clue for the last S in the bottom row plz for nbt.

super clue
xx molly!
Glad to help Flosey. I always have to wonder about that one for a while. Even though it's in a lot of grids.
These S words are sending me nuts
LB blessings
I helped my friend get her dad into a home this week....not fun
3 words for poop and their plurals in this grid!
and the scariest thing was that I saw a woman there that I used to teach with. She has alcoholic dementia
Oh Science...how sad : (
yes and frightening.
that is terrible, science!
That's sad Science. Alcoholism is an ugly disease.
it is and runs in my family
Be back in a bit.
My birth father died before 40 because of alcohol and drugs. Mostly booze.
wow underlass....alcohol poisoning?
half, phew! must cook dinner. see you later
No idea this is what I was told. Don't really know because he was a ding dong ditcher
Russell Brand (a recovering addict) wrote a very good piece on what it's like to be a friend/loved one of an addict in response to the death of Amy Winehouse.
same with my dad's father -- died when my dad was only 10 -- left him to "take care of his mother" -- jeez
I am adopted so i have no idea what his story is.
Une those dang pups are too cute.
Later Ruby
i know! LOL
Saturday morning I'm transporting 3 boxer/pittie mix pups in the morning and Brittany spaniel in the afternoon -- will have more pix! :-)
hi and bye, ruby
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I love pitties. They are banned here :(
they're great dogs and so misunderstood -- lots of landlords here won't rent to pittie owners :-(
The issue here is the amount of attacks. More like moron owners that need to be PTS rather than the dog
oh, I agree completely -- it's totally the owners who treat them badly and/or raise them to fight :-(
My mum doesn't like me going to my friends house who has 3 big dogs. I told her I respect them they are well trained and if I got bit it would have to do with me being stupid not the dog
look what happened to my husband last year, and he's been around dogs all his life. Just a stupid owner who coldn't control his own dog
Exactly Ruby
*poof*
<<<<<<<<<< "Passion" -- a pittie rescue I helped transport recently -- soooooooooo sweet!!
Une did you see sweet Patrick?
don't remember -- refresh my memory . . .
Patrick the little abused pitty?
no, sorry, herin, don't remember -- was that recent
The Patrick Miracle.
ooooohhhhh, yes!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi everyone. Nice out today
Hi Bichon.
Is it cold in Austrailia, midwinter
hey, bichon :-) (98 and humid here!)
Tell you what I wouldn't donate to the AHS after that rudeness
It's going to be 86 in CT, but not as bad as last week. Less humidity and lower temps. Just came back from a trek with the fluffs
gotta run for now -- good to see everyone -- byeee *poof*
bye Une
By Une.
hi Bichon
herin, how cold is it in Aus. I wish it were winter here
I don't bichon I don't like humidity but will take summer over winter any day
I hate the humidity. I came back from my walk with the pooches [about 2 miles] soak wet. They were panting heavily

Peri, if you are still here .... another 8 ca 8/50 what is on top of girls beds to make it frilly looking
does anyone have a clue for oi6 and 7 please?
hi Flosey, I do not but I will help you look
... a container for petroleum products
thanks dose
hello doseffing and thank you
be back in a bit .... lunch time
... morning ... except it's time for lunch ...
many years ago I lived in the Highland Creek Valley, dose, I believe the entire area is now a park? They were all frame homes and most washed away with Hurricane Hazel (we had long since moved to North York)
... Highland Creek ... is that Rouge or Humber Valley ... I know the name ... it's just blank as to which end of the city it is
Rouge is out further East, Humber is West of Toronto
... not anymore
Humber Valley took quite a beating with that hurricane
... so did the Rouge ... there is still one of the old emergency bridges over the Rouge up north of the zoo ...
Rouge would be west of you
... Humber Valley is now not quite mid-town
... when did you leave Hogtown? ...
ah, my girlfriend and I use to go biking out through Highland Creek and Rouge area
... well ... it's houses now ... all the way out to Courtice on the east side of Oshawa ...
moved to BC after marriage, then back to Aurora in 1966 for 30 years, hubby taught at Northview Secondary and Georges Vanier SS
yes, and as far north as well
... is that the Georges Vanier on Don Mills road?
yes, in the 'peanut'
... yeah ... I went to Don Mills CI ... Vanier was always the newbies for us ... but that was ... arrrggg... 45 years ago ...
... even since 1996 it has changed ... particularly north ... ... it's people all they up to Elgin Mills ... Markham (or York Region) has a million people in it ...
... Aurora now counts as the north end of the city ... ...
... it's nicer on Salt Spring
good lord! just monkied ca 7 and 8= a hag or witch
Brother drove me around the area last year when we visited an old friend in Aurora - seems it's solid way up to Barrie
have you been out here dose? yes, it is beautiful
... 6.5 million people in the GTA ... fourth largest in North America
wtg crossy
crossy is just north of barrie one hour
... my brother in law lives in Mill Bay ... ... we probably fished right past your front door a few summers ago ...
hubby was born/raised on Salt Spring Island
left to go to U and only visited during summers until we moved here in 95
... his wife is a Victorian ... he talked her into moving here because of the job opportunities ... ... no mountains here ... she hated it ... so he's a lineman for BC Hydro again
... he probably got you your power back last winter after a snowstorm
lol@ victorian..for a second there i though she was into 1880,s dresses...lol
then it clicked
ah, well thanks brother-in-law
we do lose power here in bad storms, high winds - we have a generator in case of lengthy outages but have never had to us it for that purpose
wow, lice isn't a word??????
... do you get the ferry from Duncan or does it go over to the airport side?
we get the Swartz Bay ferry to Fulford Harbour - we're just up the road a couple of miles
lice is a word, but it isn't in the grid
otherwise, if going up north Van. Island, we'd get the ferry over to Crofton (which takes you into Duncan)
phantom, huh
... of course ... now I remember
We have 3 ferry docks, Long Harbour ferry to the mainland if going to Vancouver
... does that go in Twassen or up to North Van? ... just thinking of the next visit to Mill Bay for two summers from now ...
goes to Tswassen - can never get that spelling right
... I like the ferry ride from Twassen to Schwartz BAy ... but I dislike doing the same thing every time
... yeah I forgot that other 's' again
Hello :)
the Nanaimo ferry goes over to Horseshoe Bay, you'd drive in to West and North Van
daughter lives in North Van, other one lives in Van.
we took a ferry north out of Horseshoe Bay, scenery is beautiful up that way
... but if I got to Nanaimo first ... I'd turn north and go up to the other end of the island because i've never been there ... and then everyone would be yelling at me for not going where I was supposed to go ...
Hello Sadie
lol, there's a lot to see out here, did you go to Tofino?
... honeymoon on the beach
hello flosey
Tofino is crowded in Summer but I love it in Fall, high winds and wild waves crashing
lovely honeymoon area dose
hi again, all, still raining here...
just gor Boston Market for lunch...wow their food is delish! I never had them before
we have finally gotten to see some sun this week and temps are even comfortable
... we went there the last week before the season opened ... was about half price for everything ... and no people ... gonna be lante April ... ...
... that was 24 years ago
... the sun ... mountains ... forests ... and the ocean ... what more could you ask for!
absolutely gorgeous!
i wanted to go to the beach today with the boys...but alas, even though it is 91 degrees outside, it is raining :(
Hope you don't get our storms, Lisa, they were intense and very wet!
must be quite humid Lisa
We need storms, it way arid here
extremely humid...where are you at sue?
Im near cleveland ohio
60 miles west of Chicago
we probably are going toget your showers :(
we had horrible rains last weekend. Very hot and then showers with major flooding. I had my 15 year old, with brand new temps, driving to practice when that storm hit. Needless to say, it was not good. I had to have him stop the car and turn over the keys
hi, all. I'm struggling with re7/28 and re8/40. clues, please?
no match found. got them both
re + what you write on with chalk
can you share Angel
We had those too, Lisa - it is officially our wettest July on record now, even though we had no rain all month until a week ago
reblackboard?
I understand your fear lisa for a new driver but they have to learn sometime.....when my 30 year old was learning to drive we got hit by a rare huge snowstorm and I made her drive she has thanked me ever since
residewalk?
yes, another word for it
ah.
thx.
huh?
ha ha, yeah here too. It has been the hottest july in half a century and definetly the wettest as well. How does that work???
warmer air can hold more water.
I don't understand the sidewalk thing?
taht is true...its holding gallons up there in those clouds...
bichon or a new sl5 of officers
old word for chalkboard
ty mcurl
yw
norse is not in the puzzle??
bichon, that was me guessing what one might write on with chalk. You can safely ignore the sidewalk. :-)
what do you call a red head swede?...a norse of a different colour!...hyuck!,,hyuck!
No problemo sue
and Norse is a proper noun; Enable doesn't allow those (except when it does)
and hi, crossy!!
howdy sue:))
I'm not sure that chalkboards as we think of them (in the classroom) were ever referred to as sl5s. I think the term refers more to a hand-held tablet sort of thing. Hence the phrase, to wipe the sl5 clean. : D
it was handheld, but a mini chalkboard
I knew a lady who taught like a hundred years ago and she called them all slates; it was hard to remember what she was talking about sometimes for the youngsters in the crowd!
our house in Westford had a slate and copper roof..didn't need any repairs for 100 years..and then $$$$$
hi all
hi west

awhile ago someone mentioned an ro8 that is a type of iris..can anyone clue it please?
No clue. The ro8 I have is not an iris.
maybe I read it wrong thanks molly
west I have an ro 8 but don't think it has to do with irises. ro** what kids jump with but exchange the last vowel for another and end with sea monster
It's an extension of what you tie someone up in. And no, you didn't read it wrong. I saw someone clue it as a flower this morning.
If anybody's still looking for left-side a words - there's one that a measure of land

Re37???? YIKES! : D
put tiles on my roof again sammy
re7/28
And how bad would it suck if a 37 letter word was only worth 28 points? : P
if i had the re 7/28.........................
... the score would probably be as a result of a penalty for using a Welsh town name with triple l's and triples g's in it ...
check out my clue at 11:59 sammy
79 s words in one puzzle??? wow...
re + sl5/10 the plural ... ... ... to start again is to wipe the xxxxx clean

yw sammy
everyone has rain and we had sprinklers put in the back yard yesterday
getting new plantings and a new lawn it will be a godsend
76 s words = I will not finish this grid. It just gets too boring trying to pound out that many that start with one letter.
but the 76 eses all begin with an s ... what more can you ask for in fun grids like this ones
well if its any consolence...ours isn't rain, its hell...extreme downpours with lots of damaging winds, homes flooded, then back to 90 degree weather
well said bab and hello
hi there BR, nice to see you
Hello, folks
sorry lisa..but whatever you have we'll be getting
at least we have a rain gauge now so the sprinklers won't come on when it's pouring
did you get it last weekend? cuz it did the same thing last weekend. We were WANTING rain lol...well we got it! Lots of people were out of power too, and with the humidity it was hrorible
that is sweet westford! a rain gauge...like it alot
I thought the grid was fun ... I only had trouble with the words I had trouble finding
we got a bit not so much as predicted though
i almost spit out my lunch reading your statement babble rabble
now i am making it my mission to find all the s words, even if i do not finish:)
i wanted to take the boys to the beach today, but its saying storms all afternoon
its not raining this minute, but one step outside brings on a downpour of sweat lol
you don't want to be near water then
read your statement babble.that is already happening, the middle cass is fading to be replaced my the ultra rich and the very poor..fun eh?
class
I always try to find the words I can't find first so I do not have to bother with them later
exactly...well for one, storms here kick up nasty sandstorms on teh beach, and the humidity will kill me
;)
not liking the ca words
how many are there peri?
sorry
29 ca words
thanks peri
between c words and s words, those two alone equal over 100 words!
40 c words but 29 of them are ca
funny lisa love when that happens
72 left, going to read for a while. I am reading Marker by Rboin Cook. I love medical hrillers. bbl
it happens to me daily lol...stupid keyboard
I have 13..ca guess I'll keep looking
Robin even
i think the kids spilled something on it or something, because every now and then it sticks
bye peri enjoy
bye peri
i tried my wife on a robin cook tale..she did not like it as she seems to dance around the blatantly obvios for most of the book...but i have yet to try one of her books
usually when I just hit return I get an error message - you must be pretty special, lisa :-)
lisa the very best one was when Dorens left her house and left her computer on..went on for about 45 minutes
Robin is a guy crossy
whatever..
holy cow...well i dont feel so badly then...
lol
i get an error message too, over and over and over, as the blank messages keep getting sent lol
keeps us on our toes
I agree crossy Coma wasn't bad
but i will still try one as i used to like aurtur hailys med thrillers
I loved his Hotel
My error messages say: User error. Repeat offender.
i have a first ed of his book airport..love that one
and i know the hotel book..it rocked
that was a good one..
wow crossy first edition
yes..but far from pristine i am afraid
ex-library copy, old tape stains and no dust jacket
that's a shame..still it is a first edition
why oh why, every time i find a collectable book ,it looks like someone was on speed while stamping the endpapers?
has that wonderful "old book smell"\
I know what you mean
on a side note, did you know you can buy a spray cleaner for your e-book reader that give it the old book smell?
no way lol
indeed you can:)
oh I don't doubt it
my cursor does not return to the blank wword box after putting a word in, it used to, i got a new computer but smae barnd. any ideas
have you tried shutting down and restarting magz?
yes
what is smea barnd? you celtic magzel? :)))
that sounds frustrating
do you hit return, mag, or click the "add" box?
mine returns to the box if I hit return but not if I click the box
always use return
same brand ofcomputer as i had before
i tried all of that stuff but no luck
is return the same as enter
yes, mag
163 lelft to go, but i am taking a break
me too down to 90 now but things to do
bye lisa and all
*poof*
thanks anyway
I've seen the "new book smell" spray. Must have missed the "old book smell" version. Seems like kind of a lame idea to me.
Hello, could I have the stats for the fourth column I, please?
in 5/10
in 5/10 Jellen
Thanks, I'll start looking...
Ah, thanks! nbt now
yay, jellen!
In 1442, “I will never get used to a book. It doesn’t feel right. I just love the experience of unrolling a scroll and the beauty of hand-written words.†Johannes Gutenberg invented movable type and the mechanical printing press in 1439.... many ideas are lame..at the time.take care all and happy babbling! poink!
bye, crossy!
Interesting comparison. Adjusting from hand written parchment to printed books vs. book smell in a can.
It's funny too. Every time I voice the opinion that I prefer books to an e-reader, many e-reader owners get all defensive, like I've said a dirty word or something.
... everything was new once ... I believe it was the town and university of Pisa in the mid 1400s passed a law saying that the university would have no dealings with people using the new Arabic digits ... they are heathen creations and too prone to error and fruadulent erasure ... Roman numerals are perfectly fine
need ca 7/36 clue please
... sounds like a body ... or like a shoulder purse for carrying an automobile
ty!
See, there you go. I don't have anything against e-readers. I don't think they are "heathen creations". I just prefer books.
... yeah ... it's neat to be able to carry an entire library around with you ... ... but the one I've got is an inexpensive one (not an iPad) ... too many mechanical buttons and switches which are going to wear out ... and you can't turn flip through a book easily to find a favourite passage ... and ...
I have a cheap one too, dos, it is nice for airplane travel when I don't want to carry a pile of books
la 5/20?????
plastic gloves, science
nevermind I found it and ty sue
yw - that gave it to me, actually :-)
difficult grid today
... exactly ... ... but I'd jump for joy if I could talk the principal into getting me a class set of iPads with a couple of Mathematics apps on them so we could graph functions and do the transformations without using paper and pencil ... ... a smart board is nice with me doing it for everyone ... but the iPad set would be better ...
yes, I have 112 words and the last ones have not been coming easily
ooh, that would be nice, dos!
... ya got $24,000? ... I priced it last week ... ... isn't gonna happen in my lifetime ..
no, and I can't really require my students to buy them either, for the same reason
I even run into trouble with students not buying books, and I am thinking of using an online homework system that will cost the students $29 - I'm betting some of them won't get that either
can you write a grant to Apple?
... no ... we still use a class set of TI84 Graphing calculators ... $120 a piece ... ...
... I could ... but it's me an 15 other high schools in Durham region and 2200 more high schools in Canada and 22000 schools in the States who want the same grant ..
A friend and I were discussing a "school with no books" when Cushing Academy tore down it's library in favor of all digital borrowing. It would seem strange to see students milling around a campus with nothing but a digital device. Kind of Orwellian.
I know i have same issue
... they earn Steve Jobs pension and medical payments by selling these things
we use a system called PLATO (all computer based), but I don't like the darn thing. The kids don't really learn anything
... yeah ... it's like watching TV ... you stare at the screen and the flashing light turns the brain off
most schools use it for credit recovery; our program uses it for original credit. I think it sucks. Don't think teachers actually wrote the curriculum!
our library got rid of about 24000 volumes a couple of years ago - the faculty had a fit - they are still available digitally but it is not the same thing. The math department talked the provost into funding the return of the math journals that they had gotten rid of (paid for shipping)
... we're having the start of a big political municipal budget fight over the funding of libraries now ...
math and science should not be totally computer based. need that kinetic pen and paper thing in order to learn the techniques
the dean of the library said something about how the library wasn't supposed to be a repository for things that didn't circulate, which I found rather odd (this is a university library)
Oh I SO agree about the kinetic learning of math and science. I am a person who REALLY needs that.
we have huge issues with the budget. I am supposed to write some new science curriculum this year, but I know they won't buy me any books!
very hard to do symbols and equations without pen and paper, especially as they get more complicated
try doing chemistry and physics problems without writing anything down!
... new mayor of Toronto (almost a Canadian Tea Partyer) wants to slash library offices and close a few ... ... people rising up ... particularly elderly groups and associations of the poor because of the potential disapperance of computer availabiltiy
my hisband has a masters in chem eng and he always uses paper
oops husband
and the pb for me
And to steer away from science and math...the handwritten word is so much more personal than the computer generated one. A love letter just doesn't cut it in email. : )
tough word to avoid using, science :-)
i have to go the the "retirement" home today with my friend to see her dad.
... I quite agree ... but I did some checking around the high school libraries here ... typically ... for the past school year ... ... there were four or five books checked out of the library in the past school year
that is because no one reads anymore
... which begs the question ... "why keep the library?" ... it's gonna be a hard fight this time ... in ten years ... we'll lose
I am dreading school starting.....
we are raising idiots
... we have "streamed" a lot of subjects ... there's a college stream and a university stream depending on your post-secondary aspirations ...
there is some great psychology curriculum online from Shippensberg in PA. I use a lot of the materials in my elective class
Sadder still, parents don't read to their kids anymore. I have a friend who teaches pre-school. She asked a Mother if she read to her child. The answer was "Oh no, I don't have time for that. He gets that in school."
I also use some chemistry and physics from Georgia Public Broadcasting - the best stuff out there for those subjects
... I did a week in a Grade 12 College math class last year ... ... it was grade 12 (high school seniors) ... Monday it was area of a rectangle ... Tuesday was area of composite rectangular shapes ... Wednesday was circles ... Thursday was surface area ... Friday was Volume ... ... nothing I hadn't done by Grade 6
I read to both of my children and the survivingone reads a lot
pi 6 please
nm found it
That was a gift you gave to your children Science.
agree with that dos
spitoon!
... my impression of the difference between kids rated as "gifted" and others is ... the parents read to them before kindergarten started and had persuaded them to start to read on their own ...
agree with that
... must stop ... the rant is building ... must save it for the parents
i work with low income students such a struggle to get them to do anything. they are very spoiled even though they are poor. they want instant gratification
... exactly ... if it takes more than 10 seconds it doesn't happen
did you read about the discipline problem in school in texas? they are blaming the teachers
ti
whitmire from texas - idiot - right up there with our hairdo gov
hey, blame everything on the teachers, why not?
hi inge
... same here ... same everywhere ...
hi dorens. i know everything is my fault. this may be the last year for me
well my illustrious governor knows SO much about education, he was at an educational conference on Monday, talking about how wrong it is for us to blame the parents.
lmao dorens
i'd like to see him spend a month or two at an inner city school and then say that again
it is my fault that these kids end up in prison too!
... blame it on the Canadians ... it must be our fault ... or maybe the Arabs ... or the Mexicans ... ... never look in a mirror
bbl off the the altzheimers unit!
oh yes lets blame the mexicans! texans would like that
... by the way ... the pi6 is mexican ... ... think smashing something at a birthday party
later then, science
Never seen the pi6 spelled that way before
hey all
didn't know there was a pi 6.. will look. Hi Stid
oh. yes, i've seen that before... it isn't the mexican party thing, i don't think
... oh it's not really the mexican thing ... it just sounds ike it for spelling purposes ... checked the dictionary ... its place for growing certain coniferous trees
*refers back in chog* WHY must we "blame" anyone? why can't we just start supporting folks? The parents who are working extra jobs to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table who simply don't have time, energy or money to support school instruction with sports or tutors... the teachers who are working in overcrowded classrooms with out of date materials... the schools that are in impoverished areas where bake sales are held for maintenance rather than field trips. *sigh*
Thanks, stidmama!
oh, and we're not allowed to have bake sales, either. and yes, it isn't about blame, it's about finding solutions, but when the solutions involve giving children better opportunities than they get at home. it becomes an "infringement" of democratic principals.
... quite right ... but when the parent tells me that it's my fault that his kid isn't being raised right ... if I want to help the kid I must ask the parent to think about the kid
I've long thought that one answer would be to create group homes for mothers who need a little help, and they would have "master mothers" to model the appropriate parenting techniques... eat dinner together and show them how... manners, conversation, etc.
kind of like a kibbutz or commune. sort of radical
That is an awesome idea Dorens. Kind of like taking the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program one step further.
Interesting idea, Doren. But, boy, would it be hard to match up groups of like-minded folks. I wouldn't want to be in charge of that! lol
problem is, it's too "outside the box" Whose responsibility would it be? Not the schools, and which bureaucracy would we trust?
and we can't mandate it, and the ones who need it most wouldn't want to do it
... my problem is no one can agree on proper behaviour anymore ... do we eat dinner together? ... but that means the employer must allow the parent to leave work ... ...
there are a lot of problems. but instead of looking at the real problems and trying to find reasonable solutions, they just want to look at test scores and bame the teacher
Dorens, perhaps divorced mothers with custody of their children could form group homes. I like the super mom idea.
... a couple of years ago 60% of high school students around here had jobs in retail ... ... these are full time employees as far as the store is concerned ... ... damned if I'll let my employees stay home from work so they can eat with family
Making people leave their homes and communities doesn't sound right to me. Perhaps support from within the community -- a babysitting service for parents who have to work late, mentors who check in regularly with parents to visit and give them ideas/a break (parenting young children can be so isolating), making sure that healthy food options are affordable....
there are plenty of retired women out there who did a better job. and I know I personally can think of things i wish I'd done differently... would be great if they could learn from our mistakes as well
True, doseffing. There are lots of elements of society that don't seem to support healthy families. We definitely feel like we need to make tough choices. But that's always been the case, just with different choices.
... people are no longer allowed to make mistakes ... which is why no one will do anything ...
lol - we may not be "allowed" to make mistakes, but somehow we all seem to manage to make them just the same!
i'm thinking we need to teach the mothers, and visitors who come in and show them things, but they need constant modeling. also, I have a problem with people who can't take care of their own kids, and then go on to have 5 or 6... and we have a self-perpetuating mess
i work with kids whose parents make a whole lot of mistakes, some that are so damaging to the kids, and they sure are allowed to make them
... yes and yes ... ... but who is going to teach the males ... the fathers ... ... major pet peeve ... ... there is no longer a male image to follow or pattern after ... ... thus the boys often ... do nothing, want nothing, hope for nothing ... and have no idea that there is a future to think about
that's absolutely true dos.... need a few male figures in there as well... but I was concentrating on the many families that are headed by single women who really just aren't doing the job at all.
the number of children is a different issue, and one that I am not willing to address. A bigger issue for me are the parents (who exist) who cannot or will not stay away from the drugs and other dangerous situations. The children in those homes are in danger and come to school so traumatized that just staying in their seats is a victory. The foster family system is broken and often the children have no where to go when there are no foster homes available. What do we do for those children?
... they're not mistakes ... unless someone points them out and persuades them that there is a better way ... a better choice ... right now the choice is "me right now" ...
I think good role models are hard to come by for all. (Which is why I write books about basically good people trying to do the right thing in tough situations. I don't think we can ever have too many examples of that to look at!)
oh! Vi! that reminds me -- stidkid #2 REALLY wants to complete his set. What can I do to get him an autographed set? *pleading mama look*
It would make such a great Yule present for him!
stidmama, I am, of course, be delighted and honored that stidkid still wants to finish them! If you want them autographed, then you can buy them from me. I think you have my e-mail, or can find it from my web site. Just let me know which ones you want.
okay! *shhhh -- it's a surprise* :-D
jumping in for a sec - there are agencies like described that mentor parents (i worked for one as a social worker) but it's a drop in the bucket, as you would guess **repoof*
(((Krista))) right -- so many support models are there, just too few for the need. *sad look*
Lots of good suggestions here. However, along with all those there would have to be a resurgence of common decency, manners and a "sense of community" all of which seem lost in today's world.
It does feel overwhelming, for sure. But there really is lots of good stuff happening, too.
as long as the money is more important than relationships (something our culture seems to encourage) then I think we will continue to have these problems, molly
Agreed Stid.
when I grow up, I shall insist on parents cussing only when necessary (as earlier this week when stidkid #1 was talking at the top of his voice while stidkid #2 was trying to sleep in the next room...)
In fact, I think one thing we've got going for us these days is that we actually see injustice. In the "good old days" most people were unaware of or didn't count injustices of race, sex, class, religion, and all the rest. People were courteous, but only within their own group. We need to get that common courtesy back, but then apply it to EVERYONE, no exceptions!
"courtesy" can also hide real feelings, I would be pleased as anything if folks just started helping each other and worked on getting along, regardless of the words they use
yes indeed, I agree, Vicuna, we need common courtesy back!!
Real courtesy is about being respectful and making other's feel values. I always tell my kids that it isn't enough to say "thank you" if you actually sound more dismissive than thankful!
and yes to stiddy too
*others feel valued, I mean
yes vi -- that is true ((hey peri!)) -- it's important that the words convey true respect for the persons involved
and never reply to a thank you with 'no problem' or something dismissive like that... one should use 'you are quite welcome, my pleasure, etc' that will make the person you've helped realize that they're not just someone on the street, even if they are...
yes amelu! :-D
Good point Amelu. One response I like to use when people compliment me on a meal is "I'm glad you enjoyed it."
need just the lowest S now for NBT!
Not daughter + vowel...plural
pl of a unit of sound measure
thanks Molly -- was monkeying all around that one
I did that this morning Stid. : )
I need only the i for nbt
the thrid row i
hey harry! how's the kiddos?
in + *** the table
making me crazy :)
ty molly
LOL harry -- I know the feeling.
nbt, though I still have 167 to go :)
They have to Harry. It's in The Kid Manifesto.
one had crazy asthma attack yesterday
so now she's on steroids and albuterol
I have 169. eating the candy necklace stidkid #2 got me a while ago -- not my favorite candy, but "sugar is sugar" and right now that's what is keeping me going.
Ouch, no fun, Harry.
oh gee harry -- I had that happen to me in June. No good. ((hugs to worried parent and uncomfortable kid))
well when we went to the pharmacy I got pringles too, so that's my vice today :)
mine was up every couple of hours coughing the asthma cough and throwing up on everything. ew.
I was on prednisone for 5 days and I am still getting my body back to normal!
oh gee girly
yuck
she's on oral prednisone and also inhaled steroids
but first he coughed so hard he peed on everything. 3 sets of sheets later...
rofl girly!
what fun
i am thinking of dragging out the old crib mattress for him tonight - at least its plastic!
luckily we know what to do by now, so I have some albuterol and prednisone always handy to start her off b4 going to the dr.
my kids didn't have asthma, but sometimes when they were sick I had to put them in the bathtub for a while as I washed the sheets
That's when I become a Bad Mother and feel as sorry for *myself* as for the poor kid!
hard for all involved vicuna!
we had some fabrics that were terrycloth on one side and plastic on the other to protect the bed when the kids were really little
there really should be a pinkish mineral called "rosite"
i layer a few folded beach towels under the sheets at all times - so far it has worked!
oh, that would be so pretty! I can see it now -- 8-sided crystals that catch the light "just so"
and a smelly mineral called nosite?
let's make one :)
aaaarrragggh, not liking the ca words, not liking them at all
and a _really_ smelly one called "pooite"
lol
roflmao! "pooite"
just monkeyed some the ca words and feeling a bit better
ha ha Harry
go peri-monkeys go!
Oops, must take clothes down from the clothesline so the kids can play in the sprinkler. Back later.
if a cockney makes a big deal of something, wouldn't it be a big "oopla?"
Back from the dentist...ugh...can I get a clue for ac 7 ?
later vi!
... high card + ra4/4
Vicuna made a boo boo. Hi. Op4

:-D
can I get a clue for the second pl 7.32 ?
STOP trying Clasp!
Hi Dorens!
annie, I don't even have ONE! LOL
sorry annie, not yet. I just went out to dump the some stuff in the compost pile, picked up a few weeds around there as I usually do, and am drenched. Didn't realize how humid it is out there
Your garden must be lovely, Dorens.
pl= the roller of a typewriter/ and plural
oh thanks, but the weeds are taking over a patch of pachysandra, due to blight i had last year... need to keep after them!
sammy, I have that one, I need the next pl7
yup. same here.
roller of a typewriter??
roller of a typewriter/???
a mine site or someone who mines it
snap! LOL
LOL!
i am so happy im not teh only one who had no clue
remember typewriters?
... many, many little pl 4/4s
lisa, start with what you eat off of and add a cons and plural it
yes, but not rollers
the first pl 7/32?
... first one is the typewriter roller
rhymes with la6/18 (the first)
bichon, it was just clued....anyone for the second pl7?
wow, thanks -- that's a new one for me
I knew what it was thanks to Mr. Doyle, my h.s. typing teacher. Poor man! That is about the only thing I learned as I could never type very fast.
I thought the typewriter thing was the seond one
wow...i would have never got that ...thank you
yes, do you have second pl7?
I got it. the second pl7--- dishes and throw a vowel in the middle
ah, second one is pl + vowel + men's neckwear
or what Annie said :-)
anyone have teh al6/7 combo?
thank you Annie
al6/7 mountain/plural
think Heidi's chalet
Lisa, the mountains in Swiss...
... think of the swiss mountains ... unless ruby is around ... and then their French mountains.
i dont know how i missed that! I had the mini version lol
I have reached halfway, need a rest
this grid could use an h

help on the es6/18 pls?
I'm still missing 20 P words, and I can't imagine what they might be
nm got it
.. es + to stitch + not out
ty dos...that's a weird word
... sounds legal but my dictionary is missing
ea 9?
... to be ahead of time ... ... but in the state of being by the lake of the Scottish monster
nice clue :)
... that's wierd ... let me know if you need better
i knew it had to do with the previous words, but I cant monkey the ending ~~
... a vowel plus the scottish loch
thank you :)
that got me the ro8 as well
i dont have teh ro 8
unfortunately, the state of being charlie brown's dog doesn't translate to an sp10
... you mean the tool used by little girls to jump over near a scottish loch
nm...i think i got it :)
sn10 rather
... it should
10???
... a pleasant joke for the day ... ... it's a tough grid
there is no 10, Lisa
sorry lisa
lmao...making fun of me?
Yes it should. Considering Lucy said: Charlie Brown, of all the Charlie Browns in the world, you are the Charlie Browniest.
:)
... my favourite is from Linus ... .. There is no heavier burden than a great potential ...
well...128 left and I think it's time to list
are tehre 2 ec words? I have one that means the sun going over the moon
Therefore, sn10 should be a word. So there.
ec5/12
sn10 means when you dance for your supper and quaff a root beer
... first ec word is ec 5/10 ... it's french
ec + not early, minus the last vowel
... while waiting for the Great Pumpkin
or the April Fool
got em :)
... good news
Thank God for Dolly Madison cakes, who brought us all the Charlie Brown specials when we were young.
... I still play the CD of the music from time to time
I directed "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown" once upon a time. Great show.
... went to far too many kid's dance competitions where somebody just had to do "My Philosophy"
My New Philosopy : )
Or philosophy

It beats the hell out of "You're Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile" which I could live the rest of my life happily if I never heard again.

the grands are funner that your own i think- hopefully you can love them and send then home
Okay, I've been lurking. Se/6: a Mexican gentleman with an added consonant, and it's something that feels motion or hears a noise and sets off an alarm.
ty Carol
that was the second se6 but I did not have that one either
I think our kids were funny, but we were so busy working and raising them that we didn't take the time to realize how funny they were.
yw ; )
Now with the grands all we have to do when they are around is watch and listen to them and laugh.
does anyone have the first se6 pls
se6 - last year of college
If anyone else has a clue for the first se 6/18 I could use it too!
ty Vicuna

hi again, all!
hi sue :-)
How are you, diane?
I'm good thanks... just made 16 jars of jam and enjoying a sit down/coffee break !
wow, that is a lot of jam! What kind?
Hubby picked them earlier today ... nothing fresher. ... raspberry
ooh, wonderful!
my raspberries are all gone :-(
*Packing bags and loaves of home made bread to go to Diane's again*
I am finally off to bed...and I finally finished! Good night everyone :-)
I usually make about 50 jars.... and share of course :-) have already done the rhubarb-cherry
yay, becky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!
night becky !
lol.... I was expecting a bunch of you to show up the other day Molly... but nobody came !
<--- Was there in spirit. : D
:-))
ar 6/21 ??
Summer is now OFFICIALLY here. We picked more than a cup of the native trailing blackberries, several blueberries, and EIGHT gooseberries from a bush I didn't know existed (must have been "planted" by a critter sometime in the last four years while I couldn't be in the garden).
*bounce bounce* I LOVE SUMMER!!!!!
oh yeah. hello! :-D
plural of ar 5/12
hi stid :-)
guess you can tell i am getting overheated
it's a type of palm sammysmom
hey diane!
oh! that ar always reminds me of the spanish word for "sand" or a sports complex
I love when stidkid#2 plays the guitar and sings... almost time to take him to his rehearsal. *sigh* by the time I get my old body moving the day is mostly over. Oh well...
I'll see you-all again soon! *poof*

can't sleep and looking for a few words. The nines totally elude me....any hints?
ea9- not late + famous monster
They both end like the Loch Monster. One is the state of being like a snake, the other is the state of being like what you tie someone up with.
Bag that, the ro one was an 8. Bea clued the other 9.
Ruby, I must have caught your insomnia. I hardly slept but a few hours last night.
thank you for the nine
I just took 2 xanax and ate 5 raw quail ages with lumpfish caviar; it will either put me to sleep or have me outside meowing at the sky
eggs*
nothing like phonetic spelling....
hi, ruby!
{{sue{{
I AM NEVER HUNGRY AT DINNER TIME, THEN WAIT TIL 11 AND FEEL SICK ALL NIGHT
whoops didn't mean to shout, sorry
I have trouble in the late afternoon, ruby, tend to snack a lot then (like now!!!)
I think the Caribbean music should be spellable with an i as an alternate
I am only hungry at breakfast and late at night
in fact I think I will have some soup.
lol - I tried that, ruby!
homemade?
I can also verify that catpiss is not a valid word, in case anyone was wondering.
liens
no, dried, part of my office stash.
tyvm ruby
sorry, are there more quail eggs in the PB? or even hot milk?
{{bichon}} how are you?
sure, I'll put some there, ruby (there were a couple of words in my last post as well)
Much better this week. Lat week it was over 100 here and humid
it's very cold but beautiful here, in between the rainstorms that s. My Ruby was so upset by the thunder that I had to give her a puppy tranqullizer
she was beside herself
fortunately, mine don't get frightened by storms. Just by other dogs
it had phobarbital, meprobromate and other stuff, but it settled her down. Does anybody remember puppy uppers and doggy downers on the old SNL?
phenobarbitol* I am typing in the dark
Sera doesn't like the thunder either but it just makes her bark (as do many things)
she's very calm around other dogs (and cats), it's just firecrackers and thunder that make her crazed
she only barks if somebody parks in our parking or comes to the gate
well, firecrackers are bad for them. But not terrible like other dogs
I worry because her heart pounds to strongly and she trembles all over
I swaddled her in a big towel and gave her the pill and she calmed down after a while. The vet recommended it, but it was creepy seeing her sort of collapse like that and she's a heavy dog, 75 lbs or so
They all have their little schticks
I'm afraid that I love this dog too much....
you can't love a dog too much.
she's 8 1/2 and I worry about her a lot
chows make it to around 10
Hopefully mine live a long Bichon life
her diet is wonderful; I cook the two dogs brown rice with cauliflower, chicken, beef hearts and chicken liver and season it with bouillon and parmesan
I think smaller dogs are good choices because of that, but, unfortunately, husband I both like the personalities of chows
and they are so beautiful
I do not cook for my dog. I do enough for them
Sera is a pretty big dog but she is a real sweetheart :-)
Do the French really cook for their dogs?
I spend too much time cooking for them and feeding them. No, the French don't but I'm a Jewish mother
we get her the real premium dog food (the kind you can't find in the regular stores, even the regular pet food stores)
the French give them table scraps and dried kibble
but I don' t cook for her, at least not on purpose (sometimes she gets something that has fallen on the floor :-)
I also put cauliflower in the rice
Well, me too ruby, but I prefer to use a nationally known name brand like Iams or Purina One.
the kibble the dogs eat is Purina One, costing 5 times as much as in Miami
it is actually cheaper to cook for them but it's still several $$ a day.
I buy their dog food at Costco or BJ's and it's cheaper
we've been getting Taste of the Wild, which is about twice as much as the national brands, but no filler so don't have to feed her as much
why do they put ash in dog food? Does anybody know?
even Purina
and corn seems to upset her tummy a bit so the more natural food seems better
I'll look on the web
Ruby also gets a cheese omelet in the morning
can't get fresh corn here anyway
http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/choosing -dog-food/dog-food-ash/
say what ruby. A cheese omelet.
I didn't find the snake clue
no ash in Taste of the Wild
human dinner time
one egg, emmenthal, parmesan and a little bit of bacon
maybe I'm entering my dotage....
obsessing about dog food
sc9 = having the quality of snake or fish skin
almost like the triangle
I had scalines
aaah, just got it and going to the PB, bad nell
good nite, friends
night, ruby!
when she was anxius before, I swaddled her, like I used to with my son when he was a baby, learnt from my Russian grandmother
ooh, I just got a bunch of words, maybe now i CAN SLEEP
hello everyone -- back for the last 100
good luck, ruby! (I am on sleeping pills now, they helped for about 10 days but aren't working so well now)
hi, nan!
what kind? my son takes lunesta which I think is the pill that made people sleepwalk, sleepcook, and, most frighteningly, sleep drive
actually I forget its name but that's not it
I take xanax at night to prevent middle-of-the night anxiety
temazepam
I'll look it up
I am also on lamotrigine, an antidepressant that is supposed to help with anxiety as well
side effects?
so far I am unimpressed but it's only been 2 weeks
not that I can tell, which is nice
sleepy stuff is also called restoril
I think antid's take 2 weeks to kick in. The last time I tried one, it had just kicked in and I immediately developed tardive diskynesthesia and had to taper right off
I've written down the names and will see if I can find French equivalents. My MD will prescribe absolutely anything I ASK FOR; SHE'S A TERRIBLE ENABLER lol
this one is supposedly faster acting than most
I am finally getting sleepy; it must be all those new meds! haha
I don't feel too depressed most of the time, but sleeping is still an issue
how many hours do you get/need?
great, ruby! at least my meds are helping somebody!
I ned 8
need*
I can usually get 3-4 hours, then I wake up and can't get back to sleep for another 2-3 hours. if I don't have to go to work I can go back to bed and get another hour or two but I can't always do that
I go to sleep ok, mostly, but just can't stay that way long enough
that wouldn't be enough for me; I'd be useless the next day
so you will sometimes see me on here when it is 4 or 5 am (babble time, which is my time too)
It must be the subject matter, I keep seeing opiate in the grid. Hi all
I can manage for a day or two but then I get pretty wrung out
that waking-up in the middle of the night (after 9/11) is why I went on Xanax in the first place
lol, mich!
hello michnick; you are up really late
Wow Sue, you must be dragging in the middle of the day. That is when a mostly sleepless night catches up with me.
I'm typically not anxious when I wake up, usually I just have to pee, but then I can't get back to sleep
You are right, ruby Time for bed.
I NEED A NAP FROM 3 TO 4pm BUT dh ALWAYS WAKES ME
of course, all the stuff going on with the kid (and my dad before that) hasn't exactly helped
naps are good, I am an excellent napper. hello all
sleeping problems here too
hi, peri!
Evil DH, he should not be waking our Ruby.
husband just puts his head down and is instantly asleep. Unfortunately, he gets up a 5AM
good night everybody and may we all have sweet dreams!
bye, ruby!
Sweet dreams to you too Ruby.
and I am going to head home, see you all later!
AND ENOUGH SLEEP!
Good night, pray we all sleep well!!

Sleep deprivation will do that to you Sue. This is the first day in a long time I've been feeling those effects. I feel like I'm looking at the world through gauze.
Walk The **** was a great movie. I was so impressed at both the lead performances.

Isn't that the same thing in the UK?
yes
what is a bank holiday molly
okay i quit with 6 see you all later
really science? okay bye!
Water, water everywhere: http://tinyurl.com/3vhlemp
What Does Bank Holiday Mean? Any business day during which commercial banks and savings & loans institutions are closed for business to the public, specifically at physical locations. These holidays usually coincide with federal holidays in the United States, but each country defines is own bank holidays. Infrequently, a bank holiday can also refer to a day where there is an emergency bank closure to avert a bank run. This type of bank holiday occurred as a result of the Emergency Banking Act of 1933 during the Great Depression in the United States.
Apparently bank holidays (days when banks are closed) are the same as legal holiday (what we in the US think of) in the UK
oh okay i was left with the impression they are different
Her in the good old USA, most of our legal holidays are also bank holidays.
ty for the video BR I will have to finish it later
Are you still on the road JMC?

Take my hand I'm a stranger in paradise All lost in a wonderland A stranger in paradise If I stand starry-eyed That's the danger in paradise For mortals who stand beside an angel like you I saw your face ascending Out of the common place and into the rare Now somewhere out in space I hang suspended Until I'm certain that there's a chance that you care Won't you answer this fervent prayer Of a stranger in paradise Don't send me in dark despair From all that I hunger for But open your angel's arms To this stranger in paradise And tell him that he need be A stranger no more

hi bubba
ah, we are being serenaded :)
Many original artists don't get credit for their work because a cover version is more widely popular. It happens.

I am easily confused. I thought "Frostburg about as west as you can get and still be in Maryland" meant that Deep Creek was not. In Western Maryland that is.
sounds nice. i am hearing rumors the radio station will go to london next year, i would jion them
haha no i just meant i was going really far west

Hi Jes :0)
bubba, what do you think of medical schools giving a series of interviews to applicants to determine their communication and teamwork skills?
they don't do that already, bab? (well, communication anyway, how does an interview determine teamwork skills?)
ty. a clue for the next one pls?
probably more important than their grades, anyone can get good grade, but good communication is a real skill.
Good question Jes. I don't think an interview CAN determine teamwork skills.
and doctors are known for their communication skills
depends on the doc
had to do about 3 interviews as part of the acceptance process for veterinary college, and a bunch of mock appointments during senior year as part of the curriculum. do they not do the same in md?
... ca624 ... same start ... but ... plural of frozen water less the initial i
When interviewing potential residents , I prefer social interviews rather than acaemic ones. If they know everything you have nothing to teach them, but if you cn work with them, then yuou have a good potential resident.
not sure it worked, really... there are a lot of vets out there with sh***y communication skills...
Agreed Shirl. I have experienced plenty of doctors who have very bad communication skills.
people skills: http://tinyurl.com/3dag4h6
lots of docs who end up in research so don't interact with patients or not as much
People can talk a good schtick, but their teamwork skills only present in an atmosphere in which they are working with a team.

Dedicated Denial of Service Attacks, agents of, it is believed, the Russian government, are flooding the servers in an effort to curtail free speech.

that means that your server cannot find the website, an try again in a few
Either that or your furniture needs refinishing :-)
So my connection isn't talking to theirs? I thought that was a 403 error
you'll get intermittent 503, 400, and 504 errors due to these attacks, and some pages may not load, and what does load will load slowly sometimes
