oh good, dc -- glad to help!
hi neil, you too.
are you back home?
well, that's true, west
hi dart !!
Who, me?
No, still in LA.
yes.
westford, I sent you a Flickr invitation.
our daughter in Encinitas called from her land line at work..said they have no power or cell service
That will enable you to see everything there, not just the 30-something photos that are public... the rest are viewable by family and friends only.
yes, 1.4 million in the dark in SoCal
Yes, a lot of people have been without power.
I did get it neil..I need some time to get things together
west -- i was just reading an article about that outage in california, arizona and mexico.. alot of my FB friends are pissed about it
Oh, ok.
hi cos didn't realize it was so widespread
floods here are gradually receding -- we got most of 7 inches of rain in 8 hours
this rain has been ridiculous.
hi seain
schools are closed tomorrow, os we won't know til morning what things are like. still better here than in NY/PA at least
hi, west
5 million without power
cousin
total in both countries, cos?
article http://tinyurl.com/3t98f74
from what i read yes seain
( hit return )..cousin's son is getting married today
what has caused that CA outage?
good night everyone -- last half for tomorrow if I have time :)
g'night nan
hello and good-bye nan
G'night, nan
The outage was probably caused by an employee removing a piece of monitoring equipment that was causing problems at a power substation in southwest Arizona, officials said.
so not at all weather related?
i dont think so.
hi jellen
Hi, west...a little dozy here...
nice and peaceful?
Yes...think I'll head upstairs...might be back...
see you then
I see sprite's pup made it again

Hi ruru!

yw westford.

the al is a bull fighter?
not great DC
ruru, that's what I put in my profile -- didn't you look?
hm. should i do mine up for that i wonder...
it says co 7/32 jilli
hi ru
Because my hair goes crazy if I let it grow in past a very short buzz cut, and I have an old photo with basically what amounts to a mini-afro on my head.
sorry to hear that, ru, i do hope it looks up in the forseeable future
Oh ruru. :(
What's being done about it?
nothing right now..I'm working on it.
old oa5 bucket
I have decided on surgery.. where is now the question
Clues are up
oh, sorry, I see that and have now corrected it.
yeah.. thanks lickety.. I need them tonight
thank you lickety
and ty seain..singing now
I would too in your situation ruru. You can't go on in that agony.
Ah, ty ty ty Lickety -- we'll really need you for this biggie
lol jill.. you sent a lot of poor babblers on a wild goose chase
Thank you, Lickety!!!
yeah neil.. I agree.. the pain has gotten worse
oh no, ruru!
I'm sorry you have to suffer that ru. Surgery really is the only solution.
I have an event tomorrow I have to stand up for hours at as well. not going to be pretty
I wouldn't, ruru. Health comes first.
It's only going to make matters worse and you're going to be in even more pain.
Is it something you absolutely must attend?
ruru - my mom had hip replacement at age 86 and was terrified - day after surgery physio came in to get her up - she stood up and her face lit up in delight - she said this is like magic - the pain is gone. She said the post operative pain was mere discomfort in relation to the pain she had been in - hope this helps -
yes.. unfortunately
Don't try to be a hero, ruru!
I've heard that about knee replacements too ursh.
thanks ursh.. I hope that's how it goes for me.
Can you not sit?
Amen to that, ruru.
i have a friend who has had two hips and a knee replaced, and has been thrilled with each much as ursh's mom has
yes, what about sitting?
Someone is going to have to do the grid for me so that I can keep up with dart..lol
Or heck, I'd even try getting a wheelchair if I was in that much agony. Seriously.
Aww.
I'll go on another cruise sometime ruru and you will catch up like you always do
I am going to get someone to bring me a chair so that I can sit.. but there are going to be hundreds of people there
Crutches, ruru?
don't make it worse...be harder to repair down the line
You should see about borrowing or renting a wheelchair for the day and get someone to help you with that.
Exactly, dart!
Hear hear
i missed doing the grid last month a day or two because i was getting married, and i'll probably miss a day or two in the next week due to the film festival i'm attending
I'm off to bed, goodnight all
night lurker
Good night, flosey.
josh, is your bride interested in Babble at all?
Lurker, yes.
g'night, flo
Gnight flosey
jilli!!!!!...lol
she plays prolific on facebook constantly, but mostly sees babble as one of the quirky things that i do every day
that'll change in time, i'm sure, josh
Babble, quirky?
I must be a quirk then.
if not... josh.. dump her...lol
she's been around long enough to know that its just what i do if i am near a computer at 1am, which is often
I thought you were a dork Neazle.
That too, Laura.
what's the difference between a dork and a quirk?
I'm a quirky dork and a dorky quirk.
Dunno. I'm just a fool. :P
She is. An April Fool.
[that's her birthday]
I think of you as a quick dork.. actually..lol
Quork?
I'm not that quick tonight.
Still have 25 left... chatting doesn't help, among other distractions.
dart, I finally remembered that word which is one of your faves
27
35 I meant to type there, haha!
took me a while before I saw that one jilli
Hit the wrong key. I had 35 but just saw several more... amazing what happens when you stop chatting and focus huh?
other one is teiid
mine too, dart.
the little buffalo is here too
Finally.
Yay Neazle!
My cheerleader.
wow neil really great job
Thanks ruru! :)
Well done, neil!
nj neil
Thanks jilli and dart!
Now I'd better go kill the new Sudoku puzzle... then sleep might be an idea.
go get em neil
yay, i get to go to the astros at nats on Sunday. Hope the 9.11 remembrance won't be too sacharine and jingoistic
congrats, neil, have fun
did anyone watch the green bay/ saints game?
re5 failure
Thanks, Seain. Just starting it now.
bye neil
thank god for lickety tonight
I second that ruru but even so, finding it too hard
I'm baaack.
wb west
ruru's ic** made me say that
the kitchen is just a black hole
yes, it's scary
pulls me in and won't let me back out
I like Jack NIcholson a lot
he is a good one
I share my b'day with the Shining's author
oh my Eddie Vetter got so old
Pearl Jam's on TV
has anyone noticed that there are 65 C words? That's scary too.
the k words are scaring me jilli
those too
They're not bad though jilli.
ah -- the Aussie call is here
If I had been born exactly one month later to the day, I would have shared my birthday with my own brother. How's that for weird? I'm 2 years and 11 months younger than him to the DAY.
better that way..then you both have your own birthday
Haha, yes.
I was going to say -- better than sharing the day
Both on the 29th. Him in Jan. and me in Dec.
our oldest daughter's birthday is the day after my husband's he didn't get a cake until she left home
1982 (him) and 1984 (me).
grandson was born on Dec 26 so when a little guy celebrated his unbirthday on his uncle's bday, June 24.
hard to be an almost Christmas baby
Haha, they shared one? They should have each had their own... more cake for everyone. ;)
well he did get his name on the bottom of her cake
Wouldn't have mattered to me as we don't do Christmas.
My aunt was born on Feb 29, 1896 so didn't have a birthday until she was 8. There was no leap year in 1900.
that's so sad jilli
I didn't realize there wasn't a leap year in 1900
Wow. That would be weird. Don't leap year babies celebrate the birthday they should have anyway?
I think so, but it wasn't her REAL b'day.
I wouldn't mind having 3 years cut out every 4
if only westford !!
hi ursh
Done [Iron Sudoku].
I don't do Sudoku
ditto
i'm missing one damn a..
crapola
Which one, ruru?
no idea neil.. lol not a clue
Know the stats for it?
I just got a strange al 7/28
the a on the right column
is it dart's fave?
A measure of property, ruru.
ah.. I see what I'm missing
Think farm?
got it
dart's fave is from the left column
thanks
The African shrub, jilli.
And one of the best vowel-dump words in Scrabble.
my fave you can't use in Boggle
lol
You're welcome, ru.
goes both ways jilli
and the pl
Well you know how it goes in Scrabble... sometimes you're stuck with all vowels or nearly all vowels.
I know, neil -- it's one of my faves too, has been for years
That word is great for getting rid of some!
ruru did you read my profile..been leaving it there for you
We've had so much fun with that on G+ westford. Thanks for sharing that.
Did Laura tell you my blues name?
happy to neil
yes but I can only remember the fruit
naturally lol
that's really clever and cute westie
that's really clever and cute westie
west, dart's fave can't come from the right -- it starts with 2 As
left jilli
oh then I have the wrong one
ru, I know -- I said it CAN'T come from the right. West said it worked both ways.
and all this time...
what did you think it started with, west?
I only passed it along ru but glad you liked it
I'm taking a screenshot of our blues name thread to send you, westford. Want to see it too, jilli and ruru?
ao jilli
Yes please, neil
Laura posted it but she changed her name to her blues name, so that's the name it's posted by.
ty west
I like hers
west, I swiped your blues tale too -- will be sending it around -- love it!
good jilli have you picked a name?
oh god.. these co's.. holy moly
bad as re's ?
very confusing
not yet, west -- brain not operating
fireworks
hooray for dart
ah there you are !! Yay dart !!
thought you must have finished while I was trapped in the kitchen
Ok, got the screenshot ready to email.
thanks neil looking forward to seeing them
:-)
Want a copy of it ruru?
Congrats, dart!
Just waiting to see if ruru wants a copy of this.
I thought he said he did, neil
Oh he left?
he did
He doesn't seem to be here?
I meant he said he wanted to see it
His knees may have made him leave and go to bed
was working on his co's
Neil - your Twitter commentary of the GOP debate, scathing and funny :)
Oh, you read my bio again, boat?
Glad you enjoyed it. ;)
jilli just got the Aussie call..thought you meant someone was phoning you from there lol
oh yes, west -- confused, he said (which is a co word but not here)
I saw your pic was different so I looked and saw the Tweets, so yes :) The stuff about Santorum was hilarious!
I was posting it all simultaneously on Twitter, G+ and in my bio here, plus watching and listening to it. Talk about multitasking.
LOL, west!
I felt worn out after that.
Haha, thanks!
Always nice when someone appreciates it. ;)
I'm worn out meself and am off to bed -- will enjoy your email tomorrow, neil
Jeez, that would've worn me out! Well done.
I sent it to my husband too neil and he really got a kick out of it
I had some fun with this photo... contrasting it and cropping it to just 1/4 of my head. My stepmom says I'm "half a Neilroy" in this one.
hi all
goodnight all...*poof
Good night, jilli.
hi saman
yo westie
I'm not staying long. my brain's half dead and i'm worn out
and good night jilli (first time) lol
sure is nice that we have 24 hours to finish, isn't it?
evening all :)
hi mrp
I'm thinking of sleeping until the ringing phone wakes me tomorrow. I'm sure I'm getting calls from someone or another
Sent that email, westford.
thanks neil will reply soon
View the attached image full size or it won't be readable. Well you'll see.
Hi mrp!
I hope I can read it
And thanks again, boat.
I'm sure you can, westford -- if you view it full size.
going to look now
Sure :)
What?? Sealion not in dictionary!!
that is too funny neil
Two words, I think
I tried that too
Thought you might like that, westford!
booooo!!!!
My need to sleep is overwhelming my neurotic need to get halfway before I quit.
Two words, that's what I was thinkin'.
I thought I was so clever too!
Although, thanks for the li 4/4 :)
Should be. I see them playing on the beach right across the road from where I live. I was surprised that didn't work in here.
Good night, all, and may you never wake up in the middle of the night smelling smoke.
I've seen it written both ways.
(As blessings go, it's kind of specific but useful.)
Ummm yes, SamanthaJoy. Smoke detectors are a really good idea, too.
good night and thanks saman..hope you never do either
Too late! It's just on my mind. The whole state's on fire, everywhere smells like smoke.
Oh yes, you're in TX?
Central Texas, yes.
if only we could send you some rain
I know, I know. The distribution system is just broken right now. God needs to call in a plumber.
are you all set to get out in a hurry if you need to?
Holy shnikes, TX? I hope y'all get steady rain that the ground can soak.
Oh yeah. We've been packed since, um, I don't know, weeks ago now.
just remember things can be replaced
Oh yeah. It's us, it's our dogs, it's out insurance paperwork and lots of water. I think there are two ohysical non-essential items we both want, and that's because they're useful and only weigh a few ounces.
I hope you don't have to go
with all the hurricanes around one has to dump rain on you
Odds are we won't, really. The FD is on high alert and the only fire that even a little bit big within 10 miles of me was arson.
Wow. Hope you stay safe there, Samantha!
that's terrible
We're too far inland for hurricane rain. We just get hurricane wind, which is less than helpful.
hope they caught the creep
Oh good. Hopefully it won't reach you.
The four creeps? Oddly, even with physical descriptions, no one's turned in the teenagers yet. *shrug*
I wish I knew what makes people like that tick
Being 15, I think. Aren't there 50/50 odds that they're still little sociopaths at that age?
you bet
they should be helping to fight the fires not setting them
wait, wasn't I supposed to be asleep by now?
sleep is good but sometimes talking is good too
there's no other subject of conversation possible around here. *sigh*
somehow "so, seen any good movies lately?" has just died out as a conversational opener
good morning everybody
I can not fathom the sheer size of the fires
Good morning, ruby!
hi ruby samantha's in TX too
And now I am seriously off to bed. 'Night all! *poof*
good night saman dream of rain..lots and lots of it
samantha? are you still here?
my son is in Austin
{{westford}}
have you heard from him ruby?
((ruby))
not since Tuesday but I looked at the maps yesterday and the fires were still on the other side of town
I looked at Samantha's profile, but don't know where that town is
how are you, westofrd? I am trying not to obsess about it today
or even ford*
she said central TX
I'm good just tired of all the cold and rain
the weather is embarrassingly nice here
cousin's son is getting married today..I'm sure when they picked the date they thought it would be perfect Sept weather
and don't be embarassed..just enjoy it
I hope it's an indoor wedding!
I have a feeling it's outside..on the beach
oh no
hope they have an alternate plan
it's funny how many of yesterday's words are in here (not that I got very far then)
Love your thing about the Blues Westford, I laughed from beginning to end!!
I'm so glad I posted it
hi deeha
lots of people are getting a much needed laugh
I still haven't figured out a name for myself
Hi Ruby how come you are having good weather and we are having gale force winds - I was always told ALL our bad weather came from France!!!
As long as it isnt Big Willie!!
sure deeha they keep the good weather and send the bad abroad
A blues name, westford?
Haha, we've already had one like that.
just read your blues post, west, too funny since my son is a blues musician. Plays with the Blind Orange Jefferson blues band
and John is whiter than white! hahzh
lol ruby he must have seen it
There are a lot of white blues musicians.
Johnny Hammond
I don't know. and Orange Jefferson (old, black) is a home-grown Austin blues man, and there's no rain!
23 K words - there arent 23 k words in the world!!
ruby have they ever been on Austin City Limits?
my thought exactly dee
they play at Victory Grill but I don't know the other name.
haven't been in Austin in 3 years and John was in another band then
The 65 C words kind of blows my mind.
just found two k babblets; there can't be 23!
I didn't c that, boat
They're not bad though, boat. The C words.
A lot of them are similar, too.
hello neil
Well, I've found 15. So I'm on my way. I've found 4 K's.
Hi ruby.
you're in the grid again neil
In all the years I've been playing, I think that's the most words for one letter I've ever seen.
Oh he is :)
too bad it doesn't count
(who does neil know? hmmm....)
must be dr god lol
Huh, ruby?
just kidding, neil
Oh, haha. I'm often in the grids.
My name doesn't work though, darn it.
You should define yourself and get yourself in the dictionary.
you're the first neil we've had so must be why we're seeing your name now
peri has her name in very often
and you, too, west
she sure does
I'm already in the Urban Dictionary, boat. Seriously. Someone we know entered my first and last name and someone has actually made an entry for me... not a very flattering one either. Seems any idiot can add to that site.
and sprite's dog!
and sometimes our real names too ruby
yes, my real name and one of my nicknames have been in
Yaaaaaaaaaa, Urban Dictionary, not so good lol :)
Ummm, no. There's NOTHING good about being entered in that, boat. I try to forget it every day.
I never heard of that; is it only online?
Yes.
Good lord! *finished reading UD* Now that's some bitterness, yowzah!
Huh? How would you have known what name to put in there, boat?
I just looked up Neil, that's all. I'm assuming that's what you are under.
No. That's not me, boat. I'm under my first and last name.
Neil is a very common name... that entry for just that first name has nothing to do with me.
Oh, ok. Well don't look up Neil. The #2 definition for that one is pretty bad. Sheesh.
And someone on Twitter just told me I need a smack. *headshake*
because of your debate post?
Yes, I've seen that actually. It was mildly amusing.
just kidding, I hope!
No, westford.
or tweet
I'm still learning the proper terms
Oh no, I don't think she's kidding. Some of the people who tweet at me aren't exactly the brightest bulbs, shall we say?
She said she's telling my [older] brother that I need a smack. So I just replied: Good luck with that.
some people just like to cause trouble
what is the point of being unpleasant online?
now I don't know all the ins and outs but can anyone reply or do you have to know them?
Who knows? People do it all the time. I'm just laughing at that one.
so she wasn't being serious then?
maybe they're so isolated they have no one else to vent on
westford, I don't want or need anyone else to reply to her, thanks. I'm not taking it seriously because she's clearly not too bright.
And I'm not exactly worried my brother's going to smack me anytime soon either.
Haha, it's yet another Twitter moron, that's all. They're plentiful.
that's not what I meant neil I was wondering if people that tweet on twitter are part of an invited group..as I said I don't know much about it
I just shake my head and block them.
good you can do that
If you have a public account on Twitter then anyone can read and reply to anything posted.
who is the bigger of the two of you?
No, westford. Twitter's pretty useless really. All you can do is post updates... that's it. I wouldn't bother with it if he wasn't on there, probably. But I post my political opinions and links to important political articles there for the public to read. I always post the very same updates simultaneously on G+ too, to our personal/private network.
Of course, boat. And it is public... that's why I don't do anything personal there. Just post what I just described. I don't use it for personal stuff. I keep all that to G+ which is totally private.
I've gotten to the point where I don't put anything in FB because once you write something, it stays there!
Not only that, ruby... but there is literally no such thing as a private FB page, no matter how private you think you've made it.
so it's like a text message?
There are countless web pages out there with scripts that allow any member of the public to view the full contents of any "private" FB page.
So it's something I can't use. I have to keep certain things I post from public view. Personal items I share with family and friends, etc.
fortunately, my name is very common on FB, so I don't really care
It's just a text update, westford. Kind of like the posts in this chog.
I see, ruby. Mine isn't.
My first name, yes.
my real name
I figured that's what you meant.
My first name is extremely common... last name isn't.
ruby is not so common
No, but that isn't your real first name, is it?
and I love when people call me ruby, but that's only in here!
your dog and my cat lol
hahah, west!
and my other dog (in ic** picture) is Max. How common is that???
Very.
Right up there with Rex.
his "real" name is Mi-Pao's Veyrier Black Maximus
and I have a moth and a fish named Spot
what did you name your new spider?
same as the old one of the same species, "Caliope"
that's pretty
I think it rhymes with Argiope (not knowing latin....)
the only other person I've heard of who feeds spiders is David Sedaris
our ruby is a calico and her sister was caliope
and our granddaughter
I love it, is she a calico?
grandaughter = Caliope?
lol no the cat's sister
hahah
Cassie will be getting her masters in entymology..real bug lover
wow, 28 c's! hahah
that's what I wish I had done but never lived in the country before
so wasn't interested in insects
she's a city girl but has always loved them
I always stay out of her room
Haha!
I need an 8 so I can go to bed..any help would be much appreciated
I hope she doesn't have a tarantuls or a wolf spider! I draw the line at those
assume the 9 is a plural
and a 9?
she has had pet tarantulas
No, it isn't.
then I need a 9 as well
Oh please stop the horror (spider) talk!
stats for both, please
sorry, boat!
I understand boat
co9,60
boat, are you on Flickr?
do you have a clue for the 9, neil, or even the 3rd letter?
would that be added to a 7?
Rainbows, muffins, moonbeams, cream colored ponies, crisp apple strudel...
flowers, boat?
I like those much better
co + double hooked consonant + home inv***** is a terrible crime.
LOL :)
Neil - Flickr, no.
See my question, boat?
Oh, ok.
Just thought I'd ask since you said you're not on G+.
ty neil!
yw ruby.
thanks neil
You're welcome, west.
Why do you ask?
Because you can connect with people on there and send messages.
thunper is afoot, see you later and still no 8's
{{westford}}
Connecting with people, so much effort ;)
hugs for neil and boat, too, sorry about the scary caht, boat.
bye ((ruby)) some day you need to put your recipe in your profile
No problem :)
Then don't, boat. :P
Bye for now, ruby.. take care.
which recipe, west, my memory is failing.....?
I am delighted to share recipes!
only really good ones are for guacamole and gazpacho
for his drink
hahah
can't wait to try the bread
*poof*
you'll be a star! and never tell the secret
Laura has a recipe blog and when she posts to it, she also posts her recipes in our G+ stream... with photos of each dish.
is she vegan too?
Too? Besides who?
I know JC is
and maybe seain
I don't think Seain is.
our 2nd daughter and her husband are vegetarians
Laura is though, yes. And she posts delicious recipes. I have given her some of them... for a few of our Jewish food items. Like potato latkes and our sesame dessert, halvah.
I make killer latkes
She alters them a little... she comes up with interesting variations.
so no eggs
No, but our latke recipes don't contain them anyway... the ones we used in our family.
do you use matzo to keep them together? and do you cook?
A little, yes. And of course I cook... I have to eat.
I live on my own so yes, I cook.
there's cooking and there's heating up
Well no, I don't eat out of cans. I cook.
glad to hear it
I can't stand canned vegetables. Yuck.
double yuck
Fresh whenever possible... or sometimes frozen. But never canned, no way.
when we lived in Coronado we had Vince the vegetable man he came around with his truck every Thursday I miss that
Oh and you'd get a box or crate of veg?
the produce in the supermarket is so poor lately
Depends where you go.
no we just picked what we wanted
We have very good produce though.
we did the crate thing with our co-op
I know I miss CA
Oh, ok. I wondered if that's what it was.
I keep thinking about a garden but after all this rain it would have been flooded out
Yeah, you would've lost it all.
Oh man. No wonder I'm yawning my head off.
add 3 hours to that
be a sweetheart and give me stats for an 8 please
Yeah, what are you doing up at this time?
an8,45
brain is dead
thanks
I'm a night owl
si8,45
te7,38 & te8,40
Hi West, Neil. West - your 'Blues' thingy is hilarious. I'm still laughing :-)
And another te8,40.
Then a tr8,40.
hi soodle glad I didn't take it down then
Hi Soodlebum.
thanks neil I should be able to get at least one
any compound words?
Let me know if you need clues... when I get back. Making a cup of something. Probably herbal tea. BRB.
ok
Ah rats.... I gotta go as well. But thanks for the chuckle, West. Poof
bye sood come back when you can sit awhile
there nbt nbs thank you neil and good night
Back.
Oh, guess you're gone. Ok, then I'm gone too.
My eyes can no longer find any words. I'm off. Thanks for all the converstion everyone. Laters!
Grr, conversation.
Hi all!! NBT & NBS, bit late but better then never.
hi grannie...better late than never, indeed
good morning everyone:)
hi crossy :)
hello, back!
((crossy))
{{annie}}
((RUBY))
diz gran!!!!
((ruby)) did you hear from your son?
not since Tuesday, but I've been watching the maps. Sorry for my melt-down yesterday
acck! 65 c words!:(
understandable, ruby
I have 35 from this AM, crossy....hahah
:P
I shouldn't do that, however, I think it's taking advantage.....
just started the cees
everybody is so kind!
why were you in melt down mode yesterday ruby?
because I was worried about my son in Austin TX, crossy
what is going on in texas(been to busy for the newspapers and do not watch television much)
they had more than 80 days over 100F, no rain, and now there are fires
wildfires
he and his wife have evacuation plans, if necessary
bonjour jean
that is always bad in dry hot areas like that,i hope your son stays safe
hey ruby :-)
ruby, then, if need be, they will evacuate...you didnt ra5 a fool
true, true, and his wife is even more sensible and composed
and ty for the ra5, annie
sometimes it's hard being so far away.....
(not that I could do anything to help)
I agree Ruby...I have one in China
when I hear about earthquakes and such I go crazy
ruby, yest it is the distance that is making you jumpier...I would be the same
I can imagine, jean, that would be even harder.... where in China?
Hi Jean...far enough
Xuzhou
80 days of over 100F?! i could not live in that environment
I am going there on Sep 19
he doesn't have a choice, crossy, but neither could I!
what big city is it near, Jean?
I guess Bejing would be the closest but several hours
maybe Nanjing is closer
is your son a techie or a missionary?
not allowed to discuss the indictment . . .
;-p j/k he teaches English
aaaah
and just b ecame engaged
one of my neighbor's son is in China teaching English also
how lovely!
congrats, Jean
ty she is adorable and they are very happy
what a nice story!
can tell you something cute about the engagement
waiting.....
they climbed Mt Taishan one weekend as that is where he wanted to propose and she did not know
afterwards he posrted a picture on FB the two of them holding umbrellas, glasses of champaign wearing green army jackets . . .
that is so nice!
and the caption read: cimbed 6 hours in the dark and rain on Mt Tai Shan, we rented military jackets that smelled of old communism and amidst the clouds and mist, we toasted to our future"
cracked me up
it sounds like your son is a true romantic!
he really wanted it to be special
she was not expecting it
for nbt, pls, lowest -middle o
hi ruby, oi - compound word -
also a plural number
thanks, jbv and hi
{{JBV}}
sendng good thoughts out for your son in Texas, ruby
ty jbv
ty JBV
I just heard from a friend here in NJ - I thought Irene was gone and over, but she was hit hard - I never knew - major flooding in house, garage, 2 cars totaled, what a mess
oh and if anyone is making a prayer list, please add her son, suffering terribly from Crohn's disease for many years, undergoing surgery this week
I think folks in NJ were very quiet about their suffering in the storm.....
how old is her son?
Nj was hit hard...your friends son added to my prayer list
the northern part of the state was hit hardest
late 20's, this has been 8 to 10 years of horror
thank you Annie
my ex and his wife live in New Brunswick
Kyle just turned 31
that is a nasty disease!
New Brunswick was flooded - they had to close Route 18 the river just came right over
that is a perfect age for getting married, jean
I drove by this week, you can see the mud trail way up high on the sides of the road
funny, my son hasn't mentioned it....
You can google the pictures, ruby, it was limited to the area right near the river
I guess he is more worried about fires than his dad's flooding.....
http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2011/ 08/flooding_closes_route_18_throu.html
here's just one link
I have no idea where he lives, but he and wife teach (or taught) at Rutgers
yes, we have to prioritize our worries
ty for the link
imagine my poor friend, though, spending days and nights with her son, while her home is in ruins
Did I tell you I 'm taking a course at Rutgers ruby?
in what, jbv?
oh and did I mention they had a wedding in the midst of all of that - guests were supposed to stay at her house, but they had to go to a hotel, house was without power and underwater
if it wasn't so tragic you'd have to laugh
maybe if all your troubles come at once, then you can have a period of clear sailing.....
Italian Cinema and Literature - it's great so far (2 classes) I even had homework, it's nice being on campus, and the kids are great
that's a good thought, ruby, let's hope so ....
husband and wife are in history dept (although he must be retired). He edits the Journal of the History of Ideas from there
his photos, posted on FB by our son, look monstrous!
how long have you been divorced ruby?
41 years separated and 37 years divorced. But who's counting?
It was not a match made in heaven, that's for sure
that's interesting ruby, that's the same number of years I haven't been in touch with my family in Italy - 37 - and it was VERY strange exchanging photos with them after all these years
we knew each other when we were young and beautiful :)
my 92-year-old aunt has aged gracefully and is beautiful with white hair, great skin - some of her sons not so well.....
there are people I would be embarrassed to see now, having changed so much in the last 20 years
one of them looks like an old man and he's younger than me
I hit my peak in my late 40's and it's been a precipitous fall since then!
wrinkles upon wrinkles.....
oh no, don't say that ruby, you've earned every single one of those wrinkles - :)
:D
I've see pics ruby... you look great
I know I can't turn back time - I'm at least 30 pounds heavier than the way they remembered me, but then I was a child :)
no one is meat to look 20 when they are 60 - it is creepy
ty KJE, you are a peach!
I agree, kje, all these puffed up lips and abraded faces - they look monstrous
I think an abraded face would help me, JBV! hahah
i just watched season 7 of scrubs on netflix (marginal show but i was bored) - one of the actresses gets a facelift part way through.... so freaki bizarre looking, almost does't look like her
but not the lips and NO shots
just a fantasy, not possible in this life!
I also found it interesting that most of my cousins (4 brothers) all married much younger women
they all look great of course
however, if I'm granted a do-over, no more dark dark tans like I always had while I lived in Miami
I am in my mid-40s... my goal is to age healthy, not to avoid aging at all
my mother, who lived to be 85, had lovely skin and fewer wrinkles than I have now at 68!
I COULD avoid aging... it is called dying
there's only one way to avoid aging, and we don't want to think about that, right?
bad Ruby, too much sun
I don't mind greying hair; it is softer around the wrinkles
sorry, jbv... said it
that is too true, jbv, and I've lost many friends and cousins
oh, I thought you meant dyeing! hahah
(you see what you want to see!)
dyeing is easier
actually, i do dye... kinda... I get highlights which at this stage is enough to blend in the gray I have
yes, I also cover my grey and add highlights, my one indulgence
my hair is pepper-and-salt and brown -- I never colored it and won't start now. However, I've been told that neutral henna makes the individual hairs thicker
men have really screwed us up - lol
and I am in a constant battle to take off those pounds, I'm kind of stuck on a plateau right now, but am very faithful tot he Weight Watchers program
having to do all this crap
and exercise every day
my hair is thin, fine and curly
just saw a post for a groupon (kind of coupon) for gold and silver eyelashes!!! I was like... wtf?
my hair is also thin fine ad curly... excpet when I blow it out
my husband went on a South Beach diet (his doctor was Arthur Agitston in Miami) and it takes two people to do it, but he lost a lot of weight and with my modifications, has been able to stick to it. Unfortunately, he is too skinny now
I am doing WW jbv
why does it take two people to do it
south beach is a decent one
and the habits he learned while on his regine, have stuck, and I can't fatten him up
I've been doing it all my life, kje, I know it works -
if patiets ask me to recommend a formal diet, I say WW or south beach
One to prepare the food (moi!) and one to eat it and get on the scale
as long as they truly do south beach and do ot just stay in the 2 week nno carb area
oh
I've made modifications to the SB diet and have come up with some lovely, low-fat and low-calorie dishes.
well, my habits have definitely changed int he last 6 years - before that I have to admit it was a series of ups and downs, but now I've maintained a 40 pound weight loss for 5 years
so I feel good about that, although I am not near my goal yet
he eats pasta dsometimes but, overall, doesn't eat enough
Hi all. Just popping in before the bus! Clue please for the Top Row E and the Right Hand N?
he doesn't eed to diet anymore...
is it low carb or no carb?
pearlescent interior of oysters, na5/12
good for you jbv!!! keeping it off is harder than losing
I could never give up carbs completely
TY Ruby!
would you please tell him that, KJE
it is complex carbs... steers you away from simple carbs ad juk food
right hand n: mother of pearl na5
Well done JBV!
he won't even have a whole piece of (dry) toast for breakfast
bonjour, une, have you heard from your Austin relatives?
Ty Une!
no but other cousins have responded
prob one of the best diets is just to ot eat any processed food... fruits, veggies, lean meats, whole grains... nothing from the aisles
he is stubborn, must be part chow chow
family in Shreveport, LA, is only 30 miles from fires . . .
et 7/28; et 6/18 forever
TY Michelle!
Austin family lives IN the city but their ranch is apparently close to where the fires are . . .
thanks Michelle
NBT for me!
ty michelle
welcome
son lives in the city; you can see the skyline from his house. His wife's sister has a ranch outside of town
so it sounds like a similar situation :-(
my eating plan fits very well with the way I was raised - Mediterranean diet - lots of fresh vegetables, leafy greens, olive oil, limited meat, lots of fish
my father would be proud to see me eating broccoli rabe and swisschard which he used to make and which I never liked back then
Bus time! BBL!
where my son's house is, however, is on the greenbelt, whick is bone-dry
later, car!
so that is the worry
mmmmmm - love swiis chard and kale... use them a lot in soups and braises
bye car.
yes, kale too
ruby, my cousin who lives in Shreveport said she literally ran outside and danced in the rain the last time they actually had some wet stuff . . . it's been a looong time
me too, kje -- add kale and chard to chili as well
oh and lentils and chickpeas and eggplant - all part of my normal routine
austin, too, une
how do you make your eggplant, jbv, mine is always disgusting, although I like it in restaurants
a friend gave me eggplant and peppers from her garden yesterday -- yay!!
baba ghanouj!
well I just cut it up and cook it like a stew with whatever is around - then serve it over rice or pasta (whole wheat of course)
that's the one thing I can make with it, kje, but plain cooked, I haven't a clue
ruby, i include diced eggplant in my veggie chili
you can also make a caponata to serve cold
peeled or not?
stir fried
I love eggplant, but ot so much stewed
peeled
aaah, I didn't think of caponate which I love
I peel it in strips to leave a little bit on - that's the way my mother always did it - otherwise it falls apart
ta*
oh yes, caponata is delish
slice it and put it on the grill
grilled!!!
I used to love Progresso caponata in the little cans....can't get that here
oiled?
those little cans cost $3.99 now ruby - I make my own
i also slice it and layer it in a baking dish with tomato sauce and cheese
a little oil doesn't hurt :)
I've been away a long time!
lightly oiled... or brushed with a miso paste andn grilled is good too... miso, garlic, giger, sesame oil
good morning friends!
hey, trif!
I've tried broiling it in the oven with olive oil and garlic and it just ends up greasy and icky
baba ganoush!
food talk, trif... are you surprised ? ; )
{{trif}}
try less oil - and thicker slices
I make baba ganoush without tahini and like it better than I used to
aaah, thicker slices, that may be the key
gotta run -- good to see everyone! Later *poof*
LOL! Food is a surprising topic! usually when I am here it's bacon, septic tanks or dogs
bye for now everybody, time for a lie-down
*poof*
and prep the eggplant... look at cooks illustrated website, ruby, and read about using eggplant... they have a good article
I once baked one in the oven for baba ganoush without piercing it and OILA, a grand explosion of eggplant all over the oven
oops
voila*
and now i must head to the shop, but before i go i give you crossy,s tidbit of the day!
yay, half!
The visual “tail†of a comet has nothing to do with its direction of travel; rather, solar wind pushes it so that it always points away from the Sun.
crossy!!!!
waiting for crossy's tidbit!
tc all and happy babbling..poink!
Really? 65 C words!?
be happy none of them are THE c word, bzzn!
I HATE that word!
23 k too... nasty grid
me too...but it shows up here!
tho, I have to say, I am sort of over that word too - part of that is due to going to ireland so many times, where it's used quite a lot, and then I saw the Vagina Monologues....
well, that shut down the chog, trif - lol
lol
morning all, help with top e pls
forever
et7 - forever
sheesh, ty tried it without out lasta vowel first

congrats on finishing JBV
congrats, jbv
she already changed it - shucks if you didnt see it
I haven't been here in 3-4 days. It has been a busy week but now I am off til Monday. Which day was your birthday, River?
the 7th was mine - day before yours
I love September--birthday, nice weather, school starts...
Jilli has a very handsome, very naked male holding a birthday cake you know where - just for us....
Aha, very nice!
For some years, River, we started school on our birthday.
I remember that - now school here starts a week before
my son started Aug 31 this year
Local schools started on various days--some last Thursday, some on 9/6, most on 9/7.
but they call school off so quickly now than they did when we were kids....snow was never an issue then
My youngest sister has ordered a Nook Color for my birthday. I'll receive it next week. I am so excited!
we just trudged right through
Yep, less whining, tougher people, no worry about lawsuit filed vs school...
good morning, all. My huband's heart cath went just fine. There is no problem with his heart at all. All arteries and veins are wide open and working normally. And he is home now. so, all is again right in my world.
thats great news angel
Yay! GREAT news, Angelsong. I went through that with my father in July.
So good to hear, Angel!
I am going to the kitchen to grab some breakfast. Would anybody like something? Coffee, tea, cereal, toast, yogurt, eggs?

It did not come with a car charger, correct? I am trying to figure out what accessories to order. Car charger, screen protector, case, etc.
I don't recall him saying it came with a car charger. He did buy a case for it, I do know that for sure
thanks bzzz and good morning
I got a case for my Sony reader that has a light in it, which is really nice to have

have a good day kj
and vv hursh
hi hursh
Hello, hurshy. We can keep each other company as we trudge through the grid. Walking through treacle springs to mind.
i=
No idea why I am putting myself through these grids. No reward at all!!
Fortunately, the treacle is not toxic
What won't kill you makes you stronger?
what won't kill you will keep your jaws locked firmer
A number of words that are new to me ... or perhaps it is a dementia thing.
Funny, Haz!
not thinking I'll be strong by the time, and if, I finish this grid!
if they are K words, it is normal
No dementia. Think torture.
strong is not the word that comes to mind
I think I'm just frustrated because you can't get any pattern going.
have already had 2 cups of good strong coffee, not helping
Perhaps Fibber McGee might help?
I saw a lovely name for a pub today. Filthy McNasty's. It would work well for this grid.
faint memory of FMcG & Molly?
how true haz
oooo nice
just monkeyed tr7 and tr8 odd
That coffee is beginning to work.
I think you all really like the grid since it tests character and builds resiliency.
indeed Haz
that too, BabbleRabble, that too
You're right, BabbleRabble and we're just moaning to reinforce bonding.
Of course, I have been know to emit a bunch of hooey on occasion.
You shock me!
We take every word you say at face value.
never noticed that
Hey, hurshy, I hope your days are going well.
I like that word, hooey
does anyone else think that "nooner" should be a word?
of course
yes, and a good one too
;)
treacle, indeed
am starting to believe you... almost halfway and already a treacly feeling
my days are going pretty well, thanks brabble
I'd like to move a t over to the left side please

thanks for the welcome. Got a ways to go till I get as good as you guys
no kidding... glad this wasn't the first grid I did... I'd never have believed I could play
This grid doesn't make many of us feel particularly competent.
hi there dpml - welcome to the grid and the chat
indeed
tell me about it. Not feeling real smart right now
yes, the chat keeps us going dpml
in thre years time you will have a brain full of words of which you'll have no idea what they men dpml
none of us are
I'vwe done thise for 3 months now
nah, you can look them up and know what they mean. You just won't have any occasion to ever use them :)
only 3 months, vanilla? Seems longer!
lots of useless verbage in my mental lexicon
to me too, but thats about it
my favorites are pfui and ywis.
ohhhh and sonsie.
maybe 4...and a half
when I see a word that means cheese in dutch I think where the heck did that come from

k thanks

hey sprite
Well, I'm going to leave you wading through treacle - sorry, achieving unheard of levels of resilience and stickability through dedicated word searching. I'll not say 'enjoy' but 'keep going'. Bye for now!
bye Haz
hagd Haz
kthanks Haz, enjoy your day
almost scared to confess I am enjoying myself
Bye!

But of course -- and thank you all!!
yw
Hi all
greyed out the C's
wtg teach
wow...I salute you!
hi Boo
hi, the rookie is back. Checking out rankings. When does points show up in rankings.
just back, well done teach, 12 to go here
don't really know, dpml, never go there
go flosey!
hi sprite, hi dpml, even if you finish the grid early, the rankings will not change until the "flip" which is when the new Babble grid appears tongiht
oops - tonight
i think when you are above the bottom number given - each of the three columns are different - go to the bottom of each column
sprite how's things?
hi JBV :) Mwah, holding on, but not great. Cannot sleep for the life of me. Back acting up too. But mentally okayish. How are you?
oh that's not good about the back - I know how that is, things here are good - I escaped Hurricane Irene's wrath with no problems, thank God
sprite I watched a fascinating video about one of your countryment - do you know about the Strandbeests? So amazing
oh that is great, am so happy you and yours are ok
I have more points than the bottom number on column and still not on rankings. You should check it out sprite, cause your in the 3 columns. Arent you curious where you rank
well, little problems anyway (some siding ripped off the house, etc.) but things to laugh about, not like some of the disasters people are suffering through
let me check :)
oh Theo Jansen?
dpml did you see my post at 11:24?
oh yes, he must be quite an interesting guy
sprite your mr wilders is coming to Australia, can't you keep him there?
not really, dpml, I have had top rankings and I have been low, and either time I enjoyed the game just the same... doesn't mean much to me. And if you just started, you won't show up at all. It may take a while.
if you finished the grid today you will have 4114 points tomorrow
oops, is that right sprite? I thought it would be by tomorrow -
vanilla, why don't you guys lose him somewhere in that huge continent? Without any water, if possible?
oh, could very well be, JBV, I don't remember exactly what the difference between the columns was. One was for last 30 grids, that I know for sure.
we've got some nice crocs here
I see that Mr Boyd, a former pitcher for the Boston Red Sox is in the grid today.
He has one of the best all-time baseball nicknames.
I can't understand that one of our liberal party members is bringing him over
I don't really look at the rankings either; I think to get high up on them you have to play the game daily, and finish most or all of the time, and I just can't do that.
since crocs have been around a lot longer than we, I am sure they wouldn't get indigestion... good idea! And never call him MY mr Wilders. I really really feel he is scary.
but I have fun anyway :-)
hey wht :)
yeah he's bad news
Hi Sprite and all
dmpl, this game isn't played in a very competitive way... we would help eachother rather than compete. I guess that is why most people aren't much interested in the rankings.
Just Babbling during lunch
well, I don't mind admitting I check the rankings :)
I was at 1030 for a very long time until Hurricane Irene interrupted our power and I missed one day
lol no shame in that, JBV
but sprite is right, the main fun is competing with yourself
yeah that 1030 shows you have finished every grid for the last 30 days.
and it will take another 30 days to get back to the top, but I play just because it's fun and maybe I'm addicted, but we never use that word here
addicted? Tsk. I can stop whenever I want.
yes, I love the strandbeesten. They walk.
it must be so cool to be ont he beach and see that
it is! And he has so much fun with them himself. That is almost the best part.
i have a bit of pineapple stuck between my teeth and it is very irksome
*hands hurshy a toothpick*
ty
the best video (there are several not very good ones) is this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCtA5kX -Ktg&feature=related
the first part shows him having a bit of trouble but if you wait til the 1:00 minute mark - it's really DRAMATIC
and the music is fantastic
ok sorry, have to go, dinner is served. See you all later!
ok sorry, have to go, dinner is served. See you all later!

hi all, help with the te/8's pls
I have one of them already
do u have first or last one per?
they are similar...change second vowel from the first one
don't know, not using list. the one that sounds like earth
change the 2nd vowel
and one is a compound...
I am confused. I only have one option of chaning the 2nd vowel and it does not work
and cannot figure out the compound. how many te7/8's are there?
is the one you have with the second vowel the first vowel of the alphabet?
two
yes
I have 2 te8 words but don't see a compound te8, are there 3?]
then change that vowel for the second vowel of the alphabet
no...just two
thanks phaeton
ty, was not going in that direction. no longer confused :)
your welcome...not easy to clue
I have found 16 of the k words but only 33 of the c words

How is the grid
1
it is a bear, boo
tough but interesting
challenging but fun... and it contains a bear too
Thanks
ty
FW!
monkeys panting in the corner
wtg kje!
eyeing the cute bears for lunch
well done kj
*throws a bunch of fruit to the monkeys*
What kind of bears are they
wtg kje
ko5 bears
down under bears Boo
very sweet, small, utterly cute
Ty
considered a pest in some areas, I believe
yeah... once you have to live with wildlife, it is much less cute
just ask me about my raccoons
not.cute.at.all
C
oh, raccoons can be very nasty
i have at least 1, i think 2, living in my attic
they seem to be smarter than me
I believe you. For us here in holland it is very different. Animals like that are so exotic to us. We only have birds, hedgehogs, mice and rats, and bats around houses
oh kj, noisy?
our neighbour had to replace a rather large part of their roof because of them
I agree .they make a mess with the garbage
not so much... when awake at night they go out, when they come inside in the morning they sleep
so just the going and coming... or occasional fight
next house will be made of steel
ah that will give great acoustics :D
lol
I'm stuck on to6, first one, any clues please?
hard end of your foot points?
oh hell no that is a 7
sorry, have that one, there's another, after the singer

I have a to6 that ends in 10
thanks kj and sprite
there is another sprite
have all tos now, thanks
yay
ok, still missing that one then
missing te5 following the singer
at the end of your foot
ripped + start of the children's show neighborhod
te + most of what a caboose runs on
or an engine
or an elevated train
thanks kj, got it
and Ts finished
good, cuz i was running out of trains planes and automobiles
I am having a blind moment
for the te?
no the other to6
continuation of the cake
that is the one I have
to6 - start with the te4 before that means ripped then add 2/3 mr rogers of cowboy fame
oops - start with the to4 before it!!!
must run! see ya later
bye kje! and thanks!
65 c words. saints preserve us. whoa
Hi, I am having a bear with the C's, can I get a clue for the third co 5/12 ?

hi Annie, an Australian call

thanks Sprite, got it
yay :)
why isn't the bottom part of a big woody plant valid? Is that 2 words?
and that makes fireflies! Woot, very good grid. Feels like an accomplishment to finish it, lol.
wtg Sprite, afraid I'll be back later tonight, playing bridge this afternoon
YAY for sprite !!!!

will do, thanks - a fun group
finished the Ss, now back to the dreaded re
hi all. how's everyone?
lan ai
hello jes and pms
and thanks pms
does anyone have a clue for the re6 and 7 please?
hi jes and pms
how're you, annie?
just fine jes, how you?
i have an re6 which is to hammer together again, but that's the only one i have, flosey. sorry.
doing TONS of paperwork today, annie. printing a 28 page irs form right now. thrilling, i say.
thanks jes, have that one, these 6 & 7 are together
I have an re7---to put your arms in the air again
thanks Annie, have that one
IRS, bah
IRS - headache?
thanks, annie
yes, irs = headache! :)
youre welcome
plus, i just got back my license renewal and for the first time ever they want proof of my continuing education hours... but i can't find my registrations and completion certificates, so i'm trying to remember what conferences I attended, and contact the organizers to get that stuff.
oh, huge headache! sorry jes
sorry jes, as flosey said "huge headache:
yesterday i got to "attend" a phone conference/webinar with about 100 other vets and 3 bueaurocrats about new DEA reporting requirements. that was joyous
starting next month, i have to file weekly reports with the state on all controlled substances dispensed.
cuz i NEED more paperwork in my life.
and i'm now firmly convinced that only idiots attend webinars. it was unbelievable--these people are doctors, for craps sake. but they couldn't figure out to mute their speakers while talking to other people in the office!
When do you find the time to care for your dogs, cats, etc, etc
Of not for
so we had external conversations, dogs barking, phones ringing, and what sounded like a car door alarm?!? drowning out the speaker.
some days, annie, i don't. *sigh*
good lord! I hope you didnt have to pay for that.
no, it was free. only cost was an hour and 20 minutes of my time
sounds like a waste of time
seems Governments tend to waste a lot of our time
well, it did answer the questions i had about the new requirements; but i'd have been just as happy if they'd said "email us your questions, we'll post a faq"
hi all! jes, I was on a conference call last week and some guy had his granddaughter visiting.. she was making all kinds of noises.. became such an interference, he was asked to leave because he couldn't figure out how to press *6 and mute himself.. ugh
Hi Aloy :)
hi there Annie!
hi aloy... you'd think that *6 wouldn't be too complicated for a bunch of doctors, yeah? especially when the moderator gave repeated specific instructions and requests at the start, AND it was in text on the web portion. *headdes*
lol.. so true
.. what bothers me is that a "short" conf. will go over an hour.. ugh.. someone somewhere drags it out.. and I don't want to hang up, but I know those that do..
my mom does conference calls on a regular basis, and she says she wants to change the sign ins to split the groups into 2 sections, one that promises to mute and demonstrates that they know the key-in, and one that doesn't.
and then you get 4 people asking the same question, verbatim, despite the fact that it was addressed in the lecture AND has already been asked?
hey.. that might wake some people up! I've heard coughing, radios in the background.. etc
they graduated from med school and do not know how to mute or they dont care...*sigh*
Hi Jes.
I'm under attack again... such fun. :P
uh oh
oh dear, what now neil
But here's something that might give you all a really good laugh for the day: http://www.happyplace.com/3482/ok cupid-dating-profile-i-wont-murder-you
Oh nothing important flosey... yet another Twitter moron, that's all.
Click on the image of that profile to enlarge it so you can read it... it's hilarious.
that is crazy funny neil
Read it all... it's ingeniously funny.
will later neil, have to shower/dress to play bridge this afternoon - just trying to find a few more words here, down to 44
LOL. That is good, neil!
stuck on ai5
just finished reading it.. lol, do you think he will get a date?
I see.
Ummm, my guess? No.
and a $400 check to the IRS to go with the 28 page application. whee.
ai + a mixed up *** of Olay
*mimes spinning a party favor*
He might not get a date, but he'll sure get a few psych evaluations.
thanks Aloy

bye, flosey
Hi Aloy
hi Boo!
Clue for ak 6 please
pl of the ak5 before it
Ty
yw
At least, Aloyisius!
def. would steer away from that choice if I were a guy looking for a fun date, lol
finally dragged myself past 1/2 way on this grid. still 2 tiles short of nbt though.
happy to help if i can, jes
Clue for the second al5
from outer space, Boo
Ty
yw
the three following that are related to it
Ok
so the person who called yesterday with the unvaccinated dog is coming in today; they got one of the local rescues to foot the bill.
good news.. about how much will the bill run?
dunno. guess it depends on how bad the dog is. if we treat, probably $350-700. If we decide too sick to have good chance, and euthanize, $50 +/- cremation
but it's been sick for about a week already, which doesn't bode well.
distemper, do you think?
parvo
.. sad
and generally preventable.
vaccination is cheap. treatment is not. dead puppies are no fun. So I do not understand why people won't just frelling vaccinate.
doesn't make sense
woman from rescue says she told the guy off, pointed out that she's going to be putting several hundred dollars into his dog now because he was too lazy and/or stupid to get the puppy to a vet or even go buy the vaccines at the feed store and do it himself.
she has a heart and a conscious.. do you think her talk had an effect? h'mm
probably not. but he'll get the same from me later too.
conscience, that is
as well as specific instructions not to get another puppy for at least a year.
how will you see him again? you mean he will get the dog back if it recovers?
yeah. it's his dog.
not like i can just confiscate it.
to7... need to clip mine, lol
if that was going to happen, it would have had to be the rescue. they could have told him they'd take the dog, and treat it, but that they would not underwrite him.
i've done that several times--told people i'd match what they could come up with for the bill today, but if they have nothing, then i'll pay the whole bill and consider it buying the dog from them.
okie dokie, fw.. so off I go to do my overdue chores! ci4 for now, all.. Happy Babbling!
may I have a clue for re6 with an re7 following it please?
re + the number of indians in a nursery rhyme + common vowel
thanks Aloy
yay aloy!
and thanks for the clues :)
Rs wiped out
yw, fun grid.. lots of 4 letter words, but some stumpers too! real poof.. (-:
it is Aloy, am enjoying this grid
and my 1:00 appointment is here. away i get.
must go too, 35 to finish - be back tonight before flip
Could I get some help for the two 'et' words? I'm stumped.
forever boat
et7 = forever
Oh Okay got that one, Thanks!
hi there Jellen
hello all
et 6 = poetic forever
Hi, peri!
Thanks Jellen :)
And hi, boatierra...don't know that we've met before...
Probably not. I rarely say Hi. I just jump in.
Hi Jellen and boat.
Just as I'm leaving.
Oh, well Jellen... this is boatierra. And boatierra, meet Jellen. ;)
Thanks, neil, lol...
Anytime, haha.
Hello All :)
Just having yet another good headshake.
Thanks for the intro :)
See my Twitter page and the "fun" I've been having since yesterday, Jellen. Still continuing it looks like... will have to make use of the block feature.
Okay, will give it a look...
Love the Nicoll quote in your profile, boa...
That's one of my all time FAVORITE quotes :) I don't remember who sent that to me...
And I think it's a "bastarized" version of the quote. Anyhow I like it.
Why do elephants have so many wrinkles? Have you ever tried to iron one?
phantom erotica
haha, BabbleRabble...
Yes, that quote is funny.
That would be 'bastardized', if I could spell..
Why does phantom erotica keep coming up? I see it in the chat back log as well. Odd clue?
Have you ever read: "Californian Pachyderms", by L.A. Phant?
No, we just want the word to be there, and it's not...
Oh really, boat? Looking.
Groan, neil!
LOL :)
because it's a word you can't quite make from the letters of the grid, but it looks like it belongs, boatierra
[I'm in L.A. right now too.]
Oh.
Must be off the page now, whatever you're talking about? Not seeing it.
Oh, you meant that actual word. :P
Yes, I'm tired.
Q: What did Tarzan say when the elephants charged? A: “Look out, here come the elephants!â€
I saw that you were up quite late last night, neil...
Q: What did Tarzan say when he saw a herd of elephants with sunglasses? A: Nothing. He didn’t recognize them.
Pachydermatologist - An elephant's skin doctor.
Now that's a word!
I see I'm just in time to enjoy some of BR's jokes; something I always look forward to on Babble chat!
Hi, Luv
Hi Jellen
Yes I was, Jellen. And I was about to take a little bike ride around the neighborhood [N. Hollywood] here and get some air [uh, or what passes for air in L.A.] but I'm caught up replying to that insanity again. Ugh.
Q: Why do elephants wear sandals? A: So that they don’t sink in the sand. Q: Why do ostriches stick their head in the ground? A: They’re looking for the elephants that forgot to wear their sandals.
haha, BR
I'm a novice tweeter...is there a way to see the whole thread? I just see your responses...
I saw an elephant in the baggage claim area of an airport. He was waiting for his trunk.
Yes, Jellen. Just click on one of my tweets and in the right column, you will see what I'm responding to.
And responses.
*giggles*
Okay...
I have te8 x2 and tr8. what do the other 8's start with pls?
94 left. no list, good for me in a grid this big
just found si8
What's just made me laugh: being called an "undeducated soulless moron" by someone who apparently has no post-secondary education to speak of and is totally un/mis/informed about what she's attempting to argue with me about. Amusing.
Noswaith dda - evening all
Ouch. What exactly is und-educated? I'm assuming that
Ah, Neil - insults are always the last resort of the person who has lost the argument
Good for you, peri...I'm having trouble seeing anything in this grid!
Damn it! Stupid enter.
Ooh, I like that, Glant!
Hi Jellen, Peri, Neil, Boat
Haha, Glantarell... of course!
Start again. - What exactly is und-educated? I'm assuming that is her spelling?
Hello all :)
That was a typo, boatierra. Obviously. :P
No, I typed that... or should I say, mis-typed it?
guessing it's meant to be uneducated
Bummer, made her look worse ;)
Yes, of course.
Boat, it was my mistyping. I do make the odd typo now and then... like anyone.
I do it allllll the time.
I didn't copy and paste since it was only three words. I just typed it... and not too accurately.
toor
We need virtual correction fluid. :P
Or that correction tape.
I just found the OK4 - and I always though that was a word like shhep, where it was singular and plural but it seems it has a plural form
Spell check is BFF :)
Hi nelleon
sad that word didn;t work - I thought I'd missed it :-)
- is my BFF :)
Yes, boatierra... without that to catch any typos I might have made, I'd probably be out of a job!
Hi, nelleon
BFF???
BFF - Best Friends Forever
"Best friend forever."
aaah - thanlks
Generally when I post anything online I put it through Spell check. My more lengthy entries on chat here I do as well. The shorter entries I don't, but of course those are the ones that come back to bite me in the ass spelling-wise. I hate misspelling and I’m the worst speller.
Oh I don't ever bother using it unless I'm writing an article I need to submit [professionally].
I usually catch typos as I make them... it just feels wrong when I'm typing. But not always.
;-) I'm a great speller but a lousy typist so I get random letters in all sorts of places... and my keyboard misses letters sometimes to add to the fun
OMGosh, thunder!!!
I'm an excellent speller and typist, usually... but no one's perfect, especially not in the typing department.
Sorry, distraction. You are a lot less spelling tolerant than I. I'm just tough on myself.
Strange how your photo doesn't change in here after you upload a different one unless you refresh this page... no matter how much of this chog goes off the page afterwards.
On the contrary, I'm very spelling intolerant... I have to be in my profession. Strange assumption to make?
Have you changed your photo?
Oh sorry, I read that wrong.
I had next to no sleep last night.
And have been busy all day since too early this morning.
I did, yes. To one of me being given a stern "talking to". That accounts for my expression.
I just kind of glaze over, haha.
I am starting to see more and more mis-spellings on websites (as opposed to blogs etc) and assume that's because it's getting easier for individuals to create their own websites and therefore not pay professionals ot do all sorts of things, includin g prrof reading of their text
Ooo, more wicked sounding thunder :):):)
Yes, Glantarell. Most people do create their own.
I have a blogspot with several older blogs reposted [from a couple of years ago, that were in my old website until a hacker took it down].
It feels very strange being called Glantarell. I is the name of my house (translation - on the banks of the Tarell river)
Well is there something you'd prefer to be called?
I'm just intolerant of mispelling in myself that's all. Didn't mean to make a assumption of you. Have you ever seen those collections of political/protest signs that are horribly misspelled? Talk about hilarious!
My given name is actually Adrienne - which is a very rare name in the UK
I see. It's nice that some houses there have names.
That's a pretty name.
French.
In Wales all the older houses have names and all the names express the location in one way or another
Adrienne is a pretty name...
I believe it's not so rare in the US
You're my first Adrienne...I have a friend named Adriana from Brazil...
My parents were going to call me Natalie but as the family name is Wood and I was born arounf=d the time Natalie Wood was becoming famous, they decided they didn;t want people to think they had named their baby after a film star
As long as you don't live in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwl lllanty Siliogogogoch, you should be ok. ;) You might need a super loooooooooooooooooooooooong plaque for your house-name then.
I used to live about 6 miles form LlanfairPG (which is what the locals call it)
Or Llanfair PG. ;)
Isn't that what they shorten it to?
I could be mistaken.
Oh yes, you did post that, haha!
There was a time when the Rocky films came out where peope used ot shout my name and I didn;t understand why..
Didn't see you had said that until after I posted.
Yes the locals shorten it to LlanfairPG
Don't blame them! I'll be some of them can't even say the full name?
I was trying to think of where I'd seen the name Adrienne, and Rebecca Romijn played a character named Adrienne on the show 'Just Shoot Me'
The long name actually describes the location peffectly
It would probably take me a lifetime to master saying it. :P
Yes, I know. I've seen the definition of it.
They can say iot and understand it - but it's a heck of a mouthful!
We have a couple of Welsh friends in a personal network online.
I think it's several mouthfuls! Unless one has a very BIG mouth perhaps? ;)
I have been taking to a school called Llanstymudwy and have been having problems getting my tongue around that all week - soem combinations are harder than others
I know how to pronounce the "Ll" part but I'm not too sure about the rest. I can say "Llanelli" correctly.
I guess it may be because I am not certain of the entire menaing of the name
[yes, I've travelled around the UK]
Oh, ok.
Ll - to pronounce - place the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth near the fornt (as close to oyur front teeth as is comfy) and kind of blow your breath ariound the dges of your tongue
It's like hiss but different!
where in UK have you been Neil?
That's difficult to do!
Oh man, it's a long list. All over.
i'm picturing all the lurking babblers sitting at their computers hissing
Hissing why, Good Enough?
Haha, GoodEnough...exactly what I was doing!
Oh yes, nm.
Haha, just saw Glant's post further down. I was elsewhere for a few minutes.
Llanstymudwy - LL an stim udd wee
Welsh is an older language than English - but there are some word which English borrowed from the Welsh - e.g wool and woolen (Welsh is Wlan, mkaes w=sense when you know W is pronounced woo)
Yes, of course it is .
I've noticed a lot of words that English borrowed from Welsh, when I've seen Steve and Luke's postings in Welsh [two Welsh friends in our network].
Oh, just noticed my last name is in the grid two ways...
And so is my first name.
Are your Welsh friends resident in Wales or US Neil?
In London, UK.
There's no J in the grid Jellen - so tell me more...
But they go back to Wales to visit family. One of them has a home there too.
My last name is a homonym of neil's first...ne 4/4, if it counted...
Funny - I neede a Welsh speaker to delvier an education programme for me and despoute several adverts, I endded up using somebody who lives in Lindon and works in the Science Museum...
Oh yes?
gosh my typing is really bad tonight...
So we have 3 million people living in Wales, of whom about 10% speak Welsh, and I can't find one...
...who lives in Wales LOL
hi glant, just saw your post, that's kind of sad - have you contacted specialist organizations that promote Welsh language teaching - I'm sure you know all the resources
Sad, Adrienne...
Hi, JBV
hi Jellen - how's it going?

Hello everybody :-)
Hi, Soodle!
Ah Jellen :-)! (((()))) how lovely to see you! How you doing?
Sorry if I sound like Joey from Friends :-P
I'm well, thanks! Went on a lovely date last night...
Yay!!! Thats great to hear!
It was a first date. I hope there will be a second!
hi soodle, and thats great jellen!
Excellent! (I had a 'bit of date' myself last night....)
Ooh, do tell!
Hi Ivesy. Lovely to see you :-)
ty soodle, u too
Well, (and this is not a euphanism), I had a plumbing problem, and the plumber who came to sort it out asked me out! He is rather nice!
Oh, cool!
So.... whats your story, Jellen?
OOh- a plumber. Sexy.
Hi, Kaplan!
Hi! I was going to ask about the plumber but all my questions sounded too dirty.
I went to dinner with a man I've been chatting with for a week or two (met him online).
And I didn't have to pay to get my heating fixed!
My mind must be in the gutter today.
First dates can be hideous, but when they are good, they can be very good!
He's from 2 hours away, but often works in Joplin, which is 30 mins away...
Kaplan.... you are incorrigible! (Sp?)
I didn't say anything.
Jellen, is that you in the picture?
Exactly!
I'm back I think. Probably won't last long.
Yes, that's Jellen.
Yes, Kaplan...
Pretty! The plumber must be psyched!
You go!
Oh, my guy
is not the plumber...
?
He's the electrician?
Kap! Pay attention! Soodle & Plumber. Jellen & online guy!
He's in road construction...
Hi Neil :-)
Well construction worker was gonna be my next guess. Honest. :P
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Hi Soodlebum.
haha, neil
Construction is good too!
Mmmmm. Muscles.....
Tools and muscles and I'll stop right here.
Tools, muscles and waterworks......
all righteeeeeee.
Yup. I'll stop now too.
Do you think you will see him again, Jell?
No need to pursue this salacious conversation.
I think so...
So, did he fix your faucet?
Darn, Kap, I was just getting going......
Yay, Jell. Best of luck :-)
HHi all, sitting in Starbucks after dropping my son off at the Megabus in Chicago
There is nothing I can say that comes out clean.
Fourbucks!
He is on his way to Minneapolis for the weekend
You are a sad woman, Kap. A sad woman.
LOL LOL LOL
Yeah, it was more like seven for the two if us
That's ok Kaplan. Clean is overrated.
And Frank just had tea
Hi Sue!
NEW TOPIC.
Hi, Neil!
Hi, uusue!
Hello Sue.
Hi, jellen and soodle!
*Takes tape off my fingers now that the dating conversation is over*
Aww...Molly...Hi!
Hi, Molly!
oops- I'm late for dinner!
See ya later, Kap
Hey Molls :-)
Laters Kap.
Bye, kap!
See, I didn't even comment and Kap checks out as soon as I checked in. Back to lurking mode.
Yeah, have fun...
Molly, you could have rescued me.
BBL
Molls - I love your pic & your words of wisdom.
brb...need to grab something to eat...
hi, all. I called work this morning to take the day off to rest and recover from theweek, which was very hard for both my husband and me. This afternoon, I got a call from my supervisor, asking if we are okay and if there was anything he could do to help us. Amazing.
Somebody (for the life of me I can't remember who) has an absolutely hilarious piece about Blues Music in their profile. I laughed for about 10 minutes after reading it.
westford
Oh, angel, that is really nice!
Ding ding ding Neil!
Angel, why was your week so difficult? Sorry - been out of the loop recently.
my husbassnf esd hodpiyslixrf got three days, Soodle. he had a heart cath yesterday that was completely normal. his veins and arteries are wide open and functioning, according to the cardiologist.
hospitalized, I mean
Angel, you definitely need a break!
Yikes. That sure does qualify as a difficult week, Angel. I am very happy that the news is good. Best wishes to both of you.
I can't5 drive, so I did not get to go visit until yesterday, and I spent the day at the hsopital and we came hom last night, thanks to my dad, who helped us get our car home from another town where he was originally hospitalized prior to being transferred for the heart cath/my brother also helped
Thank goodness you have good family support. And, yes! you deserve a rest. (((Hugs)))
Oh, that is tough, angel. Why can't you drive? Not that I am nosy or anything.
(((Angel)))
we were both wrecks. He was worried about me, and I was worried about him. He threatened to leave AMA on wedneday night, walk to the next town to get the car and come home. I told him if he did that, Hisroshima would look like a match compared to what he would have to deal with from me.
I am legally blind, so I cannot drive.
LOL. Well - that told him in no uncertain terms!!!! Tough love was needed and given. Well done, Angel!
so, last night, I cried very hard. the reaction to all of it, landing in my lap all at one time.
Oh gosh, I hadn't realized that, angel! You are so strong!
hello, best wishes for you and husband angel
Hi, TO
Anyway time to hit the interstate, should be home in an hour or two. See you all later!

Very good idea, Angel. No harm in being prepared.
Oh my. Even here in Ireland, memorial services and tributes to the victims of 9/11 are in full swing. It must be pretty intense in the US.
i am trying to ignore them. however, there is news of possible retaliatory strikes this weekend.

Hey! I'm halfway! Amazing...didn't think I'd get there with this grid. ;)
Congrats, Champ...I'm not there yet...
Jellen! We aren't on at the same time often. How are you?
hi again, all, I am home - traffic wasn't too bad - and I have a whole 74 words! la di dah

I have 5 "k" words and do not believe there are any more.
same here!
i have 8 and feel the same way
hi all
I just got another one, but I don't believe it's a word.
hi, peri!
I have all the K words. found most by myself and the rest at morewords
Not ready to go there yet peri, but glad to know it's doable!
i have a feeling before the end of the evening i will be making multiple visits to morewords
won't make it that far. not feeling the love1
I would like to get 100 words.
100 done or left?
any particular 100?
done, and I don't care which 100.
Right now I have 83 and a headache.
i have 149 and want to read a newspaper.. it's been a long week and i have done little else but babble, cook, eat, exercise, and some email and facebook
kola
You can do it uusue. dorens, I'm with you. I'm at 147 and can't imagine there are 139 left. One more beer, and then a reevaluation is in order!
that's one of the 6 I have, tessa :-)
65 C words is just stupid!
I like this grid. got down to 83 left before I went to the list. If I had persevered I culd have ;found at least 10 more on my own
LOL Champ, I agree. I hae 52 of the C words
52? You genius! I'm at 45. Trying not to look at the list. Brb...cold brewski time...gotta go to outside fridge to get it...
i only have 29... will happily sweep up your crumbs
will gladly give 'em if I have one you need!
not a genius, just lucky today

no doubt you will peri
it's within reach peri!
:(
I meant :)
Or (: even?
I had a Rita's gelati tonight after dinner. Vanilla ice cream with black cherry ice. mmm
got 100 words. Now I need an e from the top for nbt and the 9 for nbs. Will beg for clues :-)
I still need that e too!
the e from the top is forever and poetic for forever
The 9 is co9
thx, got the e
fish! thanks peri and bzznbea
Here's the co9,60 - rust, but with a different 5th letter [vowel].
The co9 is like rust but witha different vowel
yw
Hi Bea.
Hello Neil.
got it, thx, neil and bea!
yw Sue!
E from the top -- everlasting, forever.
et7,28
thx, neil, got that one!
Or if you have that one already, maybe the et6,18 0 similar, just one letter less and ends in a vowel.
yw Sue.
ah, tried that one without the final vowel, thanks!
got the 9, ty neil and bea!
yw
yw ChampFit!
can someone please help with the second set of te7 and te8 words they are the last two te words please and thanks
Speed, change the second vowel in the previous te7 and 8
te7,28 -- te + double hooked consonant + Ir*** is a woman's name. Then plural for the te8,40.
thank you so much
tyvm!
You're welcome, speedfreak and ChampFit!
neil, you are in the grid
Yes I know, peri. I often am... but the grids never accept me. I feel so dejected.
:(
I know, isn't that just awful? :/ Geez!
I am in the grid sometimes but am either too short or else a not-very-pleasant verb :-)
when I chose the name periwinkle, I had no idea peri would be in the grid so often
Oh yeah, guess it would be.
Haha, Sue. Or there's more than one of you? ;)
28 left
I just responded to you on G+ btw, Sue.
Go, peri!
funny, I have 128 left!
My first name is in many of the grids actually.
I doubt my last name will ever be, since it's 7 letters in length. But I guess anything's possible.
My last name is a word, and it's in sometimes. Cline.
Oh yes!
Mine isn't a word.
The first part of it is a word, but not the entire name.
it's odd to see your name there. but I'll take the points!
Haha yes, no kidding!
my last name isn't a word either, but if you add an extra vowel it is :-)
Replied to you again, Sue.
likewise :-)
The first half of my surname is a word, and the last half is another name, but they have to borrow the same letter (last of the first 4, first of the last 4) to do that. That's probably confusing.
Fireworks! Fun grid. Night all.
Yes, very much so! :)
Congrats, Bea!
And have a good night.
night, bea!
Way to go Bea!!!
Ok. It's like this: _ _ _ b _ _ _. The first 4 make a word, the last 4 make a name.
Ooooh...hangman! Gimme an E!
Haha!
There is an "e" in there.
See? I'd kill it. gimme the e and SPIN THAT WHEEL!
Ok. It spun.
Actually the first 3 make a word too.
as do the first two :-)
and letters 2 through 6?
What did I land on? And where's the E go? Don't cheat me Neil!
true also, tempo!
Yes, I guess you could call that a word, Sue?
I'm not telling you that, ChampFit.
Well I would, sure... just not in here, you know?
What? Why? How? I want to make it to the lightning round!
Haha.
Email me your guesses then.
Calling Pat Sajak's hair now...reporting cheating...*ring* *ring*!
FW, now off to read for a while
Great Peri! Have a great evening!
Congrats, peri!
ty Happy Babbling
yay, peri!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Neil, technically your whole last name is a word. Defined in the dictionary.
Not enable, surely?
indeed it is - I thought it sounded familiar!
and yes, it is in Enable.
Very awesome! See you all tomorrow...am winding down big time. Good night!
night, champ!
It is, Molly? I don't remember telling you what it is?
In fact I'm sure I hadn't.
Or haven't.
I didn't realize it's a word. Weird.
You've posted pictures of you and your brother Neil.
Not in here that anyone would know that from, Molly.
I'm a unit of brightness. Well that's nice... tell that to the apparently uninformed people arguing with me earlier on my Twitter page who called me a "soulless, uneducated moron". That made me laugh.
It's the only way I would know that. Maybe you have altered you Flicker pages since I first looked at them.
I have made most of them private, yes.
Well there you go. And your first name, according to the Gaels means "champion" or "cloud". Nice combination.
Yes, not bad. Could mean worse things!
I don't have your last name in the physics babblets, neil, so it hasn't been in the grid since I've been doing them (early this year)
(unless it was in one of the grids I've missed, of course!)
You've been saving all the physics babblets?
I'm pretty sure my dad doesn't even know it's a word. Gonna tell him later.
yes, they are in my profile, neil
it's my little contribution to educational outreach :-)
Oh so they are! I never noticed before... I guess I didn't do the Jewish thing and scroll... enough. ;)
Are you adding that to the list?
Okay, what is the difference between a babblet and a word? I thought babblets were words like cwms that don't exist in regular conversation.
Or rather, a word you only see in Babble.
They just mean strange words you typically "only" find in here... of course this is never the "only" place you'll see those words.
well, the ones I put in the physics babblets list are ones that are physics terms (so I know them, or most of them) but are not used in everyday speech by people who are not physicists.
Well cwm or cwms is a Welsh word, meaning a valley, dale, gully, etc.
Yes, I guess that really wouldn't apply.
I was inspired to do this when I first returned to babble and the word "teraohm" was in the grid - people were calling it "stoopid" and a non-word, and I was looking at it and thinking, well, I know exactly what that is, and have probably used it in a sentence!
So the physics babblets list was born :-)
We have a couple of Welsh friends in our personal network on G+. It fascinates me to see the Welsh they sometimes post.
One of them has a post in Welsh there now, Sue... did you notice?
I guess that is why I was confused. Most of Sue's physics words are babblets. But some are not, like amps, radon and vector. Never mind me, I'm thinking too much, as usual.
I didn't, neil, but I have been either busy or feeling crappy for most of the past few days and haven't been keeping up very well
and I have a lot more posts on Facebook than I do on G+
well, molly, there is a gray area between words that are really babblets and ones that are in common parlance; I have decided to err on the side of being inclusive, as the physics babblets has turned into kind of an instructional project for me.
I find the term "babblet" odd. I mean none of the "babblet" words are ever ONLY found in Babble... they're legitimate words aside from this. I run into them in other puzzles and word games. It's nice how this really helps one with other word games and those help one with Babble.
I'll be playing Letterblox and see many words I've learned elsewhere... some of them picked up in here.
again, it's not exactly a precise term, neil, but there are certain unusual words that tend to appear rather often in the grids (such as "inia" and "odea") so referring to them as babblets is actually a clue
I agree Neil.
Oh sure, but I see and find all of those words in Letterblox and Word Racer, for instance... and use them in online Scrabble games too.
Oh yes, I see. There would be many "babblets" though in that case.
If I had a memorized list of babblets in my brain, cluing a word as a babblet would be helpful. Normally, it is not.
My dad would totally love this. He's a word game and puzzle nut too.
I showed it to him last weekend when everyone was here... he said "Oh no, that would soon become yet another addiction!" Ha.
Yeah, Molly. There would just be way too many "babblets" for that to be a very good clue.
I have tried to get my family interested in babble, but so far no luck. oh well. That means they can't read what I say about them here :-)
Haha! Good point, Sue. Maybe I'll rethink that.
Then if I ever want to complain about him....
I do have some details about my dad's situation in my profile, but he almost never goes online, and I posted a bunch of stuff about my son when he was having all his trouble, but never mentioned his last name (which is not the same as mine) so I figure that's probably ok.
and I sometimes post about my partner Frank but again, different last name.
Oh Sue! Read the bottom part about your neck. :(
I went ziplining in the Thai jungle last April. Check the clip I have of that in my G+ page.
I sometimes wonder about all the personal details people post about their lives on Facebook.
yeah, it's been a bummer, neil, during the last surgery (summer 2010) my vocal chords were injured and I couldn't sing for 6 months (and had to speak with a microphone, even in small groups)
Oh, I didn't know you sing?
Good evening to my fellow babblers! How is everyone?
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!
Yes, Molly... considering that no matter how 'tight' you THINK your privacy settings are on FB, there is no privacy there. At all.
in choirs, neil, pretty much all my life - music is my #2 thing after physics
and hi, min!
Unlike Google+... that's why our network is all on there. That's very private if you set it that way. There are countless web pages online with scripts enabling any member of the public to view the entire contents of any "private" FB page. No thanks! I emptied mine out as soon as I learned that and will delete that account soon, once I've got everyone who will move over onto G+. Have no use for FB.
Hi mrp and Min!
No, there isn't Neil. And people seem oblivious to that. The other thing I wonder about is couples who share an email address. I'm sorry, that is just too much "sharing" for me.
I see, Sue. Must be awful not to be able to do that now, then. I'm sorry.
it's healed now, neil, but those 6 months were tough - I wasn't sure that it was ever going to come back
For me too, Molly. When I was partnered we had our own separate email accounts. I still use the same ones I've had since I was a young teen.
Like that was sooo long ago. Ages!
Oh good, Sue! I'm glad it did.
Yeah, look at Julie Andrews? Sad.
What happened to her?Haven't heard anything about her.
thanks for the clues, min!
yw
She's had problems with her throat for years and her voice isn't anything like it used to be.
I remember reading or hearing something about her having surgeries on her vocal chords... not sure what for though.
Ummm, cords even. Now neither looks right, haha!
I'm too overtired. And getting dragged out on the town tonight. Ugh. Just want to SLEEP.
she had nodules on her vocal chords and the surgery damaged them irrepably
Oh, yes... thought it was something like that.
Julie Andrews is an amazing woman. Even that, she took in stride. I love this comment from her...""I have a about six good low, low notes, and I can sing the hell out of 'Old Man River.'"
:-)
Yes, she sure is.
And she was an amazing vocalist in her time. Probably still is with what she's got.
As a singer with a range of an octave and a half, I appreciated that comment. And I can sing the hell out of "Old Man River" too. : )
Didn't know you're a singer either?
one of the songs on my player is Paul Robeson singing Old Man River - now HE can sing the hell out of it!
The things people don't tell you in their bios.
Nothing professional Neil. Community theater and chorus type things years ago. Lately, just around the house.
Doesn't matter... you still sing and it's interesting to know. You must be pretty good to have done that.
Better than me. Ok, so that doesn't take much.
[That's why I stick to playing piano... only for my own amusement.]
same here, neil!
Hello again...
hi, jellen!
I have clips of me playing in my G+ page, Sue. Go there and click the "Videos" link/tab. They're just audio with a still photo, so there's something to stare at while you listen.
will do, neil, but not now, too headachy
My best venue is my car. Forgot I had the windows open one Spring day when I was belting out Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On". The people at the red light were amused. : )
Two classical pieces and then there's a clip of me just improvising something... while I was a little high.
Well whenever you want, it's there, Sue.
Hi again, Jellen!
thx :-) will look forward to i
*it
Haha, Molly... hope they didn't all think you wanted to "get it on" with them?!
300 words... 3 hours wonder if I can do it lol
Ummm, sure. I finished in under two hours last night at flip.
this is a tough one, mel, good luck!
I'm not even half-way, mel...but I've been doing other things...
Go, Jellen, go!
although I notice that two more words will get me half way; how can I resist??
Just don't expect a miniskirt and pompoms.
they would look better on you than on me, neil! :-)
I am not a "got to finish it" person. I'm like Jellen, I pick at these things in between doing other things. If I finish, it's a bonus. But I rarely have time to finish one this big.
lol, I don't think so!
I'd much rather attend to the chat :-)
I don't do "drag" very well... as one Halloween photo you'll find of me on Flickr will show you. Of course it might have been an idea to actually shave the razor stubble off my face FIRST, don't y'think?!
And there just aren't 65 C words that I care to find.
They're easier than you think, because a lot of them are similar to each other.
I got 38 of them before I decided over half way was enough.
Oh.
I still don't believe there are 23 K words.
although I just made up another one and am now half way.
There are. They're not all that bad either.
Go, Sue, go!
It makes me dizzy when I see the stats on Lickety's page that says there was a 599 word grid.
I think I remember that one, or at least one that was over 500.
I'm not that good at this. Babble would have to be my whole life to finish a grid that big.
God I love this song so much... and especially this performance of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOj Hior0RfU
indeed, molly!
Listening now, neil.
co 7/32 the one between the 2 words for eye parts please
Here comes the helicopter -- second time today Everybody scatters and hopes it goes away How many kids they've murdered only God can say If I had a rocket launcher...I'd make somebody pay. I don't believe in guarded borders and I don't believe in hate I don't believe in generals or their stinking torture states And when I talk with the survivors of things too sickening to relate If I had a rocket launcher...I would retaliate On the Rio Lacantun one hundred thousand wait To fall down from starvation -- or some less humane fate. Cry for Guatemala, with a corpse in every gate If I had a rocket launcher...I would not hesitate I want to raise every voice -- at least I've got to try. Every time I think about it water rises to my eyes. Situation desperate echoes of the victims cry If I had a rocket launcher...some sonofabitch would die
adjectival form, mel
Having to do with the eye part, mel...
thank you got it
and thanks for all three words, mel!
Ummm, hoping no part of Bruce Cockburn's lyric there sends me to the PB.
And just for the record, all you "non Bruce Cockburn" fans...it's pronounced "Coe-burn". My husband and I had a running joke about that.
I'm very aware of that... have been since I was a young kid.
Haha! I shared that clip with Laura earlier...
What's the joke?
...and she said "What a name!"
Until I told her that, she thought it was pronounced the way it looks. That would be pretty painful.
[doesn't even wanna think about it]
Hi godthaab! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
Note to self: never cook in the nude and stand too close to the flame.
The joke was kind of a "you say to-mah-to" and I say "to-may-to" kind of thing. My husband and I did that a lot because he was French Canadian. He said tres bein, I said tray bean. : P
Haha!
"Tray bean" is right up there with "murky buckets".
If you're gonna murder French, do it well.
afternoon :)
Hi again, mrp. :)
Hello mrpresident! How are you doing?Welcome to grid
hi, mrp!
It all started with the fact that the French refuse to differentiate Daniel and Danielle. Or Gabriel and Gabrielle.
Hi, mrp and all I've missed...
We have a very good friend named Danielle... she grew up with us, living next door.
Hello Jellen! How are you?How was your date last night
how do I get rid of a teenage friend of my daughter?? *ripping pillow with teeth*
Uh, not much Jellen. Just don't scroll down too far.
I just find it odd that boys named Daniel are called Danielle in a French accent.
Play Roger Whittaker songs... LOUDLY.
girl friend, or guy friend, mrp?
If you mean how to get them out of your house?
girlfriend... and not a good influence or friend at that
Or tell them you need everyone present to assist with the housework. They'll be gone in no time flat.
oh, that's a good idea! Ask for help with the dishes.
you deserve it anyway!
brb
Dishes? Why stop there? Laundry, ironing, vacuuming, dusting, mopping... go nuts.
or do you have a bandage that needs changing? that should get rid of her quickly
more so, out of her life!
Even I do my dishes... here's the proof: http://tinyurl.com/NL-SC-Dishes
that is tougher, mrp - if you push it your daughter is likely to rebel
Move?
FAR away?
Of course I'm kidding... know that isn't practical.
oh she is over this girlfriend... realised today that she isn't being a friend... but this one won't go away lightly
Oh, so your daughter doesn't want anything more to do with this girl?
ah, well, that is good, mrp! my son wasn't so lucky, and you know how THAT turned out :-(
What do you mean, Sue?
i know sue... and this could head that way with this girl.
she is so promiscuous, it is frightening my daughter and her friends!
long story, neil, I can write you privately
Oh Sue... just seen the part of your bio about your brother and sister. :( So sorry you had to go through that!
Sure Sue, if you want.
Yikes, mrp.
You and your dad, Sue... what an awful loss. :(
mrp, your house, your rules. she doesn't like it she can find the door
thanks dawg... will apply that one immediately
Well yeah, that goes without saying.
well, for some people it does have to be said, and repeatedly and loudly.
Hi lbdawger! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
ah, thanks, neil, all that was a long time ago (my mom in 1973, my brother in 1982, my sister in 2001) although it never really goes away
hi min, i'm sleepy. how are you?
And btw, Molly... I don't pronounce "Daniel" like "Danielle". There's a noticeable difference.
No Sue, of course not.
Oh I meant that it's her house and her rules, lbdawger. Hey, if your daughter doesn't want anything to do with that girl anymore, she should just tell her that... sometimes you have to be blunt and direct. Some people can't take hints.
evening
Evening, Jes.
hi jes
You should see the "fun" I've had, Jes.
how goes the battle?
well that sounds ominous, neil
All because I believe vaccines that prevent diseases like HPV are a good idea and some people think it's better to let their kids contract that, than "risk" having a preventative vaccine. *facepalm*
girls can be quite devious and malevalent when scorned by a peer, espcially young teenagers.
yah? did i tell you about people declining to vaccinate puppies because of autism?
they didn't want their puppies to get autism? ???
Sure, lbdawger. But you just can't go through life allowing your fear of what someone you dislike and don't want in your life might do if you cut them out. Sometimes you need to do just that, for the sake of your own sanity.
OMG. Jes? I
Woops. Hit "Enter" accidentally.
i agree, Neil. but as a teenager, you don't think like that. ergo, mom to the rescue...kick the b***h out.
I've had some woman on Twitter trying to tell me a vaccine caused her son's autism. She fully believes this, even though it was most likely the timing of the two was just a coincidence.
Oh sure, lbdawger. That gets the non-friend out of the house at least, anyway.
right. despite the fact that 1: vaccines don't cause autism, 2: dogs don't get autism anyway, 3: even if MMR vaccines DID cause autism, we don't give that vaccine to dogs, 4: autism isn't fatal, 5: parvo and distemper ARE often fatal, 6: parvo and distemper vaccines are quite effective.
much easier to "blame" parental control over common sense.
Exactly. Jes, you should read all the tweets between us... her, me and some other equally ignorant and grossly misinformed parents who were attacking me for my opinions.
tr 8/40 please
that's just plain scary, Jes
Hello jesdraggon! How are you? Welcome to the grid.
165 to go!
I'm sleepy too lbdawger. Sorry for the delayed answer
can't see the forest from the tr**s + hit the **** with a hammer
And get this... one of them, who clearly has no education and common sense to speak of, called ME "an uneducated, soulless moron". Uh, what was my double major in Political Science and Journalism at UCSC all about then? Wasn't that an EDUCATION?
why do you bother to respond with anything except a link to research papers? or maybe to the news articles about the trouble the guy who faked that study got into, and the demonstrations of how he faked it?
Meliae,I have a story of clues in my profile if you need
what a strange word, thank you
you cannot argue logic at people like that. if they don't believe the papers, they're not gonna believe you.
take one of the double letters out and you have the tr7
No kidding.
there is a huge, fundamental failure of people in the general population to understand how vaccination works.
well, it was on the internet...it must be true! (gag)
My Twitter page is in the same name I use here. You'll really shake your head to see what they were all saying to me. I worry for their kids. A lot.
thank you Lbd =)
examples like that, where 1 specific additive in 1 specific vaccine was linked in a small study to a potential issue, and then rapidly disproved with several very large studies.
I sent you an email, neil
(((MEL)))
and then suddenly all vaccines of any type are demonized.
Well not me, because get this: I can READ. [novel concept to some of these people I'm sure]
Ok Sue.
and people who refuse to vaccinate their kids drive me nuts. I am old enough to remember (barely) what a nightmare it was before the polio vaccine was available - my mother was terrified every summer that I might get it
then i get people who think like the one below, or the people who called yesterday wanting to give their sick puppy a parvo shot--as if the vaccine is a magic cure instead of a preventative.
welp, i'm heading for the pillows. interesting topic of conversation, wish i could stay for more.
i've had people who honest to god requested that I vaccinate their small dog with cat vaccines because "he's more closely related to a cat than a dog"
sleep well, dawg!
Kids, have any opinion you want on the autism/vaccine thing. But unless you are a parent of a child vaccinated at that time, whose child ended up in the autism spectrum, you won't know why these people wonder.
Goodbye lbdawger! I will see you tomorrow in the log.
unclear on the concept, jes???
night, lbd!
people totally misunderstand how "herd/population immunity" works, and why it MATTERS that their kid is not vaccinated but is part of the population.
Oh Sue! Just read it... what a horror. :(
Jes? I've posted a link there to an article explaining just that... for all those ignoramuses.
You should see how they were speaking to me!
No, molly, i know why they wonder. i wondered for a while after the study came out. i no longer wonder, because one small study with major flaws does not outweigh dozens of studies in multiple countries involving hundreds of thousands of kids.
who here is a parent of an autistic child??
molly, one of my son's best friends has a sister who is severely autistic, and one of my nephews has Asperger's. I want as much as anyone to find the cause of, and then a cure for, autism. But there is no link between vaccines and autism; this has been shown over and over, and repeated studies are a waste of money and distract from finding the true cause.
i understand the whole "it happened at the same time, are they related?" question...but i also firmly understand that correlation is not causation.
And yes, exactly. Very few of them were on the same page as me... I think only two or three out of MANY who were tweeting me. most of them were giving me unbelievable SHIT because of my opinion that all young kids should receive that vaccine!
HPV is a rampant, widespread problem. And it's much better and easier to prevent than cure.
Yes, Jes.
just because things happen in similar time periods doesn't mean that one caused the other, or that they are even related in anyway but coincidence.
exactly, jes
an 8/45 please
No, of course not.
YES it is worth looking at correlations to determine if there is causation, but in this case, that's been thoroughly explored, and no relationship other than timing has been found.
If I have to listen to one more speech from some ignoranus telling me my son got autism from a vaccination, I will jump them!
and when my friend told me that her son got autism after his vaccination and then she 'cured' him by taking him to therapy, I nearly hit the roof!!!
I'll help you, mrp.
Yeah, I'll bet. Take a look at the battle I've been waging with these morons over the last couple of days. It will astound you.
oh, don't you know, mrp, that eating lots of cantaloupe cures autism?
some of the so-called "cures" that are being promoted for autism are truly horrific
Oh brother.
autism is more easily identifiable after a certain age... and if it happens to coincide with milestones being reached and vaccination times, so be it, but IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!
I will F*** up the next person that comes to me with a cure!! and tells me that I am a 'bad' mother for not trying it
here's an article I wrote about pseudoscience that mentions autism, among other things: http://www.niutoday.info/2011/01/18/sc ience-or-bunk-how-to-tell-the-differen ce/
just my two cents, ten cents, whatever, it's free.... especially the asswhooping they will get from me!
got a lady just last week telling me that, after I specifically told her that we do not require but do recommend vaccination (in exactly those words, repeatedly) when she brings her cat to be spayed, went over the roof at me about how much business i was going to lose because thre's a lot of scientific evidence proving that vaccination (broad sense of all vaccines for all diseases in all species from her phrasing) is bad, and that because we require it, people like her that really care about their pets are going to refuse to come to our clinic.
or as a tiny url: http://tinyurl.com/3jbbb8c
pseudoscience... pftt!
I met a woman once who lost her job at a vet clinic (very unlike yours, jes!) because she refused to do acupuncture on the animals :-(
I was not in favor of it, mrp :-)
FFS sue! that is pathetic!
never mind that she doesn't have to worry about smallpox now, because of vaccines. or that life is now much better for every farmer in africa because rinderpest has been eliminated through vaccination--just this year, even!
they can take their 'science' and put it where the sun don't shine...
if it wouldn't involve a lot of dead kittens, i'd hope for a nasty course of panleuk to run through her place.
I can't believe so many mothers would rather trust what they read in other mothers' blogs than proven medical science and doctors... who are the experts. Mind boggling.
indeed jes, vaccines have eliminated a lot of heartache and loss
neil, I won't say the doctors have got the science completely right, but they are 99% more of a positive affect than a bunch of moronic mother's groups online
You should see them all bashing me for being an "ignorant moron/idiot", etc. while they're doing just that and not trusting doctors' knowledge.
No, mrp. I don't say that either... but since I'm no expert I do defer to their education and knowledge.
you should refer them to my most excellent article :-)
They certainly know a hell of a lot more than I do or any of those women. And one of those women claims to be a nurse, too. You'd think she'd know better?
yeah, some mother's think they were born doctors as soon as their spawn falls out from between their less than intelligent twat... cause that is what they start thinking with
when she tried to tell me that I just <i>didn't know</i> about all the scientific evidence, I told her "i'm sorry, but no. You are wrong. It is actually part of my job to keep updated on this exact thing, and I have strict legal requirements about continuing education. There is NO good scientific evidence to support your opinion."
which actually kind of shut her up for a few minutes.
OMG. mrp? I said exactly that in slightly different words to them yesterday! And got told I needed a smack for saying it, haha!
like calling me ignorant in the field of my actually freaking career was somehow less insulting than telling me i was wrong or something?
I can't stand looking at that Jenny McCarthy... or whoever the hell she is... with her appearances on Oprah and the like rattling of crap.
tell them mrpresident says so
well yeah, neil. you have the wrong genital structure to be allowed to use the word twat!
I lost what respect I still had for Oprah when she had McCarthy on :-(
God! One of them said she's telling my brother I need a smack. Uh, he's going to think she's completely batshit if she does... her call. I wished her luck.
thank you sue! ditto
was that before or after the whole "the secret" thing?
more rubbish
Oprah has single handedly brought down my opinion of the human race with only about 4 hours of shite I listened to
i've never actually watched an episode of oprah...
beats me, jes, I don't watch her anyway
Not to use it that way, jes: "yeah, some mother's think they were born doctors as soon as their spawn falls out from between their less than intelligent twat" -- what I said was this: "Things I learned on twitter: moms are health experts by virtue of having shat a baby out of their womb. They know better than the doctors!"
it's all about the money, money, money with her
Ok, so maybe "shat" wasn't a good choice of word. But you know... they just made me sooo angry.
Oh, well, in that case, I totally fail to see how anybody could be offended, neil. ;)
hahaha neil!! oh boy!!
It certainly didn't feel like no 'shat' to me!!
Haha! Hey, their stupidity for following me on there in that case. My bio on my page there only warns everyone: "Ι’m аÑtÑ–vеlу trуіng tо оffеnd уоu."
and most of these women would probably have had their babies torn from their wombs to save their genitalia from 'getting all messed up for my husband'.... go FO and get a life!
Well no, I'm sure it didn't.
Really, mrp? Geez. I think episiotomies [spelling?] do heal, don't they?
I literally slapped a friend for telling me that. Her husband insisted on cesarians... total dickhead
hey.. interesting convo here. Mr P I think even more highly of you now than ever. I'm amazed at the folks who believe the autism/vaccine stuff.... almost as ignorant as the folks who don't believe in the "theory of evolution." I've done a lot of studies in my career and personal life, and while not an expert on autism, I sure know enough to go bonkers when I hear the crap that's spewed on tje subject.
thank you Dorens! And good on you... tell them all to shut the hell up and move on, raise the intelligence of themselves by keeping their mouths closed
That's awful mrp. Any surgery is a risk. And putting his wife through that just because... oh man.
i kinda have to be a bit more diplomatic than that at school though
Can't believe she goes along with it?
ok, I have finally gotten through all the email I didn't read over the past couple of days, and am feeling crappy (and it is 10 pm). so with 150 words found I am going to bed. see you all tomorrow!!
stepford wife?
yeah neil, there are sadists out there... and she did whatever he said, or else
indeed dorens
nite sue
see ya sue! enjoy your sleep :)
that's not sexual sadism, that's abuse. consent is the magical ingredient that makes sadism fun and not assault.
You know, all those women attacking me for my opinion about the vaccine were telling me they're allowed to have their own opinions and control over whether or not their kids should be "put at risk" by having them. Well I just got so fed up a few minutes ago, seeing more of those tweets that I retweeted this on my page [something a contact tweeted earlier which I just had to share on there]: "everyone's allowed to have their own opinions about whether or not to wear seatbelts. do the research and decide for yourself."
Goodbye uusue2! I will see you tomorrow in the chog.
*quietly vanishes*
Take care, Sue!
g'night, uusue :)
difference is that those kids who aren't vaccinated become a risk to others
I totally agree, jes... it sure is abuse.
well, personally, i think he is a sociopathic sadistic moron, but more about that another time. Let's just say, he is on the run
That's EXACTLY the point I've been making over and over for the last couple of days to those ignorant mothers, Dorens. Man!
who are they, where are they, and why are you involved with them?
exactly dorens. which is why washington state, with an atrocious level of unvaccinated kids in school, has had multiple whooping cough outbreaks in the past couple years.
I even told one of them very bluntly, "you are a terrible mother." She was one of those who preferred to get her "info" from fear-mongering websites than a medical doctor. I have no patience or tolerance for "parents" like that.
what is ysour involvement with these ignorant mothers, neg?
Oh, it's all because I posted my opinion that all young kids should be vaccinated for HPV.
"Neil".
They just follow me on Twitter and saw me post my opinions about the vaccine... and jumped on me for it.
another reason i don't understand or want to deal with twitter.
Unlike them, I've been doing my research and posting links to sound medical articles about the vaccine, complete with actual statistics. Think they want to actually READ any of it? Hell no.
neg are your first three letters. you seem to want to be known as negative or you wouldn't have chosen it as your name. much i don't understand
one of the problems with social media. why try to deal with ignorant masses?
They tell me I don't know what I'm talking about because I'm not a parent. But becoming a mother automatically makes them experts about vaccines? Give me a break.
his blood type is negative dorens
No, you don't understand what's behind my online monikker. Any more than I understand what's behind yours.
It's more than that, mrp.
I am A-... A by nature, - by all the crap endured
I'm a photographer. Also, it's because of some blogging I used to do... and was a joke, to do with that.
I bet, mrp. We're the same type btw.
well, unfortunately, the majority does seem to be ignorant, and not interested in facts, research or anything else. why get bothered about what you can't change?
I am mrpresident for reasons that are not cause I am male, but I am the president of mr... a place
well i tend to use fist three letters or so, makes it much easier. why be offended by first three letters if it's a name you chose yourself? and i do understand negatives in photography... don't see that as a bad thing
i know neil... negatives of pics etc... clever. it also denotes to those that don't know that you may want to pick an argument
I get called mr.p all the time... doesn't worry me.
actually, when i first read it, i took it as a statement of depression.
an 8/45 please
mrp is iconic, as is the cat in the apple pic. at this point it's just who you are
Well I've only been under siege for the last couple of days... all these mothers tweeting at me that I'm an "ignorant, uneducated soulless moron", etc. Yes, one of them who apparently has no education to speak of called me that earlier today, ha. I responded only enough to speak my peace and share the actual facts... hoping at least one of them may actually read it and LEARN something.
Mr.P, Mr. P, Mr Pres, mr. prez.... whatever... my moniker means something to someone so that is ok
Oh no, jes. Doesn't mean that [depression] at all.
thank you Dorens! I am just that!
so i've realized since, but that was my first impression.
well n, if you take a stand like that in a public forum, you do expect to draw the crazies.. why let it bother you?
And did I say I was "offended" Dorens?
any clues for the 8s and the 9?
'course my first impression was also that mrpresident was a mr.
first impressions are sometimes fleeting ;)
Yes, jes. I thought that at first too.
mel... an8 comes off the an6 before it.... add a vowel and const
Hello mkg! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle
ty got it
Very true, jes.
ok, upset, irritated, not offended. I've had a hellish day and a glass of wine. sorry, but I can't quibble about semantics.. this is babbleonia, don't expect that... you do seem to be disturbed by it... have posted many comments about it, yes?
Oh that isn't what bothers me about it... it's the willful ignorance of these mothers who them put their kids at risk instead of helping to protect them that bothers me.
ty mr pres but dont have an six.
you didn't say you were offended, neil, but your response was... terse. especially online, it's difficult to know whether to translate that as "i prefer neil, please" or "stop screwing with my name, dammit"
Ok, that's weird. I'm sorry you're apparently having such a bad day, Dorens.
Actually no, it wasn't at all. I can't help how someone else may interpret what I type though.
no body language or expressions to rely on, yeah?
That's the unfortunate part of only having typed text to go by. No one can see you or hear tone of voice, to know how it's being said.
Exactly, jes.
an+ a pine co** is a seed
And it seems to be a common tendency for many to assume the worst automatically.
Sorry I have not been sociable tonight, but I've been doing other things on internet. Now I must goto sleep
i'm the anti-bullying specialist trying to deal with the new "anti-bullying" law that is the toughest in the nation.. NY Times put it on the front page (top half) of Tuesday's paper. Today I was dealing with the bureaucratic mess and absurd "investigation" that turns me more into a policeman than a counselor, and there are now three investigations already... Have worked 9 or ten hour days all week and am treading water
Goodnight to my fellow babblers! I'll see you tomorrow
And we're heading out for a while. I may or may not be back in time for flip, depending on whether I can make my excuses, ha. ;) We shall see.
gnight min
Yes, I'd say that's a tough, stressful day, Dorens.
heh. read an opinion in the local paper about that, dorens. the author was trying to make the case that it crossed the line into making the people trying to protect kids from bullying into bullies themselves.
do you feel like a bully?
bye, neil
g'night, min
(i wasn't buying the line he was selling)
nite n. and yes, jes, it does definitely cross the line.
got that an word but it is a 7 in plural not an 8. confused.
yeah? i don't know enough about it i guess
i got an email from one of the boys who accused others today, and it seems that the obvious repercussions are hitting him hard.
care to elucidate?
ok got the an 8. ty ty
See you later, jes. And whoever else may be here... if I make it back in time. I'm overtired now, so I probably won't stay out too long. Taking my own car so I can leave when I want.
Have fun!
so how about the 9? any clues
don't have it, mkg
indeed, I had people asking why i didn't put mrspresident as my moniker
anyone have a cloe for the n word for n in the right hand column?
ty anyway jes.
co9,60... almost sounds like 'eaten away by the weather'
as in corroded? not in grid.
na5,12 is the middle n
if you mean me jes about elucidating? sorry, i could do more tomorow, but right now i'm bone-tired and just want to get these last damn 49 words.
na + it is a ***ative word indeed
yes, dorens. i don't know enough about the new policies--since you're in the middle of them, you'd probably do a better job explaining than the blokes in the local opinion page
it is a babblet to me so don't ask the meaning! LOL
sorry mr pres dont get that .
no worries, i'm patient :)
if you are artisitic, you are ***ative.
the na5 is the coating on pearls
thanks shirl and hi
na5/12? it means iridescence, like abalone shells
i am trying to be creative with my clueage... not working :((
hi all, not going to finish tonight
ty got the na now.
too tired
would love clue for the 9.
we've always taken bullying very seriously... my principal is terrific and make it real clear... if we find out about it we squash it. but this new law requires us to do certain reports at certain times that really screw up the whole process, as we're finding out.. this first week of its existence. and she is a "letter of the law" kind of person so we are doing it by the book completely. problem is that the folks who wrote the book didn't really know what they were doing
heh. i've still got 76 left. seems unlikely i'll finish
the C's and the K's are not my friend
Hello all...I met my half-way goal!
hi jellen :)
hi jellen
jellen i also have a half way goal now. no time for all of the grid.
not anyone's, mrp and hi jell
Just got off the phone with my date from last night :-)
too much paperwork never helps. but how does that turn you into a bully yourself?
any clues for the e top line of the grid? 2 words it says.
guess it was a good date!
Yes, it was very pleasant, Dorens...
et 7 = forever
nice jell. happy to hear that
ty jell got it.
jellen is that photo you? great photo of a very lovely lady
Thanks, mkg! Yes, it's me...
good to hear you're dating Jellen!
Hi, Babs
i need four more words for half way. need the nine and have only one eight, the an. any other clues welcome. weird words welcome.
just getting used to divorced status here :-( :-) mixed feelings, but very disorienting after 25 years with the same person
((Babs)) It was two years after my divorce before I felt like dating...
glad to hear your date went well Jellen
And the shoes were a success, flosey!
super
thanks Jellen...i'm a few decades beyond you, so don't know about dating again. . .and I'm happy for ((you))
wow babs, that is a long time ... **hugs**
thanks, mrp!
te8 - pl word, tr8 - wooden plant + end of your fingers
I was married 19 years, Babs...
ah.. so lots to recover from to get your balance back
thanks flosey
si6, 7, 8 mkg, you still here
yw jes
if something happened to lickety, I think I would go it alone
i'd probably fall back on booty calls and no serious relationships if something happened to bruce.
I had wanted to go our own ways for years, but was too concerned about finances etc. to make the break...so now have to deal with it anyway and now so much older...time to reinvent how i do life
mrp and jes one thing i've learned it's to try not to imagine what you'd do in a situation you've never been in, cause youve never been there and there are lots of surprises in life
I agree, Dorens...
yeah dorens, i am already surprised by life! LOL
yeah, but i've been through many break-ups, dorens. just not one with bruce. ;)
lots of inertia to get over...feeling not very productive so far
actually, the whole "we're still interested in each other and get along well" situation is the new one.
slowly does it babs
and i'm just gonna go with it as long as i can :D
:-D
FWB jes
fwb?
friends with benefits
ah. yeah, those have worked well for me in the past
i am staying out of this
should we switch topics, dorens?
oh no, not at all.. keep going. i'm dead tired and hav 32 words left and can barely type
If I try to type terror one more time, I'm going to scream! Or at least shake my fist at the screen...
ehheheheheh
great jellen, i just got here and already you jinxed me. *sigh*
Hi, stid!
hi stid :)
hey all! *waves*
hi stid!
hi stid :)
i need to pee so bad, and no one around to help
jes, I have a dumb galoot of a mutt-dog and his owner is a doofus. *points at self* MUST get one of them new-fangled electric hidden fences for the critter ASAP.
give me 10 minutes, whilst I figure this all out
oh no, mrp! can you page lickety or someone?
what'd the galoot get into now?
*wonders if bedpans are out of fashion*
not sure, jes -- disappeared this morning for more than an hour. I was RIGHT THERE. Looked away no more than 1 second (literally) and he ws GONE. His stomach made loud rumblies and gurgles for hours. I am watching him, but no distension, no obvious discomfort, his is drinking and eating (small amounts of food, but it's been really warm)... *sigh* so I will wonder all night long if he is okay. Skipped the football game this evening to be with him.
I suspect he is fine, but as Tom says, I "like to worry."
heh. i'd be watching for diarrhea later tonight or tomorrow
oh, great. *yuck face* you always know just the RIGHT thing to say... maybe I will skip making brownies for tonight.
heh. sorry. but if you're watching, you can hustle him out before the mess is in your livingroom
true that! so far, he's not acting like he'll need it, but at least the carpeting in the house (this time of year) can be tossed in the washing machine if necessary.
hope you are all well on the other side of the mountains? it's unseasonably warm here. not that I am complaining, but it's unusual.
that's nice :) i have ripped the carpet out and put in laminate in the last 3 houses i've had
was over 100 today
sun went down, and now it's down to 60
was 90s during the day and 30s at night all week.
nothing like a little temperature swing when the sun goes down!
We have laminate in our house, my allergies don't like wall-to-wall. My dream princess bedroom has wall to wall (pink) shag, of course! LOL
oh man, that's an insane swing. we got into the 40s a couple nights ago, but staying a little warmer the last two days.
okay, for NBT the N on the far right please?
na 5/12
Mother of pearl
oh. and the termites are starting to swarm. Which is a tad earlier than normal
thanks jellen
aha! two at once. perfect!
termites, what fun. we have earwigs :)
*shudder* I bleached the b-jeezes out of the wood shelves in the shed (the parts that were accessible) because of mousey doodoos... and the mold.
I don't recommend bleach unless it's really nasty. It was. REALLY nasty. tomorrow I will take a mop and have Tom move the fridge out from the wall so I can wash everything one last time. My once-a-decade deep clean down there.
when i pulled the carpet out of the trailer, i joked i was going to come down with hanta, and emphysema, and be bitten by hobo spiders all in one go
I don't like mousey doodoos... and clearly I am not as good a natural history buff or I would have cataloged the (at least) dozen different types of spiders I could identify down there.
there was carpet, then a layer of cobweb, then carpet padding, then a layer of mouse poo
sounds really familiar, jes! LOL
it was ooooold carpet
yuck. icky icky *shudder*
Eww...
and the salamander. or newt. not a lizard, it's clearly a swamp-type critter, not a dry-type critter. Very pretty deep mahogany red.
I'm getting the creepy-crawlies...
hi may i have some clues pls?
oooh, salamanders are so neat!
sure, to, if i have the words
shall I mention the bats that are out in abundance this year jellen? *innocent mama look* I am really glad to see them, actually.
hey TO -- if I can, but not even close to halfway yet
I like bats...
en 7 and en6/18
yay bats! i need to make bruce build me a bathouse :)
yes! we have one, but the kids chose where to mount it so it's in the wrong place. Needs a sunny location, not deep facing north in the woods.
different endings on the en4; one is the enzyme that breaks down en4, the other means like en4
oooh. GREAT clues, jes!
jellen, saw that you had a date. *happy friend look*
heh. it's just definitions, stid :P
Yes, stid!
bio break, back to clue more in a couple minutes :)
LOL later es
or later jes.
is that en6/18 or en6/21? i need en6/18
I have reached 100 words! A mere 186 to go. *optimistic mama look*
en + underground part of plant
that was the en 6/21
and jellen to the rescue!
I'm not getting the en 7...
hm. strange sound from the aquarium. back in a moment.
Oh, got it!
ty did not have that r04
i clued the 7/28 and 6/21; i thought you wanted the set that went together
I didn't have any of them, so thanks, jes!
welcome :)
anybody have the te6 between adolescent and vocal range?
te 6= number + to feel ill
thankee
128 left!
27 here :)
Let's concentrate on getting you to the finish line, jes...
how fishy are the oo words?
eh, i'm not too worried about finishing, jellen, happy to clue the words i have :)
No idea :-(
(if i was that worried about finishing, i'd have sat out the conversation about vaccines earlier...)
What are the stats for the oo's?
okay, turtle is okay, I think there was an air bubble in the filter.
go jes go! go jellen go!
go TO go!
oo 6/18, oo7/28
heh. i cheated and used morewords. they are not fishy at all; no dictionary definition either.
The oo's 7 is a plural of 6.
oo+ is****s are from israel
Thanks, boa and jes
to7 clue pls?
nm ty
Mine are painted, TO
wow i'm good. only had to type the first letter :)
LOL jes!
oo + to cheer for someone minus an 'l' and change the y to another vowel.
the last ke6/30?
al7/28 any or all pls?
add endings to the al5 meaning from another planet
one is a double letter ending, the other means more, or one who does.
Thanks, jes
thanks for the AL words
welcome :)
ty got all but the last one
wanna clue the 2 you have that i didn't clue? i'm missing a chunk of a's
oh, i guess the others are 7,44, not 7,28
er, not understanding, you just clued them fo rme
i thought there were 2 more al7,28, but the 7s i am missing are 7,44
I have two ke 6/30s...
and i just found those :
:)
al+citizen ****, then plural
One is a plural; the other is ke + mixed up adolescent
then same but change the central vowel out for a different vowel.
fireworks! just in time!
HALFWAY!!!! *faint*
YAY mrp! *refaint*
all that and a good rant and rave in between! fabulous stuff!~
whoo hoo! yay mrp and stid!
stid! good on ya, you only just started! and it is tough ass grid!
Hooray for mrp!
got the 3rd al7/28 clue, mrp?
I am rating this one difficult
and maybe the last 2 ke words?
same as al7 before with an o instead of e at near end
yes, it's a toughie, for sure. wouldn't be here were it not for help... EEK! I missed a tile! top center EEE please?
poetic forever, stid
ke + number 10 plus 2nd vowel
and plural it
et 7 forever
