It was an unexpected last-minute invitation to a Chinese Moon Festival party for a little adopted Chinese girl of 6. I wore an old embroidered silk jacket genuinely from China pre-WW2 and took my 1938 doll made in Shanghai plus some "magic flowers" which are paper and "bloom" when put into a glass of water -- also pre-war -- big hit with the little girl and everyone else.
And in salads.
I am very fair. I still tan easily form having worked outdoors for the last ten years.

Hmmm -- should get my photographer son to go to those sites -- he did do some photojournalism years ago and is an excellent writer, hiding his light under a bushel as they say.
The most fun assignment was spending a few days with elephant trainers in Chiang Mai, Thailand and writing about how they train them... I had to learn how to train them and I ended up covered in elephant spit, snot and bathwater when one decided to spray me, haha! But it was fun.

i read Harry Potter. Chapter 1 book 6 succinctly summarizes the first 5 books, introduces several new characters, and sets you up for the rest. That one chapter is the best she's ever written.
when they first came out i refused to read them. i thought it was stupid. then one night at college i was bored, so i checked the first book out from thelibrary.... read the whole thing in one night. the next day i went to borders and bought books 1-5 hardcover.

yesterday when i was at the mcdonalds on the way back to town i met two old married couples who were fussing at each other and we talked and laughed a while and when one of the men went back to fussing at the staff (nicely) she complained and i poo pooed it and she said i didn't have to live with him and i said no and laughed and thought what i wouldn't give to be fussing at my hubby and she didn't know when she had it good
i guess that's the thing. the fact that other people have worse problems never makes our problems actually better.
so that is my real vent for the day--i will pray for your friend and her husband and children and remember life is too short to worry about things

lol,was harsh at the time,but to be honest i miss it now,things were more elemental,you were one with nature and the changes of the seasons,hard part was working outside all day in minus 30 temps and you would come in the house to the heat of the wood stove and you had to fight to stay awake
