Well, I still prefer heat to shivering -- grew up that way and I guess it lasts a lifetime.
we have in-unit wash/dry, but the dryer takes 2-3 times as long as the washer.

i prefer cool, as i grew up stuck to my sheets and furniture and clothing thanks to the heat and humidity. The warm dry of Winter indoors was a blessing. Moving from my Mom's i swore i'd never stick to my sheets because of the weather again.

I grew up in Shanghai, which is on the same latitude as Jacksonville, Florida -- then lived in NYC and then Montreal where summers are steamy. Winters we won't compare. Here on BC's west coast temps are much cooler in summer and warmer in winter.

funny story - when I attended a large(ish) UU church in Chicago, we had a ministerial intern who was a Pagan and a lesbian - I heard her talking to one of the RE teachers (religious education, for the kids), who said "Wow! A lesbian witch*! You have to come talk to my class!" UUs can be pretty funny. (* I know Wiccan is a more correct term, but that's what she said)

i will do my best to stay on top of weather systems... but we had a storm here last year that trapped 100's of motorists on the highway just out of town for days ( made CNN even)

There are lots of smaller mountain here in the Valley of the Sun where I live that I used to climb to stay in shape and I'd see people hiking them with fully loaded packs all the time using them as training to get ready for hiking the Grand Canyon all the time.
Oh, and how long will you be there?

When on the trail at the GC (we were at the North Rim) we saw people that were doing the rim-to-rim hike.
I would love it if I had the time and money to go back to school.

crossy, I have read the technical specifications on the scanners in great detail (biological effects of radiation, and radiation in general, is something I know a lot about) - the excess radiation you get from the backscatter X-ray is about .001 of what you get from flying in the plane (because at altitude you get a lot more cosmic rays)
so if the flight is a 10 seconds too long you have already exceeded the amount of radiation you get from them

thanks for asking molly...he's doing pretty well all things considered...his last chemo is Oct 3, 4, 5...he had a CR scan and his tumor was reduced by 95% very good news...will have frull brain radiation sometime in late Oct. hope we can keep the tumor at bey for at least 6 months or more before it returns and all changes...6% of people make it 5 years...not great odds but we will take what is given us...

Molly, after just finishing jury duty, I can say that what the jury hears and what the public hears are two different things. And then the courts gives them a specific thing to decide. So I'll never ever second guess a jury again!

the SUpreme Court is not hearing the case, just deciding on a stay - if they issue the stay, then they can decide to take the case (he will still be alive)

I've been watching the Davis case and doing the Amnesty Intl letters and petitions. I've been grieving for the last 24 hours. The Guardian says the stay was issued.

After the hearing judge ruled in prosecutors' favor, the justices didn't take up the case.

I truly don't understand why the man was found guilty in the first place. The evidence was flimsy at best. And eyewitnesses have recanted their testimony.

I am not sure how much you get from the excess. It sounds like for most of it, they credit you for the kW hours, but if there is a lot of excess, they buy at wholesale, which is a lot lower than what you pay.
I suspect the rates will go up as well, although they have actually gone down for us the last couple of years. I think they are getting a good deal on all the fracked gas.
