for 3000 or so,you can get a small diesel gennie that that can sit on a concrete pad around the back of the home and power the entire house

i did refreeze the blueberries, but they had melted and refrozen with a lot of liquid mush and they are a solid block now, whereas they were individually frozen before.. i spent a lot of time doing it
crossy i'm not sure that i intend to stay in this house forever... and that kind of money might not be recouped when i sell, otherwise i would get one hooked up to my natural gas line

though i am covered for 50,000 in contents..wife and i laugh cause if this building got hit by a tornado,it would do 20,000 in improvements and i could actually replace the entire contents for around 10 grand(not counting irreplaceable pics etc) but i am even digitalizing those a bit at a time
perhaps nef..up here we lose power weekly in a rough winter,we do not rely heavily on frozen storage for that reasonb.we use lots of canned preserves ,lots of dry goods and meat and dairy is bought fresh every other day as needed.i once lost half a cow and half a pig in a freezer issue..never again

crossy, Aunty had over $1000 in foods in her frig and freezer (she had a small chest freezer); and nearly $800 in canned foods when the fire occurred. Teh food in the frig and freezer all spoiled. She had so much because I was taking food over (individual frozen pkged meals I'd made for her, etc) but she wasn't eating
Cross couldn't you just go make a Canadian Fridge?

neil; I'm just starting to understand what retirement might be; and now I've agreed to go back to work for a bit. I have mixed feelings about it right now
In the past 3+ years as nurse manager for the prenatal clinic, I didn't take a vacation but was hospitalized twice, and dealt with DH being in and out of the hospital 4 times a year ago (he had MS; & was told that a wheel chair would be his "new normal" back then. He's back walking and even started driving --just in the local area-- while I was out having my hip replaced.
I loved the job; but the work was killing me! ;-)
