hello diem
yay, fireworks - lotsa odd little words in this one!
Yay rbud..thought you left
I have 7 left..trying not to list
wtg rbud
well, I did for a few, had to warm up supper for the old man -he finally wandered in
did you have a light in the window?
haha! no, but he had an escort from his shop to the door, one of our son's buddies steered him in. He doesn't walk so good in the mud. (or anywhere else)
are you having inclement weather?
snow then rain then mud then frozen mud?
snow melted, left nice slippery mud and icy spots. :P
I pretty much called it
I have decided I hate weather
hubs has MD, legs kinda undependable at times. We have plans for a nice wide heated sidewalk from his shop to the house, in case of future wheelchair needs.
now that is a good idea
he says he'll have the most souped-up chair anyone's ever seen, and I have no doubt of that.
I like his attitude
he also has a recliner out there, hard to pry him out of his space some nights. local social center.
does he have a wood stove too?
oh, heated concrete floor! we saved up for years for that shop. plus a wall heater if it gets really cold.
reminds me of an old general store where the men sat around and solved all the world's problem
he works on motorcycles, he says soot and ashes aren't good.
I'd say not
I'll bet he's an artisan
we went that route in years past, in the smaller shop. it's mostly a storage shed now.
can he still ride?
he is good at what he does, but even wrenching is getting difficult, some days.
I really admire someone who keeps busy and doesn't sit around feeling sorry
oh, he could ride, but not legally, lost license. a little DUI.
he tears around town on his riding mower. pretty funny.
I think I like him lol
does he have a snow mobile for winter?
this is a riding mower town - sometimes there's a line of them at the bar. no golf carts, too bad.
and easy on gas too
maybe we'll all go that route pretty soon
dang hiccup
no snowmobile, he has chains on the rider!
are you out in the country?
I use the hiccup to check my mail
yes, little bitty town. I run the library a block away.
rbud, been following on lurk mode, and laughing hard! he sounds like the ideal of country man!
sounds perfect
hi mrp he sure does
oh, he's special all right. always been a unique individual.
he certainly is!! hi girls :)
mrp did you have a good Aussie Day?
hi, mrp! how's things?
yes thanks west! I forgot it was a public holiday though!! bad me!
things are great cause kids went back to school after loooooonnng summer holidays today!
I remember those days..what a relief
as much as you love them it's nice when vacation is finally over
yes, lovely! ours are both way out of school, but I remember it all so fondly
now I get that thrill when they're both off working. :D
one woman I worked with had 10 and she always had a coffee for all the mothers on first day back lol
oh, wow, 10! I'd have more than coffee!
10! oh my!
I think she did lol
maybe a bit of Bailey's irish cream in mine. :)
i think people who have over 4 kids are on prescibed meds! Just my observation
RC family and husband in the Navy..I think he was only home long enough to get her pregnant
and they didn't have a working TV
lol!
probably not
didn't even have internet in those days
a friend of mine is 3 of 8... he did not know half his siblings
I was reading a bio of Liam Clancy..his older brothers left home before he was born
so when he arrived in America he met them for the first time
wow! that is surreal sounding
they're all gone now but what amazing music they made together
My Dad's oldest and youngest sisters are 34 years apart. The oldest adopted the baby when their mother died (12 kids)
what an amazing thing to do
did the youngest grow up knowing the sister was not her natural mother?
where was your dad in the family?
Not until she was in her 20s. The other kids (her neices) found out, but we were threatened with gross bodily harm if we mentioned it. One of her older brothers thought she had been told. My Dad was in the middle age-wise.
heck - nieces.
I don't know why some people feel that it should be kept a secret..adopting a baby is one of the kindest acts
but times have changed
My Auntie thought she couldn't conceive, had been married ten years, adopted her sister, and was prgnant within six months. AThis would've been in England, back in the early 30s.
that happens quite a bit..my husband's cousin and his wife adopted a baby and their daughter was born 8 months later
so she was already pregnant before the adoption was finalized
Maybe, you give up worrying, 'cos you have your baby, and things takeoff from there.
I think that's probably true
I remember you and your sister from NZ
haven't seen you in awhile ..how have you both been?
Yes, Judith's off celebrating the rempoval of a big red santa boot - she broke her ankle, and has been hobbling for the past many weeks.
oh dear..sounds like jilli
but no ice there
I play, but generally don't have the chat on. For a while there was such animosity on the board (after NancyBoy's death) I just decided to get on with my own thing.
I know. How sad it was.
Did one of our ladies in England die> I think her name was Mitch?
yes that was FMitch..Fiona Mitchell
she was a beautiful person
Very sad.
miso
I like to think Nancy Boy and FMitch are our guardian angels now
oh bother
very delicious so**
there has been some happy news too
weddings and new babies
Mazeltov
I am very happy to see you here again Christine and hope Judith will join us again soon
I think she and my other sister play, but both avoided the chat for the same reason.
things seem better now
I like the international flavor
people are really very much alike
Except that the Brits know how to spell properly... Good morning/evening westford and Christine.
very true haz lol
I cannot believe, in this puzzle, there are twelve words beginning with D!
Haz, after 51years in US, the lines are blurring. There was a time when I pounced on words, now I think "well, could be ..."
You need to come back for a refresher course, Christine.
When I can afford an ocean trip - the thought of being cooped up in a skinny seast, for twelve hours is what keeps me from UK and NZ.
flying is just not pleasant any more
Haz, your profice icon looks like my Mother's wedding china - never referrd to as Dad's china ??
profile, even
I know. Planes may be fast but they're not all that comfortable. I'm small so leg room isn't an issue for me but husband finds it very cramped.
Really? I only have what you see in the picture - it was bought online last year when I was hoovering up vintage china items for my daughter's wedding.
It's lovely, so delicate and dainty.
I too am short, but the scoliosis makes sitting in one spot uncomfortable. 'They' tell you to walk about, but in the cheapo seats, that's not an option.
I know, walking about means getting past people and clogging up the aisle.
hey haz, christine, and westy
When we bought this house everything was left and I have 12 sets everyone different but each as beautiful as the next
Hello, grannyrose.
just 4 more sleeps.
We had few pieces left, as we were growing up, so it was reserved for the 'birthday girl', or a special occasion. Hey Grannyrose.
hello New Zealand cruise woman
haz, what sort of china is it? reason i ask, i love royal albert.
I'd have to go unpack it..I know it's from England though
I'd need to look it up, but I know it's not Royal albert. Give me two minutes....
oh sorry you were asking haz
lol, also interested in yours westy
since Downton Abbey has been on I have thoughts of getting it out
but the staff is nowhere to be found
It's Royal Doulton 'Full blown roses;
oooh
I'm interested that Downton Abbey seems to have been such a hit internationally.
before my adored grandmother died, each year she gave me $5 for my birthday. and each year i went out and purchased a different pattern in a cup, saucer and plate. then i bought sandwich and cake plates, sugar bowls, creamers all in the same pattern ( lavender rose)
The first series was very popular over here, the second series came in for a bit more criticism because of the storylines. But it looks so beautiful you kind of forgive it.
what a lovely thing to do rose
the acting is superb
haz, royal doulton also one of my favourites, but was too expensive here
we are in the midst of Season Two right now
The theory was that the writer took ages to do the first series but was under time pressure to get the second series done. The Christmas special was very good and they're about to do series three.
I am happy to hear that
and last christmas, hubby bought me a setting for 8 in a trent and dunne, plus serving plates and bowls....i never thought i would own anything so exquisite
Lovely! And do you use it or just stroke it?
westy, so looking forward to the new series of downtown abbey. both of us adored it.
haz, LOL. as it is packed away until the renovations are finished, i just look at the boxes and sigh.
I can just picture what a beautiful table you will set
rose, are you having some of the work done while you are away?
We'll all come over and celebrate it's unveiling.
and dress for dinner
I just love china as well. I can drink coffee from a mug but tea has to be in a china cup.
i think it's called cottage garden...in fact i'm sure. google it, and covet
westy, no such luck....for heavens sake, the tiles for the bathroom have been siiting in their boxes for the last 4 weeks...hopefully this cruise will restore his faith in himself. he is so set on doing everything himself.
I'm torn between congratulating him on being prepared to do the work and looking up the number of a tiler to do the work while you're away.
so am i, haz, so am i
I mean, if you got it done while he was away, he couldn't really do anything, could he? Okay, he could sulk but you'd be nearer to getting those boxes open and that china out.
i do plan on having a bathroom party when it's finished...should be interesting
ummmmm himself in a sulk is not the most pleasant experience i have had.* sigh*
I'd like to reserve a seat on the edge of the tub please
Oh well, maybe think of plan B to avoid the sulks.
consider it reserved. might mention here, that it is and old-fashioned slipper tub....and the shower can hold 4-6 bodies (not all upright)
then I'll just sit in the tub
LOL, you and who else? mrp? andree? lynxxx?
we are thinking of doing our bathroom over..has ugly grey wall paper, stained tub, cracked toilet bowl, old vanity and fluorescent lights..but the most beautiful light grey tile..I know they'll want to gut the whole thing
so long as it is finished by june...that's when i plan on the total knee replacement.
both knees rose?
westy, if you're very careful, you may be able to save some of those tiles...and use them with new ones
just the right, westy, although the left has decided to go clunk. :(
not just the tub surround but all the walls half way up
best of luck rose
what causes knees to go?
Me too - whether to do the knee or the fip .. already did the left knee, but the scoliosis has caused the right hip to splay - my doctor calls it a 'froggy hip' nice!
i found my dolphin tiles at a factory outlet, plus the plain alabaster ones with a ripple effect.
Christine that's not very nice of him
Westford, my feeling is all the years we wore high, high heels, caused us to 'walk funny' and put pressure in the wrong places/
i have no cartiledge left in my right knee, so all bone joints are bone on bone. too many hours earning my keep on my feet.
I am having sympathy pains for both of you
bbl, have to go and sort dinner
bye rose bon apetit
My neighbour's granddaughter has just started to have knee pains, so her doctor/surgeon drained the cartilage through a
nhole' twirled the stuff around, to make a slurry, then reinjected it. It re-formed, around the joints. Of course, this isn't an option if said joints ar 75 years old.
wow!!
it is amazing what they can do
how old is the girl and is she an athlete?
Sorry, off getting a cuppa - she's about 20, not overly athletic, but if early intervention saves her years of discomfort - well, I wish they'd known about this back when I was her age. I;ve had about sixty years getting used to knees that feel like crumbling walls (when you bash a nail in ??)
I know what you mean
long lag here I think it's time to leave..enjoy your tea and please come back again
Bye, westford.
*poof*
Actually, I hear ma' wee bed calling me. 'See you" tomorrow, please God.
Sleep well, Christine and nice to see you again.
I'll head off as well to get the day started properly. Bye!
At that, I'll probably lie awake, worrying about the 12 D-words ...
da
good morning, could anyone give me the first two letters and the values of the 4 6's, please?

misday
sorry
My sister here have to go happy babbling all i will be back later for my last 9
bye bye
Could I get a clue for the mi6/24, please?
mi6/24 - in the centre of, plural
hello everybody
winter has arrived!! blizzard today
... shoveled snow last night ... must shovel snow this morning ... ... such is life ...
but it is so beautiful !
thanks got it
imid
... yeah ... but you've got mountains for it to lie on ... ... I'm a big city boy ... it's only on streets and roads ... cars piling up again this morning ... idiots without snow tires and insisting on driving at the speed limit ... ... but the trees are beautiful
can anyone give me a clue for the u, please?
yes, we are on a hillside. We can't drive any place, but food will be delivered, housekeeper has done the shovelling, poor husband can just lie down
he is not doing well at all
city - ud 4/6
ty, lady!

ty lady
... my condolences ... is it more serious than failure to thrive syndrome? ...
he is getting very old and has a lot of pain in his back
meds aren't working and he won't go for an x-ray
I'm not sure I know what failure to thrive syndrome is, except in babies
... just getting old ... and tired ... and not caring anymore ... nothing to live for ... so you don't ... ... pain doesn't help any ...
...
he is certainly depressed, that's for sure
... Medicine is about the only thing I never stduied at all ... so no useful suggestions ... other than gotta find something for him to do ... and to look forward to ... but I'm sure you've already figured that out
all I can do is feed him what he likes, help him try to control the pain, keep him warm, restrict his activity. byond that, I'm not his mother
failure to thrive is weight loss, poor appetite, and inactivity.... usually multifactorial in origin as most geriatric syndromes are. Depression and pain are not part of it, and need to be treated
he won't see his doctor or get an x-ray, so there's not much I can do
he would like to do more exercise, but then his back gets much worse and pain can't be controlled
his appetite is good
didn't you have a geriatric nurse coming out at one point?
she is totally unreliable; I've been trying to get her to come to the house since September! And we are in a tiny village
go above her head! get someone else out and report her.... 4 months is a long time
Hello everyone
I guess this is the downside of moving to such an isolated place
{{lynxx}}
hi lynxx
... is there any idea of the cause of the back pain? ... exercise sounds like exactly what he needs to handle the depression ... but if it hurts "why bother" sets in ...
Sorry to read about your problems Ruby. Will his doctor come to the house?
I have an od 5 and 6, could someone tell me what the third o id, please?
he was working out on his treadmill every day but it seems to have made his back much worse
ou4.6
I've been trying to get his MD to come, but, again, he is overloaded with patients in this little place
got it thanks
ou4/6 the middle eastern instrument like a lyre
yaud
sorry, ruby... keep nagging people to come. Unfortunately the "squeaky wheel gets the grease" is true
my French squeak may be inadequate LOL
use your american squeak... that one is pretty obnoxious for most people usually ; )
nobody here speaks English
Do you drive Ruby?
use your french, but act american - lol
not, of course, all the second-guessers are saying "Why did you move there?"
now*
I drive, but not in this blizzard
hell, ruby - i saw pictures of the place, I'dd move there!
ty, kje
we still look outside every day (him, too) and say there isn't a prettier place
I have ha6, ha6, and ha7, what am I missing, please?
American medical care would be better, but our family is so spread out that they wouldn't be any help, anyway
... unfortunately ... the same one I'm missing Marc
there is absolutely NO data to support american medical care is better in that situation, in fact, we have data that shows it is worse
I think maybe you need to threaten him a bit by saying that unless he gets to the Doctor and has the xray (or whatever) he will end up being taken in an ambulance to a nursing home for old people - he has to make an effort so he can stay with you etc
I'm surprised
we are better at high dollar, expensive, extreme, extending life for a month or two at the end care.... not chronic care, we such at chronic care and pay a hell of a lot of money for it
you are probably right, lynxx. I had to threaten him to stop his outdoor activities. He even fell yesterday
oh dear
that should be suck not such
dish
sorry
ha5.14 Marc - an archaic word
... silly suggestion ... and I know that in winter lots of nasty things can happen ... but if it's not too dangerous ... why not let him fall? ... if he can get himself up ... that' s "something I can do" ... rather than being "mothered" ... ... sorry ... my mother still thinks I'm six years old and it truly bugs me
ty lynxx
he didn't even tell me about his fall 'til nighttime
last time he fell in the house, I had to call the EMT's because I couldn't get him up
old people falling can be v. nasty...my mother fell and broke her pelvis...about 4 weeks b4 she passed
that's what I'm afraid of; he has fallen a lot but not broken anything
... another silly question ... are his hips okay? ... I heard a long time ago that someone had found that a lot of falls that were thought to be breaking hips in the elderly ... were caused by the hips already being broken by stress so the person falls down
that is interesting, dose. If he would agree to an x-ray, many questions might be answered
... which would mean demand the x-rays he doesn't want ...
he uses a walking aid? or is that another thing he refuses....even a fancy walking stick
... which would require great skill ... which I don't have ...
no, he won't even hold onto the bannisters and we have a lot of stairs
we are discussing the consummate stubborn man,; he must be part chow chow
lol
I make jokes about it, but it's all very sad
u?
ud4/6 sounds like a Japanese food
ty ruby
Polish word for butt is in here lol
Last ha is ha5/14
Sigh..I don't know what to suggest as I don't know how the French assess the elderly or what services may be available for you Ruby. Although you are healthy I realise you are tiny and not strong which makes looking after him physically difficult
du4
I am sorry to go on and on about this, but I'm feeling a little scared at the moment
... Hold the banister! ... I had elderly relatives ... how climbed the stairs every night to bed ... until one was holding something instead of the bannister ... missed a step ... fell and took his wife down the stairs with him ... ... she died on the last bounce ... and he died of guilt ... (they were 90) ... ... even I hold the bannister at night rather than trip over a cat
at least I organized the food and the snow shovelling
du4 - responsibility.... I did my du4
or groups of two also
but I think dupa is funnier
oh Dosef - how awful
I tried that too ruby
... It was really sad ... ... but while it may not be manly to hold the bannister ... it is also not manly to do stupid things ... so tell him to hold the bannister ... and to get a damned x-ray ... last word ... tell him" to do things" ... not to "not do things" ...
clue for the mi 6/27 please
if I was bigger, I'd shake him by the shoulders! hahah
mi6 flase move
... I'm sounding way to knowledgable for a know nothing ...
false
mi6 - an accident
got it thank you,it was soooo easy i could`nt see it der!
reading back on the elderly and falls.a fall is what started my father in laws decline.he slipped in the driveway, landed badly and broke his shoulder, which lead to pins and screws,a blood clot and a entire myrrad of issues and he declined from that point on.i would not let him fall as a "lesson" is there such a thing as a community care access centre available to you ?are funds available for a in home helper a few hours each day to take the load off you ruby?
he has really been in decline since the dog bits and fall 1 1/2 yrs ago. Has never really regained what he lost
bites*
do you have grab bars for the tub /toilet etc? you must hazard proof the place
please forgive me, everybody, for leaning. But I feel a little bit better
tis what we are here for:)
he has a walk-in shower and an otherwise small bathroom, so there is plenty to hold onto; he just isn't careful
yup,he has to learn to re-behave.my father in law also was a stubborn mule
and now it is time to try to catch a few z's while he is napping
{{everybody}}
ok ruby tuesday, have a good nap

Wow--quickest grid ever I think. Pity though that there wasn't a use of the 'out' prefix. Bet Lewis could have outmapped Clark, and I know our neighbor's dog can outyap most dogs.

no, Nan. No d6.
padi

I am missing 1 H word from the middle....any ideas?
... ha5/14 ...
... archaic form of to possess something
That was it! TY doseffing! You always seem to know!
... to much experience of getting the hard words from earlier clues ... then passing them on and getting all the credit
:)!
let's play again....I am missing 1 A word....
... well there are only four ... sound system and plural ... a fuss ... so I'll guess you missed spanish goodbye
The goodbye was it!
... two for two
ty doseffing for the a clues
... glad to help
1st column grey!
OK...need 1 i word and 1 o word from the right....
Go Pickles!!!!
... ou4/6?
Ding, ding, ding!!!!!! TY!
... I'll guess that you missed the one in the middle ... same start ... but ends with to perform
And you are 4/4!!!!!!! YOU ROCK!!!!
... now all I need is the long term multi million dollar contract to go along with my amazing batting average
Drawing it up now, dear....
*Gets line for multi-million dollar contract*
Only 3 to go, but I have to run. I wish you all a GREAT day! {{hugs}} to any and all who may need one today.
Molly...you don't need a contract...you have a lifetime deal!!!! {hugs}
2nd column done!
If everyone was like Car, the world would be a better place : )
I have au6 and mi6 what are the other 6s please
... second mi6
... od5/6
thank you doseffing
and now it is time for crossys quote of the day!!
By one count there are some 700 scientists with respectable academic credentials (out of a total of 480,000 U.S. earth and life scientists) who give credence to creation-science, the general theory that complex life forms did not evolve but appeared "abruptly." - Newsweek, June 29, 1987, pg. 23
... I'll bet it's a higher number at present
good news is we will all get the answer once we die.only problem is we will not be able to tell anyone:)
if it is all darwin,we are but a worm feast,if it is the other way,you are chatting with G or roasting in hell
And yet Sarah Palin has all the answers now!!
she does?? well ask her the lottery numbers for me quick!
... "The universe may .... Be as great as they say ... But it wouldn't be missed ... if it didn't exist" ... ... Piet Hein
ha ha if only!
nice quotes!
3 columns down
... and one more piece of advise from my favourite Dutch Mathematician, Poet and Resistance Fighter ... for those who are struggling ... ...
... "Put high on a hilltop ... for all to see ... the cryptic admonishment ... T.T.T. ... ... When you feel how incredibly slowly you climb ... It's good to remember ... that Things Take Time" ... ... ... ... have a good day ...
And you have a good day Doseffing, I only have to sit down at Babble to understand TTT !!
Hi Babblers, my son is hovering beside me, waiting to use the PC! So who can help me with my remaining 8 words. Let's begin with ad5,12 - anyone?
good bye focal.
i aint got it
?
my son is also hovering...
but i can switch to the tablet later:)
spanish
hovering for my computer
I always tell my son that hoovering is much more fun. . . !
Gracie mixi!
Your son is vacuuming?
No, hovering!!! I want him to hoover. .
ad 5/12 spanish goodbye
OK, how are we with ha5,14 ?
... archaic form of to possess in the past
old English for past tense of to have
focal is the biblical form of ownership
thou art brilliant diane and dose! Thanks
archaic ... much better adjective
ty dose and diane
could I have a tiny hint for mi 6,24 please?
Ye are wonderful, now im5,14 ?
plural aslindy
... mi 5/14 ... plural or third person
sort of the same thing.... in the center... and a plural
thank you
... either plural of im4
or . in the middle with a vowel
Nearly there. . . . pa5.14 ?
we'll all be speaking old English before we're done !
verily!
... oh sayst not so
how about mi 5,14 please
ink pa* + to be
mi5,14 is an old fashioned way of saying among
... in the middle ... more commonlly seen with an a in front
ah, the second one, sorry
... the second one ... to perform badly
make an error aslindy
Only 4 to go here, and I get fireworks (which my son has never seen here!!) H E L P! pa5,14 ?
... plural of pa4/6
3 to go, got your clue in the end diane, thanks!
check dianedecoder below
clued just earlier.... ink pa* + "to be"
od6,21 ? He's hovering madly!!!
poets of a sort
... plural of od5/12
plural of od 5/12
Darn, I know someone would clue that - guess what I don't have od5,12 !!! Hover hover hover. . .
... I take it as a person who believes in the quirky or unusual
go go fo
finally got that, thank you
okay think of a poem *** on a Greek Urn ...
I do believe Babble invents words!!
im5,14 and the boy gets the PC. Or the Mom gets it!!!
add vowel to the 4
... im4 ... then with a vowel ending ... then plural ending
No, the other one!
that took care of all three of them Focal....
... add the vowel ending to im4
... add the plural to im4
F I R E W O R K S!! Thanks all, from me and from the young lad who hovers! Have a good day all, catch up tomorrow. (Ross says hi to all!) Slán :)
... and now must stop hovering and commence hoovering ... bye again ...
do I see Focal lighting the fuse ???

hi hego, how are you doing. I went to the gym again today. getting used to the machines and did extra reps on some, cause I could!
Hi Haz
hi there Haz
Hello, hego and peri.
YAY! Peri
:-)

ty haz!
hello all
Haz?
I want to learn some of the other machines too and may alternate with some classes. want to look good for my bikini this summer, haha
Yes, hego?
yes, hego
You're welcome, hoyamd.
Is everyone there watching Downton Abbey?
I know others are, hego. think Molly is one
what channel is it on?
Well, it was shown during October/November over here and there was also a Christmas special. It was very popular.
i just joined a gym and am excited to get back to my former "glory" (such as it was).
PBS
oh, will look for it
I love it Haz
very popular
good for you hoyamd. I joined a gym a few weeks ago
Sunday nite Peri 9 PM
ty hego
The second series came in for more criticism because of slightly more outlandish storylines but overall it was beautiful to look at. The Christmas special was very good.
clue for the mi 6/24 please
i joined so that my sons could get a reduced rate on summer camp, so now i HAVE to go!
And somehow Maggie Smith contrived to get the best lines every single episode.
mi6/24 - pl of mi5/14... "among"
mi6 - an unfortunate occurence
I adore her in this!
maggie smith is great!
Sorry, clued the wrong mi6.
and she does have the best lines
she does wonders with them too
I think she had it written into her contract that she had to steal every scene.
looks that way
she shows those grandkids how it's done!
she's my role model. lol
I must admit that Lady Mary annoys me with her monotonous delivery. She looks wonderful but everything is in the same tone of voice.

ya 4/7 - sweet potatoes

ya4/8 and its plural (ya4/8 to rhyme with not even)
and change the last consonant of it for the 4,8.
ty new words for me
hego, how far along are you in Downton Abbey - is the second series showing?
I watched all of Season one and the first two epiodes of season two on the computer.....I like it better that way as when I miss a line, I can go back and relisten to it...
I have TIVO so I can do that on my TV
That's interesting - do you need to relisten because the accents are unusual or because of the content?
Sometimes it's the accent
It is the accent and also my own hearing problem....
or even the idioms
I have that problem with the accent, but I have a processing disorder that makes it worse. Still, English accents are easier than Boston ones for me!
Yes, there are Yorkshire and Lancashire and Scots and Irish accents.
and all of them are in that show
But I love hearing Brits speak.
There are infinite variations on the British accent, that's for sure.
same in USA
back for the last 18

Thank you all for all your clues....closing down now....nite
looking for an m4 from the lower m. i have angries, woman's name and months, what am i missing?
nm found it. firewords!
Hi all. I've just finished scanning photos for my family, planning 2 short stories and going down memory lane (with photos) on my blog.
Everyone's got fireworks now, though! Well done all.
It was an easy grid. I hate it when that happens on a day with not much to do. Beloved doesn't! Because it most likely means I'll head for the kitchen and bake nice things. LOL
I love being a 'housewife', i.e. my own boss, and a writer, but it's a state that can't continue much longer if I don't find more part-time paid work and Beloved doesn't find more full-time paid work. It may well have to flip around. However, he's younger than me and is also male,so he'll probably find work sooner than I do. I know I've put that album of 'old adverts that may shock you' on FB, but not that much has changed since then!
Not me!I am not done yet! I still have two more words
Need any clues, Min?
go min go! (halfway in about five minutes...)
No thanks! I think I will get them eventually. I'll see if I can figure them out first. I am sure they are fishes.
Thanks stidmama and hello there?Did you teach today
Stiddy! I didn't recognise you at first; your hair has got so short.
I did, Min -- and wanted to tell you how well the Amelia Bedelia books worked yesterday!!! :-)
I really enjoyed the last two days in my friend's classroom. I am still a little rough around the edges, but that school (and the one I will be at later this week) is a nurturing place for me where I can ask for help and advice. I had a great time
hey Jac. Hope you are well? I see you are looking for full-time employment as well. Hope you find something you enjoy and soon.
I'd prefer part-time, stid., but the choice may not be there.
I am well, thanks, Stid. Glad you are enjoying your teaching experience.
Most part-time work goes to foreigners now in UK.
Oh terrific stidmama,I am glad you had a good lesson.
It's quite ironic really - my daughter, a graduate in UK couldn't find a deent job here and so went off travelling and then landed in Brasov, Romania. She's just been offered at good job there but crap job here; the equivalent of £200 a month. But having that job will get her a better job back in UK eventually. Hah, bloody, hah.
brb phone
Would any of you like to do a 24 hours shift with 48 hours off and then do it again - for £200 a month?
oh man, Jac - that does NOT sound like a good idea for me... but then I am old and need my sleep!
It's a deal and makes her happy for now.
Then that is the right thing for her, to be sure. I am pleased she has something that will allow her to begin to stretch her wings.
It means she feels 'useful' again.
It's nice to have purpose.
what is second letter for the i word please?
also help on the O for NBT?
I'm too tired now. It's good she has a purpose in life again, but she does need to get rid of the b'f!
NVM pulled a peri
im - stid.
bf and gf issues are never a good thing, imho
stid - no, they are not. But what do we know? We are merely parents.
You must remember that parents know nothing about relationships, love, sex etc., Stid!
LOL yep. kids never want to learn from their parents' mistakes... *sigh* *loving look at Tom -- a decided NON-mistake*
*leaves Stid to go off and do whatever with Tom*. ;-))))
what a wonderful thing to say stidmama
LOL Jac! hey snags
down to 23 but my eyes are getting tired.
hey all
brb
stid - go to bed with Tom - it's more rewarding, even if it's only a loving cuddle.
hi all
hey jmc!
Hello jmc.
Jac, that is a good idea -- but for when my toe has healed a little bit. Right now there is NO comfortable cuddling.
personally i never used my tow cuddling but each to their own
*toe
Hi jmcnrick! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid.
hi min
meaning, if I am on the one side the hip hurts and the other side the toe hurts... *sigh* oh well. I have about 6 weeks to get better before our anniversary.
Well. I'm going to go off to cuddle my man now. If he's on his back he will be snoring AND his chest hair will make me itch if I cuddle up, but I have worked out the best bit to shave to avoid that. If he's on his side he'll probably still be snoring and grinding his teeth as well. He might also have taken all the bedclothes over to his side of the bed. That is when I need to become the dominatrix and order him to do whatever I want. he usuallly does. If he doesn't,. a few firm shoves with my midd-aged ample behind usually does the trick.
what are the stats for the U please
oh well, down to 20. I think I will go check email, and back in a little to finish.
LOL Jac! you make it sound SOOOO romantic!
haha jac sounds delightful
hope you have a very good rest of your week ((hugs))

I'd like to write a clue story but it's 4.20am and, despite being awake, I'm not sharp enough to write one now.
no problem it is a fairly tiny grid
Maybe if you lot give me a shower of word needed I can write a story including them?
hmmm well i am not listing so it would be harder
but if i were to write a story it would include so4 and pe4&5
what i need is the non-tuber ya words
I didn't list either, jmc.
and multiple p and m words
ya4/8 - y + start of the noise part of the TV
haha you rarely do, do you jac
another ya4/8 - yelp
ya4/8 an 5 plural refers to old, worn out mares from Scotland.
hi kje that got me two
ty jac
didn't know that word
mi5/14 - err
ya4/8 is another Scots version of to yell.
another mi5/14 - center + avenue or road alternative abbr
and plural that one
y conquered

hopes that makes you a rich man
that's a baguette, lol, jmc the dyslexic!
i am not dyslexic i just can't spell! haha
Rich? Ha! But I will be closer to moving into my new digs ..
not being able to spell some times helps with this game
ooooo tell me about the new digs
i for example actually cooked so** in my mostly done kitchen last night
luvya anyway, jmc -- my hubby couldn't spell either
too right -- enable can't spell either
Nice big place with a nice view and in a somewhat less crime riddled area ..
sounds like a plan
I'll put some pics up on fb shortly ..
*sigh* stidkid #1 is coming back home on Friday. I had hoped it would be a little longer... Oh well....
my boy's roommate got held up by gunpoint night before last and promptly moved back to philly so less crime ridden is good
hey tor. glad you are moving.
where was he stiddy?
hi stid -- I guess kid#1 isn't quite ready to move out yet -- still needs you all?
a view is so important, I think, having none myself.
he is staying with a friend, jmc. He needs to be more independent. Things are a lot less awful when there is only one of them here.
hey jill.
i always have a point of view
i bet stiddy--personally i am happy with my empty nest
hi mab
less crime is even more important than a view
that's true. safety is good.
he only needs us because he is not currently able to earn even a sub-living wage, jill... *sigh*
thats what so** kitchens are for stiddy
and because I am not earning enough to supplement the cardboard box under the overpass yet...
haha my boy and i were talking and he said: I don't want my mother to eat cat food and I said I can eat much more cheaply than that!
kid hasn't been interested in finding out how much it costs to live independently, but I can tell you that he doesn't even earn enough to pay for two decent meals a day at the moment.
is your son going to college, stid?
I tried cat food once (I was 10) -- haven't needed to try it since! LOL
I agree jmc. cat food is expensive.
no mab, is on restricted admission to the community college after being suspended for grades. At least they are giving him another chance, but highly structured and only a few credits a quarter.
ty mab my point exactly
he will work his way through it eventually stiddu
that's worrisome. in this economy he needs to apply himself.
yes jmc, that is our hope... and precisely, mab. that, and that he is very disrespectful toward us and dismissive of our home -- he dreams big, but lacks knowledge to know what is reasonable.
That last is an unfortunate family trait. Took my brother 4 decades and more to become comfortable with accepting reality and moving forward from what IS rather than what "ought" to be.
i have m6 m6 and o6 what is the last 6 please
It makes for very angry people, this dis-satisfaction with life as it is lived.
i still dream of what ought to be but live with what is
I met a young man recently whose plan is to play soccer for France. That's is whole plan. He presently plays soccer for no one.
au 6
I only have mi 6/27 jmc...
thanks Lisa!
ty lisa
oh of course! duh!
au 6~think musical or radio....what is a clue for the o6?
yes mab, I am not sure where the disconnect comes in, but I think it has something to do with too much leisure time, the way "life" is portrayed in the media, and a lack of meaningful employment for young people in general
oh! thanks for the A 6
a people who practice od?
i have no o's...
thanks jmc
od5 & 6
