lol I was thinking just that myself, hurshy
LOL
so une i just read an article from the wall street journal about why french parents are superior to american parents. :)
it's been on NPR a lot -- someone wrote a book about it --
I am reading Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother about the superiority of Asian mothers.
i'm much more convinced by the french than the asian
radio interview yesterday was tres interesting -- basically pointing out cultural differences re child rearing around the world
since the asian model is about producing high achievement in certain areas, while the french is about producing independence, self-sufficiency, and maintaining life for adults as not totally oriented around the kids.
one thing I like about the French is that they don't plan every aspect of their lives around their children
if i were to decide to have a child i would HAVE to do it the french way, i could never handle the modern american way.
ditto
This particular Asian mother planned her life around her children's achievements
my husband was born in france and lived there until he was 12, though his parents were american, but i guess they kind of adopted the french parenting style
interesting NPR segment about her as well, a while back, Annie
With an 11 year old and a 13 year old and knowing what I know now, there are MANY things I would do different
and yes, I listen to NPR while transporting rescue dogs LOL!!
and I totally agree with the French!
I must be on my way, bye dear babblers
it's funny though, i had taken roughly the same lesson already from a house episode where a mobster told a child to stop crying. the kid did and the mobster then told house and the kid's brother "they have to believe you'll hurt them".
of course not the hurting part but the general idea of conveying authority.
Well, in a kinder, gentler way of parenting, they have to believe there will be consequences. : )
one of my favorites: many years ago, my daughter's sixth birthday party was at a local skating rink -- the mother of one of the invited little girls impressed upon me how important it was that I watch her daughter closely to be sure she didn't "get overheated" AAAGGHH!! LOL
i employ it on nieces and nephew to great effect.
of course, THAT was the little girl who fell and one of the other little girls skated over her hand!
Une, I would have invited that Mother to stay and watch her own child.
poor une
i'm sure her mom thought I was the worst mom on the planet! LOL
yeah i'm with molly
Over heated? Seriously? The poor, delicate flower.
indeed!!
and she's now grown up to be a tour manager for some bands based in Atlanta!
no longer a delicate flower!!
I bet she gets overheated doing that. : )
:-D
7 to go, but must transport aforementioned 11 year old to school.
later, mag :-)
Firewords for moi and I'm off to munch on Cheerios and blueberries . . . byeeee *poof*

yay fgor glant !!!

if you add a consonant into that one as the 5th letter you get another word and pl
10 left no list...
first time I've ever done the grid in less than an hour - and with only one clue!

and it is now time for crossy,s tidbit of the day!!
We have Thomas Jefferson to thank for mac’ n’ cheese: he brought home a macaroni-making machine in 1789 after serving as ambassador to France.

got it , ty !
by the way, i exchanged contracts on my new house yesterday - FINALLY - and paid the moneys today, and they expect the legal paperwork to be completed on firday and I ill move in on saturday
it has been a long slow haul to get to this point
it did take a while, didn't it ?
and the people i am buying form turned nasty last week, but i am finally there
what did they do ?
all sorts of stuff - the phone company cut them off a week early - not my fault - genuine mix up
i offered them a mi=obile dongle (prepaid) so they weren't inconvenienced - they said no, they'd already borowed one
oh, ok, stuff happens
then they sent me a legal claim for loss of income due to no internet
which of course has no substance but it has still cost nme in legal fees to rebut
good luck on them getting anything on that one..thats what 4 g sticks are for
also they won;t hand over the keys - I am staying with a friend less than a mile form the hosue but they insist on taking the leys to the estate agent 5 miles away rather than hand them to me
but finally, the reward is in sight
no substance at all
so they will make a 10 mile rouind trip to drop them off
and i will have to make a 10 mile round trip to collect
and parking is hideous in that town LOL
indeed glant, let them vacate how they wish and it is done.then you are done with them
yes the end is in sight, and on saturday night i will sleep in my own bed in my own home, and nobody in the world will be able to pull my strings LOL
we will do a giant babble chog house warming party;)
it's probably worth it just so you're finsished with all the hassle
Good day again. Glant; be sure to change the locks ASAP once the papers are signed. It sounds odd to me that they would do that
home sweet home indeed glant !
(I wouldn't trust them now)
yes!! new deadbolts all around, you do not know how many keys are floating around out there
yes, i am not even going to mentiomn the £30 phone bill they've run up last week, i havenm't looked to see how much they've sent this week LOL
hi cross and nef
howdy mon13
shame you can't all come in person with food and drink to share on saturday night

I just got it -
a evil witch may be called this
carified butter and plura
Thank you, thank you thank you!!!!
or a wman with a tongue hinged at both ends lol
never knew it was a type of butter though;)
and now i must leave you all for a bit,but before i go it is time for crossy,s quote of the day!!!!
One evening Mr. Rudolph Block, of New York, found himself seated at dinner alongside Mr. Percival Pollard, the distinguished critic. "Mr. Pollard," said he, "my book, _The Biography of a Dead Cow_, is published anonymously, but you can hardly be ignorant of its authorship. Yet in reviewing it you speak of it as the work of the Idiot of the Century. Do you think that fair criticism?" "I am very sorry, sir," replied the critic, amiably, "but it did not occur to me that you really might not wish the public to know who wrote it." -- Ambrose Bierce
and with 16 to go i am off,tc and happy babbling!..poink!

evening all ... need a clue for SI 5/14 please
Hi Jindigo - si5/14 - when people are trapped in, say, a castle?
... to be in a town for a long time unable to escape because of a surrounding army ...
snow moving vehicle for xmas
sorry that was sl6
ahhh - thank you both
of Leningrad
y/w Jindigo.
Marc - I wasn't sure if it was an sl or an si until I checked the values.
Good clue, OldOrangeCat/
thank you
doseffing - I'd have got it from your clue, too, if I didn't already have it.
just popped back in...thx for the battle clue!
... as long as you get it ... doesn't matter from where ...
I love all the different ways a word can be clued. What works for one person might not work for another, or it might be a 'lightbulb moment' for all.
... precisely
I am missing a 6 I have fa6, ga6, sh6, sl6, and wh6 which one am I missing, please?
be6/27, Marc.
... be6/27 ... another plural
thanks got it
finished the bs with that hint, thx jac and dose
y/w Shirlockc.
well heck, me too! Y'all are helping me big time tonight...thx!
y/w, too, Champ.
For the a's in the bottom right corner there are three of them I have the ag5 but what are the other two, please?
one is plural of what's left after a fire...
ag5/14. age5/16, as5/12.
thanks
... ag5 ... prejudice against the elderly
not agE5/16, btw.
got it!
... not really but it looks close enough
hello jacs andall
This is fun, especially after a day spent at a funeral. Having said that, the day was not short on laughs. Beloved's family, especially the menfolk, are nto short on dry humour or black humour.
Hi TO. xx
yo must betired,jacs.
i have ee4, eg4, el4, em4, what am i missing?
It may sound strange to say a day spent at a funeral was not short on laughs but here's an example of what the widower said after the newly qualified lady vicar had stumbled her way through the service. It was her very first funeral. 'She did alright, didn't she? She told me before that she was very worried about mucking it up. I told her, "Well I promise you we WON'T laugh!"'
ah4/6! Here is a story of clues. It se5/12 like a story is not needed today, however, I fe 4/7 like doing one anyway.A few years ago,I was wearing high he 5/12. I tripped and fell down. I tried to sh 5/12 myself from a glass table I was about to fall on.In doing so,I put a ga4/7 in my forehead with the tip of my shoe. When I fell,I just looked up at the ce4/5ing and saw stars. All I could do was si 4/7 at how clumsy I had been. I also wished that I was more ag 5/14. Then I sat on the so 4/7 with an ice pack, but that did not help.My hubby had to drive me, his wi4/11, to doctor's office to get some stitches. Now I am going to go watch the movie Sa4/7 Harbor. I'll be back later on to enter last word.
Shirlockc - probably em4/8.
ooj ty min but i can
not seethe sh5:/
... my record was as the lead pall bearer at my grandmother's funeral I tripped over a tree root at the grave site and almost threw the whole crowd into the grave ... ... still wake up in a cold sweat after nightmares on that one...
Good story, Min. Sounds painful, though! Hope it wasn't true.
That sh 5/12 word should end with an D. So sorry TO!
Blimey doseffing! That could have been a nightmare/comedy film.
... I've got two ... .... missing the final letter on another word for a police badge ... and plural ... and to duck away or run away from something
Just added the D to the end of that sh5/12 in profile.
... had visions of a Monty Python sketch for months
Thanks Jacula. That story was completely fabricated.
Glad to hear that, Min!
doseffing - I can imagine!
doseffing - I'm totally confused about the police badge etc.
ty min
... There used to be a cop show on TV ... I think it involved a corupt cop ... ... the badge was referred to as a shxxxd
AH!
one of my alltime farorite and should be in t v hall o f fame shows
dose - add a pluralising letter to the police badge without it's last letter for your sh6/21.
... was it on HBO? ... I didn't actually get to see it ...
sh5/12 - flinches away from, like a horse.
no,it was on usa.free station on cable
michaelchiklis waltongoggins
... I guess it just came on at a bad time ... ... picking up kids somewhere ... or watching something else
its, I meant not 'it's'. JEEZE! I'm an editor and proof reader, I should know not to put apostrophes in places where they have no business being!
a show where you rooted for the badguys and hated the good guys.
I did a small job editing job by proxy for my daughter earlier, for a job given to her by her boss at the hostel she's working at in Romania. I did that for free for her, but if he wants more substantial work doing he's going to have to pay me.
sh 5/20 pls
bigred - The Taming of the Sh5.20 (small rodent).
Though, in Shakespeare's case it was a woman. LOL
... argh ... kept looking in the wrong direction for that one ... thanks
thanks Jac
... it was a domesticated Kate as I remember
y/w big red.
is the m wordcommon?
... the bar on the Simpsons
TO - not really, but it IS my daughter's short name people seem to insist on calling her.
that bar is moe;s
TO - my daughter is called Melanie, if that helps.
...sorry ... It was Mxxs diner ... on Alice? or Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore ... ... sorry ... I'm sure I'm making it worse
wellkissmy grits!:D
... that's the line I remember
TO - no idea what 'kiss my grits' means, but did you get the clue?
yes ty
... Kiss my grits ... was a rather rude comment made by the getting old sourthern rough neck waitress whenever somebody did something which upset her
did you say there is a be6?
TO, yes there is a be6.
6/27...similar to the 4/7...add a vowel and plural
doseffing - Thanks for the explanation. Still no idea what it means, though! LOL
meanskma, jacs
tychamp
... asking anyone from the southern states ... jmc comes to mind ... ... grits is a dish which people from the south love and which most other people on the planet think is rather disgusting
it is hominy - gound corn- tastes like sand
ok, need to find these last 6.tired,just gettinghomefrom spanish class
... a truly disgusting think to have to kiss
Oh, I see. Thanks for the explantion folks.:-)
I'm southern, and I love 'em!
seet orsalty, champ?
and please ag 6?
salty please!
LOL, Champ. You stand up for what you love! Never tried 'grits' myself.
maybe even cheesy!
... yes ... lots of people do ... ... it's like pouteen in Quebec ... they love it ... the thought of cheese curds and gravy on french fries turns my stomach ... ... it all depends where you're from ...
yes, but do they not have a sandy texture?
Is it like peanut butter but corny?
more like a super creamy polenta
sorry there is no ag6,needthe other ag 6 not the lithe one
Oh, my son and daughter mentioned that cheese curds and gravy thing to me after they returned from Canada. They thought it sounded horrible but actually liked it.
... don't see an ag6 ... ... ag5 sounds like being prejudiced against the elderly ...
Champ - have to admit I've not tried polenta yet, since it looks like uncoloured playdough!
ty need 6
... just done so ask away
jacula, both are things that can be a bit bland!
Champ - playdough isn't bland, it's chock full of salt! LOL
li5pls?
... jac ... they are welcome to all that they can sneak past customs ... ... and I grew up in Quebec
Well, there's that!
I used to love making playdough for the kids at playgroup - it's lovely kneading it when it's still warm.
... usually used in medieval movies when talking about ... li5 lord ... the master to whom you owe fealty
has anyone here NOT eaten playdo ever?
... looks like a Belgiam city
TO - mediaeval lord = li5.
ty
Sorry, I go back to library paste.
... another disgusting habit I gave up in kindergarten
So tempting, with it's minty smell!
well, one doesn't always maintain bad habits.
Grits is a cereal my husband likes with salt and butter.
Hi stidg! I used to eat infant school 'glue' (flour and water mixed). I especially liked the lumps in it! I also used to eat paper. My teacher got so worried she asked my Mum to take me to the doctor. Mum did and he said I had 'pica' and that she had to give me the things in my diet that I was obviously missing.
se5/12#2 pls?
Hi Jac. Little kids just like to mouth lots of things. The kindergarteners have so many colds and it is quite explainable.
... it has to do with earthquakes
se 5/12 is like an earthquake. Unusual letter at the end.
... think of the word that they use to describe the waves
TO - se5/12 (1) verb form of the se4 before it. 2nd se5/12 - earthquake word.
stidg - that's true!
Well. Time to see the evening news. Good night all.
'Night Stidg. See you again.x
... g'night stid
... gotta go too ...g'night all
Goodnight dose.
night gmere
Take care TO.
Goodnight Jac.
'Night doseffing.
ok now confused. havese4 quake like.have se5/12adding m
missingan s5somewhere
TO - se5/14 maybe? Plural of the s + 'sense of self' word before it?
missing si5
finallyf fw
si5/14 - people trapped in a castle or a city by marauding battle hordes.
ty all
y/w, TO.
Is everyone done now?
That definition gets more exciting as the game goes on! ;)
Champ - LOL! We'll have a complete film scripted by the time the grid is done by all.:-)
:)
Can you see the young lovers parted by the battle? He's up on the city wall with his bow and arrow poised. She's down in the square hoping he won't get shot down...
He'd only confessed his love for her just hours before the si5/14 began.
ok,here is someone online dating picked for me:
Then there's the couple who've been married for many years. The wife's looking up at her brave husband (chief of the city) and her 4 sons, the youngest of which is only 11... and they're all up on the walls ready to do battle.
Blood Jac...we need some blood
TO-??? Really? Let's see!
hey, look who the online dating site matched me with
"Someone who will not except me to make all the dissions, of what we should do, I would like your input. Isn't that's what being a couple is all about. I beleive family comes first for both parties also friends, some friends are family. As your read you can see I'm not too good discribing myself. Please no mind games, just be honest, I can take no as an answer. People that know me would laught but there are times I am not much of a talker, then there are other times you may need to tell me to be quite. I grew up in a bar / night club. I was a bartender and manager. It must have been in my geans, my one Grandfather was a bootlegger."
O....M.....G.....
not much of a speller, i see
Hmmm! Yes, well. However, spelling is not the be all and end all.
jacs, do you think he meant grewupin a barN?
And bootlegging could come in handy, I guess...
No, TO, since he did say /nightclub.
he did not list his occupation, only that he did not have a 8to 5 job. does not matter, i am a yeartoo old for him. the site routinely ignorethings like that as well asthe fact that you are 700miles apart.
*si4*
No 8-5 means he has plenty of time to visit!
*guffaw*
Back at the city si5/14, the older woman clutches her 5 daughters to her side and they cluster together almost as one. An arrow tipped with burning tar sails over the city wall and pierces the youngest daughter through the heart...
Spelling is important to me!
goof lord!
..and she screams..."Please, no mind games!"
Hi
hi
Champ - spelling is important to me, too. However, my Beloved is dyslexic and can't spell for toffee. In real life he is an intelligent, warm, funny and practial (much more practical than me) man.
I get that Jacula. It is what it is.
and the mother yells, be quite!
Well done!
it is not just the spelling. and there is spell check for formal communication
Oh dear God. If that is representative of the men that are "available" I will continue to live happily single.
The father turns from his post on the city wall, distracted by the cries of his wife and youngest daughter...
but you would be absolutely amazed, jacs, at what i see
TO - I think I would not continue with the online dating route.
Hi Molly.
molly, orget it, i am too too old for nearly allof them except those with one foot in the grave
i simply do not understand this must be at least one year younger thing
"As the father turns, a dragon flies overhead and burns his head to a crisp with a whisper of fire from its jewelled mouth jaws..."
hi again all!
...and then a rumble, and a puff of air, and the putrid smell of dragon fart!"
Hi uusue.
TO, I have tried the online dating thing and nothing good has come of it for me (not to say it wouldn't turn out better for someone else!)
hi, jac!
Fireworks. See y'all at the flip.
"The dragon fart was unfortunate, since the young man on the city walls had just lit a straw torch to fire up the pot of boiling oil..."
'Nigh gapeach. Well done!
