when i had a broken foot, my favorite way to get around in the house was my desk chair on wheels- i used my crutches as oars and the one good let-- got'er done!!

Then, on Sunday...the glorious feelings of rebirth and the colors and the smells of the Easter flowers! Such joy! See! A roller coaster!

Grant's gf got him a boy budgie (Apollo) on Sunday -- late bday present to replace the late, lamented Bleu. Then we all went to the petstore and got Apollo a mate (we think -- they're young so possibly not opposite sexes?) we call Calliope...

they're nice enough little birds, but not too smart. When we have them out of the cage they have taken to jumping and dropping down right in front of Lucky. Who is fortunately not much of a hunter... LOL once their wings grow back it'll be safer. For now they are out only when Lucky is playing outside
no no no no lecture. I give them seeds, fruit, greens, pellets.
Better to switch them to a pelleted diet; birds will pick through seed mixes and eat the high-fat "candy" seeds, but leave (or toss on your floor) anything with lower fat and higher vitamins. Like giving kids a plate with a balanced meal, but all they eat are mashed potatoes and gravy
seeds should be treats only, not a major part of the diet.

for pellets, i try to avoid the brightly colored weird ones--the food coloring is there to amuse the owners, not for anything the birds need.
can't afford the fancy pellets anyway.

they'll make a mess, but have fun doing it :)

well, the pet rooster...i've still got about 7 free-range noisy birds.
I don't mind the noise (Tom does), but the mess is a bit much. Once the kid gets his room a little neater I think we'll move the cage back there again. He moved out the table the cage used to be on.

Themed learning community looks like a great way to learn at the college level. Students seem to like it alot
they do, min, and I have seen that they have really bonded - I am teaching the same group (or most of it) for a second semester now
the idea was to give them a peer group that they would identify with, to reduce dropouts - seems to have worked so far
sue, I saw something about the whole universe being photographed and collaged together -- pretty impressive, eh? "themed learning" is like the cooperative learning model that Evergreen has been using for 40 years. Small, integrated studies and groups are very supportive of both engagement and deep learning. Too bad the "trickle down" hasn't worked for K-12 yet. Except in exclusive schools. *sigh*
