i hear ya granny.. i'm sorry you're in pain
oh, what have I missed granny?
hi all
*smiling at you, hun* yes i have been blessed. but i think the lesson i had to learn, is to turn Him first, then ask others for help with prayers second.

hi jilli
to top it off, ruru, the stress is bringing on the angina again. had it at work yestereve, ICU nurse threatened to MET call me. lol
oh.. how do you not have the stress..
jeez
it's a BIG deal
Ah-ha. My M-I-L had that recently and all turned out well. Well, the improvement in the one knee now makes the pain in the other knee more noticable! I pray yours goes beautifully!
lots of bourbon, ruru, dear, lots of bourbon. lol
thanx marmar
well.. not on the day of surgery. hopefully
but not at work....interesting scenario....you just go ahead dear, recover yourself, that's the monitor, here are the leads, and here's your chart.

neil, re flosey's entry in chog, i think she's a tad muddled. not sure what she meant by it myself.
Huh?
I didn't question anything she said in here... so what do you mean?
I've been busy elsewhere [email] so whatever you're referring to is probably something I didn't see?
Oh duh. Never mind, haha.
Yep. About "tomorrow".

Phantom: matador
neil, worked until 9:30pm last night, and was back at 7:30am today. just not enough hours between shifts for knee to recover. oh, well. in less than 4 weeks it will all be history. * grin *

HOUSEWORK????? instead of babble. someone take sarah's temperature. she must be tired, sick or working for the russians. ( no offence meant)
it's a favourite line from Downton Abbey
Oh man, Rose... that must've been brutal. :(
Huh. Where did VermontMeow go?
okay, would someone please explain just where in a low-calorie diet cannoli fit in? found them on the supermarket docket after himself had been over to do the shopping. ( for those who don't know, cannoli are an italian patry filled with chocolate and vanilla custard)
if the cannoli... was cut in half... to let the calories out maybe... but really... NOT low calories.. although lower than 4000 per bite.
grandy, he thinks because his jeans are getting too big for him, he can relax....no way jose!!!!!!
You must go buy some smaller jeans... make him work harder....
like me? you mean. bought a pair of jeans in a size i haven't worn for years. nearly there, i'm proud to say!!!!
Making changes takes courage and determination.. congrats for doing both... good luck... must be off now... ta ta

Sorry about the work part. We have the drizzly rain today...good day to go back to bed!
this is a very evacuative grid.
the only "bad" part of the weekend, was not getting to spend much time with hubz. but work is better than unemployment, which was ready to run out

hiya crosshair x
howdy sarah:)
the goose is becoming a regular visitor - hi Babblers
hi alo
Good Morning Everyone! How are you today?
heartachy
good.. hope you are too, Nef.. hi hurshy
oh, sorry hursh
hello everyone
hurshy, what is the matter?
heartachy Hursh? What happened?
hi Annie
hi Aloy :)
i had such a great day yesterday with my sister, niece & nephew, at sturbridge village. the contrast of returning to normal life is painful.
howdy aloy,hursy,nef
:-)
mornin, crossy
I'm glad that you had a great day; I understand....
hi crossy
any clues for the 2 an8 plz :)
an8---rabbit ears on your TV of old
ty annie
sometimes it seems like it's not worth it to have good times
ty Annie
youre welcome crossy and hi
do not forget to latin up that t.v truner for the an8
lol,i need a tea,you said that already
and the other an8 ---add Mr. Gore
ooh, ty again Annie
I respectfully disagree, hursh. If it wasn't for the fantastic moments in life; it would be too much of a grind.
ty again aniie:) did i ever tell you that you are my favorite? :))
xxxx's
i dunno, i feel like i am going through the grind ok, and then i have a good time, and i feel SO much worse coming back to work, the meaninglessness and stupidness of it shows up so much clearer
maybe you are in the wrong line of work, hurshy?
but it provides the paycheck that allows for the good times
oh i am totally in the wrong line of work. but there isn't much i can do about it at the moment.
I also agree with Aloy
That's what I think too. Time for a job or career change?
yup, your inner self is telling you
i am working while my husband does his PhD. he will hopefully be done in 2 more years and then if he can get a job then i can have more flexibility. for now, i apply to other things that pay enough, but i don't get them, so, oh well.
ty x
.. or guiding you
trials and hard times in life are needed hurshy,as painful as they are.it is much like a sword being put to the fire and tempered again and again to strengthen its core as in life a body that has everything handed to it on a platter is a weak person and fails and the merest adversity,so too will a untempered blade shatter at its first battle..mmm..waxing poetic again..time for meds brb;)
this is true crossy but i feel like most of my life has been like that, cause of depression and other things.
lol,if i listed all of my last ten years even Job of the bible would feel sorry at times for me:)
I really hated my 2nd to the last job I had and couldn't stand it for a full year; once I decided I needed a change, my started looking around and even though I felt I wasn't qualified, I went to an interview "for interview experience" and that turned into the job I retired from.
but we must hang tough and kicl each day in the scrote and rip and tear any goodness out of it each and every day
I've always felt that if you love what you do for a living, it isn't work; and also that I could earn enough to live on. My income from my last job was just 1/3 of what I made as a nurse working in the hospital; but we had "enough" because I was happy.
but i am here by the miracle of medicine and my beloved.this is my 4th life or so and all a bonus round or encore:) this means i can do nothing wrong and every second of every day is a gift.its like having a old life sent for a rebuild and detailing and coming back all nice and new and in the shrink wrap:)
phantom: antelope
same with my s,i.l nef.she was a nurse in trauma/triage for 15 year and scaled back to be a photographer and she holds classes twice a week for new nurses
speaking of carpe diem,i best go "seize" some breakfast
carpe bfast!
I loved working in SV-ICU; did it for 34 years and when I couldn't do it anymore because of my foot injury & surgeries; I didn't know what I'd do. Ending up running a prenatal clinic was such a drastic change; but so invigorating, and I ended up loving that too. (I still volunteer and act as a consultant there; but DH is now my main nursing focus).
leone
Opps
PB for me
Nef, what is "DH"?... oh, dear hubby?
Where is Molly today? She usually puts out a breakfast buffet that is lovely.
yes, 99.9% of the time it's Dear hubby; 0.1% of the time it's less flattering. ;-)
ooh.. thunder and rain - good, we need some rain
We've had 9 inches of rain (at least) in about 2 weeks; you're welcome to it
(I'm glad this is an easier grid than yesterdays'; I feel more confident I'll finish this one)
this was a nice grid...anyone want a clue before I take off?
not me, Annie. I'm still having fun with it
(BTW) YAY, Annie!!! WTG!!!
lol, thanks, Nef and bye dear babblers
HAGD!
ok,brekkies is up,nice sweet pepper and mushroom omlettes cooked in creamery butter, toasted english muffins with apple jelly a rasher of crispy hickory smoked and maple kissed bacon and ice cold apple juice
hi again, everyone! glad to see folks are up and about! clue for the first ca6?
howdy lbd
was getting lonely
59 left :)
hi crossy!, shoulda been here around 6am babble time...
lol@ 6 a.m all of yesterday "real life" demanded to be noticed,so i crashed hard last night and slept till 08:30
glad you could sleep in! i've been up since 5am.
but for today,i can happily babble till around 12,then real life calls again;)
it is not often i sleep more than 3 hours at a time..was a real treat
what was even better was the offspring got up himself at 06:30,found his own clothes, made his own lunch and quietly wnt to school
ahh, there's hope! yay for offspring!
there is indeed he is doing 6 months of co-op at the local animal shelter and is worth 2 credits to his year end mark
but as i feared, today we pick up a new kitten to add to our other 2 rescue kitties
waves to Annie.. back.. was kicked off line , maybe the storm?
Yay for rescuing a cat!
made the mistake of brining the mrs in with me one day to pick my son up and of course she was surrounded by cute puff balls with big pleading eyes and 20 of them tried to curl into her lap all at once...i knew all hope was lost
howdy scwabby
kitty will be well loved. Hi scrabs hi aloy
hi Scrabbler!
How is everybody?
good, and you?
Hot and sweating already but it is sunny and beautiful so I am not complaining. I enjoy seeing my gardens come alive all summer.
line of t-showers here
are you growing veggies or flowers or both, Scrabs?
raining, here. *sigh*
We had hail and a wicked thunderstorm during the night.
25c-77f and rising here scwabby..hot and humid day
Tomatoes, peppers + lettuce, then flowers.
no green beans? my fave veg to grow
I planted Columbine seeds--perennial. I did so much work over the last few days--weeding, I made 4 hanging planters (sweet potato vine + coleus), planted pansies (one of my faves), and prepared a new garden plot.
nice! the joys of summer
I should do beans too. I am doing more container planting on the deck. Do deer eat green beans? I prefer to not feed the deer. They devoured 2 dozen tulips this spring.
groundhogs LOVE green beans and so do deer
scrabby, when we lived further north we used to plant 2 gardens, one tented with chicken wire for us and in the furtest corner of the lot, away from the people garden,we planted and entire garden of romaine lettuce for rabbits, deer etc
There are no groundhogs up here. I do see them in the nearby park. The raccoons are rascals too. They dig up newly planted flowers searching for bulbs to eat. And they have knocked down my hummingbird feeders a few times this past week. And they ate my unsowed sunflower seeds that sat on the icnic table.
I had a neighbor who went to the feed store, bought a huge bag of rabbit food, and made a perimeter moat around his garden, lining it with the food.. the rabbits left his garden alone
I have never seen rabbits up here either. They probably have to many predators to even have a chance.
Great idea.
The rabbits probably all left in a huff because they are jealous of your residential rabbits. : )
yesterday I was weeding, heard a commotion in the trees, looked up as a huge hawk swooped overhead, carrying a baby bird and the parents were chasing it.. Mother Nature, sigh
(((scrabs))) I am taking five minutes to play before I get my day started.
hey all
it worked for us as well, each fall it was easy to fill our deer tag for winter meat then all the rest of them were free to gorge before winter,in harsh winters i can remember us setting up feeding stations and salt licks
howdy stid!
There is a very bold raccoon that visits every evening and comes to my front deck. Last wk it was on my front steps at 5:30 pm.
howdy stidmama
Hi Stid
tadone! finito! hi stiddy!
That is nice, Crossy.
yaaa for lbd!!
congrats, dawger, wtg!!!!!
Yay Dawg!
back from fixing brkfst for hubby. (He wasn't crazy about the virtual one you served, crossy). Our gardens are totally invaded by squirrels and rabbits and who know what else. But we still plant them and get veggies to eat
hello!!!
YAY, lbd!!! WTG!!!
((ruby))
can't leave food out for wild critters here, it's called baiting. big no no
Bon jour Ruby!
hi ruby!
YAY LBD!
hey Nef and Ruby
hi Nef, hi RUBY!!
You are lucky, Nef.
Nef, what vegetables do you plant?
plant one for you, one for the animals and one for the weather
Good morning all and how many words today
167
167 today
lbd,we did not bait.they were going to eat a garden on outr property..period..it could be ours or one we made for them..and the feeding station was at the request of the MNR as the deer were starving to death 2 winters in a row and eating bark off of trees to stay alive
phantom = flannel
But the anise-flavored veggie is for real here.
hi all....clue please for ca6/21....the FIRST one please?
there is an herb in the grid that is close to that
thanks for that - have some ready to go in the kitchen! LOL
a type of oil, flask.
just read back over the chog which was fascinating!
for NBT the A on the right and the E under the L please?
it is soooo nice to see you all
aka rapeseed oil
How is Ruffino?
just bought my garden stuff: tomatoes, etc. but don't have the energy to plant anything today
e4=volcano
rabbit ears are a type of n7 stid
ruffino is "magnifique" (in the word of the vet!)
ack. thanks LBD
an7, sorry
he has stopped biting me, is getting over his "hot spot" and is enchanting
ad5.14 x2 stiddy
Molly, we plant lettuce greens, tomatoes, peppers (didn't get any of those last year, even the hot ones were eaten by critters!). Beans, radishes, etc. (Carrots are too tiny for us, gone before grown here) and squash.
and the backwards of the volcano
yaa for puppy!!
got them! :-)
ante
Rabbit ears--so soft and warm. I was kissing some earlier.
oops
Wow, there is probably a whole generation that have no idea what rabbit ears are.
sorry
true Molly
give them a kiss for me! I give my p[ups kisses, but don't know if they understand
last year i dug in the closet and showed my son an 8-track tape..should of seen his eyes
And now for the Babble proverb...where there is the wager, there is also the volcano
that is scary, molly
well, that took me a minute to connect with the rabbit ears...thinking people don't know what those long things are on a rabbit? *blush*
inscribing that in stone, molly
thanx to LBD and ALOY...:)
Every year, in the Fall, they do a list of what the coming year's graduating class has never heard of. Makes me feel old.
I would think bunnies would be offended
Scrabbs has rabbit ears in her house
and molly is just a kid!
8 bunny ears here and I love kissing them--so soft.
..I wonder if scrabs gets extra good reception on the tv
all those who have spliced tape to play tunes on a reel-to-reel tape player raise their hands..
crossy does double time in the PB
Hi ruru. Funny boy.
crossy had an amzing 16 track tape machine..was superlative in its sound reproduction
sigh..off i go
morning, ru
I did, cross... also spliced film a couple times when I helped a friend in her movie theater.
I'm looking at crossy's post ---- nada
nada to which post ruby?
aloyisius, I need more help with the N7 -- second letter maybe? count?
ta4, ruby
crossy's 16 track machine is likely in the garage with his bell bottom pants and paisley shirts too
wand then I played it made a segment with markers and then I played it made a segment with markers and then I played it to a jazz track
lol
my mistake, I corrected it to an7... sorry stid!
oh! thanks. still looking for that I guess
typo, and poor stid is searching for an n7
Aloy, are you back in Ohio?
the rabbit ears = an7/8
yes, Scrabbler.. back in the Heart of it All
scrabs are you still coming out in June to Yosemite?
There is an n7...what you jot things down on.
No, Ruru. we decided to save money and do a Pennsylvania kayaking/hiking trip.
all I can think of is analog, and there ain't no G in the grid today. more help please aloyisius -- are we talking TV or critter?

Good morning

hagd, stiddy
gm mc
and the round an7 for the uhf channels:))
hi mcurl!
It's amazing, the big ass TVs most of us watched for the very first time, compared with TVs of today.
wasn't quick enough to catch stid before she headed out to teach today---darn
mcurl! why aren't you at school??? are you okay? nobody ill, I hope? *worried mama look*
hey! i had a pair of bell bottom cords, the big collar shirt and the platform wide toed shoes:)

And you must have been quite the hot stud, Crossy!
help for am6,24 please??
I wish I still had my rose suede hot pants from ''70! and my red corduroy playform shoes
Like the train name, Erda
or even platform*
Suede?
,---likes playform better
Oh, man, Ruru, you were literally hot.
lol, molly our first colour model was this massive hunk of furniture floor model type and for the first 5 years i thought lorne greene had a bad skin condition as he was always this light shade of green
ooh, was hunting that one, ty again Molly!
*Cues up Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff" for Ruby*
Thank you, Molly!
hi ruby and
you would, ruru
and Scrabs, aloy, stid, crossy, ru
{{bichon}}
The chat log is flying now!
welcome, bichon
so nice to see everybody
I know.. am getting google babble eyes
<-- loved Donna Summers
ruby, have you seen people in France with Barbet dogs?
oh! LOL most of the schools I am in block babble...
We didn't get a color TV for a long time. I was so amazed when I watched "The Wizard Of Oz" at a friend's house and everything was in color when Dorothy walked out the front door in Oz.
don't know what that is, bichon
Aloy, how far are you from Cleveland? I have a friend in Cleveland Heights that I should visit.
we use it as a reading game
okay, good to "see" you mcurl, must get myself going, need to take the lid off the cold frame before the little tomatoes burn. *real poof*
crossy puts on his cords, his floral big collar shirt, adds a splash of english leather cologne and hits the dance floor!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DN2qImB 0sT0
wonder if there are Ken Dogs in France too
we didn't get a TV until I was 10!
bye stid!
I'll meet you there in my hot pants and platforms!
I am surprised schools block Babble. It really is very educational.
There was an article in the paper here about how they were very popular in Europe, especially France. They look like a Portuguese Water Dog
we used to get 4 channels
I'll google it later, making a note
Yes, Ru. There are. But they have no "male parts".
about 25-30 minutes, Scrabbs.. keep me posted! (-:
We got 3 channels until we got a UHF channel--PBS. We got a color TV WAY after most families.
most classify it as a "game" which is sad because it is very educational. We have to be careful though because occasionally there are words inappropriate for elementary
<---Thinks school systems blocking devices are fascist.
or "Bits" as soodle calls them
Cool, Aloy!
and it is now time for crossy,s tidbit of the day!!!!!
I know, but bits seems so...small.
We had color TV pretty soon. Dad loved to watch the BB games in color
The hyoid bone is the only bone in the human body not connected to another bone.
watch out for those male bits!!!
I can row, ca.5.12? (my dad's corny joke)
I know the hyoid bone from CSI and cop shows
where's the hyoid bone in the boddy
It is an itsy bitsy thin bone in the neck, at the base of the tongue.
yaa for scwabby!
Haha Aloy
me, too, bichon
Scrabs has an unfair advantage, she went to med school
those are very educational!
He used to say, "I don't talk so good lookin, but I do the best I am"
One of my patients just had an excision of a thyroglossal cyst and part of the hyoid bone was removed.
Not to be confused with the itsiest bitsiest stapes, in the ear.
lol the male bits or my tidbits ruby??
Oh, yes, the ear bones are wee.
I think my daughter had that when she was little, but it disappeared
in someone so young? Isn't that unusual, Scrabs?
hahah crossy, won't go into that
It was amusing on the show "Bones" when she had her baby and the sign her friends made for her homecoming party said "Welcome Stapes"
Really, bichon? It is a result of a developmental error during embryological life. My youngest sister had surgery for it.
Molly, what was the baby's name?
27c or 81f..bounced up 4 degrees in last half hour:(
We brought her to a plastic surgeon and it sounded like he wanted to dissect her neck. We just waited on it and it closed up
enjoy "Bones"
We brought her to a plastic surgeon and it sounded like he wanted to dissect her neck. We just waited on it and it closed up
The baby's name was Christine, but her friends didn't know that yet, as she didn't name her right away.
Aloy, this kid had an infected cyst so the ENT doc did more extensive surgery. I was surprised to read about it in the operative report.
ugh.. hope all is well now
Hers used to get pus filled and drain
That is puzzling, Bichon.
This was a long time ago, she's 33 now
My sis is 49 and had surgery at 2.
who had the baby on Bones? We only had a few seasons of it here
Bones did, Ruby. She and Booth finally got together. Not married yet though.
I need the middle O for NBT.
hah! that makes me happy!
Actually, Angela and Hodges got married and have a baby now too. He is so cute.
to do something a lot 0f 5

Quac Quac!
YAY, Aloyis!! WTG!!!
And I think it's nap time for me. I can barely stay awake right now in spite of 2 cups of high octane coffee. I've been up since 5AM so won't even feel guilty about this. BBL!
Good morning, all!
fort this hot day, crossy makes all the sweaty babblers out there his famouse long island iced tea(from scratch not premix) take 1/4 oz or 1 oz each of gin, rum, vodka and triple sec add to one of those tall frosted bar glasses, then 3/4 filkl the glass with pink lemonade, add a splash of coke(or pepsi),add crushed ice and garnish with lemon slice
Sounds lush, Crossy. Too much booze for me tho.
1/4 oz is the bar guide,1/2 oz is what the rest of us do and 1oz of each is party hearty
then use 1/4 oz measure
if done right, you will not taste the alcohol, only iced tea flavour
Don't like gin or rum. I'll just stick with my virgin ice tea. No sugar, no nuthin.
2 of those while waiting for the corn on the co and the sish-ka bobs on the bbq and life is good
cob
Perhaps the cabana boys will whiz up a pitcher of margaritas for us????
*Switches out Judi's boring iced tea for a frosted margarita*
i find that more like a food group instead of the drink, but hand me the tequilia and the salt and the lime wedges please
Whee! Don't forget the little umbrella, Molly!
*Umbrella with sparkly glitter on it, inserted. Drink up girl*
sigh..girly drinks...:(
how about a flaming zambuca?
Frankly, I'd rather be girly than flaming.
well,it is best(especially with my beard) to blow the flame out first
though at some bars, metal staws are offered to drink it while still on fire
* waits for ghost of Nancy Boy to chime in on flaming comment *
sigh..only in the u,s..flaming as on fire my southern friends...
anyways, time to go get our new kitty..tc alll..poink!
I say that with all fondness for our beloved NB.

Grain alcohol. 150 or 190 proof.
I knew molly would know!
I spent years behind a bar in college. : )
the frat boys at my school used to put it in a watermelon and people would eat the melon. everclear is grain alcohol? some thhing like that. moonshine.
never met a bartender I didn't like. lol
Onyx, I actually had frozen watermelon today and was remembering that very thing fondly.
yes, everclear is generally 190 proof, but there are several states that have banned the full-strength version, so they have created a "milder" (i user that term relatively) version that weighs in at a mere 151

I am good, hego! back from college reunion, it was good to see everyone
There are a handful of people here who can make me laugh until my sides hurt. Nancy Boy was one of them.
getting less busy, classes are over and retirement is coming up
sounds fun
it will always be a regret of mine that i wasnt able to meet him in person before he left us. he will always have a place in my heart, but i imagine we would have been good friends.
It was very obvious he had great affection for you too, Eva.

And man, the stories of you two, bar hopping in London would have been classic. : )
i imagine i would have been the sensible one, forcing his clothes back on him + such...heh
Well, friendships need balance you know.

indeed. I got sympathy yesterday at a bbq and I only had the smaller brace on
Peri, I'm sure if something was broken it would have shown up on the x-ray. You sit tight for a few weeks and let it heal.

we do have that oil, just me being thick! thanks molly
*Changes notes*
do they call it ca6 in UK, or do they call it rapeseed?
how ca7/32?
have heard both used. i guess it depends who you ask
ca7 holds water on a hike
thank you
am6 pls
Like the train, Peri
ty Molls, was looking in the wrong direction, again
With all the froo froo water bottles these days, I wonder if anyone but soldiers use ca7s.
po6?
I use a stainless steel water bottle
and refill it from the brita filter
Po6 is Irish moonshine
Thank God for Brita filters. I can't drink water out of the tap anymore.
po6 ends like the ca7
ty both!
*Sheds a few, wee tears that there are people here who don't know what po6 is* Sniff
I never buy water in plastic bottles. I am not convinced that it is better than some tap water
and the plastic clutters up the landfills
My son did a project in school about just how much those plastic water bottles clutter up the landfills. It was shocking.
it is indeed, but some people just do not care :(
companies should stop making it
bottled water often just is tap water, peri... but some areas have better tasting tap water than others, i guess.
I was really glad he took that environmental unit. It got him very interested in recycling and being nice to Ma Earth.
no6/18 please?
people seem to be convinced that they are getting some fancy smancy water, haha
so i just keep refilling the same plastic bottle over and over... I think i've had my current one for almost a year.
is the bottle BPA free jes?
i only buy it every now and then when i need a fresh bedroom bottle for night drinks! once it is empty i just refill it from the tap anyway!
No idea, peri.
bruce says NYC is supposed to have the best tap water, according to someone who should know.
it isn't a bottle that originally came with water in it is what I meant jes. those bottles are not meant to be refilled. at least that is my understanding
It makes me laugh and laugh that that Bling H2O stuff is 50 dollars a bottle. IT'S WATER.
it is a bottle that originally came with water in it, yes.
when did bottled water become so popular and who was the genius who decided that we needed it
I don't think you should be drinking out of it jess
but that is my opinion
Oh you know how it goes. The Eco people did a lot of tests on drinking water and convinced everyone that it had oogey stuff in it.
i have a hard time worrying that adding new water to a water bottle will leach anything out of the plastic that the water initially in it didn't.
en6/21 pls
NM
what makes me laugh is that they say it has gone through this mountainside for x amount of years then gives you a bbe date! lmao
there was a report that came out several years ago about bacteria building up in reused bottles
You do put it through the dishwasher though, don't you Jes?
and i think they say not to reuse the bottles just to make you buy more!
Evening babblers...and morning and night to all of you on different time zones.
hey red
it is true about the bacteria in water bottles, but...if you wash em, no problems.
Ooo, Red. What is your Infectious Nursie opinion on reusing plastic water bottles?
Too late. Thanks Red.
I do it often...
I need to put my stainless steel bottles in the washing machine
LOL I am a runner too....
I don't run it through the dishwasher. Periodically rinse it with salt water.
well i always reuse the water bottles and i have never been il yet
but I am stuck in the grid all of a sudden. 93 left. they are hiding...
I had a long discussion with my neighbor about washing water containers. She was of the opinion that it's "just water" and you don't have to. I asked her if she had ever heard of algae.
i need 1
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reuse_of_ water_bottles http://www.snopes.com/m edical/toxins/plasticbottles.asp
Both wiki and snopes discuss it.
I admit though I dont reuse them for long...as I usually plant them for a run and then throw them into recycling after i use it the second time.
now I need 92.
I'd reuse one once or twice, but not for an extended period of time.
I am sooo excited today, as I managed to finally get all my little video clips into power point for my friday presentation. I am now terrified they wont play.
evening All

All the best dance music comes from the early 90's and before that. The stuff that passes for dance music now is crap.
right im off to chill with a cold drink! goodbye all and good luck
My momused to say, it ain't good, but it's loud.
Night Medusa
night hego
There is no rhythm to the stuff kids dance to these days. Which is why they all kind of jump around on the dance floor.

en7 anyone?
My son and the people who run the summer camps he works with did a flash mob dance to Party Rock Anthem at the mall. It's like the old synthesizer stuff from the 80's.

g'nite all
hello anyone... I am wandering in, taking a short break before "doing" much more today.
... evening stidmama
hey tor!
... are you just back from school?
I have been home for about 40 minutes, picked up Grant from town after I was down teaching. It was a really great day, just tiring.
"mannel" the newest fiber creation: flannel for real men.
... know the feeling ... had a good afternoon myself ... two senior year calculus classes for a teacher who has really worked them
... means I got to do some teaching ... rather than babysitting
woo-hoo! what fun, doseffing, and sorry I called you tor... LOL saw red and assumed (my eyes are tired)
... been called worse ... no problems
I was teaching math this afternoon, too -- 5th graders. Putatively review, but as I wandered around the room those kids really need a lot of hand-holding still. Just reading a table with more than two rows was confusing
Heyas kids ..
THERE's TOR! rofl
... I'm sure ... up here the high school ends up splitting into two streams ... ... the so called "applied" math kids end up doing grade 5 to grade 7 stuff in their senior year of high school and often don't do it well
Just back from picking up grandbaby ..
there is something similar here, only not quite so systematic. It's called "basic skills" and they keep kids all together up through about 6th or 7th grade and then pull the ones who needed remediation years before out to do more life skills type math
grandbaby???? when did you get a grandchild, tor? *mind boggles*
She's 14 months old stid ..
I wish that kids who need remediation got it as soon as they needed it, so they didn't fall behind in the first place. There are so many kids in the classes I sub in who aren't comfortable with basic multiplication, but who are being asked to multiply or divide fractions and decimals. Or do roots. Or... *shakes teacher head sadly* it's a recipe for learning to hate the content area.
wow tor ... I know I was in the middle of student teaching back then, but gee. My brain must be full of holes to lose information like that! Congrats! *admires grandbaby*
... so many things happen in elementary school
... if you get one teacher in your elementary career who is uncomfortable with numbers ... it can be the end of your math learning
... that's what happened with my younger daughter ... grade two was great at music, art, french ... but could barely count ... and scared my daughter out of ever figuring out how to learn math
... I've discovered that in the province of Manitoba they will let people into to degree programs in education to get elementary certifications ... who took never got past fifth grade math themselves
True. I was a bubble-head today, but the kids know me and we got through the math together (I taught this stuff last year when student teaching, too). They usually seem to be at least as competent when I am done teaching as when their regular teacher finishes. Personally I always grasped math best when it was in context -- science, or history or music. Some drills and such are good, but when that's the entire focus it takes the joy out of it. I learned algebra "for real" when I took physics in high school.
... and now they wonder why the level of math learning is falling
In Washington they require a certain amount of college-level math, but to be honest those courses can be pretty "basic" too.
I took through calculus in high school, studied stats and accounting in college (and then had a brain injury that scrambled the circuits), so I know I can relearn things, I just don't remember it all automatically.
... I know it can be hard ... the high school calculus course in Ontario is called "Calculus and Vectors"
... I know it can be hard ... the high school calculus course in Ontario is called "Calculus and Vectors"
... I'm terrified I'm going to get a question about the Vectors portion because my knowledge and practice is long past the "this bread is stale so throw it out date" that I know I couldn't answer anything in class
sometimes when the math is above where my current using level is, I ask the kids to tell me what they understand. Usually, by the time they finish explaining, I have filled in the gaps for myself. Sometimes, when I am lucky, they fill in the gaps as they explain what they are thinking!
often there is another student in the class who has a firm enough grasp of the task that together we can figure it all out.
... that's exactly what you should do
*sparkles at praise*
... the only way to learn math ... is to do math ... ... so they've got to be encouraged to do it when they don't know ... ... if they see that's what you're doing ... they might get the idea that it's okay to get it wrong at first ... ... it's a phrase we don't seem to be able to use anymore ... "figure it out"
today, it was obvious (in almost all cases) that the kids were either not reading the entire math question, OR they were looking at the table incorrectly. And of course, the perennial favorite: remember to make the final conversion (ounces to pounds, or yards to feet). Of course, we are still in the dark ages and have to do the complicated "standard measurements" stuff. Next chapter they will look at the more logical metric system.
... "figuring it out" means you're going to be mistaken at first but that with time you'll get it right
... metric must be hard down there ... ... they never get to see it in their non-school lives
I often model "rethinking" for them as we work through the math! And sometimes I like to point out that one of the students came up with a different (or better) way to solve something. They love knowing that there can be more than one way to think of the work, and that their peers are demonstrating good thinking.
... if only more elementary teachers could or would do that
It is hard in some ways, but I think our grandparents never had metric at all and they did just fine. But in science they tend to use metric, so it all works out I think.
NO! there is only one right way and everyone must do it THAT WAY. And show your work. :D
... I had two good classes today ... and in both I was asked to show them how to solve a particularly difficult problem ....
... I was able to do it by a truly brute force method but I was begging them to look at it again ... there had to be a better way or more elegant way ...
I think it's easier to be honest when we don't know, or when we mis-speak, or when we just goofed up. NOT being perfect is less stressful than trying to be so.
... came up with two while waiting for the bus ... just don't have a way of getting it to them
oh, those are challenging lessons to teach -- did the kids come up with anything interesting?
isn't that always the case! I usually think of several things on my (nearly hour-long) drives home.
... didn't have time ... and had a bunch of work to do ... but one of these days someone will get there
I think, just by mentioning that there might be an easier/more elegant solution that you open the doors to creative thinking.
... that's my hope ... fingers are crossed
tor is teaching his grandbaby how to do advanced math... "where did the teddy bear go?" *hiding it under the blanket*
phantom antelope
te6/21 pls
... te + not closed but change the vowel
ty dose
thanks dosef
tx doseffing, hey peri and jes! *eating sloppy tacos*
Okay, back. For the moment...
hi stid
TOR! you posted a pic of grandbaby! *admires sweet child*
hey kje how are you today?
hi again all!
hey sue! how are all the saggy-baggies? you apparently timed that reunion just right -- did they put a gazillion candles on a cake for you? are you home safe? (inquiring minds want to know)
hi stid! I didn't really mention my birthday although my son and I did have a very nice dinner out. My classmates are fine, and we are home safe, and the dog is fine (she stayed at the vet's), and all is well.
hi stid! I didn't really mention my birthday although my son and I did have a very nice dinner out. My classmates are fine, and we are home safe, and the dog is fine (she stayed at the vet's), and all is well.
(my link seems a little flaky, though, didn't really mean to say all that twice)
glad all is well and that you had a chance to have a nice dinner.
I am down to 51 and thinking of stopping for the evening.
I also have a new t-shirt - on the front it says Mount Holyoke College, and on the back it says "It's not a girls' school without men - it's a women's college without boys!"
I have 68 left, probably won't finish - hip is hurting and I think I will go lie down in a bit.
LOL great saying!
oh, I am on my heating pad this evening, sue. you have my empathy
I like it :-)
(the saying that is, not the heating pad)
I like the shirt, uusue
hello, everyone
I have a STEM cafe (science for the public) on Thursday night, so am writing a handout for everyone - I am talking about pseudoscience and how the world won't end on 12/21/12
hi, welki!
hi welk
and thanks, kje!
my undergrad was Texas Woman's University, so I can relate
hey welki
<-- dated one of the first young men accepted into vassar college - does that count? or that i was one of the first women to use the bathroom at mcsorley's? *lol*
Sounds like a solid topic -- I know you also address it on your website. But part of me wishes the world WOULD end and then I could stop worrying about how to pay off my grad school loans.
