ty jili and hi back!
looks like you got some of our heat volley...last 4 days 105..106...106...106
TY - looked at that but didn't try it
hottest I remember in a very long time... and no rain, which is scary and killing our crops... looked like it would storm tonight and literally we got about 20 drops of rain and that was it
where is that, Dee?
northern Indiana
107! And here it didn't even reach 70, well below normal.

does your new house cool better than the old one?
tyvm mrp!
yes and no...basement is very cool; main floor was doing well till 6/21 - broke; they replaced a capacitor and we thot all was well, but today it seemed to be struggling... not sure if due to extreme temp of 107 or if something else is goofy; repairman only hear about 20 min, so not sure he fully checked a/c... we'll see in a day or too
we have 13 ft ceilings, which isn't helpful in extreme heat

hi ru and neil -- you're both late!

poofing with hugs sounds funny
ty ru and neil
could be hoofing with pugs
or goofing with phugs
or phugging with goofs
Or hugging poofs?
<---knows that one
I won't ask, ru... I just won't.
one word I'd never seen before (unless I'd forgotten) -- sp6, meaning "1. one of a body of native Algerian cavalry in the French service. 2. (formerly) a cavalryman in the Turkish army."
we didn't have ipods in those days neil
*stealth hugs jill*
What does that matter ruru?
You say the strangest things sometimes dude.
LOL
had walkmen
stealth ty stid ;-)
Are those where you sneak up on the person and hug them before they know you're there, stidmama?
Walkmen.. wow. They're in museums now. ;)

Morning to you, Glantarell.

Oh duh. That's it stid... was trying to think of it.
so are rotary phones...black/white tvs...cars without power steering/brakes/FM radio....pay phones
Ok Glant... what stid said.
Bore da Stid!!!!
yay, the gang is all here. still trying to work out how to use a different email system. will try later to email those of you whu are unfortunate enough to be in my address book
Pay phones, yeah.
grannyrose!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
hey gran
Where and how are you?
Are you in the hospital yet?
{{{{{{neil}}}}}}}
*unpoof -- hi grany -- how goes it?
hey grannyrose (((gentle hugs))) still making progress, I hope?
Ummm, make that "fortunate" [very]. :)
we still have pay phones here but mostly the take credit cards
Did you have the surgery already?
and dart, we have FM radio
neil, surgery all done, up and weight-bearing with crutches already
Oh wow Rose... feel so out of touch.
Wow again! How's that going?
hooray, granny! You see, there was nothing to worry about!
hope it's all going as well as it sounds granny
And what have they said about your progress?
just gotta love that oral morphine. lol
jilli talking about the things you don't see anymore.....cars only had AM radio for a long time
oh, yes, dart -- you were talking about cars
I'm glad it's working well for you Rose. :)
" they" are all stunned. apparently most people take 2 weeks to get to where i am
So the surgery must have gone well? :)
Oh wow!
that's great gran
yikes, nbt and down to 33 already.
I'm just smiling... and I'd be ruining my "negative" rep completely if anyone saw me right now, haha.
OH! DART!!!! *choclit-confetti happiness*
I remember a car in the 1940s with no heater -- in Montreal. I had to de-ice the windshield with my hands while hubby-to-be drove.
hey stid LTNS !!
ah, but granny you are AMAZING, as we well know. They will be speaking of you for years... their model patient.
No heater... there?! Wow.
very well. and i promise to talk as soon as i finish this grid....but then again, chat is more important
It's a small easy grid, Rose... good thing. :)
ah jill -- those were the days, when you were young and the world was your oyster... I remember cars like that when I was that age, too!
I remember black and white TV with three channels
4, 5, 7
am working from the laptop, ot familiar with it's idiosyncracies.
no remote.....rabbit ears you had to adjust....and 3-6 channels
You're doing well on it though Rose.
You can Babble! What more do you need? ;)
well granny you are on drugs too
Yeah dart... people actually had to get off the couch and walk over to change channels on the TV.
We had to have blankets in that car. No turn indicators either, and of course no automatic transmission.
I remember walking a mile to and from school on occasion...
more exercise then neil lol
IT guy here was quite sympathetic when i rang him from my room. i must have sounded really pathetic. he's hooked me into the network, no charge.
Haha dart... was just gonna say that!
How nice of him Rose. :)
I walked 2 miles to school and the same home every day through senior school
whop
So glad, granny, that you're astounding all with your progress. When do you go home?
like ruru said..only a few channels...didn't need to change as much
but you have always been focused on education, glantarell!
yeah, glant, in the snow with barbed-wire shoes, right?
YAY IT guy...
sometimes Rose LOL
Barbed-wire shoes? Huh.
jilli, hope to go home next monday/tuesday
definitely through lots of snow in Nov 73 when princess Anne got married
yeah, neil, to stop slipping in the snow
Oh wow, Rose... that's great. :)
remember it well LOL
Wonderful, granny. And now I must really *poof...
nite jilli
night, jilli. sleep well, hun
I don't remember that royal wedding, but will never forget the one in 1981
I went in trousers because it was so cold and they sent me home because i wasn't in proper uniform (skirt)
night jilli
sweet dreams again jill!
the 1981 wedding was spectacular
we got up to watch it on TV. I was so excited, I clipped and saved so many articles about it, and dreamed about all the interesting things that were going on.
she was beautiful - and so was the dress (although a bit fussy for my taste)
It was a time of ruffles and lace, though -- and compared to some of the garments she might have chosen it was lovely. It seemed to suit her well.
yes, shame the whole thing led to such sadness
are you talking about Diana
She was only a few years older than me, but it felt like she lived in a completely different time and universe
yes ruru
yes, Diana
oh.. she seemed to be a lovely person.. I don't think I have ever forgiven Charles
don't think i have either
not that he cares a whit
unfortunately the world they live in uses people like that -- or did. I really hope that things are changing and that the new generation will have better and happier matches.
not fond of Camilla either
I have to say I like the boys and am warming up to the queen.
okay,I am down to 24 and it's very late here. I think I will turn in.
i'm stuck at 14
I think that they have unfortunate lives... but I really admire Charles' commitment to better the earth. He really seems to take an interest in making the land healthy, and helping people take charge of how they interact with the environment. I know there are lots of problems everywhere, but at least he has something (other than polo) that he is passionate about.
anyway... I don't know how I would feel if that family were even nominally in a position of authority over me. The relationship of constitutional monarch to the people doesn't completely make sense to me, other than that the queen is a beautiful example of a person who does her duty and cares for the people of her country. She seems to clarify and focus the concerns of the people at moments of crisis, and that is something our country seems to lack: a coherent, cohesive, constant symbol of unity.
agreed stid
and with that bit of alliteration, I think I should retire. good night all, and have a lovely Friday! *poof*
bye stid
sounds like america is pulling a boehner
where's neil when I pull off a funny political joke?
Funny???
*sends rescue team in search of hoot's funny bone*
My funny bone is in fine shape wise guy! How ya doing? Getting that knee fixed soon?
Oh sorry ru.. was busy with a friend on IM.
Can you get on there?
I hope so soon.. maybe early this fall
And that was bad ru... sooo bad. :P
Well I hope it works out fine!
But I'd expect nothing more of you. Haha.
thanks hoot
hearing granny doing well gives me confidence
I'm sure you'll be fine ruru.
yw
They seem to do these surgeries very well these days.
yeah.. well
ruru, go for a shapematch knee. stryker in US of A make them. google it, it;s really incredible
"yeah... well"?
Is that what you got Rose?
yup, neil, a designer knee, made especially for me. it even had my name etched into it
And I'm going by a woman who was our neighbor in San ?Diego, ru... she had it done a few years ago after being pretty much crippled with bad knees. She could go up and downstairs like anyone else and even run for the bus after she healed from that surgery. Big difference.
Wow, how cool is that Rose? No wonder you're doing so well. :)
How did that ? find its way into that? Weird.
is the 8 a compound word
Yes, ru.
" cos it's good english??? lol
2 of the words in the grid put together.
A display you may enjoy if your name was Tom? lol
I'm referring to the ? that appeared when I typed this, Rose: "San ?Diego"
Finger must've hit it accidentally.
god damn
What ru?
aha! that explains it then. don't ask, neil.i'm not sure myself. *giggle*
Haha Rose. It's ok. :)
You ok ru?
back - phone call - and NBT at last
yes..
Oh good. What was the "god damn" for?
I missed pe 8
just got it - ty
Oh, ok.
not that I go to them
Yeah. I guess that one should've been kinda obvious to you, huh ru? lol
it was a really good one, too, ruru. better luck next time.lol
Sure, sure. :P
I can only have so much marshmallow
I'm just getting him back a little, Rose.
He has it coming to him. ;)
:P
oh dear, neil and i on the same wavelength...this could get interesting
Or... scary?
look out world, here comes the dynamic duo
quick everyone turn off your minds and look blank....oh, you are already doing that.
Wonderwoman and Superdork?
Haha Rose!
negative - granny
hmmmm
NBS at last
That morphine must be working well. ;)
actually sounds like a punk band
yay, glantarell
What does, ru? "Negative Granny"?
yes.
Haha. A geriatric punk band?
yes.. angry and cranky
:-)
rofl
With their blue hair spiked up?
lilac rinse
with songs like: "It Depends"
hey, who you calling a geriatric? neil, be insulted for me please, there's a dear. it's time for my nana nap
goddamn. You just had to!
"don't ***k with my Medicare"
Ummm Rose? I said that word. :P
That morphine MUST be good. Haha!
nananana... nananana.. hey hey... goodbye
:P
just relaxing and glowing with goowill. say it again, sam...er neil
Goowill? I don't wish goo on anyone.
Lots of spatulas around goowill
Now I'm really laughing. And can't stop. [yep... as usual I'm overtired]
one thing neil....
Huh?
don't forget to put the ipad on the shelf...
That's an iPod, ru.
whatever
:D
And so? Nobody else will have a clue what you're even talking about. [thank god]
yes.. thankfully you are safe and sound
..well.. safe at any rate
oh.. I should bag it.. I'm not even being coherent
good night granny (feel better) night neil.. sleep well

hi sarah :)
good morning
hey ruby :)
{{sprite}}
{{sarah}}
and is Rose still here????
doesn't look like it
hiya ruby :)
how's life, ruby? still miss seeing you guys.
it is very quiet around here and, of course, guess who did his trick as soon as you were gone?
notice what breed of dog is in the grid!
lollllllll cool rufie. he is in the grid today, did you see?
*snap* :D
pfff I was so sick yesterday from the weather. Never been that sick before from it. Getting older seems to make it so much worse. Silly.
was it too hot?
it was over 30C here, very unusual
plies
sorry, is there coffee in the PB?
no, too low air pressure. It was hot, but also storm and thunderstorm threathening.
lol of course! And homemade jelly, and croissants, and duck pate...
<-- still eating spicy Dutch cheese and crackers!
lots of lovely fruit... oh I miss the food too!
and white peaches with sugar and cream
ah good! I love it that you enjoy the cheese.
I'm still saving the second one! Oh, and of course, I am rationing out my Jenever!!!!
what do you prefer, ruby, with emailing? Shall I wait until you answer my last email, or shall I just write when I feel like it?
I drink a little snort each day
lol don't ration it out. You have 2 bottles, and once they are done, we will make sure you get new ones.
write when you feel like it, as I do. At the moment, I'm drowning in paperwork
ague
did it again, better not chat!
good one, thanks

ah nice!
phantom: excuse
yeah, tried that too :) I so want to use that X. How is your husband?
back to status quo; your visit perked him up, but, unfortunately, it didn't last... :(

awww :( Please ask him if he likes me to email him. I'd love to. Will think of things to cheer him up.
wtg ruby!
"little"{ boy just came in to say hello and gave me a sweet bump and kiss
awwww he is such a funny sweet dog
is he healing up well now
+ a questionmark
the hair on the shaved part is about 1" long and he only has a small scab left
sounds good. And the itching is gone?
his color is changing rapidly, almost the same color as Ruby on his back
mostly gone
that is a very pretty colour. Glad he is itching less.
I keep trying elipse.... can't get the e or the i in the top row
the i = i + law in latin
the e = es + past tense of what a dog does with a bone
slap me with a herrind!
I tried ellipse too. Uch times.
or even a herring!
*slaps ruby gently with a fresh herring*
oooh, got the i!!!
good!
and the other E is a babblet. ep4

Well done sarah
morning, help with top e and i pls
help with that ho7 pls
i4/9
... ep4/6
ty I saw a clue earlier for the i but did not get it
and I still don't
and I don't see the ep either, too tired, did not sleep well again
hello. easy-peasy it isn't, at least for me!
... I thought it was a legal term ... but it's a tree ... a holly tree
got the i word
ty
I thought it was a kind of antelope duh!
... morning ruby ... got your bike all oiled up and ready to go?
you betcha!
did anybody see last night's soccer match? Just had lunch at the local Italian and he was all pumped up!
<-- loves European sports
... only saw the tv celebration after the match
go the ep ty
... probably a wild party in any Little Italy you can find
it was a great game, but the goal in overtime that they gave to Ozil was a pure "cadeau"
it's too bad that my DH isn't a sports fan....
:(
there's no "little Italy" here, but this part of France was Italian until the end of the 19th C!
... well watch out ... I'll bet that the Bundesbank has something to say to the Italians today as revenge for losing the soccer game
uh oh.....
I think they call their team the Mannschaft!!!
but they were less than useless against the Azzuri!
Buffon is one of my heros!
... The Toronto morning paper actually has a good soccer reporter at the tournament ... his assessment is the very much that the Germans knew that they were going to win so they didn't bother to play the game
may I pls have a clue for one of the 6's and 7's
they've never beaten the Italians in a final or demi-final
... plural of red fruit
or taken a World Cup or a Uefa Cup. Yay for that!
... then put a d in front of red fruit
ok, looking
the IHT has Rob Hughes and Jere Longman, both knowledgeable and interesting and, good writers
sheesh and I already had the singular of the fruit
... the thing you use to move a canoe but with only one d ... and it's plural
tyty both
need a break, bbl
those are very complicated clues, too complicated after 3 grappas!!!
<-- doesn't see any fruit
... The Globe uses their transplanted englishman, John Doyle, who is usually the television critic ... ... I think he started as a reporter for an English paper a thousand years ago
Psssst...what Eve gave Adam
I am so happy, Tour tomorrow and UEFA finals tomorrow night. Poor husband!!!
{{molly}}
Pssst...what you are drinking has the first three letters in it
had those :(
I always love it when Ruby kicks off Friday happy hour at 7AM my time : D
that is so funny, molly
... put a "d" in front of fruit? ... think of a horse with a spotted coat
but it's after 1PM here
Pssst...put a D in front of them for a 6 and 7
I'd rather drink at lunch and then take a nap
... sorry .. it's only 7a.m. here ... and I gotta go impress a guy about a two week teaching gig ... only tea for me
good luck with your interview, dose
Good luck Dose
snap, molly
... thanks ... I got the first two weeks of July for summer school ... but I could use a second session in the final two weeks too
the fruit, mispelled, is in here, too
another Fr word
... but I'm trying to figure out how you take a group of 13 year olds who didn't do any work for 5 months and in 8 days get them to learn enough math to be successful in Grade 10
with heavy weapons
... I was thinking baseball bats to the head
good weapon
speaking very softly often works
... thanks teddy
that's me -- was a teacher for a long time, never yelled
have a small voice, but I wasn't teaching anything difficult, conceptually yes, specifically, no
... appex
... sorry about that
if only....
... really dislike shouting ... but ya gotta shut 'em up somehow ...
... at least for ten seconds anyways
I did it by going really quiet and waiting....
<-- can't shout
but I was "only" teaching art
very different
... my father was an army drill sergeant
... learned to shout loudly at a young age ...
funny, because my origina goal, unfulfilled, was teaching high school math. Unfortunately, never "got\" calculus
... also learned when to shout
... but I never was able to learn how to whistle with my fingers between my teeth ... ... he could rupture eardrums with that trick
I still can't shout
me either, ruby!! the end of my stellar math career!
and I'm old!
loved algebra and trig . . .
ruby, the dog photos are just stunning!!
very funny, une. Calculus was like Greek to me
same, here
they're a little bit blurry, but almost like a movie. The dogs are stellar
switched from math major to French LOL
I switched to art
:-D
calculus was a nightmare
horrible
... but it was the french mathematicians who laid all the ground work for the fundamentals of calculus ...
still didn't get it, even after tutoring ;_(
and required at my university; I needed a tutor to get a D!
... but I know it can be hard to pick up
pfui on the French
ruby, ME TOO!!
that is too funny, une
i had never gotten a bad grade in my whole life until calculus!!
the Fr don't even know whether to pass on the right or left, as pedestrians
me too, une, are we twins?
I had even gone to a math summer camp one year LOL
hee hee
... my inexpert opinion is one of the problems is until calculus all the stuff is either about "discrete" numbers ... i.e. counting ... or is taught like it is ... so when you get the idea of "continuity" which is what calculus requires none of the stuff you've already learned seems to apply
my high school math teacher had high hopes for me but was decu!
my high school math teacher never knew of my calculus debacle LOL
I'm sure you're right, dose, does "counterintuitive" apply?
Ho7,44 Hint please
I saw mine, 3 yrs later and he was very disappointed
... high school math teachers are always living in the dream that one of their students will be the genius who does all the brilliant math things that they were never able to do
where did you go to university, une?
dos, that's right -- i remember being baffled by my daughter's AP math classes where they actually APPLIED math LOL
hi sheila
ho7 druggie
ty for the ho7!
went to Southwestern at Memphis, which is now Rhodes College, small private school
<-- didn't know math could be app*****
... AP math ... impressive
ooohhh, tx, ruby!
much fancier than Queens College, I'm sure
... it's all applied somewhere
Who you callin' a ho druggie, Une? : P
ho druggie is very old-fashioned, but very funny
my daughter's VERY smart -- did AP everything -- which was GREAT -- kept her challenged, which she was NOT before high school
molly LOL
molly is not a ho druggie!!
Ruby, my mom's brother paid for my college education but I didn't know for YEARS -- he made it look like I had a scholarship :-)
my son was a product of "new math", couldn't do simple arithmetic ins 5th grade!
Mother didn't know either . . .
that is a nice story, une
New math...what a joke
jeez, new math . . .
... it's great that she was able to get the benefit of it ... I've seen lot's of kids completely lose confidence in their ability to learn anything because they could cope with AP
it was a very bad experiment!
... just missed it myself
... just missed it myself
I am convinced that I am "math warped" for life because of new math.
dos, t was GREAT -- and her AP teachers were just wonderful
*it
... it was actually pretty good if you got started with it in high school ... but if you got caught in grade1 ... you were doomed
my son, too, but fortunately, he taught himself computers when he was at university and has made a great career out of it
<---Doomed
however, I would be reluctant to give him a column of numbers to add.....
molly is not doomed; she is wonderful and smart!!!
one of her AP teachers even took a vanload of her students (including my daughter) out to NM for a camping expedition -- history and anthropology
she was one of the US teachers of the year back in the '90s
ok, i'll stop!
I was lucky, going through school in NYC before affirmative action. They could still "segregate" the good students
... but she can't do new math ... ... but then neither can anyone else in the world ... so of course she's not doomed
<-- loves une and she should never satop
or even stop*
LOL!
Thank God for my Dad, or I would still be wandering aimlessly, muttering about sets and subsets
... but she should always make sure that she has a good calculator handy
thank you, Molly's dad!
molly :-)
calculators? what happened to pencil and paper? (said by a dinosaur)
I'm convinced LSD had something to do with new math.
raofl!
molly LOL
you're probably right
... The set theory is great stuff and makes the cyphering really understandable ... but you gotta be able to do the cyphering first ... not the set theory ... like they tried in the t0s
speaking of dinosaurs, tomorrow a friend is going with me to Verizon to swap my antique "dumb phone" for a smart phone -- wahoo!!
I think, chez nout, we are the only people in the Haute Savoie (or even in France) without a cell phone\
nous*
... you're probably right ... I think France is like Norway where there are more cell phones in service than there are people in the country
I shudder when even my dumb phone rings
or like America, with more guns than people....
ruby LOL . . . growing up, my family was the last in town to get a color TV !!!
we were the last to get a B&W TV!
ok, gotta run -- loved visiting with you boys and girls!! HAGD *poof*
my son is very hi-tech; I am decidedly low....
{{une}}
me, too, nap and newspaper time....
... colour tv! ... that's how I learned to stay at school for the weekend rather than come home ... ... could watch the Sunday football in colour in the residence lounge ... parents only had the black and white that I'd watched Howdy Doody on
*poof*
<---Still has a dumb phone. Doesn't need to carry around a computer.
... yes ... probably best that I leave the final 11 for later ... ... barkeep! another good day for everyone! ... ... 'til later
tadone! finito
oh goodie..a bitty grid :)
yay lbd!!!

Absolutely. I will be numb for the rest of the afternoon.

Hi Judi!
Stats for the i please?
Ugh. Never mind.
Yawn. Fireworks.

Wow! Great job Judi!

Morning Steve! Just 84 today.
tks car
Hi All
Hi Hego!
hello again
{{hego}}
((Ruby))
hi steve and car.!
snap!
we finally have our heat wave. What a pleasure!!!
hi Ruby!
hi
here too, not a pleasure. 90 plus
hi kje!
enable has not heard of apps
Hi kje!
hi ruby
hello kje, is it cool and damp out west?
hi steve
enable has not heard of whoopie... which I find sad
cool and damp???? try 100 today
we had such a miserable wet and cold sprin, that I am really enjoying the heat
wow
it is sad
enjoy Rubes!!
kje...try the double vowel on the end and you'll get the same word!
it's never been much above 90 here (it is now) but this is fine. And the garden is glorious!
OK everyone! Have a great day! {{hugs}}
ty jim
yay! ty jimmel
yw
<<<< would love to see Ruby's garden.
and the puppy is huge, as big as old Ruby, just not quite as heavy yet, and he's only 6 months
I feel better for enable now
would you like photos hego?
finally!!!
He'll get bigger, ruby
often frustrating resource!
yes, would have been said for enable not to have known that word
yes Ruby
or even sad*
if I could figure out how to make an album, I'd put them on FB but this computer nullard can't do it
as the vet says, he's "magnifique"
you have to go to your wall and click photos.
that's all I know.lol
do I have to put them someplace first?
I am too old to learn this stuff!
somewhere on your computer where you can access them
Just like you upload your icon here.
I will try again later
never too old to learn, ruby!
I mostly get stuff done by accident.
fun
easy to say, sue
but I'll send you a diorama of the two dogs wrestling. It's a little bit blurry, but it's like one of those old "flip movies" and it's quite funny
I think there's a photo of sprite and my husband at the end, but I'm not sure
hi ruby, hego, kje!
hi Sue
ty Ruby
{{sue}} I saw some nifty cotton/linen pants in the llbean catalogue, if you're still looking
I like llbean because their petite pants are short enough and I don't have to take them up.
are there any words in here?
<-- very short
oh, thanks, ruby, I found some on Blair (on sale for $20 with free shipping) so they are on their way - these are convertible cargo/crop pants, so should work
what is Blair
I should check those pants out.ty Ruby
I am kind of short but regular petites usually work for me
and I like elastic waists
let's hear it for the petites. lol
blair.com, has pretty inexpensive clothes and I have found that their pants usually fit me pretty well - often when I find things that fit my hips they are too big at the waist
I tried buying "cropped" pants, figuring they'd be long enough NOT
<---- tall
let's hear it for the talls!!
well, the cropped pants are short on me but they are nice in the heat
I could tell, KJE! you speak with the authority of a tall person LOL
lolol ruby
cropped pants fit me perfectly as longs.
I can't show my ankles because they're all bitten-up
supposed to be in the 90s here for the foreseeable future, although the 100 degrees yesterday was too much
I have a raspberry and blackberry crisp starting to smell good in the oven
where are you sue?
yum, kje!
I guess I could take on a tall, blonde, young persona on line.....
ap 7 anyone?
hardly any raspberries this year
ap7 - stick a sticker on a bumper, for example
or mascara on lashes
or lotion to a rash
like the fruit but add a vowel toward the end
oh gosh, ty
he works hard...he really ap7 himself
what great cluers!
hi rob
hi
this is much better than real life
but I still don't finish
hahahaha
so what
exactly, hego!
I'm stuck halfway already
bbiam
kje, I am in northern Illinois, about 60 miles west of Chicago
the wandering uusue
and sue is even normal!
what?
: )
No. Illinois is perfect, near Chicago but not in it
how dare you accuse her of normal
Normal, Illinois, n'est-ce pas?
ah. the home of our competition :-) Illinois State University is in Normal, I am in DeKalb
So. Ill., on the other hand, was very hot and humid
aaah, I was thinking you were at Normal mea culpa....
no problem - they are about 2 hours south of here
and the only big city was St. Louis, 2 hrs away
ex- taught there
it is nice being near Chicago - quite a world-class city!
SIU Carbondale?
if it had a better climate, everybody would live there
berry crisp for breakfast - would feel bad, but is it really any different than granola with fruit?
yes, he was in the history dept and I was working on a masters' in design, back in the days of Buckminster Fuller
NOOOoooo
my dept was house in a couple of geodesic domes
ah - I've never actually been down to Carbondale (I hear I am not missing much)
geodesic domes sound cool, though
berry crisp with sweet cream would cover all the food groups, I think
will a dollop of plain Fage Total yogurt - that stuff is like whipped cream
they're an odd space because the edges are useless, even if you're short
you might need a glass of OJ
coffee
yum : 9
had 3 clementines with my first cup of coffee
not an OJ fan usually, would rather have the whole fruit
I just read that the incidence of cardiac problems goes way down if you have a few cups a day
a few cups of what
coffee
coffee has some good benefits
<--- drinking green tea at the moment
yes, anti-oxidants
funny to me that people often think coffee is bad and tea is good - they have most of the same properties and the health benefits of one (for whatever that's truly worth) are the same as the other
although I drank enough coffee when I was younger, that if I live to 100 or so it should average out to a few cups a day
green tea has them, too
I like tea too
does green tea have caffeine?
I eat choclit for those
there is a wonderful tea shop in Paris called Marriage Frere
yes, it does, ruby, although not as much as coffee
they have a blend called Marco Polo - best freakin stuff in the world
great name!
yes, green tea has caffeine
<-- love that caffeine jolt in the morning
I had wonderful tea at a shop in Sorbonne.
next time you are in Paris, ruby - Marriage Frere in the Marais - just the smell walking into the place is heaven... centuries of tea and spice absorbed by those old wood floors and walls
sounds like heaven
should be there in Nov for a couple of days
is ho 7 a compound word?
easy train ride, just a question of whether the home fires would keep burning....
they have another shop now in another part of Paris, but the original is the best, has been there since the 1700s
yes, hego
yes, hego, an old-fashioned word for addict
ty Ruby
sounds like someone who drinks a lot of malty beverages
odd name, the tea shop.
and kje
I spelled it wrong - mariage freres
close enough for jazz!
taking a break bbl. hagd all
bye hego
see you later, hego
bye. poof
http://www.mariagefreres.com/
even the website has a lovely fragrance ; )
only 19 words left, but they're probably unattainable
anybody else want dog pix?
2 here, ruby - listed at 8, there are a few weird ones but completely attainable!
... they're easy with the list
are you posting them on FB, ruby?
fortunately, the pix are not d0gscented....
no, right now I have them in my yahoo and can forward them if you like. I have your address from when DH was in hosp
hi dose
ha!
ok
*poof*
FW!
no fair i have a meeting all day at which i can babble :-(
yep, short one today, jmc
... just keep your machine under the table ... ... or are you participating from home on a call ...
but doable listless with all that time...
i could have used the 250 from yesterday
no it one the table i just try to look like i am taking notes
*its on the table
hi jmc!
hi uu
i am going to have to go get my decoder ring over lunch because this wifi keeps cloggin up
does your organization have a website yet?
must run
hagd all
and good luck with your "note taking" jmc
bye kje
bye kje!
my doing this was how wht got hooked
ooh, it's getting all cloudy and dark!!! Maybe it will rain!!!
rain is good
how is cosd? btw
stats for the i please
il4/9
last we heard cos was fine, fire had moved away from them so he could unpack his bag :-)
well those stats pretty much tell the whole story
lol,i love the fb chog..seems i have been racially profiled as "Canadian" hehe
and good morning everyone
yes.saw cosden is in the all clear
hi crossy!
suze!!!:))
and I think Canadian is more ethnic profiling than racial ;-)
was just funny how it was posted was just a small faux pas on the posters part
it is why i no longer re-post i have done so,only to find the info i was passing along was incorrect
canadian, eh?
damn straight! want some kick ass beer jmc?
and don,t be profiling me..lol
as long as its not molson's
lol,molsons gives you the trotts
... that's american ... coors ...
molsons=canadian miller
we have a local micro brewery here called creemore springs
hi dose
american beer=water
... dish water at that
dirty dish water
not all american beer. . .but lots
well, there are some good microbreweries here too, but otherwise, yes.
my f-i-l used to swill the stuff
... I know ... it's all the mass produced national brands with millions of advertising dollars
one day i sat down with him and drank 24 of the things over the course of the afternoon, then went to work lol
micro beer is often the best
sleemans,creemore springs,steam whistle
... stopped at the brewery in Utica New York on the way to Cooperstown ... it's the one that make Shlitz ... which everyone likes to make fun of ... ... however in the lounge after the tour the served several very nice dark beers which were very enjoyable ... ... was really late getting to Cooperstown
there is a beer here produced in hamilton....steeler..thats it
... but that's just cheap stuff
i like sleemans
a nice cream ale or some of the bottled draught
... so do I ... ... but I prefer the Quebec beers from Chomeday ... and not just because most of them are strong beers
i do not have much experience with the quebec micro beers
mmm..making up some 3 layer blt,s for brunch and a pitcher of home made iced tea with the lipton bold tea
... must think about lunch myself soon ... good idea
no idea what i will have served to me
... same feeling ... cupboard is bare ... groceries needed
all us locals did our shopping yesterday and will not come up for air till tuesday this is our july long weekend and we will be invaded by citiots intents on destroying the town, themselves and us.we will come out of our dens on tuesday and clean uyp
Hello all :)
howdy sadie
ol Crossy --- same here at the Jersey shore
I am staying in simply cause its too darn hot to do anything else :)
is the fourth on wednesday?
agreed Sadie, its too hot to go out~Im not leaving my house until I have to go to work at 5:30
Too hot to go out, too hot to play ball, so we'll sit in the house and do nothing at all.
july first is our big one..run for cover!
How hot is it in MD Molly. We're leaving for Richmon d
on WEd.
Gonna be 100 for three days Bich. Bring your Arid X-tra Dry.
Oh by Wednesday it should be a tad bit cooler.
I don't feel like going some place hotter than here. Hubby's family obligation
And it's a good thing it will cool down for the 4th. Otherwise the medical folks on the mall will be doing triple time for all the people with heat exhaustion.
We're driving down on the 4th. What might the traffic be like on the Beltway? Is there a better route?
hi!
On the 4th, you might luck out. Most of the traffic on the Beltway is before the 4th, people going in and out of town. But it's hard to avoid traffic on the Beltway any time.
Hi Pickles
Don't I know that. I just thought there was another way around DC.
There are other ways, but I would suggest you map one out on GPS or Google maps. It's tricky if you aren't familiar with the area.
JMC might be a better resource to tap, she does more long distance driving than I do.
Thanks, I'll look on Google Maps
what?
gonna be a cooker all over this weekend it seems
jmc, just the person. Driving to Richmond on the 4th. What is the best route past DC to take?
it's already 85F at noon
88 here...she says as she basks in the air conditioning hehe
from?
From Baltimre [starting out in CT]
whoopie is not in the dictionary?
27 c (81 american ) here and climbing
89 at home; 90 at work city. Glad the A/C is working!
oh me from jmc?? eastern Pennsylvania
sadie, are you telling me or asking jmc
mid/eastern PA for me too Sadie
oh shoot whoever asked the question
my brain isnt with me yet
I'm asking how to best get past DC. Coming from CT.
grey bottom
Fly
only thing i know about that is not in I 95 that road is a nightmare round D C
lol babble good answer
LOL BR!!
parachute
can't you go down I-81, Bichon?
where does that come from vis-a-vis I95?
may not be direct but better than DC! when I head to NE I go up I-81 to I think I-495?
I-84 connects with I-81
hmmm
but that's way west of CT
I see that now.
Maybe the Beltway won't be that bad on a mid-week 4th of July
remember that there are big fireworks in DC on the 4th!
We'll be there around early afternoon
the traffic WILL be bad - the 4th is huge, no matter day of week, all the events on the mall, etc
Shoopie. Oughta be a word.
and whoopie
it is. PB, Pickes.
I suggest leaving plenty of time, and consider parking in a suburb and taking the subway in or park even further out, and take the train. You can even park at the airport (BWI) or in baltimore and take Amtrak to Union, which is walking distance to most that you want, and metro service to everywhere
no accord to our game
No, it isn't. But I think you get half a PB for the first part of the word. What are they serving there?
no, we're going to Richmond, need to by-pass DC. Leaving from CT around 6 AM.
actually, spell it differently and you got it.
Change one letter.
ah, sorry, misread
you def need to byapss DC! lol
just north of the city, as you go down 95, there will be a diversion to through traffic to richmond, take that
my bad to the pb
will still have some traffic, but will miss the worst of it
What are they feeding the prisoners?
would try to hit there early afternoon - late enough to miss worst of morning crowds going down, and early enough to miss afternoon/evening for fireworks
ice cold lemonade and key lime pie
Any chocolate>
eat it quickly it might melt
but unless you really really must have your car, I am a big fan of Amtrak for any travel up and down the east coast
The journey will go like this. Even though I have told m.i.l. we will be there in the evening, she will call every hour from noon on to see if she should put the food she prepared on. When I tell here there's lots of traffic, she'll still keep call. and, we will have a 4 y.o. with us
sounds delightful, bichon!
of course, you don't have to answer the phone
tell her you turned it off so the 4yo can sleep!
right!

and now it is time for crossy,s often asked for, staggeringly popular tidbit of the day!!!!
Those doves released at weddings and other formal ceremonies are actually white homing pigeons. True ring-neck doves are bred to be kept as pets and rarely survive out of captivity.

does that ho 7 build on one of the other ho words? *noticing that we are, yet again, talking about hos*
got it, and no... it didn't.
LA, the ho 7 is a compound word
ha! that is a funny word
I thought so, too! hope you are well LA?
pretty good. yourself?
as a bonus as i go for a power nap, here are 5 undeniable truths for any landlords or room renters out there....
1.The hot water heater pump that fails will only do so after 5:00 P.M. on Friday evening when every tenant in the building is having a dinner party. 2.The next day , the only supplier in town that stocks parts for the pump tells you that the widget needed to fix it is in a warehouse in Cleveland and the warehousemen there have been on strike for seventeen weeks. 3.You are forced to buy a second rate heater and pump [sold only as a package] for six hundred and fifty dollars, and have it installed by a plumber at double time rates on Sunday morning. 4.On Monday at 9:00:A.M. the strike is settled. 5.On Monday at 9:15:A.M. the hardware store owner calls and says he has found a box containing thirty seven widgets on a shelf in his back room and he will sell one to you at the old price of ten cents.
poink!
I am well enough -- today is my day "off" to not be productive. So taking Grant and a young friend of ours on an outing.
Ah, cross, you've hit the nail on the head for sure!
where to?
I think probably the Seattle Center. We have a membership to the Science Fiction/EMP museum which they enjoy, and then we can eat at one of my favorite restaurants before we go home.
sci fi museum? sounds like just the thing for teen boys
I cannot get my last sh4. Help!! (Not using list) sh4/6, sh4/7, sh4/5, sh4/9, sh4/5, sh4/5, sh4/6. What am I missing?
Ugh, Crossy. Sounds like me with a water main leak on the 4th of July 3yrs ago. No water for 3 days.
sounds great Stiddy!
Thank goodness for my pool! Temps were 115 degrees that weekend.

Just before that my AC went out at the hottest week in June that year. No AC for a week. Again, thank God for my pool. Yes, I stayed.

thx Stid
YAY JUDY!!!!!
GG, Judy!
oh wait stiddy is right i think. two sh 4/9s, both end with the 5-point letter
I am not a desert person, myself -- have driven through a couple, but it's not a climate I like at all. Even living in non-desert grasslands is too dry for me.
yay judy!
I was such a sun-bunny in my earlier years. Now, the hotter it is the less I can take it...even if it IS a dry heat here. Monsoons are just around the corner. Not looking forward to that!
I like the sun, just not the dry. Western Washington is almost perfect for me, except this year Junuary is a little colder and grayer than normal.
okay, stuck at 16, and listing. brb
as usual, many of these are words I did think I entered...
i don't understand how there can be 6 c's...

ch4, ch5, ch4, ch4, ch5
all the c's are ch
yep, those are the ones I have so far, too. apparently there is one more after the second 5 that is 6

I would love to move somewhere warm. tired of shovelling snow and ice in the winter

Hears clinks, and emerges from the undergrowth.....
Sadly clinking with self :-(..........
On the plus side, I am actually making progress with the grid..........
*Late clink*
*Casts a raised eyebrow at undergrowth cling-ons*
Hello Molls, and clink right back atcha! (from the undergrowth..)
*Wonders who Soodle is hiding from*
I don't think I'm hiding from anybody. But usually lurkers lurk in the undergrowth... Theres more Babblers here in the undergrowth than in the PB!!!! How are you Molls?
I know. It's become the trendy, new, "in thing" to be a lurker here. I'm fine. Glad it's the weekend.
I am not a lurker by nature. But my laptop is seriously ill (perhaps fatally ill), and I can only Babble on the smartphone, so chatting and Babbling is almost impossible. And yes, I will 'clink' to Friday!!
I don't know how you can post here or play here on that teeny tiny screen. I would go blind.
I'm on a borrowed lap-top now. Hence the emergence from the undergrowth that is smart-phone-land!
*clink* Yeeha! Friday!
Everyone is borrowing here today. Borrowing air conditioning, borrowing laptops. Hey Tor!
Woo-Hoo! 3 clinkers!!! Its officially a party! (Or as my 20 yr old would say - a PAR-TAY).
*Shudders* I'm so tired of "par-tay", "gawd" and "hawt". Although I can handle it better from a youngster than I can from an old fart.
Hawt?? I am saying that out loud, and still can't figure out what that's supposed to mean? Translation, please....
Hot?
Hot. For some reason, the internet weird speakers say hawt for hot and gawd for God. I find it all incredibly stupid.
Best celebrity gossip of the day. Katie Holmes has FINALLY come to her senses and ended it with Tom Cruise.
With an Irish accent, hot is pronounced HOSH. The soft 'T'.... the bane of the Irish accent.
Oh bless Katie. It took her quite a while to come to her senses.
I've never seen anything so sad as that poor girl crouching in her wedding photos to try and not appear taller than Tom.
Katie is leaving Tom? No shit!
Sory those of you who are squeamish about language, but that's a shockeroo.
All this and Hare too!
Health Care. My cursor jumped. No Hare.
Clue for the 8 please
No TomKat? I need to sit down.
Oh, I AM sitting.
Maybe I'll lie down.
My smelling salts please.
And with tom everyone thought he was sitting when in reality he was standing.....
:)
poor little Suri. If I'm still around when she comes of age, I'll offer my services.
When she comes of age? The poor kid is probably already warped for life.
Hello Kap. :-)
4 going on 44..
And Spanner :-)
Just got here now have to leave - damn, happy babbling all
Guess thats a Hi and Bye Spanner :-P
Hi there.
75 yr old driving home at 3.45am. Stopped by the cops. 'Where are you going' said the cop. 'I'm going to a lecture on the evils of drink' says the drunk. 'Its the middle of the night' says the cop, 'who in the name of goodness gives lectures like that at this time of night. 'My wife' comes the reply...... Ba boom.
Ba boom, ba bing! : D
Afternoon all - looking for a clue for th AP 7 please
:)))))))))))))))))))
Its the way I tell 'em!
That rule hardly ap7's to me.
Thanks!
really, Kate and Tom are splitting?
hi all, up from my nap
one gin and tonic was enough for me today
meant Katie, it did take her a while :)
all of his wives have been taller than he is
is anyone going to acknowledge my existence?
Only one G & T Peri? Lightweight!! The chat is very very quiet today.
well, Soodle, I am not a big drinker and alcohol as calories!!! still want to fit in my current jeans at the end of the summer.
has calories
Just saw on the news.. Its official. Katie Holmes has filed for divorce
LOL Peri... when I say 'Lightweight', I mean literally!!!
haha, I have always been slim
and intend to stay that way
Yay Peri!!!
it is 94 degrees F here and going to be very hot the next few days too
Only about 55 degrees here, with heavy showers. I would love a bit of sunshine. :-(
sending lots of sunshine your way, Soodle
may be back later
Thanks Peri. See you later :-)
bye....Peri
Be careful what you wish for. It's beastly hot here. Blech.
hi everyone clue for the p8 please

Well, nice to have a smaller one, but a larger one would have been nice for points. Won't be babbling this weekend....leaving town for a wedding
Ah, bon voyage and safe travels to you Jilly.
Lots of road miles coming up this week!
*Smiles that Jilly is not so addicted to this game that she Babbles while on a family vacation*
LOL...not that saintly...no internet access
Plus it's a pain to play babble on my Droid
I forget there are still places like that. Seems like you can get internet access anywhere these days.
Well, the motel has it, but won't really have time
Ha! Comcast...number 4 on the Most Disliked Companies In America. I'll second that.
My son had them...and felt the same way!
They are awful. Unfortunately, Verizon is even worse and they are my only two options for internet.
What part of the country are you in?
Phone...bbs
Hello all. anyone know if cosdem is OK? I looked through chog and couldn't see cos and they were told they did not have to evacuate the day before but maybe it changed? What awful pictures and news from Colorado Springs area.
He's okay Scouse. Came close to being evacuated but it didn't happen.
I am not often on here at this time of night (20 to midnight British summer time) - I play between 1:00 am and 3 am Babbletime (6-8 am our time). Oh MollyL that is good news. Such a fragile little margin of this world we can live in.
MollyL that is a fabulous picture on your icon. Is it a photo?
Not a photograph I took. Something that caught my fancy on the internet.
Thanks. Byee for now.

g'night, lady
ty all cluers
well, THAT was exciting! Sounded like the house next door got hit by lightning although all seems fine. BANG!
Hello all, popping in for a chat...
hi Jilly!
hey all
hi stid!
*lurk*
:-)
I finished earlier, can clue if needed.
Sheesh, I go to FB for a second and everyone comes out of lurk mode...
So, uusue, what was the theory on the big bang at 10:33?
Hi stiddy. read your post...how are you feeling?
dunno, Jilly, lightning hit very close but nothing seems to be on fire and no power is out, so we are fine
we heard a sizzling noise and then a giant flash and crash of thunder all at once, so it was definitely near by
Wow, remember an episode like that when I spent the summer at my uncles farm in norther Wisconsin...the dog and I raced for space under the table!!
ouch, sue
I am better, thanks jilly -- the swelling is subsiding, and I told Grant what to look for in case it gets bad before I can reach my epipens. But it's not going to go there today, I think.
I was in a house that was struck by lightning once -- had a rod, but it was still REALLY LOUD.
wow, that is a relief, stid!
I had a really bad reaction to something last night...eyes swelled up, itched like crazy and my asthma hit big time...have NO idea what it could be but diphenhydramine took care of it overnight.
Ya stiddy, stopping breathing would be one....
oh man, jill -- I hate when that happens. *wonders where my inhaler got to*
Exactly, jilly. Sometimes the bp drops so fast I don't have time to react and it looks like I am napping... I tell people if I am napping at an inappropriate time go straight for the epipens.
LOL, I pitched mine at the cat during a night he was playing with the blinds at 3 AM...had one heck of a time finding it last night...
oh! LOL poor kitty was dreaming of catching critters!
<--- very glad she does not have allergies
too make it worse, I was alone last night....
darn cat was actively making the venitian blinds a musical instrument...I was NOT amused nor appreciative...LOL
ah, the melodious tinkling of claws on slats... one of the world's most effective percussion sets.
and guarenteed a standing ovation...with inhaler
hi jilly and everyone
hey harp!
hi harp!
hi harp ((hugs))
have you watched any local news lately jilly? i just got a shock.....
Ya mean bob? Yep, bout knocked me over...poor glenda!
I sure didn't see that coming, course you never do....
help with the o's please?
stats at least?
ow4/8
oo4/5
bonsoir, Une! comme et la chien?
I probably said that entirely wrong -- how's the puppy you escorted?
more frightening to me...he was the chaperone on a youth ministry camping trip when John was in high school...
I have about 5 minutes left to babble, then want to work on some of my reading activities.
salut, stiddy!!! transported a precious senior doxie this afternoon -- such a sweet girl -- 14 yrs old -- so glad a woman in VA is going to care for her in her "golden years"
yikes\
:-) that's wonderful, indeed, Une! What a lucky puppy!
nbt yay
nbt yay
nbt yay
Of course, that was before Virtus....
go, harp!
yay jane!
I have been hand feeding two four day old (ish) abandoned birds, by the way. Quite an adventure.

aawww, harp, that's great!
Let's catch up later jilly.
Mama jane!
oh my, that's a big job, hapr!
And how are the four footed children doing with that??!!

Yep...gotta head to bed, going to a wedding in Helena tomorrow...Kevin is here..ttfn babblers!
(was 109 here today -- broke all records -- jeezomeez)
*poof*
sweet dreams jilly
oh Une, that is too warm. It's bad further east, too. And north of you, and west of you...
Sweet dreams also Une
harp, do you need any clues before I go do some reading and thinking?
guess not -- have a wonderful rest of your evening, and see you again soon I expect! *poof*
jilly-I don't think the cat has figured out what's going on. they are just these little fluff balls in a nest.
thanks stid, but I think I'll just go to the list. I have 52 left and I don't feel like pushing myself....
hello everyone :)
