{{{{sarah}}}}} and hello to dianne, jilli, dee
and jenny, hi!
hi grannyrose how are you x
oh, good, you are still here. not so godd today. everything seems to have fallen on top of me. have been boohooing for most of the day. * shrug* par for the course, i htink.
hugs hun x
hubby has been most attentive. i was able to explain how i was feeling. haven't done much physically. and the knee hurts. i went back to work this week, did 3 days in a row.
do not to much hun you still need to take it easy x
hello all - rose sorry you having a bad day - glad its only the weight of the world that fell on top of you and not a brick wall - you prob just very tired
i think walking around on concrete floors was probably not the best idea i have ever had.
hey urshy. so true. other probs here also. mother mac's angina attacks becoming more frequent, my own mum not well and i can't help her, my eldest wants to walk out on his wife....does someone have a hole i can hide in, please?
the lasttimei felt like this, was after my divorce...i wept for 3 days, then bounced back. a sort of mini nervous breakdown, i guess. i might just go ahead and we4 for 3 days and get it over with.
hey rose - sometimes you just have to thicken your own hide - you can only do what you can do
okay...that's it folks. will behave now, i promise
What would you tell anybody else who came to you with these problems? I suspect you would point out that you are not responsible for everyone else's problems. You'd also say that having undergone major surgery doesn't leave you in the best of shape to tackle the world.
And then you'd insist on letting everyone else know that they're adults and that not every problem can be fixed by you.
Put away your Superwoman cape for a while and have a rest.
oooh so clever here - found fa6/42 - chicken strips
lol, thanx haz, you actually made me smile. you are right. i had an issue in that no-one could tell me if it is normal to be like this post-op. i have joined a support group for peeps who have had major joint surgery. they validated how i felt, and now my babble buddies are doing the same. thank-you so much.
You're welcome - I've seen friends being overwhelmed with responsibilities and I've had to remind them of the word 'No'.
like the superwomen cape bit - someone told my daughter to put on her "big girl panties" and get on with it
oh, dear, urshy, was she so naughty, then?
no rose just complaining about being a single working Mum
been there, done that, with 3 young children.i know what she's going through. if you think it would help, please feel free to give her my email addy. i will be there for her.
how kind rose ty
YOU WILL NOT. YOU'VE GOT ENOUGH ON YOUR PLATE!!
lol lol lol haz
oops...i just did it again, didn't i?
Honestly, you need some sort of intervention.
no rose she will just put on her "big girl panties" and get on with it
okay, urshy. but please keep me in the loop. *holds out hand for a smack from haz*
she has lots of support when she needs it - i know it is tough to go it alone but she will get there in the end - tx for the offer
No smack, just a knowing look.
ne
*giggle* just seen a news report on a fur seal pup which stopped traffic on one of our coastal roads. it appears it went for a 'walk' and then stopped for a snooze half-way across the road.
I wonder if the drivers were charmed or enraged?
shalom everyone.
Hello, ARB.
hey arb
hello arb
good morning
Good morning, ruby.
I always come in after everybody's gone :(
not everybody! hello, haz
Yes, I'm still here.
good morning!
{{sprite}}
Good morning, sprite.
hey Haz, how nice to see you :) How have you been?
hey ruby *hug* How is life with you and Burt and the pupperts?
we're all doing better, thanks
I've been well, thanks.
glad to hear it, Haz.
glad to hear that too, ruby
over half and nbt but no 9 and it's time for Burt's Campari
see you later kids
Bye, ruby.
bye ruby, hug Burt from me and have one yourself as well :)
Your children are back at school, sprite?
yes, they started last week. Regular life again.
Regular life is both a comfort and a nuisance sometimes.
I am mostly happy to be back to a regular schedule. I still have trouble structuring my days, so a bit of help is welcome :)
I know, I miss having the dog to break up the day a little, but in our house the meals are the structure!
that certainly helps! My husband goes to work too early for us to have breakfast together. And the kids don't start every day at the same time. At lunch they are at school and work. So with us, only dinner is really structural.
and *hug* for missing your dog. It can maybe still get you by surprise at some moments. At least that is how it was for me.
Husband comes home most days for lunch although it's not always at a regular time. Sometimes he'll appear two hours late and ask 'Have I missed lunch'.
lol - caught up in work. What is your answer then?
Yes! I can wait a reasonable amount of time but two hours is pushing it.
*grin* Good for you! I'd have answered a positive YES as well.
am participating in a pilot for a part time therapy group. One day a week. I am really learning to work within a structure without pushing myself too far.
He's perfectly capable of foraging for himself if I'm doing something else.
How many others are taking part?
7 other participants and 3 coaches.
And how do you report on your progress?
hehehe it is good for men (and women too) to do for themselves every once in a while.
we just started. For now we report on our individual therapy and we check each week how we stand considering last week's targets and the new ones. I expect having to make written reports soon as well.
Phone, back shortly.
ok :)
Back - husband can take over, it's a friend needing advice about a dog.
you'll probably get a lot of that. If I had a close friend who was a vet, I'd probably check with him/her first as well when Terra would be unwell.
Yes, this particular friend has two dogs and she's ultra anxious about them sometimes.
if, not when. And should, not would. I think.
He's going to go and see the dog in question. He's on holiday, but he's a nice man!
ouch, that could be bothersome. I used to be too anxious about Terra too. But now I feel like a more experienced dog owner.
aw that is sweet of him.
if he goes now, he might be late for lunch, grin
Knowing him, he'll not miss his lunch. He'll get it eventually!
even if he has to forage for it himself!
Absolutely.
Okay, time I was heading off myself. It's a very enjoyable grid even though I view j much as you view k.
Have a good day, sprite. Bye for now!
you too, Haz, and good luck with the Js :)
Ja!
:D

my new compy is a macbook air, and they do not have a cd/dvd drive cause they're so little and i want to buy an external drive and i want to know that it will play regular DVDs, like movies and what not. is DVD-ROM those kind of DVDs?
not OBAMA, OMAHA.
yes, but it is the software that reads it and you will be fine on your air
somewhere in middle america...
oh
so i can get any which one, even if it is cheap?
http://www.amazon.com/External-CD-RW-C ombo-Drive-Writer/dp/tech-data/B002782 LTG/ref=de_a_smtd
and I am green w/envy hurshy
yes, but cheap usually costs more in the end
go to egghead.com or tiger and get your moneys worth
well i'm not going to use it very often, prolly only a few times a year, so it shouldn't matter that much, right?

i just need it for like, if i visit my sister who doesn't have a tv, and stuff like that

My mother is talking at me on the phone. She is distraught about a problem with her washer. She is OCD about laundry.
Scrabs mom is always interesting.
leaving for a bit
She is unable to summarize anything; she excels at tangents and unnecessary details. (Unnecessary to me.)
Bye Annie

For sure.
i often wish i had an ocd switch....there are times it is ever so handy ( especially when a house fulll of housework is at hand)
True

enjoy YOUR day scrabs
Hi...I'm back for a few. Just choked again! On coffee this time, so it wasn't too bad.
morning car {{hugs}}
{{carlee}} how did the first couple of days go?
day 1 was good ( I have fridays off)... lots of work...mind boggling really... some days i wish I did hallucinogens so I could wrap my brain around these things...
alas..i do it chemical free
LOL! It might help!
I saw you already had 4 essays?!?!?
yeap...and I still have 2 other classes to get my course outline
i've started one...
GAK!
Any plans this weekend?
housework and homework
you?
Glamorous!
<--- doing the housework part but no homework for me!
hericlitus and whether or not I agree with his concept of logos
Oh boy! And do you, carlee? Do you agree with his concept of logos?
i am not yet sure i fully grasp what he intends for logos to mean...
Wish i could help, but I know nothing of hericlitus
word, account, plan, reckoning, hereclitus is know for word play
Ooooh! I will have to look him up!
later came to mean "god" or concept of an energy without anthropomorphising the common abrahemic version of god
Speak-a dah English, carlee!
his famous fragment is loosly translated " you cannot step in the same river twice".
But you can, can't you?
that one will take a leap of faith
( we attribute human qualities to god...hand of god...we envision him as this great old man with grey beard... etc etc...)
Wait, no, you can't. It moves. It is always different. I get it!
the river is ever moving...the currents ...etc
hi BR! You could probably help carlee with this homework!
hehehe how punny today BR
I beg to differ
I need to take a drink from the river Lithe and all will be well
oh..i will muddle through... i need to mull and ponder...let the grey matter "flow" until i figure out how I will tackle this one...what angle I wish to take..i will likely agree... and throw some weird..left field take on it all
an6?
Hi Shirl! I don't have it yet.
me either...
the name of the river will need to be changed every time it passes a point and the points are forever
a name does not change the river.. i change my name..i am the same....but the change in the river is not dictated by its name
an + the **d of the road + a thoroughfare: **reet
the change in the river means the previous name refers to a different river
Ty BR!
excellent BR
but the river at any time has many names...from many languages...those many names at any given point do nothing to alter the essense of the river... it is the flow of the river that causes the resultant change
thx BR
hi hego!
panta rhei...everything flows... everything moves...everything changes
it does? the river I live next to has had the same name for centuries
But further down the river it may have another name, given to it by local people.
Clue for av5 please
not only that but the perception of the river at one point from many vantages...does not change the essence of the river....it is the river itself that is changing
no
av + the **d* of the earth
then it appears we should change from humans to rivers
anyway... enough of this... the grid...the grid
Fifth Av**ue is a famous street, plural
Ty
te7/28....clue please?
ryhmes with copper currency flask
ty carlee...
sounds like one of Siddhartha's adventures

ok..i need food...and I need to clean a kitchen...i cant put it off any longer... enjoy the day all {{group babble hug}}

All hell is breaking loose here, so I need to go. I wish you all a wonderful day. {{hugs}}

(hey, golfnut! sure is windy here - VERY windy at the top of the hill at whispering pines)
Hi welk
My friend took me golfing yesterday for my 4th ever outing. It was frustrating and I am sore from swinging into the ground so often
i'm no golfer, scrabb - will only play under protest
divot you take lessons scrabs?
Sounds like an under par experience.
i'm not sure what scrabs is driving at
My friend gave me some tips, but I don't want to spend $ on lessons. I am not hooked on golf. It's just fun for me.
Don't tee me off, kids.

Yoo hoo, Dorens. Stacy's were on sale at the grocery store today. : D

i don't know what you mean!! stacy's is not a word with which i am familiar! (shutting ears, lalalala)
always
Doren, how has the start of the school year been so far?
oh scrabbs, heart breaking. two severe calls to dyfs (cps) before ten am on the first day... ongoing serious stuff . hard to get it out of my brain
((((((doren))))))
what's dyfs?
did you know there are no rules concerning homeschooling? so a family that we have real concerns about has decided to take their kid out and homeschool her. she can barely read, going into second grade and they never even made sure her homework was done. and that isn't the worst story
Division of Youth and Family Services. a joke
oh
I think home-schooling people are whacko
Don't they have to be tested periodically?
ditto ru
I agree about home schooling people.
we home schooled for three years because the laws and funding for providing appropriate instruction to children are skewed in such a way that students who could do better but are currently performing near grade level don't receive assistance.
i can't even tell you the other story. am just waiting until thursday to see whether a judge can undo the harm that has been done and let these four kids go to their father instead of their psychopathic mother. right now she actually has a restraining order so they can't even talk to him
I don't think so,,, to get into college they would have to past some test
Hi Sea, Stid.
don't know about testing.. think just for high school diploma
my sil does home schooling for two of the boys and they are not socialized kids.. very sad and scary
Hi Scrabbs...everyone
once in a while i've seen it work. not often
Gemini.. George Bush got into college.. nuff said
I greatly admire my homeschooling parents that I encounter in my office. And the kids are ambitious, mature for their age, etc. Very impressive.
kk!!
oh he probably went to exeter or andover as well
Kids who are home schooled are often lacking in social skills. It makes sense, they are isolated from their peers.
and I didn't.........
It would take a lot of dedication for sure
we have a lot of home schooled kids in KS.... we also have the Westboro Baptist Church.....
Different states have different rules. My children were not well served in the school they were going to. "Socializing" kids is a poor reason for keeping children in a school that lacks the will and facilities to provide what the children need. The homeschooling parents I know (who are NOT doing so for religious reasons) are careful to provide rich experiences for their children and, as we did, have a group of families that get together periodically.
serious good homeschoolers can pool together with others, network, go to field trips etc. it does happen
Well, there you go Gemini. : D
just saying
Homeschool kids are typically in group activities--PE classes, clubs, study groups/classes etc. Often being with peers at school is the worst exposure for bright, hard-working kids that get bored.
Center e?
i agree scrabb.. sometimes the peers are the problem
I guess that means gifted and talented classes don't work then.
en5/10
good morning all :)
centre e: en 5
AP classes?
morning nan. and as far as g/t. sometimes they do. depends on the program and the teacher
Most elementary schools no longer have g & T programs or enrichment classes. I see so many young, bright kids being undereducated.
*hands fish to kje*
I didn't start G & T programs till highschool scrabs
parents need to step up in those cases... there was no g/t in our district when jeremy was in elementary school. we got by
I had a gifted child that got herself into the speech therapy class.... fooled the tester......
Ty
but then that was Gin and Tonic classes
7th grade for me, ru. And I had speech therapy in 2nd grade because I talked like Elmer Fudd then
"gifted and talented" classes are not always the best choice for students who are academically advanced; not all students who shine as homeschoolers (because they can follow their passions, often for arts or mechanics) do well in academic settings. AP classes, magnet schools etc often are available only in large urban areas (there are none actually local to our family, for example), and generally only at the high school level.
scrabs was drinking gin an tonics in 7th grade??
hahah
I have learned so much from homeschooling parents, about how to really educate kids.
Haha, no gin & tonic for me.
HB, Scrabbler & hi all!
How is little Miss2bit?
As a teacher, I also have issues with reserving the "interesting" content and methods for only students with a certain IQ -- the research shows that the types of activities provided to so-called gifted and talented students is highly beneficial to all students. In addition, there is a sense for many parents and students who are in those programs that somehow those students are better people... they lose the ability to see the many talents and skills of regular folks.
hey dan
I agree, Stid. Every kid has strengths, passions, interests, etc.
amen stidmama
she is watching a Sid the Science Kid video on the ipad on the floor, and doing yoga as directed
excellent teachers can see that and help all kids... unfortunately we don't have that many excellent teachers
I am envious of her perfect downward dog :-)
I bet that's just cuteness overload, dan!
oh dan, that is cute... she is definitely not baby2bit anymore tho, miss2bit is more apt. or apter
yes, miss2bit is a constant challenge to my cuteness immune system :-)
and, she knows how to (try to) use it when she would otherwise be in trouble :-)
rofl... kids! they are master manipulators!
She's doing yoga? That must be too adorable!

and hello again, the seminar is fascinating, but I am struggling to keep focus (as predicted)
I don't remember the spelling: sut mae?
(sounds like shoe my)
have you seen the ken robinson seminar on TED? it's all about education and how we are trying to make a system set up in the industrail revolution work in the computer age...
sut mae is corrct
yes! that is a marvelous presentation -- I am probably due to revisit that one... yippee! I remembered something right!
dw i'n iawn, diolch, sut wy ti?
i loved the cartoons thta went woith his words
iawn, diolch. :-D
it's sunny today, and will be HOT again. I have about thirty minutes of this seminar. back in a moment.
oh! and I decided to play with unit planning, going slowly, but thinking about having kids learn about castles and compare and contrast with modern structures. There is a curriculum from Michigan's (some state in that part of the country) architect association about architecture, and it got me thinking that I could integrate art, math, science, history, geography, language... when talking about castles through time and place. I much prefer integrated studies.
children could compare castles with their own homes - similarities and differences
exactly!
and consider why their houses are built in a particular location and why castles were built in their locations
and why there are differences... (we don't normally have trebuchets aimed at our battlements) and how availability of materials dictates some of the structures as well
yep!
we call integrated studies 'teaching through topics'
edward I understood the power of symbolism so he built Beaumaris castle right in the centre of the view the Welsh princes had at Abergwyngregyn
unfortunately at the moment, unless I get very very lucky, schools are being pushed into less integration and toward very regimented, scripted curricula
oh! he was thumbing his nose at them!
He built the walls of Caernarfon castle to look like the walls of Constantinople, even though that meant he had to have several different kinds of stone to create the 'bands' (stripes)
but I can dream, and plan -- gwyn -- something about white hills?
he thumbed his nse quite clearly LOL - and he even moved an entire thriving village 15 miles west so he could build that castle there
aber= river mouth/confluence, gwyn=white
gregwyn = i am not sure but it 'feels' like craggy
stuck on 2 7's: te 7 (following the aboriginal shelter) and tw 7/64 - any clues, please?

WOW. teacher-friends, have you heard about "international dot day?" It's an idea from a book by Peter Reynolds. So many amazing, creative and productive ways to get kids thinking and working together.
later glantarell
will download his handbook on the web site - different activity , i nade a monthly calendar with a special day marked for each date - took 5 - 10 minutes to talk about each - birthdays of famous people, inventions, special days - challenged kids to research one they were interested in

the pe7/8
pe8/45 plural of pe7/32 -- mountain range, i believe
pe + there is bu**** in some lighters
aaahh you beat me! LOL
one pe8 is the plural of a mountain range in the UK... another is pe4/5 + an4/4
Another ends in number after eight
and the third is a slight variant of the second...
that's the mountain range
that is the only one I have Molly

Okay, I'm stepping out. Plenty of people here lurking who have dropped in to clue.

and now it is time for crossy,s tidbit of the day!! today i have for you what is believed to be the most relaxing song ever. scientists found the song was even more relaxing than a massage, walk or cup of tea. So relaxing is the tune, apparently, that people are being advised against listening to it while driving.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMmMNyT wePY
Thanx crossy, I downloaded it and am listening now.May be my excuse not to finish Babble today..lol

Ty!
we have GRant's girlfriend's birds over for a playdate with Grant's birds. His female was being really mean, so she is in the cage and the other three are out playing on the jungle gym. Grant and girlfriend are out picking blackberries for dessert...
I quit with see you all tomorrow
Great clue, Molly.
later science.
laffing that it was the female being mean. Our beautiful fixed male cat keeps getting beaten up by a female.
stid, I loved that heatbag too so I made myself another one just like it and ending up making a bunch to give as gifts. it was fun
the females are the worst... *sigh* very dominant in budgies
I am really appreciating it, thank you again and again.

short for Mr Hawthorne
wow. Grant's male budgie is making the most elaborate speech I have ever heard him make... some chirpy sounds I haven't heard him do ever.
***haniel Harry
or N + past tense of what you do with food
ty :)
now the girlfriend's male is speechifying too. it's like sitting in the middle of an aviary!
and then dead silence... i am trying to learn their language, but it's slow going. I think they are just establishing precedence vocally.
it might be easier to get them to learn your language Stid (though I never had any luck teaching my budgies to talk)
apparently when there are more than one, they don't usually take the time to learn human. And females often don't learn human anyway.
it might just be that he is showing off and the others recognise it doesn't make any sense but are being polite....
I don't mind learning their language, but I am not familiar with this species. rofl bugs you are probably exactly correct -- but they are now reproducing each others' patterns a little bit. It's like they are experimenting with how their instruments work.
What is amazing to me is how mean Grant's female was when we had them all together. Now she is in the cage alone she is sitting as close as she can get (we are in another room) and looking longingly at the others!
that happens with kids too. :)
oh boy, Grant just let Lucky in. OH well, as long as the birds don't move from where they are, they are safe...
cud be the end of two romances if things don't go well...
true that, bugs!
now the kids are inside though and they will take over the bird care. :-)
....sounds like budgie for dinner... if lucky's a cat
lucky's a dog, and budgie for appetizer.... what wine would you recommend, mr sommelier?
all .. a nice riesling .. goes great with budgie
all .. a nice riesling .. goes great with budgie

i was reading the news about a Utah mom who was potty training her two little kids in the middle of a restaurant

I couldn't believe it.. amazing
breast feeding is one thing.. but... jeez
It goes in the Stupid People file. How could anyone think that is an okay thing to do?
"how's your chicken fried steak hun?"
I'm not a fan of overt breast feeding in public. There are plenty of ways to do it discreetly.
hey jilly
I'll bet anything she let her kids smoke in the restaurant too
And she didn't use organic diapers, or wipes.
Speaking of organic Ru, have you seen the Geico commercial with Gallagher at the farmer's market?
