1:43 am

maes is often in the grid - no idea what it's meaning is in english - it's welsh for place/field

1:47 am

I don't have a meaning for it - Mae is a girls name

1:48 am

there is another welsh word which i often see in the grid too, but i can't bring it to mind just now - it always makes me smile when i see it

1:49 am

wrth means with/about

1:49 am

crwth?

1:50 am

thanks gort, that's the one I was trying to remember

1:50 am

crwth is an ancient string instrument, precursor to the lyre

still waiting, hun. see surgeon next tuesday. *shrug* i'm quite happy to sit ere and wait.

2:15 am

oh, you're off until he orders the shortened hours?

2:16 am

yes, flosey. i'm not going back until i get the shortened hours. he is standing firm on that.

2:16 am

glad to hear it rose,

2:17 am

it's not my surgeon who is holding up the works...it's the D.O.N. she keeps blabbering on about duty of care as this is supposed to be a non-work related injury.

2:17 am

I may have been told that, losing memory as I age

2:19 am

also do Lumosity program, it's good for memory and cognitive issues

2:19 am

unfortunately for her, my surgeon, who is the medical director, is in quite agreeance with how my fractured ankle, subsequent weight gain, and the accelerated degeneration of my knee are all tied together.

2:20 am

so if she doesn't agree to a graduated return to work program, she is going to cost the company mega bucks.

2:22 am

wow, are you anxious to get back? or is this a much appreciated relief

2:22 am

seems to be it would still be pretty uncombortable

2:23 am

nah, i can wait it out. it's been lovely being at home with himself.

2:23 am

let's try "uncomfortable" here

2:23 am

getting very tired

2:23 am

yes, flosey, it can be. i tried hydro last monday with no oxycodone on board. it was a bad decision.

Hi am I showing in chat?

Hi am I showing in chat?

3:05 am

Yes

thank you

3:11 am

Hi all

hi dianne

3:11 am

Hello, Diane

Hi how do I tell if I am doing good or not on a puzzle?

3:20 am

Well if you find 140 words you are doing great.

ok thanks I think I understand it

And after 20 hours a new puzzle goes up?

3:21 am

Yes.

so there's a new puzzle every 24hours?

ok thank you

i just found this site tonight

3:22 am

In this one there at 3 nine letter words, 2 eight letter words and 16 seven letter words to find.

Ah yes I see that under Word Stats area thank you

wise

error wrong typing spot sorry

3:23 am

That's o.k. We all do it.

3:24 am

Take a look at "Help" above

3:25 am

How was the trip to China, Dianne?

3:26 am

It was o.k. I was just there for about 3 1/2 hours.

3:29 am

Today I was at the American Consulate to renew my passport. They use to be able to do it here for you but now they have to send it to the states to be done so it takes a couple of weeks to get it.

3:31 am

More bureaucratic nonsense.

3:34 am

You also use to be able to keep your old passport but now you must surrender your old one to get the new one.

3:43 am

I have understood Hong Kong to be one city. The article I read mentioned cities in Hong Kong .... with the dense population .... are there signs telling travelers of the boundaries? .... when you leave one city for another?

3:45 am

good morning, Babble friends

3:45 am

Hello, sprite

3:46 am

hello BabbleRabble, am happy to see you. Today here is windy but with lots of sun. Sending some rays your way.

3:46 am

Rather innocuous grid again.

hi sprite

3:47 am

hm... ok... sounds innocent enough... but then again, who needs innocent at our age...

3:47 am

It's one city made up of different districts. There are many heavily populated districts, MongKok being the most populated.

Babble you must be a genius then. :)

I have only found 89 so far

3:48 am

hello Amiamirande! Not sure we met before... if not: welcome to the madness!

3:48 am

89 is pretty good, actually.

Thanks I just got here tonight

3:48 am

And yes, BabbleRabble is scarily smart.

Googling Boggle/ramble scramble type games

3:48 am

Not so

3:49 am

Amiamirande, take a look at Lickety's Babble Clues below

3:50 am

then you came to the right place. Unless you want to have heavy competition and fast gaming. But if you are a word nut, or word nerd, you will find many of your ilk here.

I like Match Boggle and Boggle Bash on Pogo but tire of the ads. I like this site.

3:51 am

Diane, since Hong Kong has a lot of self-governance ... do you need your passport to go from Hong Kong to the mainland?

3:51 am

so do I :D

3:52 am

HongKong must be so incredibly huge.

3:54 am

ello sprite and BR, and welcome amia

3:54 am

locals don't need a passport. Americans need a passport and a China visa (which is expensive) to go to the mainland.

3:55 am

*hello* and g'day dianne

hi Rose thank you

3:55 am

ok... you know you are having a dense day when you try the word for making bird sounds with your mouth several times before realising it starts wH...

3:55 am

rose! *hugs* How are you today? And how is the battle with the Wicked Witch progressing?

3:56 am

lol, sprite....poor girl. going ok, thanx. still waiting to hear from her.

3:56 am

So now you cannot get to the mainland until your passport is renewed in the US and returned?

3:57 am

Hello, Rose

3:57 am

good. She is probably thinking how to phrase things so she won't appear defeated.

3:57 am

They let me keep my current passport until the new

Lickety's clue site just helped me get 2 more words thanks for the suggestion.

3:58 am

how come we can be a polyglot but not a glot?

3:58 am

yup, so right, sprite. i would so like to be a fly on the wall....ah, well. if she wants to pay me to sit on my butt, so be it.

3:58 am

wtg Amia!

3:59 am

let's try again - until the new one arrives. But you are right in a sense because I would not spent the money for a single journey visa. I'll wait for the new passport and get a year long visa.

4:00 am

now amia, you need to find enable dictionary, down load it, and you're on your way. mind you, if BR is here, who needs enable? LOL

4:00 am

Amia, Babble will probably have some words you never heard of, because it uses a rather old version of the Enable dictionary. Quite interesting, grin.

:)

4:00 am

true, rose! Nobody clues like BabbleRabble. Well, maybe Haz.

4:01 am

There are many good cluers

91 so far

is using the clue site um...cheating?

lol

4:01 am

true, BabbleRabble, but some are better than others :)

4:01 am

Amia, I will tell you what Atalanta told me when I started: Looking up the actual words with a solver is cheating. All the rest is research.

4:01 am

it has a lot of scottish words, so if you ave read sir walter scott's rob roy, you will probably know half the enable words.

4:02 am

h

I have not read it.

4:02 am

happy h to you too, PMS ;)

4:02 am

Depends on your perspective, Amiamirande. No one forces you to use Lickety

But thanks for the heads up on scottish words.

4:03 am

and if Lickety would force you to use Lickety, would that be rape?

4:03 am

despotism

4:03 am

i usually wait until i have been through the grid at least once, amia, before i use the list. and i have enable shortcut on my desk top. sad isn't it?

4:04 am

scots words, all kinds of obscure animals (today the hairy-nosed dolphin), scrubs and trees, and wonderful obsolete words like ywis.

nah whatever floats your boat I say :)

life is short

4:04 am

I can live with despotism. As long as it is not rape. What... what did I say?? No way I can live with despotism!

4:05 am

Coercion is a better word

4:06 am

people have developed all kind of personal rules, Amia. Some don't use clues, others try to get a word for every tile and/or for every word length in as few as possible words, some play till halfway or 3/4 before using clues. I always think that as long as your fun does not ruin that of others, everything that makes it fun for you is cool.

4:06 am

Coercion. Ok. I am certainly guilty of that, so I can live with that ;)

4:08 am

Hi all. As a 6 week newcomer, I really like what you wrote sprite. What does the hairy nosed dolphin begin with pls?

4:08 am

lol, what sprite says is so true, amia. what you will find here, is that we are all one big family. sometimes we disagree, most times we joke and help each other along.

aye I just found the word "arris" using the clues....never would have guessed that on my own

Must. Look. Up. Definition.

4:08 am

Amiamirande, the owner of the site, Dr_God, has not published terms of use or a code of conduct ... he believes people can work out their differences .... of course there a differences of opinion ... and factions ...

4:08 am

hi Lizlin! the dolphin is in4

4:09 am

hey liz, how has your day been?

4:09 am

Ty - will look for it now

4:09 am

oh, Amia... we try never to post words from the grid in the chat, so that other people can find them on their own if they want :)

4:09 am

Wet granny rose. Not GC weather!

4:09 am

um, amia, we try to not mention words in the grid in the chog.

4:10 am

Please do not put words in the chat .... that is one rule almost all agree on ..... even though it happens inadvertently quite frequently

Hi Lizlin

Nice to meet you

4:10 am

Fine really - cooking then gym

Oh I'm sorry. I won't do that again.

4:10 am

No need to be concerned, Amiamirande. Just a heads up

4:11 am

no problem, Amia! It happens, even to hardcore Babblers.

4:11 am

it mostly happens when we have been chatting, then forgot to switch to the grid before entering a word.

4:11 am

Hi amiamirande - this is a great site. Lovely people here but I won't let them hear me say that!

4:11 am

hah... lovely no less! *looks mean*

4:12 am

too late, liz....i heard you....i'm gonna te-ll on you.

4:12 am

My hubby's ex wife introduced me to the grid - no regrets. No I really do like the people I've met :)

4:13 am

Babble is a good community. Not perfect, but definitely very good.

4:14 am

Time for dinner, so have a good day or evening, wherever you are. Back tomorrow.

4:14 am

jeez BabbleRabble... your innocuous grid kind of makes me feel dumb. Not even halfway and already having to work for words.

bye Liz take care

4:14 am

enjoy dinner, Lizlin!

4:15 am

Ty bye all

4:16 am

Phantom: Apophasis (Late Latin, from Greek ἀπόφασις from ἀποφάναι—apophanai, "to say no"[1]) refers, in general, to "mention by not mentioning".

4:17 am

:D Love it. According to my love, I am quite good at that.

4:18 am

Like I have said several times, I like to find the words I cannot find first so I do not have to bother with them later

4:18 am

and then you still tell me you are not scarily smart!

4:19 am

My intentions do not always work

Well may I ask how sad you are BabbleRabble? Most extremely smart people I meet are sad.

4:20 am

something about the road to hell, isn't there, with intentions?

Sad as in melancholy/depressed/mood...

4:22 am

this grid is seriously riddled with phantoms

4:24 am

I have my moments, Amiamirande. I do have a chronic illness .... but do not think of myself as sad .... shame encompasses much of my medical malidies

I am sorry to hear it.

4:25 am

Have to do what I can and never quit

4:25 am

*grabs another bunch of rays of sun and sends them of to BabbleRabble*

Amen

4:25 am

I so wish shame wouldn't be part of it :(

4:26 am

BR, there is no shame attached to you or your condition. you are an exceptionally gifted man. and i am proud to say you are my friend.

We have our heat on actually.

4:26 am

Thanks, sprite

4:26 am

I second rose wholeheartedly

I don't know your condition but feeling shame never feels good.

4:27 am

it is cold here atm, Amia, but sunny. I always do better on sunny days.

I am a night owl lately so its after 5 in the morning for me. But still dark out

4:28 am

which country are you from, Amia?

USa

4:29 am

5 am? Lol, that is not covered by 'night owl'. That sounds like night shifts and/or insomnia!

4:29 am

I prize this Ted talk by Brene Brown very much: http://tinyurl.com/2besfwh

Oh its a long sad story.

4:29 am

Thanks, Rose, for the kind words

4:30 am

np's BR. they come from the heart.

4:30 am

How is Tim doing, sprite

Wow what a great site. Thanks for the url BabbleRabble. Never seen this site. Interesting videos.

4:32 am

oh, you shared that link before! A wonderful talk. That lady rocks.

Yes I agree. Being able to connect is what we are here for.

4:33 am

BabbleRabble: Tim is doing ok. He is going through a tough part of adolescence, which means we do too... but the foundation is good. He tr5. And so do we. Big mouths and bad attitude moderated by love and humour ;)

4:34 am

Amia: if you ever feel like sharing your story, please do, I'd be honoured to hear. But if you don't, please know that even though you can share here, you never need to :)

Never considered that shame is fear of disconnection. I like this site

I so need this right now in my life thanks again

4:35 am

This is a Brit site akin to TED: http://www.thersa.org/

4:35 am

Good to hear, sprite

4:35 am

insightful, isn't she! I like her. She knows how to tell it too.

Thanks Sprite. My story is not really long and not really sad I just make it that way I guess.

4:36 am

thanks for caring, BabbleRabble.

I am pessimistic and its a hard habit to break for me.

Yes thank you for the links. Its just what I needed tonight.

4:37 am

not easy to handle, I think, Amia :(

For example: I have been up all night and will sleep all day today because my ex-fiance is asleep in the only bed right now and he will be up all day so then I will sleep.

Not really sad just kind of pathetic. We are together due to finances but not together at all really.

Staying on is making it harder for me.

4:39 am

hmmmm.... another story in there, isn't there

4:39 am

amia, whether you believe in it or not. by whatever name you want to call, you were sent to us for a reason. and you have now found out why. :)

Thanks rose and sprite and babblerabble

4:40 am

if you cannot make a clean break, things are always tougher. Well, at least we can offer some distraction :)

:)

4:41 am

lol, sprite, that's one word...distraction....hmmmm

I never thought I'd be so emotional over a break-up. So many people split after much longer than my measly 8 years. I feel like someone has died though. Random crying bouts. Maybe I am just rolling in pity.

4:42 am

perhaps, these links will be of interest to you, Amiamirande: http://tinyurl.com/yglkht\nr http://tinyurl.com/4uvnmx6

Thanks Babble

The first link doesn't work

But the cognitive distortion link looks good, thanks

4:45 am

You are grieving, Amiamirande http://tinyurl.com/p7d68

That article is just for me I think. Thanks so much.

4:46 am

oh my... that puts my about right on my crate, lol. 3 things I'd like to say to that, Amia... 1. 8 years is not measly at all, it is at least 10% of our lives. You must have invested a lot. 2. You are emotional because you are grieving. Don't beat yourself up about it, be nice to yourself! and 3. I am sorry you have to go through this. Strength and peace and light on your way.

4:46 am

try this one: http://tinyurl.com/yglkhtr

Thank you so much to all of you.

4:47 am

hello

4:48 am

hi rubyfoo :)

hi ruby nice to meet you

4:48 am

8 years are not to be sneezed at, amia. a lot has been shared by you both. i'm so sorry you have to go through this. grief is exactly what you are going through, my dear. cry as much as you want. it is not just your relationship which is gone, but the future you had envisaged sharing together has also gone.

4:48 am

Hello, Ruby

4:49 am

{{{ruby}}}, sweetheart. did you get my last email?

4:51 am

I'M NOT SURE {{ROSE}}. tHINGS ARE PRETTY AWFUL AROUND HERE. tODAY bURT SAID THAT HE IS SORRY HE MARRIED ME....HARD TO PUT THAT GENIE BACK IN THE BOTTLE

That is how I feel Rose, good way of putting it. And I do feel the dreams are gone, mainly the dream of children too because our ages were so...important, for lack of a better word. I just don't want to wallow in self-pity and be such a pathetic crier. This has been going on for me now for 2 weeks. I can't sleep in the same bed because I unconsciously snuggle in my sleep. I still call him Sweetie totally unconsciously. In 8 years I practically never said his name. He seems to be doing so much better than me with this.

4:51 am

aw ruby :(

4:52 am

whoops didn't mean to shout,

Oh ruby. Sounds similar to my problems. Sorry to hear it.

4:52 am

Sorry, Ruby.

4:52 am

meanwhile, I am still slogging through paperwork and Ruby has the squits, so I've been cleaning up dog poop since 7AM!

4:52 am

oh, ruby, sweetie, i am so sorry burt is being such a pain.

4:53 am

and last night I developed a new allergy , peanuts (very common, I guess, but at my age???) and that made things much worse

4:53 am

letting your grief out is not wallowing in self-pity, Amia. Two weeks is nothing. If you can grief now, and allow yourself to feel what you feel, it will really help pyou later on.

wow :(

4:53 am

B is useless in an emergency, but I called emergency and they walked me through it

4:53 am

aagghh, ruby, will it never end??

4:54 am

that is 3 new allegries in the past 10 years, how weird is that?

strange

4:54 am

that is nasty, ruby. How are you now?

4:54 am

can stress cause allegries?

4:54 am

once it's over, it's over, and I got a new shot of adrenalin to keep in the fridge

stress can cause itchy hives and sweating

not sure about the rest

4:55 am

not directly, but indirectly it can. If you have dormant allergies, or preconditions, stress can bring them out in the open.

4:55 am

amia, i have been there....in your place, i mean. and that was after 17 years of marriage and 3 sons. so i know exactly what you are going through.

4:55 am

hives EVERWHERE, but when I started to wheeze and couldn't catch my breath, I git scoared

4:55 am

got* scared*

thanks rose...i am just so regretful I never had children

4:56 am

yes, ruby, stress can trigger a lot of allergies. just take your antihistamine and hydrocortisone(prednisolone) if you have any.

4:56 am

that sounds scary indeed. Better keep that sh* of adrenaline handy.

4:56 am

shot

4:56 am

lol

4:56 am

Ruby: allergies and stress: http://tinyurl.com/96xlryl

4:56 am

he was so nasty, that I sent him off to lunch alone

4:57 am

amia, don't be regretful. it was no fun trying to bring up 3 children with no support/help from their father.

i regret wasting my time with this sterile man now and I'm 41 and my fertility is gone....and I'm being dumped.

4:57 am

very good, ruby. Keep your self-worth even when he is being nasty. I wi4 he kept his :(

4:59 am

ah, no way, amia. your life is now just beginning. you are a very precious person, lift your chin, sweetie. you are going to get through this.

4:59 am

I can understand your regret about children a bit, Amia. It must be tough to know the choice has been taken from you. As for the regret for wasting your time... I think time is never wasted. You learned a lot. But right now it must feel like a waste indeed.

I do have a bright side: next month I'm going to another state to help with my great nephew and he is 3 weeks old :) I will love that.

4:59 am

you will love it and cry your heart out, I bet. *hug*

5:04 am

okay my last post disappeared into cyberspace. amia, from personal experience, i know you will receive love and support from this community

thank you...my last post vanished too

i'm so glad i found this site tonight

5:06 am

there is no such thing as coincidence :)

5:06 am

Ruby left.

:) Two hours spent talking with people I've never met and I feel so much better.

5:07 am

perhaps her husband came home, BabbleRabble.

5:07 am

I worry about her.

5:08 am

glad to hear it, Amia :) Babble is usually a good place for that.

5:08 am

same here, BabbleRabble. I worry about them both.

5:08 am

BR, i am talking with her via email. i worry for her too. and yes, she has logged off. i do hope all is ok.

I hope I see you all again tonight. Thanks so much for all the kind words and listening. I'm giving in at 93 words for now :)

So nice to meet you all, take care.

5:14 am

good job, Amia! I hope you sleep well. See you soon.

thanks I hope to come back tonight. byebye for now

5:16 am

sleep well, amia. rest easy knowing we will be here for you tomorrow.

5:33 am

got the red squares of death and lost my connection. Too much whining, I guess

5:34 am

hi ruby! We worried about you. BabbleRabble and rose and me.

5:34 am

I just sent you an e-mail, sprite

5:34 am

oh, good, glad all is ok now, with babble i mean.

5:34 am

checking

5:35 am

and sent husband off to eat lucnch alone. I don't see why I have to go with someone who says he doesn't even like me any more

5:36 am

so true, ruby. it's so hard to stand apart from what is happening, i'm sure. burt is not the man you married, ruby.

5:36 am

I know I'm different, too, but you can't say stuff like that

5:37 am

Sure he can, Ruby .... there are no consequences for his behavior

5:40 am

no, ruby, you can't. not without facing the consequences. that is, if you are in your right mind. ruby, burt isn't in his right mind.

5:40 am

I shall pray, Ruby

5:41 am

ty, BR, I am touched

5:41 am

Burt doesn't see any consequences, says ist's all because I am nasty

5:47 am

I think you are doing the right thing by sending him off alone when he is treating you badly, ruby. Don't let him walk all over you, because that will make it worse.

5:48 am

I just heard doors slamming, so he's back (already) from lunch. I'll bet he was embarrassed in the resto where we always for on Thurs

5:48 am

go for lunch (weird shorthand?)

5:48 am

probably. So there is a consequence.

5:52 am

all I can say is, thank God there is a place like this to come to, with caring friends!

5:52 am

always. Email back at ye.

5:53 am

good morning all

5:53 am

gm smores

5:54 am

hiya smores

5:54 am

hey smores

5:54 am

just read through chat... {hugs} ruby

5:54 am

did you see my post re flicker last night, smores?

5:54 am

ty smores

5:55 am

no rose I missed it

5:55 am

ruby, have you ever recorded his behavior?

5:55 am

there'd be no point

5:56 am

his MD doesn't speak English and we are not part of the health system here

5:56 am

I'm sure everybody thinks he's a nice guy with a bi***y wife!

5:57 am

I think they all know things are a little more complicated than that, ruby

5:57 am

smores, if you go into your account, down the bottom is a link to flicker. all you have to do is enter your user name for flicker, and babble and flicker are linked.

5:58 am

he can be quite charming, just ask Sp[rite!

5:59 am

sorry, got the red squares

6:00 am

I had them a little while ago, smores, very odd

6:00 am

yes, seems ok now

6:01 am

just read back through, even if others doesn't speak english, record it anyway

6:02 am

It may help for him to see his own behaviour

6:02 am

Ruby, you are a good person. Every now and then, look in the mirror and remind yourself.

6:03 am

I know, BR, he hasn't hurt my self-esteem, just makes me feel sad for both of us

6:04 am

it is really sad.

6:04 am

I think our getting married and moving here was a great idea, even if he now says he regrets it. I don't think he really does. He certainly wasn't happy in any of his past marriages (3!!!!)

6:04 am

<-- married to Bluebeard, lol

6:05 am

I do know someone that this helped - sometimes people don't realize how bad they are until hearing it

6:05 am

oh, you mean play it back to him.....

6:05 am

It is very obvious you love Burt a lot .. I fear his behavior will only get worse.

6:06 am

I'm not so sure any more, BR, there are just so many things that can be said before Humpty Dumpty is in too many pieces

6:07 am

<------getting scissors and razor for ruby :)

6:07 am

?? smores

6:07 am

for the bluebeard thing

6:08 am

aaah, missed that. slightly obtuse today

6:08 am

sick Ruby is lying here next to me, doesn't realize she smells like poop! Gotta live dogs

6:09 am

Which, at the risk of being offensive, is why I have been urging you to prepare for the worst. He does the shopping. What if he gets to the point he not share the food? Who controls the money?

6:09 am

love*

6:09 am

the money is joint, so that's not a worry. But he is incapable of cooking for himself or even for the dogs, for that matter

6:09 am

have to get my duaghter up and going - brb

6:09 am

bye smores

6:10 am

but a joint account is a problem ... he can empty it

6:10 am

so far, there is no issue about money

6:10 am

I have enough in my name plus the house is totally mine; he can't touch it

6:10 am

I will shush

6:11 am

Can I, very very carefully, say that this is about a relationship between two people? There is a lot more to it than Burt being a very difficult man, which he is. But it is more complicated than that.

6:11 am

<-- loves BR!!!!! don't shush

6:12 am

yeah, I think you offer very valuable and practical advice, BabbleRabble. Don't shush.

6:12 am

sprite, I know that this is partly my fault, but he certainly makes it much harder and there is no possibility of talking

6:13 am

am not talking about fault, hun! Definitely not. And yes, he is not easy to talk with and he can be very unkind and unreasonable.

6:14 am

but things have grown this way between the two of you and that is a complicated matter. Just blaming Burt isn't doing either of you justice. Please forgive me for saying so.

6:15 am

I know that, but it's gotten beyound the point of healing, especially since he won't talk about whatever are the core issues

6:18 am

all I can say, dear Ruby, is to stand up for yourself. Remember he is dependent on you and the damage he has suffered in life makes him into someone who hates to be dependent, who fears it even... he is being nasty to you because of it, and he does not have that right. Letting him get away with it won't do any good... you know it is so. *hug*

6:20 am

I have fireflies. Time for me to attend to the laundry and Terra. Loved the grid, and found the chat very valuable today. Thanks, BabbleRabble, for giving so much of yourself. *hugs* for you, Ruby, take care and keep in touch. Bye all!

Hells Canyon is a 10-mile (16 km) wide canyon located along the border of eastern Oregon, eastern Washington and western Idaho in the United States. It is North America's deepest river gorge[3] at 7,993 feet (2,436 m)[4] and part of the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area.

What is the world’s longest canyon? If you are about to say ‘Grand Canyon‘ then you are correct…kinda. You have the right name…almost, but more than likely, the wrong country. What is the world’s deepest canyon? You might think it is Peru’s Colca Canyon. Em, that answer is correct before 1994, but now? At first, I am intending to make a post about the canyons around the world. However after my research, I decided to talk about only one canyon instead, which is claimed as the longest as well as the deepest canyon in the world (So I just called it the largest canyon in the world). It is “The Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon” from China. It is 496.3 kilometers long, 56.3 kilometers longer than the Colorado Grand Canyon, previously considered the world’s longest. And it is 5,382 meters deep, much deeper than the 3,200 meters of Peru’s Colca Canyon, previously known as the world’s deepest canyon. The canyon is in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and around the highest peak of east Himalayas-Namjiagbarwa peak (7,787 meters above sea level), forming a huge horseshoe-shaped turn.

7:50 am

Valles Marineris (Latin for Mariner Valleys, named after the Mariner 9 Mars orbiter of 1971–72 which discovered it) is a system of canyons that runs along the Martian surface east of the Tharsis region. At more than 4,000 km long, 200 km wide and up to 7 km deep,[1][2] the Valles Marineris rift system is one of the larger canyons of the Solar System, surpassed only by the rift valleys of Earth and (in length only) by Baltis Vallis on Venus.

7:51 am

now we are covered for the solar system:)

I like windows/dos better than apple os for mucking about, but love the stability of apple. Android has potential, but within 6 months of my G1 being on the market android was no longer developing for it, and within a year they were not really supporting it. I won't get another android device until they commit to better long-term support. If I had my druthers I would use linux, but so many of the applications used in schools require either windows or mac.

8:58 am

Yeah, it's not hard at all to get surprisingly powerful weaponry.

8:58 am

8:59 am

Yeah, we just have a 2 week waiting period and a background check.

8:59 am

9:00 am

9:01 am

9:01 am

9:01 am

9:02 am

I could have a gun in my hands legally registered to me in two weeks if I had any desire to do so, but them if I shoot myself and don't have health insurance... Sean goes bankrupt or dies, lol

9:02 am

here, for a handgun, first off you must be a P.I.a officer of the law,a customs agent,a ministry officer.take many courses, and you must apply seperate for concealed permit.if i use for gun club/target range i must phone the police tell then where i am going with it,how long ill be there,my estimated return time and sign in at my local station

9:02 am

yes and i'm IN connecticut.

9:02 am

(accidental shooting)

9:03 am

lol sean

9:03 am

Of course, in some places you can take your gun with you everywhere you go

9:03 am

just like the old west eh? lol

9:03 am

except on the plane, the one place we are sensible about guns.

9:03 am

I know that you're a fellow nutmegger hurshy

9:04 am

There are some gun toters who feel they should be able to take their gun on a plane

9:04 am

9:05 am

Clue for the last oc5/14?

I think is sort of what she was asking....

9:09 am

we are canadian first,ontarian second

9:09 am

yay, Judi!

9:10 am

What about Ontario and Quebec? Do you feel that together you are one, or quite different?

9:10 am

I mean, I know I'm american and all, but it doesn't come up too much. Mostly have to report to the state.

9:10 am

take myself and a inuit man from a villiage 300 miles above the permafrost and we are canadian first

9:10 am

oh some of the quebec people want to secede i know that

9:11 am

I feel close to MA and lower NY, but not at all with NH

9:12 am

Yeah hurshy, and Texas and Cali would do the same if they could.

9:14 am

bichon, from OH, if I go south one state, it's a totally different feeling in KY, same goes for north east or west.

9:14 am

some do hurshy, but it is a tempest in a teacup as far a quebec seperation goes

9:15 am

well, i am a quebecer first and canadian second.

9:15 am

lol,mon13

9:17 am

many quebecers will say that

9:17 am

Me too monty... except Ohioan first and American second.

9:17 am

remember last referendum crosshair: 50.something vs 49. something = more than a tempest in a tea cup...

9:17 am

of course some albertans will say let the easten bastards freeze in the dark, but over all we are canadian

9:17 am

still not finding the br9 - any further help appreciated, ty

9:18 am

as long as you pay your share of the nation debt before you go;)

9:18 am

but babble is not the place for political debate ...

9:18 am

I feel that CT embraces things I hold dear: same sex marriage, health insurance for children and more

9:18 am

no

9:18 am

rbud, if you are angry your hair may bre br 9

9:18 am

New York State does the same bichon

9:19 am

Are we having an intra-Canadian fight here?

9:19 am

As long as its casual discussion and note debate, I think we're safe.

9:19 am

Hi all

9:19 am

br + you ain't just wh******* Dixie

9:19 am

Yess, Annie and that's where I came from

9:19 am

ahhhh, ty! was trying to make the Brer Rabbit br5 work

9:19 am

9:20 am

Everytime I visit my in-laws in VA I feel like it's a foreign country

9:20 am

S and I are not in agreement I still feel I am an American first and a New Yorker second. We are a whole.

9:20 am

many quebecers have strong thoughts on this issue, did not mean to take it too lightly mon13

9:20 am

*Waves at Bich from down in foreign country land*

9:22 am

bichon, (cant type today) The states have always had major differences

9:22 am

Just got An7 and 8

9:23 am

Molly, I don't feel as if you are a foreigner, and I could live in MD, but I feel more at home here.

9:23 am

I wish I could say that, Annie, but the state laws affect me so much more directly, and I have a lot less influence at the federal level.

9:23 am

You're right about that Annie. Ever since before the Revolution.

9:23 am

Molly, what are the stats for Irish sorrow?

9:23 am

what is Irish sorrow? I'm cl**less

9:23 am

wi5/18

9:24 am

I have it.

9:24 am

Especially with the presidential elections.

9:25 am

ty Molly, didn't know that, but I will commence to used it daily along with tsoris

9:25 am

Aye and Oy, Bich. : D

9:25 am

Presidential elections tend to bring out the worst in all of us

9:26 am

See Molly, we have our ethnic backgrounds together

Hola viajes

An7 most angry

9:27 am

hi viajes

9:27 am

ty Boo

9:28 am

Yw

9:28 am

We need to revamp our pres. elections for sure.

9:28 am

I would love to do away with the E College

9:28 am

that are way too long sean, that's for sure

9:28 am

My first thought too, bichon

9:28 am

I hope this election doesn't divide our country.but it might

9:28 am

It only pushes the importances of states over Americanism

9:30 am

Boo, I think this country has been divided for a long time.

9:30 am

And we really need to find a way to have more than 2 realistic parties to choose from.

9:30 am

bichon, your "E college" comment made me look for that word in the grid

9:30 am

I don't think it's there

9:30 am

Very true sean

9:30 am

(realistic as in whether my vote will count)

9:32 am

I think we need to do away with political parties altogether, lol - you'd think by now we'd have found a way to do so, still stuck in the whigs and tories mentality, sigh

9:32 am

So, maybe instead of getting rid of the E college system entirely, we could have the appropriate number of electoral votes apply from each state based on their percentages.

9:33 am

let everyone run for office on their individual merits, not as one party or another

9:33 am

viajes, I was just shortening Electoral College

9:33 am

*dreaming on*...

9:34 am

I know, bich, but it made me think maybe you were hiding "electoral" cuz it was in the grid :)

9:34 am

indeed, rbud.

9:35 am

no, twasn't

9:35 am

no

9:35 am

It would be nice to hear from some of our English Babblers about the subject.

9:36 am

The best thing we could do now, I think, to make 3rd or 4th and beyond parties actually have a chance would be to vote for multiple candidates, based on priority.

9:36 am

unless you spell it elochtser college

9:37 am

Clue for ba6

9:38 am

can I get a clue for the first to 6/24?

9:38 am

don't have it Boo.

9:39 am

Thanks!!! teach, didnt try the gerund this time

9:40 am

and bichon

9:40 am

two different to 6/24's

9:40 am

yw

9:40 am

Annie, is the Liberal party still on the ballot in NYC. My parents were that party

9:40 am

So you'd have a first choice, 2nd choice etc.. so you can vote for the Green party as your first choice, and then put the democrat as your 2nd choice, and they would be weighted differently so people could have more confidence in having a vote for a 3rd party candidate actually count.

9:40 am

I have both now

9:41 am

Sorry, I'll try to stop with the political talk...

9:41 am

still need the T in the right column please

9:41 am

bichon, I think it is now Independent

9:41 am

It's possible that Ralph Nader's party lost Gore the election. He might have won Florida

9:41 am

i voted for our green party one year:)

9:42 am

9:46 am

Ah Babble. It always comes back to dogs. : D

9:46 am

dogs on the car roof, dogs for dinner... :P

9:46 am

:-D

9:46 am

That's happened more than once in our history, and it just confounds me that a candidate can be able to get the most total votes and not be president...

9:47 am

hi all, back from exercise class. I have the ba8, help with other 8 pls

9:47 am

There should be a clause preventing that from happening.

9:48 am

will watch it On Demand today :-)

9:57 am

Hi All

9:57 am

ooooh seans...lol

9:57 am

Mitt isn't short for anything. His name is Willard Mitt Romney.

9:57 am

One day my real first name was in the grid. I was shocked

9:57 am

currently,i am into rooster worship a la J.D Sallanger

9:57 am

so does anyone want a clue before I leave?

9:57 am

better watch out .. John Travolta will have sex with you

9:57 am

I am a culinary Jew.

10:00 am

Sean, crossy has a bacon thing

10:00 am

I was here Hego, just not chatting. Big grid days, the chat is just one long clue fest. I'm one of those weird people who likes to find words myself. : D

Oh, and I absolutely respect everyone's right to believe whatever they want.

10:02 am

10:02 am

well,as soon as i discovered that bacon extends my life, well i had no choice

10:02 am

lol

10:03 am

bacon extends your life, how?

10:03 am

I remember visiting them for Christmas and son made a Tofurkey. There were lots of comments, none of them nice

10:03 am

or are you just joking, crossy?

10:03 am

crossy's cholesterol count is way too low. Has to boost it with bacon

10:03 am

he is Peri

10:03 am

I see

10:04 am

doctor told me once that each slice of bacon will take 6 minutes off of my life and after some quick calculations i found out that i should of died in 17455

10:04 am

I like to say crossy has a lardon for bacon

10:04 am

1745

10:04 am

I mean, really, when you look at all the possible knowledge that there is out there in the universe(s), we really don't know anything from our little corner of our little galaxy.

10:04 am

hahaha ruru

10:04 am

It is not the bacon that will kill you. It is the nitrites they use in the processing.

10:04 am

colesterol count is 95!! booyaa!

10:05 am

we indeed know squat sean

10:05 am

10:08 am

True. Nothing will kill you in moderation, but some things should be moderated more than others :)

10:08 am

10:08 am

it,s real?? omg

10:08 am

10:10 am

congrats mixi

10:11 am

Soy should be moderated too, yes. If you're a veggienaut like me, you can't just replace all the meat you used to eat with tofu!

10:11 am

agatha doesn't work

10:11 am

If the movie Crazy People were re-made, the ad line for tofu would be "Tofu. It's good for you, but it tastes like crap."

10:11 am

I'd rather eat sheet rock than tofu

10:11 am

It tastes like what ever you cook it in.

10:12 am

Agatha's last name ends in ie.

10:12 am

change the last two letters to the sometimes vowel

10:12 am

Thank you, Molly.

10:14 am

Deep fried tofu in a veggie stirfry or thai curry dish... yummmm

10:15 am

10:15 am

Soggy tofu without anything interesting is pretty gross though.

10:16 am

10:16 am

Soggy Tofu...great name for a grunge band.

10:16 am

10:19 am

It's just another ingredient over there, it's not associated with vegetarianism like us westerners

10:19 am

10:20 am

But I did clue earlier. I tend to be ignored

10:20 am

Speaking of sneaky, I better sneaky on out of here before I miss my doc. appt.

10:27 am

mrs says my tongue is hinged at both ends so it can flap more and i can talk eskimos into a freezer hehe

10:28 am

but i try to avoid endless cluing unless directly asked or a particular word really catches my fancy

10:28 am

10:29 am

she is

10:30 am

Try flip time and sometimes early morning or just before flip. Makes me wonder why we need list.

10:30 am

10:31 am

i have to have the givf of the gab, because the first date did not go well and i wanted her as my wife. i remember it well, saw a nice movie, had a few drinks then i turned to her and said "darling, how do you like your eggs in the morning?" and when she responded "unfertilized" i knew i had my work cut out for me

10:31 am

her vision is almost too bad for babble now teach

10:32 am

Hi all.

10:32 am

10:33 am

What a nice little grid.

10:33 am

it is nice gramma

10:33 am

I have found that a sense of humor makes a world of difference in my life. You are very lucky.

10:33 am

10:33 am

a sense of humor and a good outlook is critical

10:34 am

I'm not sure where I'd be. My marraige was a disaster except for my son. Now I am truly happy and not afraid to laugh or yell. Night & day!

10:35 am

I'm wondering if you all could help me. I can get on Babble Expert on this computer; but, my lap top no longer works when I try to go on. I don't know what happened. Any suggestions as to how I could fix it?

how many words today

10:39 am

His is a Toshiba

10:39 am

10:40 am

It refuses to take forwards from Yahoo and refuses to run programs that worked 3 weeks ago

10:41 am

most newer computers have a system restore point program.i would start there

10:41 am

I don't know what it is. It fits on my lap and it's black. Babble is the only thing that doesn't work.

10:41 am

that is only if it ever worked before on that computer

10:41 am

Where do you find the system restorer?

10:42 am

Well I guess that leaves out anything not black.HA

10:42 am

Are any of them not black?

10:42 am

start/control panel/system and security

10:43 am

I'll go get it.

10:43 am

though be warned,if you back up one week,or 2,you lose all things installed in that time frame

10:44 am

or just hit start and in search bar type "system restore"

10:45 am

but if it never played babble since day one, this may not help

10:45 am

first ho6/27?

10:46 am

11:50 am

Beware of the militant Eu7 grannies.

11:50 am

Im not old, and we play that card game, I learned it in college!

11:50 am

... played in college ... watch a guy play the cards so fast that no one noticed he played the ace of spades three times in the same hand

11:51 am

Damn, all we played in college were drinking games. : P

11:51 am

ha ha now that is funny!

11:51 am

LOL

11:51 am

... who says this wasn't a drinking game? ...

11:51 am

the college I went to, it was a drinking game...everything was a drinking game!!!

11:52 am

True enough. You can make anything a drinking game.

11:52 am

i advise against trying to drink every time someone swears in the movie "dusk til dawn"

11:52 am

However, the crowd I run with now are serious card players.

11:53 am

or while playing nude,oiled twister

11:53 am

LOL crossy - really?

11:54 am

well sure, smores. once you get to that point, why wold you need more drinking?

11:54 am

some people wake up amrried the next day

11:54 am

married

11:55 am

Seriously Jes.

11:55 am

I mean, you probably had to get everybody drunk before the game to get them to agree.... :D

I do not like powdered eggs and ham, I do not like them, Uncle Sam."

12:08 pm

i think this was my favorite: 87. If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

12:09 pm

i use the rule of thumb that if i wake up giggling about the same idea the next day that i should definatly NOT do it

12:11 pm

as for MRE bombs..well i shall have to read up on that one

12:11 pm

int the old days with a soldier load out gear, playing cards used to have a celluloid coating you could have fun with, but no longer

short attentions spans but love to learn

1:31 pm

what are EA's?

Can anyone clue me for the ch7? It's the last one I have left!

sounds like Mr. Ch*****.... you make GOOD cookies

Thx diane. That points me in the right direction!

....hoping that you have that brand of cookies in the U.S. and know the commercials

Fireworks!

good job !

3:23 pm

Never heard of the cookies. Glad it worked for SF. I already have the word.

3:23 pm

oh, my Chinese pinyin of the pronunciation is interfering with my English apparently.

I guess it's a Canadian company :-)

3:23 pm

well done, superflippy

3:24 pm

anyone have the dumb yi 4? pls

3:24 pm

yi + double consonant

3:24 pm

ty, thought I used every combo.

yes, it appears it is Canadia, but they DO make good cookies

3:25 pm

bi4 like yi4

*Canadian* company

3:27 pm

Diane, I learned the many differences between Canadian and American products when I married my Canadian husband. You should have seen the look I gave him when he got sick and asked if we had any gravol. : O

ha ha :-)

3:29 pm

clue for the last o please, an oc 5

and you don't have Neo Citran....

3:29 pm

oc + a t***p is a flower from Holland

3:30 pm

Neither do we for that matter....

3:30 pm

It's TheraFlu here.

3:30 pm

ty Molly, I was going bonkers on that one....

Yes I know... I had to find that out when in Arizona a few winters ago and in deperation, needed something.

3:31 pm

Brandyjack, love the new picture. Nice hat. : )

No Neo Citran in Ontario, Brandyjack ?

3:32 pm

Factory that produces it in Nebraska has been shut down to correct quality issues. Stock is fairly well depleted...

3:33 pm

A number of products in fact from the same factory and flu season is upon us...

I'll check and see where mine was made... and..... Mississauga .... LOL

3:34 pm

*sneaks in and hugs BJ* I miss you! hey all :-)

well, at least distributed from there .

hi stid :-)

3:37 pm

quality control problems with drug manufacturing again? *rolls eyes* *heavy sigh* and people wonder why I am often reluctant to eat food I haven't watched being prepared...

3:38 pm

Actually, the factory has been down since January? Can't find the story anymore. Only read it an hour ago...

3:38 pm

oh, that is a long time for a factory to be down -- I read a couple weeks ago that Excedrin is only now starting up production again. They were offline for almost the whole year, too.

3:42 pm

I don't use the stuff myself. Just prolongs the misery. I guess the factory had problems with pills from one line mixing in with pills from another. Take two aspirin and find out they are what, taladafil perhaps?

3:43 pm

Yes, broken pills from other lines. I use excedrin when the regular migraine medicine doesn't work fast enough. I can't be "down" when I am teaching!

3:43 pm

dang, only 7 words left. how did that happen. time to go home now....

3:44 pm

go BJ go!

3:44 pm

No, time to go. Anniversary outing tonight. Being late or even tardy for that would not be wise...

3:45 pm

:-D I am glad to see you, BJ. Have a lovely anniversary evening!

I had a question for you brandyjack, but will look for you another time. Enjoy your evening !

3:46 pm

Is it short?

just regarding lab tech, my daughter's career... her lab in Burlington... etc. ... Nope, not short.... I'll catch you another time

3:48 pm

I'm an electronics lab tech, not medical lab. Not sure just how much longer, but they're gonna have to throw me out...

3:48 pm

and I'm off. poof...

3:50 pm

bye BJ!

3:54 pm

5:55 pm

"That's not even a word" is the Babble Anthem.

5:56 pm

I'd have someone look at your computer. A lot of advice gets tossed out here, but you are better off having someone who knows what they are doing diagnose your problem.

8:16 pm

hi stid and lbd! and jilly!

8:16 pm

I love being in classrooms. Building a solid reputation right now as a person who is reliable in a pinch. Someday I think that will mean I get a classroom of my own.

8:16 pm

Frank is doing a little better, eating some solid food, and we have an appointment with a gastroenterologist tomorrow! Yay!

8:17 pm

solid = good

8:17 pm

8:20 pm

8:20 pm

8:21 pm

sleeping in usually means 5:30 for me. body functions make me get up.

8:21 pm

I finally took some sleeping pills the other night - don't like to take them during the week but it had been SO long since I'd gotten enough sleep that I was desperate

9:08 pm

thanks - cutting and pasting for my aunt, a winy-gal :)

9:08 pm

good one, lbd

9:08 pm

why are cones so funny?

9:08 pm

I know Molly.. but now I'm setting myself up to be chastised as the wine snob for recommending a cheap wine

9:09 pm

price has nothing to do with it... a good wine is a good wine

9:09 pm

Poor Ru, so misunderstood and misrepresented. *Sniff*

9:09 pm

I know.. ... sniffle....

9:10 pm

anyone can find a $100 bottle that is decent, takes skill to find good wines reasonably priced (at least here in teh states, not that hard in europe)

9:10 pm

I know lots of $100 bottles that are total crapola

9:11 pm

<----breaks into wine conversation---FW!!

9:11 pm

email sent - thanks kje and ru

9:11 pm

didn't say they were all good, said easier

9:11 pm

wtg jilly!

9:11 pm

yay jilly!

9:12 pm

i've lost interest in the debate.

9:12 pm

I am enjoying inexpensive wines these days.. they're more refreshing

9:12 pm

I haven't...

9:12 pm

(but have requested my absentee ballot - should be here soon)

9:12 pm

Jilly, I just drink a beer and read the wine conversation. I have no yay or nay on the subject. : D

9:13 pm

LOL...in my college days it was Annie Green Springs...trust me...cheap...and awful...

9:13 pm

I never caught the beer taste and liked it.. too yeasty

9:13 pm

Oh that's right, the debate is on. How are the two buffoons doing?

9:13 pm

omg jilly

9:13 pm

you must have been stoned out of your mind

9:13 pm

I love our local brews...especially Cold Smoke....will have it with my pizza tomorrow...

9:14 pm

*blushes at ruru*

9:14 pm

hehehe - we drank boone's farm - and splurged on cheap chianti and bottles of mateus

9:14 pm

*innocent look*

9:14 pm

oh! and blue nun!

9:14 pm

Rotgut wine is an adolescent rite of passage.

9:15 pm

That it is mols!

9:15 pm

makes us stronger, eh?

9:15 pm

*passes around a bottle of md 20/20*

9:16 pm

Mad Dog, cool.

9:16 pm

Oh dear God...I do not want to remember MD 20/20!!

9:16 pm

LOL - a common bond!

9:16 pm

I never drank wine until my twenties

9:17 pm

Innocent, demure, teenage Ru.

9:17 pm

Probably a wise choice ruru...more intelligent then

9:17 pm

I know and I saved myself for marriage too

9:17 pm

:D

9:17 pm

HA

9:17 pm

Debate heating up...

9:17 pm

he was probably plying the young ladies with lemon gin - commonly known as panty remover

9:18 pm

Really? Are they using five letter words now?

9:18 pm

9:18 pm

9:18 pm

9:19 pm

ROFL...nice come back welki!

9:19 pm

I was wondering what that smell was.

9:19 pm

er welki .. speak to ms greensprings below

9:19 pm

I never inhaled either

9:20 pm

No, debating the right to life, insurance coverage for contraception etc...

9:20 pm

i just wish the questions would be a.n.s.w.e.r.e.d.

9:20 pm

First time I ever got busted for drinking and driving by my parents was due to cold duck. Heinous stuff.

9:20 pm

cold duck! and baby duck!

9:21 pm

Silly Welki. Politicians don't answer questions.

9:21 pm

I didn't know I've been consorting with delinquents.. jeez

9:21 pm

martha raddatz is a good moderator

9:22 pm

When I was early in college, a local resturaunts special was fondue and also wine coolers....let's just say, I never was carded...and they were delish!

9:23 pm

i prefer to think of my young self as a recalcitrant adolescent

9:23 pm

wooooo hooo jilly.. livin large

9:24 pm

i wasn't carded either - which was probably not a good thing, since i went to uni at 16

9:24 pm

It's life on the other side of the tracks. We don't all eat in high dollar restaurants and sip from stemware with our pinkies in the air. : P

9:24 pm

hahahahaha -- that was about a million years ago!

9:24 pm

35 for me....*shudders*

9:25 pm

Welki, girl genius.

9:25 pm

perhaps, but time has evened things out

9:26 pm

Yep, I think I wish I had a few of the brain cells I killed back then.....

9:26 pm

you shudder, jilly - and i'm doing the math and it tells me that i'm older than you are! now who's shuddering?

9:28 pm

What a contest. Who is older and who drank the worst wine. : )

9:29 pm

no contest. ru wins.

9:30 pm

But I was 18....

9:33 pm

good job, ms. raddatz! very well controlled debate

9:34 pm

maybe she should run for president :)

9:36 pm

Yes she should!

9:36 pm

We will have to figure out how to get rid of the good old boy network before this country ever elects a woman president.

9:38 pm

brb....

9:40 pm

diane sawyer is still so beautiful

9:40 pm
