Yeah but the list only gives you the first 2 letters of the word and how many letters/points... cluing gives you even more info, practically spelling out the word for you in some cases. I'd rather do some thinking.

no, really, there are usually scads of clues in the chog, which I'd have gotten along the way if I'd been here from the start, so I tend to read back before I ever say a thing. Then I don't want to see the list unless absolutely necessary. In fact I have way more fun on those nights when there's no list at all.

I agree with that, neil, some of the really punny clues are the best. but I've seen (and done) the literal spelling out ones, too, when they're tough.

the thing is, when people ask for stats which are already provided in the list, they are diverting another player from solving the puzzle. Asking for a clever clue is a different matter and fun for the provider.

one thing I do sometimes (and feel a bit guilty about) is to clue something like rewrite as re + wr5 - but I usually only do that when it's down to the wire and almost fliptime and someone's in a hurry.

talking of clues, sometimes it's nigh on impossible to clue a word.
I never ask for stats, I just don't think in stats, really, even after all this time, unless they involve really high point letters, then they get my attention.
just the two letters and how long is still how I think for the most part.
i sometimes do have to resort to almost spelling a word out, because there is no other way. i try with a meaning on those words first, and if that doesn't work, go to plan B
the best cryptic clues are the typos ... :/ kept looking for a 7 (chog 12:48) until i reached my personal go for the list time to find out there is no a 7 ...

I don't know, neil -- I never knew him. Only saw him on his deathbed (stroke) when I was 8 because I lived in China and was just in the US on a visit. I do know one of his daughters taught Italian to opera singers in Buffalo, of all places.

my mother in law is the smartest of the bunch and she is dead.i discovered she had all her inverstments altered to split autoatically 3 ways,she had all contacts numbers on a pad in the will envelope,she had paid off all her credit cards ahead of time and liquidated just enough investments so her bank account now has enough for all lawyer fees and funeral arrangements

we use funerals as family reunions. have lunch at a nice restaurant afterwards. Once when mother was still alive, they had a birthday cake for her.

though it took until Dad passed away for one of them to finally give back his guitar, I told the brothers it was all I wanted, and it eventually resurfaced. I still treasure it.
at my dads showing we were all telling jokes and laughing, the funeral director came in and asked us to quiet down

We buried my dad on my 40th birthday, after it was all over at the cemetery, my brother and his wife and son called me over to their van, sang happy bday, and covered me with silly string, lol - the cemetery had never seen anything like that before, I'm sure.

I was a musician at a funeral for a man who died in a helicopter logging accident. During the funeral 12 log trucks circled the block, honking all the way. They were all bright and sparkly clean, loaded with neatly stacked logs. One was empty. It was absolutely amazing.

one other thing I recall about Dad's mother's funeral - the evil witch aunts also argued about whether Grannie should be buried with or without glasses - I opined that I hope not to need mine when I'm finally resting - I sure don't wear them to sleep. They said she didn't look like herself without them. I plan to specify "without" in my final wishes.

the funeral home asked us (for my MIL funeral) what we wanted - they suggested that she wear them during the viewing but have them removed afterwards - they donated glasses (if we wished) to a charity

The agency sugge5/14d to my Mom and Dad to get another baby. I was sick and it would cost a he4/6 lo4/5 of money to take care of me.But my parents didn't give a do 4/5. Inst 5/12 of heeding agency's warnings, my parents op5/14 to take me anyway. My Mom & Dad had fa 5/18 that I would survive.Looking back, I believe if I had stayed in Vietnam, I would've ended up fl4/7ing. I am so grateful for what my parents have done for me that I fe 4/7 like th 4/7 are the best parents ever! Oh sh 4/5! Hubby has sp 4/5 into office and demanded laptop. He's such a pe4/5.
