Prayers will continue to be sent. The images (photos and videos) are horrendous. My NJ sister will not get power back for another week or so, but at least she has a home.
I never thought I'd see anything like this in my lifetime, right in my own backyard - I feel so helpless. AND, there's another storm coming by Wed/Thurs. and thank you smores.

WE live in Dix Hills, on Long Island - we are located pretty much right smack dab in the center of Long Island - between the two shores of the Long Island Sound and the Bay - that's going north to south - we are elevated - and if we go West toward NYC, with no traffic its just a 40 minute ride. I am 15 minutes from the Ferry to Fire Island and 10 minutes drive to Venetian Shores/Tanner's Park on the South Shore which are now gone - 10 minutes from Lindenhurst which was under water.
I have a friend in Huntington
The ferry is back running now isn't it?
Prayers out Sugrr. I hope the money donated to all the fund raisers will start to kick in soon.
I am also considered Huntington Station - next town from Huntington - not sure about the Ferry. Haven't heard anything

My kids...not so much. Not big on Halloween. It is actually quite weird.

When Zack was about 6, we went out trick or treating. He was very timid then too. He went up to a house with his friends and a man was dressed up on the porch. The kids thought it was a dummy. Of course, he reached out and grabbed Zack...after that....not a big Halloween fan.

And Dylan...he just doesn't like walking.

Now, there are things that I truly understand. Last night, on the way to dinner in the car, my MIL starts talking about the 2 kids bodies that were found that had been washed away. Not a good thing. Zack was so upset.

Then she tried to rationalize it to him that bad things happen...which I don't think really helped.

i was on gas lines this morning for two hours, that helped a lot, cause my car was bone dry. I need to go back and forth, and also think my school might be open on monday. need to get there too. the gas lines are no joke
I got gas yesterday and only had to wait 5 minutes. I am so lucky not to be experiencing what others are.
i saw a lot more gas stations with lines today, hardly any yesterday, so perhaps it is easing up a bit.
If people are to get back to normal, they need gas.
heard that novartis is allowing their employees to use their gas pumps (for their trucks). that's the only way they can be sure to get them in there

My New Jersey sister lost power Monday afternoon and is not likely to have it back for another week or longer. Her bunnies are oblivious despite indoor temps of 54.

as long as they are dry and not exposed to wind, I would be unconcerned, Dorens. We have many animals around here that live outdoors year round (-20F) and as long as they have a dry, wind-protected area to sleep, they do well

If can donate directly, that's best for them usually (though may not get you a tax deduction. Red Cross is large enough that a chunk of all donations goes towards payroll, but at least they are reliably getting help places and not just running off with all the money, which some scam "donation" places do.

Peri, $$ is the best thing to give at this point. There are a lot of logistical problems with collecting material things and moving them to where they are needed. People like the Red Cross prefer to get money so they can buy what they need on pallets and truck it directly to where it is needed.
