have you met marmar on here?
Heard from my old NJ friends -- they escaped their powerless icy cold house to a hotel in PA, tried to get absentee ballots before leaving, no luck. Very upset that they can't vote!
oh too bad..adding insult to injury
thank goodness they're now safe and warm
Jilli I thot people in NJ were going to be allowed to vote by email because of their special circumstances
maybe, bugs, but not from one state to another?
NJ voter here. See http://bit.ly/Wtkq5w for how to vote in NJ even if you are not here.
Thanks Marais. Babble people know everything!
Thank you, marais -- I hope I can get that to my friends but they are in a hotel not using their own computer -- but I'll try right now. Brb.
Displaced NJ voters can vote but it has to be in-state but not at their usual polling station. Your friends can come into NJ to the nearest polling station and vote according to the provisional rules.
Hi there. Just back from a lovely afternoon with friends - now down to the grid!!!
hello liz and mara
Happy voting day to US friends! Hope whoever you want, gets in!!!
thanks liz..fingers crossed

Hi Shallow
thanks anyway, smom -- I tink it's about 100 miles from NJ along Rte 80.
almost like clearasil for chog :D
Hi Shallow, but I got here in time to see the pmples.
shucks ....
so its pb for me
lots of goodies there, shallow
there ougth to besome of the halibut left i caugth yestternight - it was gigantic missing the "ish" and having known 'boy' and 'toy' to go with it half the game
and to crown that i ranted abut the 'ism' not occuring once in the grid
was there an "ish" last night? I don't remember.
boyish/toyish
I tore my hair out looking for that addition to those words -- gave up before I was about to go bald
lol
where did the ism happen?
it was a very mean grid yesterday - cant remeber spending so much time in collins dictionary
morewords is much more efficient, shallow
it didnt - thats what i was musing about, and asked for help for the boy/toy combination at the same time
ah! so I didn't miss that!
found the boy / toy ones very late on!
i dont like morewords for looking up words - too many dead ends
never used morewords. sometimes use a2zwordfinder - but try not to
but the ism, of course is just a letter different than the ish which i just couldnt spot - i wanted to bang my head
that would hurt, so don't bother
Mari are you on you fire?
i use more words when im totally desperate
shallow, a trick for using morewords is to go there, enter a ^ and add all the letters missing from the grid. Copy that to a word processor so you can reuse it. then when looking for a word like, say, bo7, enter bo-----and then the ^plus those letters you saved.
really weeds out the unnecessaries
yep, makes wordlists a lot shorter, i do that too. but only as last resort
I also try not to use it until I'm really stuck, but that's quite often quite soon!
nbt/nbs
i dont use the list until ive got at least half of the words, i dont use more words until im through with the list. whats left is mostly babblets to me or blackouts
good for you, shallow.
I can't get half the words without the list.
And now it's past bedtime so farewell all. I'll be glued to the TV tomorrow.
gn jilli thank for chats
and ...*poof
and sleep well
Sleep well jilli - i'm off too for a while
Bore da, good morning - frosty cold one here on the hill

i didn't find yesterday too bad
hi all, back for last 47....Glant so/so here

hi diz
108 w/o list today?
today, not yesterday. yesterday i was stuck for the first time at 35
oh dear :-)
looking at the top right E, I have the volcano & pl, and also the en7 to keep spellbound, what are the stats for the other two?
thanks for the volcano, often miss that :)
and just strated the list at a
i am slowl learning not to miss it LOL
seems to be one of the babble-standards - been babbling for just over a month now
Good afternoon all
it is, along with a few others - and you will begin to see them earlier in the puzzle as time goes on
morning lyn
just checked the list - seems you have the en7 which i dont have. theres another en6/7 combo from that e
shallow, en+ca 4 and pl
ty - and where, pray tell, is the list for when i need it?
lickety?
Lickety is up Glant
TY Diz & hi
ty diz - i didn't have the ca4 & pl either!
i didn;t even look at lickety because it hasn't been there recently LOL
the en7 is to keep under a spell, or to especially delight somebody
shallow, go down to bottom of page an click on licketys babble clues
shallow was telling me where the list ios today diz
oh had that remebred wrongly as being seplled with double l - probably because its mostly used passively or in past tense
thanks :)
i thought it had a double l too but often try variant spellings these days
my keys need a bit of oilign i think ...
boy I am old...just looking at this old guy on a local soap and realise he was the young attractive man from another soap...of course it was 40 years ago
happens to us all if we're lucky lyn :-)
well I have been very lucky and so I am still here...and that wasn't a complaint about being old, just sometimes you realise how long ago things were
How is the new house going Glant...is it 'home' now?
yes, i keep seeing heartthrobs who i thought were younger than me, looking older than me on tv. and then i remember that i look older than i think of myself LOL
i'm not sure it will ever be home lyn - i have been here 9 months now, but it still feels odd. perfectly practical but no emotional connection
do you have any pets in the house?
no, i travel too much with work for that to be practical
I thought that might be the case
I am glad you have a peaceful sanctuary - even if it doesn't feel like home yet
it is very convenient and peaceful. i have just had al;l the windows replaced so that it is warmer and they let more light into the rooms than the old ones which had faux leading decoration on them
and i have my upstairs craft room, but i don;t feel enthused to use it much, i expect that enthusiasm to come back one day :-)
it is hard to make time to do that - I struggle even though I no longer work
what do you do?
i have the time, it's the inclination i'm struggling with - total lack of inspiration! i do mixed media stuff, and textiles and some embroidery - all sorts fo things really
i have an embellisher machine which is very fun - it 'felts' things together
well, the monekys have worked well this morning, I'm down to 50, and need to go to work, bbl, have fun babbling!
bye glan, have a nice day
bye Glant - You should look at the work of Annemieke Mein. Inspirational
F/Ws last word was sh 4 stoopid word...LOL
when you click the definition for it it says no definition found... how can it be a babble word?
wd diz
but congrats!
agreed Angel

i was just getting back in here after checking my current addiction on FB
good morning all
hi teach, smores, crossy
repubs are the ones that are not obama? if so they may as well stay there.we have the same universal healthcare and freedom to marry who you with without govt interference that obama is for lol

Obama is a Democrat.
watch out - i'm in the grid

does not mean much to me.if those fleeing are against obama, tell them to stay there

so tell the repubs to stay put lol

Just leave your hands off my Medicare
i always get confused all i know is last informal poll suggests that 86% of us would vote obama
if the repubs get elected - the demos will be fleeing
crossy hugs his universal health care
lol...I hear ya bichon
:)
Morning babblers :)
hi Nono
morning nono:)
Crossy universal health care is great but Obama care is not the answer
need help with bottom left corner P please
you guys may actually like the govt not dictating who you fall in love with and marry as well as eventually getting the insurance companies out of your healthcare:))
teach, Greek word and name of a muscle
obama care does not remove the insurance companies from the picture as I understand it
nono,he is trying to bring you half way.as far as i can figue obamacare is akin to our old o.h.i.p plan where we paid quarterly for health care based on income
Teach, they are both ps5/12.
thanks bichon, bzzn got em both :)

Hi Crossy!
car!!
Hello, all. sprite, how is Tim doing?
hiya crossy :) *hug*
((sprite))
Nono, I don't have it yet, sorry.
Tim seems to be doing ok. We have more peace in da house. He is conforming to the 'hard' rules we have set and makes the most of discussing about all the rest.
thanks for caring, BabbleRabble
have EN 7/32 - which one is that?
it is my last word and even More Words is not helping
both are en 7/32 wv
and now it is time for crossys tidbit of the day!!!
go for it, crossy
The original version of Roger Corman’s The Little Shop of Horrors was reportedly the fastest film ever made. It was written in a single night, rehearsed in three days, and shot in two days and one night. Why the rush? Corman wanted to finish the movie by New Year’s Day 1960, when a new industry practice would have forced him to pay the actors residual fees for any showing.
I now have en + I packed my suit***** for the trip.

I am finally going to have my eye looked at today. I can't wait!
sounds like overdue maintenance... what happened, car?
what's wrong with your eye car?
live coverage? I suppose most of the dead do not need it
About 2 weeks ago some dirt blew in my eyes. My left eye has been irritated since then.
lol Babble Rabble

Good one BR! That is how I feel after all of these years of campaiging!
agreed car....YaY to no more campaign ads!! weeee
We are already have "live" coverage here. Our senate race is a biggie.
I expect the dead may find it difficult to produce a picture ID
that is because their pic is so bad, they don't wanna be caught dead with it
yeah to no more TV adds and the constant robo phone calls
lol...probably a few will be voting
<groan>
ugh...the calls
yesterday was non-stop calls
I wish they would limit campaign time to three months. Straight...to the point...limit the negative stuff...just focus on the issues.
agree car
agree car..that would be nice
My friend got called by Matt Damon though! That would be OK!
cool
we just get the computerized messages
That would be great Car. It would be nice if that applied to all the endless "opinion spouting" as well. I got a call from Eva Longoria. I was underwhelmed.
Good morning Molly! It is too much...not to mention how I feel about spending all that money that could go to other things....
definately.....money could be much better spent
Hi Molly :)

yes I believe so, BabbleRabble. It goes with a kind of veil/hood that has slits for the eyes.
then the dress does not cover the body completely
Tee hee! Just found ch 7/36...what a silly word!

Good grief...I am inactive to vote.
does that mean you CAN'T vote car ?
Yes, I cannot vote today. I have taken care of it at the Town Hall for next time.
I thought I had switched it all over when I moved 2-1/2 years ago.
I feel so bad.
ah, the move did it... yes it is sad...
i've always viewed voting a privilege as well as a duty... but not everybody agrees with me...
well, first pass 125/52; grid not as bad as yesterday's - take care car "poof"
I actually have never liked voting...I don't like the Electoral College...but now that I can't vote, I feel sad.
hi all, and i see one of my favorite letter squares in teh grid
missed montreal AGAIN. *sigh* hey car and gwen
can't vote, car?
how can you miss an entire city? lol
MOST states have "provisional" ballots that people can fill out and EVERY American is entitled to vote for president regardless of state registration status! States are REQUIRED to tell you this, and to give you a ballot to fill out.
stidmama is right, car
you should still be able to vote
who's telling you you can't vote?
well, depending on which state you're in :)
May i get a stat for a P please?
Yes, I used to work in my state's election department. Regarding voting for president, registered or not, she is entitled to vote provided she is a citizen with full rights (that is, not disenfranchised due to criminal activity or incapacity).
ps 5/12
i have a ps5, all vowels after the ps

Good morning, all. Yes. I voted at 8:00 a.m. est.
gotta go, have a lovely day all! *poof*
i'm going to vote in a few. already went there, about 8:30, and the wait was over an hour. hoping it will be a little less after the morning rush
We had about a 15 minute wait, with the line moving the whole time. Not too bad.
No lines. No waiting at my polling station. Zip zip.
I'm heading there around 11, hopefully the lines won't be terrible
i'm off to vote, good luck mael and all who have yet to go *poink*
good luck to you too! Happy voting!
Standing in line now. Bbll
Hello :) Could I please have a clue for the ch5/16?
... c + h4
People check Babble while waiting in line to vote? Wonders never cease.

Or most of the main male characters name.
Ah, got it, thank you.
Never mind, I thought you were cluing he5

Probably spent all your enthusiasm looking up words yesterday. : )

I wonder if there are places where voting is still non-computerized.
yes..here
i voted by paper 3 yeas ago, and plan to again this afternoon. It's a scan-tron, so is computer-read, but eye-verifiable
..chad city
most chad ballots are read by punch-card machines
I haven't voted like that in years.

In Maryland, there are only a few grocery stores that have a beer and wine license. Fortunately, one of them is five minutes from me.
And my county won't have a Wegmans for a few more years.
right. where here in VA, half the gas stations sell wine, and most all of them sell beer. As well as the grocery, drug, and convenience stores.
The Commonwealth is much more relaxed about that than the uptight State Of Maryland. : ) Fireworks too.
the MOMs in Rockville has wine.
congrats, Molly :)
Clue for se 6/21 please? Well done, Molly
No, I meant The Commonwealth is much more relaxed about selling fireworks.
AH! We still buy many in WV and PA :) And everywhere is more relaxed about fireworks than Montgomery County, MD :)
looking for it, biltong...
thank you, dcseain :) I'm just not getting it.
I agree DC, but I still dig the thrill of doing something illegal every time I light a sparkler. : P

I voted and brought some needed supplies to the local fire dept and they will drive down to the jersey shore later today. I am glad that I am able to help

hi all
hi mixi
I voted. when I got home there was a campaign robo call on my answering machine. isn't that illegal?
No Mixi, it's not illegal. I've been getting them for weeks. Peri, good for you for lending a hand.
thanks Molls
I thought they had to stop on election day. Yes, I've had a bunch before.
I don't know about them having to stop on election day. The only laws I know of are about electioneering in the vicinity of a polling place.

ac6 please?
good morning everyone :)
never mind!
disgusted at PA? (been reading the chat)
a voting machine there automatically changes ur vote from Obama to Romney. they removed it but i fear the damage has been done
I was surprised that there is no law against campaigning and campaign ads on election day, too
i have a campaign commercial on my tv right now lol
oh wow!
I hope there aren't any other machines like that around
the guy took a video on his phone and sent it to the elction commission. they removed the machine. PA could be a toss-up so this is not good news
I would think that all votes for Romney from that machine would be discounted
more news out of PA. voters are being turned awayy from polls if they dont have an ID. PA state law says ID is not required. Supreme court ruled. Ugh.

ch6 the first?
I had a robo call to vote for Romney on my answering machine when I got home from voting. I didn't think you could campaign on election day either.
just looked at that site, knight -- tell me -- how does that differ from Romney visiting polling sites all day?
it doesn't - that's the point. Both sides are guilty as sin
...or Florida changing voting times and restrictions at the 11th hour?
i was under the impression that campaigning is illegal AT the polling site, not on the day of
Um. Obama didn't choose the polling places. The board of elections did.

ugly business at any rate
whole thing is ugly. i am avoiding it as much as possible until 11 tonight (other than having voted myself, and assuming my vote will register as cast)
nvm the ch6
perhaps we should adopt the Canadian form of govt
i want the bit about only a few months of campaigning, not 2 billion$$ and 2 years. this has been thoroughly dreadful!!
I agree dorens!
... you can barely cope with two parties .... how do you think you'd handle five of them? ...
lol -- we have our share of minority governments too - I've just never seen the kind of partisanship (is that a word?) that has been exhibited in the states over the last couple of years.
i'd love five of them!
we are FORCED to cope with the 2 party system. ALmost every voter wants more than 2.
... then you'd like a parliamentary system instead of a congress
well, i'm off to bring warm coats, etc. to a church that's bringing them to a shelter. So glad to be able to do something. later, gators

First tie there in Presidential voting history.
Ahh many thanks to you both.
I don't think any election results should be shown until all voting is closed. (even Hawaii).
anyone have a clue for the en 7 that does not been boxes up
harts landing: obama 24 romney 9 (they voted same time as dixville) so right now Obama has 66% :P
... is that the town in New Hampshire? ... They've always voted straight Republican since Kennedy/Nixon ...

I always miss the mountain...lol
No. Obama won Dixville Notch in 2008, does.
Yay, Gary Johnson got two votes in Harts Landing. : D
... missed that ... maybe I was just so accustomed to the 9-0 votes being announced at 12:05 a.m.
itll be fun to see how many votes roseanne barr got
I'm very interested to see how many people vote for neither of the two main candidates.
Fun fact: No Republican has ever won the Presidency if they got under 80% of the vote in Dixville Notch. Romney got 50%.
don't understand the polling of people that have just voted either -- I think Winston Churchill was on the right track when he said that the greatest argument against democracy was a 5 minute conversation with the average voter
Not sure I understand that quote.

Molly - he was saying that the average voter did not understand the issues and that it was frightening to think that these people were determining the course of the nation

anyone found that other en 7 yet?
I was in line to vote with a teacher. He said last presidential election, he gave the class just the platforms and not the names of the candidates. After voting, 3/4 of the students who said they had voted for Obama had really voted for McCain, based on platform.
they voted Obama because theyre kids and theysee him as president. IMHO
en 7 - to hold spellbound, captivated
Spelled wrong
... yeah ... I thought it had a double consonnent too
... seems the grid will accept both
... hmmmmm
The point of the story is that the kids SAID they were for Obama, but when voting on issues (not knowing whose they were) they voted McCain.
en-ch5 is not accepted
You would have to use the N twice for that.
... noticed that one too ... no idea why that happened ...
ty molly
... silly me ... of course you're right
Right Molly. They said Obama just because he's POTUS. Too young to tell difference between issues and stature of person running.

Yes sorry forgot to add Republican.. yeah its progress that we finally get a black female GOP member from congress. too bad she sucks on the issues :P

What about Carole Mosely-Braun?
Oh we'll, it's still progress of a sort
she was a Democrat Molly
i have a pic of me with sen. moseley-braun somewhere i met her when i went to minneapolis for the netroots nation convention
Yes, that's why I said republican. I think Mosely-Braun is still the only black female senator
Sorry, typed that before it was clarified.
my parents voted for her for Mayor last year

As great as these landmarks are, I would love to get away from people being tagged "black" and "female" because it promotes one issue voting.

Hello, Uusue :-)
Until I played this game, I had no idea how involved people in other countries are in our politics.
Well, what we do has worldwide ramifications.
morning everyone
Hi lynxxx!
Hello, Lynxxx
hi Sue. Did Frank manage to see our horse race?
hi Zooz!
No, we were kind of busy processing bad medical news. I told him about it, though.
By the way, the voting problem that Cos mentioned is a touch screen issue and not the result of voting fraud.
Still a concern if valid votes are not being recorded and there isn't any way to double check
so - surgery I see - bet he is hoping that is ASAP. Can they tell him anything else now or will they see how he comes up after surgery?
They think the prognosis is good, but he will need chemotherapy, and they won't know the full extent until they go in there.
Well, it's up to the voter to make sure that their vote is tabulated correctly (ie the right choice is highlighted). And since this is not being reported as a wide spread problem, I think the voting results will be accurate.
Well, that's good, Molly. I hadn't read what the specific issue was but do have general concerns about electronic voting.
That sounds great Sue...though chemo is wearing. No radiotherapy (my favorite! reckon it saved my life)
Probably not, usually it isn't useful for intestinal cancers
mine was used on lymph glands in abdomin - twice though obviously in different areas
Ah,well, we don't know anything about the lymph glands yet, so that may still be a possibility
And you've recovered well? (I'm looking for success stories I can share with Frank)
a 3 year battle at the time - but nothing for the last 11 years. I was down to a 5% chance of surviving. I was very very lucky and had amazing surgeon, radiologist and melanoma specialist/leading researcher all looking after me. Minor permanent side effect.
Mind you, I did continue working throughout at fairly onerous job - except for during 3 lots of surgery and when I was intensive course of chemo (you get 'chemo' head).
Tell him to just go with the flow, now that they have found out what it is they will look after the pain for him, from now on he will just be in discomfort. They make advances in knowledge everyday. He has everything to look forward to
It is amazing what the boy can endure...great to know you have now been clear for a long time now.
body sorry.
My specialist doesn't even want to see me anymore (sob)..I feel as though I have lost a friend lol
LOL....Bless you.
Ok i have finished....time to go...take, Lynxxx and all stealth babblers.
congrats Zooz, lovely to see you again, have a good evening
Will do..and you..*poof*
Thanks, lynxxx! Sorry had to do other things for a bit.
thats OK ..
quiet here.
probably everyones finished - or voting?
or watching the voting results?
there won't be results awhile yet, they wait til the polls close in any given state before reporting projections and it's not yet 4 eastern time
the words are so obvious after you list
even the P's?

Hi peri!
anyone have the en7 that isn't the plural of the 6?
rats I want my Barbados flag to show up
I don't, hurshy
en7 to captivate or engross
engross - is that the right spelling? looks wrong
like en + ch5? that isn't here
... you're probably trying to spell it as an en8 with a double consonant at the end ... well the grid will take only one consonant too
engross is fine i think
th is used a lot in this grid
Ok, I am now from Australia. would really like to visit there someday

and we would like to have you come Peri
I'll go with you, peri!
ok,that would be fun, sue. after Frank is all better

nice hint lynxxx, hi to all in babble -onia

hi peri, no results yet. they had to push back his appt yet again because the doc was so backed up people were waiting for 6 hours in his waiting room!
we5.22 - no def, new word for me, sounds germanic
Thanks Cos. From what I've read, voter turn out is pretty good everywhere.
i think his new appt is friday... but i have given up keeping track, starting to assume it will get moved again and again
I hope not hurshy. is your husband patient. I am not
he is patient about this, externally. not totally sure how he feels if/when he thinks of it and doesn't mention that he's thinking of it.
well, I do hope that the results are good, espec. after the long wait
thanks

I've remembered - she is Jane Hall - http://www.clothofnature.com/gallery.p\nhp
actually Book depository has her book "The Art of Annemieke Mien" pretty cheap (LOVE Book Depository)
I love BookDepository too LOL
lovely work too - interesting to see some of it suspended
I can't understand how Book Depository can send books to the other side of the world with no freight cost - NOT that I am complaining. It is far cheaper for us to buy an Australian book from the UK (no GST/VAT involved)
Some of Jane's panels are 4 feet long and lots of the piece is dangling or floating

Bye Peri :)
ge, smores. try collins dictionary, its listed but not with a good description. found a pic of it in an online museum on the shetlands. it looks like an oversized tambourine without the cymbals, i looked it up this morning ...
also the sh4 can be found in collins, which doesnt get a result via '?'
It's some kind of grain harvester.
not really a plate-äike drum to sort debris from the millstone from the grain or winnow the grain from spellts
debris from the flour of course
That's what I said, a grain harvester.
sorry i thought 'harvesting' is just the process of getting the grain from the field and not the ongoing process- as non-native speaker sometimes have a gap in my vocab
heres the pic i found from the museum http://tinyurl.com/c723hem
winnowing --- removing the grain from the chaff.
and 'spelts' is obviously i term i made up from german 'spelze' - i meant chaff
Thanks for the picture, Shallow One. The article also refers to the we in the sense Collins does.
Now it's the waiting game. Media babble or real Babble?
I am here for Babble stuff. Will go to a news site for the other stuff.
is there any election news yet|? I don't think I'll sleep tonight
There shouldn't be any concrete news until much later tonight. The polls are still open.
do they announce Eastern results befor e West Coast polls close?

sorry
They start speculating on results as the polls start to close. Ruby, answer a question for me. How does who we elect president affect you, a person who lives in another country?
I am still a US citizen, pay US taxes, have madicare, have relatives, and basically care a lot about women's rights
Good for you, Ruby
I hang an American flag in front of my house on the 4th of July. and celebrate Thanksgiving. Do you think I qualify?
Ah okay. I need to ask someone who is none of those things then. It's not that I didn't think you qualified. I was just curious about the interest of people in other countries.
You qualify ... for sure, Ruby.
my neighbors are all very pro-Obama

sorry, very tired but trying to stay up

Good night, Nel.
hi, folks
Hello, welki.
wooo! i'm losing it - heard this funny noise, sounded kind of spooky. d'oh - i have eggs boiling and they were rolling around in the pot
No - hallowe'en was last week - but remember it for next year!!!
hi, lizlin :)
Good morning
Glad you are ok, welki Hello, Lizlin
Hi BR
attack of the hard boiled eggs
There, there Welki. The eggs are our friends. : D
Hate it when looking for a word that I know ought to be there and is there but can't see it for looking!
who hasn't drawn faces on hard boiled eggs so you can tell them from the un-boiled ones? (putting a penciled x on them is so pedestrian)
me! I just spin them!!! Boring I know but I never was artistic!
Any fires in your are, Lizlin. Lyn said the fires were out in her area.
<---Has drawn faces : )
No - not here. The fire risk is high at the moment though. It's unusual where I am that it hasn't rained much here so far this spring. We
moving into the wet season now but a hot dry summer is predicted!
Might try drawing faces next time. So much more creative!
it was fun when the children were little
evening all!
Hello, I'm a newby. Lizlin showed me how to play and now I'm getting hooked!
Hi Robbie - knew you'd like it!!!!!
(and it's really easy to draw goatees on eggs - the curves are just right *lol*)
hi robbie - welcome to babble
Guess I'll never do housework again!
Remind me not to come round then!!!!
housework? what does that mean?
shingling
Good point! Too busy playing babble or walking on the beach!
Hi 2Bit : )
never had the shingles - hope i never do :)
later, people - egg cooling time
Robbie - forgot to tell you about fireworks - when people complete the grid you get fireworks (fw) displayed! You see people posting when they get fireworks
IF you need help, just ask. People are very friendly here.
Can't see that happening on my screen! Have only 48 words out of 177!
Keep looking - they suddenly jump out at you. use lickety's list to help you out until you're used to it.
I've got 59 more to find!
Robbie - try looking for rhyming words, add plural endings
Hi teach - good advice there - but I think Robbie's gone! I'm sure she'll be back though.
At this point don't worry about the number of words, just enjoy the game and the chat
hello liz - just starting back up for the evening after finishing dinner
How's the atmosphere re the election?
nobody's talking about it here, thank goodness! :)
That's funny - we've just finished breakfast and I'm playing til we go out for a walk
I suspect most of us are suffering from indigestion
I think I'm with you nrkii! It gets overwhelming!
we're not in to politics that much so trying to find some background music for the evening since TV is all about election results - even though most polls haven't even closed they are predicting winners
My other half's so interested - in whichever country! I'm not so interested.
don't think they should be allowed to predict results until all polls are closed so it doesn't influence voters
He wants to know when they'll know the results
Good point Teach.
results are starting to come in from the first states now
they're saying that it will be close and won't know until late tonight
So in how many hours is that. It's 10.20 am here
no earlier than 2PM, I'd guess
more likely later
It's 7:20 here and they are saying until 11 - 12 - so 4 or 5 more hours and even then many results will be unofficiaql
ty
all the time zones become so confusing
yes, babble chat has helped me increase my awareness of it all
I have family in London Canada and America - sometimes I have to add hours and sometimes subtract! I'm very sorted with London but less so with the US and Canada - where is babble time based?
Central US I think.
Not helpful for where my family is based!
But I agree with teach that babble chat does help
time in the chat log is the "US Central time Zone" which is just west of where i am so I always add one hour to what is listed in chat
For me it's subtract 4 hours and go to yesterday or the other end of the day. I can understand people's confusion about lickety's dates
Good evening to my fellow babblers! How is everyone?
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! Hooray!
Hi Min - good to see you
Hi Min : )
Love the icon Min - made me laugh out loud!
Thanks Lizlin.I'm just Sitting here wondering how many babblers wvte 5/14 put into the Penalty Box today.
Lots probably - inlcuding me but it's hard because it's how you refer to someone
And herself continually - every time the icon appears
anyone have the second en 7?
I am glad you said something about my icon.It reminded me to take out my old story of clues. I will be right back.
Plural of the one above it! Or are there others?
Oh yes - to capture someone in your spell - though I'd've spelt it with a double final consonant
Ru, it's a word that means to spell bind, usually spelled with a double consonant at the end.
lol Molly - thinking same way
Apparently we now can al drop the bal and spell however we want.
you mean spel
you mean spel
Or spel however we want
Damn, you can't get anything by Liz
Or Lurking Via
helo al! doing another of my drive-byes
Off to plant nasturtiums then to the beach. Back later :)
nasturtiums sounds like a fake grid word to me...
I wasn't lurking! I just got here!
Poor Liz, such a tough life.
Very tough! Enjoy your evening. Bye
Goodbye Lizlin!I will see you tomorrow in the chat log
Hello viajes! How are you doing? Welcome to the chog
howdy Min
okay, ciao all. It's been a thril.
In and out, quicker than a teenage boy.
Goodbye viajes! Was nice to see you here very briefly
for the P, I have one ps5... can someone tell me the stats for the other P word?
another ps 5
ooh, yep, thanks!
hi nrkii, hi all
back to find my last 38
nrkii, are you back home?
yes, I came back today... only 5 days of exile :)
hi all! in my office for a bit, will head home soon
nrkii, I talked to my dad in NJ today, he is still without power but they say maybe it will be back on tomorrow. Other than that he is doing fine.
oh that's good, sue... where is he?
Millington - he's on top of a hill so no water problems, thank goodness
also have 38 peri
30 now
and hi, wv and peri!
hi sue
oh, I used to work right near there
hello sue
used to live in Fords, worked in Woodbridge, husband has masters from rutgers
Hello perwinkle! How are you doing? Welcome to grid.
ok, Min, how are you?
Hello uusue2! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
I was born in New Brunswick, lived in Plainfield until I was 10, then in Bernardsville
I've only lived in NJ for last 9 years, but I love it. I'm very sad about what people are enduring here.
I lived in Morristown before here (Lambertville)
the area where my dad lives is very nice
Ugh, 14 to go here, and as always, most of them are 6's
I hate 6 letter words
Forgot about all of our overlaps Sue - lived in Plainfield for 2 years, before moving to Fords
that's right, I had forgotten too!
Have my masters from what was Newark State College (now called Keane College)
I am well periwinkle. Trying to finish, but have lots left
ok, I finally have enough a's that I am not embarrassed. Time to go home. We are off to an election party (Frank is running for county board) - see you all tomorrow!
Goodbye uusue2! I will see you tomorrow in the chog.
hope Frank is successful
Oh boy, I just saw some early results. I hope Cos has a drink, or three.
Molly, too early for anyone to rejoice or despair. But I may need a drink just to calm down.
Oh I agree. And I have no vested interest in the outcome either way. I just know how nervy Cos gets about such things. : )
was just watching Extreme Cheapskates, very interesting. a woman served friends food found in a dumpster. they ate very little.
I also watched some of Extreme Couponing. I see no reason to have a year supply of cake mix for every member of your family or an 11 year supply of laundery detergent. Give some to a homeless shelter or to a food pantry.
I don't get the coupon hoarders. I think they have some kind of disorder.
they are usually well organized but my goodness why not share the wealth
last te5/14 pls. my last word
I'd be willing to check out some dumpster but they are all behind fences and gates around here
te 5 - rhymes with what you sit on at the piano
rhymes with Johnny Be***
Ends like the Sunshine State, Peri.
restaurants and markets do throw out a lot of decent food
Oy, I clued the th5. Never mind.
the only Johnny's I know are Depp and Cash
Restaurants and markets should be donating that food.
Peri, see Teach's clue.
they should and some do. but the date says expired they are not allowed to. we are not allowed to give out expired food at the food pantry either
Dame Judi De***
fw here... need to go get some rolaids, or bourbon
tyty got it but still have two words left
happy babbling everyone
Johnny Be5 was a famous baseball catcher.
Anyone know how to contact Dr. God? The connection here and on IronSudoku both say "default mail client is not properly installed".
that clue went right over my head.
bye nrkii, go for the bourbon
Sorry "is" a famous baseball catcher. He's still with us.

Why does CHEAT work? Why does this word count. Cannot understand
doh... it works because it is a word.. and China Girl is in the PB, hope some goodies are there too
Hello ChinaGirl! How are you doing? Welcome to chog.
but the words don't connect following the rules of the game? What is PB? Please. Thank you
c...the h next to it...the e diagonally down from that h...the a diagonally down from that e...the t next to that a.
P's Pummeled! 2 left
Yes the letters do connect following the rules of the game. The PB is the penalty box for mentioning a grid word in the chat.
Oh, China, the PB is the reknown Penalty Box.. thinking of FMitch at present, sniff
Fiona
go, Minver, go
yes, BR.. I miss her terribly
Oh No. I have different pattern because Molly L's don't match mine. Welcome to the FarSide.

Well, I'll really enjoy if someone could tell me if this has ever happened- can I give the letters from the grid and show you what I'm talking about. I'm holding a 6 ptr, 21 pt in my ready

YES BABBLE RABBLE!!!
We're all playing the same grid ..
horizontal, diagonal, up and down, etc.. all connected.
And the CH word you mentioned connects exactly the way I said it does.
Not exactly. Just all connected. You can go two across and one down diagonally, and one down from that diagonally, etc. as long as they all connect.
Oh thank you MollyL !
brb - am a bit befuddled and need to check election results
Keep at it, China Girl .... you will figure it all out ... to the extent possible with Enable a factor
Thank you Babble Rabble. Love it. Love it.
Have you gone to Lickety's Babble Clues at the top of the third column in the Friends of Babble section?
good evening, may i have a clue please for the he6 immediately after he***cliffe!
sorry, just got it

Hello, Dorens. Were you back in school today?
hi babrab... was there yesterday. today we had off because of elections... I do wish they had changed their minds, since we already lost a week of instructional time.
will be back there tomorrow.. nice to be there. sense of normalcy. I still have no power at my house, but the trees have been removed from m roof
doggone it, big delay as I enter my words
Dorens, so sorry for the trouble you have been enduring..
Progress, no matter how small is good

struggling to figger that out
hello friends. trying to distract myself from watching election results....
but am so distracted as I watch election returns
how are you all?
I would appreciate a nudge for the p in the left corner
2 ps 5's Trif
never mind....
thanks for the psychic clue, molly!
Every time you or Car says "Hello friends" it reminds me of the Vitameatavegamin commercial. : D
that's who I was for Halloween!!!!
hold on....I will put photo on my profile
Hilarious!
there you go....Im the one on the left
though we look a little smudged
Clever costume.
thanks! I used an old pattern I found from the actual 50s, and although I followed the directions exactly, it still came out HUGE. it just fit strangely. I think it's the underwear being different now
hi Trif.. in the same boat as you, can't tear myself away from the TV, but want to Babble too
Did you wear the "smart hat" too?
no, just the dress and apron and the glasses
that is my friend on the right - she has lost over 70 pounds in the last year - I am SO proud of her!
its an uncomfortable boat, aloy
Are we on the same page here? I'm talking about Lucy in the Vitameatavegamin commercial.
btws, aloy....I subbed in a 10th grade science class yesterday, and ATE IT in front of the whole class when I didn't see a plug on the floor, and went FLYING. Trust me, it was spectacular!
I know, molly.
Okay because she didn't wear an apron or glasses in that. I thought we were thinking of different things.
I wasn't really aiming for that particular episode...just Lucy in her lovely usual iconic self
phantom: literal
Ah, I get it now.
ooh, Trif.. are you OK?
actually, not really. I mashed my knee, and bent my wrist in some very new ways, but I was NOT going to admit that in front of a class full of sophomores!
ouch, so sorry! was it a biology class?
but it was very, very funny1
if you were bruised you could say you attended cord en Bleu
if you were bruised you could say you attended cord en Bleu

hi aloy
going to the pantry, seeking some popcorn.. hope we have some
Hi all!
hi cos

im feeling very confident now
dems picked up senate seats in MA, IN and retained MO.
Hello cosdem! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
Heyas again Min and all ..
You fellow Democrats should be glad you don't live in Arizona----George Wallace could have won here.

no popcorn, rats..
I have some Aloy. You made me go look when you mentioned it. I will put some in the PB
ty so much, Bugsaw
Frank has been elected to the county board!
And hi all!
YAY Frank! That must make him feel better
hi usue, and yay for Frank's election!
He is needed here!
Yes, he is having a fine time tonight.
I am sorry to read about the other news tho. This success couldn't have come at a better time for him
Indeed, bugs. Will keep you all posted on the not so good news as it develops.
agree with Bugsaw.. hope this helps lift his spirits and speed his recovery
congrats Frank!!!!
Cos, the democrats won all three county-wide races here. We are happy.
tell Frank congratulations!!!!
My hubby retired this 12/31/2011 from the county board after 42 years in elected public life.
Will do, thanks snags!
expect lots of phone calls during the next several years !!! :))))))))))))
I'll bet!
Democrats have retained the Senate. Just called VA for tim kaine
He will spend more time on the phone then you do, so tell him to get well and back on his feet !!!!!!!!!!
and did you just laugh at them snags, as per your icon?
lol Life is a hoot............. and I am having a ball. :)
This will give him some needed energy and purpose.
exactly.............
exactly, people need to be needed to feed their energy to fight
you are wise Bug............
thanks snags. worked in Hospice for years and was constantly suprised by how people altered their own outcomes
Canadian news is projecting that Obama will "most likely" win tonight.
am so upset, watching the news, by how so many had such a hard time trying to vote... not right!
agree with you Bug. In June, I had a ct scan on my lungs, it can back abnormal. I wasn't worried though, just my nature, the second one came back fine. Had a mamogram in October, came back questionable.
I have to agree Aloy. I don't understand the American system that allows the states more rights on how they will hold a national election. I think the nation should have the same rules. but, I am Canadian so my opinion is not worth much
Second mamogram followed by a mri showed things ok............ again didn't worry!!!!!!!!!
so glad things worked out so well for you snags. two scares is tuff
as I said, I didn't worry, my hubby did enough for both of us. I told him I don't worry until there is a real reason, that is just me!!!
and thank you Bug.
love and hugs to you and to Frank
:)
...and to anyone else who is struggling
Obama re-elected .
is it true? my ding dong phone rang and I was called away..
four more years! all networks now calling it for obama. even fox
Apparently
I hope things continue to get better for your nation.
We can always move nearer to you Bugsaw!
((((((((Everyone)))))))) *relurk*
I need to use the relurk button more often Stid. ;)
Hi all - quick visit before heading out to the gym.
omg... I fervently hope for an end to the divisive (is that a word?) state of our congress, so self-destructive and non-productive.. oh wow, I guess I can concentrate on the grid now. howdy stid
actually status quo. dems keep senate, reps get house, obama is prez
Maybe since they've failed in their mission to oust Obama, they'll go back to not sacrificing the American people to their political ambitions ... Nah, probably not ..
hi all
Extremely sad day for America. A man with a mandate destroys the economy in the first four years. A man with a mandate cannot work with Congress. Now he is a lame duck with no mandate. 20-22 trillion in national debt is a realistic possibility.
Apparently, the majority of Americans are perfectly content with a President who has done nothing in 4 years. Not sure what that says about us as a country.
Hi all -- just looking in to see the reactions! Perhaps now the good ol' boys on the Repub. side of Congress will wake up and smell the roses.
amazing news: http://alturl.com/srdd4
It's about time.
they will wake up and smell the same pile of crap they've been smelling for the next four years. I don't know how it will be possible, but this congress will do LESS than what has been done in the last two years, and by my estimation that is nothing.
haha, cos!
washington state also voted to legalize it tonight
glad to see Obama got all the electoral votes in... Canada
For your sake I hope you are wrong Knight, but I'm afraid that Romney's offer for a co-operative position in Congress was good only in the event that he won.
Just what the country needs - more potheads. We certainly are making progress.
Molly, you haven't ben paying as much attention as we Canadians have. Obama has achieved a lot of good things. I am now not going to say anything more, other than the fact that most of the world was in favour of Obama.
Want to go back to prohibition, Knight? -- that wasn't very successful, was it?
regulate pot like alcohol will bring in a lot more money for the state
I voted yes.
Absolutely Cybernan, just don't take my $100 bottle of chardonay
well said, jill
Jilli, I live here in America and I have been paying a lot of attention to what Obama "hasn't" done. And with all due respect, the "rest of the world" doesn't live here and have to deal with the consequences.
Thanks, nan, and now I shall leave until after the flip, at least.
There you are incorrect, Molly -- whatever the US does certainly affects us.
bye, jilli
perhaps obama can annex Canada?
Wow, seriously? Canadians pay more attention to what our President does or doesn't do than Americans?
no thanks -- I like the parliamentary system, our education programs and our healthcare
And btw, Mollu, I went to school in NYC and loved there for many years as did many of my family -- I still have many US relatives and close friends I keep in touch with.
lol. "loved" there is indeed accurate, although I meant to write "lived" there.
I made a business trip to Canada several times
Toronto is beautiful
*poof
Kind of the way my 7 pound cat pays more attention to where the 70 pound dog's feet go than the dog does, Molly. If that makes any sense.
I married a Canadian. However, I wouldn't insult Canadians by speculating on their government or their choice of elected officials.
you got it, sue!
Sorry Sue, that doesn't make sense at all. But I will leave you Obama lovers to revel in your victory.
most Americans don't even know what the capital of the country is, never mind anything about our government
So the demise of the American economy and a 16 trillion dollar debt is good for Canada?
Glad we could help
I think you are taking a very narrow minded view of things knight
Pure fantasy IMHO.
not to impinge on the political debates, but could someone share the stats for the i in the bottom row? thanks.
Yes, 16 trillion in debt is nothing to worry about. 2% growth is outstanding. Please pass a joint to me, I need another hit
Ir5/10, jes
iz 4/9
iz4, jes..
ir5/10 and iz4/9
thanks, that's NBT :)
grats, jes :)
Knight, I think you are forgetting that it was Republican led governments that put your country so far into debt to begin with
on my way -- back at the flip :)
Bye nan!
Yeah, i forgot. THat darn George Bush - what a loser. It's good he's there to blame
g'night nan :)
debt when obama took office = 5 trillion, debt now - 16 trillion. Bush is more powerful than I thought.
half way
and that's all for me tonight. sleep well when ya'll get there.
Night jes!
sweet dreams, jes
In physics terms, knight, you are looking at two positions and assuming that the initial speed and acceleration were zero. Then the second position is due entirely to things that happened after the first. But the velocity and acceleration weren't zero, and you can't ignore that.
Maryland just voted to legalize marriage equality.
Great, Sue. I would give all my money to back a physicists for president. Will you run?
It looked to me like all four marriage equality votes were on the way to passing, cos
maine will win too. very close in WA and MN
plus, could you provide me a study that shows that economics works according to the laws of physics?
Well, I think the country would be better served if it were run by scientists than by lawyers. But I am not running.
I don't much care about debt, the government did what it had to in order to support "peace keeping" missions already begun by Bush... that stuff's expensive. Could have just pulled out all the troops instead, then tried to find them jobs here, probably without much luck, and gotten negative flack over that, too. oops, is that too radical a viewpoint?
However, my former colleague, Bill Foster, did win.
Agreed Sue.
I don';t care about debt either, I don't have any.
Maine passes mariage equality, washington legalizes marijuana like colorado did
yayayayyayayayayyayayayyayayayyayayaya\ny
Personally I am not even convinced that economics works according to the laws of economics, at least as they are currently described
agreed sue
i just got back from richmond va and 17 hours at the polls!
And what jmc said :-)
i was trying to find a giant emoticon with a shit eating grin
just use obama's picture - same thing
would much rather have a mellow black dude in charge than an anal flip-flopping right wing extremist from the Mormon church - but that's just me. but that's because at the moment he's the lesser of the two evils, imho, sigh...
Do you even read anything not approved by Rupert Murcock, Knight?
Ok, time to go home, see you all later!
lol sallyds
het
no sally, i am a toothless redneck hillbilly what caint read
bye, uusue.. tc
I didn't suggest you couldn't read I asked if you read anything other than biased material?
hey, so am I, knight! except for the not reading part, lol
I didn't know that Rupert Murdock was a writer?
bye uu hugs and kisses
All writing is biased.
i agree that all writing has a bias but that is not quite the same thing. . .
I am saddened by the partisan baiting and negative comments on babble tonight. There was a time when we maintained a respect for other's opinions here, and did not demean those with different ideas. I am very disappointed in this former welcoming and safe place for people who love words and word games. Debating topics does not require putting other people down. *stern mama look*
maybe i am only seeing what i want to see but i am only seeing good natured ribbing. . .
cue the violins
I don't see anything partisan, either. but I haven't read back all that far.
your organization sounds intriguing jmcnrick
ty knight. . . now that the election is over maybe i will have the time i need to get it really going. . .webpage is up but more work needs to be done
hi all
It is going to take that type of thinking to get this country back on track
stats for the P for nbt
ps5/12 x2
i have very definate political beliefs but i think the place where we have to put our efforts is to the changes that are nonpartisan such as redisticting and campaign fiance reform so we can work together without agreeing
Wish someone would tell Romney the election is over
ty smores
Oh for God's sake, this is not a "former welcoming and safe place". It's still both of those. People have a right to express their opinion, even if it doesn't jive with the "majority rule" here.
give it time smores. . . . give it time
yw jmc
hi molls
thanks for letting me be my giddy self!
*bounce bounce bounce*
<===wonders if it were a mistake to drink coffee on drive home from Richmond
whew, over half, happy with that. see y'all after the flip. (oh, and I personally think a bit of tussling makes this place much more interesting.)
lol jmc
Good night all - God bless Obama and this wonderful country. I survived the last four years, I will survive the next.
bye rbud
No mistake. You got home safe, albeit hyper.
GOt to work on a new icon
g'night Knight
*bouncey bouncey bouncey*
<==== me hyper?

I'm glad for the people who are happy about the election results. I understand why other people are dismayed by that. We are all grown ups here. And it's not likely that we are going to sit around singing Kumbayah on election night. : P

Boobs?!?!?! Where??
?boob sighting....hmmm
It's on my top ten list of how ____ met ____
molls is referring to when i met my hubby at the court house
got tors attention...lol
i was representing a bunch of anti-draft registration demonstrators and basically had no clue. . .
so i would go into the lawyes lounge and this cute guy would give me advice. . . .
i finally got all my clients released and i was talking to this cute guy in the hall at the court house and he kept getting hit by a door opening and i said--we could move
but he said no, no it was all right. we went out to dinner that friday night and the date was over when i went to Meeting on Sunday
sometime later he told me he first fell in love with me when we were standing in the hall because i didn't we** a bra and my shirt had fallen open. . . he said he fell in love with my right boob. . .and he didn't want to move because he was afraid my shirt would straighten up and he'd lose his view. . .
romney on tv now conceding
only a cute story because we married. . . otherwise. . .pretty creepy hahahahaha
hilarious jmc...lol
Conceding graciously, thank goodness.
we moved in together within 2 months and married little over a year later. . . .
