5:22 am

The Pope quit?

5:23 am

Yep, I just saw the news on MSNBC. He's retiring at the end of the month. At 85 he can retire and relax.

5:25 am

I think it might be a little more complicated than that.

5:26 am

How?

5:27 am

Popes just don't "retire".

5:29 am

Not in 500 yrs, but he IS old and frail. And the Catholic Church wouldn't have any secrets or hidden agenda, would it? (I am a Catholic.)

5:29 am

Pope's retire; it's called abdication

5:30 am

That's what I mean. It's considered an abandonment of obligation (Popes are expected to serve until death) and is a HUGE blow to the Catholic Church.

5:32 am

He's old and frail and this pales in comparison to major issues that have led to droves of people abandoning the Catholic Church..

5:36 am

Hm, "mortem" is rejected. Latin, I guess.

5:36 am

Hi all :)

5:36 am

John Paul was old and frail towards the end as well. And by huge blow, I was not referring to people leaving the church, just that it is stunning news as it rarely happens.

5:41 am

Hey Liz.

5:42 am

:)

5:42 am

My friend and her husband flew into Sydney on Saturday morning and will enjoy 2 wks in Oz, then a week in NZ.

5:43 am

Hope they have a wonderful time. I like Sydney - to visit, that is. I wouldn't want to live there but then I'm over city living!

5:44 am

I hope to visit NZ some time before too long!

5:44 am

They are traveling all over Australia, seeing the highlights.

5:44 am

I'm sure they'll take hundreds or thousands of photos!

5:45 am

I know I did on my first visit here!

5:46 am

When did you move there?

5:46 am

4 years ago - love it. Such a good decision!

5:47 am

Where did you previously live?

5:47 am

London

5:48 am

It's great to wake up to the sun on most days and the weather where we are in Queensland is not generally too extreme.

5:48 am

I have a neighbor that grew up outside of London. She married an American guy and came here 25 yrs ago. She is a lovely, wonderful person.

5:49 am

I am stuck with 45 left.

5:50 am

I loved living in London (well, outside London really) - probably didn't take enough advantage of what London has to offer. It was time for a move though, along with early retirement from teaching.

5:50 am

I'm struggling now with 51 left!

5:51 am

49!

5:55 am

Well, I'm done with 44 left. It's time to stop staring at the grid.

5:56 am

I might also come back with fresh eyes tomorrow - down to 48 now but it's slow!

5:56 am

Have a good day Scrabs :)

5:59 am

good afternoon, all

5:59 am

Hi sprite :)

5:59 am

hi Liz :)

6:04 am

have a peaceful evening, Liz :)

6:05 am

6:13 am

6:36 am

Well, I have 101 words, so time for a break with some breakfast and some exercise! be back later!

6:48 am

Morning folks

6:49 am

morning, bichon

6:50 am

We ar *still* snowed in from the storm. Grrr

6:51 am

oh, dear, any hope of rescue soon?

6:52 am

Everyone in town was supposed to be plowed out by last night. Didn't happen in our area

6:53 am

are you running low on supplies or food?

6:54 am

Just milk. But, for two adults, we can manage. I'm going to have to cancel a dr's appt and my husband can't go to work.

6:55 am

well, thankfully you have power and the computer to pass the time. :)

6:56 am

is the snow over now? I've not checked the weather channel in a day or so.

6:56 am

yes, thankful for that. And, we shoveled out the entire driveway. But when the plow does come, we'll end up with lots more stuff in the driveway. Snow over, icy rain today. Driving would be treacherous.

6:58 am

oh, no, and you'll have trouble dealing with that mound they'll leave at the end of the drive, especially with some ice thrown in, I imagine.

6:58 am

we are going to walk out and look at our road today to see whether it is well plowed or not, to see if we can go to walmart.

6:59 am

hurshy, my daughter lives in West Haven and they only have a very narrow line of plowed road on their street.

7:00 am

I couldnt believe the amounts of snow some towns in CT got.

7:00 am

yeah, it's doubtful. sigh.

7:00 am

Our dogs have been running around loose in our driveway. They can't go anywhere.

7:00 am

Annie, we got 3 feet.

7:00 am

lol

7:01 am

I can't imagine what that must be like, three feet! it's been ages since we even had two feet or so here in Illinois, though it has happened.

7:01 am

bichon, a lot of snow. hopefully you can get out this afternoon

7:02 am

We thought blizzards were a thing of the past

7:02 am

next time, i'll buy fruit. sigh.

7:02 am

and I shudder to think it is only the middle of February.

7:02 am

First we're going to get freezing rain this morning, turning to all rain. This will all accumulate in the driveway. Will take movie of dogs skating

7:02 am

just read "the long winter" and then this will not seem bad at all.

7:03 am

And I like winter

7:03 am

I bought the autobiography of Sonia Sotomayor yesterday. Cant wait to receive it.

7:04 am

I like winter also but a reasonable winter.

7:04 am

i am glad i grew up on the little house books

7:04 am

bichon, we are "4 seasons" gals or ladies (whatever you prefer)

7:05 am

Yes, I don't get how people live in places where the only difference between summer and winter is one is rainier

7:06 am

agree. or florida where it is hot or hotter.

7:07 am

But I like Florida very much in bits and piecs.

7:07 am

I've actually been in South Florida when it's been cold [relatively]. Not very often.

hi Mom

7:48 am

((mom))

7:48 am

((Annie)) good morning! Is the car dug out and ready to roll?

7:48 am

Hello, Annie

7:48 am

Didn't work for me, hurshy. I have 3 cats but one is especially mischievous. This morning he was upset that I wasn't feeding him an hour early at 5:30 so he managed to get behind my armoire and unplug the TV. He has done all manner of damage and earned his name...Dodger. But since I have a real weakness for "bad boys" I actually find him amusing...except at 5:30 in the morning!

7:48 am

hello ((Peri and Crossy))

7:48 am

Mom , yes, we are ready to roll

7:49 am

well sure, cats aren't ALWAYS quiet - but they of5 are.

7:49 am

I am lucky, I have a very patient cat

7:49 am

excellent, Annie :-)

7:50 am

Ziggy, he does get me up at 6:00 a.m. but that is a good thing

7:50 am

now when it comes time for Sweetie to retire, it may be a different story

7:52 am

Got all 3 of mine as strays--the brother and sister since they were tiny. They have ripped posters off the wall, chewed through the speaker cord of my computer and through my Bose headphones cord, ripped up the carpet around the edges....I could go on and on. But I do love them and they give me lots of affection. I keep reminding myself it's the living creatures that matter not the inanimate objects. I've had to barricade my computer so they can't chew the cords anymore.

7:52 am

we might add that Peri's cat just turned 17 last week

7:53 am

good morning Mimi, oh dear.

7:54 am

I realized too late I should only have older cats....it's like raising toddlers at age 61. My last two cats were 18 and 20 when they passed and never sick a day. Also never as cleverly destructive as Dodger.

7:54 am

Morning, Mom.

8:07 am

hi teach :)

8:07 am

Hi teach

8:07 am

You're right, crossy--and they're not confined to the floor! When I first got the younger ones I had to go away to a job for 12 hours a day. It was like leaving toddlers unattended and, wow, did they destroy things.

8:07 am

Hi, teach!

8:08 am

(Annie) (crossy)

8:08 am

good morning Smores and WVTeach

8:09 am

and mimi, for cats with wire/cable gnawing issues.just go to the auto dept of your hardware/auto parts shoppe and ask for 1/2 wire harness tubing.you order it off a roll by the foot and it has a slit along one side of the tubing and you can insert you computer wiring/electrical cables etc and then they are safe from kitty

8:09 am

mine aren't too destrucive, but very demanding, very early in the morning.

8:09 am

Good morning

8:10 am

great idea crossy

8:10 am

hi car

8:10 am

I kind of tried that awhile back, crossy...with bad results...you don't want to know...

8:10 am

(car)

8:10 am

weird, my kittens were never destructive.

8:11 am

car.! How are you? How much snow did you get?

8:11 am

Dodger is a dangerous combination....destructive and smart. I know, hurshy, I've never had cats like these before either.

8:12 am

I had one a long time ago that was like that. Used to drive me nuts....yeah...that's my excuse for being nuts :)

8:12 am

hello Car.

8:12 am

Hey, great idea, smores...I can blame my craziness on the cats!

8:13 am

I must scoot. Hugs to all of you. Make it a great day. ((Hugs))

8:13 am

Bye, Mom!

8:13 am

Bye ((Mom)) have a wonderful day

8:14 am

She would stalk people and dive bomb them. Once she somehow got up into the space between my cabinets and ceiling, my friend was over and opened the cabinet to get a glass and she dove on his head.

8:14 am

Bye Mom...enjoy your day :)

8:16 am

Sounds like mine alright. A long time ago I was traveling with my cats cross country and we stopped at a hotel. I couldn't find my male cat but could hear him. He had somehow managed to get into the chest of drawers behind the drawer. Hey, but I just remember when I raised monkeys at home...wanna talk trouble?!!

8:17 am

My pet rock rarely is hard to get along with.

8:17 am

I knew you worked with monkeys....didn't know you raised them at home...lol

8:17 am

8:17 am

Good morning BR

8:17 am

Had 3 at different times. Two wooly and one squirrel. Wouldn't recommend them as pets.

8:19 am

There you go, BR!! I actually collect minerals and, yes, they are quiet and just sit there looking pretty.

8:20 am

Good morning Steve, 142

thanks BR and smores

8:21 am

They're too animated, BR...but I sometimes feel that way about the computer.

8:21 am

Another gloomy day here as well, but at least it's not snowing

8:22 am

We have a wintry mix going right now. Snow again later this week.

8:22 am

Our weather is taunting us here....really cloudy and looking like rain but it never does rain....mean.

8:22 am

car!!

8:22 am

Hi Crossy

8:23 am

Gotta go...hugs all around.

8:23 am

Bye mimi {{hugs}}

8:23 am

{{MIMI}} enjoy your day dear :)

8:23 am

FYI; 3 people shot at Wilmington, Del. courthouse

hello all

8:24 am

Hi and bye, TO!

8:24 am

Hi TO

8:24 am

soft

8:24 am

oops

8:24 am

Wow, peri...not again. We just had one of those here a couple of weeks ago at a mediation. What is happening in this culture?

8:24 am

Expecting snow later this week

8:25 am

I have no idea what is happening here in the US.

8:25 am

wow peri, not good

8:25 am

I have had enough snow, thank you.

8:25 am

I just want to go home. I want my life back.

8:25 am

and now it is time for crossy's tidbit of the day!!!

8:25 am

Did they get the person?

8:25 am

it is on TV now but I turned it off

8:25 am

Gadsby is a 1939 novel by Ernest Vincent Wright with over 50,000 words, and not a single word contains the letter "E.

8:26 am

?car where are you

8:26 am

at least 2 babblers live in Del. but don't know where they work

8:27 am

Very odd crossy

8:28 am

why are you not at home car?

8:29 am

Still no power...probably not until Thursday. I am at Trif's exes' house...believe it or not...with my Mom, the dog and the cats and my nieces. Mom is just so confused.

8:30 am

:(((

8:30 am

The boys are with DH at his mother's house. I miss them.

sorry to hear that, car. hope they run ahead o schedule

8:31 am

whew! glad i got that left side all greyed out:)))

8:31 am

{car} so sorry

8:31 am

poor ((car))

8:31 am

HOWEVER...in the grand scheme of things, we are very lucky, and I know others who have it much worse, so I will finish my complaining now.

8:32 am

Just found out that all the streets around us have been plowed except for us. Grrr.

8:32 am

Yes, at least you have somewhere to go, but it still sucks.

how much snow, car and bicj?

8:33 am

Oh Bichon! I am so sorry :(

8:33 am

Hi bichon...hope they get to yours soon.

8:33 am

We got 3'.

8:33 am

See! Shutting my mouth now.

8:33 am

eekkk

8:33 am

I called Public Works and bitched.

we got two feet once and it was a three dayevent

i don't even ewant to think about 3

8:36 am

BRB..gotta get some breakfast

8:37 am

Bye smores

8:37 am

How is the knee, Car?

8:38 am

Hi BR! Getting the MRI today.

later, smores

8:38 am

Honestly, the pain is not as bad, but I still need to know why it keeps crapping out on me.

8:41 am

Well, I fixed two cavities with super glue and duct tape today ...

8:42 am

Oh tell me you are kidding!

8:43 am

The duct tape keeps the super glue in place until it hardens

8:44 am

Then the challenge is to remove the duct tape

8:45 am

:) BR

8:46 am

interesting.barnes and noble is set to close 20 book stores a year for the next 10 years in the u.s to streamline its operation.at this same time frame it seems that 42 independant "mom and pop" book stores have opened.what do you think of this trend?

please could I have a clue for the O in the middle column

8:47 am

Did you see that?!?!? The batter hit a h****!!!!

8:47 am

Wow..hadn't heard that crossy...

8:47 am

i for one would love to seem the rebirth of small mom and pop book stores

8:47 am

Hi Jenny

8:47 am

ty car

hi smores and all other babblers

8:48 am

Me too crossy, love to hear mom and pop shops coming back

8:49 am

here is the article for B+N http://tinyurl.com/bbju479

8:49 am

Not just bookstores but small business in general needs to be supported

8:49 am

om 4/5; om 4/5 ; or 5/12

8:50 am

Although I do like B&N prefer HalfPrice books though

8:51 am

here,it is very hard to find a book store selling new books(barnes and noble does not exist north of the border) here if you want new,you order online

thanks BabbleRabble

8:53 am

That's why I like HalfPrice books, they have new and used. You can also bring your old books in for trade and they support the local schools.

8:54 am

we have one used book shoppe here in town and for online i use biblio.com

8:55 am

taking a break. bbl.

8:56 am

Bye for now car :)

8:56 am

never been on biblio.com

8:56 am

it is a good site and ships world wide

8:57 am

Is it dangerous to swim on a full stomach? Yes. It's better to swim in water.

8:57 am

it is a group of world wide book sellers and you can also call them direct

8:58 am

i have bought several hard to find books from them

8:59 am

ugh..BR :)

8:59 am

Cool..may check it out.

8:59 am

i find that the books themselves are a reasonable price 5-15 dollars for the common stuff but the shipping usually matches the cost of the books

9:00 am

they penalize us for being canadian lol

9:00 am

EEk...that's not good. Is there a place in Canada?

9:01 am

for what?

9:01 am

biblio.com is online only,no brick and mortar stores, smores

9:02 am

A bookstore based in Canada so the shipping wouldn't be so bad

9:02 am

many are from canada, especially on the east coast so once you find something you can call them direct

9:03 am

the down easter;)) seem to love the old books more

9:03 am

but many shops that register with biblio are in the u.k then it gets expensive

9:03 am

Have you been on Bookcloseouts.com? I think that at least one of their wharehouses are based in Canada. I used to order a lot, but somehow the shipping became much more expensive. Amazon still has reasonable international shipping.

9:04 am

i have not michnick.i will give it a look see.and it is always the way in that shipping becomes an issue

9:05 am

there have been several times that i have paid the same for shipping as i did for the book itself

9:05 am

They have good prices, most books are 35-75%, but the shipping blows away all the savings - local shipping is cheap though.

9:06 am

because of the shipping eating away the savings,i tend to save it for rare, signed, first editions or out of print titles

9:07 am

Well, check it out. If there warehouse is in Canada it might save you on the shipping.

9:07 am

will do

9:08 am

will take a peek now.brb

9:08 am

Enjoy!!

9:08 am

I'm glad we had this chat, I reminded me I have a box of books to take to HalfPrice. Sorted through and forgot about awhile back.

9:08 am

*it

9:09 am

hiclue for the 8please

9:09 am

A lot of local 2nd hand book stores are so picky about what they take and then they give so little for it, I usually just end up donating books to the hospital.

9:12 am

engine males

9:13 am

great clue BabRab!

9:13 am

ty

9:14 am

That's why I like HalfPrice books Mich, they do give a decent amount, but they also collect books to donate to local schools and community centers.

9:15 am

That's good. Nothing like that here, and I always wonder how many English language books do the hospitals really need.

9:17 am

Thanks for the 8 BR :)

9:17 am

mornin babblers

2:24 pm

robot robot robot... there, had to get that one off my chest

3:08 pm

hello again, back to finish...

3:13 pm

Jill, your thoughts on the Pope stepping down?

3:13 pm

Very surprised, also very concerned as to truly why and whom might be selected next....

3:14 pm

Me too. I don't know what is more stunning. His actual stepping down, or the amount of people who say "Oh, he's just retiring." It's so much bigger than that.

3:15 pm

Yep....unfortunately there is always politics...I certainly didn't feel he was anywhere near the caliber of JP2

3:16 pm

LOL, but then again, when I first turned on the news they were talking about his legacy...I thought he had died. But not sure I'm buying this health stuff...my mom's side is german...very strong and long lived.

3:18 pm

having watched both my parents go down with parkinson's, i'm amazed he's been able to keep at it this long.

3:18 pm

very nasty disease.

3:18 pm

It's amazing how many people just believe what the news tells them to believe.

3:19 pm

John Paul II had Parkinson's as well. Lived with it a long time.

3:19 pm

i'm just saying, don't discount the fact of his disease.

3:19 pm

Um, I don't think Benedict has parkinsons...???

3:20 pm

really? i thought he did! sorry if i was misinformed. (i'm not catholic)

3:22 pm

Actually it appears to be arthritis and a history of a stroke. But, in all likelihood, there is something more that we will never know about as to why he is resigning

3:23 pm

JP2 was a true saintly pope, he never resigned despite debilitating Parkinsons...But Benedict was the oldest pope to be elected

3:23 pm

I agree Jill. I think there is a lot more to this that we will never know.

3:24 pm

Oh well, I give in..going to list for my last 24

3:25 pm

And the first pope to resign since the 1400's...says a lot

3:25 pm

you're right - my bad - it was JP2 who had parkinson's.

3:25 pm

Well, it does help to be Catholic...

3:25 pm

my theory is that he wants a hand in directing the future of the catholic church. Can't very well influence the choice of your successor if you're dead

3:26 pm

It's huge and it's going to have a huge impact on The Catholic Church and the world. People who are saying it's no big deal truly have no clue.

3:26 pm

There is much wisdom in that thought mael...and that is what concerns me...

3:27 pm

it concerns me too

3:28 pm

I think the next pope was the chance for some change, however gradual, into the rigid dogma of the church

3:29 pm

At which point I may have had enough...faith does not come from rote ritualistic practices..

3:29 pm

toad

3:30 pm

whoops...really frustrated with the first to4...sheesh

3:30 pm

I was raised Roman Catholic in Italy, I had enough a long time ago. It's very frustrating to watch from an outsider's perspective too

3:31 pm

haha, need any clues, Jill?

3:31 pm

They will lose the majority of American Cathholics I fear...

3:32 pm

LOL mael...too proud to ask yet...

3:32 pm

and nailed it...was fairly fishy

3:35 pm

haha :)

3:36 pm

I'm off, have a good night everyone!

3:37 pm

You too mael! Nice chatting with you.

3:37 pm

likewise, hope to catch you again soon!

3:37 pm

Agreed!

3:38 pm

<---and !!FW!!

3:44 pm

hi all, back to find my last 28 words

3:53 pm

I listed at 24...hi peri

3:56 pm

fw bye for now

3:57 pm

wow peri! 28 words in 12 minutes! yaaaa!

4:04 pm

Good evening from the unplowed. Even if we could drive out of our house the roads are treacherous and there's no food in the stores

4:09 pm

bo 5/16, second one, pls

4:09 pm

Sounds bleak Bich. bo5/16...cleavage

4:09 pm

bo5/16 well-endowed (woman) :-)

4:10 pm

bichon ..bo5 ... bust.

4:10 pm

Clue avalanche.

4:10 pm

ty all

4:11 pm

We have been promised road will be passable by morning.

4:11 pm

oh sorry, i was cluing the bo6

4:11 pm

best of luck, bichon!!

4:11 pm

that's ok, got the idea

4:11 pm

hope you have enough food in bichon.

4:11 pm

It'll be funny driving again

4:11 pm

We have enough food even though we are running low on milk

4:12 pm

This is why they suggest you stock up on things in preparation for a storm. It can take a week to get regular trucking into some areas.

4:12 pm

hope everything goes well.

4:13 pm

I keep powdered milk on hand but I would have to be pretty desperate.

4:13 pm

how much snow have you bichon?

4:13 pm

I hate powdered milk, but don't mind ultra-pasteurized. Hubby won't drink either

4:13 pm

We had 3 feet

4:14 pm

jeezomeez!

4:14 pm

any sign of a thaw?

4:15 pm

Yes, it warmed up and rained. Now we have big puddles in the driveway. I think the dogs have been splashing in them.

4:16 pm

hope it continues.

4:17 pm

at least the dogs enjoy it!!!

4:18 pm

How can one tell. They like rolling in anything. At least they haven't climbed over the snow banks and trotted around on top of the snow, or worse

4:19 pm

re: getting snowed in and supplies.i was in fuel business for 30 years and a lot of people really do not realize just how little fuel is on hand.i live in a town of 20,000 in a heavily traveled tourist area close to a main highway but ALL the fuel for southern ontarios is from 3 refineries all in the same location near sarnia ontario and as such all stations in this area have about 3 days of fuel under the ground at any given time(with normal consumption) this is why i always sake my head at those who spend their lives with 5 dollars of gas slopping round the bottom of the cars tank always on the hunt for the "deal"

4:19 pm

I'm making past fagioli tonight. That should cheer us up

4:19 pm

Ooo yes Bich, that is good, hearty soup.

4:19 pm

Good winter fare and it will last for days

4:20 pm

It makes the house smell good too. : )

4:21 pm

A few women went into labor and had to be carted off in an ambulance and some people with a small infant ran out of formula. How can you run out of formula if you know a big storm is coming?

4:22 pm

ttfn, FW

4:22 pm

that is insane

4:22 pm

bye bichon and good luck.

4:23 pm

People truly don't know how to stock up with the correct things for a big storm. Look at the carts in the store the night before a big storm is to hit. They are full of ice cream and junk food.

4:23 pm

when we lived further north,we used to shop for 2 weeks at a time.home place was 20 minutes to paved road and hour to first store hour and a half to first town

4:25 pm

i and still remember the seemingly incredible amount of dry goods we used to stock(lots of flour),pasta, tea, sugar, dhydrated taters.powdered and condensed milk, tons of root veggies, soup fixings.etc.etc

4:26 pm

oatmeal,,brown sugar,beans ,dried pea

4:26 pm

we live in a small village but thankfully not far from ameneties but we are always stocked up with essentials

4:27 pm

and because we were in the bush everything had to go from its packaging to cannisters.a whole sea of cannisters

4:27 pm

or the mice would have a party

4:29 pm

and lord i used to hate powdered milk but always had the condensed for coffee or tea if it came to it

4:29 pm

now you can get milk that lasts for ages sealed in tetra packs

4:30 pm

yes and you can also freeze milk in the plastic bottles.

4:30 pm

well, yes, toss em out in the snowbank if the power is still out

4:32 pm

fingers crossed ... hope the power doesnt go off.

4:32 pm

after 5 or 6 day outages with the wood stove going and board games, and cards and books and the kerosene lamps going you alm ost get annoyed when the power came back on lol.well all except for lugging pails of hot water from the top of the wood stove to the tub all the time

4:34 pm

touch wood ...we have never been in that situation.

4:35 pm

the longest I can remember being without power was about 24 hours.

4:35 pm

been long time for me as well, though even after 20 years of not having it i can still smell the distinctive smell of carnation canned condensed milk in my mind

awseome crossy :-) That's how I spent the first 10 years of my life..... we didn't get the power to the farm until I was ten!! .....it was a wonderful life, I might add.

4:36 pm

hi diane.

hi mo :-)

4:37 pm

diane, looking back it was nice indeed.except when it was your turn to go across that ice cold floor in the morning to stoke the stove and put the big kettle on to boil

no problem.... and being the eldest of 5, I learned those little chores at an early age. However, my dad always had things started before he headed into town to the meat market.

4:39 pm

biggest problem i remeber is after being out in the cold all day working or fishing or sledding, you pulled the liners from your boots and put them on the stove fender, ate 2 bowls of hot stew and half a loaf of crusty bread slathered in butter, sat down in from of that stove and it's pulsing heat and instantly fell asleep:)

4:40 pm

i could never stay awake in that house unless i was activly moving:)

4:41 pm

wow look at the time, 10-40pm .. must be off .... nice talking to you and happy babbling. goodnight all.

4:42 pm

tc mo

I would not change my childhood for anything .... I grew up in a wonderful era, and our kids tell us that ALL the time.

night night, mo

4:44 pm

i still have 2 old lamps for emergency use.beautiful things from the 1890,s but my mrs fears kerosene lamps

4:46 pm

she so fears knocking them over that she is forever unconciously trying to knock them over when lit.i have to put them high

We had both,... kerosene and gasoline. I have a feeling that the gasoline were a little more dangerous as they had to have pressure pumped into them. I still remember how to prime a mantle !!

4:49 pm

I would be afraid of cats around kerosene lamps.

4:49 pm

and replace the delicate mantle bags? hehe they were naptha lamps.we had them but were mostly for outside as they are quite loud and bright

4:49 pm

although aladin comany used to make indorr pressure lamps but they were always too expensive

4:50 pm

wow,some typing on my part;)

even though on a farm, we never had animals in the house..... cats were in the barn and our collies never came farther in than the porch.

Hi Molly

4:51 pm

we also mever had indoor pets at that time

5:04 pm

I meant the present day cats around the present day kerosene lamps.

9:46 pm

It's been a sad night here in Babble Land. First, young Jill at her teenage dance where she was "the loneliest number" and now this. *Gets more tissue*

9:47 pm

9:47 pm

And good for you Liz, a grateful heart is blessed.

Yipes...forgot about a call I need to make...bbs

9:51 pm

9:55 pm

How sad that there's no such word recognised as mo 5 - adding a y to the mo 4 /6!

9:57 pm

Oh I am sure there are some cutsie pie people who use that word. Same people who say Squeeeee! a lot. : P

9:58 pm

11:38 pm

11:38 pm

hi hootster

11:38 pm

.. I was reading about the pope stepping down

11:38 pm

Where is everyone?

11:39 pm

dunno.. probably all finished

11:39 pm

Saw the story - I don't blame him at all. Been a hell of a time.

11:42 pm

I would have to say.. he's been my least favorite pope of them all

11:43 pm

.. but not that I have had a favorite pope to begin with

11:47 pm

sorry went for a drink - he was pretty crotchety

11:47 pm

I think he protected the crotchety priests... literally

11:48 pm

Ru - did you ever get your knee fixed, been moving and not hanging around alot.

11:49 pm

Yeah - but you see the pics online? It looks like he aged 20 yrs in his short time.

11:50 pm

was reading a wildly speculative article about that just now

11:50 pm

I think he got fed up with them.

11:50 pm

hi cos - in what way?

11:50 pm

HBO had released a scandalous movie last week about the sex scandals... and a week later the pope resigns? that was the basis of the article

11:50 pm

nope.. my knee is still screwed up

11:51 pm

aah -

11:51 pm

How come ru? I thought you had a date

11:51 pm

Do you really think he watched that cos?

11:53 pm

Nah. I dont think he wasted his time but the article says he may have heard about it and got so frustrated and resigned in protest. like i said.. wildly speculative :)

11:53 pm

still vacillating

11:54 pm

something is not right with him stepping down

11:54 pm

I thought it was a def go ru? How can you stand not being able to play?

11:54 pm

you don't spend your whole life trying to become a pope and get all the goodies and then quit

11:54 pm

watched the HBO documentary and immediately wondered if there was a connection

11:55 pm

great question hoot... I can't answer that

11:55 pm

I think he was too cranky to let that bother him. I think he just got tired of making excuses and lying.

11:55 pm

I read he never wanted the job in the first place Ru. but that doesnt mean its true .. it was in HuffPost

11:55 pm

i DON'T believe that for a second

11:56 pm

ok ru I'll drop it. Actually know how you feel since my hip went bye-vye

11:56 pm

it was prob him saying it to look "humble"
