*swallows an appalled giggle* spritey we are now running 6 theatres on the staff for 4. and we are in the PRIVATE sector. and the recovery room has just had it's bays cut to 8 bays. given that there must be 1 1/2 bays per theatre, this means we need 9 bays for 6 theatres, and we have 8 bays.

Yes, elephants have amazing dexterity in their trunks and use them for so much. Can move a heavy object out of the way or pick up a peanut from the ground. Such amazing creatures.

No, ruby, I'm going to keep this for a while (I hope!). It's been so cold and rainy and yukky here that the lilacs and lilys of the valley are a month late in blooming and my forsythia bush didn't bloom at all
normally by now we have roses and peopnies but they're not even close. I finally got 2 iris but I think the rest will shrivel up without opening. And the nascent fruit is falling off
Usully spring here is fabulous but never came at all this year

yes; I know. I think that the Church needs to look at its' stance on homosexuality. I remember when we got married (38 years ago!) that the priest who performed the ceremony wrote an article in the U of MN daily paper and he had the best quote ever: being a homosexual isn't a sin; it's the sexual act that is (the same as sex before marriage)
debating on whether I should go in or not. I have a video to return to one of my nurses; and I like to drop in every so often. But I'd rather garden instead. :-)

carlee, there's been some sort of bug this year that has caused really bad coughing which can last for nearly a month. I ended up going to Costco and buying the dble pack of 120 cough drops of Ricolah --and went through most of them too. Hot honey lemon tea, salt water gargles, and chloroseptic throat spray can also help.

Be sure and check your temperature and make sure you don't have fevers; if you are feeling short of breath or you are coughing up ugly green or red or brown sputum; then you need to be seen.

BTW, short of breath in medical terminology is often abbreviated as SOB. So if you go in and that's what they write on your chart or their notes; it isn't a bad thing.

carlee, check your temp. If you think your sputum is ugly green and you do have a fever and you are SOB; do go in and be seen at a urgent care or clinic. It isn't a waste of tax dollars then; but prolonged hospitalization for bilateral pneumonia and system failure is a total PIA.

the secret to pho is the star anise ... the broth is relatively mild, but is generally spiced at the table with chili sauce, nuoc mam (fish sauce), and the inclusion o basil leaves, mung bean sprouts and jalapenos (I skip the jalapenos, myself). Some people like oyster sauce.
I think anything hot and somewhat clear...tea and honey, broth, etc. will get your mucous membranes producing.
When I have a cold, I put in the extra-spicy chili sauce... ;-)

Well, to be honest, life got in the way! I had intended to go on to get certification soon after my initial degree, but things didn't work out immediately. However, I continued tutoring and then teaching our own children while volunteering in some schools. When I had an opportunity to return to school a few years ago, I jumped at the chance!

(this one I HAVE practiced and can almost say with a straight face) You can find teachers with more experience at this level, but you won't find anyone more enthusiastic to teach kids this age. In fact, it was teaching the lesson that I am demonstrating for you -- to kids at this grade level -- that I realized it was time to follow my dream and get my certification.

That's a tricky question, jmc! It depends to some extent on the type of abuse and whether there are legal ramifications against certain strategies. I am a teacher who expects student behavior and language to fit a safe learning environment. I ignore small things the first time, give a warning the second time and ask for backup (from other teachers or administrators) after that. It's the PBiS model. For outright verbal attacks and dangerous situations I call the office immediately.

PBiS, btw is a behavior management system used in a lot of the local districts, including the one I am interviewing in. It has a series of progressive consequences and a reward system.

I got kicked out of class a lot .. for being a smart mouth.. can you imagine?
PBIS is a great program.....research based and effective....if you have been trained in it, emphasize that...(school psychologist here, lol)
;-) As long as I know which kids have tics... I have occasionally as a sub not been warned that a kid has a verbal tic and given consequences that were not reasonable for those students.

"day dreaming" isn't necessarily a bad thing -- I call a student's attention back to the task at hand, or call on the student to answer. A lot of kids that people think are daydreaming seem to be experiencing absence seizures or ADD, so they need a different approach to keep focus.

i speak from personal experience of me and my boy penq. . .when i was in school it was called underachieving. . . i was just bored because the class was so slow and after all of my siblings getting to skip a grade the school system decided skipping grades was bad and i didn't get to. . .

yes, penquis -- and I find that the kids who couldn't sit still in K-1 develop an attitude of low-achievement; by the time they hit middle school they have become the class clowns or the designated "bad kids" when what they really need is recognition of and adaptation for their particular learning needs.
They aren't "bad" kids, and they certainly aren't "stupid" kids but they don't have a history of success and that means they get left farther and farther behind.

i was busy using answers to questions (use this word in a sentence) to write a character sketch of johnny (what a card my johnny was) and making up stories about the characters of the different numbers (every one secretly or not wanted to be 10)
I love 6th grade -- they are cantankerous, but so full of energy and life! They need guidance and help with organization, a LOT of organizational scaffolding! But they generally want to learn, and that is exciting.
