I think Beulah goes out of her way to make herself as awful smelling as she can! If she can find something dead to roll in its rolling it the mud to now this encounter with the skunk. And Else(the boxer) is just a follower.
Actually, most dogs do that if/when they can. To "mask" thier scent.
I freaked out when i got my first dog and she did that, so I called the breeder. She says they all do that, generally

they might enjoy the smell but I sure dont! So they had to spent their first night ever sleeping out on the deck(which they are none too happy to do)

Usually right after I'd put on her flea drops for the month, sigh - I often wondered if the smell of the drops motivated her to try harder than usual to get past someone and out the door.

i've been having a bit of a rough patch the past couple of weeks in dealing with marty's finite lifespan, but am improving.
The thing is, however much you think you can prepare yourself for how you're going to feel when the end comes, you can't. You can only go with how you feel at the time.
emotions can be so unpredictable, yes. the trouble is that the end hasn't come and i don't know when it will and i feel like i can't afford to fall apart a bunch of times BEFORE it does, you know?
currently waiting on results from tuesday's endoscopic biopsy to know the severity of the IBD and whether any lymphoma involved and maybe they will give me a sort of prognosis then.
I know. But you've got so much emotion invested in Marty that it's inevitable that you're going to have a strong reaction to what's coming.

but, the kidney prognosis was wrong, so i know these things are not an exact science.
My only advice re treatment is that the vets might offer things but you are not obliged to take it up, especially if you feel that the down side outweighs any benefits.
yes, it sounds like we're only talking about pills for treatment, haz, so, nothing too extreme. but even then if there is a chemo pill for lymphoma i know that's a judgment call in terms of kidneys vs cancer.
My feeling is that just because you can extend Marty's life, it doesn't mean that you should. What is that continued life going to be like?

and so far, really, he's fine. a bit lethargic the last couple weeks and has diarrhea, but that's it. mostly he's still happy, purrs a lot with the cuddling and so forth.

I have had 5 dogs and always feel guilt when one dies. Like I should have done more. But with my first Newfie, it was awful. I let her go too long. She had bone cancer. I swore to never do that again to an animal.

My next Newf also had cancer, lymphoma. when she was 12 she got a painless neurological condition that caused her to lose control of hind legs. we had to use a harness to help her walk.

just checked.we have various types of rain right through till next thursday at least
here too, a week of it.... but we shall see. supposed ot be very heavy sunday
luckily flooding is never an issue here since we are right georgian bay and everything drains into it
I had to run errands today, light rain whenever I was in the car, torrents as soon as I stopped and had to get out of the car. The worst was that I forgot shadow was in the yard when I left, one soggy doggy when I got back, ever glad to see me.
on the lake here, but drainage is very poor because there is so much clay, the water tends to run off rather tahn into the ground. infrastructure is ancient ( but being upgraded slowly) so heavey rains flood eveyone's basements and yards
though in 1990 the water level was such that during ice break up the wind picked up and the ice rafted up on shore to such an extent that it took out several homes

easy chicken salad....cold chicken pieces mixed with walnuts and halved grapes....held together with mayo....

imple paella, just shrip and chorizo
2 cups sugar 8 cups water (1 cup for sugar syrup, the rest later) 1 1/2 cups fresh squeezed lemon juice In a small saucepan, combine sugar and 1 cup water. Bring to boil and stir to dissolve sugar. Allow to cool to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate until chilled. Combine lemon juice, sugar mixture and the other 7 cups of water. Serve over ice.

My 4th of July was good even though I never got to Babble
I will be on the east coast in December, but not sure yet if we will just stay in the Norfolk VA area or tempt a trip to MA. Depends on whether our son in MA can come down to VA.
I hope you can figure something out so you can meet some people, Min. As for too far north, I don't know. Plenty of Babble players in Canada and from what I have read, people have driven hundreds of miles to attend Babble get togethers.

as basil does not grow in winter i use all my summer crop to freeze lots of pesto

He and his sister have been with me since they were tiny babies and have never had any trauma...they're just really skittish.
Yep, lil...no more painkillers...and glad for that as they became an issue for me. Now it's just aspirin and some vodka! Don't worry about becoming an alcoholic, though, since it puts me to sleep too fast!
