"Warm Bodies" It was really very good. 6 word review: George Romero does Wings of Desire. nite, jwr!
hiya, m9.
Hello. working on my last 19.. finally had to list
OOhh.. a zombie movie!
It was sweet. My son fell asleep before he could watch it with me. I think he'll like it. It's a story a shy guy could relate to.
I'm now watching the trailers.
It reminds me of the Boris Karloof "Frankenstien", too. There's an element of pathos. And it is funny.
OK. Mediocrity achieved. nbt nbs > halfway and all ≥ 7s. I must say I thought the ti7 was just bad English!
Karloff. bad tpying.
typing!
whoah.. I only have 19 left and still don't have all the 7's.LOL

good morning
hiya, ruby! (((hugs))) how goes it?
{{rbud}}
hello!we had a huge thunderstorm last night but it's beautifulthis AM and smells so sweet
but I had to sit and cuddle both dogs until the thunder stopped
how is your weather?
and, more important, how are you?
awww, poor puppies! they do hate the noises, don't they.
oh, it's hot, (and so am I, haha) hard to sleep. time to put in the air conditioner, I guess.
we have aircon, but only in the bedroom, but it's hard to isolate the dogs, so we don't use it much
BTW, I agree with you about small town life. I can't imagine ever living in a big city again
I had a sad moment or two on the 4th of July, remembering how my little doggie would cower under my chair when the bangs and booms would start up. She died in late Jan, thought I was kind of over it by now, but...
I felt the same way as my Ruby died in Feb and she used to cower in my closet when there were fireworks
I thought these two dogs weren't such "fraidy cats" lol
I don't those feelings ever go away
think*
that's how grief is, you grieve less often, but it never goes away entirely.
when a beloved pet dies, it leaves a big hole in your heart
yep, the oddest little thing will bring back something or other to remind me. She was at least 18 or so, a lot of years.
I grieve more for my lost dogs than for anybody else
that is a long life for a dog, but I guess small ones live longer than big ones
Ruby just made it past 10, the oldest of all my chows
It's my dad for me, but not looking forward to shadow going
folks bug me now and then to get another one, but I figure she just fell into our life, and the next one will, too, when it's time. :)
but we immediately got a new puppy and the junior dog in Ruby's life has "stepped up" and become realy close to me, sensing, I think, my sadness
oh, cute dog, joso, what kind?
since we've had such bad luck with some of our chows, we always have two now as it makes it a little bit easier when the time comes
my London family just lost their dog whose name was Shadow, too
yes, it's odd with dogs, the larger they are the shorter the lifespan. for the rest of the animal kingdom the reverse is true, whales 100+ gnats a few days
exactly
Do either of yoouknow a book called Zoobiquity? It compares human and animal illnesses and is fascinating
shadow is 10 now, and starting to grey around the muzzle, sleeps a lot too.
a little bit technical, but very good at providing insights
never heard of it, sounds interesting. is it french?
have to go to lunch but will be back later
No, it's American, written by a cardilogist and a vet.
ta ta ruby
I can't read French for pleasure, just newspapers and menus
lol

hi Sprite
hiya lyn :) xxx
nice biggies today
seems challenging though not concentrating very well here
that right bottom corner is a veritable black hole today. So far a fun grid.

ty lynx

Good day to all.
hi scrabbler
Hi Crayola. I don't remember where you live.
out west. I should be asleep. :)
So not quite 4am for you. Yes, go to sleep.
Went to bed at 9 because I was so tired...then woke up at 2. Not a good sleep pattern.
Sometimes it happens.
I've passed halfway and am not seeing much more, so I will get ready for work. Enjoy the day, Crayola, and lurkers.
have a good day, scrabbler
good morning everyone:))
hi crosshair
howdy,crayola:)

hello crayolA
((ruby))
iS LYNXX STILL HERE?
whoops, errant pinkie strikes again
hi ruby
hah, half!
well done
the queen's dogs keep showing up....what's that about?
hah. yeah I wasn't sure if it was a proper noun.
yaaa for the barkless dogs!!
It was my 2 am fuzzy musing.
I didn't know that about co's. I like it when my dogs bark; it's a kind of early warning system for the gate and parking
and if I say OK, they stop immediately.
then you get those nasty little ankle biters that bark at every shadow and squirrel fart
<--doesn't like little dogs
chored
sorry, was too excited at seeing crossy to even bark....
Me either. I prefer labs. My daughter/son-in-law have a mastiff. That's a little too big!
but mastiffs are so sweet!
He is such a sweetie pie, yes.
Doesn't realize how big he is. Wants to sit on me.
when my male dog, Rufie, wants to cuddle, I have to brace myself against an immovable object or else I fall over
lol
and he' a lot smaller than a mSTIFF, ONLY ABOUT 80 LBS (OF MUSCLE)
my brother has a mastiff now ruby!!
I keep hitting capitals by mistake, sorry
what's its name crossy Thor or Buster?
i actually forget the name but it is something huge and impressive.got a picture of the family and the new dog in front of the christmas tree and looks like the sitting dog is half the height of the tree
hahah
I have a pic of me with the two pups but can't figure out how to post it in FB
I look like I have a Mohawk as Rfuie's tail is behind my little head
i have a scanner.if i can get it to work,i will scan the picture for you later
I have a new scanner, but can't figure out how to use it
makes great copies, though
i have gotten lazy of late and use my iphone for all pictures since it is so eary to transfer pictures off the thing
easy
eery sometimes, lol
and now, the Tour beckons
See you later, kids
lol, still watching the parade of spandex tushies, ruby?

some of the packaging is impressive

Bye Phae
Hurshy....both R

Just go round in circles Hursh. : D
Hurshy...both R's are used. Just dance around them a little bit for both.
re6/18 its a normal word just twisty
I think she means use both
aha, got them. thanks
hi River
hi molly, smd, and river!
actually hit enter before finished. Stroke caused me to have little twitches. Sorry.
Hi sue
hello everyone
that's ok, of course - humourous. although now i feel guilty for the humour at the expense of a stroke victim.
Don't feel bad Hurshy. I am ok!!!!!!!
Oh that's so cute! You even use the extra vowels like a British person!
diti
*grin*
oops sorry
got the re, thanks! A word close to my heart at the moment :-)
i try, when i remember - and the other day at sudoku i said "oh sod it"!
A bare spot on the lawn?
dext
har har har
I am stuck with 34 to go - maybe should give the eyes a break
But British people spell that word as humorous, humourous is incorrect whichever side of the Atlantic you're on.
rats.
Hello Haz!!
colour, but not humour. ok.
Sorry!
:D
You can be humourless, however.
well how does THAT work
True, true
Ah, now you're asking difficult questions.
And hello, hego.
:D
so is it just with the -ous, or what about plain, is it humour or humor
On its own, it's humour.
It's the same with odour, gone bad it becomes malodorous.
There'll be a rule for the whole thing but with so many qualifications and let out clauses it's best just to accept that English is quirky.
Get out clauses, rather than let out clauses..
"malodorous" would apply to the peeping tom caught in a septic tank.
A real life filthy looker.
And all this time I thought O'Dour was a grumpy Irishman. : D
must go. bbl
ok so it's like, it just looks funny to have two ou in a row, so you don't do it.
so i wasn't wrong about the root.
The root was correct, yes.
thank you for the guidance :)
I'm looking up my Oxford Language reference book to see if it can be extra helpful.
left col grey!
Nouns ending in -our change this to -or before the suffixes -ation, iferous, ific, ise and ous.
The exception is colourise/colourize.
*dutifully copies and pastes to notepad*
-our keeps the u before other suffixes but exceptions include humorist and rigorist.
And commit it to memory, of course.
name that proper noun! mysterious top gear driver
Stig!
arbour and arboredun
i have to have it written and see it and read it over and over before it will stay in memory.
ding ding ding!
arboredum
:)
yaaa for the letter u!!
arboretum.
i think.
my sense of spelling is suddenly undermined.
hi crossy and haz!
like someone said english and my typing are quirky
suze!!
phantom: seash5
ty hursh
Hello, uusue.
hey! that wasn't supposed to be a CLUE!
worked for me:))
got me two words:))
*silently fumes*
;)
:P
did it get you on7 and of8?
did now;)))
14 to go!
life's a beach hursh...
Okay, time for me to go. Toodle-oo.
so grab a partner and get sand in odd places!!
bye haz. thanks again.
bye haz!
and hi ruru!
good morning sue
finally broke down and fired up the a/c for the first time today:))
ch6 ... toddlin' town minus "ca" plus extra vowel
exit
gm.... and sorry
hi kje! Had that one :-)
ty hursh,no way i would of found that one
coming and going kje?
ty hursh
oh, maybe you would have, crossy
That is some crazy toddlin'
always, ru
anyway I must be off - getting a lump removed from my back (cyst), wish me luck! (very minor procedure)
bye for now, sue! bye forever, cyst!
good luck suze.i will have a blt waiting for you when you get back;)
sounds good, crossy!
I had that procedure done last January sue
i'm off too, all done. ttfn!
It left a little bit of a hole
It sounds painful
Good morning, all!
Not really, it was all done under anaesthetic
Ah, I see the topic of conversation is medical procedures.
lower right o... have the of4 and of8.... other?
We could talk about Andy Murray's Wimbledon triumph if anybody is interested....
on7 kje
ah - lol - ty
The Queen's canines are in the grid again.
hocus,pocus,co**** pie,mumbo jumbo,pigs can fly
Ptui! Furry pie.
I would be happy to talk about Murray's win.. it was really great that he beat Novak.. he earned it and worked hard for it
Nice segue way to dog pie and tennis.
hi all
Hope no one steps in a dog pie while playing tennis.
would liven things up at least
hmm kje, now looking for that of7
stats for the third column R please?
With the tempers on some of them, there might be some flinging involved.
ru - time to stock up on some white - any recs that are great deals?
doing the Mcenroe
re6 - quit work and then PT
Is the Of7 a compound word?
TO - of8 and on7 - related words
no of7
ty kje
yw
got them, ty! i just watched someone on tv making a potato chip frittata.
Phooey.
potato chip sare used for a shortcut for the spanish tortilla often seen in tapas bars
Gottem both. I would call those both compound words.
yes. i love my potato and egg frittata, greatest quick dinner. But i can never make them like mom did. never took to others, though, like pepper and egg and squash and egg
4th column O and f stats please?
Mmm. Frittataaaaaaah.
og4 - monster
had a pasta one but too heavy
fo4 - alpine winds
judi, are you a pepper and egg gal?
or 6/21
ty for the f
and fo 4/7
cross can you clue that or 6 please?
Pepper and egg gal, is that like a buffalo gal?
As a matter of fact, I had peppers & eggs for breakfast today. I did make a potato & egg frittata for dinner the other night. Also threw in some cheese and herbs. Yumsy.
best i can do is it is almost like a french fry and tater tot manufacturer in the states
oh, the cheese is a must. add parmesan until you can smell it. that is the tip
they deal in potato products
Ooh. A tater tot base for frittata would be nice.
just change vowel at the end
or + most of goose down
there we go,use kje,s clue
i now cheat and use potatoes o'brien. defrost then saute them
Funniest recipe I have ever seen was tater tot casserole. Calls for a "buttload of tater tots". : D
i was thinking of the name brand for fries\
lol kje, i almost typed the potato brand and you nearly clued it! :)
You know you're a redneck when you measure in "buttloads".
Everyone should have a salad shooter. It shreds potato and onion up in seconds and you can make your own hash browns.
cannot stand tater tots myself.they have a odd taste
:D i had tater tot casserole. not for those who count cholesterol.
i love any kidn of french fry
Tater tots are made of pressed potato sweepings. : D
was going to say "buttload" must be on the list right after inches and cubits:))
Unfortunately, Tater Tots taste best when deep fried. Although, if you leave them in the oven long enough, they will get really crispy.
The armpit word is back again.
judi, try a pinch of basil next time.
Thanks, TO. I love basil, so I tend to use a "buttload" of it.
a little goes a long way for me. but no cooking today, i am fighting ants. and also had a click beetle!
so a pinch,a dash,a squirt,a shot a fistfull and a buttload
Judi you should watch Chef Fabio. He puts a buttload of basil in everything.
no. it is very strong. the only time to use a lot is when making caprese salad, deconstucted
I have not seen Chef Fabio, Molly. Is he on the Food Network?
i have an idea what it is but its not working in the grid
http://fabioviviani.com/
i've seen several cooking shows where folks made their own tots. tots are hot in the restaurant world right now.
or6 - mineral deposit + 15th of march
Ty. I'll check him out. He doesn't have long blonde hair and pose for romance novel covers, does he?

Ugh. I hate yogurt. My husband eats it, but I refuse to even look at it.
The City just announced who our new City Administrator is going to be. He starts Aug. 1. I Googled him. He sounds very qualified. Hopefully he's not a total a-hole like the last CA.
How is he on Basil?
Ha! The jury is still out on that one. I'll be sure to ask him when I meet him.
My friend on yogurt: I will not eat anything with the consistency of snot.
LOL. Well, I wouldn't compare it to snot, but I do have issues with the texture. Same goes for Jello and pudding. Yeech.
I'm not big on yogurt as a rule either
Shut up, Ruru. I know what your dirty mind is thinking.
*blinks*
Don't look all innocent!
Okay, kids. I'm outta here. Y'all have a groovy day. See y'all tomorrow! *POOF*
I am truly lost on this one Judi
unless she thinks I'm having sex with Bill Cosby?
Man Ru, you don't even have to say anything anymore. Your mind is being read.
And I wasn't even thinking that, but now I am because she mentioned it.
it's too early to have dirty thoughts
Go back to sunshine and butterfly kisses then.
mmmm,deep fried butterfly frittes

Do you know what Judi meant Molly? I'm lost?
It's too dirty to expound upon here.
okay.. I will let it go.. I didn't understand what the hell she was talking about.
All I can say is that the "lowering the tone" badge of honor is all Judi's now. : D

Ah memories...the ice truck, the milk man, the knife sharpener guy, the ice cream man who rang bells instead of playing that annoying music.
good morning/afternoon everyone :0
that made my kids crazy
hi nan :)
and Pappy Abernathy nextdoor who took us neighborhood kids for rides in the sidecar to his blue motorcycle :-)
nice, Une
there was still a milkman in this little town when i was in grade 2... they waited until he retired to get rid of the position. we still have knife sharpening trucks that come around - even in toronto :)
hi une :) that sounds like fun, bet you kids were lined up around the block waiting your turn!
he didn't do it often, kate, but it was soooo fun when he did!
Soda Fountains. Which were a combination ice cream store/grill. The guys behind the counter wore white paper hats. And they made your milkshake right in front of you.
Pappy was one tough dude -- he had an accident at work -- 2 pipes swung together on his finger and cut it of . . . he picked it up, tossed it in a cup of ice, and drove himself to the hospital!!
I used to be a soda jerk.
*cut it off*
But I wasn't a guy and didn't have a paper hat.
hego LOL
:D
the kresge's downtown niagara falls had one of those molly! lunch counter and booths (with table juke boxes) the waitresses also did the cooking, such as it was - hamburgers, grilled cheese etc... hego... there's a lne-liner in there somewhere.

The Princess Theater with a boss named Buford. It doesn't get much more southern than that. : D
you have no idea!! LOL
and only one screen . . . "Dr. Zhivago" ran for a month! :-)
The drive-in on the other hand was EXCITING! :-)
You got to know the movie by heart.
we were in a dry county so you drove around behind the Red Ace station to buy a pint of bourbon, then used the drive-in concession stand cokes for setups! LOL
occasionally the owner would let us in for the 'price' of a paper bag full of bottle caps :-)
niagara falls had a princess theatre too... first movie date i ever had was for a matinee of jaws.... 75 cents admission....
we have all the seaside breezes in the grid today. on and of+.
:-D
ch 6/30, please?
naughty une ;) bourbon and coke at the drive in!

Very romantic Kate....not.

take 5... down to 46, but seem to have ground to a halt....lickety here i come ;)
Urg.... need this game as an app on my kindle!!!!
i think you can play on i phone toad, hi :)
Playing on the web via my kindle. I just like babble expert better since I rely pretty heavily on snickety. Don't have an iphone.
if you can "open 2 pages" you can still use lickety.. babble grid, stats, and word list on one put lickety on the other... you can still transfer your words from the gid list to lickety using the bulk add/grab box... just copy your list and paste it into lickety
...you don't have to worrry about the word points, lickety takes care of that for you
Yah.. just so much easier on expert. Its ok. I'll survive.
But if you get Expert, Lickety will be on the same page
It's the Beta V12
FW, anyone need a clue?
hagd all
cjongratulations bichon!!!! hint for the re 6/21, re 7/32 (combo?) please?

My daughter is trying to update to the Pro version. Should she get an email with files attached, or a link to get them? It was so long ago when I got the Pro version, I don't remember any more. Do any of you happen to know?
aslindy, are you talking about Babble Pro?
or Babble Expert?
and hello all -- babbling from the comfort of the new sofa and nothing to do now until someone is home to help me put my bed together...
ok, she said pro
I think it happens automatically -- the login should just lead into the full babble screen with all the stats
what's the difference between pro and expert?
ok, thanks. I thought she meant Babble Expert at first.
pro is what Dr God put together and it costs money (about $15 for a lifetime subscription), expert is what Lickety put together and it is free
and what is expert?...how is that different from the regular lickety page?
expert is a nifty, windows-only application that has lickety's list integrated with the grid. As you enter things into expert, the list is populated automatically and sent to babble for official counting. ;-) It's nifty. but I have a mac
Babble Expert gets you a special browser that is only used for Babble, with separate panes for the Lickety list
ah...ok...
plus it has a special window for entering words, and if you enter more than one word it goes to chat instead
all we need is 500 more new subscriptions for babble pro and maybe drg will remove babble from legacy software and be able to afford to give us the updates promised long ago
maybe 499 now that my daughter subscribed? =D
i did sign up for babble pro, since I do like this site and wanted to support it....
maybe:)) what name is your daughter going to use so we can keep an eye out for her?
Kiani - and my other daughter is FirkinUrchin.
cute names, as lindy

18 wheeler mkg
me, as i do, i see it everytime i start yabbering on. the problem with me, is as i'm in the house alot i don't have a lot of contact with people and especially adult conversation, so when i do i chat and chat and chat and bore people to death

about to go make dinner. steak tonight, a treat!
Have fun mkg!!
sounds great TO. i cooked myself a rump steak the other night as a treat as i don't eat alot of red meat anymore but occassionally it's nice to have
I made a zesty fish stew for dinner. it turned out quite well.
you never bore me lillian.chat away.heck my beloved says my tongue is hinged in the middle so it can flap on both ends;)
i'm not a fish person peri but i will admit to having plaice with a light dusting for tea tonight, but that's only as i need to defrost one of my freezers which has lots of different fish in for the bairn as she loves it.she had tuna steak for hers
<-------Agrees with lilliann...I love chatting with you!!
i'm not a fishy fish person.the bairn is having salmon tomorrow
he
L, I would rather have you in here chatting than most of what I read here.
brb
i could make a roman cheese herb and spice coating for some specked trout fillets fried in creamery butter that would bring a tear to yer eye, lillian:))
romano
L. your chatting does not bother me either. if it bothers some people they do not have to read it or they can change to Whos online or my friends.
I eat mainly veggies but I do eat seafood sometime and this was easy to make.
yup the chat does have a on/off button as it were:))
aww, ty crossy molly and peri, it's more my opinion probably but i think i do put people off...so now i will bore you all for hours LOL :D
Hello all just starting. Yesterday was so hot (80 plus degrees) that I just melted. Oh my. Today is 10 degrees cooler and I can function again. Glad to see you all.
Glad you've cooled off, Gran Mere.
hi stidgmere
lol,i spend my life putting people off:))
i don't like spice crossy, i can put up with a little, the same as the bairn but not too much and trout is full of bones isn't it? is that fishy? tinned salmon with loads of malt vinegar and that great(i know, i'm a he4en)
wife says the only tine i am not a royal pain in the caboose is when my nose is in a book:)
i bone the fillats
fw now off to have some of that fish stew
fillets
hi ((gmere)) glad you are cooler today.
when my fish hits your plate it is bone free and amazing
Yay!!Wtg peri!! :) tc hin and enjoy your fish stew
as long as it's not fishy crossy, i'll be there, so put a plate out ready :)
are you coming over to england and ireland this year crossy?
i know the last time i asked, you weren't sure
mm,not fishy, they it is haddock or that Tilapia for you, lillian
looks like the layers dragged it out too long, lillian.i still need some international id,so now it has to be bumped till next year
lawyers
I didn't used to be so wimpy but there is no use pretending when the stuffing is knocked out by heat. I am going to orchestra tonight. I've practiced my pieces and the big news is that I've been helping out on percussion, too.
i can get out with the id i have(Uk passport) but i may have a pita getting back in:))
i've seen tilapia in the shop and was going to buy some as it was fresh and on sale but i didn't know if it had loads of bones in or fishy so i didn't and it was about £1.20
Good for you Gran Mere!
you playing tonight ,stidmere?
Yay for you stidgmere
if it is alreays skinned and in fillets,it will have no bones, lillian
and it is a very delicate non-fishy fish
Just rehearsing, crossy. But you know, there are some aspects of piano playing that seem to be improving for me. I'll never be a child prodigy but I hope to be solid.
good for you gmere, that is brilliant :)
and that is not a bad price for them
<------------------!!FW!!
You are my support group for performer wanna bes.
Congrats jilly! I have only 1/3 of the words.
play like no one is watching:)
that's a shame crossy, but then you might have a better holiday next year as in be able to go to more places.
yaa for jilly!!!
Pretty easy quick grid stidge...you'll be done before you know it
and ty all
Yay!!Wtg jill!! :D
Ty crossy, I need to try that. Maybe a little soft shoe, too.
it is sad, lillian they left us no time, since the rail/sail tickets fron london to the ferry on the coast and across the irish sea to dublin only run till the end of sept and we would be pusing it
we'll be behind you anytime gmere:)
pushing
I shall be looking forward to crossy and wife crossing the oceans and seas arriving in Ireland next year.
we have the itinerary, just not the time now for this year
:((
well, you never know, it might be cheaper next year and if you have the moeny, you can book it earlier which is normally cheaper for some things, and i may then spoil your holiday and appear :))
hey all!
Hi stiddy!!
you can crash my party anytime.since i will be travelling most of the way across the UK,i will be keeping all UK babblers fully up to date as i may come close to a few of you
Matthew is here, Mother, and we are having fun talking about "stuff"
Good, Hi Matthew. I'm just sitting here quietly improving my mind.
the tilapia i saw was in a big supermarket off their fresh fish counter but int he sale bit in the shop and it was in a bag that we couldn't see the fish, so i don't know if it wsa filleted or not.but it was a canny length. i only like plain haddock, i can't stand smoked fish.the bairn loves...ahh, i've forgotten what they are called the yellow fish foe breakfast
hi stid :D
:-D any improvement helps, eh? *wicked daughter grin*
i do not care for smoked fish either.i like them just the way they come out of the water
i doubt you'll come up north croosy, but if you ever do you and Elegant are always welcome to stay
*crossy
lillian... there was a really cool BBC article this past week about a "Geordie" Roman god -- they found a statue up north. I thought of you, of course...
kippers, i had to google.. they smell the house out for days!!
*giggle* I thought "croosy" was northern for crossy...
call me anything you like, just do not call me late for dinner:))
I used to love kippers when I was a kid, Mother would make scrambled eggs and kippers, and buttermilk biscuits... *drool*
crossy does not eat fish for breakfast;(
it could be stid , lol oh wow, i've never seen that programme stid. where was it found and what was he called?
why not, cross? a bit of salmon on toast, with a good cup of coffee... *sigh* it's heavenly
I will find the link lilliann, hold on.
the smell put's me off and then they are full of bones
nope,a few rashers of bacon, eggs, hash brown, english muffins fresh preserves and i am a happy crossy
found in a place called Bincester http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-t\nees-23164533
crumbs -- forgot to tiny it. sorry all
did not seem to derail the chog that time
I think the hyphens in the BBC links "saved" me this time
oh wow stid, it's in County Durham where i live, i'll have to look into it more, ty hin
neat! :-D
Heading out for dinner....probably won't be on again tonight, so hagn all and see you tomorrow!
have a lovely evening jilly! see you again soon I hope.
was it a Roman fort?
it might not be as it is coming up bincester
I am not sure, they seem to think it was at least associated with a Roman encampment of some kind
sorry, i meant binchester
I think there was a Roman presence all over the place. They were sort of like fleas, or bedbugs...
we had roman placements all over this country
I bet it's fun to grow up in a place with so much family history -- although I grew up (mostly) here on the Salish Sea my own family is not part of the landscape the way it was back East when I lived there (only we didn't know part of our family was from there at the time!)
bye jill and tc :)
i didn't grow up in the north even though alot of my family live or wer from up here. i lived down south for a lot of years.that was where i was brought up
oh! so you speak with a southern drawl? I did, for a few weeks after we moved out here, then I decided to conform to the local patterns (which are pretty much standard American with a mid-West origin)
my husbands family are all from here.mine are from here, wales, england and scotland
ah, you have a diversified portfolio!
southern english anyway :) but more northern now, but when i'm angry with my daughter the southern comes out
alot of my family are welsh and i'm related to Howard Hughes
Mother said that when she visited England (in the south, near Winchester and Chard) that each little village seemed to have its own language, though I am sure there are some commonalities between locations in districts
me to lil + ireland, call myself british mongrel
lol joso, me too, apparently, i think there is a bit of irish in our family too
we all have different accents and dialects, the same as any country
that's interesting, lilliann -- he is pretty famous around here because of his spruce goose -- there is a big museum south of portland (I want to go there some time)
though my mom's side comes via the west indies
I wonder if you are seeing an erosion of local variations like we are? Seems that the media uses a plain vanilla speech pattern and vocabulary and so people copy that instead of using their local language
he was my great grandmothers nephew and he ended up un the US.he ended iup going mad and had his home in the dessert covered in sheets and would go around naked all the time
that's interesting joso. where abouts?
Well, that is an interesting person to have in the family tree!
all over, granddad worked for lloyds bank in their colonial program, three years at a colony and one year leave back in england. mom born in trinidad, got aunts from jamaica, tobago, cuba
my grandmother had papers to testify that he was a relation when he died but her nephew's wife got hold of all the paperwork and just burnt it thinking it was rubbish and plus he had money in loads of businesses that the lawyers told them it would be hard for them to get any money.but he got his money from my great grandad to start with who was wealthy in wales
H H was a fascinating guy, too bad he fell apart
i didn't believe my mam and dad when they told me that i was related to the famous Howard Hughes but they have told me loads of things and shown me what they have and they aren't the type of people to lie about family, so there we are.i never knew him, only what i've read and heard from the family that are still alive
wow joso. have you ever been to any of those countries and do you have family members there?
L, have you seen the movie "The Aviator"?
that's the thing about family histories, lilliann -- someone told Matthew we are related to French royalty (a common fancy it seems) but I explained it was unlikely - and why, and a little digging revealed some family long ago might have been workers in a town the kings of France owned... LOL
about every 3-4 years my brothers and I would be sent to jamaica for the summer.
that's a strange time of year to head there, joso -- would have been more fun in winter, I suppose?
summer school vacation, would have liked to skip school but mom was not having it
no, we actually are related stid, no lies.i'm going to have ot do more digging whilst my dad is alive and able to tell me everything so i can get all teh paper work
I didn't mean you aren't, I meant it's so easy to dismiss stories of fabled relatives because of the all-too-common wishful thinking tales. After all, who wants to be descended from a drunken, lazy innkeeper?
i don't want any money, but it would be great to have him in my family tree book.i've written everything down that my dad ha told me so far and there is alot that's alike but things that aren't in the news, as they say he is american, well, he was but not by birth
I understand! :-)
well, who wants to be known as a relative who went mad but he did alot of good things when he was alive and was a very intelligent man.
well, down to 21 I think I am going to list
i've seen bits of it molly but not the whole film
exactly stid and who wants to be related to hitler!! :(
he was, indeed -- I think if he had lived a little longer he might have been "ironman" like in the movies.
grandma used to lay on a tortuous 'tea' for us, full of cakes, tarts, all sorts of sweet baked good, of which we could pick only 2, gave me a completely distorted idea of an english tea untill i grew up
i need to look into it more myself and get all the paperwork.i would be proud to call him a great great uncle
I feel so sorry for people who feel their entire family name has been ruined by a single individual. I bet there were many lovely people over countless generations who did good things. But I have experienced discrimination based on my name by people who knew someone with the same last name -- and it's hard to overcome their prejudices.
jamaica for the summer sounds great joso
oh joso -- what a mean thing to do to a child. *disapproving mama look*
have to head out to take the kiddo to his college. Back soonish. *poof*
ah, that's bad joso, only two sweets!! :(
I wouldn't feel ruined to be related to H H
bye stid, tc hin
eventually we figure out what was not taken one day would be there the next with one or 2 new choices
i don't feel ruined and i don't want anything, i just want to prove that i'm rel;ated to him whilst my dad is alive to tell me everything he knows
be great to have such a fascinating relative
Hi, everyone! Lil, when I met my birth mother I found out I am related to an American President, Rutherford Hayes, and a French painter, Millet. Kind of interesting.
such an interesting guy, makes you wonder what his latter life would have been like with modern mental health care
i know some things from my dad and what i've read, but what i've read is all in America.everything i know is from the welsh side and that is where he is from.i need to write everything down and record what i'm told by my dad as i forget certain things
hi ((mimi)) so we both have famous family members
((lilliann)) And my own personal claim to fame is that I once went out with Burt Reynolds.
my granddad could look at a long list of multi digit numbers and instantly give you total, kind of cool, and usful to a banker, but no spruce goose.
i know joso, i worked in mental health for alot of years and it has changed over the years but with what my dad told me, i don't know whether he would ever have accepted help. he didn't like people going into the house as the sheets covering it were to keep all teh germ out
the good thing is, is that i can get copies of birth certificates and other things now
lucky bitch mimi, how old were you and him then?
yea, he had enough power to refuse help very efectively, but a bit of lithium might have made a huge difference to his latter life
s
i wish i could be as good at maths like that.are you like him in that way joso?
good at them, and enjoy higher maths, but not that good at pure arithmetic
It was a small date one time...met him at the TV station where I worked...long story. I was 21 and he was filming Deliverance but don't know how old he was. Very nice and funny man.
joso, i think any relative is interesting if you look into their history.we all have interesting family members whether they are heroes and fought in any wars, down to being doctors, nurses, famous people, it doesn't matter, as they are our family, aslong as they're not killers but alot of mine were coal miners in wales and up north
thats far better than my only near brush with fame mimi, almost saw the beatles really doesn't rate
nearly's good enough joso :)
I sometimes feel like a female Forrest Gump since I moved around a lot and met several famous people at different times...met Pres. Jimmy Carter twice!
once was enough mimi?
Looked up Burt's bio---he would have been about 36 then, lil. He was going with Dinah Shore at the time and was actually a perfect gentleman...DARN IT!
my mam did backing singing on Cliff Richard's a coupl eof times
*records
I caught a glimpse of Nixon once and his wife came to an Air Force base where we were and I likewise caught a view of her briefly.
did you get a pic gmere?
Saving all the really juicy stories for the book, lil.....
lol
No. In those days cameras were pretty clunky and I had little children in tow.
'dirty old man' mimi :) lol
Just dropped by for a minute and need to go get some paperwork done. Bye and hugs all around.
i'm waiting for this book mimi with baited breath!:)
bye mimi, great to see youa s normal and the bairn wanted me to tell you she will email you this week...i wouldn't couldn't on it, she's a teenager!!(she says she's looking forward to your animal stories)
Good night all. Need to put dinner on the table now. Best good wishes to all.
that's a shame gmere
goodnight gmere, enjoy your meal, sweet dreams and tc :D
I'll look forward to her email, lill, whenever she gets around to it...no hurry...the stories will still be here! Goodnight.

I will bore you to tears if you get me talking about shadow
*innocent mama look*
help on the very first CH word please? I am down to 3
oh heck. all day it threatened to rain but never did. my flowers are shot.
and now it's my last one
yes stid, bright brown eyes that only occasionally peep out
I did that the other day, TO -- and should have watered what's left of the garden at the house this morning, but was waiting for the furniture delivery people at the apartment. Whatever is still alive will make it until tomorrow morning...
ch + personal pronoun + not stay + most common vowel
ch6 great central american city ***ca** + vwl
i think that is the breed of dog that would not let me out ot the bathroom at a friend's house.
ah, a mop-top critter, then. What fun! All of my dogs have always had short hair, except Buffy, and I trimmed her regularly so we could see her eyes and so it didn't get all yucky from eye goo.
hm. thanks joso *thinking*
but i am sure they are not all like that
could be, very teritoial, alway watching ove his heard, 7 cats
got it. I think that is the family name of a nasty pesty thing. Fireworks. *runs off to look up word*
everyone else was outside playing softball. i had to wait until someone came in. not pleasant
yep. call 'em "chiggers" on the East Coast, we don't have them out here.
oooh, chiggers are nasty
well, Tom and I have a bed to put together. I fear it will be a multi-hour project and we only have a little time before I turn into a pumpkin.
actually, i was on the staircase and could neither go up or down.
Joso, thanks for the assist! Nice to see you TO *waves at lurkers* I will try to come back later to help clue before flip. *poof*
ditto, stid.
stranger in the house, shadow might do that, if not previously introduced. once introduced you'd fall into the possible petter category
my firend was house sitting, a large group of strangers at party
i am very small so it was no contest
they are big dogs, strange history. pulled ambulances on the battlefield in ww I, almost died out.
how big is your dog?
on a diet now, down to 120 pounds
and how tall?
lol he weighs more than i do :)
can do a vertical leap of 6 feet, strangest thing you've ever seen.
i am barely 5'2"
and i am an above average jumper but not that good :)
northern french herding dog, herd cattle by running along side, jumping, and bodychecking them. go THAT way
then this dog could clear you and have almost a food TO :D
very bright, but doesn't understand fetch, throw a ball, he gets it, now it's his
yes ru, i was afraid i WOULD be his FOOD
foot
Bouviers look bigger than they are because they have so much coat
but i was much better with the intact male pit bull last Thursday. show no fear
yes, very thick gnarly coat
and his owner was way cute.
you're better than me TO.. pit bulls scare the daylights out of me
cute owner or not
well, ru, if it was gong to bite me it was going to bite me. no fear was the only way to get to talk to his owner
i did not attempt to approach it
well.. I would think twice about staying over at his house .. you might be breakfast.
shadow is curiously gentle, never hurt any of the cats, when afraid of a person he grabs the wrist, holds it, looks at them in the eye, as if to say I could take this, then lets go.
not much chance of either. he let it wander though, folks wre complaining it lifted its leg on their tents
jeezus
i am sure your dog is lovely, joso. my situation was just bad.
but he was a great dancer. the owner, not the dog
shadow is also terrified of scissors
I sometimes wonder why people choose to bring their dogs to events like that.
oh my, that is odd. my friend rescued a newf/lab mix who wauld go for you if you lit a match
they might as well tote loaded guns as a loose pit bull
hope the owner wasn't a smoker :D
I have a theory, the breeder told me 2 of his siblings died when they cropped their ears (I didn't get shadows done), I think shadow may have seen this.
ru, i was thrilled to find new boots at flea market last weekend and was sitting on the grass to try them when i noticed a loose pit. the owners invited me to sit in their car to try them, told me the bodg was friendly. may have been, but in 90+ heat and when there are strangers and lots of other dogs around? I passed. really wanted those boots but they chose their dog over my $40
joso, that may be so. lots of vets will not crop anymore.
Flea markets, another place not really the best to bring along your dog.
I never let shadow of his leed, mostly because of little kids, he loves them, but just too big to romp freely with them.
yes. most dogs owners are very responsible.
TO, I thought of you today when someone sent me a recipe for peanut butter cheesecake brownies. : D
oop, time to gete th emicro brownis bbs
are those like ecigarettes.?
I know he would never intentionally hurt one, but could so easily knock one down, and if in protective mode would prevent the parents from getting close.
*waves to Doren*
molly, if you really were, did you ship them us mail or ups? :P
*waves to Pugmama too *
ccaught me lurking eh ruru?
:D
how ya been pugsie
eh, what's the point of griping?
survivable
oh.. sorry to hear that.. glad you're surviving though
how are ru?
okay.. lots going on in my life right now.. trying to get things sorted out and right the ship.. etc
did you move or something?
no.. but I will be soon
moving is always a nightmare
I know..I'm really dreading it
Moving to San Francisco Ru? I hear there is a doctor there who is anxious to scrub in on your knee surgery. : P
I moved here 20 years ago..and that move is still etched in my memory
AHHHHHGGHHHHHHHHHHHH
I dread moving so much I only do it I must or if I really hate where I am
I understand that Pugs
is doren here?
always such a big damned expense too
moving far, pug?
oh I just moved recently
doren is lurking
about an hour from where I was
Voyeur Le Babble!
ah. then i can tell her we have a new contract. fingers crossed
even though I love the location the place is a dump
I always found that if you liked where you lived. you'd spend less trying to get away from it.
I always found that if you liked where you lived. you'd spend less trying to get away from it.
ah..there's an echo in the corner
I can see the wisdom in that
to the PB with you
You have to love who you live with too. : )
well, i am going now, finished a while ago. happy babbling, all
I rented this apartment once that was horrible.. but I wanted to save money.. but then I went out everynight and spent a fortune staying out of it
LOL
night TO
I can't afford that but I understand the impulse
..very true molly.. very true
I used to know people who were literally only home to sleep, shower and change clothes. They were "out" all the time.
I adore who I live with they just shed a lot
pugs shed a lot?
all year round
that was me molly
and so does the Japanese Chin & my cat
profusely
wow.. try golden retrievers pugs. .they shed a pug daily
wow.. i din't know
used to be a groomer decades ago but I haven't forgotten
the pug I have now is worse than my previous ones. He was bred with a "double show coat"
I could stuff a king size pillow when I shed him in summer
They are such characters.. I love the breed.. they get along great with Goldens.. our show Dog Lily used to hang out with the # 1 pug in the country
I don't know how you folks do it. All that animal hair would make me nuts.
not to mention the animal butts on the bed :D
they have a wonderful temperament. Pugs love everyone
that's true for sure
Yeah, then there is the animal butts on the bed thing. Ick.
he would greet Jack the Ripper like a long lost friend
I have a friend who has a dog and he never bathes it. That dog smells SO bad. So does the whole house.
I bathe Dylan every week
that's the owners fault, my babies are clean
that's cruel too
but I can smell the dog of the last slob that lived here
yes ruru it is
I agree that it's cruel. Dogs deserve good hygiene just like people do.
have a great night folks, I'm ready to fall over. woke up very early last couple of days....
night pug.. thanks for saying hi
Pug, I hope you sleep much better tonight.
May I please have a clue for ti7-32? Thanks
More fatigued Peach. It's a word any English teacher would faint over.
more pooped...
Thanks, Molly and pen.
Did you ever wonder why pooped means fatigued and the other thing? I wonder about stuff like that. : O
it's an interesting thought....English is a funny language...
ri5-14 please....thanks
Just imagine the thoughts in the mind of a 3 year old who is potty training when someone says "I'm pooped".
That would be terribly confusing, no doubt.
ri + not stay + the three *s....as in reading, writing, and math...
Thanks so much, pen.
yw...it was one of my last words...
FW Thanks for all of the help. See you all at the flip.
congrats!
bedtime...g'nite all.....
Odd comment for the day-- Wouldn't it be nice if 'asshog' was an accepted word, just because it's in today's puzzle? :)
Not odd at all ..
Thanks :)
