I think I'll stop in Nanaimo and Long beach on my way up

Salt Spring is well south of Nanaimo and Long Beach.
I really just want to meet Flosey, and Bugs if they're around. We don't need a gathering.. maybe just a nice dinner somewhere.. I can cook.
I did a really nice dinner in NY for my friends.
Flosey is at the south end of SSI and I'm nearer the north. Bugs is north of Nanaimo. We'll work something out.
ah great
that would be a fun evening
I'll have to learn bridge

I learned the trick to sleeping in Manhattan
I never had a problem, but what trick did you learn?
just drink a lot of wine and get a room above the 30th floor :D
I'll try to remember that if I ever get out that way! LOL
my mum and I lived in an apt near the UN building -- not on the 30th floor!
I'm a light sleeper and City noise keeps me awake
well, I was about 14 then.
I'd rather listen to crickets, too!
I stayed at a hotel across the street from the UN on my last visit.. I stayed more uptown this time and Liked it better
The only hotel I've stayed in in NY was the Plaza, back in about 1965.
Hi Pini, rur and & jilli and everyone else here. Just arrived and had to say Hi to Pini
the plaza is supposed to be really nice
hi bugs
hey bugs!

how about you?
tone of the chat?
what time of day, bugs?
doing well, have a new scooter (love it) and have been busy getting ready for the new school year...(got a new assistant who starts on Tuesday; can't wait)!
that's what I need pini
yes, ruru. I have to be careful about what I say and who I say it to because not everything is as welcome as it used to be.
a scooter or a new assistant, ru?
oh.. okay... didn't know there was a conspiracy abound
hmmm, hadn't noticed that, bugs, but I haven't been staying on long.
assistant
<-- not giving up new assistant...
just about all the time Jilli. I don't like to hurt people's feelings and I don't like the judgements so I tend to ignore the chat now and just play
oh see how you are pini
greedy greedy greedy
*grin* just this one instance, ru! sorry! LOL
I could use an assistant in a french maids outfit
my new asst is a guy!
ooh lala
he might not look so good in a dress :-/
tell us more Pini
he's one of my former grad students...
maybe undressed jilli :D
*the plot thickens*
...hands down, incredibly more intelligent than the last asst that I had to let go...
letting people go is hard if when they deserve it and it makes your life so much easier
okay..i'm off for bed.. have a nice evening everyone
*waves to lurkers*

brb
I went to bed about 10 and woke about 12 but I layed back down when I should of stayed up--I knew better
so how is the gang today?
really, you sleep for more than 2-3 hours and you get a headache, every time?
yes I do Joso
fine here pug, finnished grid and just chatting while the movie plays
not no mild one either--like one where you can feel your heartbeat in your ears
have you mentioned this to a doctor, seems something wrong there
boy Iam late -- you all got your fws already
congrats to you and Rose and all others with fws
peach seems to still be at it, I'm sure gran is done, only 90 words

did you make it to the pool
yes i did, rode my bike there
ahem, first time ever i got to 3 words to go before i hit the list. either the words are easier, or i'm actually starting to remember some of the weird ones.
good for you! I bet you are feeling better too arnt ya?
yay, joso. my hero!!
Hi all. Hope this grid is easier than the last couple!
and i have lost 1 1/2 lb since starting the diet 2 days ago...
good for you too Rose
hey liz, couple of ditsy ones, but most reasonable.
Morning Liz
morally better, phyicaly i think it will be a while before bike riding if a pleasure
hi liz
know what you mean, joso. and don't your thigh muscles love it!!!
ez grid, not gnarly like many small ones are
but you did it and thats great!
Glad to hear that. Really didn't like yesterday's.
Well, i have to start my olymic training early
Good about your weight loss Rose! I was doing ok until we ate at friends' last night!
liz, once is nothing. just hop back up on the wagon, dear.
that is very good rose, diets are rough to hold too, glad you are seeing results
what sport are you training for Joso
Yeah I know Rose but I hated the scales this morning!
is triathalon where you swim, bike and run?
i know it isn't fluid, as am on the pee pills. lol. so it must be some blubber going.
my legs and feet are swollen due to this heat
liz, it was probably fluid.high fat content in food tends to hold onto water. it will disappear very quickly, hun. you're doing okay
yeah, pugs. i used to have that issue, and then feet and lower legs started to swell even in cooler weather.
You're probably right - trying to lose what I put on when I was in Canada!
pugs, have you tried compression stockings. i know they are a pain in the whatsit, but they definitely help.
what part of Canada did you visit liz?
No I havent Rose--you mean like ted-hose
Toured around the Rockies, then cruised Alaskan Inside Passage ( I know that's the US)
sort of, dear. the ones i am thinking of are called 'Jobst" stockings. they totally encompass your whole foot.
Joso do you have moose in your area
Skiing?
There wasn't much snow in the Rockies though we saw some in Whistler.
no pug, think of my area as like cleavland without the flaming river
Rose how far apart are you and Liz from each other
A 2 hour flight Puglet
Well i hope you enjoyed, the only time i've been to the rockies was to go helecopter sking
quite a bit, dear. i live in the bottom of victoria, and liz lives......
It was awesome joso.
they are an impressive sight
do you live right in town Rose
if you push it hard, you could drive it in 2-3 days.
They sure are! Every day just got better and better!
no, pugs. i live in the foothills of the dandenong ranges,
is that by car or horse and buggy--lol
Lol
ha, ha, ha,ha....and i still where a bustle...
*wear*
Is Aus. devided into states like us?
Yes? I live in Queensland and. rose in Victoria.
liz, just where in queensland do you live? nearest major town will do.
Gold Coast.
pugs, mainland united states is about the same as mainland australia.
when I this of Aus. I picture the man from snowyriver
pugs, we have 7 states, and one territory.that includes tasmania, which is an island.
think
more croc dundee would be closer, lol
I havent ever seen that show
just checked on the internet, australia is bigger than the united states.
awww, pugs...now i know what to send you for christmas
Wow! That surprises me!
Is that where you were born too
a baby kangeroo?
in fact ,you can fit the united kingdom and most of europe in australia.
Me? No. I'm from London but I've lived here almost 5 years.
do you like it Liz
you can fit GB into ontario with lots of room to spare
It takes about 5 hours to fly from north to south Australia.
It takes about 5 hours to fly from north to south Australia.
It takes about 5 hours to fly from north to south Australia.
It takes about 5 hours to fly from north to south Australia.
Have you travel all its wonders Rose
Sorry it wouldn't enter!
wow! that is big
I love Australia.
I dont like hot weather and everything Ive seen on Aus. looks hot and dry --is this untrue
mostly pugs, have just a few places in tasmania to see, certainly have seen a lot of victoria. about half of new south wales, and most of the australian capital territiry. half of western australia, and none of northern territory.
Depends where you live pugs. Doesn't get too hot or cold here.
oh and, i have only a few parts of south australia still to see.
And QLD.
and the bottom half of queensland
is your soil mostly sand or dirt
Best half except for the Barrier Reef.
*giggle* liz, how could i forget you? besides i left the best 'til last.
:)
pugs, here where i live the soil is mostly clay..
More sandy around here but ours is pretty much clay!
Were you born there Rose
down on the coast, soil very sandy...in the mountains near me, it is either a rich brown, or red.
yup, melbourne, born and bred, short in the leg, and thick in the head.lol
Similar here.
I bet you guys have some beautiful trees and flowers
Does Aus. have any snow at all?
stately, pugs, stately. tall and graceful
Beautiful trees with amazing blossom in spring. Too dry for many flowers here.
*giggle* it has snowed around where i live, but that was an anomaly. higher up in the australian alps, our snow fields are quite good. also in the blue mountains, and down in tasmania.
we have some wonderful botanical gardens.
Liz were you born in London
Oh I bet Rose! I bet its just beautiful there
do you ever go to them Rose
not anymore, dear. the metal in my ankle gets very cold, and the pain can be pretty nasty.
ahh thats too bad Rose--could you use a wheelchair to go to places like that and wrap the ankle in something to keep it warm
on tv they show kangeroos running all over--is this true
pugs, have sent you an email. let me know if it arrives correctly.
okay Rose
pugs, not in our inner capital cities, but certainly in suburbia.
helo?
inner suburbs have a problem with foxes, rabbits, and possums.
g'day ruby. did you see my email?
oh,eah, Rosie and Pugs are here!
yay
oops!!! xoxoxox, to a very special lady.
Yes, I'm so glad it arrived and I think you'll enjoy it, right up your alley (so to speak).
got it Rose and thanks--I will do a little studding on this
thanx dearest, was such a lovely surprise.
Morning Ruby!
Last night, I finallygot Burt to Watch the Marigold Hotel movie (I've watched it 4 times so know the dialogue by heart and still enjoy it), and he was delighted. So, thank you again,Rosie!
*prepares to help pugs to put eyeballs back where they belong*
{{little pugs}] how are you?
oh, yay, ruby. so glad burt enjoyed it too
At first, he said "Who wants to see a movie about old people like usd?" but then he loved it
Have you seen the movie, pugs (ofcourse, you're just a kid, compared to me)?
well maggie smith and judi dench together were amazing.
Iam feeling better now--I did wake with a headache but its dwindling away now/ and you?
No Ruby I havent
aha, another DVD to send to pugs....
He loves Bill Nighy but had to say "Judi Dench has become quite a load!" He is vain about being thin bbut used to weigh 196!!!!
tomorrow is Gradyn's 8th birthday
He tries very hard to be nice, but the"nice veneer" is very thin and wears off quickly
Happy Birthday to Gradyn!!!!
Sorry just got skyped by a friend in London. Hi Ruby :)
{{lizlin}}
are you talking about Burt Ruby or the man in the movie
I'm not so keen on Skype once I saw my picture in the corner
ruby, sweetie, give thanx for the little bits of niceness. write them do4, so you can look back and read when himself is being particularly obnoxious.
Happy birthday to Gradyn
Sounds like things have been tough Ruby.
thanks Liz
It's Burt's nice veneer which peels off. I don't know if Bill Nighy is nice or not but he has the best body language of any actor
pugs, are you doing anything special for gradyn?
agree with you ruby, re bill nighy
His dad is having a small party for him
I agree too!
Burt's 88th b-day is at the end of Sept and I invited his daughter, offered to pay for her ticket without telling him so that it would be her idea, but she's too busy to come
That's pretty sad :(
:( ruby. hopefully she will at least phone?
Has anybody seen Love,Actually or the movie about the offshore rock and roll radio station?
yup. both
Not me.
Rose how is Braxton doing? You havent talked about him for awhile
not me either
She'll certainly send a card, but this could easily be his lST B-DAY IF HE EITHER FALLS OR GETS PNEUMONIA THIS WINTER
whoops, sorry about the caps
I didn't like to keep asking.
last*
There was also a BBCseries where he was the editor of a newspaper -- Kelly MacDonald was in it
braxton, is doing very well. they have been able to relax the 3 hour feeding schedule. he had a scan this week of the bleeding adrenal gland. haven't heard the result yet. he is putting on weight, hand over fist..
Sounds good
or haunch over haunch! lol
Hope the scan results are good.
that all sounds good Rose
brb, potty break
ooh, just found a 7 with 3 d's
Hugs Ruby! I hope things work out that Burt has a wonderful birthday even if she dosent come
WTG!
That was my first 7 too - actually my only one!
Oo ooh! Pt words! Duh!

I'm glad you found it! Could you see my pink house and the dogs in the garden? lol
Bbl - enjoy your days.
bye liz

naked with an American flag?
Hugs to you both -and rose when she comes back :)
pugs did the attachment to my email come through?
see ya liz
yes it did Rose--are you out there too like Ruby so I know just where you are
i hope it helped you to understand just how big australia really is.
it is huge
GoogleEarth is a Wonder!
I wish I had the means to travel outside of the states
pugs, i will send you my address, then you can google earth it, and see where i live...
okay Rose
Rose were your parents from there as well
Ruby your favorite parting word is in the grid--w4/11
that was my last word
we got 3 more days of this heat then a break
JOSO I thought you had ran out on us
yes pugs, but my grandparents are another story. on mother's side, her father was from england, mother from scotland. on dad's side, mother 2nd generation australian, father from belgium. so i am a pretty good mix.
in and out, i know a bit about australia but didn't think I could add much to those who live there
as far as i am aware, no convicts on either side.
lol Rose!
back in a few, dinner ready.
I ask questions(maybe too many) but I like to know things that isnt alway the true picture given on tv
mind, grandmother's father was a paddle-steamer captain on the murray river....by all accounts a bit of a rascal.
enjoy Rose
no problems pug, feel free to ask questions
this will be the only way I get to travel oversea-lol
Have you traveled much JOso
fair amount, Jamaica, greece, turkey, much of canada, florida, northern US, mexico
How nice! And are you a canada native
yes, parents lived in a trailer when i was born, father working on the st. laurence seaway at the time
as a fisherman ? Are your parents still here
no, electrical engeneer, working with ontario Hydro on the lochs project.
My parents died fairly young. Mom just turned 50 and dad in his 6o's
My folks died in the last decade
are you close to your brothers
dad retired to a sailboat in the med, spent many vacations with him, cheap way to see, alot of southern europe
I bet that was fun though. Do you now sail yourself?
know how to, but have no access to a boat now
do you miss sailing
yes, vacations with dad were great, saw knossos, majorca, greek isles
How lucky you were. Many memories to carry within
I do, but is a very expensive hobby, about every other summer I rent a boat for the day and go out on lake ontario
does this lake open into the ocean or sea
brb need more coffee
back
one of the great lakes, the st. laurence river connects them to the atlantic above maine, the seaway project set up locks and cleared shallows so ocean going ships could enter
good for you joso. i bet you have many happy memories. one day himself and i will go to the UK and europe. what with all my babble friends and extended family, i have someone in almost every country to call on.
does this freeze over in the winters
no, major river, some edges freeze, but not all of it.
Isnt that a wonder Rose
gonna take a stick of gelignite to dislodged him, and get him on a plane to the us of a and canada. *sigh* he really does have some strange opinions and ideas.
I hope, to see you when you come
did you enjoy your meal-Rose
& himself
definitely on the books, lots of free time to meet and greet.
I dont know what happen to Ruby--I dont recall her leaving
yeah, pugs. takeaway tonight. bbq chicken and salad, so not too naughty.
do you have alot of seafood Joso being so close to water like that
most of our seafood is trucked in, not much fishing in lake ontario anymore, too many cities bordering it.
they just told on the news a young girl(pre-teen) put rat posion in her parents coffee can. Luckly they didnt die
I love sea food
joso, have you ever read 'alaska' by james mitchener? was an eye-opener for me. didn't realise canada and alaska were so closely linked.
me too
yes i have read it
Rose do you have alot of seafood there?
I read Call of the Wild! and got an A on it in school.
as much as i can get, pugs. also lots of chicken. have deliberately lowered our consumption of red meats, as a health measure.
well, we are the only border they have
fish isnt a red meat is it
not cut out red meat entirely...love my steak and lamb chops too much. and no, pugs, it is a class of it's own.
fish is very good for you, and yummy, but also shrimp, lobster, squid, mussles
joso, didn't realise that the continent was so close to alaska.
beef is so high I dont buy alot of it
i discovered herrings a month ago. yum, yum, yum
I love crablegs!
what continent
oh yes, how could I miss crab
russia?? siberia??? a cold place....
I dont like slimey food
i am so terrible at geography..:(
same here Rose
ah, asia. well it was originally a russian colony
but this is a good place to learn--lol
okay, joso, there. glad you can point me in the right direction. it drives himself nuts...i never know where we are in relation to home.
the map distorts, it the far north and south things are much closer laterally than they appear
you are almost exactly opposite me on the globe
good grief, himself has just told me that the south pole is in the ocean now, and the north pole is no longer diametrically opposite it. i guess we are a tad off balance, then.
THATS why Ive been off balance here lately!
south pole is antarctica, I don't think it has sunk
generally, just which part of canada are you in, joso?
no, joso, the south pole has moved off the continent of antarctica, and is now in the ocean.
Toronto, if you map the opposite point on the globe it is ocean a little south and west of australia
sorry, should say magnetic south pole
, magnetic south pole?
ah, we would have noticed it the earth suddenly tilted 25 degrees
here is a map showing antipodes (global opposites) http://www.peakbagger.com/pbgeog/world\nrev.aspx
thanx joso
gran, pug, yooo hoooo
interesting that most places the antipode is ocean, greenland and antarctica, 1/2 south america and southeast aisa the only major overlaps
darn, by the time i typed in the addy, site was do4.
sorry got red boxed
welcome back pug
still here Rose and Joso
we got dumped too, but we came back
sometimes babble wont let me back in for 30 mins. or more
seems to cut out around this time often
did we lose Rose
looks like
nope, i'm here
*hands joso his glasses*
I think crossy is from canada too
playing the strong silent type
lolol, since when??? joso!
i mean you gran
yes he is, a little north of me in what we call cottage country
i'm silent??? my goodness, that's a first!!
you were keeping mum when pug was poling who had returned
anyway time for bed, goodnight pug, gran
good night Joso--sweet dreams!
joso, hope you have a sweet sleep, mate. see you tomorrow. i will be a tad later than usual. have an education day.
what is that Rose
seminar on anaesthetic emergencies, electrical hazards, and pain management for operating room and post anaesthesia care unit nurses.
is it manatory to attend
pugs, over here in order to maintain our registration, we have to attend 20 hours of education each year.
oh--and do they pay you for that
my hospital does...it gives us an allowance of $1000 each year to help pay for the cost of the courses/seminars.
You have probally heard most of them before havent ya?
does your hospital bring in new nurses and interns alot
pugs, sometimes something new crops up. there are new advances in medicine all the time, which is why we go to these seminars.
is your hospital newish
just nurses, pugs. i work in the private sector. our doctors are fully qualified, and are called visiting medical officers.
my hospital is about 40 years old, so yes, newish. we are currently undergoing major renovations.
I bet since you grew up there you run into old class mates and childhood friends there
Is your hospital one that is focus on just one type of illness? Like just heart related illness
strange you should mention that. there is a nurse in the theatre suite, who not only went to my school, but was also in my "house', berry. then she trained at the same hospital as i did, then we both ended up in the operating suite of this hospital. she is about 5 years older than i.
that is a small wonder. Are you two good friends
no pugs, we are a predominantly surgical hospital, with oneward for general and another entirely orthopaedic. we have an ICU and CCU, and an emergency department. and we also have a medical ward.
sounds like a very large hospital--Is this the only hospital you have worked in
we have recently started cardiac and thoracic surgery in a major way. which makes it very interesting and challenging.
*giggle* no, dear. have lost count of the number of hospitals i have worked in...but i have always been a nurse.
the human body has always amazed me. How God made one teeny tiny vein do so much
one year, i worked for an agency. when a hospital needed a nurse in a hurry, they would call the agency, and they would allocate the job to who ever was available. that year i worked in 37 different hospitals.
oh my! but I bet you learned alot along the way.
good morning Babblers :)
good morning Babblers :)
Man how many hospitals are around you
Hello Nan-how are you
Rose that sounds like a gruelling year must have required a bit of travel time
am doing well pug thanks
hey nanette
pugs, have never counted just ow many hospitals there are in the greater melbourne metropolis area. trust me, there are lots of them.
we have nothing like that here. In the capital there are several. But that gives alot of jobs to your city
I know pug, i live in the largest county in NY and there might be 6 hospitals at the most
are you a nurse too Nan
there are several nursing homes but the are entirely different ]
In the larger towns miles away they have one and a few might have two at the most
nanette, are there many private hospitals over there? we have a lots of public hospitals, too. where patients can be treated at no cost to themselves.
I wish!
Rose, I dont think there are many private ones but for patients to be treated at no cost to themselves is nearly unheard of
medical cost here is awful Rose
hospitals can not refuse treatment for lack of being able to pay but the care would be minimal
and they will take everything you got to get their money--including your home
and there are govenment funded programs such as medacaid that help those who can not afford treatment
so true pug. My husband had an aunt and uncle who had to turn their home over to the county in return for help
the goverment help is only good if you have nothing
yay FIREWORKS
good job Nan
I could carry on forever about medical costs but will say farewell instead of ranting :)
Have a great day/evening ladies
lol know what you mean--take care
but that is appalling. with all the taxes everyone pays, just what does the government do with the money?
who knows Rose--everyone and everything has a hand in it
such a shame! no wonder so many people want to live over here!
what gets me is we have people here in our country with poor care and hunger yet we feed and give medical help to those in other country
not that I have ill feelings to help them but I think they need to focus on their own too
hello, back

it's easy crossy, just work for a large organization and get really frustrated with the incompetence of other departments, then direct your annoyance into word finding.
ahh, i see:)
well, sometimes incompetence, sometimes just, systems set up poorly.
well, corner the boss and tell him your ideas about updating some of the sytems
hi all
howdy,jmc
which is somebody's incompetence but not the person you are immediately dealing with. crossy, my boss can't change anything. some things, she can tell someone but even she often doesn't have the ear of anyone who can/would make real changes.

{{crossy}} the first person I "see"

Hello to all babblers! *happy Friday dance*
How was your evening with the Fiddler/Boatman?
Interesting, better than sitting watching TV, but glad it was free...
The best "history comes to life" performance I've seen is The Lost Colony at the outer banks of North Carolina. It is very well done.
His was great for the fiddling and stories; not sure if he wanted audience participation and kind of a low key crowd. But was an entertaining hour. Might have been great if done in Great Falls as part of a Lewis and Clark tour.
hmmm....need clue for de7/40?
de + **e to an urn + another word for also
*thinking*
not getting the urn clue part
morse c***...

great!
Oh sorry, **e On A Grecian Urn...Keats...and the only reason I remember it is because of a goofy scene in The Music Man.
yes, but i thought if anyone knew about it, they would recognize it without the Grecian part... ;o)
It's kind of weird when you think about it. Who writes an **e to an urn?
poets, i guess...
Yep, I certainly had no knowledge of it...would go with Beetoven **e to Joy...more musical
i should have gone with Morse C***....
<--------------!!FW!!

Oh ye beauteous container of a dead person's ashes!
congrats jill

pt of SN 4/5
I have the sn 4/5
Hello everybody. I'm not sure if the genius of Seamus Heaney reached you all. He died today (RIP). His simple little poem 'Mid Term Break' is well worth a read, as are all his other poems.
Hello soodle, will google him, the name rings a bell
Prepare to be spine-tingled, Jilly.
Ah yes!! The Digger, that's what I knew " The cold smell of potato mould, the squelch and slap Of soggy peat, the curt cuts of an edge Through living roots awaken in my head. But I’ve no spade to follow men like them. Between my finger and my thumb The squat pen rests. I’ll dig with it.
What a loss....

While redecorating a church, three nuns become extremely hot and sweaty in their habits, so Mother Superior says, "Let's take our clothes off, and work naked." The other two nuns disapprove, and ask, "What if someone sees us?" But the Mother Superior says, "Don't worry, no one will see us, we'll just lock the door." So the other nuns agree, strip down and return to work. Suddenly, they hear a knock at the door, and grab their clothes in a panic. Mother Superior runs to the door and calls through, "Who is it?" "Blind man," a man's voice comes back. So she opens the door, and lets in the blind man, who turns to the nuns and says, "Great tits, ladies, now where do you want these blinds?"

Sorry I toddled off for a bit. Things are getting problematic for my m-i-l. Most of you know her dementia, but now she wandered off and the apartment place says she is too moblie to be in assisted living with her wandering; that she has to be in a locked memory care ward. My poor dear sis in law is really beside herself. So am heading out for now....
So sorry Jilly. Locking her in is for her protection. It's not a prison.
Oh Jilly, that is such a worry. And for those who love her, its such a difficult place to be . ((((((Hugs)))))
I had similar issues with my Dad. It's a very sad place to be with a parent.
I am not sure I agree with them. Pattern not consistent, we are needing to get her MD to help figure this out...she really isn't at a locked ward need...and that is from me who worked in geriatrics for 15 years.
My Dad is displaying symptoms of dementia. Its unspeakably terrifying for him. During his lucid times ( about 80% of the time) he realises that his wits are desserting him. Its pitiful to watch.
She should have been in an assisted living for awhile. Sis has been working on that for a few weeks, this just came out of left field. But sis also in a bit of denial as well, she is not doing well with being the parent.
I think it's a multi-faceted issue, some dementia but something else exacerbating it.
Once they start wandering, assisted living does not want to be responsible for what happens.
I watched a documentary about Alzheimers a while ago. A sufferer described it as a thief who came along & stole tons of words out of their head. What a shitty disease.
One thing they kept bringing up was she walks outside to go back to her apartment rather than staying in building. But her previous place that was what she had to do.
Jeepers. My heart goes out to her & her carers, Jilly. It's just not wasy.
It is a shitty disease. And it is heart breaking to watch a loved one go through it. Nancy Reagan called it "the long goodbye".
I wish sis had more diligently pursued the medical exam part, they did labs a month ago and she needs an MRI. Of course, sis and hubby do work as well. It is just plainly crappy. And her doc in Butte was not listening 2 years ago when my hubby and sis tried to get him to look at dementia
Why an MRI?
There have been a few radically confused moments...mini strokes need to be ruled out as well as plaques in brain versus atrophy from age. She needs a DAMN DIAGNOSIS!!
So you don't think it's Alzheimer's?
Well, since my hubby has been diagnosed, we certainly feel it is, as does my sis's hubby, but I seem to be ignored...as does rational deduction since her son and several family members have it. Its just these sudden periods.
Nothing in medicine says two things can't be happening at once.
How old is she, Jilly?
81 and the decline has been horrendesly rapid this past year...
If something else showed up on the MRI, would they treat it any differently? Is she a candidate for surgery at her age?
I'm off to bed now. I will say a special prayer for her. And you, Jilly. I know it's not easy. ((((Hugs))))
Some attributable to two moves in 9 months, but not the whole picture. I felt the first move should have been to assisted living, but my opinion didn't matter. Hubby and I went over last Feb, I counted her pills and she wasn't taking them correctly-sis swears she has been checking. But also the mini-mental exam still showed her competent in Feb.
PRobably not surgery, but there are meds (hubbys' on some) that do arrest progression and may even have some improvement. I've been harping on that since she was moved in April.
It's hard to be the d-in-l, She has been like a mom to me for 33 years...
It's also hard to be long distance from this. Any chance she could be moved closer to you and your husband?
Nancy (sis) had wanted her there. May not have been the best. We by far, have better choices for elder care here.
But is was Nancy's decision. At least she is involved, my other sis-in-law is "too busy with her 4 kids" to even look at our FB family page.
Wait, that is your sister, or sister in law? It's too bad she can't be closer to you, since you have the medical knowledge to be her best advocate.
Nancy is also a nurse...however, mostly in womens' health. And she doesn't think I know what I'm talking about.
Oh great, one of those. And sorry, but other sister in law who is too busy for Facebook is full of it. She's in denial and happy to let other family members deal with the tough stuff. Sad.
pathetic actually
She won't even answer the phone if it's mom. Something like 30+ calls last month...she answered 3
Oh, and example in point, I had voiced early on my concern she would wander but got told she wouldn't..."I know my mom." Nancy forgets it's not really her mom anymore, the personality changes in Alzheimer's are so devastating.
I would have bet my last dollar that my Dad would not wander. Someone who says that does not understand the degenerative properties of the disease.
Tucked up & breaking my own No Internet In Bed rule. Crikey. Life doesn't get any easier, does it?
Dumb rule, made to be broken. : P
We broke the no fried food rule and had fried wild flounder for dinner. I love breaking that one.
