lol, ruru....we put that away last night, now we are playing with thermometers
oh jeezus
thanks joso that was fun
hope you come back again
*looks innocently at ruru* what mate?
Played bridge today online with joso]
* I think I took that one tooooo far *
I will, got to brush up on my bidding though
and he's good - he was apologizing for being rusty - NOT
what bridge site do you play on?
roflol, ruru
"bridge over trouble waters Crayola"
heh
you now the saying, when you're hot.....
Yahoo, advanced 6 usually
hand eval came right back, but you had to notice long pauses as i racked my brain for the right bid
I bet the mercury was rising huh granny
ah but you did come up with the right bid
just call don mr fahrenheit...
I wish I had a good retort to that :D
want to try.....well, i'll be blowed?
I guess if you hold it in your hands the temperature goes up
lol...that is your area of expertise, i believe....
well...I can't argue that
very quick play at yahoo, will be better with a bit of practice. you played the hands vey well, have you read watson's play of the hand flosey?
I am handy to have around :D
*groan* ruru!!
back again -- hi joso -- another bridge nut, I see.
oh, goodie. we recorded the motoGP last weekend. don has put it on.....gosh these kids have nerves of steel.
hi jilli, you too?
flosey and I play at the same club, but I don't play online
Just getting back into it myself
I used to play at gamezone but then microsoft bought it and gradually destroyed the site
I have a copy of that Watson book but haven't looked at it years -- probably should.
great book, I should reread the last half myself, brush up on the more obscoure plays. That book has bailed me out of many a bad contract.
*in years
hubby has a lot of books on bridge, has done a bit of teaching
I think watson nailed hand play entirely, but bidding keeps on developing
that sounds right, joso. Even people who bid other systems play much the same way.
are you and hubby a smooth playing team flosey?
hubby is better than I - we use to play together but he plays with the chap who does the scoring for the duplicate club
he has a better memory than I
those two know what everyone has in their hands and remember everything after the game.
but flosey and her hubbby were a smooth team when they played together -- and they will again when her hubby's current partner takes off for Kauai
my granddad used to love playing vs. couples. said they find it easier to bicker than other partnerships.
joso, did you ever play duplicate bridge?
I don't know if I can still do that, the bidding lead to flosey playing most of the hands, which she did very well
but you pushed me to slam, so you haven't forgotten too much, joso
I did a bit of duplicate, but found most dup players too serious, not fond of playing for blood. like an occasional open chat about the last hand.
wow, 7 NT bid and made is a thrill! Congrats!
it is a more serious game, but it does keep you on your toes
monster hand and flosey opened, ez to do, just had to suck up some guts to follow through with what was right (and remeber how to ask for aces ove nt)
our Sat aft foursome plays Chicago, duplicate style so that we can discuss hands afterwards.
Using Gerber, I asssume. Do you ask for kings by steping up or going 6 C?
I used a jump to 4c
I like que bidding aces but didn't want to assume that system in a pickup game
yes, that's for aces. What do you do to ask for kings?
oh, sorry -- 4c is not Gerber.
or is it -- I'm half asleep, lol!
didn't bother with kings, Had 3 in hand and all aces between us, when to 7 direct after that
nice -- but if you had to ask for kings, how would you do it?
I think of it as blackwood after a nt, but the after nt variant may be gerber
5c
gotcha. Some just go up one suit -- that's what I wanted to know.
I have 24 words left and can't see anything but bridge cards at this point so I'll leave this for tomorrow if I have time or inclination! Goodnight all...*poof
the more complex systems have real advantages but in a pickup game I find it better to rely on the oldies
bye jilli
7 here to go but hubby started, got a few before going to bed
goodnight jilli
very tired, must get to bed, have to bake in the morning and playing bridge (live) in the afternoon
lucky you, live is best, g'nite flosey
would love to play bridge with you again joso
your bids seemed to be right on this afternoon - don't think we messed up on any??
I'll be back.... dun du dunnnn
good
and now goodnight, and to you I presume?
I did, miscounted and failed to open, missed an ace. the 5 club contract
ok, but no problem - happens with the best
oh, getting ahead of self - going to Victoria tomorrow, the other, is Friday
sounds like you are living the good life flosey
it does get busy - hubby is very busy with the Fall Fair, he is one of the Farmers Institute directors
that is next weekend
must go, I'll be on tomorrow morning to pic up the last 7
ok, c u later, enjoy victoria
thanks
& tnx for the games
omg someone shrunk my babble!
Errrr good morning all... :)
lol, sprite, hello sweetie
cold water wash for babble ONLY
{{hugs}}
amen to that, joso! Hi rose, joso, *hugs* Great to see you.
rose, how are you doing? Any bad effects after your work day?
no, hun. found out today my colleague has changed all the drug registers....to a different format. i now have 15 registers to audit. will keep me very busy for a while.
i hate it when someone else messes with my drugs
well, auditing is not the most fun part of your job, but good that you have sitting-down work for now. You totally rock for keeping at it, no matter the peer pressure.
have also started the 'assets' folders for the 6 operating rooms. now that's a nightmare. found some equipment overdue for servicing by almost a year.
argh rose... that is kind of scary!
joso, I couldn't agree more :D
well at least it's still functioning. am gonna address that issue next week.
I somebody in trouble
yeah, the point is, of course, the moment it stops functioning... and the hospital can't say they did everything possible to keep it in working order.
and some of the biomed numbers are so old, that they have been almost cleaned completely off. and that's another kettle of fish...
what is the trouble, joso?
cleaned off = written off?
not here, whomever is in rose's sights
yes, joso, someone is very de4 in the gunky. they are supposed to have a data base which tells them when our equipment needs servicing.
ah, yes indeed, joso. Sorry, bit slow in the uptake.
lol, no sprite. all equipment is cleaned between cases. the chemic als have started to rub the ID off.
ah ok rose! Now I understand. No way to check those equipment then... jeez.
and i have found some equipment which hasn't been safety checked. for goodness sake!! staff are that anxious to get their hands on stuff, they are placing themselves and others in danger. grrr!
you have new stickers or something to renumber them, a faithful old sharpie
sprite, am hoping i can find serial numbers, which are different to biomed numbers.
also scary, rose. You sitting down may have a more positive impact on the department as a hole than you running around!
as a Whole. Jeez. Freudian slip!
am gonna bounce this baby straight to the person who is responsible.
but report it to someone over their head, I hope
now is the time for ruru to pounce
oh, yes. my boss has to be made aware of the deficiency.
oh yeah, he would play on my blunder for sure :D
couldn't agree more, rose. It is human life they are playing with.
You sound like you've built up quite a head of steam rose
leaking from the ears?
sorry, if i seem distracted. watching the final 2 laps of last weekends motoGP
last lap
I find grannies for motoGP an amusing concept
wow!! what a race, 1st, 2nd and 3rd almost joined at the exhaust. whew! good cardiac workout, lol
no odder than seniors for dungeons and dragons I suppose
how is the world treating you Sprite?
now, what we4 you saying joso? about me and motoGP?
It just makes me smile, a bit ridiculous and fun to perceive someone thoroughly enjoying something
btw, caught up with zooz last night/ anyway, the tip i gave him is working, with the felines.
nice back pedal, joso..lolol
joso, are you back into your swim routine?
oh, If i let peoples opinions affect my fun would have given up gaming and comics years ago
yes, found a new pool and schedule, went out today. Was right, all the school pools closed to the public now.
yeah, mate. so totally agree. it was amazing! the year i turned 50 i realised...hey i am half a century old, my opinion does count.
proud of you, mate.did you hear i have to have surgery?
the world? Not sure, joso. Am kind of in hiding. It is a bit muchish.
no, knew it was a possibility but had not heard it was for sure yet
*gentle hugs and butterfly kisses for sprite*
aw thank you rose :)
aww sprite, don't deny the world you, it would be missing a fine thing
yeah, joso, we are going for plan A. open the knee, in the tibial prosthesis there is a plastic insert. he is going to exchange it for a thicker version. no bone pain, just skin pain this time.
it was so odd yesterday. First my daughter breaking down in tears, and deciding to stay with a friend rather than having Tim at home without any solution. Then my husband breaking down in tears because Caya felt she had to leave home to feel ok. And me? God knows. Just picking up the pieces, I guess.
awww joso, what a lovely thing to say!
rose, skin pain is no fun, but wayyyy better than bone pain. Am glad.
ahng in there, sprite, you ARE gonna do this, hun. i have every faith that you can.
so work not to last long, more recovery time and physio?
oh, I agree rose, I can. Only the price is gonna be high, I am afraid. I keep myself going because I need to help my husband and daughter, and because I am the one who has to do all the telephone calls and talks. Not sure what will happen once this is over.
and, hey, sprite, amd gonna go with extra magnesium malate post-op, instead of cortisone(prednisolone)
oh wowwww rose! That is wonderful!
I DO have less pain, rose, thanks to the mag. malate. It is official now.
It's surprising how much surgery takes out of you
lol joso, great one-liner.
sweetheart, you will fall gracefully into a heap, in the loving arms of all who love you. either physically or figuratively.
*pleased sigh* and * ear-to-ear cheesy grin* wow!!! have you told your doctor yet?
I hope so, rose. I feel so isolated. Did I tell you Tim came home yesterday, as planned? All angry young man, so hostile. All triggers for my ptsd are active now.
not yet, haven't seen doc yet. But will do so! The combination of glucosamine/chondroitine and magnesium malate works wonders on my ability to move with less pain.
darn, sprite. praying for tim's heart and mind to be open to the idea he has to grow up, now.
Sounds grimm sprite, but you seem to be doing the right stuff, plodding along, taking the right steps. Probably a long haul, but you will get there.
thanks so much for being there for me. You don't know how much it matters right now... it makes all the difference.
*hugs joso and rose*
Fells feeble at this end, but glad it helps
it sure helps, joso.
joso, you, feeble? never!! your understanding, and well timed humour are wonderful, and very much appreciated.
<--- what rose said
He sure seem angry at something. I will be interesting to see if counseling reveals what. Hopefully something that can be addressed. And if he can learn to deal with anger some other way. At the moment he is starting to look like a wife beater in the making, your actions now have a good chance to ward of even more serious problems.
*sigh* just realised i don't get a late morning start until next monday. tomorrow, up for day out with a friend, saturday up for usual washing, ironing, cleaning, sunday up for church....all good but have been spoilt by being able to have more than one lie-in per week.
what do you know, words do have effects, ego swells
my thoughts exactly. I am truly worried about his conception of physical violence as a reasonable reaction.
*giggles* Rose wants to be a lady of leasure :)
can i just say here, that i totally blame the film industry for this attitude in our young? for years they have pushed violence and a complete disregard for others.
whats wrong with that, I hope to become a man of leisure
nothing wrong with that, joso :)
don't know how but still have the hope
rose, I think that certainly has impact. But also the attitude that they deserve to have all they want, when they want it. Makes me sick at heart to see it.
yeah, joso...so totally with you, mate. the way i figure it, after 43 years off paying taxes to my country, it's time for my country to support me.
hope is essential, joso
sounds more than fair to me, rose
as we speak of children feeling entitled, lol
sprite, and as they become older, they think they can have what their parents have, after a life time of working hard, without working for it.
exactly, rose.
yeah but we earned our right to a bit of leasure... our children haven't earned squat yet.
Not a new concept. Dad often told me I never worked a day in my life.
I agree, in the bad old days many kids were treated for too badly in the home, I think society has over compensated
hello, o-o. so we are not alone with that concept, then?
hi BabbleRabble, that is true. But I think your father could have told you much nicer things... you are working very hard every day of your life.
BR, really like your account on wool-gathering. very interesting.
was just about to say the same thing. Just read it, very interesting.
ditto
owww!! arthritis in left foot very painful. the weather has changed today, and my foot is telling me it doesn't like it...lol, get a life, foot.
aw poor foot. Very painful indeed.
this Icon profile thing is kind of weird, meet someone and immediately lift their skirts to see beneath
hehehe, but you get to decide whether you want to lift them to your ankles, or to your knees, or all the way up. Of course, seeing you in skirts would be revealing without any lifting.
hey the scots wear skirts....and quite well too.
true. I didn't say I didn't like it... just that it is revealing :)
ok, or drop their trousers, humm hearty drawers
awww so sweet, those hearty drawers.
*giggle* yeah sprite. and what does a scotsman wear under his kilt???
my favorite word, rose ;)
lolol, joso, we call them granny drawers....don't own a pair myself, despite my mother's attempt to get me to wear them...
scotsmen wear granny drawers, learn something every day
and did i ev4 tell you about the time i was 7 months pregnant(read 10 months, as i pop out early and extremely well), and she tried to get me to wear a pair of french knickers? my hubby was thrilled....my tummy made the knickers legs wide open.....
no fumbling needed...lololol.
lolol rose
Can't properly envision, you got photos?
ROFLOL joso....NO!!~!!
trying very hard to envision
roflol
she probably does, just too stingy to share
joso, perhaps you don't know what french knickers look like? well google it, mate
too stringy maybe
It's the preggy distortion that i need help with
lol, well you're on your own, joso.
she is lying, joso, I found her: http://tinyurl.com/l9mnr7b
I google ' rose french knickers pregnant' and I got loads of hits
you have some wonderful ideas as to what google is for rose
Babble is a unique place, I have never had ladies guide me to porn before
*grin*
lololol....you two are amazing....and so is google.
I wouldn't classify that picture of rose as porn. It is tasteful, artistic and romantic. Beautiful belly, rose!
wish it was mine...;(
must be. Googled it with your name ;)
forever yours in my mind now rose
now double the belly....and you are getting close.
same here, rose. I was so big around I couldn't get my arms around it. They thought both times I might be hiding a twin somewhere. And everything at the front... no telling I was pregnant from behind.
i used to 'pop' out by 8 weeks. at 12 weeks i looked 16 weeks. i had very big babies.
but on entering a room, it was belly entered... all waiting... then me.
roflol, sprite. exactly...
so sprite, went to flosey's bridge site and played a half dozen hands, bid and made a grand slam
my first was the weight of a house brick...9lb...and it felt like a house brick, too
wow joso, great! Just read in your bio that you play too. I never learned this game.
lolol, what? no pregnancy stories to share?
mine were both 9 pounders as well. Yeah, hard work to get them out.
ok, I was 11lb, 4 oz, started out buy nearly killing my mom
argh joso, that is huge!
must look up lb
so i have heard
joso, which number bub we4 you?
ah ok... rose, mine were about 10lb
????
sprite, 1 kg is 2.2lb
joso, where amongst your siblings we4 you?
ah, number one son
yes I found it, one lb is about 1,1 kg.
ooooohhhh, poor mom... how many after you?
other way around. One lb is about 1,1 dutch pond
oh, sprite, didn't realise the dutch measurements we4 different to ours....
5.102 kgs
it is so easy to say a pound is a pond, but it is not the case, lol.
10.2 pond
anyway, after 3 days labor decided on cesarean
oh you might enjoy this too. I came across the phase 'hell bent for leather' and wondered where it came from. Check out this site: http://tinyurl.com/lsdjtjn
3 days of labour? Omg, poor woman! I did 2 and I was deadbeat.
i didn't last more than a few hours, before screaming like a fish-wife. was induced after some gentle cramps, to full-blown 2nd stage...was quite happy to cruise, but my OB had other ideas.
regular doc was fishing for the weekend, the weekend guy was afraid to try cesarean, when regular doc returned took us to op room right away
no way a woman can deliver naturally after 3 days of labour. Just too darn tired.
and where is the lovely puglet?.....
I ah, wouldn't know.
hey, joso, lovely to see you...lolol
Here! Running late
ah ha
hiya pug! *hug*
{{hugs}} hello pugs, dear
sleep in?
morning dear friends--hugs back
my son started out hardheaded... literally. His skull parts were already partly fused.
for me yes
apparently my folks watched me very carefully for the first few years, were told there was every chance I would grow up bobo
hope you don't have a headache pug
bobo?
yo, sprite, ouch. my first had to have his skull collapsed, and his fontaneele we4 folded over on each other. OB thought he had brain-damaged him. nothing further from the truth.
mentally deficient or damaged
*fontanelle*
ah ok, joso. well, thank God you weren't.
its just a dull one--but I've been up and down for whatever reason
guess we should have known he would be a hardheaded teenager as well
*giggle* yeah sprite.
*hugs pug* Glad to see you though, hun.
how is everyone
pugs, how is your fe5?
who knows, maybe i missed out on being a supergenius.... or could have spelled
been better. But hanging in there.
pugs, i did email you.
great right now
sprite does your country not have z-codes?
oh okay Rose--
z-codes?
joso...always a genius in my eyes...anyone who can play bridge is a genius.
zip codes
we have post codes. The format for dutch mail is: name street + number postcode + city country
oh, am a genius, technically. just not a supergenius
if you write it down exactly as I did in the email, it will find me.
supergeniuses are almost always unhappy. I think genius is good enough.
okay --I didnt know that
would you want to be, joso? my stepson is....and quite insular because of it.
I get by ;)
yeah well, it is interesting, all the different address formats in the world. I do postcrossing and it is really fascinating.
brave joso, so brave
my point exactly, rose
lol
lol, postcrossing better than cross dressing.
I dont think Ive ever mailed outside the states to tell the truth
joined mensa a couple of times, bunch of crashing bores
roflol rose. Indeed. Do you know postcrossing Very nice: http://www.postcrossing.com/
yeah, joso. totally agree. hubby nearly fainted when he found out my mensa score was 30 points above his 'gifted' son.
I got cobwebbs across my eyes-lol
another lovely Canadian who played here always said she was a member of Densa which would always give us a laugh (she so wasn't!)
Evening all
and helloooo lyn
hi lynx
morning Lyn
hiya lyn :) xxx Lovely to see you. I hope you have been well?
where you been, hun?
Lori, I believe, lyn? Happened to see her in chat recently
Very well - just doing Spring cleaning stuff around the house - well actually outside the house - been lovely weather (until today)
Yes Sprite - nice to know she is still around
yeah, lyn...who ordered the rain....
fireflies
Congrats Sprite!
WTG SPRITE!!!!!
w2g Sprite and I bet Rose and Joso too
lyn, wanna come up here? not too mobile at the moment. :(
whats happening with you Rose - enforced rest again?
congrats sprite
I am going to leave you guys... stuff to do... must wash dishes that son didn't do yesterday... walk the dog (ditto)... ride my hometrainer. *hugs* to you all and thanks for being there for me.
Sprite how did it go with the return of Tim
bye Sprite...have a good day XX
hey rose, is your surgery scheduled yet?
bye Sprite. sounds like a fun filled day there-lol hugs back
not great, pug. He was very hostile. My adult part makes me stay here, but my inner ptsd child wants to run and never come back.
g'bye sprite, have a good one
ahh Sprite, so sorry
tomorrow meeting with school counsellor, pug. We are getting help, things will work out in the end.
no joso, surgeon's receptionist only sent of request yesterday....
Sorry to read Sprite, hang in there
yes, when it storms you can bet the sun will come out again
lyn....just not allowed too much upright activity.
xoxox, sprite.
You are in my prayers Sprite
upright aka not allowed on feet? are you working Rose?
seated duties only, lyn...and have discovered lots to do
yeah at playing doctor there at home-lol
pugs!!! naughty girl~!!! (oh, yeah)
I was watching big brothers last night and they had a contest having to wear tutu and guess who that brought into mind?==lol
pug, you were the one touting new uses for french knickers rose
Iam not admitting to anything
oh not you pug, rose, sprite, and I. rose started a line of conversation that ended with them guiding into some of the better uses for google. i did egg them on a tad
how did all your running about yesterday work out pug
A TAD??? you led the charge, joso!!~
tiring Joso as alway!
Shhhhhhhhhhh, TRYING to be descrete here
omg, pugs...that is so ...(what is the word????)
Rose read your mail! Everything good but you poor dear how exciting at work(not) lol---is this payback or what
oh, yeah, discreet....thanx joso.
np
anytime
*giggle* to both of you....
as I recall you lead the charge, all I did was ask for a little..... verification
roflo....poor joso, he's having trouble with his memory, pugs. please be gentle with him....
Iam stumped on what this is all about--will have to go back into chat later..sorry
that will tell all.
s'okay, pugs, not sure that will enlighten you much.
is that the short term memory or the long term?
so what is planned for you today pug?
oh, now she gets shy
poor, pugs, caught between the devil and a hard place..lol
well got to go back to town to get plumbing parts is the #1 thing then cleaning I suppose
joso is the devil...i'm the hard place...or is it vice versa?
yuck, not a very nice shape for your day, hun. hope it improves, pugs.
now you want to talk about hard places and soft too I suppose
leaving that one well alone, joso
whats up with the plumbing
nothing wrong with mine.....
getting smarter as time goes on rose, pity
since your memory is going----do you remember last week about the bathroom problem? well------------
*giggle* joso
no, I remember water supply problem, but thought that was licked
went to change the guts in the tank of the pot and found out the bolts that holds the tank on were rotted into
oh yeh, and crossy said you just do this that and the other, np
so now I got to run into town to get replacements
YOU did remember!!!! yeah!!
the memory shecome shegoes,
giggles--you're funny Joso
i think rose would just rather I forget, never going to happen
lolol, gee thanx joso.
she says she is not going to touch that, then makes plumbing sound naughty. I think rose has much repressed beneath the surface, and not all that deeply repressed at that.
anyway must be pressing on, enjoy your days pug and rose, & lynx if she lurks. is worth going back to read pug, I think you would get a giggle or 10
Iam not getting into someone else's plumbing--got enough problem with my own
enjoy yourself Jose and will do--good night
as you prefer, but really just some harmless fun.
pugs, xoxox, hope you have a great day
joso, have enjoyed jousting with you. dinner ready. see you tomorrow, all of you
as you too Rose--hugs

hello scrabs. There was a program with many rabbits and I thought of you. I would love to have a couple of rabbits, but dn't know what my dogs would do. They go after birds and mice much like cats.....
Then bunnies would be lunch for your pups, so don't get bunnies, unless you can keep them safe.
I got the pr7, thanks
hahah
I've never had a dog before, who went after "game"
pr7 = before the jump into the pool
16 left and I must get ready for work.
that pr7 is a strange word
but tks
I had two pit/boxer mix that I let run with my lose rabbits but it takes alot of time to train the dogs to be kind to them

The puppy, Raffie, catches wounded birds (from crashing into the Windows) and plays with them until they die

well Ruby email me your address and I will send a card as a secret admirer--lol
lol, pugs, you are too sweety!
or even sweet
if it will help a friend then why not
might take his mind off of things a few minutes
and, who knows, it might cher him up. Yesterday, he said it was the worst day e ever had because he lost his glasses

It is all very sad

He was the smartest man I've ever known, but not any more LOL
You need to remember him as he was so you dont turn bitter towards him(though I know its hard) but he cant help it any more then you can

Good Morning! TY for your good vibes last night...we slept through the night!!!!
morning, car
Hi Dawg!
tadone!! finito!! fun grid.
Congrats Dawg!
Car, what's wrong with your boy?
He has been having anxiety attacks and a lot of trouble sleeping.
But we found a children's melatonin/chamomile supplement and he took it and slept peacefully for 11 hours!!!!
Good. I hate hearing about kids dealing with anxiety. It's supposed to be a fun time of life.
I know. I was the same way as a kid and I HATE to see him go through it.
I want to teach him NOW how to calm himself and his brain down and get a handle on it. I spent 20+ years with insomnia and I want so much better for him.
As someone once said to me...either you own your thoughts or they own you.
Exactly. But when you get in the cycle and are so over tired, the brain just seems to go to dark places.
Bus time! BRB!!!
Therapy is something to consider. Kids are so much more open to it than adults.
I would love him to go.
Hello, everyone! Car, I just wanted to tell you that the melatonin works well but don't give it to him every night because, at least in my case, my body got used to it and it didn't work as well after a time. Try giving it to him every 2-3 nights instead if you can so it will be effective longer. The more his body gets used too falling asleep at a certain time and staying asleep, the easier it should be for that to happen naturally.
Hi Mimi! Exactly! I am with you on that.
I've been an insomniac most of my life as well...just have a tough time shutting my brain down. Now I find that if I leave the TV on I will fall asleep during a show more easily...especially if it's something I REALLY want to watch!
I think it's also important, car, for him to not get too used to taking something automatically. Kind of sets up a predisposition you don't want him to have. ..but I'm sure you've already thought of that.
Wow, this is one nasty little grid!
good morning everyone;)) have 15 whole minutes to myself and then must head out for classes
{{crossy}} Classes? What are you up to now?
back to school, mimi:)) advanced computer tech, catching up on some math and lots of english lit
after 33 years,it is a bit of a shock
Good for you! I loved going back to school 2 years ago. Appreciated every about it so much more than when I was younger...and actually learned more easily since logic seems to develop more as we mature.
i have a one year pause in my like and decided to fill it with something useful
life
School is always a good idea. I'm still planning to continue once things settle a bit for me.
i tremble at the tought of the calculus and trig in second semester however, but am havig great fun with computer tech in this semester
Phantom: pervert. (No reflection on current chat participants!)
I was dreading the algebra myself but had to stop before I took it...it's still out there on the agenda one day, though.
I took classes online though University of Phoenix and was amazed at how challenging and interesting the classes were. The profs were very good and it's great being in "class" and speaking with people from all over.
They also have a fabulous online library where you can find anything...saves trips to the library and you can copy and paste things easily.
i love the new way the do classes.in the old days ,you have 4-8 subjects all crammed in 35-45 chunks throughout the day,now they spend all day, every day on one subject for just over a month or so,then they move on to next subject
Toronto U is all online and digital texts
Clue please for EN 7?
I think that method improves understanding due to the continuity. Online you can tailor your program to your schedule.
but i go to a sattelite facillity near my home, saves 3 hours drives south to the cities
Just shows we still have a lot to offer the world, right crossy?
indeed,mimi
I'm still in touch via email with the first prof I had 2 years ago...she was terrific. She really valued my participation in class and that enhanced my esteem and my experience.
en7...en + 102° temperature means you have a....

I dove de4/6 into this puzzle at flip. Then I pe 7/36 out after finding most of the words. I'm saving my last word so here is a story of clues for you to pr6/33. I have been an en 6/27 and en6/30 those that can finish these grids listless.I do not think I will ev4/7 be able to finish a grid listless. My fe4/7, whose name is Pe 5/12, is being a tw 5/20 and has a fe 6/39 desire to use the computer. He has vi 4/8 to take laptop away from me. If I do not give him computer,he will get te4/5 off and I fr4/7 what he will do. I am going to go get up on my fe4/7 and go eat something & drink some liqu4/8s.Then I am going to go watch the Mel Gibson movie "We We 4/8 Soldiers". Now that you have pr7/52 this story, I hope that you have fe 5/24 words now to find. When I am fr4/7 to use laptop, I will come back to Babbleland to clue until I di 4/8 into the next grid at fliptime. Bye for now. I'll be back later.
Does anybody want to come play Letterblox with me now?
Sorry Min, this is the only word game I have time for.
Same for me minv...sorry
Thanks for the story Min! Found several I didn't have
I just kicked someone else's butt in Letterblox. That is the only word game that does not make me feel inept. Kind of like Wheel of Fortune is the only game show that I watch.

Hello harpjane! How are you doing today? Welcome to grid
I am fine minver, just stopping in for a sec.
Hi there harp!
Well, must toddle off and be productive. Have a great day everyone!
Goodbye Jillyjill! I should do the same thing, but I think I'll procrastinate just a little bit longer.I'm still in my pajamas.
LOL...me too but *poof*
No school here today because it's Rosh Hashanah.
when I taught school inBinghamton, they made Jewish teachers use sick days for the High Holidays. I made the change that!
them*
they had a useless teachers' union
Hi Ruby. I live in a predominantly Jewish county so they close the schools for the Jewish holidays and are in session for Veteran"s Day and Columbus Day.
growing up in NY, they closed schools for Good Friday, Columbus Day )there was a big parade) and for Brooklyn-Queens Day (had another name which I don't remember, also A BIG PARADE)
Not for Jewish holidays
(no parades)
School in NYC is not opening til Monday because of the Jewish holiday. What parents who work are going to do, I don't know
There has been a lot of controversy here over closing schools for religious holidays, but so far, it still goes.
and then there was the "Park Fete" where selecteed 5th graders went to Queens Country park and danced around maypoles
Even in CT, where there are far fewer Jews, some schools close. At least Yom Kippur is on a weekend
Bich, my son works at a day care and they are open when the schools are closed.
I remember Park Fete ruby. We probably were there together
You are the only person |'ve ever met who knew about that! I am smiling ear-to-ear. My mother used to make me a frilly skirt for the occasion
My grandson [4 y.o] goes to a Jewish pre-school/day care. They live in the Bay Area. They are closed for two days this week, plus two more days later on this month for more minor holidays
*Imagining Ruby and Bich in skirts with pinafores underneath, dancing around the Maypole*
I have such great memories of them ruby. We used to practice those dances and mayflower things forever
You better believe it young lady
There are no Jews in this village and we cannot be buried in the local cemetery
I still have photos of it
Can you scan them and send them to me ruby? I'd love to see that again.
(I'll meet bichon inthe PB for our own fe**) lol
Actually we should be going to the PB for fe/4
Um, Ruby...so what is the plan? Burial at sea?
I've just gotten a scanner, but don't know hsow to use it
It's easy ruby, I have one.
husb and will be cremated and I'll put his ashes in the garden with the dogs. I don't know what will be done with me.....
I'm getting tossed in the sea :D
easy for you, I can't even find the fi4!
my last words will be eat me
Oh Ruby : ( there should be a plan in place. If you are still on the outs with your son, maybe let your step-daughter know what your wishes are.
thank you for making me laugh, ruru
Good Morning Everyone. How are you all on this fine September day?
Actually, I am happy to say that things are better with my boy (boy?)
(And could someone please give stats or clue for that bottom right corner "O" please?

hello nef
Oh...you REALLY want to be chum. I get it.
:D
I spent a lot of years avoiding great whites.. thought I'd give in at the end
I want to go out on a burning barge, like the Pagans did.
when my neighbor had his 60th birthday party his wife arranged for two little planes to make smoke in the shape of a heart over the lake
will you have an A on your forehead?
thanks, ru
welcome nef
on the barge I mean :D
reminds me of a cute joke
and nef is in the grid
a woman is tied to a stake in a village and there's a large crowd gathered round picking up stones to stone her to death..
all of the sudden the clouds part and a bright beam of light comes down and the crowd parts and jesus walked among them.. and said "Hold.. let the person who has never sinned to cast the first stone"
this is a joke?
all of the sudden the crowd bows their head and starts dropping rocks one by one
then from the back a huge rock comes over the crowd and hits the woman on the head and kills her immediately
Jesus just dropped his head and said...
"You know Mom.. sometimes you just piss me off"
hahahah
No A, I have been much naughtier than Hester Prynne.
Did you see that movie starring Demi MMoore
No, Demi Moore movies make me upchuck.
This was the worst of them but we have slim pickins here
Every now and then, something good is on but it has to be in "Version originale" and have Fr subtitles for my husband
good night everybody
Version originale...ooo, I bet that sounds smooth with a French accent. : )
good afternoon.

I'm tempted to say f**** me, but that may be considered offensive! Thank you Molly. :-)
Every joint in this aged decrepid body of mine is aching. I, foolishly, decided that my kitchen needed a makeover, so I began painting it today. Now I'm beyond the point of no return, and I ache.
My kitchen is 20ft x 15ft!
Ouch .. Take a break, Soodle
Thank you Tor. I'm at the stage noe, where I'm wondering how mich a professional will charge me to come & take over! :-/
Much...
Calls a bit of BS on the aching thing. Could be because of last night's birthday hoopla.
I was remarkably well this morning, Molly. Hence the 'Gung Ho I'm gonna sort this kitchen out' attitude. Bitterly regretting it now.
Wait until you hook up with the rest of the "empty nest syndrome". Must be all domestic due to lack of kids around. Crazy stuff.
I don't think this project is related to empty nest syndrome. Its been 3 years since the kitchen saw a coat of paint. And during the cold months, theres a fire lit every day, together with all the cooking damage. (I like my food well done!). Its a job long overdue.
*Thinking of exotic, post lottery jackpot winning kitchen*
PLUS. I got unexpected money as birthday gifts, & invested the lot in paint, rollers, white spirit & all painting paraphernalia. I'm committed!
:O : O Unexpected birthday money went to painting chores??? : O : O
Hey! I'm middle aged! Get over it!
*Has a teary moment over such a sad, sad thing*
Ah! Don't worry Molls. This 'age awareness' thing hits me in or around my birthday. I usually get over it in a week or two. I see the Mullingar commodity is in the grid!
Don't worry...age awareness...spending birthday treat money on drudgery...sure.
Pass me my false teeth fixative & my laxative medicine.
Nothing like a new coat of paint to brighten the dwelling, Soodle.
can anyone hint the fi please?
Molly just clued it, Lindy. Fi plus high scoring tile & vowel

Wow. Your football season is just starting? Ours is just heading towards the end. The All Ireland Hurling Final's on Sunday, between Clare & Cork, & 2 weeks later the football final between Dublin & Mayo. My money's on Cork & Dublin!
I only hurl on weekends now ...
but I'll bumbleshoot any time
Our football is a bit more aggressive than the hurlie stuff.
Google it, Ruru. Its an incredible game. Of course, I'll be up a ladder getting shlappered in paint as the lads battle it out.....
Better things to get shlappered in
How did your friends get on here on their holidays, Ruru?
Oh! For goodness sake. The bloomin' black dog is now a bloomin' black & magnolia dog. And theres dog hairs on my paintwork. I'm going to bed, in high dudgeon. Nite all
Hmm, why do dogs get to be around when painting is in progress? More will be revealed. Good night Soodle.

Thank you, joso.
Hello Nef! How are you doing today? Welcome to the chog.
hey nef, how's life
See y'all at the flip.
I'm procrastinating tonight Min. I'm supposed to be finishing up some "diaper cakes" that our auxilliary are making for the silent auction for the church festival this weekend.
(For those who don't know, a diaper cake is something for a baby shower or the new parents that is primarily made of diapers. I'm making 3 of them: the girl diaper cake is two-tieres and looks like a frilly cake; the boy diaper cake is a tractor; and the neutral cake is made up so it looks like a teddy bear (it's a 4 piece baby sleeper set with a baby hat with a bear face on it for the head of the bear)
how can you resist such fun nef
Well, my one tractor tire keeps falling apart (it's made of 24 size 1 diapers and has 2 rubber bands holding it together); so I'm taking a break (because the rubber bands keep breaking on me!)
Actually, it is kind of fun, joss; and it works much better when the 4 year old grandson isn't "helping" me (by shooting rubber bands around the room, etc.)
my break would have been around about the time they were asking for volunteers, more power to you nef
sorry, joso, spellcheck didn't like your name 1st time around
np
I volunteered for the job, joso, it isn't that tough except my little helper got out of hand
Nef, he was having trouble breathing so they gave him some breathing treatments and watched him closely overnight.
and my imagination is getting a bit fatigued
sorry for the delay answering.
phan, how old is he?
actually sounds like a lot of fun with the little nipper running about, a polaroid moment
LOL, joso, the person would have to stand still for a polaroid moment! :-D
just over a year old.
somewhere between 12 and 18 mos
Wow, phand. WHat was wrong? He's a little old for what I was thinking....
I don't know exactly, what were you thinking?
bronchiolitis maybe?
bronchiolitis or RSV (but I just checked; and I guess they can get that until they are 2 yrs; I thought it was up to 6-9 months
purtussis had been thrown about last night, but I actually didn't get the diagnosis. I will try to see if I can find out.
pertussis is so scary in babies!
almost anything is scary in babies, especially with young parents! Although, this is their 2nd child. Mom is 25 I believe.
I remember when my grandson was less than a year; his mother doesn't believe in vaccinations and he spiked a fe5/22 and became very lethargic. THey ended up in the ER with him (and I just found out from my son that he's been taking him without the mother's knowledge for vaccinations
Are they still married?
I have a young mom friend that doesn't beleive in vaccines too. I think she got grief from the docs at her kid's last check up.
I told her it will be hard to find a doc with won't give her grief.
they are still married; and they moved in with us about a month ago. Now *I* want to divorce her!
phan - pertussis is another name for Whooping Cough and can be quite serious for babies. There's a cough (obviously) that gets so bad that you have difficulty breathing. I have experience of that because I got it when I was in my early 20s and couldn't believe it when my doctor told me what was wrong with me. It's a notifiable disease in the UK and I had to have 6 weeks off work, no visitors allowed.
oh my, it is tough living with people. Especially when they have philosophical differences of opinion or life styles. I currently have a girl friend living with my husband and I and she is making me crazy.
Hi all, btw. How's the grid going? I can clue if anyone wants.
I'm petrified just thinking about what will happen to these little kids when we have epidemics of measles, mumps, pertussis, and polio again
hey all -- Phand, I was wondering about Cade earlier.
Yes, I know pertuss = whooping cough. What I am confused about is that we vaccinate against that, so was wondering why he would have gotten it if he in fact had it.
hi Jacula. phand is a new RN
I had my kids vaccinated -- Matthew's measles didn't "take" so he had another booster as a teen. Grant caught measles from his vaccination... we need to get him titred to be certain it took for him!
Nef, that is a reasonable fear. But you said they are vaccinated as your son took them behind moms back. So, they would be ok right?
or did you mean non vaccinated kids in general?
Vaccinations are NOT 100% effective, which is why we try to vaccinate everyone we can. If 90% are successfully vaccinated, the risk of passing it along if exposed to someone who wasn't is minimized.
Tdap (Tetanus, diptheria, pertussis)
that is true that they aren't 100%...
I was shocked to find that in the UK (where I am) they've stopped giving the TB vaccine. We have so many illegal immigrants who come in from Asia with TB and they (the government) decide to stop the vaccine? After we'd eradicated it from the country they then stop doing it when the threat is real again? Both my kids had the vaccine and when my stepdaughter was of the age to have it I asked why she was not being offered it and was told it was no longer done as TB was no longer a threat. The facts don't bear that statement out. I asked if I could pay for her to have the vaccine privately and was told I could not.
we don't vaccinate against TB here in the states. I got vaccinated against it as a child when I was in Germany.
Hi nef.
I was talking about any unvaccinated kids (and adults) in general. I just found out that my son was vaccinating Ronnie because he'd had fe5/22s up to 102.4 recently and I work prenatal care. I was worried what I might be taking to work or exposing my pregnant gals to if he had something infectious
I never heard of a TB vaccine... interesting that the CDC discourages its use.
although, I no longer have a postive TB skin test as I used to.
That is a serious concern, Nef!
Yes, you sure wouldn't want to risk exposing neonates or pregnant women!
I was vaccinated against TB when I was a very small baby, since my Dad was in a clinic suffering from double pneumonia (both lungs collapsed) at the time and he was in with TB patients. I didn't have to have the vaccine again when my school was doing it for all 12-year-olds, because I was still immune.
stid, we do Mantoux tests here in the states; in Europe and other places they'd give BCG (I think?) vaccines for it. But I don't think the vaccine works against the resistant types of TB that are surfacing now
yes, BCG.
BCG - that's correct.
I had to have a lot of TB tests as a child, my paternal unit was exposed overseas before I was born. But antibiotics worked for him, and I never tested positive. I hated the prick test!
I believe that any immigrants coming into the US has to have the BCG vaccine for TB (along with a ton of other shots)
I've still got the flower scar faintly visible on my inner left arm from the prick test done when I was 12.
Fortunately, that didn't leave a scar, but the smallpox vaccination did! I always hated sleeveless tops when I was younger.
Nef - that's the case for immigrantss coming into the UK, too. Unfortunately, the illegal ones bypass that and everything else.
I have a scar from my BCG
The Mantous test doesn't hurt anymore (it used to --or I remember it did) because we now use such tiny needles (usually 28-30; which are very thin)
Everyone has a scar from their BCG. Mine's quite deep and neat but some are wide and ugly. You can tell a person's age here in UK from the size and shape of their TB jab scar.
and temporary visitors are not required to take tests... nor are people FROM here who have been overseas (usually). A couple of times a year there is a measles alert because our local international airport had someone with measles pass through it.
mine is small.
I think most people my age have the smallpox scar; I remember when I worked as a County Health Nurse in NW Minnesota in the early '70's and we had immunization clinics that if someone could show us the smallpox scar they didn't need to get it again.
Not seeing a TB jab scar at the top of someone's left arm here in UK is almost akin to seeing someone without a navel (bellybutton) to me.
yes, that is quite a large scar. I don't have one, but my mother does.
yep. vaccination scars are pretty impressive sometimes.
happily we don't have anything that scars like that anymore.
stid, those measles outbreaks from international (or national) travellers are the ones that scare me the most. They used to talk about Typhoid Mary; well, the SARS epidemic should have taught people a lesson somewhere along the way
My BCG was given in my right arm. wonder if that is a difference of countries giving it.
The polio jab was administered on a couple of sugarlumps and then a fierce jab into the buttock. I was only a baby but I remember that and it made me afraid of needles for most of my life. I'm sure there is a scar for that jab on my bum but the cellulite has hidden it. lol
okay, down to 12 and stalled -- NBT, NBS and have to be up early again, although going in for the mornings will start to taper off as I get more of a handle on what I am doing.
Ask for clues is you need them, stid.
I hated the taste of the poison on the sugar, jac! I was really little, but the bitterness was memoriable.
my kids got an oral polio vaccine, but I think (not sure) it's not given orally any more. Is that right, Nef?
I am going to go to sleep. I hope you-all will have a good rest of your week. Phand, I am keeping you (for the job) and Cade (for his health) on my list! Waiting for some happier news from you-all soon.
*poof*
I have no memory of the polio vaccine for myself.
Thank you Stid.
We had the oral vaccine for polio, no shots for it when I was young. The worst vaccines I ever had were with the "gun" back in the '70's; I remember getting a booster for something when I was running a clinic and by the end of the day my arm was so sore ans so swollen I nearly couldn't get my sweater off.
yikes, Nef!
WOW, phand; I'm not sure on the polio vaccine right now but will check
In 2000, the U.S. switched to the inactivated polio vaccine (IPV). Using an inactive (dead) form of the virus that cannot cause polio, the IPV is given as a shot in the arm or leg.
That was from the Webmd site
yep, just read that too. :-) (GMTA)
:)
so my kids just missed out on receiving the inactivated polio vaccine.
youngest being born in 95.
No good new to give here, sadly, stid. We had to have our cat put to sleep about 10 days ago and still miss him, and last night I received the news that my ex MIL had fallen in the garden and broken her hip, in fact sheared her tibia (tyhe big thigh bone) in half. The hospital, when she finally got there after 9 hours lying on the floor at home after my exFIL rang her sister to say they would not be able to visit that day and she, naturally, asked why and he told her that her sister had fallen, couldn't put any weight on her leg etc., etc., and she rang my ex-hub (their oldest son) to say something is not right, I think you need to call an ambulance and get over there. He, being a normal person, rang an ambulance first and then drove over. Sometimes, given the fact that my ex-MIL didn't call anyone until 24 hours after exFIL had his coronary, we all wonder if, in fact, each is trying to kill the other! The hospital were going to do a repair op yesterday and then suddenly changed their minds and decided that she will be given a whole new hip today. This is somewhat amazing, if you know the NHS in the UK now, and also somewhat worrying.
Jacula, how old is she?
Wow, Jacula, that is a lot of not good news. Sorry about your kitty and ex mil. Hope she recovers well.
I wouldn't be a bit surprised if she is or becomes delirious after an experience like that!
hi Nef and everybody--taking a quick look!
Nef - 78, but possibly a year or two older because she's always lied about her age.
Hi Round Barn! Are you resting up yet?
Hi RoundBarn, Nice to meet you.
Jac, Whenever someone older has a trauma like that they are at risk for delirium. But it is usually self-limiting and they usually return to their normal mental status within a month or so.
Nef - my exMIL has always moaned about anything and everything and the one time she should have been screaming the house down (she now admits she heard the bone crack when she fell) she didn't say a bloody word.
well, I thik the nail is in the coffin of the Raven's Bronco's game. Think I will head to bed...
RoundBarn, did you get my response to your message?
NM, RoundBarn, I see your answered my earlier email
nef, yes, just now. answered. I'm taking a quick look at Babble but the grid looks like I don't want to stay up for it. Got in from Mlps this afternoon.
I once broke a toe, heard it crack and felt the pain intensely. So, I can only imagine that breaking a bigger bone is a 100 times worse. Can't understand why the stubborn old B didn't say anything to her other half and let him struggle to drag her in from the garden onto the floor and finally into an armchair. He's smaller than her and has heart problems.
phand, who is winning?
Bronco's
17-42!
It's a small (but wicked) grid. I'm down to 10 but probably won't finish (I'm chatting too much again! ;-)
That IS a lop-sided score, phand
If no one needs Babble clues now, I'll be off.
Jac, have you been asleep yet or are you just waking?
Not been aslepp yet, Nef, after that news.
and the Raven's just fumbled!
And I can't spell asleep, lol
oh dear. (((Jac & family))) I'll keep her in my thoughts and prayers. And you too.
except they lucked out, due to a face mask penalty against the Bronco's.
I hope you can get some rest, Jacula.
good night then. I am over and out.
Niters, phand (and Jacula, if you're going to sleep)
She's such a stubborn old whotsit! Drives me mad! Her younger son, who now lives in Canada, is cut from the same cloth, as he proved when my ex-hub rang him earlier and he didn't want to speak to his Mum due to a minor row they had a few months ago. Perhaps it's just that me and my ex know full well all the 'complications' that could come from exMIl leaving it so long, especially since she also has COPD.
'Night all and happy Babbling to the lurkers.
Nef - thanks for the prayers.
Niters Jac!
6 left. Maybe I will finish now!
Fireworks! I just had to shut up for a minute!
And it's bedtime for me too. Good Night All; and Happy Babbling!
I haven't been here forever! Forgot how much fun it is! And I see some familiar names in the chats!
