Hi Rose :)
sorry didn't mean to yell.
very weepy, dee.
*covers eardrums*
That takes awhile to go away.
only slept for about 90 minutes last night, and that was in patches.
Hugs to you, dear Rose.
Loads of hugs, Rose :)
Hope at least you can finally get some rest... makes you even more sensitive, I am sure.
(((rose)))
thanx everyone. had a gruelling day, phoning friends and rels from all over the country.
*backs up truckload of kleenex to Rose's house*
hi stiddy * watery smile*
sorry to hear all that, rose....
All those phone calls - stressful. At least that's over.

WTG DEE!!!
thx, peach... it has been an overwhelmingly busy week, and next week will be worse. We are having an open house here next week for 50 people for a friend's son, who just got married.. have been trying to get ready for that, plus do Christmas cards, plan Thanksgiving, yada yada.
How are you doing pain-wise, rose?
sorry dee, emails pouring in, phone ringing so much to deal with.
have had to postpone surgery for another week. went to doc's today for some more sedatives. i ran out almost a week ago, not sleeping well. i am burning up from synovitis, and knee throbs in the middle of the night.
so very sorry; hope your doc can give you the right meds to hold you over until your surgery
yeah, well between that and the tremors/shakes from FM, am looking for a hole to crawl into and close over the top of me.
keeping you in my prayers... I hope you have someone to vent / share with... your emotions will probably be overwhelming for awhile... sadness, anger...all sorts of "stuff"
don't look now...lol. i just emailed you.
don has been wonderful....standing firm, yet tender, speaking out the words i ne4 to hear.
Just read your email Rose - will reply soon :)
xoxox liz
Same, Rose
Like Rose, get a grip and sit down and get off of that leg? lol And Hello everyone!
Hi pugs
{{hugs}} my pugs. hello dear
Hi Liz, Dee and Rose and hugs back
howdy all
hey jbp
Hi jbp--feeling better
ummmm , get your purell ready.
i'm coughing on everything. but the good news is that this means I only have a day or 2
Rose, cant your brothers take some of the load so that you dont over do it
I swear, if I eat any more citrus and drink any more tea... well, I don't know...
Rose, you are in my thoughts.
so glad for your hubby, rose (((rose)) ((pug))).. I am off til the flip...
pugs, they are. two are handling all the funeral arrangements. two are handling the will and solicitor.
are you beaming like the sun, jbp? lol
night Dee
yeah, a phlegmmy sun. beaming. (snort)
night, dee, hope you sleep well. your sentiments are much appreciated
I just want to announce, that pegleg is not in the grid.
nor is dayglo
thats good Rose--I know this is all hard, but its not going to help if you get overly tired--which will only bring on more pain
you need to rest the body as well as the mind
I found a 8 letter word and its no in the stats :(--go figure
would you like to point us towards it, or are you just taunting us, Pug? ;)
detangle but it dont count
ah, yes, I tried that. I thought it was just me.
nice to know I wasent alone-:)
I always learn such great word here... for example: a metal tag or sheath at the end of a lace used for tying
because that will be so useful... here and in crosswords
I learn new ones here all the time--some I remember for the next time it appears and some I dont(more I dont)lol
the mountain that is the opposite of an opening bet is the one I almost always forget.
would someone love to clue me the bottom row D?
nm
I dont have it
i found it
it's a term for italians
i find 'em after I ask ;-)
well, with nbt, i'm off to go disrupt my husband's sleep with coughing.
is it "wrong" to view it as revenge for his snoring?
lol---night--I would say not
;-)
nite - poof
fw
hey pug, getting lonley
good for you! and Hi Joso
yeah I am-lol
how about you?
how could i be lonely, chatting with you
you just now dropped in
how are doing anyway
you were quick this morning getting your fws
I doing-lol and how about you?
it's an itsy bitsy grid, and I cheat like all get out
how can you cheat at this
I start with lickety if it's available, and use word lists
you got a elf on your shoulder giving you the words
I wish, that would be even better, lol
wouldnt it though!
hi again, can't sleep so will attempt to finish this grid
first a cup of tea
Hi Flosey, hate it you cant sleep but glad to have you back
What I really enjoy is think up good clues, but you need the answers before you can do that
hey flosey
Back for 5 minutes - can see that it's going to be another grid where I just get 5 mins here and there!
Iam hungry...didnt eat dinner nor supper and I think I got a lion inside my guts-lol
well welcome back Liz
Go fix yourself something, pugs.
food is a good thing pug, from time to time
Iam here in a bit---the growling is making my dogs look at me with their heads cocked to the side
No Joso - food is always a good thing!
hey liz, how is life in paradise
Wonderful as ever, Joso except the Brits have been rubbish at the cricket today :(
May have dual nationality but still support England in sport!
oh, and that is something that matters
Well not in a serious way - not for me. But as my hubby supports Aus and really enjoys cricket, it's fun!
Joso are you into any sports
do you play Liz
And when England is doing well against Aus, it's great to play the wicked step-mum!
No, nothing well. But I go to the gym regularly and walk on the beach as often as possible, so I do try to keep fit!
I wonder why canada never got the cricket bug, every other brit colony I can think of did, USA influence I suppose
Do you still get to spend time with horses, pugs?
no pug, bookworm-nerd-geek type, think of big bang cast
No, Liz---I still have saddle and stuff, thinking one day I might get back into it before Iam so old I cant
Much prefer reading to sport! Except I do enjoy tennis - watching more than playing.
half way - BBL
I like watching football and the olympic games
I hope Flosey didnt fall getting her tea
I doubt it, she was ready to take A long walk on a miserable day, I think she is pretty steady on her feet
everybody knows watching the kettle boil makes it take longer
are you going to your brothers for thanksgiving Joso
we already did, do you have big plans?
no, just staying home
the news is saying a winter storm here on thanksgiving so not sure what that will mean
just lots of football
yeah, pigging out in front of the tv :)
is tomorrow your thanksgiving day puglet?
no, next thursday
if you like football it sounds like a good day
ha, thanks
it's not on a weekend?
no its always on a thursday
well, you learn something every day
Is your guys on a week end?
yes
is it a national holiday then, on Thursday?
yes Flosey
then back to work 1 day? then weekend?
most get a four day weekend
anymore so many of the bigger factories dont close at all for any holidays
makes little difference on a farm I bet
ah, that's lovely
ah, that's lovely
ah, that's lovely
ah, that's lovely
ah, that's lovely
ah, that's lovely
ah, that's lovely
ah, that's lovely
ah, that's lovely
ah, that's lovely
ah, that's lovely
ah, that's lovely
ah, that's lovely
ah, that's lovely my messages aren't going through
no it dont Joso
oh dear, sorry
lol--coming through on my end Flosey
lol, somebody wants attention, lol
lol loud and clear
sorry, no idea why that happened
Is Flosey..hogging the chat again?
babble glitch, not your fault
looks that way, but thanks JoSo
thats better than the red boxes
oh yes, they sure stand
out when you get a whole page of them
Don't sweat it
yesterday I was snooping on the ulr site and loved getting about song ever recorded. As a kid I liked Nancy Sinatra and I got her song sugartime and now I cant get rid of it from my head-lol
why are you still up ru, thought you trotted off to bed
I am usually up late flosey...
ah, another night owl
I don't Troy anymore either
Trot...
are you up late or up early? its 3:30 am here
well this night owl is signing off, wish you all well, g'night
don't you just love the silence, stillness,
good night Joso
I do
g'night JoSo, sweet sleep
Nite Jo
Is that a clue for us to shut up Flosey? lol
What are doing up this late pugs?
cant sleep Ru--been up since about 11
The little owl flew through the night, As if the people in the air Were frightened and he frightened them, By being there....
Oh
Morning OO
no no pugs, never I was referring to the still, quiet silence of the house
good grief... who is shrinking our babble grids of late?
Hello
a very good morning, all of you, btw :)
Why, JT and his program.
hi sprite, good morning to you
*grins* True, o-o.
hi flosey :)
and not just a too small grid, but also a perfect waste of a good Q.
Morning Sprite,hugs---was reading OO's blog
hi pug *hugs*
Epigroove is the home of web designer and developer, Jamie Tibbetts.
How is Sprite and OO today?
Gravity is out of control ... the world sucks.
am good, pug. Got my feet back under me again and planning on sticking to my healthy eating plan today. Will get back to you on your email after babble. Big *hug* for you.
*sneaking in at o-o's to tie some helium balloons to his shoulders*
I see the night owl boogied ... like he often does.
just reading back in chog and enjoying your lines about the little owl, o-o. Love the imagery and the languages. Is it a quote?:
yes
found it, thank you
If a person could walk on their hands for awhile would the gravity pull out the wrinkles? lol
lol pug, who knows :)
gravity keeps on the earth ... more likely to increase the wrinkles
Worth a try thou pug :)
Morning all
morning Anita :)
morning Anita
How is ev 1 this fine sunny morning?
guess I better leave my feet on the ground then OO
its a rainy morning here but Iam alive
and you Anita?
Well that's a bonus!
I am consternated about another puny grid
you probably have the sun we had yesterday, Anita. Overcast and rainy here today. But am feeling ok. How about you?
I'm good ty pug, working
<==== is with o-o
Sprite, Rose was here earlier and shes not doing very good. Shes racked with pain and cant sleep
Sunny but only 5 degrees, can stand the cold but not the grey,
am glad she came online for a bit, pug. I heard from her through email. It is a tough blow.
oh yes, Anita, I feel the same. Good winter days with freezing temps and a bit of sun... those are the best.
well, going to try to sleep again, goodnight all - hopefully until a very reasonable hour
her knee and body is hurting
night Flosey and hope you can too
small wonder, pug. She is hurting inside something fierce, so no buffer left for the body.
and her heart too, pugs
night flosey, sleep well and long enough *hugs*
tyty ladies
a bit brisk 8°F -13°C Wind Chill -6°F (-21°C)
ohh OO thats just a little cool
brrrrr o-o, that sounds so cold. I wonder... have you ever considered moving to a place with more sun hours?
the news is saying we have a winter mix storm coming thanksgiving day
wow... good day to stay indoors then, pug
Another few minutes - Hi sprite :)
are you having snow there too OO
hi Liz :) *hug*
Hi o-o too.
the winter freeze kills germs and other pesky things
Sprite you still having nasty weather
yes it does and Iam glad too
*grin* That is true, o-o.
I keep my house cool to keep germs down
the christmas I spent in vietnam has convinced me a warmer climb has its own problematiticals
yesterday was lovely, pug. Cold but sunny. Today is overcast and rainy again. Nothing unusual for the time of year.
I dont like hot so I wouldnt like living in a warm climate state but as I get older I find I dont take the cold as I once did
How did it go with the therapist yesterday, Sprite?
you still fighting a cold Sprite
ouch, o-o. In-very-deed. That particular climate must have harboured unspeakable things. I was thining more along the lines of a sunnier part of America. But maybe you want to stay near your mother? Or maybe moving at all is just too much?
on christmas day there were monsoon rains ... about a foot of water on the ground ... with steam rising to the firmament
that does not sound too pleasent of a xmas OO
Liz: went very well. She helped me to see I am doing pretty ok, and that most of my panic was due to my setting my goals too high and being way too hard on myself. Sigh. Will I ever learn? But I feel better now.
and that on top of the fighting and threats.... how horrific, o-o
Good advice, sprite. But hard to follow!
pug: yes, but am winning. Lots of fluids, vitamin C and a nose spray seem to help ;)
Time for dinner - so hugs to you all. Enjoy your days.
good Sprite---bye Liz
OO, did you like it over there
lol Liz, so very true. But something I really ne4 to learn. Every time I start scrambling upright again, I hit myself over the head with a heavy hammer and yell: "Stay down! It is not perfect yet, so it is nothing!" Not very helpful, is it.
I would rather stay here with people I recognize but do not know that go elsewhere to be around people I neither recognize and know.
OK so before I go, Sprite, we'll just have to keep telling you to be realistic!!!! Really got to go now :)
that makes sense, o-o.
yes please, Liz :) Thanks! And have lovely day.
hmz... lovely evening and night, rather. Keep the lovely day till tomorrow.
this grid isn't just puny, it is nasty. With a phantom gerund ending, a phantom -dge ending, a useless Qu tile and a single-use up- prefix.
I have wonder why letters are put into the grids that are not at all usable
What is the meaning of "asseverate"?
right now I got no ideal but will get out the book and look it up
the grid is made by a computer program that puts in letters in a mixture ok for english, scrambles them, and then discards grids that are too small (like less than 20 or 25 words). It doesn't use the criterium of unused letters.
make more severe?
verb: to affirm or declare positively or earnestly
so... I could asseverate you of my feelings of friendship? Great word.
yep, what OO said--the book says to state positively
Puglet, bookmark this one: http://www.onelook.com/
onelook is a good one. I also like http://www.infoplease.com/
got them--is adding to favorite the same as bookmarking
yes, pug
they call it bookmarking because, just like with a mark in a book, it will let you find it again without having to search for it.
You may also like: http://phrontistery.info/ihlstart.html
okay, thank you and I assume this is a online dict.
obscure words for an obscure world
and I hope its one of those for dummies--lol
both infoplease and onelook use more than one dictionary. Bigger chance of finding a meaning :)
like all those books for dummies
o-o, thanks for that last link. Looks like a place to browse :) Dictionary of obscure words... lovely.
pug, stop putting yourself down! You are smart and willing to learn. That makes you a lot smarter than about 80% of the people.
My favorite dummy book is Dummies for Dummies.
Iam not , but stating a fact---theres things I dont know but Iam willing to learn
roflol o-o
honey, you KNOW there are things you don't know. I guess that makes you smarter than about 98% of the people :D
deals with questions like, how many light bulbs does it take to change a circuit breaker
lol--is there such a book, OO
oh LOL
never thought of it that way Sprite
I wish they had computer classes when I was in school
yeah, that would have been helpful. Back then they didn't expect computers to become so universally used. We are the true autodidact generation :)
shorthand and typing was about it and you only got into those classes if you got sign up early
same for us. I got an extra class for typing. Not for shorthand though.
you still have your typewritter
puglet ...you are no slouch. Please read these: http://tinyurl.com/oex4h9x http://tin\nyurl.com/o3kvzr9
lol, I learned typing the hard way... old-fashioned, old teacher with a cane, which he used to hook around your neck when you did something wrong. And on a mechanical typewriter.
I wasent able to get into shorthand but I did typing--I signed up for faa and was the only girl in the class and I felt like a fish out of water
nice ones, o-o
I would put the margins together in a mechanical typewriter and not be able to move the carriage. Teacher could not figure out why I always had problems.
thanks OO and I wrote them down--is it okay if I check them out after we part--it takes me awhile to do these things and I hate leaving nice company--but I will if its important to you
he was the first teacher I ever got into problems with... took away his cane when he used it on me.
lolol o-o
puglet whatever you decide ... you may ignore it too.
lol--OO---------that dont sound like a very nice teacher Sprite
btw, that last link was modified by Babble. It starts http://tin y ... remove the backslash + n to make it tiny
the typing has helped with the keyboard on the computer though
no, he wasn't, pug. Not much fun, those lessons. The only good thing was learning it on a mechanical machine. My fingers got strong and precise and now, on a computer, I can reach insane speeds.
Ive seen that here from time to time--lol----wonder how you could be so fast---and OO too
Sprite does your kids go to school were you did
no pug, we aren't living near where I grew up.
I am not a good typist ... last test I did 75 words per minute with only 71 errors
do you go to reunions Sprite
*giggles* Never shows in your messages though, o-o
the instructor said I had a spot of work to do.
well overnight OO you can type a book on your blog--and thats pretty fast and no boo boos either that I see
no I don't, pug. I had a hard time at school. The best part was my friendship with a couple of older boys in the last few years of high school. And those friends I still see from time to time, we kept in touch and still do things together. So I don't feel like going back.
that is a copy and paste, pug
yeah, school wasent great for me either. My dad hauled trash and we were looked down on
the current profile article is one I value
just read it, o-o. So very applicable to my current struggle too. Thanks for sharing.
I felt that OO when I read it--do you still have that hanging in your home
no ... bookmarked ....school was difficult ... I was angry and surly .... was bullied and had a lot of fights ... and teachers that thought I was an arrogant clown ...perhaps?
It seems us three have alot in common
an arrogant clown... darn. No eye for what was really happening then, those teachers.
My parents would get notes ... so I was in more trouble than usual at home ... I got to the point where I did not care and argued with the teacher if I thought the instruction was faulty
do you know why you were so angry OO--It might help Sprite with her son
stupid people, pug :( Those uppity kids should have thought of how their houses and streets would look like without people hauling trash.
Oh, I knew why .... a lot of violence and trauma in the home ... regularly beat on and told I surely would go to hell.
*hugs o-o* And that shows... to other kids, somehow. And makes you the one being picked on and bullied.
reading the chog makes me realise peeps like me with disABILITIES are not the only ones picked on or bullied at school.
Kids and some people are not like that though,Sprite. This was before there were the trash pick up like todays. We had a old pickup with sideracks and I helped a lot due to my dad needing someone to help shovel and load barrels
when I got the bullies alone they got a lot more friendly
hi diz, true. Everyone that stands out in some way is at risk.
am really sorry you got treated that way, pug. Nothing wrong with working hard and providing a service.
Iam sorry OO that things were like that for you---hugs to comfort
good for you, o-o
same to you Sprite and Diz
seems we all know how bad it feels to be in a hostile environment.
That is all ancient history ... the question is what am I going to do today to have a meaningful and productive day.
I ended up fighting a lot...had 3 elder sisters who stuck up for me but then when they finished high school, I was on my own....so fought my own battles.
exactly, o-o. They spoiled a part of our lives for us. It is up to us, though, if they get to spoil our present lives as well.
*hugs diz* Stupid people.
sidenote: somehow I would expect adlute to work. I mean, dilute is something, right?
I only got into 2 bad fights that I remember---and I was afraid of myself---I went into a blind rage and if I had killed I wouldnt of known it(recon thats from the redhair-lol)
But to this day I still have to defend myself....I am 59 yrs old, mother of 2 andysical probs...that I am incompetent....grrrrr g/mum of 5 + one angel....peeps still think cos I have medical and ph
hehehe, pug, good for you though.
oopsie that didn't come out right
very very frustrating, diz. While you dealt so well with life. Must be maddening to still having to defend yourself.
Today, I tell people I am a nutter ... approach at your own risk.
I dont like being out of control like that though
not doing yourself justice, o-o, though it might help keeping the stupids at bay.
I hope you dont wear that sign OO
I understand, pug. But at least you stood up for yourself a few times.
sprite.....some idiots like to think that those with special needs, are idiots
I really feel bad about it though--one was with my dad and the other to a boy in our block
oh god yes, diz. I have a friend who is in a wheelchair. Can't count the times we went to a store and the sales person asked ME: "What does she need?"
don't feel bad about it, pug. Please. They must have pushed you so very very hard to make this happen. Don't take responsibility for their part of the deal.
through all the things we here on babble have gone through we should find all the answers here-lol
lol, we mostly do, pug ;) Very broad spectrum of knowledge, our babble community.
Not long ago I got a certified letter from the veterans administration telling me I was reported for disruptive behavior ... they wanted me to explain at a meeting before the disruptive behavior committee .. I told them to go to hell ... the chairman said I had a problem and I told the chair the problem was the VA had been purportedly treating me for almost 14 years ... now, ma'am, where does the problem lie?
omg... are they insane, o-o??
of course they are not going to take the blame
total idiots. How dare they.
Sprite...because I am deaf, sometimes I don't hear correctly, in the case where hubby or dtr are with me, they speak over me and to them asking quests....dtr reply (very sarcastically) ya talking to me Mum, not me
and by the way OO, thank you for your service to us
they have given up on me ... I know I am no saint ... yet about the only thing I hear on a consistent basis is I may have to accept I will not get better.
good for her, diz. So very stupid to think somebody who has a handicap hasn't already found several ways to overcome it. My friend always enjoyed my reactions too. Her favorites are: me keeping staring back at the sales person without saying anything, until he got restless and finally addressed her. And me talking back to the OTHER sales person, mirroring the stupid behaviour.
how long did you serve OO--------and what do you tell yourself OO?
as long as you don't give up on you, o-o. You will get better. Not better as in without issues. But better than you are now. And I know this because you keep trying, keep working on yourself.
Diz have you been in the chair all your life
two years with a tour in vietnam ... the fun spot of southeast asia ..... join, travel the world, meet interesting people ... kill them.
good grief, two years. Two years in hell because the army sends you there, and then they tell you now YOU have a problem. Yeah right.
I can understand, cant really since Ive not killed, but you had to do what you had to do OO and Ican see that weighing heavy on someones mind
Kennedy was shot fifty years ago today ... I was a soph in high school ... what a shock.
I was just a little kid but I remember my folks and grandma being upset
I think it is impossible to really understand. We can read about it... the heat, the noise, the threat, the boredom, and the horrors... but we weren't there. I can only respect the fact that you must have horrible memories and severe cptsd.
I wasn't born yet then. My husband was, though, and even though he doesn't remember much of his youth, he remembers this.
you speak so beautiful Sprite---just how I feel about it too
*hugs pug*
though not a nice thought, I also am thinking at least those that expire have not had to endure this life but are in a happier place (I hope)
I have dealt with many issues .... the process will always continue .... but I am better able to cope ... trying to forgive has reduced the anger an bitterness substantially. Doing something is so important
I hope so too, pug
you are so strong OO-hats off to you
have said so before, but it bears repeating, o-o: in my eyes you are a hero. It is a tough battle. And recognizing that forgiveness will help you heal a little is a big thing. I have been so bitter most of my life. And I still have trouble letting go of certain resentments. But I know I will have to learn, or I will not get better.
I do not understand many things ... but being told I do not understand by professionals who supposedly are there to help me understand is so troubling to me.
OO, how can they understand unless they have walked in your shoes?
I can imagine. They are there to help you understand. Telling you you don't understand is like telling you that water is wet.
It sounds like things go back farther then just the war--so they cant truly understand
same to you too Sprite--subtract the was but the other things
to help somebody a little further on their way, they don't have to understand perfectly. They just have to recognise they don't really understand. And work from there.
good morning.
hi ruby *hugs*
I'm coming up for air, drowning in a sea of papers
{{sprite}}
gooooooooood morning Ruby--hugs
battling with red tape and scary tax people, ruby?
{{little pugs}}
oh you wrapping gifts? LOL
lol pug
red tape and white paper--sounds christmasy to me
o-o sorry I just read the log. My son is in the military did 3 tours and came back from the first tour with PTSD. The David Lynch Foundation is helping veterans through teaching them Transcendental Meditation. It really helped my son. Go to www.davidlynchfoundation.org. It's all I know but maybe they can help you. I have read on their site that they have helped many veterans from Viet Nam and the current conflict.
32 plus days until christmas
Holidays are blue to me
Morning Marc
Thanks, Marc ..... I am glad your son was helped.
morning all
holidays, shmolidays. Bah humbug!
maybe it could help you
hi Marc :)
hi marc and o-o
hi sprite
holidays aren't easy. Especially for depressed, sick, or bereft people.
In my view, the stop loss law is criminal and the repeated deployments are outrageous and wrong
thats not saying much for any of us lol
glad it worked for your son, Marc. Very hard deal, to have served in 'Nam.
looked up the stop loss law. Criminal indeed.
We really mistreated our Viet Nam vets. We forgot about them. Luckily I had a high number and didn't have to go.
amen to that, Marc
I believe the veterans of the recent conflicts will have it much worse. All those deployments are so devastating
even worse... and still society lets it happen.
The purported representatives of the US find money to send troops to foreign lands to die, be injured and traumatized but so many will not agree to provide universal health care
agreed but at least there are organizations who are really trying to help.
Surely not enough is being done, that is for sure.
yes, that is a good thing, Marc. Not enough, though. The after-care should be so much better.
after all this time women in the military have a greater chance of being assaulted by a fellow soldier than being killed ..... and worse, many are redeployed with the same person that assaulted them
I didn't know that, o-o. That is horrible too.
Our government gives lip service to supporting vets but treat them as commodities ... use, abuse and lose.
sad but true
agent orange, gulf war syndrome, knowingly exposing troops to carcinogens ..... and the vets have to fight every step of the way to get treatment
it is so unfair
and for the ones I know about me that has to go to a va hospital the wait is awflu to get anthing sone
some congressman are blocking appointments to disability tribunals so vets and others wait for years to get issues resolved because the full quota of authorized judges is not available
that is truly criminal
our country needs a good sweeping--thats for sure
I write "nice" letters to my congressional delegation and they have stopped responding.
maybe too sweet OO--lol
they have trouble hearing the truth, huh... ostriches.
perhaps telling my representative if stupid were a virtue he soon would be sitting at the right hand of the Lord
was a poor choice of words
hm yeah that might have done it, lol
when millions are paid to movie stars or sports player and two doors down are hungry kids something is wrong
There are non profit veteran organizations that will help you. Google some of them I know they are there to help vets. They lobby on behalf of vets
amen to that, too, pug. It is the same here. No money, they say, for many people who truly ne4 it. But see what they spend on football here.
totally different topic, but wanna share: my shy daughter, who for the last year had trouble making herself even heard in singing class, is performing tonight! On a small scale, but still! Playing guitar and singing, 3 songs. Our singing teacher invited her and she agreed. Am so proud.
I am of the mind that we need to fire every congressman, senator and president republican, democrat, independent alike and start anew. And keep changing all of them until we get a group that can be reasonable with each other.
Oh wow! Hope you tape it and can share--You are going right?
Marc, what a wonderful id4!
amen to that Marc
oh yes, we are going. We asked if we could, and she said she didn't care. In puber speak, that means yes please come and support me!
If we get a good person in there, theres just so much unhonestly that hes got no chance
good luck to her I imagine she will surprise you and be great. The shy ones always do and come out of themselves in front of a larger audience
my eternal issue when it comes time to vote... how to choose which liar to support...
I hope so, Marc! Am so happy she is taking steps like this. She shows a lot of courage.
Yeah for caya ... I shall think good thought for her
thank you, o-o :)
you bet she has courage

The 1900 Olympics featured a live pigeon shooting event. The winner bagged 21 pigeons.
Yeah!!!!!
Yikes, poor birds.
ok,i will give a less gruesome one...
I just found some weird gl- words.
When lightning strikes the ground, it will sometimes fuse the soil into a hollow, glass-lined tubes called a "fulgurite." This is especially common if lightning strikes a sandy area such as a beach. crossy know people who go hunting for these on the beach after severe lightning storms

I went back to college when I was in my 20's and found that the younger students just didn't give a crap. It drove me nuts.
i am at a pause in my life car. 30 years of running other peoples business and when i found myself in the doldrums at 50,i decided it was time to do for myself for a bit
Oh Crossy....you need to be my mentor. I am always doing for others but never myself.
the 18-20 year olds.9 out of ten truly do not give a crap, cause mummy and daddy are still paying the bills and feeding them

lol, stidmere.if i am word cluing i usually give the stat then the clue.mostly anyways
we were just chatting about weather
Weather, ty crossy. We have calm seas and salmon nets on the inlet today.
i am stalled with 30 to go
may have to list soon
It's pouring rain here in Phoenix---yay!! But, sad for Aloy---she should be here this weekend and comes to town during torrential (for us) downpour!
36 to go here... and slow at that
I have 10 precious words so far.
Awful, big fang teeth grid, crossy!
((mimi)) this grid is indeed toothsome
oops... read the wrong #. I now HAVE 39 words, with 50 left. haha
Oh, well momof5, numbers can be so deceiving!
I'm just loving this weather, though. Have my pretty solar dragonfly, hummingbird, butterfly, and lily lights on inside and candles burning. Finished work early so sipping hot tea with honey and creme brulee Coffee-Mate....doesn't get much better than this for me!
Was feeling accomplished considering I only started the grid 15 min ago. Reality bites.
yes, much better temps for you ,mimi.i am glad for you:))
Except will be switching to martini very soon...!
yes,the sun is over the yardarm here as well and it is soon time for a wee dram
I had a nice cup of tea this afternoon, also mimi, it just seemed especially welcomed on this fall day.
Stid, did you have this weather a couple of days ago? They say it came from the west.
I had soup for breakfast.
i hope the snow squalls give us a miss tonight and tomorrow
No. Mimi, I saw the weather report and the storms were well north of us and then looped to the south and hit our southwest! We've been cold and dry for about five days so far.
Of course, I'm just never satisfied...want some BIG THUNDER to go with the rain!
Just got the toys I ordered for my grandsons and it's killing me not to open them and play!
I know the temptation! I ordered a few things today for the holidays and am so eager to see what we'll get.
Amazon loves me...I should own stock in the company.
I have a similar feeling for Amazon. When I want to get something quickly without wasting my time and money on gasoline, I go to Amazon.
Since I don't have a car anymore, ordering online is the best option for me. Actually, since I HATE to shop, I'd do it this way even if I had a car.
I bought myself a Christmas present today....an 8-qt. slow cooker. Can't wait to do roasts.
*waves*
Hi, cos...long time, no see!
I get so overwhelmed when shopping. Every rack looks better than the one before and maybe a different department would suit even better.
Are you just starting cos?
Kinda. Started a bit last night
Hi mini yeah finally got internet again lol
What I really love is using Safeway.com to order my groceries. They bring them to me, up the stairs and into the kitchen for $6.95...free if I buy 5 of the featured items for the week...and no tipping! And you always know exactly what you're spending.
I love
Amazon
that is a great service,mimi:))
It might be Von's where you live, stid.
Yes, crossy...they haul my 20 lbs. bags of cat litter and all those heavy canned goods for me. Fabulous.
We don't have Von's in the great Northwest. We have Safeway, Albertsons, Haggens (a local store), Fred Myer's, and COSTCO.
Well, maybe your Safeway delivers if that's something you'd like. Just go to Safeway.com.
costco rocks!!!! wal-mart should take a look at way costco does business and treats its employees
I am so glad you are such a smart shopper, Mimi!!
I enjoy Costco, too, crossy. Such a wonderful, ever-changing, selection of items!
The heart attack kind of slowed me down, stid, and I have to look for ways to get things done that don't involve me climbing stairs several times to get groceries into the house. It's especially wonderful in the terrible hot summer...frozen foods arrive frozen and you don't have to go out into the heat.
COSTCO pharmacy is AMAZING...can't believe the prices.
I didn't know you had a heart attack, Mimi. Bummer.
hello, 66 to go
Yep---last year. Had another attack of afib 10 days ago that was scary. But the medication did the trick and now I'm feisty as ever. But I do have permanent heart damage. I just want to get my stamina back so I can get back on stage and sing again!
Harp, good to see you on the chog. We are just floating along on this tile-filled afternoon.
Hi, harp!
i am just on a quick break from work
Do you have storms there, harp? We finally have them here in Phoenix.
we are cold but not much snow. the mountains are getting snow
People think I'm crazy but I actually miss snow...especially at Christmas.
From now until April/May it is perfect weather here, though.
The last time I was in Arizona was January 2007, it was below zero at the South Rim and 25 in Phoenix. People had come for the Phoenix Marathon and were seriously bummed out.
I lived here then and don't remember that...selective memory, I guess. Oh, yeah, northern Arizona weather is very much like yours, harp.
It was below zero in Kanab, which is very odd. Then we got home and it was 65!
I wish you and Jilly could come down for the lunch Aloy and I have planned for 12/1 (Monday). That would be so much fun!
glute is not found in the dictionary. i was so hopeful...
The weather is a good example of the saying "Man plans and God laughs."
gl6?
gl 6/30, in particular?
gl - as in a gl free diet
oh, sorry wrong one
Gonna go feed the cats and get something ready for dinner. HAGN, everyone, and hugs all around!
Hello! Anybody here?
hey guys
aww i missed Mimi
Rows! Came back for a minute to touch base with those I missed. So good to see you!
Am enjoying Risotta Bolognese and a martini. What's new with you , dear?
Happy Friday, babblers.
Fixing paella tonight with local fish and clams. (Not ours but from the store.)

i love when people quote the dalai lama

I think harpo was the thinker... but zeppo had all the good looks!
Tom is home. :-)
Hello babbleworld! hi stid, mab, harp, torgone et all
hey jilly!
Stiddy..how's the house coming"

Don't forget Gummo ..
I have tar paper on the roof, and shingles go on tomorrow! Then once it's dry enough inside, we'll get ceilings and walls and insulation... and then I can go in and finish the bathroom tiling and such.
I did forget gummo *bad memory mama look*
Yay!! I miss seeing your posts on FB, but understand why you got fed up...
hi jilly! 13 left and I am taking a break! bbl
see you then harp...and good for you!! Did some earlier...have 40 to go
thanks jilly -- figured my friends would understand and the others I won't worry about. LOL

Now I really can't wait for the holidays to be over.. *wicked wink*
rofl
hi, babblers
(((welki)))
Hiya welki!
well, there are enough online I think I can share my news about bugsaw - who wrote to me today and asked me to let folks know she is offline for a couple months
i hope everything is okay, stid
She broke her ankle very badly and can't sit up for more than a few minutes at a time.
She WILL be okay, welki, but right now it hurts a lot.
owie - broke mine a couple of years ago, not badly - and it was pretty rotten
i hope she's back sooner rather than later - if you write back, please send her my good wishes for a speedy recovery
yep. but she's a strong person, and maybe this will slow her down enough to let other folks wait on her hand and (forgive the pun) foot for a while.
I will, welki. Thanks.
I like the picture of you on the quad, btw
thanks - just another month or two before the lakes are solid
(solid enough for quadding and ice fishing)
Oh dear, so sad for bugsaw...how awful. Let her know we are thinking about her and sending healing vibes when you talk with her stid!
LOL what a thing to be anticipating. sounds c-c-c-cold!
I will, jilly. :-)
if you prepare, you don't get cold, stid
What do you do with all the ice you catch?
heck, yesterday, we had wind chills of -27c
i make martinis - on the rocks
What is the best bait for ice?
a wet finger - ice always sticks to them
oh my goodness that's cold... and only nov.
hmmm. best bait for ice... snow flakes?
I am always cold. We got down to 0 C and I pull out the long johns!
oh, no wet finger on ice.. BAD idea! LOL
on the flip side, tomorrow's supposed to be +7C - crazy weather
that is a big flip, welki. Ours has been unusually dry and sunny (that's why it is unusually cold...)
I have my fleece on tonight. It's 11 F here
my husband told me that there's a HUGE storm system reaching from southern california to florida - anyone hear of this?
not a single storm, but more like a string of storms, I think welki?
hope they're not severe
The wind chill was below zero today ... so I had to look for a jacket.
that's pretty chilly, o-o did you find a jacket?
i resist putting a coat on, too - don't like the feeling of weight or restriction
yes. the cremation tale comes to mind ... Talk of your cold! through the parka's fold it stabbed like a driven nail.
I like being warm, I buy things loose though so I can wear a million layers comfortably.
brrrrr I think I need a hot choclit now!
clue for go 5 please?
famous book...Waiting for Go***
rather...like
TY Jilly!
(looked up the cremation tale - will take a while to read it - bookmarked)

Yay Jj!!
egads, that sam mcgee was the stuff that nightmares are made of! glad i didn't read it when i was a kid!
strange tales from the yukon :)
Robert Service wrote a lot of peculiar things
strange i've never heard of him before
Stiddy...you will have to wait, but I found a meme that fits your situation...I sent it as a private message
okay, have to get ready to go see Grant... The play he is in, is a lot of fun. "A Servant of Two Masters" -- pity that the college's contract with a local for-profit theater and ticketing agency means the tickets are too highly priced for general community members... *sigh* too much for us, too, but it's our boy and we want to see him doing what makes him happy.
sort of like a northwestern ts eliot *lol*
Jilly - I get messages forwarded to an email. :-)
Yay...I think you'll get a chuckle...
and see you later stiddy...take care my friend!
I don't know how you got through school without seeing sam McGee welki
maybe because i went to school in the states? had a heavy concentration of literature, too
ah, that would do it
but stid knows him - now i feel gypped
just asked husband (who went to canadian schools) - he's not heard of him either. oh well, now i do :)
it was a great camping tale, then we dissected it in school and totally spoiled it
in the right setting, you could scare the bejeezus out of a bunch of kids at the campfire
and make you shiver with cold, and laugh
we'd probably be put in jail for scaring kids at a campfire these days
*boom* welki's crashed the chat
I think the campfire still gets a pass, but I get your drift
Nah...we are all just laughing so hard we can't type!
*looks at jilly*
*counts straight jackets in the funny room*
After my day I am ready for a rubber room!!
mine are custom made by a little tailor in a shop down the alley in a seedy part of town
hi all
ey jmc
and hey jmc
hey did someone borrow my straight jacket?!?!
Hiya jmc!
wow this grid is a bear!
More of a honey badger ..
*taps microphone* testing testing 1 2 3
hey torgie!
Heya jmc
i was just thinking today i seldom see you in the chog anymore. . . but then i am not around as much
I don't chog as much, but I'm usually here ..
i was pleased to see so many babblers like my story today in FB. . . what a basically good hearted group. . . .
Sam McGee http://tinyurl.com/le4pgso
was a great post, jmc - those kids are great
It was uplifting
are you cold there joso?
jmc, torg - did you read anything by robert service when you were in grade/high school? (like 'the cremation of sam mcgee')
i actually had tears in my eyes walking back to the office. . . but i realized later i had not made it clear that they had traveled several miles by metro to get to that particular park. . .
I can't find a copy of the cartoon on the web
stats for the bottom D please
i found a recording of robert service reading it, joso
ethnic slur word, jmc
i am very familiar with the cremation of sam mcgee. . . that is why i asked joso if he were cold. . .
oh fer pete's sakes, i can never just give stats *boink boink*
ah thanks welki. . . no worry i am happy for any help. . .
I am cosey, on a warm couch, blanket over my legs, listening to the wind blow the heat off my house
i didn't read it until today when o-o made a reference to it.
really? I read that in junior high i think. . .
Just caught up on FB...great post JMC!
nope - never heard of robert service. and i took every extra lit class i could get into
thanks jilly
oh well maybe Mother had me read it. . . she thought it was hysterical. . .
the national film board made a great cartoon of McGee, like the cat came back, but i don't think it's on the web
oh too bad joso i bet that was great. . .
there's an 8 minute film on youtube, joso
you know a long time ago i used to watch a cartoon from canada and i don't remember its name. . . i wonder if any of you know it. . .
yes, just saw it, ok but the toon is great, so is jonny cash;s reading of it
ohh i bet johnny cash reading it would be great!
dudley doright
it was a detective and his Sargent. The sargent was short and kind of roundish. . . and he would sing. . .here we go now to catch the bad guys. . . their going to be a sorry bunch of sad guys. . .
no dudley doright was a part of rockey and bullwinkle and a US show
i remember hearing johnny cash do it joso. . . i had forgotten that. . .
it was the first show i saw that i realized was canadian though was that cartoon. . .
don't know it, was it french?
no i wouldn't have learned the song if it were french. . . it was in the late 1960s
Well...heading out for evening TV watching with hubby...
oh well a memory without a home . . . there are a lot of them
bye jilly. . .
i like that - 'a memory without a home'
i still sing the theme song from time to time. . . very catchy. . .
sounds rather forlorn
no it was perky. . .
very bouncy song. . . doesn't translate well into the chog. . . :-(
i think he means your phrase, 'memory without a home'
oh. . . but there are a lot of memories like that. . . i remember twirling in the front yard when i was 4 or 5. . . no idea why. . .
don't you have memory fragments? *puts on foil hat*
long week here and i'm pooped. work was rough and sad. going to watch a stupid movie and try to get rid of the week. g'night folks
(yes i do)
sorry to hear it. . .take care of yourself welki. . .
thanks
i am just aiming for nbt and then a book for me. . .
nbt
okay. . . i am off. . . much love to all in babbleland. . . and i do mean all. . . . *skips out of chog*
Nitres jmc ..
I have many memories of going into rooms only to be disappointed because I could not remember why ... likely why my amnesia chronicles are rather limited ...
Hello o-o. All you have to do is go back to the place where you first thought of whatever it was, still your mind and it (whatever it was, will eventually come back to you.
Well, most of the time. Sometimes it might take a day or two. lol
I'd like to read our amnesia chronicles, o-o. Problem is the pages would be blank? :)
*your. My keyboard has been sticking these past couple of days.
Anyone need any grid clues?
PB for me, 'cos I just typed a grid word.
hm 13 to go
Hello, Jacula. Hope you are doing just swell.
I just tuned in, got the end of the memory talk--I like jmc's line--i wonder if it i original with her--also wanted to tell her we all had Sam MdGee memorized--but she left before I came on just now. I find the idea of Amnesia Chronicles great, o-o. Might not cost too much to self-publish.
nobody's here so I'll get to bed. An oglet is a baby ogre.
I'm here 2 to go
oh, wait, one to go
fini!
Well done, harp.
I'm here long enough to give you a cheer.
HI Everyone. Just came back on; looks like I have to do 50 words with no one here now.
Hi Round Barn!
I'm here. lol
I RARELY FINISH--TWICE EVER. gET HALF WAY OR MORE, USUALLY. pardon caps. Well Nef--you're suddenly here. Did YOU read/know Cremation of Sam McGee?
Year and years ago, RB; why what's up?
Hi Jac.
I know the poem by RS, too, and the song by JC.
There was talk on the chog when I tuned in, just finishing, abt who had or hadn't read it, or knew it. "Please shut the door" is a direct quote.
Hi Nef.
maybe because cold weather is here, now.
It sure is; isn't it? I've been freezing all day!
One for the money. Two for the show. Three to make ready. And four to go.
Roundbarn - They don't say 'pleaee shut the door' where I come from but, more likely, 'WERE YOU BORN IN A BARN?' lol
Don't you step on my blue suede shoes...
and hi, jacula. I was just saying goodnight when y'all came on. sounds like o-o's signing off. I should too--a tissue got overlooked when I ran the wash last night, my drier hasn't worked in years so all the bits didn't get blown off. A nuisance.
I once had a beautiful pair of airforce blue suede boots. I loved them and wore them 'til they wore out.
Roundbarn - if you don't have a drier to collect all the bits in the lint trap, then you might have to resort to sticky tape around your hand to pick all the bits off.
How might anyone walk without stepping on the shoes?
o-o- you can walk without stepping on MY shoes but you cannot help but step on the soles of your own, unles you take them off.
and, I heard "born in a barn " too ... more likely the barn door is closed because of the risk of escape
hey thanks, Jacula, I hadn't thought of that. I dry in the basement and my dark trousers look like spotted jungle animals.
o-o - http://www.elise.com/q/quotes/yeats.ht\nm
I will sign off. Nef, I never sent you the covers, did i. I'll try to remember tomorrow. Night all.
Roundbarn - wouldn't it be a good id4/5 to buy a new drier?
RB, I've found that the soft rubber sink stoppers/jar opener circles that you get at trade fairs does wonders at removing cat hair and fur from furniture and clothes. You might try that also on your lint problem.
the drier is ok--it's the long copper pipe that got a leak in it that I've never had replaced. Actually I like hanging clothes outdoor, or in the basement when the furnace is on--saves energy and is enjoyable. The nuixance times are like now--a mistake--or wet weather when outdoors or the basement won't suffice.
The barn door is closed for many reasons, o-o. To stop theft, to stop drafts, to stop escape, being some of them.
Hello every one
Roundbarn - what long copper pipe? Are we talking about a stand-alone tumble drier?
Hello rocky12.
Hello babblers! How is everyone doing t
the implication of "born in a barn" is that the door is left open .... my perception is that is a false implication
Nef - rubber gloves etc., work quite well at removing lint, but not as well as sticky tape, lint rollers or a 10 minute blast on the cool setting in an electric tumble dryer.
yes, jacula--they don't use them anymore but were hot stuff once--the copper. It erodes. Hi, Rocky, minveryork. I've nbeen saying goodnight for ten minutes so this time I'll really go. Night.
last word--isn't the old saying to the efrfect that it's too late to close the barn door after the horse is stolen?
'Night RB. Sleep well and I wish you a lint-free tomorrow. :-)
o-o- Born in a barn here, means that you were born in a drafty building that was open to the elements.
That'a the way I've always heard it, RB. A person who was "born in a barn" never shut the door after themselves in our house growing up.
I see the chat has Stalled
Hi Min! Hope all isa well with you!
we're talking abt two barn sayings--born in a barn means reprimand for bad or uncouth manners, doesn't it?
I just "wasted" 20 minutes on the Dr. Who google doodle
No it hasn't, ruru. It must be your connection.
Jac; I've never heard of it as meaning a drafty place before.
that was a pun Jac :D
RB - 'were you born in a barn?' in UK is a reprimand to someone who doesn't shut the door when they come in.
what the hay nef?
Ah, I get it now, ruru. Sorry, but is is 5.31am here in UK.
*wonders if you'd be sheepish growing up in a barn*
Well, that particular reprimand is one Mary could never have yelled at her son Jesus...
we're now onto babble about barns, I've been going over old writing abt barns all day--a great story abt my dad, "the great hayloft in the sky," The manure trough is Jordan. Cows of course angels.
I like cows on halloween RB
...waiting...
gary Larson had a lot of good cow cartoons.
see ya, Jac, Round and Nef ,,,, the interloper has struck again.
....waiting..
but if you're making another joke, ru, I don't get it. this time really goodnight.
I have absolutely no id4/5 what you lot are talking about now and, so, if no one needs clues, I'll be off.
interloper?
o-o - Goodnight.
Harp - the Google Dr Who thing was rather silly, I agree.
was a cute joke RB you just didn't play along
Last call for clues now... speak or forever hold your peace...
Ye6 please
ne6 please

Ne 6/21 word is what you sew with uneaixoise.
Quick off the mark there ruru.
not bad for an interloper huh?
I only turned round for a second or two to see my OH off to work.
OH?
Oh, you are the interloper, ruru?
Other Half.
I guess so.. who else would he pick one
I hate it when my last word is a fish. Thanks so much!
pick on
Fireworks!
well done minver.. just in time too
Oh, I don't know, ruru. I've given up falling into all the politics and squabbles on Babchog.
Well done Min! *~*~*~*~*~*
it's not politics.. he's just an asshole
Won't get into that, ruru. OH has just left the house with his new SatNav device, saying, 'We'll see if this works!' I've told him that if I don't see him until Monday we will conclude that it doesn't. lol
and I think you've gotten involved in some way in some of the facebook stuff haven't you?
OH is a trucker and so I'm used to him being away. lol
ah
never heard of OH before
ruru - You mean agreeing with some of the 'Molly' stuff? If so, guilty as charged.
yes.. that's what I mean.. isn't that being involved in the politics and squabbles?
In a set-back kind of way it is, yes. But I really don't have the time, inclination or energy to get actively involved any more.
I find it really funny that BR is 100 times more abusive than any comment Molly has made and yet everyone seems to cut him a lot of slack
BR is someone with mental problems, Molly is a troll. I'll say no more on this.
oh my
Mental problems are no excuse for his behavior.. period
en6 please -- tx
en + the beginning of having too much of something une
tx -- new word for moi
good clue, ruru.
excuse me jac Behaviour
thanks
I have seen him say horribly cruel things in this chat.. yet no one calls him on it. it's terrible
Almost time for the flip. That's when I bow of of chat (see my bio).
night jac
*out of, bloody keyboard!
ruru - I really can't comment with any real knowledge about what has or has not been said on the chog in recent times since I mostly withdrew from it not long after FMitch died. I only check back now if someone tells me there is something I should see.
It doesn't matter Jac. Some people here are bullies and hypocrites.. who only want this game to be one way.. their way. Instead of enjoying it as a social place and a place to have fun and kid around. It is what it is.
And, even if I do see it, I don't always comment upon it.
Any guesses for next grid size? My guess is 141 words.
good guess minver .. but I say 204
hello all i would like about 160
248 is my guess.
759
yuck joso
joso - that would be brilliant!
