Hi jbp
afraid I'm going to have to give up for tonight, has been a busy weekend and now very tired, goodnight all
the b's are killing me.
was trying to get half way but not going to make it
ditto that ... still short 7
ARRRRR
got them all now
well done!

tyvm. it would have taken my monkeys a long time
not seeing the es 7 yet
what you bequeath to someone
I have that as es 6 / 18.
isn't that es 6/18
Hi jbp
re 7 x 3 so far
wow, even when I try to be helpful, I can't keep letters and numbers straight. you are correct Dee... sorry!
and hi Liz
a lot of things that I would say are words starting in re- are not working... grrrr
no problem :)
Disliking b!
me 2
be 7/40
like it won't take be+la4, as in when something is tardy. what's up with that? (she asks indignantly)
and be 8 plural
I tried that too, jbp
weh.
I think it has to be past tense...
harumph
I'm going to bela4 so don't wait!!!! Yes, I know!
;-)
between the be and re words, I don't know if I'm comin' or goin'
its not becoming to be going--LOL
:)
Well, just increase the b's by one. Found a plural I'd missed! Yay!
isn't "drole" a word? I have typed it in a gazillion times, very slowly even...
Double l at the end.
is it only with a double l?
pl/
If I make it to the halfway point I will be pleased and any words after that will be cream on top
You can do it!
I'm with you, Pug.
I don't even know 40 b words that aren't curses.
You too!
lol jbp
are you halfway Liz?
193 (sorry!)
153 here.
24 bs!
I don't suppose anyone could clue the far left E?
yay Liz!!
I got only 23 b's
em 4 / 8
em + sounds like the beginning of a word meaning centre
On these big grids no-one wants to talk
They will, later though.
talking gives my eyes and brain a rest from the hunting-lol
thanks for the em. looks Welsh to me. ;-)
yvw
well, at least I have nbt
WTG jbp
No 8's?
apparently, one cannot sob again.
1 8
So bbs too!
nbs!
only 171 left to go , so I passed my halfway mark
WTG Pugs - see, I told you!
yep... the de8 is empty, like a de 6/21
17 left here
Go Ru!
ty Liz----w2g Ruru
y'all rock!
ty jbp - that's 4 8's now!
would you clue the others? I missed them in the chog... and when I try and click the whole chog, it freezes up
OK - in case it's a different de 8 / 45- mine is extremely sad
yes, mine as well, and empty, perhaps with tumbleweeds
to 6 7 8 7 - thanks to Rbud - a very young child and the way it walks.
thanks 2 Rbud, wherever you are!!!
de 8 / 68 - free of the sort of bugs that make you ill - a past tense
and bo 6 8 7 - like a boundary
Don't know the others as I haven't listed yet.
TYTYTYTY!
yvw
finito!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!woooooo
wow, good for you, ruru!
congrats Ruru
Fantastic! Congrats Ru :)
the b's just about made me cave in for the night
Only have 24 of them, so far!
I needed to go to More and MORE words :D
I'll remember that for tomorrow - or ask for clues!
some unbelievable ones
OK - just found a weird one and its plural!
the 8 the be 8?
No I don't have that. Stats, please.
be 7/40 and be 8/55
or hint? ;-)
most of Ernie's Friend on Sesame Street + It appears to be
Wouldn't say no to a hint either!
that is such a good clue :D
thanks ru - good hint!
Not for me!!!!
it means 'egyptian clover'... at least it wasn't an obvious one\
be 1st syll sounds like the ursa animal
and then, add se4/5
Congrats, ruru!
ty - have it now - googled it backwards from your meaning!
Really weird!
Hi ya Peach
And it was a good cryptic clue - esp the end bit. Not your fault I don't know many Sesame Street characters!
Hi Peach :)
oh.. *note to self.. don't clue liz on kermit and his friends*
Kermit, fine. Animal, great!
EVERYONE knows Bert and Ernie :D
Miss Piggy, fine!
the 2 old guys!
ROFL
maybe they are called something different in Australia?
Didn't know their names.
Hi Liz, pug.
I'm from the UK really jbp - only been here just under 5 years!
Hi to jbp also.
well, with 186, I'm off to slumber. I may be back to try and be finished off tomorrow... er... I mean, to try and finish. Yeah, THAT'S what I mean... nite all!
yeah in Australia they're called Mel and Russell :D
Bruce and Sheila!
my what a big grid grandmere
night jb..
Hi mab and sleep well jbp
Hello Mab
Oh! The old guys - diff names entirely!
night jbp
hi. who's done?
mitch finished in like an hour.. i just finished
I had to list for the last 5
Just googled Ernie and his friend - recognised them!
get out
check the log.. he did..he's unbelievable
is it a gentle, giving grid?
it is.. except for the b's and a few d's
I've got 214 and haven't listed yet - some good clues along the way though.
BBL -early dinner as hubby's going out.
w2g Liz
bye liz
bye Liz
bye liz.
lots of b words.......
Ru, did you get to watch any of the games sunday
No my cable went out
I got half way through the Seattle game. .I am so passed
Pissed....
Is SF your home team
did it go out due to weather
Don't know
.sf is my home team
Since 1977
they are doing pretty good so far
Sorta
I don't think they can beat Seattle in Seattle
doing better then some of the other teams
theres what 3 or 4 more games
Yes sure...and overcoming adversity too..but Seattle is too loaded with talent
Iam still hoping PM and the broncos makes it to the SB---I dont see the colts going this year.
I think Seattle has a few tough games ahead of them
Luck just dont have the help he needs
The broncos are going...unless Tom Brady has something to say about it
Luck needs reggie..Wayne. .
They don't have a clutch receiver now
they need something alright
Andrew luck is incredible..but he can't do it himself
yeah I know, they have too many rookies trying to help him and its just not working out
They locked into the playoffs today
Two years in a row
I wasent sure they were going to make it
But they won't make it far
no I dont think so either
They will likely draw New England
the broncos swamped the titan last night
Or worse Cincinnati
they just played the bangals sunday and it wasent a pretty game-lol
Cincinnati is a far better team than most people know
they say they have one of the best df this year
They do. ..and aj..green is incredible
yikes...this is enormous. Has anyone finished it?
God I wish he played for us out here
who do you think will make it to the SB this year
Denver and Seattle
I thought seattle was going to make it last year
Hi Joy and Ru and mitch has as far as I know
Nope he he he
This is Peyton's year
I was glad that the ravens got it last year though
I sure hope so!
Not me
The Ravens cheated
I'm glad to know someone managed it. I've been working my way thru lickety's list for hours and I'm still on the Ds.
Night guys have an early morning meeting

Hello Crossy
howdy, une, puglet. how is the grid today?
not too bad for the experts--lol

bye pug
I am guessing that the L in the first column is a LY. clue please
need that one too
also need the u
i have a ut4
oh good grief -- tx! LOL
:)
BRB *poof*
hello helo
{{crossy}}
bonjour une!
((ruby))
this morning, in my rush to play a little, I put about 10 little words into the chog. Very bad nel!!!!
happens to us all at one time or another
but so many.....
think my record is 14
hahah
it is the perils of those who cannot touch type:)
but I can, so no excuse
i can hunt and peck at 60 wpm,but this also means that i am looking at the keyboard and not the screen
bo 6/27 plz the first one
my problem is still that I have a Fr keyboard with anEnglish heart so q's and a's are in the wrong places. etc.
hello ivesy
hello ruby, crossy
one of us will have to ship you an American keyboard
howdy,ivesy
I'm sure I asked you before, ivesy, but with my poor excuse for a memory, is Dunkirk anywhere near Binghamton?
no ruby, its just outside buffalo.. quite far from binghamton
thinks its about a six hr drive
and maybe with even worse weather, if that's possible lol
here it is minus 6c and snowing
typical Dec day
Binghamton had fewer sunny days per year than Seattle! Atleast Buffalo gets some sunshine between blizzards. Binghamton only had black ice for 6 months
its 37 f. here but we are expecting snow storm. so far we have been lucky
you will have to lose 5 degrees fast, but it happens
yes ruby. it gets very sunny here, even when its quite cold. but very pretty ... for awhile lol
in Bing, they used to say, "too cold to snow" but I don't think that's really true
we are near the lake. so we get lake effect snow
i have seen it"too cold to snow" but that is at minus 30c and below
i have heard that ruby..! dont know if its true.
Is it Otsego that gets about 12 ft./year from "Lake Effect Snow"?
best snow machine is a open body of wather,a nice north wind and tems about minus 3 c
water
we've been lucky here, avoided the bad storm that raged across northern Europe
temps
wather might be a portmanteau word.....
lol, lord knows what i am typing this morning
I'm trying to pay bills over the phone --- what a trial, doing it in French and sitting on hold and tapping menus
15 minutes to go and i must leave for the dentists....whine....
{{crossy}} whiskey sloshed around the painful teeth maybe?
unfortunately, the tooth is wide open with a crack from the top of the molar down to the gumline,so he must fix it today..i hope
husband used to do all of that on h!is computer but can't any more. Now it's all on me
go back to the old way.get a nice fat cheque book a budget ledger,a box of envelopes and a bunch of stamps
((crossy)) The ordeal will be over soon.
((mimi))
at least this way, I get a confirmation number (if very slowly) and can make my own files. Just love all that paper NOT!!!
hiya mimi
Hi, ruby!
well,i must leave you all to it i am afraid.must dig the car out, scrape the windows and head off
happy babbling,my friends
Let us hear from you when you get back....I'll be concerned until I do.
do you let the car sit, with the motor running, to let the windows deforost themselves. I taught my husband to do that. He would spend 10 minutes scraping
will do...poink!
Wow---I just noticed the words in this grid! That is great--I need the distraction. Having dinner with my daughter today and am truly nervous.
I put about 10 little ones into the chog when I first came on, so feel like a regular do4
I hope it goes well with your daughter. Things are nicely patched up with my son although I never figured out what was wrong
I'm ready for the situation to be over. I've had the same thing with her that you were having, remember? Still don't really understand why but have decided to just let it go if she will. However, it will take time for my heart to heal....
It was a big sadness for me, but didn't seem to affect him at all. Still have no idea....
Looks like a good Christmas this year. I already have toys for the grandsons (that I'm dying to open and play with). My ex is, however, very unhappy. His girlfriend just keeps him in a state of upheaval. It's not like I didn't warn him about her. Well, part of me says that's what you get when you start seeing a married woman when you are still married. They're both single now and miserable.
And he comes to ME to talk about HER....and I LISTEN!!
SERVES THEM RIGHT!
not sure whether you are saint or a fool Mimi!
You shouldn't. He's a big boy and should be on his own. You don't need his troubles
Hello to you both.
LOL, lynx....me either!
{{lynx}}
There's a saying that goes "To hold a grudge or hate is like swallowing poison but expecting the other person to die." That's kind of my philosophy. No point holding onto all that...it just festers and makes one unhappy.
Morning, all.
Hello all :) Does anyone have stats for the lone l at the bottom of the first column, please?
hi bzzn
But he still thinks one day she and I will be FRIENDS!! On what planet does he think that will happen?!!!
ly6.24 Biltong
hi Bzzn
hi biltong
Hi, Bzzz! Hi, Biltong!
trying to pay bills on the telephone [[ it takes forever
and his middle name is Innocent?
ty, lyn and hi ruby, mimi and bzzn
Since he can't seem to buy a clue, I now think his middle name is DUH.
It's like when my first usband's new wife would complain to me about his drinking habits. I told her that I couldn't/wouldn't help
not my problem and it shouldn't be yours, mimi
phantom: bordello
It's not a problem for me as long as he keeps her away from me. I warned him a few years ago that if he ever got me in the same room with her, we were throwing down! Not physically, but verbally I would rip her a new one!
are you saying something about the mess in my studio, lynx? That's what the Fr say
After all, I have motivation to keep a relationship with him because of our kids, but I have none whatsoever to have one with her.
never Ruby
I think your children are old enough to manage their relationship without you. Why should you make trhings easier for any of that lot?
They only give you grief. F*** them
Take care of Mimi
I guess because I'm either a saint or an idiot!! ((lynxx)
I have this lovely studio with piles of paers, carefully sorted (lol) all over the floor
papers*
I am very mindful of my own happiness now and life is good...with or without them.
is you are happy with it that way Ruby- then all is good
is = If
It was less messy before the papers were sorted, but this is progress (of a kind)
This grid is almost as much fun as yesterday's....love it.
I am just trying to reach my little goals, nbt (not yet) and half
One of my cats argues with me...it's so funny. He has all these different sounds he makes for different emotions...it's a riot.
Phantom: redolent.
I love when animals do that. I hD A CAT LIKE THAT ONCE AND rUFIE MAKES MANY DIFFERENT SOUNDS, TOO
whoops, sorry for caps
These three really have personalities. Dodger, however, is the funniest and also the most affectionate. Pywakit and Jillian (Jilly Bean) are terrific in their ways, too. They were all strays and I'm so glad I got to be their mom.
your phantom is actually a word, lynx, just leave off the end
gm, everyone. huge grid for a Monday! OI!
ooh TY Ruby
hi dawg
Hi there, dawg! Loving this grid.
Mornin' folks
hi Bichon
Bichon! Morning!
hello, all :-)
I live in ice world today. I am not leaving the house til it melts
hi lynxxx, mimi, bichon, unea! I'd love this grid if I didn't have to work today.
mmm means the same - before they got all fancy and stuck an O on the end
Hi, Une!
hi dawg and bichon. Yesterday, somebody described the snow as white fluffs and I thought of you and your white fluffs
lynxxx, funny icon! LOL
How are Abby and Murphy?
hiya Ruby!
I agree, Une....lynx, those birds are so ugly that they're cute!
They are great and will be on national TV on the 20th in hopes of finding an adoptive home for them. I will be with them, although I hope I'm not on camera
I don't think they're ugly, but certainly adorable
no longer ice world here -- mud world ugh!
I had to have a photo of them so we had one taken at Petco with Santa
Don't you love muddy paw prints, une?
off to huddle by the fire
I am soooo tired of drying off dogs!!!
see you later, kids
mimi, I'm a lurker. Been following your anxiety. My daughter #2 was estranged for 9 years--never knew what I did. But she came back. My suggestion--listen a lot today, don't bring up any sore subjectts if you can avoid it, but if she wants to, don't cut her off.
stats for the lone E first column?
happy huddling, ruby!
enjoy, ruby
I need that e too
and need the corner L
Good advice, RB...that was my plan. It seems like the less I talk with her the better things are....she can do all the talking. We've been emailing for a few weeks now and she even asked my opinion about an issue with her boyfriend, so I'm hoping all will go well. I'm making her favorite dish..my version of chicken paprikash, and making enough for her to take a lot home with her.
ly6 for the L, no idea what it is tho
Hi all - do yo want clues for the e and the l?
RB---9 years! That was a long time.
yes please, and Hi Liz
((Liz))
please liz
em 4 / 8 - e + rhymes with a word which means the centre.
good. don't let your nervousness make you talk to much--accept her s where SHE is!
tx liz -- new word for moi
ly 6 / 24 - ly + sa 4/4 (eaten enough you feel sa 4d)
em - rhymes with the first part of the word.
tx again!
xxooxx, Liz
Bit garbled but this is plus tard than I normally babble!
or, Mimi, ask her advice on something non threatening to her--more than what color curtains--though that's ok--but less abt her father
yvw
Well, she can't hurt me that badly again....I am now emotionally guarded. But I won't let her know that.
It's funny, RB, she and I can easily talk about her father. She can't stand his girlfriend either! She's very close to her dad which is a good thing. He is a good father to all three kids. I don't bash him EVER...no point.
Now I have a cat complaining in the background....so funny.
good, mimi--I still am careful abt what I say with my daughter--I keep away from loaded questions and loaded advice, but am as generous as I can be, and I LISTEN without judging
I heard something funny the other day. Rita Rudner has a DVD out now that filmed one of her shows. She said she thinks all us mature women with our hot flashes is what has caused global warming!
It's odd, RB...I have never been judgmental with my kids but, wow, have they ever been with me! If I deserved it, that would be one thing, but I honestly don't believe I did or do. My friends want to line up and smack my kids because they don't get it either. The best explanation I've heard is that they were very spoiled growing up....guilty.
maternal guilt, it'll get you every time
I still think Oprah had the right idea....never marry, never have kids, make lots of money and raise dogs!
nbt nbs!!
11.20 here - 75 words left and time for bed I think. Good night all. Enjoy your days.
So true, bichon. But I have decided I'm done with all that. These kids can either get on that train with me or I'm leavin' 'em at the station, but I'm moving on!
Raising dogs is very helpful to the psyche and you don't have to teach them to drive or pay for college
Night, Liz.
Yay, dawg!
bye Liz
sweet sleeps, Liz
I miss my German Shepherd every day still and she has been gone for 8 years. But loving these cats.
I reviewed the chat below, and what I have done with my life is to never marry, have no kids, make good money working as a part-time doc, and raise house rabbits.
We got our first Bichon for our daughter when she was 16 and gong through teen-aged angst. She used to talk to him
The house rabbits don't even bark
Good day to all.
hi Scrabs
Smart, Scrab...honestly.
hi Scrabs
They do thump when alarmed, so, because I share a room with a bunny, I sometimes awaken to thumping under my bed.
Scrabs I am trying to figure out how to do PQ. No matter what I come in last. What's the trick
We sleep with two. Sometimes we get licked in the middle of the night
I originally got my dog as a pup for the kids, but she was MY dog from the beginning. She was truly like my fourth child...and much more appreciative.
Developmentally, one's 20's and 30's are a time to accept one's childhood for what it was, to stop blaming one's parents, and to become accountable.
In theory Scrabs, doesn't always work that way
I have a full-size gong in my living room and sometimes wonder what the downstairs and next door neighbors think when it gongs in the middle of the night after a cat hits it with a tail.....
Bichon, the QP games each require a particular brain specialty, although each are word games. Practice, look at the answers the next day, and go to the forum where I and others discuss strategies. I have been playing for 4 yrs now and am still improving.
I agree, Scrab. My background is developmental psychology so I'm not exactly stupid when it comes to raising kids and I thought I did a very good job.
True, bichon. SOme people spend their lives being angry at their parents for not being "better" parents.
I see a lot of talk about problems with ones adult children. I am having a problem with my mother. I guess it is all a matter of perspective. I am sure she would say she has a problem with me. But she accused me of emotional and verbal elder abuse!
My whole attitude about psychological issues is that once you understand why something happened, you no longer have an excuse to perpetuate your maladaptive behavior.
I don't understand how to put a letter in a box where you want it to go
Oh, phandmd. Sorry!
all because I made a comment she took as snide and was not at all intended that way.
My mother was like that, but now she has Alzheimers andd there's nothing there. I wonder what was worse?
Click and drag, bichon. Or, on the QP game when you click on a letter it goes in the yellow box directly above
Phan, I just really think people are much less forgiving than they should be and way too eager to find fault.
thanks Scrabs
hi phan, hi scrabs
getting old is a joyous thing no?
We have always had a strained relationship, but I have been nothing but loyal. I mean she lived with me for 3 months after her accident which caused her a fractured hip.
Mimi, I think you are right.
Things I remind myself: reality is subjective; people's behavior makes sense to THEM; I am not responsible for someone else's feelings/thoughts/behaviors.
not really lyn. When she no longer recognizes anyone but me, that makes for a lot of sadness
She is also a very difficult woman to get along with, very narcissitic. If it's not about her, then it's not important. And she is very controlling.
phandmd, she is directing her anger at you because you are there.
My smartass son once kidded me that I shouldn't worry about getting Alzheimer's because they wouldn't be able to tell the difference! Just don't know WHERE they get their smart mouths.........
Well, that may be, Scrabbler, but I have drawn a line in the sand with this abuse accusation.
She sounds exactly like my mother, phandmd. I lowered my expectations about 20 yrs ago. We have never been close and I accept that I cannot change her. I cannot get water from an empty well.
When children first learn to talk, it's cute. No so much later
It really is true that you teach people how to treat you. One cannot be a doormat unless one lies down. Nor can you be a victim unless you participate.
that is true, Scrabs.
True, phandmd. You do not want to be accused on something that severe.
And yet, you are so good to her, Scrab.
didn't mean that Bichon - was just reflecting on all the awful things we shall all face as we live longer and longer
ROFL, bichon! Amen.
she doesn't seem to get it though. Alas, that is not my problem, but hers.
My daughter is so upset that her beloved grandmother doesn't recognizer her any more.
I taught my kids to think for themselves....well, that came back to bite me on the butt!
I honor my mother. That I must do.
Dementia is sad to witness.
so true Mimi. My son calls me often for advice about his relationship with his wife. But he never wants to hear my advice
well, I came in the conversation abruptly and will leave the same way. Animals need feeding and letting out. That should be fun for Jasmine, we have a coating of ice on top of the snow we got yesterday!
He wants to vent, huh? But not seek advice.
bye phand
Do not slip, phandmd.
You got it.
Most of us do the best we can as parents. After all, as the saying goes, kids don't come with a manual. They need to be far less judgmental and far more grateful.
Scrabbler, I do honor my mother as well, I still wished her a happy b-day and reminded the children to call her...
I put on my Yak Trx this AM
Hang in there, phan...we're here for you!
Thanks, and I am here for you all too. poof
You know, we can learn a lot about generosity of spirit from our animals.
Yes, Mimi. Parents really do THEIR best under THEIR circumstances with THEIR own personal frailties and limitations. Once kids are young adults they must assume responsibility for their own decisions regardless of their childhood.
mimi and all, a final note before I get to work: one CAN be a victim without participating or allowing it--an extren me exzmple would be assault on children--verbal, sexual, you name it. But it can happen to older people, too. So, off to work. (Or a doormat, too--if you've been knocked down you may not be able to get up fast enough.
lord
True, RB. I do see far too many kids being raised in horrendous situations, but I focus on kids creating the life they want for themselves, i.e. bad childhood, good adult life.
Scrab, couldn't agree more. The weird thing is that all three of my kids have college degrees and are very self-sufficient people with good lives. Do they really think that was an accident?!!
oops. poof.
TY for the free clue, RB.
Mimi, they are too inexperienced to know better...yet.
it fits the conversation don't you think, Scrabs? Did I mention once I had house rabbits and wrote a story about them?
When one is an adult, one has the choice of allowing victimization to continue or doing something about it...that's what I meant. Guess my statement was too general...I need to work on that.
Yes, RB, I checked your website a couple of weeks ago.
The weird thing to me is that I KNOW I taught them forgiveness and generosity of spirit. I see them apply those principles to everyone but me....hey, not fair!
rest
Mimi, being a mature adult means being fully accountable and responsible for one's life. Too many people blame their parents rather than assuming full responsibility.
TY again, RB.
Some people blame everybody and everything for their inadequacies.
I never understand why people are so willing to give up their personal power by blaming others for their situation. I have often said what you expressed earlier, Scrab....reality is subjective.
oops again scrab and this time I'll get on the right box, or better yet, get to work. bye, all.
Bye, RB, HAGD!
Denial, repression, suppression, rationalization, projection...defense mechanisms are used often by immature, unwise people.
That is why I personally prefer SMART recovery to AA. AA promotes accepting you have no control but SMART gives you tools to take control. Totally different way of approaching the issue.
Drug use, alcohol, tobacco, food, gambling, sex...people find all sorts of ways to avoid reality and to sooth themselves.
I have to look that up, Mimi.
I'm hoping to start my own group soon. Very much want to help people and show them how much better life is on the other side of addiction....they just must be willing to go through a bit of pain first to get there....and that's the rub.
It is based on cognitive behavior therapy, Scrab. Albert Ellis was instrumental in getting the science of it down for practical use.
I'm still hoping to finish my degree and have my own practice. My feeling is that rather than regret some of the traumatic and dreadful things that have happened in my life, it's better to use those things as a way of understanding others and helping them see a different point of view and develop coping mechanisms that are healthy.
Looks great, Mimi.
I'll get off my soap box now...just got me started on something I'm very passionate about!
SMART has many advantages over AA, but the discourse on addiction is still primitive. Addictions are compulsions that develop over time, and have meaning. Dealing with control over substance use is a small part of the jouney.
I agree, Mimi. Humility, reality, and responsibility make life easier.
Yes, Kaplan.
Absolutely, Kap...it is important to have a place to start, however, and in my opinion, SMART provides better support and guidance.
I'm not bashing AA, though...it has done a lot of good for a lot of people. Just not my cup of tea.
I believe that people with addictions are stigmatized for not having personal control as if they themselves are diseased and have the problem. The problems are often wider and embedded in our shrinking social network (don't mean social media). I helped start a SMART group in a clinic where I affiliate, and if you go to the annual Harvard addictions conference, I helped SMART to get a table there.
It's in Boston in March, Mimi, if you go.
Fabulous, Kap! Good for you! It needs to be more widely known.
Student discount. Two days of powerpoints are grueuling, but wonderful information and different points of view.
Unfortunately the SMART representative bombed his presentation and alienated his audience. I was embarrassed.
I bookmarked the website.
Sounds like Kap is an even better resource for SMART than me, Scrab. Happy to know that about you, Kap!
The Babble community is wonderful!
Something that has to happen is to stop blaming people for their difficulties. They also tend to blame themselves.
Yes.
I have an example of "once you know the reason you no longer have an excuse." My mother left when I was 5 and never came back. I was raised by my paternal grandmother and have no conscious memory of my mother from my early years. I was doted on and adored and spoiled by my adoptive parents but never knew the truth about my mother or that I was actually related biologically to my mother/grandmother. All my life I had a fear of people I loved leaving me and thought I was just crazy since I couldn't trace it to anything. Then when I was 22 I found out the truth...V8 slap to the head! That's why I felt that way! So....once I knew the genesis of that way of feeling, I no longer had an "excuse" to feel it and it turned my life around emotionally. Small example, but relevant, I think.
Great story, Mimi.
I met my bio mother at 22 and saw full-blown in her traits I knew I possessed. Didn't like what I saw and went about changing myself accordingly. We do have control if only we will use it. Every time one takes control and move forward, it strengthens you and makes it easier next time...don't you think?
It's too icy to scrape the car and go to the gym.
With that in mind, however, there is a prayer a friend told me once that I still say...."Please, God....don't make me any stronger!"
Well said, Mimi. I think it comes down to personal responsibility and accountability, without blaming anyone or any circumstance. Life is about "If _____, then ____." Learn from your choices.
Why, Mimi? Why not become stronger, wiser?
Everyone makes mistakes...just try not to make the same one twice!
That was tongue-in-cheek, Scrab....in other words, please don't give me any more big traumas in life.
Yes. I like the quote: insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results.
I am rather literal and concrete, Mimi, so some things go over my head. (Silly Scrabbler.)
And the one I quoted earlier, too...holding a grudge or hating is like swallowing poison but expecting the other person to die.
True. Let go, let go, let go. Move on, grow, learn...
good morning everyone, interesting discussion here
I am literal and concrete as well Scrabs :)
I like to know if I'm "heard" differently than I intend, Scrab...helps me refine my way of stating things.
Hi Perwinkle, wise creator of The Periwinkle Maneuver.
haha
good morning all
((peri)) Heady stuff for so early in the day, huh? Obviously, I like this topic.
Hi, teach!
Mimi, it is difficult to "read" things in a chat--no tone or nonverbal cues to be interpreted.
Hi wv
hello mimi. scrabs, and peri
True, Scrab. But since I'm trying to write a book, this is good practice/feedback for me. The written word can be such a powerful thing.
Yes, good for you, Mimi!
Good Morning Everyone

Dolts unite! Count me in
Yay, welki!
Not much of a joiner, but it seems like there'd be very small commitment to the cause
NBT and NBS - time for a breakfast break
No commitment, welki, because we are dolts. I am a doofus too.
I am a word nerd!
I am a nerd, geek, etc...
ohhh, that reminds me of that magazine i'd read when i was a kid - scholastic something - there was always a story about Goofus and Gallant. always felt so bad for Goofus
Junior Scholastic!!
Highlight Magazine. Goofus and Gallant--twins.
is that magazine still published, scrabbs?
Yes.
bbl
hi/bye peri!
I loved Highlight as a kids - always read it at the dentists office
Me too, River!
I was more of a weekly reader guy

Yes, welki!
Good morning, everyone !
Hi Diane
sorta but had some real short stories in it also
hi, neighbor!
balmy -6 this morning....
Yikes, Diane.
roads are horrible here, diane. today's my day off, but i have a work luncheon at 11:30 - thinking of staying home
slippery commute for me today - snowing here
Icy here too, but I am home sick today.
we're expecting white out conditions starting any minute
Scrabbler... I have a question. Our resident "wild rabbit" is still around, all white now except for the tips of his ears. I noticed him late one night on the patio, sort of eating some of the bird feed on the ground. What else could I put out for him?
found the diamond company
Get Timothy hay.
Our roads aren't bad.... just a skiff of new snow but the wind is up, and I'll bet yours is blowing even harder.
feel better scrabs
Diamond company?
diane, if you're leaving in a month, i wouldn't put anything out for him - he/she'll become dependent on your feeding him/her
Dizzy, headache...
same with the bird feeders - wean them off your feeders before you leave
Okay... not sure where to get it, but timothy is a natural growth around here.
True, welki. There are usually two of them but haven't seen the smaller one lately.
I think the bunny will get enough food. The problem for rabbits is that they are prey animals and are food FOR other animals.
stuck at 235 cya later
Bye, Steve.
that's why i don't put up feeders anymore - i can't promise that i'll be here every time they're emptied
bye, steve
bye steve
Many of our immediate neighbors feed as well, but not as faithfully as we do. I miss my bluejays when we are gone.
bole
sorry
I enjoy seeing birds year-round here. I have numerous feeders and suet cake feeders too.
TY, wv.

Babble: What you're doing when you should be doing something else!
Yay, Aloy. You are fortunate.

Hi Doren. Babble is educational!

Uh, oh, I did not know about a fire, mael.
yeah scrabs, the wall behind our chimney caught on fire on Thanksgiving (like you do), it was terrifying at the time but the damage is actually pretty contained
ruby chemo or radiation?
Sorry to hear about that, Mael..but glad it was not too extensive.
I looked at what was available and decided to make myself a guinea pig, so I signed up for an experiment
Whoa, you are both unlucky but lucky. And a reminder of why I don't use my fireplaces. The risk of a housefire terrifies me.
the good news ruby is that you knocked it out! Eff cancer, I say

My Mom had a radical mastectomy with lymph node removal. She has serious lymphadema
thanks aloyisius! Picture a pregnant lady running out of the house holding a cat, plus my sister in law with her newborn, utter chaos. It's already a story to tell, though, so humor is helping. :)
Pediatric oncology is both a hopeful and tragic world.
I shopped around and had a doctor in Boston design my chemo protocol which I then had to "shop" in Miami, to get a doctor to do it.
There's a do4/5: imbecile.
de6= remove sodium chloride
lymphadema?
i am following this closely for application to lymphoma. opne of the researchers was diagnosed with it and he said his view has totally changed
wrong D but i didnt have those words

hands over an ice pack for Scrabs on her way out. lunch!
TY, Hego.
Of course, the OCD Babbler that I am cannot leave. I must find "just one more word."
How about a clue, then, for re 8 ??
Similar to a word that means to dictate the rules, to oversee, to monitor, but change the 2nd vowel.
That clue sucks, by the way. How about re + Italian ice cream but change last vowel.
YAY!! Thank you
relast
I am working on the last 2 le5's and the last le6
OOOPS
I tried that 4 or 5 times already, Erda. Give it up.
Second ge6 anyone?
NM, I found it.
I haven't...*waving for a clue*
ge + tardy
oh I have that one
oh I have that one
I didn't, ty scrabs
Which one do you need, Rolin?

thanks for the hug, Scrabs! It was a bit of a battle today, but I really feel I am improving. Killing childhood traumas every day atm.
ty
thanks for the 8
Let it go, Sprite. Easier said than done.
((((sprite)))) sorry you have to go through all that! It sounds like you are doing good work.
well, yes, it is easier said than done, but necessary. In the end, nobody but we ourselves can free us of the burden.
((sprite))
thanks sue :) Yes, it is going well, thanks. How are you doing? And how is Frank?
thanks Annie :)

thanks! they are much appreciated!
it seems that the y are concerned. why the change in drs
when we got married, Frank got onto my insurance, TO, but it didn't cover the doctors he had been seeing locally, so he had to change
the coverage is far better, though, so we should have much smaller out-of-pocket expenses now
what a pita :(
that's too bad. continuity of care is important i feel
I agree
however, with the large practice system, it is hard to do. our local practice used to insist to schedule to the doctor who was free, saying it was a group practice. they seem to have backed off on that.
I agree too; that's partly why we waited to get married until he was done with chemo
but it really wasn't sustainable; his insurance had a $10,000 deductible and then only paid 70%; the hospital wrote off what we couldn't pay
taking cae of a cancer patient is a full time job. with compulsory overtime.
Well, I really hope this turns out to be nothing (there are other things that can make the CEA levels go up), but I am, of course, worried.
anyway, I am off to get a bit of lunch. bbs.
later, sue.
Good thoughts offered. Hope it proves to be nothing important, Sue. You guys have been through enough.

hiya crossy! :) *hugs* Glad you have your teeth sorted for now. Yay for the algebra and I will think of you for the appt.
bye for now, TOwl. All the best.
been a great Monday:(( just need a meteor to come out of nowhere and land on top of me to cap the day off perfectly
((sprite))
yeah, my day was kind of like that too. *hugs*
I am detecting a tone of sarcasm there, Crossy. Sorry to hear that.
I mean that your day isn't great...
and same for you, Sprite.
*giggles* Just a tiny touch of sarcasm...
thanks phan. Some days are like that, aren't they.
Momma said there would be days like this ....
yes, they are.
my life is feeling like that in some ways right now...
hi o-o! Good to see you. puglet and I were wondering if you were ok, missed seeing you for a couple of days.
am sorry to hear that, phan :(
well, everything could be worse! So, counting my blessings on that point.
counting blessings is good. But taking your issues seriously is too... and venting can be good as well.
all of which I have done.
good :) Don't want to stick my nose where it doesn't belong, just wanted you to know I can always lend an ear.
the issues while they do affect me, are really other peoples issues. i.e. My daughter had been attacked not too long ago, and she decided not to press charges. My son is suffering from depression My mother is a narcisstic pia and has accused me of verbal elder abuse!
and she doesn't see that she crossed the line with that. And sees it as me having an issue with her!
very unpleasant, phan :( Sorry about them all. I know how hurtful a narcissistic parent can be.
no good deed goes unpunished
too true
but as I say, all these things could be worse. My son could have jumped off a building instead of calling for help, My daughter could have been raped and wasn't only kissed against her will. And well, my mother could have made an official accusation...
On a positive note, I am liking my new job!
all true. Still, not fun to have to deal with it all. Yay for the new job! What do you do?
Oh, I got my first nursing job back in October. I am working as an oncology nurse.
awesome! Good work, that.
yes. Not easy, but fulfilling. I feel I am where I belong.
I've seen more than my share of oncology nurses over the past few years. A very impressive group indeed.
Sorry, Sally. I wish my job wasn't as necessary as it is.
things would be a lot worse without you nurses

tooth is filled,a metal band is around it and I am good till dec 23 when they will clean the right side of my mouth and reassess everything

oh my. i must go to the dentist. rather scary. i've never heard of a banded tooth - fancy
just got back from the results of the MRI on my neck and the herniated disks therin. I have severe arthritis in 2 spots, a severe narrowing of the area where the nerves run though and a hole that was formed along the entire length of my spine when I was born.He wants me to see a neurosurgeon in the city now
maybe that's how they track you to make sure you come back
nbot fancy, mab,it is just holding the two broken halves together
lol
it is a saga indeed
might see if I can make a mini-series around it all:))
now your neck, that is a bit worrrisome.
good grief - the back! - are you in much pain with that? puts the teeth into the background
do you have pain from the neck?
actually the teeth are in the foreground atm and the neck is just a tad behind pain and annoyance wise

LOL---i always suspected as much!
Just finished making the paprikash for my daughter and will be seeing her in a couple of hours....nervous.
what is paprikash?
hello everyone :)
best
It's a Hungarian chicken dish with tomato/sour cream sauce spiced with bay leaves and paprika and served over noodles. Mine isn't the traditional, though...I developed my own version....yummy, even if I do say so myself. Wish I could give you some of it, crossy!
oops
Hi, nan!
sounds delicious:)
howdy,cybernan
mimi. did you have your dinner? How did it go?
howdy,roundbarn;)))
her daughter arrives in two hours I believe, roundbarn
Will be doing so in a couple of hours, RB---thanks for asking. Got the paprikash made, though, so I can relax a bit first.
crossy, tell me about your classes some time. I don't know what you're studying, or why--degree headed, or for fun?
hey RB how goes it
no,i missed a few things first time around in the education system.now I am back,33 years later so I can meet the requirements for some college classes that interest me
fasta! Old home week! Just finished a new version of Farm Progress Days, went through the I-9o debacle, and now Anita is here for supper and to help! How is my pigeon-chicken?
It was -8 last night. No one has emerged from the coop. :)
and then I will be able to hang my diploma beside my sons;)
anyone else struggling with the be's the way I am?
Crossy, good for you. email me details some time. Rasta, it's freezing here--how go the solar panels? Mimi, you are in my thoughtw, sending vibres.

Going to go straighten up my place a bit. Just wanted to check in to see how you were, crossy.
6 bs still to find when I get back.
Liz, dear, thank you.
Speak later!
waiting on the weather to pour concrete. Too cold. Now thinking we'll trench first, since we have young help coming. But that means it has to be inspected and backfilled before heavy trucks can come in.
I will be fine,mimi:))
remember if it is below 2c to cover the fresh pur on the footing with 4 mil polly
And my sympathy for all of you caught up in the terrible storm back east. What a mess. So goodbye for now and hugs all around.
just looked back in the chat -- be 8,7,6,7 has something to do with dessert?
pour
the concrete will then generate its own heat and cure properly
otherwise,if it falls below minus 3c it may crack as it sets
nothing i have has to do with dessert...
rasta, notice crossy's info! I'm going to go heat freezer surprise for Anita and me now. Poof.
one of the ge words is something you can have for dessert....
well -8 F is -22C. We talked to the concrete guys and they said they could wrap in blankets and use hot water in the mix, but still wouldn't gaurantee it wouldn't crack. And if it cracks it won't pass inspection and we have o pull them and start over. Monday is forecast an over night low of only 28F which is -2C and that seems pourable.
mm,at minus 22 c,you have to tarp it all in and heat with propane torches(salamander heaters)
-2 is very purable, minus 22 is not without lots of tarps and heat
a clue for the be 7.8.6.7 series, please?
and will you have a 24 hour pour window at -2c?
Yes. Hence we are waiting for Monday (next week) but looking for other stuff we might do in the meantime to move the project along :)
the last two 6/7 be words build on a four letter se word...
crossy hates pouring concrete in winter
I have seen to many cracked basement walls
su 7/32 please
It was not our original plan. But the ^%*&%$ power co and county sat on our permits for months.
oh,i know that feeling!
sorry, annie...don't have it...
ty pen
thanks, pen
yw
keep wanting besiege
when I was in construction, permits for a new build were 10 dollars per thousand of value,BUT renovation permits were 5 dollars per thousand,so we would leabve the original structure standing, hand have an ajoining door or shared water/ydro suppy,do the entire new build, pass inspection than just tear down the old building a month later lol
have
hydro**
then*
su + prong on the head of a moose: an****; pl
ty,o-o
lol. I don't know what the permit costs to be honest, the contractor bundled it all in the quote.
ty, o-o...
o-o, I swear I tried that...thanks!
ahh,that is well then
But I don't think it was much in the scheme of things
we had 4 million dollar builds so ti helped a lot;))
we have to use a contractor to get the tax rebate of 30% so no point doing it ourselves, esp with the serious electrical stuff
indeed, plumbing and electric MUST be subbed out
otherwise it is a nightmare
well, dh can do plumbing and electric (marine engineer) but not licensed with the state so it'd be a bear geting it authorized,
yup
need that license
Coast Guard license isn't recognize
So he can do all the wiring on 500' ships, with engines whose pistons are the size of 55 gallon drums, but not this little solar array lol
oh well I'm happy to leave it to them. Wish he hadn't volunteered us for the digging to save a few shekels. It's been hell, and only geting worse
digging out the trenches for the footing is a pita
you could rent a mini kaboda excavator for a day
Yes. We are on moraine so giant rocks.
here,we MUST be 4 feet or more in depth and 2 feet wide or better for footingds
and that is a lot of dirt
we got the giant auger for the footings and it didn't help much. We're getting a super trencher for the trench, don't expect much help from that either. I posted pix on FB, go friend me and you can see them
oh,so you are making fotting pads and using the round saunet tubes then
footing
We were originally supposed to go 5 feet x 1'diameter with 10 footings. Told the engineer 5 ft was impossible. So we have 3 ft but 18 footings
did they ask for rebar?
yes, I suppose that's what those cardboard tubes are?
yes, rebar
yes,the round carboard tubes
We do get 85-100mph winds, we don't want it to sail away
sometimes.

don't know who was here earlier when i mentioned i was having a 2nd interview for a job in Taiwan... or who knows about it already
That's fantastic Rows. When's the interview?
anyway it went really well and they have just asked me to send a demo video of my teaching, and basically as long as they don't see anything wrong with the video, it sounds like they will offer me a job :D
i had it this afternoon :)
Awesome - good luck. When will they let you know?
WOW! that is GREAT news, Rows!
Have you got a teaching demo vid?
Hi stid :)
keeping fingers and toes crossed for you Rows.
thanks! stidmama, i have to send them my demo video first, and then they said they'd talk with me about the lesson i demoed and how it went, etc.
so i'm expecting it will be a few weeks or so at least before i know if i have the job
but i'm already pretty sure i will get it :)
i have to take a video still... could probably do that this week in my class
Thank goodness I never had one of me teaching! Would hate to have to watch myself! So, you can set up a lesson, which you'll really enjoy and know that the kids will be at their most responsive.
4th st6/18?
but it is nerve-wracking... i hate watching videos of myself teaching!
but yes, of course i will select the best lesson or best part of the video to show them
st 6 / 18 - st + consonant + wriggly double voweled fish type creature.
;) Rows!
I like watching videos, just wish it were allowable to edit them a bit. :-)
thanks again, Liz
You'll do great!
We've got every confidence in you.
thanks :)
Back after lunch for the final 46! Enjoy your evenings.

I'm still trying to work out what twerkikng is. Is is wiggling your butt about on camera?
I could ask the question if I could still type correctly.
Yes, twerking is still a bit of a mystery to me. Forgive me! It took 2 photos and an explanation from my daughter when she was doin her world travel thing that 'planking' wasn't some kind of porno thing! lol
Talkikng to myself, I think. So no clues needed.
