yes, dear. my GP. please pray that i can convince her just how much i need the pain meds. as i increase my activity levels, of course i am going to need more. even so, she should be pleased. i have used 40 less tablets than she thought i would need for the 4 weeks

oh, and pugs? i have posted a photo of claudia in her new tutu. she starts her ballet lessons on saturday. and she has been put up into the swimming class for 4-5 year olds.

when i originally had the total knee replacement done in 2012, right on the 5 months mark, i woke up, and didn't need any strong pain meds.

i think acupuncture is only going to work for chronic pain. if i was to have it now, i would need workcover approval first. and i am planning on coming down within the next month or so, anyway. which is how long it will probably take for workcover to approve acupuncture.
don't forget, sweetheart. i am one very tough cookie. and i am definitely not going to let a drug take over MY life.

once i start hydrotherapy, my pain levels will fall dramatically. i will probably only need the slow-release meds in the mornings when i have hydrotherapy. at least that is what happened last time. and this time, the pain is so much better.

So in this case, the stuff a thief has stolen can be made from both Ls. But because of the rule, the word only counts from the top L, since that is the first L you encounter.

yes, but think of e-smokes as a temporary measure only and something that you should totally dispose of after 6 months or so

ivesy, when the mrs and I quit, in 2002, smokes were $7.50 a pack, so each day we both put the price of a pack of smokes into a jar. we did not touch that jar for 2 years. In may of 2004, I sat down and added it all up...
nowadays, i have no feelings either way. smoking cigs near me does not stir a craving,nor does it stir a disgust. it is just a nothing.
it came to $12,160.00 and I bought our brand new Toyota echo in may of 2004 with it...cash

Yep, Bea. I couldn't even do them over again that day...had to wait until Sunday when I'd calmed down and stopped (mostly) beating myself up. The good news is it's easy to do them over, as the voice files are all still there....could have been worse.
rest well, ruby. UGH Mimi, that is so frustrating. Check to see if your word processing program has autosave on it. but saving your work every 5 minutes is a good rule of thumb.
There's supposed to be a way to find unsaved documents but when I clicked on that, nothing was there. Can I install autosave myself, dawg? Molly will know how to do that......Molly......help.
what word processing program are you using?
In Microsoft Word click TOOLS, then OPTIONS then click on the SAVE tab. The box that says SAVE AUTO RECOVER INFO EVERY TIME should be checked. You can choose how often you want it to save (every 10 minutes, for example)
Microsoft Word...Word Documents. The lady I work for said you just have to go into Microsoft Office somehow and it will be there....I should try and see if they're all there.
My son told me to do that, Molly, but when I have Word Document up, there is no TOOLS anywhere at the top, just text options (font, etc.) I must be looking in the wrong place. Can you have word documents available without activating Microsoft Office first? This computer came with it already installed somehow so I have no key to enter when Office asks for it......how obvious is it I've never taken a computer class?!!
mimi, are you sure it's WORD and not WORKS? works is more of a notepad program. no bells or whistles just straight typing.

I think you're right, Molly...should spring for Office. I just bought a new program for playing the audio for my reports and it saves me at least an hour a day over the one I was using that my boss had paid for...worth the money. So much better quality and ease of use. Through a company called Transcription Gear....really great place.

The bitter apple is to spray on my silk palm trees that I have on my balcony patio so one of my cats won't' chew on the fake fronds....driving me NUTS.

Ruru, you should see this patio now. It's my little tropical oasis. Enclosed on 3 sides with a roof and I'm upstairs. I have alternated palm trees and lattice panels all the way across the open part so I can't see my neighbors as well now but the top is still open so I can see my beautiful sunsets. I have solar lights in the trees as well as light stakes which automatically come on at dusk and shut off when the sun starts shining in the morning. At night it looks like the lights are floating in air. Making me SOOO happy!

Usually I do all sorts of picking up and putting away when getting ready for bed; (put all dishes in the dishwasher, clean up the kitchen, pick up any toys laying around, get the coffee pot ready to turn on in the AM, pick up stuff that is laying around, etc) and I didn't do that last night. My house was a disaster this morning; it looked like a tornado hit it!

not the best, jes. He's been battling a relapse in his MS for over a month, and even the "big guns" steroids aren't reversing this bout. It's very wearing on all of us.

MS is such a horrid disease :(
He's been diagnosed for 26 years and has done very well; I often think how lucky he is that there are so many different meds that work these days. (His mother had MS and died in 1976 at age 52. There weren't any meds for it back then)
Isn't there a similar disease in some animals, jes?

Nef, I so agree with your comment on Hospice. I worked in HH/Hospice for 15 years and that was what I saw. Our society puts too much into this "valiant fight with cancer". There are times when fighting is just not uplifting to quality or quantity of life. Families, pateints and health care providers are too afraid to really discuss options. And few really realize of what benefit Hospice can be.

Hang in there Jes, it does get better. It is hard to watch our children fail or ignore our advice, but they do learn and hopefully without too serious of consequences.
Thankfully, our eldest did join Coast Guard instead of heading right into college (he'd have flunked out). My mom had a hissy with her grandson not going to college, now she realizes what an appropriate choice. He learned responsibility. AND he feels all HS grads should go through a bootcamp experience-he said all would benefit from it.
I finally told Frank's Aunt Jean that it was "Palliative Care" so that she would agree to the comfort measures of Hospice. (she had end-stage heart failure and died of it; but she got comfort from the Hospice/Palliative Care for 2 months at the end.
sorry popped out for a few. Nef, much of the public think hospice is only for dying not for making the remainder of your life better. We had a patient at the hospital I was working at. She was 70 some years old 6 or so months into a stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis, which she did not want to do anything about and wasn't in hospice yet. She did go with hospice during that stay, but she was already 6 or so months closer to death.
I dearly wish Hospice didn't come with that 6 month terminality thing
Here we see that Palliative Care is being better-received than Hospice

a doc must certify that (with a certain amount of reasonable accuracy) you have 6 months life expectancy. If you pass that, they can recertify for another 6 months, if you pass that, they can permanently certify
however, you have to be declining... if you improve, and pass the recert time, they may choose not to reenroll you
there are worse things than being kicked out of hospice

Back in the early 70's when I was a county health nurse, we had to assess our patients every 2 months to continue Medicare/Medical assistance coverage. If we wrote our reports so that the patient was declining, they'd be kicked off our files "because they belonged in a nursing home" or if we made them sound too healthy, they'd be kicked off food that too! We always had to make the reports so that the patient was doing better in this area but doing worse in a different area!

yes, it is, kje. And the number of people who do abuse it isn't very large(the # of patients, that is) but those that do abuse the system really do gouge it a lot!
With Home Health under Medicare it all focuses on homebound and sufficient progress with documented goals to improve deficits
LOL...there were those that would improve and leave hospice we called them Hospice flunkies.
the abuses aren't so much patients (they can't be enrolled without clinicians), but the clinicians who commit fraud
And nef, HCP has to certify an expected 6 mos or less terminality, with some strict exeptions for palliative care. But that's pretty nebulous, it's God's call and many lived beyond that with Hospice
there was a HUGE case in Dallas when I was there with a privately owned health care agency. we had known the doc was committing fraud for a long time before Medicare finally got the data to convict him... I forget how many millions of dollars
yes, Jilly, but you know that some people do very well for years at home with maybe med checks and BP checks and someone just doing a few things for them. But if no one is checking on them, they do deteriorate and then are a much larger financial burden (i.e.: in long term care, etc.)

there is lots we can do to lessen cost, but the way the system is, it is easy to cost shift so that there is no incentive to develop the best systems for patients and outcomes - each pot is a different set of money - hospital, nursing home, rehab, home care, clinics
In my early days in HH, Medicare covered regular blood tests for med management with things like Coumadin and Dig, that way we could put in a 2-3 X week bath aide who in turn could check med boxes we would fill monthly. Balanced Budget Act of 1997 changed all that.

And KJE, I spent time in Utilzation Review for our agency. It is far easier to obtain SS numbers and create patients that meet criteria than to document same with real patients. You see that most in larger suburban areas.
and that is an example... would be cheaper to send a RN out to do that, but instead, we schedule a doc visit at the time blood is needed and they get charged for a doc visit instead, which is must more costly
Oh, that and they covered pedicures by a nurse monthly.

we have a podiatrist that does house calls, psychiatrist, audiologist - so much van be done in the home at cheaper cost, but the issue is that it is more susceptible to fraud for some reason.... why don't the same people pick on clinics and make up patients there rather than at home, thus screwing it up for patients who have no alternatives
