for instance, in most bibles the word is thanks, or thanks-giving only. but via the concordance i found out that there are at least 7 different words used which have been translated as thanks and thanks-giving.
wow rose, that is interesting. I remember a wise man here telling me that sometimes very important words are just left out as well. Like with blessings. Originally it says something like: "He laid on his hands and breathed" and then they translate just "He laid on his hands."

There are lots of bad things associated with prostitution - forcement, drugs etc, but if somebody does it off their own back (so to speak) and is happy to do it of their own free will then good for them! I'm ashamed to say I've been a smoker now for 27 years. I actually estimated recently that in my lifetime I've smoked somewhere in the region of 250,000 cigarettes. Isn't that disgusting???

Most doctors nowadays agree that if you quit smoking then within around 7 to 8 months your body will have totally repaired any damage caused, as long as the damage isn't permanent, i.e cancerous. I don't know whether I believe them, but it's something to have faith in I suppose
I guess I smoke about 40 a day then
Mind you, my aunt Kathy smoked around 60 ciggies a day for over 50 years and lived until she was 96 with only a touch of emphasima in the winter months
i don't know if this is true either but i've heard that the odds of dying are higher in the year after you quit.

She ended up losing her marbles. She was put into a mental institution at the age of 94 and spent the last 2 years crawling on the floor barking. I once went to see her, unaware of this development, and ran out of the building crying my leg off. I hate what nature can do sometimes. She was an amazing woman in her time, too. She was decorated for her nurse work in the field during WWII. And then she ends up like that. Bloody cruel

oh, worzel, that is so sad. i had a great aunt who died from alzheimer's. she was a marvellous lady, head of the ikebana society here in melbourne, well-travelled. but in her final days, she would strip herself, climb over the cot-sides of her bed, and run down the corridor starkers.

It was around 15 years ago now and thankfully the good memories I have of her shine through stronger than the bad ones. My adoptive Mum went at 67 to a mental disorder, too. She had a urine infection that affected her brain. There were days she was fine, and others when she would just sit there staring at me as if to say "I recognise your face but don't know who you are". That was 9 years ago now and the bad memories of that STILL outweigh the good memories. That still hurts me to this day, wondering if there is anything I could have done to make her happier in her last days
I worked with alzheimer patients and I feel so bad for their families towards the end when they dont know them--so hard on every one

dogs are such a blessing aren't they? you ladies are so fortunate. don says he won't have another dog/cat as a pet when there are too many children are starving. it's no judgement on people who have pets, it's a simple statement of how he feels.

My elder daughter is leaving home in 2 weeks. She has a degree in Science, and was offered a position in the Irish Police Force (An Garda Siochana). The following day, she was offered a job as a rep for a pharmaceutical company in the UK. The rep job comes with a brand new Audi, a company credit card, and a very respectable salary. She turned down the police! She leaves in 2 weeks. I'm a bit sad, but very very happy for her. Thats 2 out of my three working in the UK.

I know that, Molls. Jeepers, there are factories and businesses closing down here every day, due to lack of finance from banks. Its just curtains for anybody over 40. I moan and whinge about my job, but, behind it all, I am very grateful for it.
When I get rich, I'm going to start a company that only hires people over 40.

I lost my job 2 years ago, I was 54. Couldn't find another job to save my life. Luckily I could take some of my pension to live on after unemployment ran out. Now I am on disability but still allowed to earn money part time, I do some online writing.

Twice a year for the past 4 or 5 years, there have been 'job expos' held in Dublin for positions in Canada. Queues of up to 3 hours have been formed by people trying to get in to the expo.

It's a holiday weekend here. The weather forecast is good (by good, I mean that no rain is predicted), I am looking at three days off work. Yay. All is good with the world.

Discussing the job market isn't whining! It's rough everywhere; not so rosy here either. Young people are pressured to get an education, incur a lot of debt doing so, and then can't find jobs when they graduate, except at McDonald's if they're lucky.
Oh, the bum is always with you. Just because you don't look back, doesn't mean it isn't there.

Much and all as I complain about what goes on in this country, I must admit that education is given top priority here. University education is free to all. No kid has to take on bank loans to be educated. (Their parents are persecuted and taxed within an inch of their lives, but education is still mercifully free).

Back. Murphy went through almost all of his games. We are going to work on him standing and me walking around him as we do when he is down.

That makes it easy and fun then. I had to go buy dog and cat food today; and the person giving a talk there said that the average dog needed 60-90 minutes of activity / day. All I could think of was that our dogs mustn't be dogs then (
(we've onlly had 2 dogs in the past 20 years; they've lived to respectable ages; but neither one played more than 10-15 minutes per day. They didn't sleep all day, but they sure nap a lot!
Murphy has an hour-long walk in the morning with my husband. He also plays fetch (he's a retriever). He certainly likes his cushion in the living room for napping.
Well, ours were (& are) little Shiz-poo and weighed 10-11 lbs. They follow us everywhere, our present one loves kids and won't let my grandson out of his sight the whole time Ronald is here
