Good morning from Cleveland, Ohio!
hi there melon
hey.
I'm home from a big trip.
well do tell
My son and I were in Tel Aviv for a week for the wedding of my neighbor's son. Now, if I'm going to travel that far, of course I will stop somewhere on the way home. That would be 6 nights in Paris.
and. . . I met a fellower Babbler irl in TLV (:
sounds fabulous!!!!
sweet! babblemeet ups are always a bonus
best of all is simply that my son is well enough to make this trip. He is diagnosed with schizophrenia, and the right meds, the right therapy, and superb case management has made a trip that would have been impossible four years ago a reality. He was a wonderful traveling companion.
my Babble bud took me to see the Israeli Philharmonic, my dream orchestra!
excellent, and fantastic for him as well...
that sounds absolutely heavenly. I adore the orchestra.. even mediocre ones.
I cried thre times: when the plane touched down at Ben Gurion airport, at the Pride parade in Paris, and on the plane coming home to think that we did this!
I did not cry when I smooched my hot Parisian waiter (;
BWAHAHAHA cute
I'm a retired bassist. Even tho I'm from CLE, the IPO and the Met Opera were my two "dream" orchestras. I ended up a second-chair bassist in a pit orchestra here in Cleveland.
i used to play bass as well 7 years. I couldn't continue bc i would need to buy one at the time and could not afford
I only ever played in school but our full orchestra travelled, new york, philiadelphia, boston, dc which was pretty cool for a HS orchestra
Another bassist! XXXOOO
I just uploaded the picture of me and the waiter onto my profile.
Wow, your HS orch went everywhere.
yea... that ws a fantastic experience. it was a remarkable group of students... considering the city my school went to was average size... again.. just HS but first chair
city my school was in *
ok.. my eyes are super sore as the air is drier... I need to put some compresses on them... glad you had a great trip Melon... back in a bit
I got my two degrees in double bass performance, and made about a third of my living playing when I was active. I trained on the job to be a computer programmer for the US Dept of Defense. I am grateful for my "day job" and also glad that is not what I majored in. I chased my dream, and made a living, one way or another (:
Nice chatting, carleekat. XXXOOO

ok, I'm off... hagd all
There were people in the chat earlier who were saying that st 6 & 7 reminded them of American Pie and Archie Bunker, and I've been trying to figure out why ever since.
st 6 and 7....to refrain from arguing
Archie Bunker used to tell his wife Edith to st6/27 herself.
He did? I've watched those shows and I don't remember that at all! Interesting, thanks!
Yep! I don't remember it in American Pie, but then again, not sure I ever saw that entire movie.
sh 6/21, pls
woot, reading the Aubrey/Maturin series really helped with today's grid :-)
Alt spelling of sh***y town, bich
Always nice to meet a fellow sa4or of The Aubreyad, Natasha!
sorry sam, don't understand
it's Sanskrit for inner peace, bichon
I don't understand why it won't take the the first 5 letters of that word, as in "I sh5 do that!"
because that is a contraction Champ
Because that's a contraction
Well thank makes sense. Thx!
yay Samantha! I really struggled to understand all the vocab at first but stuck with it as my dad had loved the series and I was reading it to honor his memory... then I got hooked :-)
ty Natasha
yw all!
Down to 45 and haven't yet looked at Lickety... having fun for once instead of struggling!
There are whole books written just about the vocabulary in those books. "A Sea of Words" is probably the best.
Yes, I have that volume!
But it kind of interrupts the flow of reading to keep looking stuff up, so I often just let things go and figure I'll get the gist
I'm down to 13 and cussing :D
haha the cussing phase, it comes to us all
the clues just now got me down to 15
any clues for the E word for 5th column E? ty.
12
er 4/4, common word here
got it. ty
here's your fish :)
I'm down to seven. Haven't listed yet, just bruteforcing my way through combinations; the monkeys gave up long, long ago

Morning teach!
are there 2 st 6-7 combos? - the one I have means to smother
don't see how that relates to Archie Bunker
go samantha!
what he said to his wife
oh - so there is just the one combo then?
Just the one, yeah
only have the one - but no list yet
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZOTsz\noKbE4 to see Archie say it
I haven't either, but will be soon
one left. an F5
there are only 3 of them, sam
oh - don't have all the f's so maybe not
I have four already, so there must be 5
at least 5 f5
Wait, I have 5 already, so there must be six
only have 2 fl 5's - so must be missing 3
i have 5 F 5s - will look for another
are we talking fl 5's or f5's?
F 5s
all f words w/5 letters. there are 6 of 'em.
i have FE 5 x 2, FI 5, FL 5 x 2
ok - looking for 2 more then
There's five and a phantom, is what I'm pretty convinced of at this point :(
window guy is here - bbl
That's what I have, teach. Someone want to tell us what we're missing?
FINALLY. I listed for one word, but I'm done. See y'all tomorrow!
congrats samantha!

Hello everyone!
Hi Car!
hey car!
good for you peri --- too hot to do much cooking here -- a/c is running full blast and it is summer meals --- potato salad with potatoes cooked the night before, cold cuts and tossed salads
YUM!
lovely day here so far. supposed to go to high 80's later today
better than last week

True!

Hey Carlee!
how are you?
hi hego.. how are you, too?
So happy to be home!!!! Just spent a week in RI taking care of my dad and stepmom. It was very hard.
how are you?
I'm sorry..but RI is nice yes?
oh i am fine... shovelling yet more kale down the gut... but all things considered..good :)
where in RI, car? I'm from Cranston and still have family in Prov
It was very hot and humid...even on the water where they live. Once the humidity broke, it was HEAVENLY!
LOL...How the kale are 'ya?
same here and I am on the water... was dreadful
Portsmouth
actually i like kale but 2ceaday is getting tiresome
YUK!!
Yeah...that's too much kale
Sorry it wasn't more of a pleasure trip Car
2 weeks down only 6 weeks to go
Gak.
It was tough, but I got through it and we made some progress. Whether or not the parents stick to the plan is up to them, but at least we tried.
i like salads... it is all healtthy..so... it is not the rest of my life...
Good luck Car. bbl
hagd Hego!
well hopefuly some good comes from your efforts car
toodles hego
So, today I am home, at my desk, supposed to be catching up on all my transcription work...but I had to get in a game of Babble!!!! They have no wifi there
lettuce all be as health minded
lol
more like healing shir... but yes healthy
we've all bean there with the bad eating
( but i appreciate the puns LOL )
I'm a veg but haven't managed to learn to like kale so I can't imagine eating it all the time for 6 weeks. Hope it works for you car!
babble is good car.
so good.
nat, I find if I chiffonade the leaves prior to however you prepare it, the "toug hness" is gone
Ok...and with 50 left, I shall go now and get some typing done. Wishing you all a blessed day filled with happiness and sunshine <3
I've done that, and macerated in lemon juice... but the essential kale taste remains and I struggle with that. I love nearly all other veggies but that one!
take care car.ee ((huggles))
FW! off to work - have a good day all!
i just chiffonade.. toss in a salad.. cider vinegar salt pepper oil..addd the rest of your veg and some onion... good to go... I really cannot distinguish from other lettuce and spinach when all mixed in

and congrats, nan!
someone was supposed to be coming to install and electronic furnace filter at 10:00 am --- These service people seem to think the people paying them have nothing to do all day! I wonder what would happen if they were docked pay for tardiness?
TY rbud!
tries one's patience, that's for sure. the cable guys here are often like that.
ty rbud -- hagd everyone
nan - i remember when we bought our house...we hadnt even moved in yet, so there was no furniture. the cable company gave us a window over lunchtime for them to come set things up, so there i was with nothing but a folding chair. i was waiting and waiting...my husband got there with the moving truck + told me the guy was sitting in his work van down the street eating his lunch.
yes - and patience was never something I had a lot of :)
you have a point -- the guy is probably on his coffee break!
needless to say, i marched myself down the street and had some words with him. i said that if he couldnt give me the common courtesy of calling me to let me know hed be late (so i could therefore eat MY lunch), then he didnt get to eat his either.
sadly, I think customer service is a thing of the past - doesn't matter what the company is
if YOU miss the appt, you get charged for it regardless. but they can basically do whatever they want. nosiree, i dont think so.
good customer service affects the bottom line and the ceo's and coo's wouldn't get their million dollar bonuses
sorry for the rant -- between the repairs on the house and looking for a new car I'm rather cynical these days.
oh dear. car shopping is a fate worse than death.
i did it when i was pregnant, and i just had to do it again with a toddler in tow. BLERGH.
car shopping is among the worst I agree
can't be blamed for feeling that way, I can so relate. My little truck's been down for at least two months, just getting it to town to be worked on has proven to be an exhausting fruitless effort so far, unless I want to pay a tow service.
the sales people are often on the slimey side
spent a fair amount of time searching for another vehicle, too, but it's so depressing.
do you have AAA rb?
heck, no, that would be a luxury, haha
have multiple friends with car trailers, all too busy. have a car dolly, truck's too big for it.
it's not that much money and it's incredibly useful when needed
when i was 6.5 months pregnant, i spent all those hours in a dealership undergoing renovation with no AC. in July. then, it turns out, the AC in the car they sold me (brand new, BTW) was buggered, so i spent 2 years driving myself + my son in a car with finicky AC. i finally had enough + bit the bullet to trade it in much earlier than i would have after giving them an earful + them agreeing to give me a VERY good deal on a replacement.
about 8 vehicles sitting here, none running or legal, mostly our son's projects. Only running truck I own is hubby's old '71 Chevy, and have been informed it's not safe to drive before some undercarriage work. So there it sits, licensed and insured, and useless. Same story on mine.
Maybe your son could get one of them running so you have something to drive
Need to figure out something by the end of the month, when my truck plate expires. If I end up with a car, will need a different plate, of course.
yes, we go round and round about that, but mostly I wouldn't trust most of them at this point, something peculiar about every one of them he's trying to sort out, haha. He's a barterer, trades for things he thinks he can fix, then... not so much.
plus he considers them "investments" and would expect me to pay something for them, which is okay with me, to an extent, but I'd still rather put that money into my own.
yeah and you should expect to charge him for storing all those wrecks
my truck's problems are electrical/computer module things, not his strong point.
then maybe pay for a tow truc
truck
I'll get it sorted out soon, I hope, but I sure miss the "pull" the old man had and his ability to get stuff done.
most all the helpful folks who said, "anything we can do to help" when he passed away last year have gently faded into the woodwork, it seems
so it goes.
maybe your son can help you get it towed into the shop?
rbud, I learned long ago when I left my husband; rely on no one but yourself to git'r'done bc everyone is busy with their own life to pick up the pieces.
son insists he can get it there no problem, but it seems there's always actually a problem when it comes down to it.
I hear that, car, I'm not bitter and feeling helpless, just tired. Every day some new drama here, my problems just fade to the bottom of the list. Like they always have, since I had kids, lol
not bitter here either... is just a fact of life these days.
off I go, a little window of time to borrow son-in-law's car before he goes to work, carpe auto, bwahaha!
not really car.. I still do things to help my ex all the time
then you are one of the good ones ruru
I'd like to think so... it's been good that we have become friends again after separation and divorce.. hard to do I think In many cases.
I have had zero contact with mine for 6+ years. inc spousal support.
yup
I have no siblings... no parents now... onlymy own 2 feet to stand on... I F*** up.. I have only myself to blame and myself to get mysef out of trouble

*Lake Michigan* I am not in Michigan, the state.
I like righton the lake HK... I canhear the waves from my bedroom... itis HOT today

Awesome!!!!I had a bf, ages ago, who had an apartment right on the lake. Step out on balcony, look down there was the lake, total 180 view. He said the people that lived there before had to move cause they felt like they were living in a washing machine.
bwahahaha that is funny ( if you cruise through my pics on FB you will see loads of pics)
Some people hear washing machines, others hear beautiful nature.
I remember taking a bus through banff to get to my hotel... and someone yelled out.. MY god, you see one mountain you have seen them all.. I am so sick of mountains
That's a strange thing to say, because all mountains have their own unique shape. I was just thinking last night how I would like to see Mt. Fuji in person - so pretty.
yea well... can't please everyone all the time
carlee - that's for sure.
Hello Babblers? Has anyone here heard of, or experienced, Photodynamic Therapy?
Heya lil*m - nope, sorry, not me.
nope..sorry lil.. other than the principles I donot know anyone who has undergone the therapy
I had it today on my legs. It is a treatment for skin cancer. Don't let anyone tell you it doesn't hurt.
I believe I may have screamed out MOTHERF**#%ER a few times.
oh dear. I am sorry :(
I screamed that when I walked back in my house today. How does that work?
well.. dealing with skin cancer.. you are more than entitled to scream out
Yes - exactly what carlee said.
one of my dearest friends has surgery on wed. Mastectomy. but has spread to chest wall. she has a 4 year old and a 1 year old. I'll be away here and there taking care of things for her
she hs the surgery then 6 months of radiation and chemo
oh no, so sad :( I will be sending positive vibes and prayers to her Carlee.
Oh, carlee, may she have the strength to get through it all. You are a good friend!
Hey what is update on the boys in the cave? I haven't heard any news today.
8 out LIL
thanks HK...
*wheeeeeeeeeeee!* Wow that's awesome!
they are restocking the O2 tanks along the route... the rest out tomorrow . pumps have managed to keep the water levels down
That is a re6,27
I would not want to be that coach. I can't imagine the guilt.
yea... poor guy
I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't come out of the cave.
that was my thought Lil... I just didnt want to voice it
I have already heard that he says he will insist all the boys come out first

I'm awesome!!! LOVE retirement.
I think of you every time I go to Lancaster
Doing pretty good except my legs are killing me, I had photodynamic therapy today for skin cancer. Feels like I have been blasted with a blowtorch.
I know! We had such a blast on the Amish tour!
OMG!!! basal cell?
Squamous, and lots of em!
DAMN!!
too much sun, Monkey!

Yes but can't change the past. I lived in Hawaii , and then I lived in Cape Hatteras all those years.
I am really careful now too

Yes me too
Oh wow! Where were they?
4 on my face; 1 on my ankle
I hope you won't have more!
Now that I know what to look for, if I see anything suspicious I immediately go to the derm and have them freeze it!
What is photodynamic therapy?

WOOHOO YPSIGIRL!!
Fireworks for me too. :)
WOo hooooooOO
You can google it, they put a solution on your skin and let it percolate for about 2 hours, then shine a special light (it's called BLU light) on your skin.
It is to eradicate the lesions.
It feels like blowtorching and needles stabbing. REally pleasant
OMG!
I go, back in 4 weeks for the next session.
More? YIKES!!
Yes and that should be it. Just 2 sessions. Compared to other cancers where you have to get chemo and radiation, I feel lucky.
True
Do you have any trips planned? I will be taking my mom to New Milford Connecticut for a memorial service beginning of Sept.
We might go to the Jersey shore too.
Most of my family are going to DisneyWorld in the Fall
I have so much to do here since I had two rooms redone. LOTS of stuff to go through and really need to downsize!!
I bought one of those "cluster" houses like where you & I stayed with your friend. I move end of August.
You should come for a visit!
GOOD FOR YOU!!!

not necessarily, your brain has to make a pttern.. thenthe words start to come. It didn't look to friendly to me in the fiorast few minutes..

Maybe the last 30 are strange words?
What else can they be? lol
LOL, no clue! 85 tjo go here, so I'm too close to start to worry about the weird ones was getting red boxes here and slow input uptake. Hopefully better now...
TK - are you STILL having connection issues?
comaes and goes. worse in hot or humid temps and afternoon/early evening. landlord is going to come up when I'm ready to finish the wifi upgrade. It should be better soon. I'll probably have him come up tomorrow. I can soldier on for now.
'comaes & goes' lol - your computer is in a coma :)
LOL.. that's me. Can't blame that on the PC...
Sorry, I had to catch that last bit of Penn & Teller - I heart them, have since they started. Way, way back. At the Shubert, after their show they met with people in the lobby, just chatting. I'm always one of the very last to leave, soaking it all in. So lobby was pretty empty by time we got there & my date & I had a nice 20 minute conversation with both of them. Not only does Teller talk (duh), he's the sweetest guy - now Penn is 63 or 64 & Teller is 70! Time marches on.
Wow... I like them too, but have never seen them live. what a time you must have had :) lucky lady!
I still remember many of the tricks they did, because they explain them. They re-did one recently on their show - it's a great bit, Teller standing in silhouette, lighting a cigarette, then it disappears . . . It's not your average joe magic act - although I like those too.
I might have to do some you tube surfing later.. if I can get through this grid!
watching the President's announcement about the Supreme Court nominee
yt surfing for me - once it starts, hard to stop, one thing leads to another.
Cavanaugh
Hi jane :) Not really familliar with the short list... is he the best of a bad lot?
Kavanaugh (misspelled a minute ago)
This is what my concern is, so here goes: In a 2009 law review article, Kavanaugh said his experience in the White House persuaded him that "the job of president is far more difficult than any other civilian position in government" and that presidents should be exempt from civil lawsuits and criminal investigations or prosecutions while in office. But he wrote that such a change would require Congress to pass appropriate legislation. Even if that happened, he wrote, the Constitution would provide a check against a law breaker in the Oval Office. "If the president does something dastardly, the impeachment process is available," Kavanaugh wrote.
found another fish
Well, that is concerning...at the very least, raising the bar on what is considered dastardly? Hooray for fish jane!
Then again, many people change their views over time, so a 9 year old quote probably doesn't mean much.
I honestly haven't been following the process too closely. I figured we will hear all sorts of dirt and compliments as he goes through the confirmation process.
thiefthief
well, it is likely more accurate than when young and fresh...

Hello? Looks like I may have missed the chatters
Hi Nef. I'm here if you need clues.
Hi Jacula. It seems I rarely finish grids anymore; but it doesn't bother me either anymore.
(I just can't understand how there are so many words in such a strange grid!)
(I'm currently working on that bottom row R)
I like to finish them Nef, but sometimes don't achieve it.
Let me know if/when you need a clue or the stats.
Thank you. I will do that. How are you doing these days? Is your fellow still on the road so much? (I think I remember he drove trucks?)
Yes, you remember rightly. He's still on the road all week. We're both fine, thanks. How about you? What's been going on in your life since we last spoke?
My Dh went through numerous illnesses & hsopitalizations during 2016; so I asked my divorced son & his son to move in with us to help me (he works from home anyway) because when DH fell; I had to call 911 to help me get him up off the floor (he has MS, IDK if you remember that).
Now I'm ready to have them move out; but I think we have to move to some sort of senior housing /assisted living place because I can't manage the house, yard, and shoveling snow all the time myself.
That's the biggest thing. And my 9 year old (& only) grandson just got his Black Belt in TaeKwonDo last month! < busting my buttons with pride on that!>
Yes, I do remember your O/H was ill. I do feel for you and understand why assisted living might be necessary. It's really hard to get someone up when they fall, especially if they can't really assist you in any way. I remember trying to get my father up the stairs after a late-night call from my Mum. He wasn't a tall or heavy man, but he was a dead weight when his dementia made him not want to help. :(
Well done to your grandson!
Also, Nef, we often take a property on either as a couple who will split the jobs or when we're younger and have the health and the energy to cope. Time can change all of these things. :(
My hubby has always weighed around 240- 250 lbs (I think that's around 113 kg); he's always had very muscular legs and body. so when he's a "dead weight"; he's pretty difficult to move!
Yeah, you're right. :-( I've had arthritis since I was a teenager & have had several joints fixed or replaced over the years; it's tougher to try to do everything at this point of my life.
I, being old-fashioned, had to convert his weight to stones and pounds. (I don't 'do' kilograms.) 17 and a half stone, almost 18 stone would be impossible to lift. I think my Dad had gone down to about 9 and a half stone when I was trying to lug him up the stairs.
Nef - both me and my other half lament the loss of bodily strength as we get older. We often wish we could go into a body shop and get new parts like cars do.
I don't understand stones for weight! It's such a strange way to weigh things!
Nef - 14lbs = 1 stone.
I've lost 9lbs (that's over half a stone) during this hot weather in the UK.
LOL, Jacula! You can get new parts for your body; you just can't have all new pieces for all of yuor parts! I have replacement parts for a foot, a knee, a hip, and both hands now! :-D
Jacula and Nef!!!! Hello :)
You guys are really suffering from the heat, aren't you? Here in the US,we have insulation in most of our houses (which helps in the winter *and* summer, then I was talking to a friend in London & she said that they don't have a/c nor do they have ceiling fans!
We have your POTUS visiting on Friday 13th. Our Queen didn't attend her latest great-grandchild's Christening due to having a busy week, including having to greet him. If she had the choice, I bet I know where she'd rather have been.
Hi Kate! How are you?
Hi Kate.
Jacula, I read about the Trump baby blimp ballon! I think that that is hilarious!
Nef - no we don't have a/c or ceiling fans as standard here in UK. Don't usually need them! Re new body parts - yes, I have a bungee cord and a pin holding my right collar bone in place after I dislocated it falling backwards down the stairs 3 years ago.
Ouch! That wasn't fun I bet!
Doing well nef. I'll lurk and leave you to catch up with Jackers :)
You don't have to lurk, Kate; join in!
Trump blimp - to be honest I don't think flying that is a dignified way to go, though the idea made me laugh. I think it cost 18K, which could be better spent. The Government (what's left of it after yesterday) have demanded a huge police presence for his visit, knowing how many protests there will be. Thing is, they've cut police budgets so much, the police aren't keen to provide it because they feel they might be needed for more important emergencies elsewhere.
(we can discuss any topic at all, not just our newer body parts!)
Kate - please stay because I have to go soon.x
Loz wasn't at Louis' christening? That's a shame :( Bet she's miffed about that. (I can hear her mumbling "that dreadful man...")
Kate - I bet she's miffed. I would be if I was her.
the blimp was crowd-funded (from what I read); And he travels with a huge contingent of Secret Service men too....
Jacula, the blimp was privately paid for and there was crowd funding to pay for the helium to folat it for the big day. As protests go, i rather like the idea, can be seen by a lot more than little sign ever would. It may be undignified, but hey....look at intended target :)
He is such a stupid man; I really think he pulled (& is still pulling!) to wool over so many people's eyes here.
Well, I see she has managed to make sure htere is NO state dinner... that's her dig. She will give him the politest short shrift and "bum's rush he's ever seen. I do admire her so.
Go Queen E! Good One for you!
Why do youhave to go Jacula? After all, it's morning now ;)
Crowd-funded or privately funded, but it could have gone towards helping the homeless (of which there are too many) or towards a much better cause. Any cause other than trying to insult a brain-dead idiot who is so sure he's a hero that he's bombproof re insults of any kind.
