backbone with an L thrown in
It's my last word in this grid, quess I'll just have to finish this in the morning.
tyvm Jayk
Okay, ae7? Wow
Gee - ae7, how?!
Not a word I have seen before. If it has been in grids, I don't remember it.
Eep. May I have a nudge, please?
It ends with the last three of the French phrase for assistant cook
Tx for eo8.....what a word!
Yeah, the eo8 is another oddball
It would have been fun to try and find it on my own, but the clue was right there when I opened up the chat. I didn't realize flip calling was still going on. I usually hide chat for that.
Yarp. Weird word. Thanks
I only know a three letter word for an assistant cook. hmmm
It is not a French word. It is a two word phrase and the first word is French.
French word for assistant?
hmmm I always thought that was assistante
monkeyed it. still no idea about the clue LOL
Okay, let us get away from French. Last three of g7, a word describing someone who gives to charity, or who gives to others frequently and in large amounts.
If someone gives you a large portion of food, you might also refer to it as g7
Sous chef
we
we have had this word before
what a lot of people are at the moment if they are sunbathing during locldown
eelpie should clearly be a word
ugh..
does it come with a moray sauce?
definitely with a conger line
of course i had to say that these recent grids have been easy.. then this sucker pops up
you should look sheepish. thats a clue
had that one :D i always see that one
noir
of course you do. you should definitely look sheepish then!
ususally i find it by shear luck
because you have a woolly mind?
well i've always said ata if you can't bleat them join them

That is a baaaaaaaad joke

lol tell me about it
this grid is terrible
its not that bad. yet ...!
apart from the Es
and the scientific names of fish which aren't accetable and clearly should be
i have all the e's now
missing a bunch of o's and s's and m's
I have none so far :)
Who is still here?
Me!
Hi Une. How are Sierra and her puppies doing?
They're doing great!
Excellent.
BRB.....heading to local grocery geezer hour :-)
Haha.
Hi all. Am I being thick...I can't see ANY of the 6 Os in the last column? May I have a stat or two please?
or 4/4 ... but you're not being thick ... that's the only one I've foiund
This grid is brutal! In all the Es and Os, I’ve found...one word.
Thanks! How are you?
... eo 5/6 ... eo + trig ratio ... twice
Does anyone have stats for the E in the second column, top row, please?
ee5/10
el 5/12, a common word in crossword puzzles; a type of resin
ty welki
apologies, you just asked for stats
It's ok - I'm not doing terribly well on this grid anyway :)
woo foundn a 7
Woot! Woot! Look at all the vowels!
14 o'dem
Or 15 for those who can count properly
nbt :)
... plus the sometimes vowel
I don't count sometimes
There are three kinds of people in the world. Those who can count and those who can't.
Right on Sam
There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't ;)
halfway! going to prep class - later all!
so many I's and E's, none of them in the right spots
morning all!
Morning, Dan.
Is it me, or is this a tough little grid?
It's tough. All the vowels.
not just you
Whew. I'm not going loopy ;)
Howzit, neighbors?
I'm good - not even halfway, though, and stuck!
This grid looks evil.
Now I'm exactly halfway, but it's really slow going
Morning, Judi.
We had another freeze warning last night. What the hell is up with freeze warnings in April? This is not Canada.
I don't know if we did or not. I did not cover my plants though.
Bea, I have discovered a blight on my tomatoes.
Yeah. It was 37 when I look at the thermometer this a.m. Got down to 34 last night. April is March. March was April. Its a mad, masked world I say.
Too much water?
Are they in containers, Carla?
maybe? haven't had that much rain and have only watered them a couple of times. Mr. homie said when he took the sheet off one morning after a freeze warning the leaves were all wet.
they are in big raised beds
he has to go to lowe's later so I'm going to have him get some fungicide that I read you need for this.
Judi and Molly, How much is gasoline up your way?
Carla, I went to a local nursery Monday and bought lots and lots of flowers.
nice. I was going to go today or tomorrow back to my nearby farm stand and get some squash plants
I am finding this grid incredibly difficult.
did find the fable writer or collector, but that doesn't help
Time to get back to my project. Probable won't finish this one today. 44 left in the bucket. See y'all tomorrow. *PEUFF*
Bea, $2.10 to $2.25 for regular unleaded.
I understand you guys are below two dollars a gallon. No demand, no one is going anywhere.
It is $1.71 here.
I haven't even been near a gas station to look.
I have to drive by several when I go out for groceries.
I lie, I drove by 2 on the way to walmart Mon but didn't look
The cold weather has me grumpy. So does having to garb up like a surgeon to go into a store.
Carla, I was sewing yesterday and thought I needed to remind you to clean out the bobbin area of your machine.
But the white dogwood blossoms are shining against the blue sky... and the lilac lasts longer in cooler temps.
My boss is also making me grumpy, complaining about what a "pain in the ass" the virus restrictions are to him and his money making machine.
Ooo, I love lilac.
:D, thank you. I do that pretty regularly, but I just got a shipment from my LQS yesterday and had ordered these little cleaning brushes so I will use one of those on all my machines later.
So do I
I love lilacs.
have not used my serger or coverstitch since this started!
Do you have a Little Purple Thang?
Local Quilting Store?
Waiting for May when the lilacs bloom
but I did incorporate my industrial straight stitch back into my sewing rooms after getting it out for my son to use
yes, Local Quilting Store
they were doing curbside and then quit and of course the day after I ordered they went back to curbside pickup. it is only 10 min from my house.
*Is busy looking up all the sewing lingo
I have 2 little purple thangs! love it. broke the curved tip off one though
what I was most excited about in my shipment yesterday is an electric seam ripper.
I have several of them. I'm always getting mine caught under the needle.
I finished making masks for a bit. Started digging around and found a couple small projects that will be easy to complete.
working on a quilt for my mom for mother's day.
good morning everyone - it is so nice to look out my window and see all the tulips and narcissus in bloom :) Now all we need is a little rain.
I decided I was finished making masks, then I ran into a friend neighbor at walmart and she was texting me this morning to get me to make some. I have 2 left already made but no more elastic so I told her I'd have to make ties or rig something else.
hi nan
Had a terrible thought yesterday - hope this doesnt end too soon I've got so much to do!! Then I thought hang on I'm retired I can stay in any time I want!!
have the same problem, carla - ran out of elastic yesterday
Deeha, I have thought the same thing.
Haha, deeha. I've been saying this is really not that different from my normal life. and I still have a thousand unfinished projects to do.
I never used elastic on any of mine.
I used some ribbon for ties on mine and the top one was a little short so I sewed a little leftover bit of elastic in the middle and just tie the bottom
I really dislike making straps and ties, bea
I probably made 5 miles of straps...
good idea - ribbon and elastic - and I do have some grosgrain ribbon and short pieces of elastic!
Friend and I have made 60 scrubs bags, 30 little knitted things to hooks masks onto and 30 headbands. Now out of fabric, cotton and elastic!
I have a ton of FOE (fold over elastic) in different colors and patterns but it's like 1/2" or 5/8" and just didn't work right. I may try to fold it in half and zig zag it.
I still have a LOT of fabric. I might have a problem.
I did make some masks for the grands. I got the elastic sports headbands and cut those to use for their earpiece.
does anyone have stats for the 8 please? my only blank stat
hmm, I do have some of those, but I wear them.
I don't even have a 7, nan. can't get to halfway. this is not my day.
I KNOW I have a problem. There are 15 large totes of fabric in my sewing room.
nan, it is eo8.45
I gave away most of the fabric I had when we down sized
ty bea -- have the eo 5-6 - will keep looking
most of my cotton is fat quarters, but I have so much knit fabric and patterns I could make something new every day for a month and get rid of all my current wardrobe
That 8 ends in a heap. =)
most of mine is in an IKEA bookcase with glass doors, then I have various boxes and drawers filled as well.
Well, I worked in a quilt shop for several years and I inherited some of my moms.
now my scraps box is full again. need to find another project to stuff.
I make rugs out of my scraps.
sounds too time consuming :D
It gets tedious, but I work on them a bit at time.
Friend and I have made 60 scrubs bags, 30 little knitted things to hooks masks onto and 30 headbands. Now out of fabric, cotton and elastic!
spone
I usually do it when have a problem I'm trying work out. Doesn't take any thought.
oops lucky it was a word I mde up. Sorry
That is excellent, Deeha.
ty bea -- took me a while to figure out which e to use
finally made it too halfway. think I will go work on the puzzle for a while. we started a brand new 1000 piece the other night, just opened it for the first time ever, and there is a piece of sky missing.
maybe the sky fell down beside your chair cushion?
we have looked in the box, on the floor, everywhere
It will show up...or not.
I did crossword puzzles the night I was in labor
The sky is falling, the sky is falling
I have 50 words left and can not imagine where they would be.
there are a couple of others that seem obvious due to shape and pattern but we can't find. we'll see if any of them turn up! hoping to finish today. we've found that our dining room light isn't good enough for us to work at night
52 left here
just got the eo8 what a lovely word.
57 left here. don't see any of those 3 eo, even though per bea's clue I know 6 of the 8 letters in the 8.

And where there is sushi, there is usually wine...
made it down to 52. really going to the puzzle now. TTFN
Give it some time, mlf.
just can't get that runaway couple to the altar in this grid
is that supposed to mean something ?
bzz
No, except you might want to get a little more familiar with the grid before you jump on that 8.
If you know it starts in eo and ends in a word that means heap, that only leaves two letters to find to connect them.
found the eo 8 a while back, ty
*watches with popcorn*
all I did was read the chat lol
ae 7/32, pls
That is why I say, give it some time.
No way, I'm not cluing that ae7 again

Hi Pen, how's life in Maine?
very quiet... ;o) .... stay at home order here.....haven't been out in three weeks....

Nosy

We have a lot more cases than that in my county. But then, we have over a million people too.
yes, and my county is not all that populous....decent sized area, but not many people....
name that proper noun! girl who lived in the Plaza penthouse
Good morning from the center of the universe here in Washington State. Getting a few grid words but my goal is always set so wide, I call any word a win. Hope you all have a splendid day. We are going to play some Scrabble today.
hi there stidgmere! How are you? long time no see
Doing fine here in retirement mode. We already have such a quiet life we barely notice the stay at home order. Kind of like friends who didn't notice the Great Depression because they already were poor.
elise?

el 7/28, pls

sorry, dose, don't get the sore or wound
My work has just sent me a message asking if by May 1st I would be comfortable working from the office again. Heck no I will not! In our city, the amount of people getting sick is still increasing by the day. I don't even feel comfortable going to the store yet.
... okay ... el + I am, you are, she xx + charged particle

eo 8/45
o my
thank goodness for morewords :D
sp 6/21, second one, pls
... add a consonent to the middle of your backbone
People are going to look pretty funny with consonants sticking out of their backbones.
But then we all look pretty funny, running around in face masks, so who cares.

https://tinyurl.com/y89zx8a8 quarantine through art
42 left, and this is one tricky puzzle!

these are like the worst e's ever, no?
Two are the others were not too bad.

Took me quite a while to get the Os I just could not see them at first.
yeah, I only got3 from the 5th col and those took a while
Well I am off to do other things. Goodluck with the rest of the grid!
bye!
hi all. I dusted and vacuumed my bedroom and small hallway. since I do this so infrequently I feel the need to announce it publicly
Excellent!
I usually clean twice a year before i have a bunch of people over. Have spring cleaned two rooms so far.
lol mixi6 I clean a little more frequently than that but not much
stuck with 54 left
tough grid? or is it me?
It's not you. People have been complaining all day. Peri I am DYING to get a pedicure. Even though it is too damn cold to break out the sandals.
It is too cold here too. the heat is still one. but the sun is shining so that is good
And my spa closed permanently, so now I have to find a new place once this virus mess is behind us.
I feel bad for the people who had gift cards in the 100-200 dollar range who got totally hosed by this.
that is too bad, Molly
I hope by hair salon is able to stay open
I hope by hair salon is able to stay open
I did get my hair cut before all hell broke loose and also had my car washed
Hair in general is going to start looking shaggy and unkempt. The guys in my office are already looking that way.
my neighbor across the hall is still working but he shaves his head
he does it anyway nothing to do with the pandemic

I really don't understand why they don't have eelmine in this dictionary....
where do they think eels come from? The sea????!!
and everyone knows that they stack oil in an oilpile...sheesh
why isn't eelpie a word
I guess the lamprey experience scarred the lexicographers
eelmix sounds like a good drink ☻
ooh
If 4 and 20 blackbirds can be baked in a pie, why not eel in a pie
and why not minipole? Can we only have standard sized poles?
I'm sure all the under-endowed men of the world don't want "minipole" to be a word.
heh
eating bauxite can cause orelips
yummy

woo hoo
yay monty!
still 9 away
any clue needed ?
what letter does the 8 start with?

Any sewers on? Do you know if a Singer heavy-duty 4423 can use a Brother sa156 bobbin?
It is so sad that sewer means one who sews and also pipes that run sewage water. It lends to a lot of misunderstanding.
Yes, I thought that too as I posted. I naturally researched the question myself first, but found conflicting answers. I'd hoped someone on here would know.
The "we who sew" hour is in the morning when Bea and Carla are on. They talk about sewing for a long time.
Oh! Thanks Molly. I try back then. Bye :)
I would try researching your sewing machine and see if there are any substitute bobbins that can be used.
love that word...bobbin...
hi all. clues for the E in fourth column? ty
bea and carla keep me in stitches
They are sew into the needle and thread thing.
Material girls.
eelpie
That is the second time eelpie has been posted in the chat. Are people getting desperate for groceries?
my dad, who was one of 10 and learned to eat eerything, drew the line at line. so to speak.
eelpie is more plausible than the actual words.
ok all so what is the clue for the e??????
nm. got one of them
any stats or clues for the 8? ty
eo8/45 - sort of like TO's joke, except with extra vowels and another L
eo + shortened fib + heap
ty. heap is hard for me. trying.
got it. ty.
woot
If heap is hard for you, try a Google search on synonyms for heap. The word comes right up.
hello all....ae 9 anyone?....it's my last word....
age and rectal words mixed together
ae 8 - ae + half of a Hawaiian goose + vowel + pl of me
an old ass if you will
Good morning all
hi liz.. you spoiled my obscure clue :D
ty, ru and liz....i am done....
Half a Hawaiian goose is becoming a popular clue phrase
I think I got it from you, Molly
congrats, pen
way to go penq
good evening
Sorry about ruining your clue Ru - much better than mine.
ty....hi phan.....
actually, liz....i used yours... ;o)
two hawaiian geese on the beach looking at a dead goose.. what happened to Sam.. he got clued in half
:)
The sad thing is, the general, non-Babble playing public would not have a clue as to what "half a Hawaiian goose" means.
When I first heard it on babble, I had to google it.
they'd have to take a gander at the archives I'd guess
Now it just seems normal but I've never seen one or heard it used outside of babble.
I got to see one when I went to Hawaii 5 years ago.
I was so excited!
I ought to google an image and see what it looks like.
i guess the Hawaiian islands are the only places they live in the wild....
Can't see that I'll ever get to Hawaii. At the moment can't see me getting out of Aus!
i like Kaui and Maui.. but not the other islands
The weird Enable Word List makers hoped for comments like this, someday.
I really enjoyed the big island.
i have only been to Oahu....
We also went to Oahu, I needed to go to Pearl Harbour
Those of us who are claustrophobic and could not endure a plane ride that long, only dream of Hawaii.
yes, i went there, too....
I think that is pretty much the only reason to go to Oahu...
well i went to Oahu on my way back from China....my cousins lived there....i actually went for free....the travel agent got me a ticket from Japan for $55 and never billed me....
Oahu is kind of like Reno NEvada.. just a little dumpy
i spent time with my cousins and they took me to out of the way places....had a good time...
Pearl Harbour Phan? DId you turn British while you were sick?
Fireworks - tough grid. Good luck everyone and enjoy your days / evenings and stay safe.
That's awesome, Pen
i went there almost 40 years ago....
bye liz....
wow.. how old are you pen?
i pictured you in your 30's .. so much for that image
Pen is retired I think, so older than 30
yes, i was 31 at the time....
yes, retired...
went with a college group that was invited to go....i was a third chaperone....
well she could be luckily retired at 30 .. a lottery winner or something :D
*Keeps hoping to be luckily retired sometime soon
we could start a go fund me retirement fund here molly
i was gone 6 weeks on that trip....it was great....
yes, molly.....you could go start a go fund me page.. ;o)
That's okay Ru, I don't ask for hand outs
i love traveling.. i do hate the long plane rides.. 6 hours is my limit
there've been a ton of go fund me things here for restaurant staffs and they've been sort of successful.. so i guess they do work.
yes, our local second hand book store just raised over $16,000 dollars to keep afloat....
Oh they definitely work, when the cause is sincere.
i just hate having to pay the supplemental fee to facebook for a donation for someone's needs. it's just creepy of facebook
i don't "do" Facebook....
i'd love to toss facebook .. i'm sick of it to be honest
i just don't want to reconnect with someone i went to grammar school with....do miss the relative photos, though....
i have to do a zoom meeting.. see you later pen..
someone in my county set up a webpage for small businesses to get donations and/or gift certificates...you can choose a business to donate to or buy from....
bye ru....
i am also heading out....goodnight all....
goodnight
took me forever but fireworks
same here and me, too. yay, us! :D
