pastry
bread product, similar to a US biscuit... tea and sc5 s
sc5 - you eat it with jam & clotted cream.
Jacula, what is clotted cream?
anyone have the stats for the lower left corner O word?
cream with chunks in it yum
metal - very thick cream, like butter. Used in Devon teas = sc5 + jam + clotted cream.
thx une metal and jac
ty Jac

o 4/4 table scraps
little bits and pieces of something
os5--just climb the far left of the grid

for 7s i have de7, di7, jo7, ro7, se7, sl7, st7, ti7 and to7, can someone tell me what the other three 7s are?

it's a Babble standard, Andree--
da7 flowers
da7

good morning Eva
hi eva!
Good morning Eva & Merp. You never know what you're going to find when you log into Babble, do you?!
morning fran, metal & Jac
good morning eva:)
hi jean
so about that oo5?
eva, oo5 is spelled like an ee word that means scary or creepy
Eva - re the 'oo' word... imagine you're alone in a graveyard at night, it's misty & the trees are dripping. Suddenly, you hear a twig crack behind you... it's creepy, it's ee***.
thanks!
Jac's already preparing for Halloween!
You turn around to find it was only Merp following you. LOL!
remind me never to visit graveyards with you Jac. Very evocative
darn, i thought it was going to be a werewolf or mummy!
When we lived in the city and had lots of trick or treaters, Merp would sit ouside on his leash and greet them
*grins*
good morning everyone :) and i think J's should NOT be allowed in any puzzle. 8 words starting with J ?? ugh!!
hi addy!

ti 5/12 - use the ti 4/4 below it, remove last letter and ad on the two past tense letters reversed
That wasn't a very good clue...
This is exactly what I should be doing on a Monday morning.....babbling instead of actual work.

yes my aunt played it constantly...but she was not italian
have you seen carmina burana?
friday they are giving a free final dress rehearsal for their new production of madame butterfly

very good
ooh that is interesting ...much more so than my usual friday noon concerts...yes i thinkit sound intriguing
you speak italian?
with apologies to the shirelles...one fine day
no...i took it very late in life and it got all muddled up with the spanish and latin...however, i do plan to take something so when i go i can at least know what is being said about me. i know the rude ones though
i got tickets the day the box office opened for two nights in october when my brother comes to town
i meant carmina burana sounds intriguing...for butterfly?

oooo I love carmina burana
or the broadway version of la boheme
don't know the mozart - hi ata!
I think my fav opera is Aida though
i picture it as dark and brooding - is it?
in also looking forward to a brand new opera called the first emperor with placido domingo, music written by tan dun, who wrote the music for crouching tiger
well its not as light and airy as marriage of figaro
you want dark and brooding?
but not as dark and brooding as don giovanni
no you are blonde and sunny!
ms.renfield
You rang?
i was asking ata if carmina burans was dark and brooding

I know nothing of John Waters, so Mozrt and Salieri it is one more day
good morning Stid
you're in the grid *again* stid :)
let's see there are several to7s
hi inge. It is sunny here again *sigh* the ground isn't getting soaked at all. So I will have to go out and water a bit later.
I just have the one most recently clued
I am? *runs off to look*
ooh! I am! *bright smile*
1st to7 is plural of to6 above it: to + consonant + plus last 3 letters of what preparation H is for
hello, everyone. happy monday
Our son flew in from Charlotte this morning. It rained so hard his plane was stacked for 20 minutes
di 7/32 anyone, anyone????
have that one, inge
st 7/28?
oh man! I hate it when they do that. I always want to strap on a parachute and just deplane anyway! LOL
di 7/32: little songs
in the rain??
ty cybernan
st 7: tales
Nan, the other one means to twist. to + consonant + superman has xray vi****
thansk cyber
Well, the parachute is a bit like an umbrella... *grin*
thanks, inge
Ok, jump!
look out below! (it's my fantasy, I'll pretend the rain stops just as leave the plane and I land right in inge's back yard without breaking anything...)
I think chj has gone to write his bio, Renfield's is up and funny as alwasys
doing your mary poppins routine again, stid? ;)

Bye all....I actually need to work now, be back later.

or6? oo5?
Let me straighten out the tool box first. Hope you dont bleed too much while waiting
I just watched my kitchen floor get washed, bought myself an early bday present, a scooba
the oo 5 is like the place that eagles nest in, walnutchen
I can now babble and have get a clean kitchen floor at the same time
scooba? like the roomba? Did it work? (thinking it would scare the dickens out of my dogs)
cool, saphyre. did you get it on woot.com?
no stid, it would teach them respect for a clean floor
yes-- I have ll: 4x4, 5x2, 6x3, 7x2
it works great and my dog just stays away from it which is more than I can say when I try to mop...the cat thinks its a big toy
had fun just watching
got it from ebay
waiting for my roomba to show up
Wow. Will have to talk with Tom about that... (though I would have to sweep first -- shudder)
great!
check out today's woot at woot.com, stid.
okay, brb (not getting very far on the grid anyway)
this house only has wooden floors, except the bathrooms, no use for scooba
well if you have a roomba you could have it vacuum the floor and then wash it with the scooba haha
I consider vacuuming day my aerobic excercise day, no use for roomba either, I guess
I don't have a roomba... scooba sounds pretty amazing -- we have all wood or vinyl floors because of my allergies (it was pets or carpets, I chose pets). Sweeping once (sometimes twice) a day is my norm.
since I had my fireworks two hours ago, I better go and be productive for a while
The previous owner of this house had allergies, hence the wooden floors
yeah I vacuum once a day atleast - pets and carpets and Eric has allergies
Well, as much as I long to stay and chat and play, I have so much to do this morning... see you all later.
bye stid
ditto, bbl
bye inge
see you two later
now, back to the grid. argh.
30 to go - jumping back into the grid

Good one, evanadine. We always learned to tell "moron" jokes. I guess if anyone's smart enough to be offended, they must not be a moron.
Got it vic. Thanks --- do you know that six months ago I wouldn't have gotten it from the clue

Hi folks. It's been a busy day in the garden etc. Thought I'd look in on you all to see how you are doing...
Has anyone been noticing the free-fall of the Detroit Tigers?
Hello Jacula - you're arriving just as I'm leaving! See you on the log tomorrow - don't be staying up all night!
nope - it's got a froggie sticking his tongue out at a baseball
cute
And what about "sion," as in "Priory of Sion?"
maybe he could teach ichy to play baseball
I won't Haz! (Mind you, P's on a 10 - 2 shift soon...)
Hi Jac
and even fits sideways
shhhhh, Douglas, just because you want your Twins to be on top!!!
Hi lbd. How's the grid going?
There are naughty bits in this puzzle, a word that rhymes with "naughty bits"
I finished about an hour ago Jac. it was kinda ugly there for a while. stupid head words
ah -- can anyone give me some help with the to 7 please>
Well done, lbd. According to my grid my last word inputted was ts6/18 at 6:32am! (It was lunchtime here in UK!)
hi Inge!
debbinla - to7 = twisting.
that was my last word jac!
hi lbd
There's a ts? Can I have a clue for that one?
Douglas - it's Yiddish for 'trouble & suffering'.
rhymes with boris
thanks jac!!
Douglas - it sounds a bit like my star sign (The Bull).
Oh, like the Egyptians suffered when Pharaoh wouldn't let Israel go, like frogs in their soup, etc.
How was your day today Jac?
I got it! Thanks Jac and lbd...
y/w Douglas
lbd - Have been busy in the garden. Apparently, we're getting the tail-end of Hurricane Gordon in a day or so. I needed to retack the bunny shed roof felt and other such jobs before strong winds arrive.
How about you, lbd?
There are fancy words for both doughnut and doughnuts
Ooh, I have 2*2*2*2*2*2 words left!
busy day at the office, and now i'm babysitting the same office. we have to work til 7pm. which is stupid.
If you'd have been here 12 hours ago you would have had the dubious pleasure of reading a discussion about clotted cream (which goes with jam and sc5/12's for Devon teas) and bum grapes (a clue for or6/21 - sounds like piles). LOL.
7pm?? Good grief!
oooh clotted cream! yum not sure what bum grapes are tho
Douglas - which 2 and do you need a clue? Oh! That rhymes.
I was saying I'm down to 64 words left...
if you'd been here 24 hours ago you would have had the unique pleasure of witnessing the attempted kidnapping of jillibus and tiny
lbd - bum grapes are piles. (What your grannie warns you you'll get from sitting on a cold wall.)
I was here 24 hours ago, and i did witness that almost kidnapping! those dread pirates!
chj - attempted kidnap of jillibus & tiny?? Do tell!
oh *blush*
Ren wasn't involved, was she?
yes it was me ren and nut
jilli inmsulted us
Jac, it was a near miss to be sure!

but if you ask her shell deny it
Sorry I made you blush, lbd. However, like I said earlier, you never know what you're going to find when you log into Babble.;)
yay dedds
debbs
Well done, debb!
Hooray for debbinla!
How did jilli & tiny escape?
Douglas - I've just read your profile. 6 kids? Life must be hectic! I'm the same age as you and I can just about cope with 2 kids (22 & 19) and 1 'step' (11).
One of them is grown...sort of...
Douglas - I'd ask what you mean by 'sort of'... unfortunately, I think I know...
lol - i don't have kids and i think i know
jilly brandished a vorpal sword, whose meaning I still havent found, and tiny then freed her
I think you mean a vorpal blade...they go "snicker-snack..." Speaking of snacks, I'm getting hungry...
Hi all! Can anyone help? I've only 3 to go and have hit a total blank! I need the 2nd st 5 and the to 6/21 and to 7/32
Jacula, you can read up on Jilli's version in her profile
st 5' os plural of pigpens
I have the to 6/12...it's the fancy word for doughnut...I'm getting hungry...
I'm here, one and all and listerning to chj's slander - see my profile for the truth!
Ah! A vorpal sword is from The Jabberwocky, one of my favourite poems. Speaking of which, tomorrow's icon theme is 'favourite poet'. I'll be hard-pressed to choose a favourite, especially as I am a published poet myself! LOL. I might give it to Lewis Carroll. Not sure yet.
and the to 7/32 is more than one of them...
Evening all! Calloo Callay! Love Jabberwocky. One of my all time favorite poems.
Just nipping off to read jilli's profile...
hiya jilli!
hi debb
LOL, jilli! (re the story)
n ice icon, jac!
Hi Judi.
you forget i was a lawyer jilli so i pulled the transcript and if you will look at 6:28 PM on yesterday's chat log, you'll see that it was you who fired the first salvo by calling me and ren and nut a bunch of goofs...its all there in black and white
Thanks, jilli.
I have just altered my icon to reflect a poet I'm enjoying these days, Jalalludin Rumi...
Oh heck, jilli! You've got a lawyer on your case noqw.:/
and unfortunately you can't see cap'n ren's profile for that day because she was the one who threatened me before anything else happened
or even *now
If someday it should happen that a victim must be found, I've got a little ****, I've got a little **** Of society offenders who might well be underground, And who never would be missed, they never would be missed...
i know my friend ren would never attack someone with ample provocation
you see? Defending his captor!
Lol, jilli.
Stockholm syndrome personified.
Douglas - I hadn't heard of that poet but just read a couple of his poems on line.
shall we start calling him Patti?
I have one of his poems up at Crossword Bebop, "These spiritual windowshoppers"
Jilli - I was thinking more of that girl recently found in... Vienna, was it?
Just dropped in to say hullo to my babbler friends and there Doug is quoting my beloved WHS. Hullo everyone
Ah, but best of all I remember the Plaza del *****, Now whenever I start feeling morose, I revive by recalling that scene...
whatever, jac, and it's nice to have a supporter - yesterday one of my fellow-islanders actually began to doubt my veracity after a nudge from you-know-who
Hi hetty!
Natascha, her name is. (The Ausstrian girl.)
she may have kidnapped me but it was for my own benefit...to keep me away from the corrupting non-pirating life
Hi jilli! How good to see you!
Hi hetty!
and that's why you were screaming for help, I suppose
And names like Delmonte Dominguina Manolete If I life to a hundred and eigh-tay I shall never forget what they mean...
Doug, I just scrolled dow and found uyou are enjoying Rumni--another of my favourite poetS. WhaT DO YO0U THINK OF mARY oLIVER?
lol - catching up on all the fun reading - chj - rennie - jilli....
I quite like the poems of Ogden Nash.
we dont always know whats good gor us...like terry malloy in on the waterfront
*Rumi--oh these sdran fingfers, when I get xcited. Hi there Jac!
I LOVE Ogden Nash
Douglas - Delmonte is a brand of tinned fruit, isn't it? LOL.
hetty's writing nonsense posts! Oh, I love nonsense poems!
YAY! Thanks for the clues - just finished - those doughnuts really stimied me!
I'm not familiar with Mary Oliver, but I seem to recall she had a poem in a book of poems I just read, "The Soul Is Here For It's Own Joy," compiled by Robert Bly.
I could have used Manolete yesterday to get rid of the bull
Indeed yes! I'm not sure if it's Delmonte or Del Monte...
Thanks again - going to have to go as it's 1:24 am here and at this rate I'll never make work tomorrow.
So do I --him and dorothy parker; but to me they are versifiersrather than poets. And yes, Mary Olier has ftreat affinities with 2 Roberts, Bly and Frost --but a feminine take on nature
Yes, I meant to ask what the 'doughnuts' were. I finished the grid hours ago and I can't see any doughnuts in it! Someone, much earlier, said sc5/12 wa a 'bread product', which it is NOT!
I have 2^6 words, and I'm ready for some football!
valentine again
jeez, i turn my back and all sorts of stuff happens, Hi Jilli, Hi Hetty, Hi Tinks
mets 3-0
whos playing tonight douglas
yeah, i didn't get the doughnut reference either.
he on fire
unless it has to do with the kind you sit on
he on fire
good that somebodys gettin hot
hetty - do you make a distinction between versifiers and poetasters? Mind you, most poets, being artistic and therefore temperamental types, tend to veer between the over-wordy dramatic, the lean, clean to the point verse, and just rhyming for fun. I've certainly wrote those myself.
i know - hopefully it's contagious
thanks for mentioning tomorrow's theme, Jacula, I got my poet ready, he is sortof the German Lewis Carroll
chj - who wrote the mets theme song - that's poetry right there!
It's bridge night and I have to go. No talking behind my back now!
good luck Jilli!
hey, Jilly< I am on your side, since I witnessed the whole event
No, Jac, I make my OWN distinction (which I dont expect others to accept willy-nilly) between those who write light verse--the versifiers--and those who write poetry (the kind that makes you feel the top of your head is taken off--according to emily dickinson) and are therefore poets. To me, poetasters are all those who enjoy verse and poetry both. Now I hav eto run --dinner engagement. Best to you all!
i think it was beethoven...since its an ode to joy
hey guys and gals - help with the ce 5/12?

(also eating dinner)
I just finished. Now I have to go before the cat drives me insane. He wants to play. There is no peace until he's got mommy's attention!

i'm here for a about 20 minutes, then i'm going home and will log on for story time.

nah, that's too easy - plus I don't get to use antiquated slang. where's the fun in that?
never mind got the ts
igorms - ts is Yiddish for 'trouble & suffering'. (Sounds a bit like the name for the astological sign of the bull.)
woohoo fireworks
Well done, Igorms.

Enomis - ne5/10 is the bird's rooosting place with a personal pronnoun after the 1st vowel.
hey, Jacula, thanks for the clue. You decide your sleep pattern based on whether you like sunrise or sunset better.

I'm a night owl by preference, Ankh. Hence the internet nick of 'Jacula', given to me by a Canadian friend from another site.

Hi Smiley.

I think Michael Owen was the nearest to Georgie Best who I ever saw dash around the pitch. Unlike Georgie, generation thing, I guess, he was not so hungry... In the end he put his family first, rather than his obsessive personality & his love of the game.
bichon: i saw a funny bumper sticker this evening: My Bichon Frisee is smarter than your honor student
Dawer, thanks, now I'm stuck with my last three words, and they are all to -- to5,10 to6,21 to7,32

I think people everywhere, have strong views
Jacula, I gave her "British politics" as a clue for to**** -- that's all.

ro5/10 is the plural of ro4/4.
if not the ro 4 is decal + a stick consonant

i was stationed on whidbey island. there are some really neat places to explore there. have fun and enjoy the stid family
i'm so excited - i took my vacation last year with my parents and sister, and while nice, it was not the romantic getaway that i (we) could have used. this one will be - the plan is to eat great food, do fun things, and be really nice to each other.

Fireworks!!
Finsihed, GW?
Congrats!!!
yay woulfie!
Hi C-nan
How's the family, GW? -- Hootowl still with you?
Hoot is home already -- she was here last weekend for a couple of days -- it was a good time -- she got lots of time with the kids
Bet she loved every minute!
As for the family -- we are all doing pretty good -- my back gave me problems the day after hoot left, but it is doing much better now -- everyone else is doing alright
We live 11 hours driving time from our grandkids -- it's really tough --- you feel like you never really get to know them.
and that was the report from the dept of redundancy dept
glad you're feeling better -- nothing worse than a sore back
ooh, i hate back problems. glad you had a nice visit and are feeling better.
indeed, she lives about 16 hours away -- this was the first time she has seen Seb since he was born
Doesn't look like anyone needs any help, so I'll be back at the flip -- bye for now :)
hi all. Woulf, glad you are better -- Fiz, I got your email, Hi Nan!
Hi stidmama -- finished?
hi stid! bye nan!
The worst part of the back was the horrid er visit I had, but I already ranted about that the other day and will not subject the log to it again :)
like the back isn't enough - a trip to the er will really help you relax!
OK, the worst part was really the fact that I could barely interact with the kids on Sunday, but the er was a close second
no -- I was going to try earlier, but kinda got scared off bye the chat I saw. So I think I'll just relax and let this one go.
Stid, are you IMable?
Just a sec Daisy.
Fiz -- I had to because my health bennies haven't kicked in yet -- But I had a realistic expectation of what to expect
what happened earlier, stid?
yep. ready when you are Daisy
*takes greywoulf's hand for a trek to canada for universal health coverage....*
I also got an offer to go to Australia for the same, Fiz :D
Just saw someone ranting and didn't have the energy so have been off doing fun things around the house instead. I made CHUTNEY for the first time, and it turned out really yummy!
ooh go to australia gw! send a postcard, please.
ok stid - i know the difference between jam and jelly, but what's the difference between jam and chutney, stid?
Australia's a lot further away from Pennsylvania than Canada fiz.... LOL
Fiz -= Australia look so beautiful but it scares me a bit -- too many poisonous critters all about :)
Chutney is SPICY! and you can make it with lots of things, but common ingredients are vinegar/lemon; brown sugar/honey; sweet things (I used apples and raisins today); savory things (I also put in a bit of garlic, though often they use onion); and spices (today I had ginger, cinnamon and cloves).
*spreading arms in front of great white shark, tasmanian devil, and assorted other critters* poisonous critters? where?
I have only ever had mango chutney myself -- not so spicy but very very yummy
yummy! maybe i should make some - i love savory flavors with my sweets.
I served it with pork chops (which we rarely eat, but an unexpected dinner guest left me scrambling for "normal" food to serve) and it was delicioso!
LOL, Fiz
I think the frog infestation in Australia would make me nervous... also the mice, and the giant insects.
my family had an opportunity to go to the austrailan rainforest when i was about 12 and my sister was 5 - she still does an imitation of the giant spider hanging outsider our window!
it was way cool, though - tree kangaroos, wallabies, and yes, the occasional snake or creepy critter. didn't seem overrun with frogs...
ok, i need a snack and then i have to go to bed. stid, will i see you this weekend?
I hope so Fiz-- I sent you my phone if you want to call (I have you number written down too).
Truthfully though - if I were to ever hit the lottery, I will most definitely be visiting Australia -- it has a spiritual draw for me
will do stid. *pulled by kite to kitchen, waving* bye, all!
If I ever hit the lottery, I would pay off my mortgage so my little piece of land would be mine forever no matter what... but I don't know if I am brave enough to travel that far away from home. Going north this summer just a short ways was traumatic enough!
Congratulations GreyWoulf on fireworks! Good for U!
So long Fiz!! again -- have a great trip and may the joyful moments seem like an eternity and the boring ones flit by without notice
Does anyone have a clue for the ad 5/12 word please
