Hello everyone...
Good evening Douglas
Good morning Douglas. It's either an early start or a late bedtime for you.
I'm not really sure what it is...
Best not to think about it too much, then. You'll need all your energy for the grid.
But I'm glad there are some Babblers about...
This is the time when the British contingent start to sign on, the insomniac Americans finally go to bed and the Australians enjoy their evening wind-down.
Morning all. The grid seems a bit kinky today, a touch of S&M!
Your eyes cast a spell that bewitches, The last time I needed twenty stitches, To sew up the gash that you made with your lash As we dance to the masochism tango!
Douglas used a woooord.
Tom Lehrer.........Good morning all
Good morning Frances.
Morning Haz......quietly babbling away here.
I have a confession to make...about 32 years ago, I sang that song in front of a couple hundred of my peers...
But you were young then, and lacking in judgement.
How about 'Poisoning pidgeons in the Park'
True...
I dimly remember that, Douglas. Did 'I drank champagne from you shoe, tralala, I was drunk by the time I was through,' come from that song?
I used to love Tom Lehrer - so irreverent!
Spring is here, as a budding is here, Life is skittles and life is beer, I think the lovliest time of the year is the spring I do, Don't you? Course you do!
You'd have to be awfully picky about whose shoe you would be prepared to drink champagne from.
The song you refer to hydra, is called "The Wiener Schnitzel Waltz"
Which was the last song of the second side of "Songs by Tom Lehrer."
Oh yes, of course! How about the cynical May and September one? Whifch album was that on? And Poisoning the Pigeons in the Park? The animal rights people would lynch him for that these days!
"When You Are Old And Gray" is on the same album as "The Wiener Schnitzel Waltz," and "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park" is on the album "More by Tom Lehrer"
What a good memory you have. Who painted your icon? It's an interesting portrait.
Go to http://www.google.com/musica?aid=eyEIo 2KMPVI&sa=X&oi=music&ct=result, and you will find the 5 Tom Lehrer albums...
Thanks, I will, post-Babble.
I actually don't know who painted it...I only know it is supposed to be a picture of Rumi, back from the day when the theme was poets...
Now I'm admitting my ignorance. Who is Rumi?
Just had to go and look through my records. I can only find 'An Evening with Tom Lehrer' and 'Tom Lehrer Revisited'
Persian/Turkish poet of the 13th century. Perhaps you've heard of a whirling dervish? He was the guy who got the dervishes whirling in the first place...
Wow. I went to see some genuine whirling dervishes at the Festival Hall in London. Though I've been many times to Turkey, I never saw any there.
ooooo Rumi's poetry is *wonderful*
Got to 163 words. It's time for a break and a whirlwind tidy up.
I'm only on 82 and now have to take library books back. Found today's ghost word - sushi. See everyone l8r.

i just started, i am being kitchen wench tonight so i have to keep ducking over to the stove
I have 36 left, and can't see anymore :) Bed time I think, good luck herin! Bye :)
night ca
night cat
Good Lord! I've just signed in and almost O/D'd on E's! For those who like a grid with vowels, this one has them in abundance... BBL.
Bye Jacula.
hi everybody!
first time in here tonight, how is the grid so far?
Hello FranMag!
hi haz!
It's a nice grid today - just a few left to find.
not that it matters either way! i would do the grid no matter what.
I know what you mean, but some grids are more satisfying than others. This one has a nice mix of the familiar and the more unusual.
that's good, good length too.
Yesterday's was a bit of a slog towards the end. I had limited time so just had to keep the head down and keep going.
However, this one is done now, so I should really get on with some other stuff. Happy hunting!
yay haz! bye!
good evening
hi andree!
bit quiet in her tonight Fran
i know, where is everyone?
maybe they've all finished and left.
I must have frightened them off
67 left, I will soldier on
you're way ahead of me andree, i've just started.
Hey Everyone!
hi lickety!
been darting back to the grid since flip when I get a chance
hi lickety
i think andree and i are the only ones here lickety!
you're not getting your usual warm welcome!
morning everyone
hi eva!
Hi All
hi dianne!
hi Eva and Diane
no, I just arrived and am quietly stasying away from the chatterbox, good morning to you all, and thanks lickety for the daily lists
hi inge!
hi inge
Hi Andree - was just hunting the last few and didn't see your post :)
why on earth is huss not in the dictionary?
I expect hussy probably is
must be an unearthly reason?
hi atalante!
must be. poor little unaccepted dogfish
hi afig!
hi fran :)
good morning all!
hi wolvie!
Any hints on the ge 5/16 -- my last word.
morniing wolvie
off to update my icon brb
hi Wolvie
ata, today's theme was your suggestion, where's your pre-raphaelite art?
OOOOOOOO! is it today? *runs to find somthing*
hi arb, don't have it yet
would that be the rock, ARB? first word I found whilst looking for an icon
hello. such dedicated babblers we are!
hi blood!
thanks wolvie!
hi Blood
hi bloodaxe!
today's grid is a little less intimidating after yesterdays.
Wolvie, what rock?
testing new icon...
ok, now I have something pre-Raph - Rossetti's "Beata Beatrix", my fave pre-Raph painting for many reasons
cool wolvie!
a hollow concretionary or nodular stone often lined with crystals, is the def ARB
very nice ata!
and yay for Waterhouse, Fran!
good heavens, 99 words in 20 minutes! Hope it stays easy like that
ge plus O**, as in a song to, sort of
feer
aha thank you -- you made me look in the opposite direction than I had been doing. FIREWORKS
congrats!!
was that the word??
twas, wolfie. thanks
i wasn't familiar with these artists ata, but when i did my search i was more drawn to waterhouse.
cool
yay arb!!!!
wolvie, sorry.
why so, ARB??
oh - I see -typo. No worries
Waterhouse's work is *incredibly* beautiful. Many other PR artists aren't quite so classically inclined and more of a "specicialised" taste
that must have been it ata!
I could look at Waterhouse painting for ever and a day I think :)
thanks for picking a great theme ata!
I'm glad you like it! I'm just randomly imposing my art tastes on everyone :)
well, it never hurts to learn or find something new!
too right!
whew, i'm glad the Ps were PHs and not PSs!
you made me look at that box, fran, thanks - got those 2
haven't made a start on those yet Fran
nice Qu words :-o
hi everyone :D
Actually, there aren't many wierd words today.
hi cj!
hi cj
hi CJ
Hey
yw wolvie!
ARB the Qu words arent 'normal'
how long are they cj?
my phantom of the night is squish
5 and 7 letters
Outside of the Eng;ish speaking world, q is used, often even without a u. I'm very used to seeing transliterated words from Arabic and Hebrew which use the q for a gutteral K sound.
I wanted squire, fran. :-)
and quisp didn't work either!
well, ARB - I am not - looks like these are going to be a tough thing for me to hunt down, should be fun. :-)
thanks cj!
is quisp a posh word for crisp? ;-)
it was a cereal brand that didn't quite take off i think
The qu 5/18 has only a single vowel, the u. The qu 7/44 is the plural (by "normal plural rules).
but i like your definition for sure!
rhymes with a well-known babbler
thanks, ARB! got the 5, now on to the 7
thanks arb and ata, got them!
thanks arb!
and the 7. thanks!
i'm going to remember those for scrabble!
Good Day Babblers I just woke up in my own bed for the first time in 6 weeks and I feel Great!!!!
another good one for scrabble is the same word but replace the U with an I
Check that they are in your scrabble dictionary, Fran.
hi kae!
i will arb! thanks
Hi Fran love your icon :)
I take it youve been on the move Faerie?
thanks kae!
LOL - faerie - you are a busy grrrl - and - hi!
whats the pictures about for today?
CJ25 yes as a matter of fact that's exactly what I'm doing Moving LOL
cj, pre-raphaelite art
HI Wolvie :)
moving to your new home :-)
YES
Great to travel, Faeriekae, and even better to come back to your own bed. We've been gone most of the summer, too, and it was a real pleasure to crawl into my own bed.
ARB - no truer words have ever been spoken
brb
I have to finish packing everything here in Michigan and then it's off to Kentucky to my new house where my family is :)
very cool faerie - hope the move is smooth
do you have to finish a puzzle for it to count in your rankings?
Lots of work. I only envy the opportunity to go through everything and get rid of unneeded/excess stuff
I moved out of my parents over a year ago - Im still sorting out post to be re-directed.
Yes, blood - I beleive you do - did you finish yesterday?
bloodaxe, once you start a puzzle it affects your ranking.
morning --- first time to Babble in about 2 weeks due to our move from Idaho to Massachusetts. fairiekae, I feel for you! We're still getting unpacked
dang. No. I quit with 76 words left. I just couldn't take it anymore. I had worked on it for 16 hours.
hi ch1212 - nice to see you back! Where 'bouts in Massa are you? I lived in Uxbridge for quite awhile
oh my God, blood - wow. I never got back. stayed at my 100 words. le sigh
Ive changed my icon to fit in so to speak
bloodaxe, they'll get easier as you play more!
We're in Athol, a relatively small rural area that is ladden with traffic :)
I know where that it, Ch - work take you there?
cool cj!
i sure hope you're right fran. Yesterday I felt like the end of finals week.
Although yesterday's was particularly long and tedious.
Yes, job related move. The leaves are just beginning to change and we think it's glorious here!
yes, yesterday's wasn't particularly hard, just really long!!
Good to be back with Babble! I've missed you all, and of course the game. Now I must go update my icon
yep - the timing of such a large one was bad for me - I ususally have folks over on Sundays during football season, so I couldn't play. :-(
it was going quickly for the time I was here, tho.
what team do you watch wolvie?
Hi again. I've typed all my on paper words in and now have 66 to find.
if you're concerned about rankings, then it's better to skip a puzzle that you don't think you'll finish, like wolvie did.
hi jac!!
Patriots. and Lions. Not a good day for me. :-)
i'm sorry. I hear the redskins were doing well?
Oh - I didn't skip it fran, I just didn't finish. I saved it for later, tho. :-)
not really, LOL - although they did win yesterday
Sorry everyone I just got booted off my computer due to "updates" LOL
Hi jac!
Hi Jacs :)
hey jac! we both picked waterhouse! i really like your choice!
hello again, faerie
hi again, faeriekae -- I was saying earlier I'm back on Babble after 2 weeks of moving across the U.S., so I feel for you with your move! Good luck with it
nice icon ch!
Ch - Thank you and glad to hear you got moved :)
Fran - Waterhouse is one of my favourites - picking the painting I liked the most was the difficulty. I have 'The Mermaid' (copy, not original!) in my hall. I chose 'The Soul of The Rose' for the icon though.
ch1212, you have landed in Massachusetts!!!!
it's beautiful jac!
Hi Inge nice to see you :)
I like yours, franmag, though I just changed mine so not sure if you mean the Star Trek stamp or the pre-raphael ... yes inge, we are in beautiful Massachusetts, where the leaves are glorious and the traffic is not
Fran - There's another of his painting called 'Good Neighbours' that I particularly like but it's a little wide to work as an icon.
yea, I have been lurking since 7 am, good grid today
come out and play, inge. :-)
faerie, let me know when you can receive plants
i'll have to go look it up jac
ch, i can see your pre-raphaelite icon
Good morning everyone. How is the grid today?
nice one scrabbler!
hi scrabbler - good grid so far
Inge I will thank you sooooooo much :)
Hi Scrabbler
Yesterday's grid was too long so I stopped.
i even have a new q word for my scrabble arsenal (if it works in the dictionary)
Hi Scrabbler
me too, scrabbler - I had too much to do.
hi pida!
Mornin' All...grid looks good today
hi Pida!
hi odin!
Inge actually I will be back in Kentucky by this weekend soooo. I could send you my new address and you could go ahead and send them this weekend if you'd like.
hi Odin - good so far
Fran - you'll find that painting at: http://www.johnwilliamwaterhouse.com/p aintings/painting1458.aspx
this is great, all the icons are so beautiful today
HI Odin, Hi Scrabbler
Off all week so I have good intentions of finishing every day...
A fireworks vacation for Odin
OK Faerie, my e mail is in my profile
Thanks Inge :)
Thanks Scrabbler...been quite some time since I have had any time off..acquisitions have a way of making things better and worse.
thanks for the link jac, that is a great painting!
and I lam not withi it yet Fran, wait till my husband comes upstairs and helps find a picture
brb
y/w, Fran. Many of his other paintings are on that site. It's a feat for the eyes.
i'll watch for it inge, it's a fun theme to search for.
Good morning everyone. Is the grid easier today. At least there are fewer words, and I already found the qu's
*feast, not feat!
(Mind you, I am about to get vari-focals. LOL!)
just added the link to my favorites to go look at it later, thanks jac!
gosh everyone's waterhouse-d today!
OK, I can't get the 2 Q's. I look for small victories, like greying out boxes, but what are those Q's? I am looking on the dictionary list on lickety's page.
wonderful icons today!
Scrabbler - the q's rhyme with a Babbler who recently did a tour of Europe.
q plus an anagram of a word meaning to hurry. No need to use that i!
scrabbler, the clue that got it for me was, the only vowel in it is the U.
ARB clued them, scarbbler - the only vowel is the u, and it has a similarity to a babbler's name
Hi again, Haz.
hi haz!
And then plural for the seven.
5 and 7 letters scrabbler
haz, you're back!
great clue, jacs
Hi Jacula, Fran etc. I'm not really back. You're all having hallucinations. I'm really cleaning.
and I'm really working
Haz - like I'm really vacuuming.;)
sounds like une an her sleep-babbling the other night
See! I'm not the only one.
Haz - if we're hallucinating it must be due to all those E's.
and i really should be asleep!!
hee, jac - true
see you all later or tomorrow! night!
I found them on the list of 5 letter words--I never heard of those words. TY for hints
You're right - far too many of them!
Sleep well, Fran.
bye Fran!
night fran!
Night Fran - and off I go again......
list of 5 letter words??
had to do three more words! night!!!
lol - sure, fran
I'm back, nite Fran
Haz - just run your duster over my monitor before you go. It might help me see more words...
hi Andree!
gosh, the log really is looking *pretty* today!
clue for 1st re 6/21 and re 6/27 please
re6/21 is to d4 again.
I'm back...Inge you have mail :)
hi faerie - again!
LOL Wolvie
thx Jac
Andree - haven't really started the re's yet - the only 6/27 I have is to fe** again.
I need to note that as we travelled across the many states (it took a week with all our stuff in two vehicles) I marvelled at how many babblers I could place --- in Wyoming, Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa, Ohio, Indiana, New York, to Massachusetts. Even though we were just passing through it was nice to "know" people in each state!
ch that is so nice
You passed me in western NY state!
cool, ch - did you meet any of them?
I'll be in Burlington, Vt next week--anybody there?
no, we didn't stop long anywhere -- but I thought about the different Babblers whose screen names I know who live in those states :)
thx Wolvie
Scrabbler we spent the night outside of Buffalo in Batavia
was that it Andree? cool! :-)
I am 35 mi south of Buffalo, and Batavia is about 30 mi east, halfway between Bflo and Rochester.
mornin babblers
Hi evan.
haven't looked at lickety yet - trying to be good. :-)
hi evan!
Is that Starry Night? evanadine
hello Evan :)
I wondered, Scrabbler -- your name (and icon since I'm visual) flashed through my mind as we entered the state
yes Wolvie, its the only 6/27 in re's
nice to know, Andree - thanks!
I knew that I played Babble better last week, like I had help! LOL
and hi evan
Hey, Scrabbler. I just saw that you will be in the big Burl. I live about an hour away.
We will be there, and visit Sherburn, Waterbury, ....
ch I did get to meet one fellow babbler during this move and I'm very blessed to have got to meet her. It is Shorty and I love her to pieces.
hi Gramma
Leaf peeping?
Hi Gramma
Ben & Jerry's had better stock up for my visit to their factory!
who did you get to meet, faeriekae?
LOL Scrabbler
hope everyone had a good weekend...
I did, I did
Hi everyone! I got a new computer and Dr.God helped me get my identity back.
Ch I got to meet Shorty :)
very cool, gramma!
We heard that Burlington is a neat city, so we picked it for our annual fall trip. We have done Cape Cod, Cape May, Adirondacks, Saratoga Springs...I go with a group of my tennis buddies. We always have a blast.
Congrats Gramma
Hi gramma! Shorty -- I saw that on your note but was confused if Shorty was with you when you met the fellow babbler or not -- now the light dawns!
A new computer--fun.
ty, faeriekae.
LOL
I've missed babbling soooo much.
Scrabbler, it's actually my 1st new computer. I used to get the kids hand-me-downs
Gramma enjoy YOUR new computer. No more hand me downs :)

any clues for the q's? hehe i love rhyming sentences
clue for er 5/12 and er5/10 please
its ok to eat not-so-good-for-you food when you feel like crap, right?
bloo if you know the babbler's name from Texas who was recently in Europe (she likes to play without lists, too) -- the qu rhymes with her screen name minus the y
It's obligatory eva.
er 5/12 is corrosion
ni ch1212 sorry
andree, the 5/10 I have is e plus a flower
Afternoon all, How is the grid today?
Bloo qu5/18 used to be a coin of Saudi Arabia - no other vowels. You can then pluralise it for qu7/44
Bloo in that case think about the famous chocolate maker from Pennsylvania ...
it's a good one fmitch
hi FM!
Hi Frances!
Hi Fmitch - it's a nice grid I think.
thanx guys, will hunt it down i m sure

Hi Wolvie - how are you today?

ive found 146 words in about an hour....thats pretty good for me... 78 left to go...
Yes, Tiny. Apart from the q's (which rhyme with a well-known Babbler who recently toured Europe), most words are 'normal'... so far.

LOL -- our new apartment has one of those locked front doors that you have to buzz people in, like on Seinfeld. I kept hearing a strange buzz sound and finally realized it was the door! The delivery guy just arrived with the desk. Poor guy was out there for about 5 minutes --- I'm lucky he didn't leave!
so6/21 - the bottom of a shoe, plus you and me
(It's funny when you know I've never lived in a place with one of those buzzer things)

Morning all. Beautiful day here in Alaska. 28 degrees. Winter's on the way.
Hello MKL
OMG Mkl and I thought 42 was cold
hi MKL
Brrr, Alaska.
I'm stuck on some le words. Clue me on le5,16 and the two le5,14s?
fl5, 16 that is not meaty?
le5/16 - most often associated with a window and what is underneath it?
Mkl, like a windowsill, it's a window le*** + pl
le5/14 - first is french for 'light' as in not heavy. Or think of it as a body part plus the American medical drama. The second le5/14 has the same structure but ends in a plural letter.
I knew there were some easy words there. They were just hiding from me.
fl5/16 - plural of fl4/7 - collections of ice?
My dogfish has fl5/16?
Thanks, Haz, I have those. I know the word I want is fle** but not bugs and not meat.
LOL, torgone!
fl 5, back in a fl***
dogfishes have water fl***
ahk... what baby birdies do.. when they get their feathers..
Thanks, Pida, but I know it's fle** somehow. But not bugs, and not bandaid-color.
Hi Ata :)
fl5/16 - annoying pests, or its homonym for excapes
hey faerie!!!!!
Hi, Alo! No, that's an fl6, I need an fl5.
AH! Haz, it was the homonym! I had the 4 version, but not the 5, doh!
am off have a good day everybody:)
Bye Jean
11 left. r's and s's.

Hello stidmama - nice to see you!
Mornin', Stid. the last do4,5 please ... my monkey wants to go outside!
hi stid!
The last do4/5 ends in the same letter - to sleep rough
morning, stid
Does anyone have the sa6,27?
hi Atalante!
Hi all, clues for the Q words please
hi peri, you were in the grid yesterday! :-)
ends with the last letters of a recently traveling Babbler who went to Europe, peri
sa6/27 begins a sequence ending in the sa8. Use the first three letters of the 'secure' word, then three letters of what actors play on stage. The sa7/40 adds a vowel, then the 8 is pluralised
Hi stid, I saw my name yesterday :). tired to finish but got too tired. HOw are you doing with the grid today.
ty, Haz.. needed those.. great clues!
I have been on for 15 minutes and 'only' 148 words to go. :-) I got halfway yesterday and called it good enough.

Glad to help, Aloy.

Morning rae
hello rae
hi rae
yw
I just got an email from a poor girl in namibia...she was in a ham-robbery!
and both of her parents got lost...and now she needs me to help her bring 10.2 million dollars to the USA
oh boy - bet you are heading right over, eh? ;-0
oh no, raelite! poor girl, indeed! and she knows know one else who can help her in her hour of financial need?
Its that all rae?LOL
Raelite- Better help her quick. She sounds lovely. *snicker*
yeah well ham robberies are pretty serious
ROFLMAO... *giggle giggle*
any clues for fe5/16???
*shakes head
well, I am under 50, need an eyeball break...
Is "ham" code for something really important, like house or car or pet zebra or something?
no I think she meant armed robbery
fe 5/16 is like the le 5/10...
fe5: f+ea4/4
But if she was in a robbery, why does she still have 10 million dollars?
that is a good question.
thans stid and rae!!!
Or was she the robber? In which case, you're aiding and abetting!
She is very clever this poor orphened robbed girl to find a computer in her hour of need and send e mails
the letter mentions something about her father's house and his assets...
this is probable in internet scam -watch out
the last letter I got was about a guy they found in the desert who was really rich from oil money
I wrote back and told them my uncle clarence was very dear to me and that it was all an accident
I never got a response....
LOL rae
time for a nap bbl
I got one once that said some family in South Africa died in a plane crash and he had six million dollars in liquid assets and they tracked me down and I was found to be a distant cousin....or something..
ttfn
Bye Blood
I love that one...it's porbably my favorite of all the different ones I get
There's a book where a guy started responding to these e-mails...it's funny to see what he write and sometimes people respond back to him again.

Hi Hurshy -- were you able to go listless on the last grid?

this
i had other things to do so i didn't want to take all day
and i don't know yet about today. i'm not having such a good day.
im still having a rough time with the q...ive tried everything
just take my name, remove h and y, add q. it's just funny cause only the one vowel.
Me too. Dictionary rejects the only word I can find in the genuine dictionary.
but what's the OTHER q?
plural
plural
Jonsie - try the unbelievable - qu + 3 consonants, The other qis the pl of the 5
How can it have only one vowel when you can't get out of that corner with less than 2?
well I'll be . . . .
ty
wow, thanks a million
there's a really good hint from pida below
sally this is babble so type the letters rather than think logically
It's akin to the willing suspension of disbelief. Hello FMitch!
That u is a vowel no matter how you type it. ;)
Hey Haz, Thunder and rain is abounding at the mo.
We've had REALLY heavy rain as well.
Sally, and remember that the qu counts as 2 tiles, so you just have to add 3 consonants
exactly, sally. the word has 1 vowel - the u :)
fe 7/40 and the last fe 4/7
fe 7 with cost
fe7/40 - not having to pay a price, fe4/7 add an old fashioned term for before.
fe** french for father or priest
ty got them
Husband has arrived home - off I go to serve a gourmet meal. (Hallucinating again - Jacula says it's all those e's)
LOL Haz See you tomorrow

Sharidan - its is the plural of the other one - does use vowel
majmom -- did you get that ge 5/7 combo yet?
no cant figure it got the 5/14 and 6/24 combo
do not like Fs today
majmom -- when I child is asked a question that expects the affirmative sometimes they answer, I "guess so" -- drop the u and the extra consonant
the Fs are not intuitive for me, Atalante!

eg - one who is without a big head, or without of sense conceit
DOH
hm...people without big heads...
does the sa8 end that way? or is it a compound? i can't figure it.
sa 8 is the plural of sa 7 -- do you have that?
when you're conceited - you have a big eg* --
sa8: sa+to and *** + not more but l***
sa8 - first 3 letters are that of an expesnive spice + parts that actors play
oh I got the clue deb, thanks
nope. (i'm not a very plural fishy person, in general)
thanks cnan and lynxxxxxxxxx
first eg4/6 please
HI everyone
hurshy: a very expensive yellow spice + an actor's part gives you the 7 -- plural for the 8
ge 5/14? the one that apparently leads to the 7/40 which i also dont have?
hi peri
eg4.6 - keen but drop the a
that sounds promising!
ge+ double conSonant+goose egg
thanks, lynxxx -- been looking for that one!
that leaves me just one more 7 (and 25 other words...)
missing some s's -- think they must be 5's and 6's -- anyone care to take a guess?
thanks rae
thanks lynxxx
i'm in the same boat cnan - have you got the hebrew ones that you find at the end of some psalms?

no, the only word I know that comes at the end of a psalm starts with a
but sometimes in hebrew... you know.... rebecca vs rebekah...
hint on the Hebrew psalm ender? Starts with fe?
oh you said STARTS with a
no starts with SE
oooh ooooh!!!! I just got an re7 and re8 all by myself!!!!
have that lynxxx
if you have a bible handy and you flip through you'll see it in italics
Its teh little victories that count :)
cybernan - also sh5.12 a sea sh*** but substitute te first l for a vowel
it sounds like the disfigured lady in "the cage" later turned into "the menagerie"... (star trek)
the only se 5 I have is the lily plural
(there are 2 like lynxx just mentioned)
(one of which is also hebrew! for the afterlife)
the only bible I have in the house is only in English. My hubby got it at his confirmation
anybody know so6,21?
have that too, lynxx
but in english, you still see this se5 hebrew word at the end of some psalms
trust me, i hain't got a hebrew bible either

yw
switch the middle letters of the 6 pl of what angels have, fit
re6/27
ha 5/12: ha + what matadors say!
ha 6/21: plural of what angels have
that gives me 12 se's, 10 sh's, 6 so's and 2 su's -- still missing 3 s's, if I counted correctly!
Fireworks!
fit1, rearrange the letters of the angel 6/21 then unplural it

the ge 5/14 that leads to the ge 7 is the stuff artists use to prep a canvas...

need ge 5/14, not one just clued

nice painting of mary mags hk
hi helen!
oh stid, i'll always need you!
go helen go
still need last sh5/12 and 5/18 please
just a little question here - i'm watching the news & i'm learning that it seems to be common practice (at least at this one dental clinic) to anethetize young patients for procdures, including cleaning - does anyone else find this outrageous?
last sh 5/12 is the jewish place where the dead go. often transcribed as "hell"
heli isn't in the grid *puzzled*
hi everyone - back for my last 60
the 5/18 is a bundle of something a sh*** of paper?
hi saphyre!
different end vowel Nan
found them -- thanks
tx chj - i never pictured her like this myself - don't know what i thought she looked like, but not this :)
need the 2 so 5/10 that are tofgether please
helen, some children are very afraid of dentists and the only way to make them comfortable enough to work on them is to sedate them. Others, like one of my children, have problems with muscle control and some sedation can keep them from chewing or tongue thrusting involuntarily.
have those, must be before that
maybe my painting can go out with your painting
magzel: bottom of shoe + vowel; then plural bottom of shoes
hmmm - well, there's sedation & then there's sedation - but there are so many dangers associated with putting someone under, it seems crazy to me -
Andree -- the place you put knickknacks and books? on a sh***?
must be first sh5/18 please
& no reason for kids to fear dentists -seems to me some behavioral desensitization makes more sense than putting kids under as a matter of practice
thx stid
3 left, last le word 6/18 please
yes, and in general I wouldn't think it's a good idea, but I think that when the choice is between good dental care or otherwise... (and some kids fear dentists because they have little reason to trust any adult -- but that's another topic)
but that's why it was on the news, seems this one girl is not coming out of the anesthetic after 2-3 days - not sure
last le word is the person who rents; the one who takes out the le 5 on a place
yeah stid - i see your point about the ones who can't trust any adult
oh man! that's really bad -- sounds like she had an unexpected reaction?
strike up the band! *dances over the grey tiles*
yeah - other patients are saying the dentist is a good guys & well credentialed - i just didn't realize it was so common
helen, have you had time to check the babblestory.com website? How do you think the colors/fonts are? I have a few minutes and was going to try tweaking it.
YAY NAN!!!! *joins in dance and tosses confetti*
i've seen my dentist have the adult lay down in the chair & then have the kid lay on top of the adult with the adult hugging the child - it seemed nice - i was sooooooo tempted to say - OUUUUUUCH, but i restrained my self, hahaha
Of course, you can't know how everyone will react to any medication (like the time I hallucinated on a very common muscle relaxant).
LOL helen!
^5 stid -- btw -- sera was the one who introduced me to babble about a year ago now.
yayyy nan!
oh! I thought it went the other way 'round! *grin* Bet she's really busy between kids and work!
thanks, metal
I should say!
thx stid, get the clue but no luck with word, still need le6/18
stid - LOL - sounds like that muscle relaxent targeted your brain! - sorry to say, i have not been following the story - too much guilt over this 'to-read' pile of stuff i have here next to the bed
Andree, try: opposite of "more" + either/**
She teaches comp. sci. and math at a university in Alberta
thx stid
I know the reading guilt. I am trying to get through "sailing the wine-dark sea" about the origins and contributions of greek civilization... keep getting distracted by bad editing (grammatical and stylistic problems)
last sh 5/12 please
I am in awe of people who get advanced degrees/work while growing a family... I barely tread water just being "Mama"!
last sh 5/12 is the hebrew abode of the dead...
oh stid - i so hate that - i am neurotic like that - i f i see a misspelling it's with me for pages & pages afterword
no idea stid, sorry
yep. So I have to put it down and go do other things for a while. It's not like it was the first draft (like my story with all its typos)...
stid - i'm not in awe of people like that - somewhere something is slipping, there aren't that many pure geniuses out there
eg7/36 please?
the phrase "the wine-dark sea" is from homer's odyssey is it not
eg 7: opposite of "id" + opposite of "more"
hi BA!
I think so, chj, but I read that in college over 20 years ago and my memory never was that great!
thanks stid. see, i still need you!
i know that sounded harsh -in my experience, people with kids in graduate programs were always difficult when it came to scheduling - can't have two #1 priorities
you again?!?!
brb
don't you have a life?
eg = lack of sense of self, freudian
Apparently not
yea, me either.
that's true, helen. For me, it had to be the kids -- even my "career" went out the window when I needed to be with my infant.
Wait you're on here everyday too!
hense why i'm here again.
We just bought a couch
yep
LOL! I love the civil conversations between babblers!
no saints have first home game at re-built superdome tonight :)
guess what st?
oh -- look at the time. Speaking of being a Mama, I have about an hour before my carling children come home from school. Need some "me" time... going to go watch some home improvement shows (not that they help) and knit. later all!
I got on lickety's! and i'm done with the e's! congrats on the couch! is it new?
bye stid!
bye stidmama
LOL!! stid - yeah, my tenant is having real problems with her choice, she's really not the mom type & gave up her career & has been an emotional basketcase since, getting worse all the time, kid's 1 1/2 already too
Bye stid! happy knitting
You finally got lickety's to work BA?
sitting on my butt and babbling for 15 minutes! hi all!
bye stid - good chatting with you - i intend to check out your story someday, she says wistfully
interesting convo, nope, you cant have/do it all when you have kids
yep. did you take that loveseat to portland?
hi Wyrd
hi wyrd!
hiya wyrd
I know! I'm on my last of 5 teenagers!
hi all :)
No we had to leave it behind. We bought a new couch at a furniture store
eg7/36 anyone please?
Aaron wanted this ugly green one at goodwill but I put my foot down
wow wyrd ! you're the last of a dying breed - big family, that is
nice! new furniture is the best. make sure aaron knows that he has to wear pants when he sits on the new couch
eg7/36 without the opp. of id.
yeah, i think so too helen, but its more expensive now than it used to be to have alot of kids
I made him sign a contract
Wow Wyrd - you deserve a medal -tho' I can't complain too much 'bout my two. My contraception talk could have been more effective but beside that OK
they are always a worry snow, your whole life im afraid
smart st.

Just looked. yay for liberals!
mo, ge4/155 is aparently a chemical you put on a canvas before painting on it. it has a double consonant.
i don't have the other one yet.
wyrd - actually, i didn't really blunder into anything, cause they had all flown the coop already
i like chavez as well. he's a little...um...eccentric? but really cool.
wow helen, you lucked out! ours were living all over and it was my fabulous idea to bring them all home, which i'm glad for, they knew they were wanted
thanks for the clue mab...but i still dont get it
and ana, i was talking about the free press that chomsky got from chavez. did you read about that?
Oh no. I misunderstood. I have not seen that.
he's bright, well=educated, very progressive, and understandbly worried about being knocked off by the cia.

Anyone have any brilliant ideas for supplying heat to pigeons in below zero weather?
bye Andree
That sound you just heard was my question coming out of right field. :-)
mkl - where are the pigeons at?
what about enclosing the coop and installing electric lights?
mkl are these pigeons in trees, or enclosed?
please? the second he4/5?
LOL mkl! lambswool lining for the coop?
i can't monkey it for the life of me.
mkl - details !!!!!! we need details here !!!! LOL
The coop is actually 20 by 14 feet. Too big to heat without costing a fortune. I have been using heat lamps the last few years, but am thinking some sort of radiant heat.
the inheritor of a will

solar panels?
thank you snow!
mkl - where do you have the coop? on your roof? on a porch? details !!!
and angb, saph, and cat.

yw blood
My chickens all go into a smaller, insulated coop to sleep. Keeps the temp about 30 degrees higher. Pigeons won't do that though. Solar panels won't work here. Middle of winter we only get 4 or 5 hours of light
you're welcome
yw bllodaxe - lol I have a picture of you knitting little blankets1
saph - brilliant!
lol smowy
The coop is actually a converted pole shed. 20ft x 14 ft x 14 ft high
3 to go
OH me - the kids got to me! Yw bloodaxe -I know you're not knitting anything! Middle age is approaching fast!
mkl - what is a pole shed?
haha..i was wondering about that!
go meta go !!!!
Pigeons handle cold pretty well. Just looking for a small area where they can be a little more comfortable and still have enough room to get along with each other
thanks helen - i feld dumb asking
felt*
A pole shed is used to keep a motorhome under. Just a frame with a roof. I enclosed this one. (I don't own a motorhome)
ahh like a portable car port
mkl - i am asking all these questions cause i am trying to think of a way you can use igloos - the dog houses - we use them for german shepherds who are outside dogs year round
mkl - what did you enclose it with ?
Just been off talking to the plague-ridden ones (daughter & her b/f). Seeing the discusssion about blankets for chickens... have a word with aknitter!
Yeah. Our dog and the chickens do fine. The stupid pigeons fight if you keep them in too small an area
man, 45 words left...that sure feels like a lot at this point.
mkl - if the 'floor' of you shed can hold igloos, i would try those - when the pigeons get cold, they can go in there - we put straw down - you may have to clean frequently though
what do you need blood
lol jacula - yes!! aknitter to the rescue!!! LOL
Actually an igloo would work well if I can figure out how to install heat in it
Enough of this. Let's clue somebody
how about the heat element they use for waterbeds
a whole lot of l's and s's saph.
i'm going to take a little break and come back in a bit.
helen - the cavity wall insulating chaps are coming on Wednesday.
Ah. Now that's a thought. Not too many amps. Slow, steady heat.
LOL jacula !! you gotta let me know how that works out for you ----- and still no word from my roofer :(
exactly - i use them when starting seedlings
you still here st?
Nobody needs clues? Are we all finished?

mkl - I use a low-wattage heating element to keep my rabbit/guinea pig shed off freezing in winter.
the ge7 would be nice please!

so6 Bottom of shoe + you and I
bottom of foot & you & me for the so 6/21

I'm off for now. Thanks for the suggestions with the heat. See you all in 5 1/2 hours when the new puzzle pops up
jacula - exactly the same thing with me - i think gremlins get in our words lists & remove words when we're not looking - i KNOW i had put in sa6/21 !!!
Helen - it's an 'h' word for 'apertures' with an extra vowel in it.

I'm gone for a bit... have to set VCR's for tonight's taping, etc.
Hi jilli! 'See' you in a bit. I must have a serious search for words now.
sorry it's the other one I need
finally made it past the half way point!!
congrats zTink!
snowy - other lo5/10 is the one who misses out.
i'm not as good at this as some of you so I try to set my goal to at least completing half the puzzle
ztink...that is where I am usually happy at to
anything more is like a bonus
zTink - You get better at it the more you play, but you must only play in the way that is comfortable for you.
the clues that everyone gives are a great help!!
Oh, that sounded a bit preachy! I think you know what I meant, though.
not preachy
It's only practise zTink -It does get easier the more you play & some of the people here are frighteningly clever but it's all about fun & babblers are nearlt 100 per cent good fun
zTink - After the first buzz of getting a new grid, and I think most addicts will agree with me here, the clue giving and chat is the best fun!
here here
Yes. I do continue after the half way point and you're right, it does seem to get easier sometimes.
also, w/ time you'll pick up "babblets"--words seen only here...
71 and I think now I have to break out the lickety
fantastic crowd on the whole! Theres always a welcome & some very good laughs1
zTink - libarebel's right! You'll find all the words like 'phsaw' and miss something simple like 'beds'.
Jac, I hate when that happens!
lo one who loses out?
or then you start seeing something like bedding and you think that isn't a word that doesnt even make sense
zTink - You've been a member since 2003, I see. I guess you've resisted getting addicted. Well done, you!
so 5/10???
wurdy - that should have been 'pshaw'. Sorry, got distracted by the washing machine taking off on a spin cycle.
I once that "honest" was "most hone" ...
see, I knew that
thought*
For awhileI played a lot of Pogo games and then decided that it would be more worthwhile to exercise my brain here
remluc - Haven't done all the s's yet, but the so5/10 I habe is plural foot or shoe bottoms.
see, that is what I am talking about
so - one is a plural of the bottom of your shoe & the other is the bottom of your shoe, singular + a vowel
right, wurdy! :)
I need the other one by that one
back soon -drink break
Ooh, thanks, snowy! Almost the French sun. I didn't have that one. BRB - just nipping off to hang last lot of washing out.

clue for the qu's?
yeah, lol I need 59...I am onto monkey typing now

Angb, add that on to the end of what? I'm confused.
That's a good point Jacula - I have no idea
Moooch the letters that you have - se
Legal person's charge (fe*) + opposite of more.
OK - I'll try again se 5/12 is se + *** de dah
And the 6 is the plural
Last op I had, Ang (well, the first, really, not including giving birth stuff), the anaethstetist (no, that is one word I cannot spell!) wore bottle bottom glasses. I remember feeling sh*t scared when he gently stuck the needle in the back of my hand.... I was meaning to worry about, how will he see the monitors whilst I'm out? and all that sort of thing. Unfortunately, he knocked me out. However, I seem to have lived to tell the tale.
thanx Angb, finally a lightbulb went on!
I am gonna cry I am on the h's that is so many and I have to find 11 of them...probably all obscure nothing made up babble words *sniff sniff*
oops, I mean the l's
Mostly they are normal words wurdy
dont feel too bad...i have 14 l's left to find
all told, i still need 80 words
I am down to 30...broke out the list at 70
You'll get there graely -
Jacula - condensation comes about thru two different temperatures. Maybe it's quite warm in op theatres and so glasses don't steam up
just found three of the la's boy do I feel silly...what a cowboy does
any clues for the two le5/14's?
sorry mooch I don't have those yet
Something you keep your accounts in but drop a middle consonant. for the first one mooch
And change the last letter for the second. What it really means I have no idea.
thanx!!!
yw - it actually means accounts book! Someone just can't spell.
yes, thanks
Ang - just came back from nattering to daughter & the other germ-ridden one again. I hope you're right about temps & operating theatres.
So do I - plenty of vitamin C though Jacula to fight off those bugs I think is the order of the day. Sees me right (usually).
I am lurking here - waiting for the grid to change. Sad. I have plenty of things I should be doing.
As a smoker, Ang B, I make a point of taking slow-release Vit C tabs + lots of fruit.
am done with the l's yipee!
Ang - It's abvout 4 hours yet, before the grid changes.
Me too - the cigs and the wine knock it out of me.
re 5/12 and re 5/16?
I know its 4 hours - that's why it's so sad LOL
Ang - at leadt you get lots of sunshine, too, if you're in Aus!
re 5/12 - completes something again without an e
NZ Jacula. Can't tell the different on the flags on the site. But it is only spring here - but we do have sunshine today.
Oh no, you're not in Oz! Even better! You're in NZ. A place I intend to visit before I die. That and Taz.
The re 5/16 is like the 6/27. but drop one of the double vowels
You're in Auckland - as is a friend from another internet site.
ty anqb got them
'They' say NZ and Taz are like UK was 30 years ago, plus being nice and green (as in foliage, grass etc). I think that sounds lovely!
Better watch a comment like that as there are a number of Aussies on this site ... although I would agree with you LOL. Yep, Auckland - which other site do you go on?
I was born in the UK - Somerset. My family came out here 40 years ago.
Ang - Friends Reunited.
Ang - I remember a huge drive to get people from UK to move to Australsia 40 years ago.
any clues for bottom left r. both are r/4. have one meaning to go up
When my family were thinking of immigrating the choices were Durban, Adelaide or Auckland.
I remember a girl from my class in top year of juniior school (Jacky Golby) and her family moving to Oz at that time. We were 10 at the time.
zTink - to get up
think I have that one
fl7/44 but not the bird one?
Sorry - didn't read it - add the first two letters of the famous model who designs bras.
bichon - sins of the fl***! Plural it! Think skin!
ztink - either a form a currency or a Canadian/Metis hero
great Jacula
Jacula - specs, cigs, and about the same age ... do you drink wine as well?
As an artist, you might fl5/18 out a model, especially if you are Rubens, or you have taken note of the recent guidelines that models on the catwalk should no longer stive to be size 0!
You still watching the chat Bloodaxe?
Ang - you know I do! Aussie chardonnay, what else?
I have two left and can't figure out either one. un6/30 and so6/21
un-place to put $$
Oh no - Not Aus chardonnay. Try some NZ Marlborough savignon blanc ... superb. Aus cannot make white wines like NZ - I'll give them their reds though.
All I can say Ang, is that I'm glad I'm not Mum to a 6 & 8 yr-old. I'm far too old for that, but not far too old for a toyboy (which I have). *grins* My two are 19 & 22 and the 'step' will be 12 in December.
Yep, but they are getting better. Just had lunch and had to fix the loaf of bread which the 8 year old cut with a dinner knife LOL. But their father is my toy boy - but only by 6 years.
thanx Newbaby!!
yw
un6/30 - being this would make you feel afraid. You don't feel protected.
thanx Jac, any clue for the so6/21?
The so 6/21. Take the 5/21 which is on the bottom of your shoes and add a vowel before the last letter
Beaten you |AngB! My toyboy is 12 yrs' younger! LOL.
Better go - toy boy home from work. Bit early so it won't have gone well. Good luck all.
Ang - that's the trouble with toyboys, they can be truculent. As Babble has seen with me and mine, over time...
But we love 'em!
thanx Angb for all your help
Mooch - did you get the so6/21?
thx Angb
I seee you did. Well done! Was that your last word?
yes, fireworks finally!

Fireworks for Mooch! *~&*~&~*~*~*

hi again stid
ooh! a knitter! I learned something new today! A couple weeks ago I saw a woman knitting and when she did "knit" her needle was on the other side of the stitching... so today i tried it, and it makes a much thinner and less "cabled" sort of knit. *proud look* :-)
my hubby has resorted to helping me (when he wants me to stop playing) tonight he's at a meeting but anyway...he turns out to be a pretty good player!
hi. taking a break from story writing. my characters are not cooperating this evening.

stid no money or fabric left? Did you purchase it all?
chj, I just read Tom the little bit about ichy and the archery team. He is incensed at the injustice!
Hello carra! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
no money Natasha, I spent it all on Babble Tshirts and chocolate...
Min, take the qu5 and add 2nd vowel plus the snake letter
how about a chocolate babble t shirt, the best of both worlds
both worthy uses for your money, stid!
yes..it was a grave injustice that little ichy was not allowed to represent her country at the olympics
just slobber some melted choco on your babble shirt
I agree, chj! :-) too bad you weren't a lawyer in those days...
lbdawger, the 2nd vowel is e, but there is no e in the word I don't think. What am I missing with this word?
