Argh, that is even worse, Fran! I need the fi4 more often than the p4!

hello !!!
hoorayyyyy. i'm feeling panic-y so it's good to be here, hahaa
the other Q5 means "sort of"
why the panic?
what's up, !!! ?
fran, I'm thinking hard about those q's, but...I just have the 5/16
i get panic attacks while i'm trying to sleep sometimes... i don't know :/
jilli, you smash a bug by squ***ing it
those are the pits
fran, I got one bug one, 5/18, what... ? the other?
oh sorry !!!. i have those too sometimes
of course, fran
qu7/44 is the one who does it
babble is a good cure

Night jane

i'm glad there's not 200+ words for once!
Thanks for The help got the Q's now
i fear we will have utter ch5/14 with words being typed into the ch4/6 today
we'll have to break out the ho 5/16

TO, she's on a break from babble right now, wasn't getting enough sleep
oh boo i miss her

I want "epee!"
I am with you, Ankh. But epee doesn't want us :(
absolutely, helen, and Christmas and hanukkah and ramadan and....
i'll tell her you guys were all asking about her, maybe we can draw her back in! :-)
and rehostat
sorry rheostat
not the fourth of july but we have the first of july
*grumbles and drops her fencing stance after Sprite's sympathy*
Fran tell her we were asking and we are all waiting to see her back on the log
i will tiny!
I'll second that, fran
of course we have hallowe'en -- it began as a semi-pagan festival in ancient Britain.
i think most countries have a fourth of july, they just don't do anything special for that day! :-)
also, do you guys have roads or just dirt paths? and do you have books, also?
My phantom is Toast
The country that really goes all out for Hallowe'en, though, is France.
If anyone needs me, I am in the bathroom taking a shoa.
huh - seriously jili?
la- funny!
"moast countries" ??? In Europe???
lol la!
;) just kidding
No, I thought more Mexico, with the Dia de los Muertos... what does France do?
erda, i'm saying the fourth of july happens everywhere, it's just not independence day for them.
pois
I think just about all countries have all the days in July :D
Thanks TO
thanks TO! how did i miss that.
*heads for penalty box*
that's what i meant jilli! :-)
well jili - religious holidays i understand are international - but i always thought that thanksgiving was a purely american holiday - pilgrims & indians & all that - did you guys have pilgrims too?
So, what is it in Croatia then???
I know, fran
I think they call it the fourth of july in Croatian, Erda.
We have nothing special in july that I can think of maybe Christmas in July
helen, keep reading my profile!!!
No they don't!! I'm from there
Helen, they had all KINDS of things. Jesuit missionaries. Bride-ships.
We were in France one year at the end of October -- kids and adults get into costume and have huge town parties --- civic decorations are something else. In Bordeaux there was a carved pumpkin display at city hall that would make Martha Stewart eat her heart out!'
So they don't have a calendar in Croatia, Erda? They don't count the months and days? I thought they did?
Erda, that makes you the second Croat in my whole life! Mayor Bilandic was the other.
We dont go all out for Halloween either
no way jili - there's no way i'm reading your profile anymore tonight! remember me - wedding, red shoes, OPEN BAR!!! LOL
Hiya Ankh -- I am from Dubrovnik...
there is a big coarving competition here at the mercer museum each year. the entires are on lien too
jilli, helen will read it tonight and then just ask you about it again tomorrow!
Look, grid has C oatia! I'm sorry , I don't know the geography there very well; I recognize Dubrovnik's name but couldn't place it on a map. :(
lol fran - nope - i may be falling down on my bed pretty soon - it's all i can do to type these words here
ankh, without the a at the end, it's a word.
stalled at 108 -- would like to get a couple more before I call it a night. --- still looking for that darned po7 and po 8
Down on the bottom of the Adriatic. I should know who Mayor Bilandic is, but I don't. Been gone from there for a long, long time!
wellthey are on line, too! they are onlyon lien if the entrants don't cough up the entry fee
I've got 72 left to find, so I think I'll call it quits for tonight. Have to be up in 5 hours for work :-(
Bilandic, Chicago in late 1970s -- oops, wait, I'll be right back
nan, po7 starts with the "disappearing" word
99 left, brb
last part sounds like southern "ter"
later natasha!
steve goodman wrote a song - it took 3 men to replace daley - michael, bill and dick - LOLLLLL
good night natasha
oh i loved steve goodman
There used to be a holiday in China called the Double Tenth - the 10th day of the 10th month - i.e. this coming Tuesday here. It's now held in Taiwan and celebrates the downfall of the Ch'ing (Qing) Dynasty in 1911 and establishment of the Republic of China. It also happens to be the date my father died in 1966 so I remember it.
good night natasha
jilli is a walking encyclopedia
ah -- finally got it, thanks
with a little help from google - lol!
i know, jilli is so full of knowledge.
i met steve goodman when he played at my college & i sat with his wife & talked with her & played with his 2 kids in the cafeteria when he went to do his show - i missed that show but i had a great time chatting with her!
first time I ever heard of that term
I love jilli.
i loved 'a dying cub fan's last request'
ooo thanks, sprite - love you too

haha owl, good plan
lol - im with you TO
with cake thrown in for good mesure, and donuts for breakfast
Finally used the 'up' in a word. Not at the beginning though.
Helen, I lived in Riverdale, Oak Lawn, Elk Grove, Rogers Park, Chicago proper (several times), Franklin Park, and worked in LaGrange.
Great diet, TO :)
ankh - i live near harlem & irving - went to high school in river grove
E. coli is in all of us... just not in our MOUTHS, and the less said, the better!
Helen, Norridge!
8000 W. Addison, then!
ankh - what's your problem? can't put down ro5/10?
Hiya all
LOL ankh - my old neighbor!!!!!!!!
where did you go to high school?
hi ornith, nice picture :D
leftover from the muppet theme !!!
i figured :)
Yes! Boy, Harlem Irving changed so much... was only lowly strip mall in my teens. Hmm, ro5/10... ha. Hi, Ornith. Helen, Steinmetz.
Hey Ornith! Lovely icon :)
yip yip brrrrring! :P
omg - what year did you graduate? my best friend fromgrammat school went to steinmetz (school for trouble-makers & bad-asses - i'm afraid of you now) but she was the smartest girl in our class
I was supposed to be class of 76 at Steinmetz, gradded Elk Grove in 75 when parents divorced, back forth back forth
yes - the hip has really changed a lot - when we moved here, it was a lowly strip mall, but i came from the inner city where there were no strip malls, so it was amazing to me
ca7/48, my favorite for today. Compound animal(s)
75 here !!
where did you go to grammar school?
The HIP! I used to go to the roller rink up Harlem... loved it. Lived out there before The Brickyard. Grammar, about 7 schools... not Chicago, all around it. My brother went to Canty.
i went to st. priscilla - ah yes, thunder mountain!!!!
aha, thanks sprite
& what was the name of the roller rink - damn - i can't remember it now!!!
*tries novel spelling of ketchup for Sprite*
THE HUB !!!!!
The Axle.
Best buddies got married in St. Priscilla's. But my apt bldg was across from the one further west, with the ski-slope roof.
Ah, the Hub, you're right!
ankh, I tried that too. it's animal+animal... a bottom feeder
i went to that roller rink all the time too!
Txs, Ornith!
I skated with an elderly man who had LIGHTS on the bottoms of his skates... I will remember and love him forever for that, he took me out in the dark couples only cuz his wife was tired... as good as Fred Astaire.
Txs, Sprite, Ornith, got it....
wow - i was happy to go forwards without falling down, lol - i was in awe of people like you - now ice skating is a whole different story, the 2 are totally unrelated
ca7/48 also a great pitcher
Oh, me too, I could go backwards with help, that's all. But the elderly gent (I was 16 or so) was SO good, he made me feel like Ginger Rogers. Ooooh, aaaah.
ankh - that is so cool!! - i was very unhappy when they tore it down - now there is one of those game places for kids where you play games & win coupons to exchange for crap
of source, maurice lenell is still there, so it smells the same :))
Darn, I hate to hear that -- the Hub was such a wonderful place. I am glad to hear that about Maurice Lenell, though. I couldn't think of their name the other day... I'm gettin' old.
ankh - don't say that - cause i am a year older than you!!!
aits
oops
lol helen, for a second I thought I'd done that, just found that word myself
lol orn
well, Helen,SO nice to meet you -- sorry to have bored everyone else! I need to get going. Dear One is flipping lights out as I type!

Back for the last few... now where are they hiding?
phantom - euphoria

susan, as I was told, when I get it I'll say "AH!"
What on earth kind of a word is THAT?
It's not even in the cheat sheets!
it means an efeminate person
i think its british
It usually ends in "ter", susan -- Brit and Aussie slang
you hear it in some monty python sketches
I've heard poofter. That's what I was trying for. It is odd what words they accept and then I noted they wouldn't take 'negro' once.
Good morning Babbler's x
and they won't take internet

I don't get the egglayer clue
Jili, where did you find your nifty little turkey/flag? Oh, female egglayer...add a chicken house
Ok own up, who has my satnav charger. i have looked everywhere !
googled Canadian Thanksgiving Images, Susan.
Good morning all....are we all well and happy today??
It's the chicken house I can't connect to the egglayer
If I can find that I think I'll put it on my blog for tomorrow! No Canadians ever read the blog, so it'd be quite a cute touch!
hello flask!
If you type in what you 'think' it might be, you'll get it...it just doesn't show up very easily.

Morning. Why does it allow some plant names, like the ho5/12, yet won't allow acer, of which there are loads in my garden? Grrrrr!
hi haz! i love Qs, i hate when it just sits there like the other day.
hi hydra!
well ... mathematical palaeontology and such stuff! not sure whether I'd call that universally interesting ;)
Yes, at least it made itself useful yesterday!
i know hydra and i must have typed acer 12 times over the course of this one before realising it just wouldnt work :(
Morning Haz
I know this has been asked before, but what was the clue for po7/48..thanks
Oh - and hydra
Hi FranMag. As you can tell, I'm feeling grumpy. Will force myself out to the gym in an hour or so.
Glad you agree, dingleberry (lovely name!)
FIREWORKS. Does anyone need clues before I'm off to bed?
helenary, it's a duragatory term for homosexual, starts with the "disappearing" word.
Omg - I'd need a degree to understand what that was! I thought pal..... was digging up fossils. And I could believe that you should bury maths. LOL. But I am sure that I have got things round the wrong way
helen Alt spelling for homosexual
po7 is nasty word for gay, alt ending
Wow, mkl, I'm impressed. Well done!
ty hydra - i like yours too, i love mythology
yay mkl!!! thanks, but i'm not ready for clues...unless they jump out at me.
mkl - that is great
good job mkl
palaeontology is half digging up fossils and half analysing fossil data back in the lab ... and the analysis is always maths maths and more maths
po7/48 and i know the first 4 letters well, but not the ending
reverse hat helen
ata, you must be very well-balanced to be so artistic and yet able to do math and analysis.
Sounds great Ata - another world in a way. Love to hear what you do for a day job sometime.
thanks Dingle!!
:D
And Atalante can do babble and is kind to animals. We hate her.
i don't know why ha4/6er is not a word, has no one else heard of the running group that calls themselves that?
actually, there's a good number of scientists who are part-time artists as well, we were discussing the matter the other day in an arty forum I frequent. Some of the best artists there are scientists too - one's doing a PhD in virology, one's a museum biologist ...
oh virology would inspire some great conceptual pieces
haz, if we find out she's gorgeous too then we'll really hate her!! :-)
gtg peeps bbl
laters dingle!
Wouldn't that just put the tin hat on it?
you're quite safe with that one Fran! maybe when I was a baby ... but it went downhill after that!
Ata - music is definately tied to maths as well - you don't sing do you?
lol ata!
I sing in the shower :P It makes my best friend cringe though, she's professionally trained as a singer / musician!
Anyway - thanks everyone. I was starting to get a bit down. Have now levelled out, and will give myself 1/2 hour before getting back to it. Thanks your are all cherubs
I'm not really any good at maths. I#m pretty good at statistics, though, and I think that's because statistics is based on *patterns*, and patterns are something I can do, in science and art
yay Ang!! *dance*
good to hear it angb!
Now that's what I need - loud music and dancing.
sati
aaw, do something i don't have ata! :-)
oops!
cheers ata lol
Hi everyone, a bit smaller grid today, how is it?
hi penny! i'm liking it.
pooh-e-cat - got that? LOL otherwise prounounced as a cat who poos a lot
I decided to start at the bottom today
ata said a wo-ord!
oh poooooo *creeps off*
come back!! we still love you. :-)
It's alright Ata co's we are not here as we are booth working so it doesn't count :)
woot! :)
oh you're not here either? didn't think I saw you!
Im trying my best but the dang phone keeps ringing
morning fmitch pap :)
hi marso
and LOL please all note how beautiful my cat's eyes are - in my pic :)
wow, i thought you got the pic off the internets, what a great picture and what a beautiful cat!
what's the theme today
Gorgeous eyes and beautiful markings. My mog is black and white and lacks all that subtlety.
Is it your cat Ata? Has the most beautiful eyes
nooooo its my pretty little kitty :)
columbus day and canadian thanksgiving penny
Oh, that's right, Happy Thanksgiving Canadian friends
I'll go to columbus day later, just had to show off Silverclaw for a bit!
My kinders will be doing columbus activities today
my cat managed to get the best of both her mum and dad - stripes from her tabby farm cat dad, and burmese shape and stature and poise and size from her black burmese mum!
burmese are like fluffy siamese? or do i have that wrong?
ashen
thank you
thanks frances, missed that one.
Oh bu----
You're welcome.....should I do more????
maybe a longer one this time frances. :-)
nope, fran, those are himalayans and birmans etc. burmeses are like this: http://www.burmese-cat.com/catphotos.h tml
You never know your luck....
very elegant, very streamlined, short coats, oriental faces, one heck of a yowl
i see, very pretty.
Sounds like you're describing po4/6 spice
no kidding haz! she's in Paris for fashion week, hanging out with katie holmes, her new BF.
LOL Haz!
I know - what's with the sunglasses? Do they think people won't recognise them or something?
but it looks Cool
parently
just the opposite i think haz!
they are hoping to be recognized, but not have to make eye contact.
I wonder if any of these celebs actually have anything in common? do they talk about anything but men, babies and fashion?
I saw one picture where they seemed to be wearing evening things, but with sunglasses on!
i saw that one too haz, totally threw off the look.
I bet they don't do babble.
so many almost words, it's driving me bonkers
well, it's a safe bet they don't talk about mathematical paleontology.
bet they'd only get 3 letter words
But Victoria has written a book....
lol ata! except for the girl who played princess amidala, she actually finished college, took a break from acting to do it.
.......are you sure she wrote it?
natalie portman
Star Wars actors are clever lol. Hayden wants to give up acting and become an architect!
I don't know Frances. I have a grave suspicion that ghost-writers were involved. It would explain David's ability to contribute to the literary scene.
I think literary might be going a bit too far ...
poor ghost-writers, i picture them running around taking notes and having to form sentences from bits and pieces of conversation.
Literary in the widest sense of the word!
Do you think she has someone ghost write her po4/5 cards home?
I think she would text instead.
Has anyone noticed the the e letters are not in the right places?
They are generally useless in making the words I want to make.
penny, i know what you mean about the non-words, you think you have a great word and you're trucking along and then it stops.
and then it stops
true angb!
react for one
crease another!
so5/12ific
There's an re5/10 that starts that way - it finishes with a vowel
been there fran
just found that one a little while ago haz.
at least there are at least 2 fish in the grid! (plus a plural fish)
Thx haz
My word is creatin
ata said a wo-ord!!
I'm not seeing that re word
Twice!
penny, another word for lasso or lariat
re plus the beginning of the babbler's name who just can't stop giving away words
GAH!
Poos isn't a word - it is in our house
I'm appalling today!
But we're very tolerant and are prepared to forgive you, Atlante.
no, still appealing ata!
i am stuck with the ta4/5, second one, after the Mexican chips. Help please??
isn't that a ro word? I must be drawing a blank
ooh, thanks for the chips, didn't see that yet
helen, stick an h in something black and sticky
yes, thanks helen!
*shakes head* I need chocolate
is chocolate in the grid? probably knowing my luck!
thanks FranM!!!
lol! chocolate sounds good.
yw helen!
yum
No, the mexican thing and the french pea are all that I've found, I think.
Oh, and the fi4/8, of course
french pea?
and i don't know why the fi doesn't have an er at the end, not fair, LOL
Yes, one letter away from good deportment
Hmmm I was going to ask that Fran
it does penny.
Oh - and I thought there was a Maori word in the grid. That the balls on string that the women dance with
not the way I'm entering it, LOL
po4/5 is the French pea, usually small.
I found that proper way of spelling faeces!
The A A Milne way?
angb, that's what they are called in Hawaiian also, po* balls
Yes, there are some theories that Maori come from Hawaiki - sound familiar - now however they say they originate from China or at least Asia.
there are common (or similar) words all across the pacific, it's fascinating.
even between my mom's island (kosrae) in micronesia and hawaii.
well, duh, no wonder it won't take that fi6 word that ends in er. I already had it entered.
lol penny!
all you saw was red?
Why does not a casher en6/24?
Because it's a cashier who does that.
Doh!
i tried at least twice angb!
English - what a stupid language!
yeah, try teaching it to 5 year olds, LOL
It's a great language, but just don't expect logic!
are there any strange Ws? i'm missing one and i'm sure i tried all the "real" words.
I have enough problems with my just turned 6 year old. I cannot stop him saying all the ed sounds.
don't know, I only have 8 so far
I've got 7 ws
I'm missing three
I've got 10 and nothing particularly peculiar.
a clue please for co6/27?
i don't have it yet flask
I don't have it
hello fellow Babble Babes
do you all want me to list my thirteen Ws? or are you still searching.
hi colhad!
HI Colhad
ok thanks both of you....ah'll come back to it!
howdy doo Angb and Fran
I'll wait, FranMag, but maybe the others want them.
co6 = two persons introducing a show
got that one Kat,,,ty!
or co + ho 4/5
Thanks Kate
thanks kate!
ty
Flask co6/27 is a palm. co + one of our US friends beginning with u
someone gave the clue for co6/27 earlier as "south american palm nut". Didn't help me much, still don't have it!!
central American palm tree with large nuts
good clue, ty
Sorry Flask, there is a cons between. co+cons+our US friend
Haz - I have a question - I just vanished for a while - one of my good friends phoned up and said her little pup had been run over wahhhhhhh, fractured her pelvis in 4 places and somehow disattached her pelvis from her caudal vertebrae. Is that - um - treatable???
co plus what the Germans were called in World War 1 and then second vowel.
just found a co6 24 that I thought was spelt with a K
thanks kate, frances and ishult.
oh no ata!
how sad
You're welcome Ata sorry to hear about the pup. Hope she's OK
Gosh, that sounds pretty horrendous, Atalante. She'll have had x-rays to determine all that and it'll be up to the vets to decide whether it is going to be fixable or not. Fingers crossed they can, but it will be expensive and involve a long recovery.
your welcome FranMag, but I still dont have it!!!!!
did you see haz' clue ishult?
a clue for the o8/50, I guess you could probably say that someone will op4/5 the door to ca4/5 a fi4/8ing rod :P
Ishult - try my clue below - 4.18.
op8/50 it is actually
thanks colhad, got that earlier, it's been in previous grids.
urf yes, I thought expense and time would be involved. she was taken into the vet hospital last night and is getting transferred to her local vet around now. friend wants me to be utterly positive, of course, but I'd rather be realistic ... poor little babe!
Finally got it!!!
yay lshult!
it was actually a bit of a fluke find for me, just a flatout guess
Poor little dog. I know what you mean - if the result isn't going to be good you wonder if it's worth putting the pup through all that. I hope it works out well.
Well done Ishult!
am keeping my fingers and toes crossed for her!
ata, some friends of mine took in a puppy that had been run over with less injuries and it died later for no apparent reason. they think he had other internal injuries that they couldn't treat. so sad.
that's cool colhad! you're a babble fiend!
*gloom* meh. must cheer up. gloominess won't help matters!
(Checking Atalante's entry for any words given away)
(No, none - she's off the hook, unlike the fi4/8)
almost a to4/4, but no, not this time.
oh wow! a whole post without any words! go me!
NOOOOOOO
omg *big gloom* LOL
LOL!!!
rofl!!!!!
po4/5 for anyone who hasn't got it yet.
hi une! where were you when were using you as a clue?
what??
was I the french pea??
you are the end of a co6/27.
co6/27 - co , consonant plus an American babbler starting with u. That's you!
ok, I'm going to shut up now and finish the grid *giggles* *checks for words*
aahhh :-)
i can finally see my sailing ships in my icon.
what is the co4,6 right before the sound a dove makes
chicken co**
And time for me to take a break. I'm going to be so disciplined today, you just won't believe it. But I've just found another word....
I have that one
Bye everyone!
before that one, une
later haz!
penny, i have a co4/8 before that one
co** salmon
I have that one too, it's in between those two
rhymes with the po4/8 word
bye Haz!
LOL, I don't have the po4, 8 yet, guess I better look for it
penny, it's the sound of something disappearing
I have that one, too, it's the word right after and before the dove sounds
rhymes with the top of a house
i must be missing that one too, did you say it was co4/5?
co4,6 my only co 4 to find
Maybe it's the co4/6 right after the dove sound. To hit someone.
rhymes with po** spice
Fran did you get your last W? I have them all now
not yet frances
back
i have wa x 9 and wi x 4
it's a wa

Hi folks. Just turned the ch4/6 log back on. (There were beasties under the bridge when I arrived.) I now have fireworks.
hi Jac
congrats :)
co & atilla the *** & 2nd vowel - is that easier?
congrats, jac!!!
YAY, Jacula!
OH! I was looking for the Baltimore spelling, doh!
ty, Saph!
lol
saph - That's a good clue for the co6/27 palm tree.
thanks
good morning/ day to all. congrats to Jacula!
hi abe
Yes, my good Midwestern roots have withered... soon I'll be asking for my groceries in a sack instead of in a bag. Morning, Abe.
Hi abe.
The sun's come out at last & the garden's calling me. I have summer plants to get into the greenhouse.
Happy Monday.
Sacks are what groceries go in, bags are for diapers. And all sodas are called Cokes.
Ankh - you mean your Midwestern ro5/10.;)
sack is what santa brings toys in - my kids are all grown and I don't drink cola :)
in NY, there is a division between "soda" and "pop"
*slaps self with a fish!* Whoops. Yes, in Chicago you get pop, in Virginia, you get soda.
upstate is pop - downstate is soda - I'm a downstater migrated to souther maryland so I am all mixed up
Also in Chicago, sometimes all pop is Coke.
lol bunny in the UK we have carrier bags for shopping, sacks for nappies and soft drinks
In downstate NY, NYC, Long Island, you have soda. In Albany/ Buffalo/ Rochester, you get pop
I'm in Texas... enough said :)
you can't slap yourself with a f4 today!
Ankh - w + ho4/6 + s! LOL.
*slaps self with a phantom perch!!!* Sheesh!
originally from westchester NY (New Rochelle)
heheheee
aaaaaggghh....
Is perch in the grid then?
I 'm from Westchester too, Saphyre!
it's a wonder any of us can understand eachother with all the variations
lol kth
Kthdsn - sacks for soft drinks? I've got soil, potatoes & coal in sacks but never a drink. Do you mean that Caprisun stuff?
what part Abe?
oh I missed a comma out
I grew up in Ossining, Saphyre
New Rochelle... read a book about the settlement. Don't suppose it's still full of Iroquois and Abenaki at this late date.
nappy sacks and soft drinks were two seperate things
Jac, here we can buy dirt in a bag, but not soil in a sack.
It's OK, I wasn't sure what nappies are. Wet wipes?
:-D
diapers
Settled by the Huguenots - so much for the Indians
I should never move.
Bunny, nappies are diapers, not wet wipes
bunny - the birdy perch is in the grid. (ro5/10) It's in the poultry ark (he7/40 or co4/6).
Yep, so much for that.
my mum lives in toronto, we argued loads over language when I visited her, she was standing in line for the elevator with a stroller, I was queuing for the lift with a buggy
Any clues on the 8?
At least she stood IN line, not "on line"
LOL kthdsn.
lol kthdsn. hey, i stand "on line" all the time! :)
op8 not closed + what you put on your leg when it's broken
Anybody use "pram" instead of buggy or stroller?
op 8/50 opp of close & what is put on a broken wrist of leg
op8/50 - compound word. A type of mine.
lol une gmta
a pram is different to a buggy here
LOL!
excellent une
open
a pram lies down and a buggy sits up
Ankh - In UK a pram (formerly perambulator) is the big thing babies can lie down in. A pushchair is a big sit-up thing and a stroller or buggy is the small fold-up variety.
*gives abe a look* And where are you standing ON line? In a CNN studio, on the tarmac? It is CNN who brought tarmac and "on line" to an innocent nation!
a pram is a coach carraige and abuggy is a stroller
Oh, Jac, Kth, thanks, never knew!
Right. Time I rescued my plants. Happy Babbling!
then there's "in hospital"
I haven't seen a pram in years - I had one for my kids though
*remembers first CNN report about people standing "on line" for Broadway tickets; Ankh kept looking for the line they were standing on*
*smiling innocently*, Ankh, there is always an invisible line under my feet while i wa 4/8 for something. I stand on it!
Hmmm, I just know one word for all three. Stroller. I guess we're a simple group. I'm gonna step out and smoke.
Oh, yeah, "in hospital" -- always wrinkles my ears.
The thing that drives me crazy about Southern MD is when I hear someone say hisself instead of himself
Are you Eastern Shore?
don't get me started, saphyre!
*can live with hisself (husself, actually)*
western shore - right on the bay
"Axe" as sub for "ask" is the one that drives me out of my tree.
Oh, before I go... it always fires my imagination when I hear older people say, 'He/she's under the doctor'. Can't tell you what images that phrase brings up.:)
oh yeah me too
and then there's akst
Lucky you, Saph.
lol Jacula!
under the doctor??
Can I ax you a question
I think you've axt enough
"Under the doctor"? What does it mean, really?
Une - they mean the doctor is giving them a course of treatment. LOL
No! No axing! or axting!
Short for under the doctor's care, I think.
that's a new one for me!
lol never heard that one ..under the dr is strange
Hi Haz.
hi Haz
I was a teen working in a law office, when I was told that one of the lawyers was "on trial." I was horrified; what had he done?
Hi Haz!
Hello Jacula - it's the well-known phenomenon again, I'm not here, I'm cleaning.
Another one that gets me is 'pacific' instead of 'specific'. I'm surprised at how many people say that, even on TV.
they still use that at the hospital where I used to live, they put you under the consultant
Yeah, Haz, clean that grid right up.
Scooba and Roomba are very busy this morning while I babble :)
oh god, jac, i grew up with that--small town in Tennessee
As Supernanny would say 'It's just not asseptable'
or idear instead of idea
how many words are there
wish I had an EXpresso right now
177
177
Aaaagh, aaagh, Jac, you're right. It's awful. And newk-you-lerr for nuclear... the White House person STILL hasn't learned how to pronounce it, and he'd better study up quick! 177, Hollie.
The first time I ever had my tires rotated, the guy said "Want them tars bounced?" Didn't have a clue what he meant!
thx
177, Hollie
i hate when people say were instead of was
lol pastor
*broods about unasseptable ideers*
... and when they mix 'borrow' and 'lend' up.
And one time a guy told me he installed a new Four-Star furnace - he meant "forced air"!
In North Carolina, you don't lose something, or run out of something... it gits gone. "My pencil got gone. Where are the pretzels? Did they all git gone?"
Haz - I'm not here either. I'm in the garden.
People here tend to say "I were doing this" and "we was doing that", drives me insane
Ankh - Sounds like something Forrest Gump would say.
Yeah, Pastor! Or sending someone out to do a bowler inspection. The bowler man. (boiler! boiler!)
wow so when we get fireworks the words got gone
So we are figments of each other's imagination?
Right, Jac, not too far from Gumpland.
indeed!
Haz - we must be!
Ayuh, Saph, it means the werts done got gone.
lol Ank
Are you young, slim and gorgeous in your imagination as well?
I am!
Double negatives are common in speech: 'I ain't done nothing!' AArgh!
Aren't we all Haz?
if you've got questions for me, AX me later--am off for coffee
Hi Lickety :)
Haz - I am. I am!
Lickety, you are All That Is Good.
lickety, hey!
You're young, slim and gorgeous in real life, Lickety!
Bah, Une!
Haz - wow, what .... Um. ..... did we ever ..... ummmmmm......... did I really solve that clue for you?
Much as I'm enjoying this discussion, I must go. If it starts to rain again I'll have to do ironing instead of gardening.:(
sounds fun jac, cya
Or you can sit here and "iron" instead of sitting here "gardening" Jac.
bye Jac - happy gardening
Whoa... Lickety & Haz... who knew?
lickety - you've helped me with babble so much, you just don't know the half of it!
LOL Ankh. Byeee.
And I should get back to the cleaning. Spangle is clever but she's useless with a duster.
A robot that dusts - when will Irobot invent that?
howdy folks!
Byeee, Jac, Haz. Actually, bye all... life is calling Really Loudly! :) Gotta go. *PO _ _ !*
hi amanda
Haz - It's a pleasure!
bye Ank
You help a lot of us avoid mental breakdown, lickety! We do appreciate you. And now I go - Bye all, I'll come back later to finish.
bye Haz
anyone else need clues before I go?
I can't find my last F, i've got 6fi and 2fo, what's missing?
bye Haz and Ankh. Hi Amanda!
another fo
fo 5/16 fo 4/7 fo 5/16
i'm missing the first 5/16
oh not anymore :)
change the first letter of ho 5/12
ty
Ill be back later to clue - bye everyone
bye saph
bye Saphyre
buzby, are you in the room? It says you are on line. Do you know whether UPS is working today? The post office is closed.
Yes, it is
I know that the post office at the airport is open for Express only
Hi inge - UPS is working today - unfortunately they dont' get those post office holidays... :)
Yes, but they get double time and a half
*not really here, supposed to be getting ready for a meeting at 10...*
thanks, I need to mail plants to Faerie, so speed is of an essence. I will go with UPS
They only get double time on the day after Thanksgiving, Xmase eve, other "real" holidays that they work....
hello all - may i have clues for ca6/24 and ca6/21 please
YW inge - how 'bout those Tigers! :)
Boy the things you learn by asking an innocent question...
Woo Hoo Tigers
I couldnt believe that was the same team down the road from Orchestra Hall...
The good thing about UPS is the price comes with $100 insurance
ca 6/21 sounds like the nut, that starts ca
ca 21 probabbly means little house in Spanish
What kind of plants are you sending Ing?
ca 24 is the nut, ca 21 the little house
*off to meeting* see you later :)
variegated bamboo
I've never heard of that. Sounds pretty though.
like all bamboo, it is hard to contain, that
s why we have extra
ty inge got them - believe it or not in mocambique (just been for holiday) they call little houses same - Portuguese is suppose
I haven't tried my luck with bamboo yet. I'm a newbie gardner. Still trying to figure out the rose tree and how to keep new plants alive, lol.
we also have regular bamboo spreading like crazy. Does anyone have a panda bear ?
i don't have the spanish house one, my spanish sucks, can I have more help?
kth, ca + anagram of your third "a" word
oh ty bunny
I bet it would look good around a fish pond and provide alot of shade. It do well in the full sun?
wait I will ask the gardening expert
ca 7/48
the answer is yes, it loves damp ground and full sun. We like ours becasue it stays green until Feb/March, when other things come up again. Then teh bamboo turned yellow and sends up new shoots in the driveway cracks etc.
Oh, TY. I'll try that. I just put in the pond. First round of fish bit the dust, I need more shade. Just have some dwarf cannas on the edge right now.
got the ca7/48
Pen does not expect it to travel well, becasue it will lack moisture in the air. We packed it in plastic and hope it makes it
bichon- a type of fi 4/8 that is popular in cajun cooking
help with the R's on the left hand side? I have stretch
it's a compound word
I ordered plants in the mail. They had a damp sponge saran wrapped to their roots and were wrapped in paper towels at the top. Got here in excellent condition.
re 5/10 means lariat, re5/14 to extend one's hand to get soemthing, re 6/21 to make a new shape of sometning
bichon - please clue that ca7/48 again for the very thick
I don't know what lariat means lol
its a lasso
lariat = lasso (the word reminds me of a hotel chain)
Pen has never sent bamboo with roots before, but has had good results with mailing other plants, especially bromeliads
hi everyone!
Hi Annie!
ursh- a fi 4/8 that meows
Ursh, you can deep fry it in cormeal and eat it, type of fi 4/8
aaahhh - ty abe
Inge, congratulations on the Tiger's win from a Yankee fan
The Florida growers throw in lots of Spanish moss
yw ursh
Hi abe!!!!
He sent me some lily of the valley that did terrific!
Woo Hoo! Thanks Annie!

Hhehe, don't know what bromelaids are either. Do ya'll swap plants in a forum?
ypsi, yes, you just killed us, sob!
I do feel for the Yanks!
as 5 - pale in color (what you flick off end of cig)
still can't get the lariat one
ty bunny
my pineapple is the most famous bromeliad, all others are more decorative, no fruits. No, he just sends specimen to inquirers, who are just starting out with them. He also traded several of his colored pencil paintings with a grower in Hawaii.
Bonderman was awesome---this coming from a lifelong Yankee fan and I mean long!
re 5 - re + **t*ck of the Killer Tomatoes
lmao ty bunny
thx bunny
good clue Bunny
37 to go now
co6/27??
I saw a fruit coctail tree in a catalog, has peaches, nectarines, plums, and one other fruit all on one tree. Thought about trying it out, along with some irises.
and they were so wrried about Bonderman, when the game was rained out the day before
Hey Ypsi How was Dinner?
I thought Kenny Rogers was going to slip on the champagne and break his arm!
Turkey dinner was SO GOOD
inge, well I give credit to the spirit and talent of the Tigers...and looking forward to the Series, I hope the Mets make it
There is a place in westside of Detroit, taht creates those "fruit trees" for a lot of money. $ 50 and up
Steppin out fer a smoke.
yeah i was hoping it would be..
ypsi, that was really something....the team spraying the fans with champagne....i loved it
Beck-A did not come, stayed home w/ sick Mo
can you send me your apple recipe?
yes, it turned out so good
We couldn figure out why the Tiger lockerroom was all coverd with plastic, then we found out when the team came in. Wow!
I had some for breakfst :)
po7 please?
Yeah It would have been sad to walk on that plastic if they had lost
hi smithchick

Hydr the Pegasus are beautiful and your daughter and I would most likely go nuts togather in some of the faerie shops I've found
I shall let you know if she ever heads your way!
Do you know any good online fairy stores, faerie?
Ebay
Hydra just Google Faeries and you will find tons
type in stained glass fairy for a search, they have some pretty shelf sitters
never thought of Ebay for fairie things. Thanks.

Hi Vic :)
Of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are "It might have been."
the curse to which i referred in my original po4 is the fact that fi 4/8 is in the grid, this will be troublesome.
Hello, faerie, et al.
yay cleared a column of letters
Ah, yes, hurshy. I can see that much hilarity will ensue from that fi4/8.
oh yes, very troublesome

Hi Nancy
Hello, NANCY.
I think they will be under lock and key, but I'm not sure where it will be spent. They are now 18 and 19 and therefore eligible for jail, but because they were a lot younger when the offence was committed they won't be sent there.
Good morning Nancita!

cat owners check out my post in babanon under "other interests"
that o in the middle of the grid is mocking me... daring me not to find words that use it
Cluetime: ca7/48, type of marine animal, he7/40 a place the chooks call home, is7/36 a line on a weather map, op8/50 sounds like a person who would throw his line out first, po7/48 attracted to the same sex, po7/36, not real good, qu7/44 to subdue something
They do that, don't they, aknitter.
what is a chook?
i swear it stuck its tongue out at me

attracted to the same sex... hmmm... is this related to the po4/8?
unfortunate word hurshy - not nice...
it may not be nice but if it is related to po4/8 then i only know it from bridget jones - we don't use that term here
i am at a loss i do not know this word you are discussing
oh my gosh vi - when i was joking about the nuts, i was so close to an actual word!!
yeah i think us americans are going to need more help on that po7
Ooo, ooo, I'm looking even now!
Ha!
sorry about the po7/48, just thought that was what it meant, bit hard not to be offensive I guess :)

hic
Hic
Thank you - so easy really. 5 to go.oc6/24 and oc5/12 are not jumping at me either.
can anyone better clue the op 7 word?
descriptive. they have to be. it wouldn't matter, if you try to suppress a derogatory word, people will just make up another one.
i mean po 7
Hiya Hursh
po 7/36
Its a word that ignorant people use they probably cant spell it though
hello lady
Hows life treating you
Well, I agree with you, of course, hurshy, but many a Babbler seems to think the bad ones shouldn't be allowed. So they would obviously prefer their dictionaries prescriptive. Doesn't mean it would solve the problem, but there you are.
take the po4/5 lack of money and make is more descriptive
fine...
except for this co 6/27...
is Lickety working today?
co + Attila the *** + 2nd vowel

*waves hi to Alison by proxy* I was thinking about her the other day, hetty! :-) hope her autumn is going well.
I might have to break down and register soon
my 15 month old is asleep on my lap - it's the only way can play- and the three year old is playing with her trains et in the living room - nicely, i might add.

ty on the 6
kiki, last one is an ai4/4
do you have measure of land, kiki?
For a good salad niceoise--apart from the tuna (and anchovies for those who liike them)--you need french beans, cooked and chilled, potataoes, hard-boiled eggs, tomatoes and nicoise olives of course, and lashings of homemade mayonnaise. And I always add beets because I love them so.
ty all - got em all - have to run good luck

rosaling russel and don ameche in the feminine touch on tcm
Karys, I have made an English version of the salad niceoise (which is a French recipe) substituting a good shire cheese (cheshire, leicestershire, yorkshire) for the fish. the important thing is that thye potatoes shpuld be new and cut, after cooking, in chunks--the components are then set out on a platter, not mixed, and guests help thenselves to as much or as little as they want of each along with a scoop of freshly made mayonnaisel
dorens, beautiful pic

the first and third sh 4/5 please?
po7 = disappearing word + headgear backwards
april, i vote for babble, its still early enough to do both?
Thank you, April, and a happy Columbus Day to all of you with the Stars and Stripes
first sh I have is like Martin Sh***
it is lemon, but you know, I kind of slow down after five
hey lemon, I am in Belfair
sh plus two vowels...sounds like a name
thanks mymuseisme
like it muse? cuz I have the one that is that word
*still trying to figure out the Po7*
no thanks April, not down to the s's yet
but I'll holler if I have trouble, thx
thanks Jee, now the other?
judi - do you have po4/8? Add the backwards headgear
how about sh plus two vowels that are the same vowel?
Judi... po7 "somewhat like po4/5" as in not late but late * * * or not happy but happy * * *
po7 po4/8 + chapeau backwards
I have that one Jee
april - i think i went camping once in belfair when i was little
Got it,thanks.
help w/the Qs please...can't see them :(
I think you are not talking about the other sh4/5s that I have....sorry
lemon, I was in Seattle on Saturday. We go up there a few times a month. It isn't that far away!
oh Jee, got it, thanks!
qu 7?
take the legal term and make it more so april
hmm?
make the 5/12 more so
qu5/18 to suppress a rebellion, qu7/44 person who does qu5/18, qu5/16 semi or sort of

hi ak
very welcome. what's the knitting project for this week?
he5/14 please
metal i am working on a scribble lace shawl in white
april still plugging along i see, me too
ri4/4 a break or a gap, ri5/16 more than one
ak, I have a special needs 'child' too, see my icon.
32 left and I gotta go -- back after the flip -- bye all
sounds lovely aknitter, you must post a picture of it when done
thanks metal
april thhat looks like what is hanging over the back of my couch!!
metal you mean IF i am ever done lol
April, how old is your kitty?
he + o*** upon a time
oops meant ro 4/4 and 5/10
he is over three I think, found him as he is as a very young guy.
bye jil
how did he become "special needs", or was he that way when you found him?
bye jil
thanks mymuse, just didn't want to twist that way
do you see in the icon? three legs
april-you mean the things plants use below the ground?
ohhhh he was found that way
eva?
I see, but was wondering if it was accident, or cancer/amputation as with my cat
sorry-not the cat....you had asked about ro4/4 and 5/10
the vets say it was surgical removal, but when I found him around three or four months, there was no sign of surgery. He was homeless and what not
omg, thanks Eva, how did I not see those???
very odd indeed, but it's fortunate he found a good home with you
yw
it's usually the simple ones that are invisible
Whoa! I just noticed that April. I just thought it was another goofy cat position. My cats lay like that all the time. Just figured his other limb was against the cushion.
we call him 'our special needs child' like what your icon said
my little white kitty is snoring on the back of the couch behind my head
snoring, this guy is so chubby in the face he can't help it!
time to resort to lickety's list
ha meet you there eva!!
metal, yours lost a limb to cancer? how is she/he handling that?
Must be an interesting balancing act for the 3-legged kitty.
the IS word pls?
he's adapted amazingly well. gets around with very few problems, jumps up onto and down from the bed or his favorite chair easily
digging in his litter box is a bit trickier, but he manages that too
he runs fast but walks slow, like a slow bunny hop, missing one front leg.
don't usually go to the list until I'm under 30, but I've been stuck at 57 for a while now.
and he still acts like he has his leg, kneading and digging in the cat box
is 7 = is + circle + the dial in your car that shows the engine rpm's
you're made of sterner stuff than I Eva... I resort to Lickety... much sooner
perfect, knit! ty :)
yw
yes, Rock tries to swat at things also. you can see his nub reaching and moving. he even tried to attack the vet a couple of weeks ago with that little nublet (he had to go back for removal of a "suspicious" lesion on his side. with his history, we figured better safe than sorry... we're awaiting the biopsy results now)
metal, I have a lot of concerns about stress on the shoulder and ankle/elbow. He sprained it once, he insists on getting up really high but lands on only one leg. The vet says they put most of their weight there, double that for one leg.
not sterner-just find it phsyically very trying to go through the list, so only do it when there's not too much left
car illiterate...my car doesn't tell me much about rpms....what should tell me that aknitter?
never mind, got it anyway
gee, jee ... was just about to come up with another clue for you
- - - - ometer
one left been fighting with it for awhile...may I please get a clue for he 7-40?
we're concerned also, but try to minimize his distances up or down as much as possible, or to give soft landing zones

German cruise ship brought 360 tourists to town on Sunday. Docked in Port Huron, we took them to Henry Ford Museum with short jog past Comerica Park. The church right next to the stadium has a huge banner: WE pray for Tigers and Lions. The Germans laugjed heartily

ta 4/5 , like Bert la**, change first letter
last ta 4/5 sounds like southea4/4 asian country
so 5/16- not hard + vowel

Who knew?
So, 'cuz -- since you're here, I will assume you have power to all corners of your house once again?
I still don't get that po7 that starts with derogatory British term ends in the British goodbye
it's used in Monty Python a lot in the short form... word for "puffy" + british for "Thanks Alot" + consonant
my last one-oc5/12.
scrabbler po 7 starts with the po 4 to disappear and ends with a short form of good bye
it is a derogatory term for a gay person p***F and your are gone and then T** t** for now

The power company arrived at almost midnight, discovered the problem (and there were flying sparks that made me jump back 6 ft!), killed the power to make a temporary repair, restored power, and told me to have an electrician repair the "channel box". I had power back by 1:15 AM but by then was freezing and exhausted. The electrician will be here tomorrow. Ah, the joys of being a homeowner.
so 4/6 please
