Hi zysx
should I jump in?
Hiya Harp :)
yes Harp *slides over*
hi harp
okie dokey
Boker Or Melon - how are you feeling? More up to par? Heard LaBoheme at the IPO last night with a young Italian conductor -- standing in the aisles cheering at the end
Clues are up! Enjoy. I had to refresh the grid too today
Thanks
you are so terrific lickety, thank you for all you do!
Thanks lickety
Nicola Luisotti?
thank you sweeeeeeeeet lickety!!!
hi, all
Hello, Lickety, thank you.
better, thanks, ARB - I really need to lie down several times a day. I feel the strain on my abs - having middle-aged midsection fat doesn't help. But I do feel better when I rest enough.
((((Lickety)))) thanks
Thankyou Thankyou Lickety
((Faerie))
hi ANgelsong!
((((Angel)))) Hi
I see IPO will be in NYC Jan31, Feb1 - if only...
nice tailor type 6 and 7 on the grid ;)
XXXOOO to lickety
Daniele Gatti?
The US tickets must be expensive.
i know i'm going to regret asking, what's IPO>
Who was the conductor?
esp in NYC - when they came to Cleveland, other than priey Patron tix, top price was $60, not too bad.
Israel Philharmonic Orchestra
IPO = Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra??
sorry, ARB & i have a few shorthands.
wa 7 & 8
WHO WAS THE CONDUCTOR?
Sorry Erda, was not paying attention to your question. It was Giampoaolo Bisanti who stepped in at the last minute (2 days) for Daniel Oren who decided not to come (and gave no reason)
cool IPO.
Thank you, ARB
I wonder who their harpist is\
as well as a bright 7 and 8
Dang, DR, way ahead of me.
I was trying to print an article from Maariv (in Hebrew0 and the printer just would not cooperate - I'm finding Apple is less Hebrew friendly than PC, sorry tp say.
Giampaola Bisanti . Mimi was Susanna Branchini. A concert performance, but she died on the stage sitting in a chair and the entire audience was crying, including the conductor.
co7,8
I pint short articles to practise my reading - try to stick to the "tarbu" (culture) section - I need a break from politics.
Oh, hey, there's a native Israeli in the grid.
cu7,8
I've always been amazed at how many high notes a dying soprano can hit....
tx mymuse - got'em ;)
There might be some more software you need for the printer connection.
Who was Rodolfo?
Ankh -- terrific. It's also the Hebrew word for a cactus fruit.
Yes! :)
Haaretz on Firefox works - sometimes i just go to the library if there's something I really want to read - I print it on their 'puters w/o difficulty.
tx Ankh & ARB!
time for me to call it a day so I'm off to bed. Happy Babbling
Rodolfo was Valter Borin, a young Italian. Not the greatest voice, though not bad, but terrific stage presence. We sit in the 6th row, so we see the sweat, the spit, the grimaces, and the smiles.
Was it staed or in concert?
Txs for the comfort, Faerie, sleep tight.
I think Oren is in New York now, but I could be wrong
Concert
staged, i meant
darn - hot flash.
gaes
oops
Oren will NOT be invited back to Israel (he's Israel, by the way) for a loooooooong time. He was done this twice now to the IPO and twice to the Opera company -- cancel , either at the last minute or halfway through preparatins.
ra7 - i typed this awful seemingly made-up compound word - & it took!
top row grey. going to work north to south tonight
so I hear - what's his story?
a quick hello
hi!
DRB you are so orderly.
Hi, Infernal. Bye, all... I'm just not up for it yet. Happy Babblling!
Top row gret?! I can only get 1 s!
well last night I was getting the 7s and 8s and missing the 4s they were built from
Don't know. Boy genius. Sang soprano for Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms premiere. On wife number 3. Considered a mad genius.
we have no net at either of the 2 places i visit due to my partner spoiling me and not paying the net bill
im hiding at a net cafe and have to go in about 5min
::::*POOF!*::::
nite Ankh, hi lady
waves back
i bet there's wife #4 to be named later - hehe! he sounds "old school" the womanizing genius, please don't tell me he has a bushy head of hair, too.
Yes, with a small kippa
(Melon, he's a doc, not an orderly!) *poof for real now*
well it seems that im about to be booted as everything is closing. Say hi to people like stid if you see her
ooooh, our friend from Israel is in the grid tonight, plural :)
Bye Herin

now why isnt gasbutt a word?
last half is
melon, LOL!
That's it - halfway. Good nite.
I think that would be a perfectg name for my cat, gasbutt
thanks Sprite, got the ou8
good nite gadget
ou 7 and 8 are compound words
just got the ou7/8 - whew!
nite gadget
Su8 is a compound kind of word. Under + P5/14. Ou8 has a prefix and makes noise.
so is su 8
oh, there 'tis - thought i had typed that earlier - but as one can see from my chats - i must not look up very often - naturally no typos this time.
hello all
hi oboe
hi oboe
do you play the oboe, oboe123?
hi oboe, are you an oboist?
no but i play bass clarinet
ever heard of thomas oboe lee?
which would be pretty long for a nick :)
He wrote a piece for harp, oboe and bass clarinet
The Mad Frog
I'm not making this up
I just found a plural me in the grid -- playing around as a desperate measure!
now we all have it!
:)
you didn't see me post that!????
start it with a different consonant for another word
It is a wellknown fact of life that we can be very blind to ourselves
no, I think I interpreted your posting as about the native fruit and its plural.
ooops my bad, that doesn't work
another vowel?
kinky su5/6 combo ;)
I said our friend from Israel is here in plural :)
is that word also the cactus fruit?
Dense, I was!
there's also a word for a person born in Israel too
good morning all
i'm pooped - and now i'm {poofed]
i'm pooped - and now i'm {poofed]

this grid is going to be hard isn't it? I've only got 50 words but I can feel it slowing down.
very slow for me! (maybe shouldn't have had the glass of wine first!)
Hi. are you in Adelaide Kanga? (the drink sounds like a good idea!)
No, in Sydney. Good idea, but it makes my brain v. slow. Particularly after a hard day (not) at the easel.
Are you in Adelaide lynxxx? (I've got family there.)
No, Melbourne - you know, that place covered in a thick layer of smoke. I noticed the other day that you seemed to be a half hour different to me so I was guessing Adelaide.
Haven't caught the news recently... smoke?!
not news any longer - still the bushfires continuing to burn - and so when there is no wind it becomes really quite bad - central & eastern areas totally covered today
Excuse ignorance! Just been filled in by scornful partner, who tells me the smoke I noticed yesterday in Sydney was from you. Must be truly awful down there.
It is - but it must be horrible to be where the fires actually are!
has anypne got ta 6/27 yet?
sorry zysx - I've just started. how are you?
actually I just found it . a place where you place a bet and yours & mine
that was ta 7/40
sorry. I want the other one
yes I know - just drop the plural letter - 2 words/one clue
there is a second one
which is driving me nuts! anyone?

Hiya Button

hi, lyn

It's an australian thing, I think, anyway. When I have a headache, though, I take a ***let.
I was wondering if a non Aussie would get that clue !
got it, thanks
and it must be an aussie thing, i have never heard of it
We're big on gambling, down here.

Good evening. Small, but still challenging.

"glacially slow"--------I must use that sometime
alas, I use it all too often.
Hi Scrabbler
Hi lynxxx--I was off looking at the list
good morning everyone
Hi Eva
Good Evening Eva
hello.
Good morning Eva
how cute - both age groups of the boys organisation
I think I see what you mean

A sailor went to ***....
rhymes with tea
Another word for ocean-
thanks Scrabbler
got it, thanks
been stuck at 63 left for a while now. Yesterday's puzzle, though i didn't finish it, was a lot more fun. This one is too much moneky typing for me....of course if I had better arcane vocabulary....
tell me about it!
well....
maybe it I take a break and come back with fresh eyes...
I may eat my words (77 left - no list yet) but I am enjoying this one much more than yesterday
I am slowing down too---94 left, and I don't have as much time to play this AM--we got lots of snow overnite so I need to head out early for the drive
think I'd rather eat breakfast than words lynxxx
That always helps Eva---new words will jump out at you
Just 12 left, and my bedtime was 15 minutes ago.
Yes, Eva!
This grid is a piece of cake
go Kanga!
Come one, kanga, let's get you some fireworks so you can hit the sack.
that's not fair Scrabbler!!!! The snow I mean. We are just dying economically without it. And I look forward to winter, to the down time, the quiet, even the cold. This sucks.
Hi BabbleR!
Are you done, BR?
Hello... and I finished a while ago
fireworks!
The ski places are dying here too---I live in ski country and there is a ski resort on the hill across from mine---they are going crazy without snow and without cold weather to make snow
any clues before I go?
Hi everybody. Eva, I agree. This is the pits! My poor son works in the ski industry. Talk about being depressed.
Yippeeee sparklygem!
congrats, sparkly!
Congrats Sparkly !

Congrats, sparklygem!
and from me
This snowfall should jumpstart things, but the industry has lost 4-6 wks of ski season
ty!
sparklygem, clue us the word you found the most difficult or strange.
none of the ski areas in Vermont have been open. And our local place, which relies on sugaring in the fall and cross country in the winter, is empty. This is also really bad for the maple trees.
BR--were you up overnite doing the grid?
clue for the second ta 6/27 which is also the 3rd ta 6
took me about 3 hours
Some of my plants---ferns, crocuses--started erupting this past week from the mild weather.

ra 6/30 and 7/44 --- purses for hip rodents

spell it phonetically gramma
Got it. ty
gramm, the last letter is the snake
is the "snake" always the s?
think so BabbleR, or plural letter (as opposed to Latin plural = e)
Though latin plural can sometimes be i. Just to keep things interesting. Or even a.
speaking of which, there is the 2 forms of plural for the musical instrument tu4
lol Haz - but in that case the afore-mentioned 'latin' plural
so, somehow saying "snake" is not saying "s" even though everyone starts looking for one
so, somehow saying "snake" is not saying "s" even though everyone starts looking for one
Phantom word of the day "roast"
Okay, off to the shops - back later, hopefully.
anyway, goodnite everyone. 63 left - but day off tomorrow so can take my time.
I have never seen anyone say snake to me a latin plural
bye, lynxxx.. have a good sleep
Sorry babbleR - I have confused you. In the case I mentioned I would have clued tu4.7 musical instrument - the plural for the 5.16 and also latin plural for another. makes more sense I hope. Bye
sc 6/30 please

never take a retail job during Christmas
is that the third ultimate blunder?
in babble heaven, are we rid of S words?
sure -- and all words beginning with vowels and starting or ending with preffixes and suffixes, thus eliminating the possibility of finding 239482093480243 different versions of a word, but missing that last one...
no, in Babble heaven we have no RE words
lol

'Bye ursh.
i'm not even fully awake yet and mini-me's getting dinner... the world is a funny place.
query- I am trying to figure out the logic of what words count- e.g. why doesn't saturn count as a word?
FIREWORKS!:)
well, proper nouns don't count
yay jac
bye ursh
Congrats, Jacula!
wtg jac!
Enci - you could drive yourself mad looking for logic in the Enable dictionary.
*nods* road to insanity, yes indeed
but there are some proper nouns that do count- e.g. to 4/4...OK I will leave logic to the side
I must go. Other Half will be home in about 20 mins and I need to 'look busy'.;-)
Happy Babbling, all!
...except when they do, enci! I usually try words like that, you never know
sometimes proper nouns have another, common noun definition... but yeah, the short answer is... road to insanity.
ours is not to question why, ours is but to find words or die
lol hurshy
lol

just so all the males out there know that i was not insulting them :)
Although that may be worse! lol
No- I tend to not be bothered until someone actually sets the house on fire.

I don't know ...
GTG, BYE all
afternoon everybody!
Bye CS .. Hi Charm ..
Hello, Charm.
Hey, Vic, Tor!
How's the grid today?
You'll laugh - You'll cry - You'll kill some time ...
I'm finding it less straightforward than some.
yes, but I do that every grid. what's different today?
it's a little on the tough side
No dirty words?
that's good, Tor. I always cringe when I find some expletives which should be deleted.
No wait, there's at least one . .
And if Hurshy says it's tough, .... sigh
i said a LITTLE on the tough side
oh, ok <perks up>
i mean, i always go for 80% on my own, without opening the chat, and if i find that a bit of a struggle, that's a little tough. if i just can't do that, then it's really tough.
we're on a similar wavelength, Hursh - I aim for about 75% on my own. so it's not exactly easy today. that's all right.
sa4 please?
if i reach 90% without even breaking a sweat, that's a lovely easy grid! :)
wise (also a spice), or having cut a piece of wood.
sa4 a spice
Shnikeys, I'm not getting a single at word ..Are they odd?
at5 of roses?
There's the thing from roses, and pl...
And then like a short form of a lawyer, and pl...
thanks, Vic
My pleasure.
1000 thanks vic! Both words I know . . .
Wee Robbie and a few of his words are here . .
It wouldn't be a grid wi'oot him.
Evening all, how is the grid today?
Hi, ren.
Hello, ren.

LOL!
and rotor...
I just moved my computer into the corner to save me the trouble.
LOLOLOL
Going to have to expand the corner soon
i can see it now . . . the corner gains major cachet!
I was just kidding . .
Actually, we are adding on in spring, I can make it octagon shape, several corners, room for every one.

it's definitely worth it bunny, I was so glad when I quit and got over the hard part
I gave up nearly 3 yrs ago and feel the benefit now
When do the BAD cravings go away? It's been nine days.
it was a couple of weeks for me, then it started to get easier
About two weeks I found
about a month for me bunny
ahhh are we talking ciggies
I can handle that, five more days.
well not bad but when i got through a day without thinking of it finally
it took me a few months to be able to be near other smokers without struggling though
You can certainly handle it, bunny .. You've passed the hardest part ..Just keep going.. you will love yourself for it . .
wtg bunny - keep up the hard work. it's not easy but it is sooo worth it. can't really remember about the cravings. i gave up when i was pregnant and that kind of took over my thought p;rocesses! just let us know when you have a weak moment. i'm sure us babblers can give you lots of support!
I'm not looking forward to my Keno group this month, they all smoke. And the diner I work Saturdays is more like a bar. But we'll see.
Thanks again, I better get now. Til tomorrow!
Hi Bunny, hi all. I've been lurking and read how you've quit smoking Bunny and just wanted to say congratulations. That's one of the hardest things you'll ever do, and one of the most beneficial.
cya bunny
It is exactly 15 years since I smoked a cigarette, but I never actually said I was giving up, I just said to myself one Monday morning "Dammit, I'm not buying any more". Different atitude altogether. (they were about £1.79 a packet then, I don't know how anyone can afford them now)

=8-)
I remember when I quit on New Year's Day about 22 years ago. A meter reader came to read our water meter and apparently our last payment had gotten credited to someone else's account, so this guy from our village came to the door and was going to shut my water off. I was like a lunatic, cabin fever and nicotine withdrawal during a chicago below zero cold spell with a baby and toddler home. I nearly decked the fellow, I was that angry. He actually ran out of my house, lol, afraid for his life! I've never done that since, but it sure felt good to give a total stranger a piece of my mind!
i got some useful info today wren and James has applied for the loan he was talking about, we will find out by friday if I can afford to leave or not

Hi everyone! Just dropped in and saw your discussion of "quit'smoking"efforts. I did that 14 years ago, used the patches but without phsychological help. I couldn't stand those patches during the night, so I put a new one on every morning. After six weeks I realized at 4 p.m. tht I had forgotten to put on a new patch, and never did again. And had quit smoking! participated in a CT Lung scan five years ago and have no damage. I feel for all of you who are still trying to quit
Wurdt - top T = th & 2 vowels
clue for the ra 5 please

I have not finished and I cannot bothered anymore to find these hard words..... so I'm going...... Nite
Poetry is like art--not good/bad or right/wrong--it means something to the artist/poet.
Good night ren8
Hi Mousey
do you write a lot? you could maybe put your work online or publish a book
I have been published once
my mind has been dry given the current stress level
hmm, i have 3 left and then I can get back to doing my work I get paid for :) the at 6 and 7 and the co 6 after the dwellings and before the legal room
I know that feeling, I have only posted on my blog once since things blew up in my face, I just don't know what to write

that doesn't mean it's bad wurdy, if you can capture an emotion and put it into words that's a talent regardless of what emotion you capture

Hi all, good afternoon.

hi jessa
Hi MP
Hi scrabbler, atlante, mousey
got an email be right back
he came round tonight and we cooked together (used to be his job, he was showing me how to make my favourite) and we had a lovely evening, I've found my friend in him again
that is so great. is there hope for reunification? or is it really over
apart from when I poured boiling water over my hand, that hurt
First bo5,16?
Ouch, Kate!
no it's definitely over but I feel good about it knowing I can salvage our friendship
so, it is an understatement that you are not at home in the kitchen?
with kids involved you really do need to maintain some sort of civil relationship
I *can* cook, I just don't want to lol
bo5.16 missing some bs but probably one of a ships crew in the olden days - ends in what is in the sky
im back
I'm going to call my lawyer who handled my first divorce and see if she will do this one, we want to do it together so maybe it can be kind of a nice thing instead of a legal fight like my last one
I can't believe I'm going to be 24 with 3 kids and 2 divorces
maybe I can go for some kind of world record lmao
???????????????????? kth your making no sence
3rd time lucky Kate
any clues for ut please?
Oh, sorry, lynxxx--I had that bo5==now I am looking for the other bo5 and the following 6
I dont know how it is in England, but here in the states you dont even need a lawyer if things are civil...you can buy a program and do it and then file it yourself
u + throw out the *r**h (garbage)
we thought about that wurdy but I liked my lawyer a lot and I'd like to make sure it's done properly, don't trust myself to do it right
trash
well, good luck to you on that

No, no--haven't you ever noticed---we metabolize asparagus and excrete a metabolite in our urine and the smell is quite distinct! Come on--who else has noticed?
I never noticed it
Kate (kth)---have some asparagus and you will confirm!
i had root beer floats YUM!!!
I have never noticed it either
I've heard of it scrabbler but never eaten it so don't know
but, Scrab, not everyone has smelly pee after asparagus.
Hi, all!
hi tea
Mousey - I like lime spiders - like floats
root beer floats last night
hi tea
my dinner is almost the same as yours mom except we're having "baby buttered peas" and bk.potato with sour cream
Yes, TNC is correct, it does not happen to everyone.
Scrabbler, I just nominated you to conduct a study on all people who have smelly urine after eating asparagus. Any one want to second the motion.
Time out - everyone's making me hungry
hi tea
http://www.drdaveanddee.com/asparagus. html

Wish I had a root beer float
I've just been sad enough to look up scrabbler's link, only 50% of people have the smell issue with asparagus :-)
I can't believe I missed those Ws - thanks for the clues
Thanks Scrabbler
It also happens with a chemotherapeutic agent called, L-asparaginase, given to kids with acute leukemia. OK, science class is over--let's Babble.

anyone have the middle column Os yet, it's the only tile with no words

Letting off some steam, that Crackers?
he's been interested int he potty since Tea figured it out and is acting like he wants to sit on the potty but when i go to put him on it, he throws a fit
oy!
oh I hated it when mine did that tea
like throwing him self on the floor, screaming at the top of his lungs, full on temper tantrum
The joys of parenthood!!
I think I am going to ignore him!
good plan
Yes, TNC, they all read the same book and get proper instructions on tantrums--it is a conspiracy against parents
It gets worse---adolescents have BIG BAD tantrums!
thanks for clue got all three
But when they grow up they come and house sit for your three cats :-)
You'll be surprised how quickly they they calm down if they get no attention .. A tantrum is hard work, and they'll lose interest if they don't get a reaction ..
his word for potty and his word for nursing are very similar and he is making the sign for nursing but that is NOT what he wants - oh my goodness!
Scrabbler, thank you, thank you, for the clues on the ou's....I've been monkeytyping forever, and just came over and saw your clue.

thnx Scrabbler, I found it for when we had architecture (sp) for a theme, and just kept it. Trees are my favorite things
What is wrong, katie?
Betty co + abrev for rental unit
At the moment I am house sitting, selling my house, doing up my fiancee's house, planning a wedding (mine) and a hen night (my best friends), I think I just need to sleep for a while :-)
There are certain trees in the world, places I have lived or visited, that I feel are my friends. As a kid I used to climb our huge maple tree and sit there for hours reading.
Thanks all for your help.
katie that is far too much to be doing at once!
Baby steps, katie---and delegate whenever possible!
that's a lot Katie - get some rest!
Afternoon everyone. It's a great day to stay inside and Babble.
hi, mkl
Yes, mkl, you are right!
Can someone clue the ta6 and 7?
hey, mkl
I know as soon as I book the venue and church for my wedding I can forget about it until november. My house will complete in a month so hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel. At least they are all happy things :-)
I haven't gotten to the T's yet, mkl
It's warmed up to 28 below. When I woke up this morning it was 52 below. Decided I was staying in for the day.
And they all build character, katie!
YIKES, mkl!!!!!
mkl, I may never complain about the rain again!!

hi all -- back for the last 12
I did discuss it but haven't explained yet
What about su8?
su 8: under + time of the moon
because it's in both our names it will stay that way, but if I leave the country I will be outside of the british jurisdiction so they will chase him not me for payments, that applies to all debts that he has been a part of, so I could add him to my credit card accounts and leave without paying them as a last resort

hi everyone
Hi helen
all I am stuck on ba 4/7 any clues
ba4/7 is a currency. Reverse the last two letters of a place where you wash.
Hi, all. I'm in Asheville, NC, and we had 5 1/2 inches of snow today, in the city... the poor, confused shrubs that bloomed prematurely are shivering in their branches. It'll be 70 in two days... go figure! I have two words and my monkey is officially gone to the great banana farm in the sky. Help? The last CO 6/21; and the SU 8/65.
ty ty ty
only r and ts left - might finsh before bed
The last co6/21 is the plural (English) of the co5/12 that begins the whole sequence of words
su 8/65 = under + *****r (the thing on star trek you can set on 'stun' & neutralize someone)
hk....watch the movie.....it's my favorite hitchcock and altho i never read the book, it's my understanding that selznick made hitch cock stick pretty closely to the novel
su8/65 - three letters meaning under, then five letters to indicate a stage in life, a temporary type of thing.
and i agree it's one of the best opening lines
Are you talking about Rebecca?
hiya chj - in researching the icon, SPOILER ALERT: i read there were 2 major changes - one, given the times, they did not let on that the husband killed the first wife (gasp!) in the movie & the housekeeper dies in the fire - there ya go for spoilers
haz - yes, my icon
Ah - the book is great. I also love My Cousin Rachel. I can never work out if she is innocent or guilty.
haz - i haven't read that one - any good?
It's excellent - so well written that you can't figure out if Rachel killed or not.
Thank you helenkeller and Haz1558, it took a bit of pecking but I found it. Any clues for the Co 6/21?
i am jotting it down!
SPOILER: doesnt mrs danvers die in the book? and did maxim kill rebecca in the book?
Yes, he killed Rebecca and admitted as such.
yes - he killed her
Got it, Haz1558. Fireworks and thank you all for such great clues in the chat! :-)
chj - you must read the book, conveys a whole different feeling
so does the new wife stay with maxim after learning this?
BUT he escapes punishment because it was discovered that she was terminally ill and the supposition is made that she committed suicide. His REAL punishment was in having to live abroad.
wd scarlet !
Yes, it's the new wife who narrates the story.
Congratulations Scarlet!
yes, & hence the sense of relief when she finds out the truth
Thanks, hk and Haz1558, you both helped more than you know!
& you never know her name either
she is just always the second mrs. de winter
There was a great BBC version several years ago with Joanna David as the new wife.
it's still a great movie wrthy of seeing
roar
OOOPS
SOrry --- I wasn't even cahtting
chatting
But PLEASE read the book!
Since I'm here already --- LOVE Rebecca. The book is a must read!!!
yes, chj - but now i think it will just confuse me as to what really happened - maybe i should read the book again before seeing the movie - yeah , like i have that kind of time, lol (just think how much babbling i would have to sacrifice!)
Okay - now I'm leaving. I actually was on my way out when I saw that word as I walked by
hiya musicmom!
Thanks for the back-up musicmom - haven't seen you for ages.
going to sudoku - can't see a thing here, don't want to resort to the list yet - bbl
I would also recommend Mrs. DeWinter by Susan Hill which is a sequel. Not everyone liked it but I did. I loved the original. Also read Frenchman's creek. now all i can think of is the first line.
I've read the sequel as well, but wasn't sure about it. I wouldn't read it again and again as I would with Du Maurier.
good evening all. any clues for the ra6/30 please?
ra6/30 - a term of insult, especially to rodents
Thanks so much Haz! Fireworks for me!
Well done!
Hi everyone - clue please for as 5/14

Hello Angb!
Thnx brandyjack - don't think I need a fish for that one LOL
Hi Haz
sounds like i made it way too easy. was supposed to be as obtuse as possible.....
Haha
brandyjack - I was going to clue along the same lines - it's such a strange word I couldn't think of anything else.
clue for the ou7 and 8?
ou7 - in a competition the lion would allegedly ou7 less noisy animals (compound word)
ty just found it
simba could ou***** every lion in africa
Good evening everyone. I'm finding far less words on these grids over the last week. Anyone else having that problem; or has my mental acuity diminished since the holidays?
as5 capital of syria is damas***
Some days are better than others, Nef.
true, Haz; but a whole week without finding at least half of the grid is worrysome to me!
Hi again i am stuck on what I think is first to 4/4 and then to 5/12
I wouldn't worry about it, you'll pick up again.
is there a to 6?
thanks for the kind encouragement, Haz! :D
The first to4/4 ends in a vowel. The to5/12 uses the first three letters of the small hill then the shortened form of America/you and me.
yes it a plural of to 5/10
Yes, cybernan, a plural
to6 limbless and headless bodies
got that one think its 5/10
thanks, chj -- just couldn't see it!

Hi feather, it's not too bad

my list has two tr words
not bad feather... I did it in about two hours, mostly with the list.
Hi feather
Oops miscount - have 2 TRs ! Thanks dawg
i made a beef stew and got a little carried away with the garlic.
hmmmmm.....two hours would put me at 10:20ish. not bad.
One can never have too much garlic :) or chocolate
stidmatt -- check out the ph words! :-)
it was good, but i know i'll be paying for it all night.
ok, gonna race a 2 hour time limit, see how i do
go feather go!

I had dinner out with a friend the other night and there was toasted peasant bread with baked garlic. I must say I made a pig out of myself with that and did not have room for much else. :) Didn't bother me at all at night, thank goodness
okay, this is weird. I pulled up a local news channel on my computer and now things are really bizarre... going to reboot and see if I can fix it.

Hi MP. whoo hoo Enci
Congrats Enci & Entro !
WTG ENCI!!!~~~!!!~~~!!!
social no-no also shows up a few words down the list with an alternate spelling....
YAY entroposcope!
checking out words that Stidmatt wants to be...
ph4.6...is that what you want to be Matt?
fiah-woiks, amen!
No, ph 5/10.
whoo hoo Gwen!
WTG BDG!!!~~~!!!~~~!!!
WooHoo Gwen!
and a scientist that studies ph 5/10.
tankyu, tankyu. I don't have a ph5/10 tho!
Then you aren't done? Are there 850 words above your tile stats?
gotcha Matt. I was beginning to think you wanted to be bacteria! lol
Oh, I thought you wanted to be a bacteria stidmatt :-)
the silly website hung up just as i was typing my last word. that was a few hours ago. finally took it. 8-)
lbd, we must be twins :-)
ok, HOW can there be a ph 5/10? it don't add up!
it's ph 5.18
stidd, i gots all the woids but no ph5-10. 183 woirds, not 850
ahhhh, ok, i can work with that
in fact, i have that! lol
No, but we are growing some bacterium in Science. I got bacterium off a zit, the hose in the kitchen, a desk, and somewhere else.
okay, i have a ph 5/18. i think it was also an episode of Voyagor <g>
Sorry BDG, I meant 183, sorry!
had to look up the meaning though
yummm. what an....interesting....project!
Matt, you're going to find some really gross stuff if you keep that up. try the doorknobs to the restrooms at school! GROSS!
ever seen a grid with 800+ woids? I've seen as big as 300+ but I'm still kinda new
which one is growing faster? or is it too early?
AAAGGH!!! It is 5/18!! GAGH I am so blind!
No, no 800 grid words.
lol, s'ok matt
there was a kid in my high school who got a prize for a science experiement with bacteria and mouthwash
I think i'd shut down and cry if there was a grid that huge! i think there was one 400+ but the 350's are bad enough
We just started growing the bacterium today.
matt, I remember studying bacterioph5/18 when doing bacteriology at McGill decades ago. Is that your interest?
I wonder what type of bacterium we will get, I hope not STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS.
ok, focusing back on the grid
put bacteria on four petrie dishes (using his own saliva), then tried four diff brand-name mouthwashes so see if they actually killed the little things
Yes Jillibus. That is what I am going to do when I grow up because they can be used medicinally.
the post popular brand-name mouthwash came in *last*
I had to write a paper on vibrio cholera, gaaa!
Sweet BDG! That would be an interesting experiment.
the pre-health students all have to do a bacterium lab which is really an eyeopener for germs everywhere!
How many SUs are ther pls
once i sold a 19th-century book about bacteria, but they didn't have the word bacteria in it. it was called something like "The Little Animals in the Air"
10 Su
That is silly, are you a bookseller?
Good - only have half of them!
stid, umm, yup. but before i sold it, i showed it to a friend was was majoring in bacteria in college
b-ph5/18 was hailed as a weapon against bacteria way back in 1946 and earlier-- seemed to fizzle out because of all the antibiotics which are now overused
she was working on listeria, IIRC
Cool, what did he
ra6/30 is one of the funniest words ever. Anyone know what it means?
/she think of it?
inga, i think it means just what it sounds like. an insult.
stid, i think she was amused, but not geeked
ollag, are you here?
dictionary dot com doesn't have a definition for it Inge2
It says in my textbook, I am very precocious about Science, that you need CTXo bacteriophage to get rid of Vibrio cholerae.
ra6.30 just means some-one who is funny crazy - like a jokester. not really an insult almost a compliment
Try Websters!
Okay, back to the grid.
well, matt, I'm waaaaay out of date and out of touch!
i had the first ra4/4 and looked at the grid, trying to find something that could alphabetically precede, and found the woid. I love it when that happens!
Yes, back to the grid -- I have 78 to go!
cholera? now that sounds like a major project LOL
okay, I hope to use ra6/30 some time this week in casual conversation.
Ah,, my book was written in 2005 by Dr.'s Elizabeth Kutter and Alexander Sulakvelidze.
inge, your icon is TOO CUTE! 8-)
Well, getting rid of Bacterium isn't too hard with Bacteriophages, they are way better than Antibiotics.
chiefly Australian : a stupid, eccentric, or disagreeable person (websters def for ra6.30
stid, on this i will take your word for it
Inge2, are those all in your home? (the puppies, i mean.)
bacterium is the singular of bacteria (Latin neuter noun) ;)
WA7 & 8 please.
measurement for lightbulbs Minski
wa7 relates to the amount of energy you are measuring
I'm Aust and I use ra6.30 as more of an affectionate term
Yup, when I had Methicillan-Resistant Staphycoloccus Aureus (MRSA) I started to get really interested because K can get rid of it really easily.
jill -- are you a microbiologist?
stid, i hope that is not in the grid! LOL
Thanks. I keep missing that G in words.
*just reading through the log and catching up.*
lbdawger, the top two are mine. All of them were born to my sister's dogs She kept one too. :)
Or Sb-1 or o11!
and phenomenon is the singular of phenomena (Greek). I giggled when Larry King said "phenomenas" one day -- double plural!
they are just too cute!
That is nothing compared to E. Coli O157:H7, it has a lot of very common phages!
well, i'm late for cooking my own dinner . . . see y'all tomorrow and don't catch any goims!
missing a tu4/5 have to rotate
they're loads of fun!

NM found it

In 10 minutes I'm going to watch the premiere of a CBC show called "The Little Mosque on the Prairie"
I don't have any tats myself but my husband has two...retired Navy. His weren't a fashion statement.
i'm sorry but i cant think of anything that i thought as cool 30 years ago that i think is cool today
My personal rule regarding tatt's, which is shared my a majority of my friends, is that I will not put the name of my significant other on my body --- just in case the unthinkable should happen
I read about that jili--that show would never happen in the states. I'll be interested to hear what you think.
HA! no kidding woulf! what a bad idea that would be
However the names of children or antecedents is good as they are a tribute to them, as are inscribing the names of deceased loved ones
Need to head to bed. Good night all and take care.
night nonnie
natasha, I hear there are several networks in the states very interested in that show!
Yea my grandpa has the name of his girlfriend from for ever ago........but my grandams's name is not that name!
G'night Nonnie
*grandma's
granddam is good too
woulf, I've thought about a tattoo tribute to my dad, but I'm glad I haven't... pople die, but for me it's the aprts of my identity that supercede the life of one person that are most meaningful to me
hello by the the way everyone! LOL
I guess that has come up since I read about it jillli
hi reeses
hi reese's, and btw, hi everybody!
fireworks!
I agree, smooth -- all my tatt's reflect my spirtuality in one form or another
did you read the thing i just said about my grandpa smooth?
yeah I did reeses. I'm glad I never made that same mistake
ok, I'm off to bed. see you all tomorrow.
yep, but guess what?..... my grandma didn't even care because he wasn't with her anymore!
see ya nat
good for her!
The other important rule regarding tattoo's is to make sure you know what you are getting if it is written in another language
but I guess people are more intereseted in tattoos than mosques in prairies
Reese's -- that shows that your grandma is a very smart and loving woman
lol again... a good it of wisdom woulf
sorry, jilli -- what is the premise of the show?
yes it does greywoulf!
G'nite Nat
bye nat sleep well!
Woulf -- it's apremiere of Little Mosque on the Prairie
torn
oops sorry!
I got that much -- but is it a documentary or is it like the show, The Monastery, that was on recently
well I'm off to bed, just stopped in for a few min. nite everyone!
no harm done, Reese's
night reeses
Sleep well, Reese's
I'm stuck. Only 4 left... two of which are the ta 6/27 and ta 5/16 in the center of the ta list, if that makes sense. lol
now I have just those two left...
all I have is su 8/65
ta5/16 -- ta + hot cross ***
then plural for the 6/27
n/m I got em. YAY!
su8 = su + cons + ph5/14
little Mosque on the Prairie premiere -- so far Very good, Very funny, Very clever...
Congrats heathen!!
yay. thank you grey. never would have gotten that one!
yay. thank you grey. never would have gotten that one!
yay. thank you grey. never would have gotten that one!
yay. thank you grey. never would have gotten that one!
yay. thank you grey. never would have gotten that one!
yay. thank you grey. never would have gotten that one!
my pleasure, mouse :-)
all right I'm outta here.. g'night all!
g'night pappa!
night smoooth
TY though. My first fireworks! Too bad I have stomach flu to thank for the time.
heathen -- I can commiserate -- no flu, but the entire family here is sick
hey all
i'm new
hi zabeth -- welcome -- the best orientation material can be found by clicking the link to AngelSong's Babble Page in the Friends of Babble box if you need any help... otherwise, feel free to call out with any questions you may have
i've actually been lurking for a few days
thank you
that works too! :-D
anyone have a clue for the ar4/6?
plural the first three letters of the other ar's
thanks!
yw!
and the first wa4/8?
to advise of danger
ahhhhh of course!
thank you
the simple ones always hide like that
And remember Babble'
oops
remember Babble's Cardinal Rule.... Always try to pluralise EVERYTHING!!!
it must be awful when there's no s
usually those are the shorter grids, though if the comparative suffix (-er) is present, not always
any help for ra6, 30 and ra7,44 (probably the plural)
another common mistake is to forget that you can go left instead of right when working off a letter
I can't find ra6/30 or ra7/44 -- any help availale please?
ra6 -- a tote for carrying rodents and yes, the 7 is a plural
I am having trouble finding the su6/27
thanks, woulf
:( me too
su6/27 under the ocean
TY...I thought I did all sorts of ratty things...;)
Thanks Une -- Firewords!!!!!
woohoo, GW!!
YAY woulf!!!
aha, ty une
and congrats GW
adding the ! that slipped away, of course!
And now I wait the lonely vigil until I hear what is going on with my son.... Kirsten and Gramma took him to the ER because he has been having trouble keeping food down today... he has been having minor incidents during the day, but he seemed to be just fine (happy, bouncy, alert, no fever), but when he gave back his supper while we were putting him to bed, we decided that better safe than sorry was the route to go
oh, good luck, Woulf!
Thanks, jilli --- we aren't too concerned, just being cautious more than anything -- after all, he will be one at the end of the month
so anybody need any other clues?
Hi GW {{{{hugs}}}}.!!!!
and at this time of night the emergency room is the only option...good luck GW
{{{**chic**}}}
little ones have such scary things happen and they usually are not scary at all
at least, we have a good childrens' hospital located only about 20 mins away, zabeth, so we know he will get good care
that's a big comfort, woulf
too true, jilli -- though Seb is definitely more prone to the dramatic medical events than his sister ever was
just like a man, woulf!!! - lol!
After all, he contracted RSV before he was even a month old and spent almost a week in hospital then, whereas his sis has had no major illnesses at all
LOL
RSV?
I am wondering if there is something about second children that makes them more medically vulnerable?
Being an only child I have no basis for comparison, but Kirsten's younger sister apparently spent a lot of time in the ER throughout her childhood
I'm an only child and I had an olny child so have nothing to go on
oh woulf - I was just getting ready to give up and head to bed when I read your post. My best to you, your famiy and your son.
but I had lots of early childhood ailments and my son had none
I don't think that my second has more problems, but certainly different probs. He
He is the tummy kid and she is the skin kid
respiratory syncytial virus -- it can be fatal in infants if undiagnosed -- Seb had been home for only a week or so, when we noticed that he was wheezing in his sleep -- so being the paranoid pappa we took him to the ER -- we caught it in the early stages and so had no complications
WOW lucky, GW
Thanks, circe
It is all so relative....isn't it? Again, my best - keep us posted okay? Wow, Rsv is really scary and to have it so young...what a tough kid you have there!! I am sure all will be fine! (hugs)
zabeth -- partly luck, and partly good observation skills -- Kirsten is a LPN so she knew what to watch for, and I was up with him and happened to notice the slight change in breathing pattern
just googled RSV -- good for little Seb to conquer that
{{*back at ya, circe*}}
and good for his smart parents to catch it fast
now you are gonna make me blush, jilli :-D
lucky that your son is lucky to have such good parents
because that made grammatical sense...
zabeth, of course it did -- we are in Babbleonia!
please let us know how things turn out with this latest scare!
speaking of babble, 39 minutes to go and 43 words!
BTW -- my icon is of my daughter in her Halloween costume
hi everyone!
you know I will, jilli -- I would never leave my cyber family on tenterhooks about this
ohh, my icon is too little to see
ahhh not possible. anyone have the bo4,6 and 5,16? i assume they're plurals...
49 for me -- just not catching on today -- giving up and going to get tomorrow's icon (Fishing!)
go zabeth - ask for clues and you can make it -- many is the time I have started out with more words than minutes remaining
Hi kier! I can make out your bear just fine!
right then! forward the light brigade!
GreyWoulf, hope your kids are ok. I will say that my oldest (8 year old boy) has had WAY more medical excitement than his younger sister (4).
bo4/6 - there are several plural snakes *** constrictors ship plural ghost cry water jug and bo + double cons
the bo5/16 = bo + the star we see every morning (except when it rains)
Thanks, kier -- all positive energies are always welcome
hi babblers!
the other bo5/16 is pluralled for the bo6/27 Think in terms of Robert Ludlums The Bo***e Supremacy
Hi Fran
thanks gw...ghost cries was a hit, but i'm not getting water jug or double cons. sorry.
hi again fran
refresh for my "fishing" icon.
hi jilli!
cute icon jilli!
I got it, fran -- very beautiful! Did mine get through to you?
I guess it did!
i had to refresh to see it in the chat.
hi wolfie!
both start with the same three letters, zabeth -- then repeat the third letter for the double cons, and end with the first vowel for the water jug
okay. I did 130 without using any clues or Lickety's today. Just scrolled through the chat and got a couple of the b's that I missed. Clue the ou7?
autumn, made a sound like a lion better than everyone else.
ou7 -- out + lion's sound
ha! thank you, got all the bos!
you know, I thought I tried that but I guess my typing is just not good tonight. TY.
Going to do dishes -- back soon (hoping for a smallish grid tomorrow -- may be snowed in again according to the weather forecast!)
later jilli
Resorting to Lickety's now....I'm just not going to make it.
clue for the co5/12, please?
autumn - sometimes the site drops words, and other times we type too fast for them to register... I usually just attribute it to the Babble gods demanding their daily sacrifice
g'night jilli
zabeth, are you familiar with the italian dessert, panna co***?
nevermind!
co5/12 -- terra co*** warriors
or -- drop the last two letters of the co7
sorry.
then apply the latin plural for the co6
wolfie, did i hear you say the kids are sick?
thanks very much! latin plurals...this is new business.
actually, the entire household is ill, Fran -- but Seb seems to be the worst off. He has been having trouble keeping food down, so gramma came by to take him and his mom to the ER to conform that there is nothing serious going on
ugh, that's the worst...when the little ones are throwing up, i feel so helpless when that happens
and i've been thrown up on numerous times.
hope it's nothing serious GW!
I am not too concerned, Fran -- he threw up a couple of times during the day, but didn't empty himself each time. Just when we went to lay him down for bedtime... but given the fact that it has happened multiple times, I felt that it was time to play the caution card, rather than the blind faith card
clue for ga4,6 pretty please?
we're like that too GW, especially when my son (first child) was younger, we probably went to the doctor more times than was necessary.
hi everyone! happy new year woulfie- hope things are soon back to normal at your house..
aha!
zabeth, it's a scottish or irish word i think, ga + l**s is more.
have it. spoke too soon.
hi TO!
Hi Temple!! {{*Hug*}}
thank you fran, anyway
no prob zabeth
speaking of throwing up, we've discovered my daughter (19 months old) gets motion sickness.
hi fran - fell asleep struggling to finish now!
just yell for clues TO
Oh that must have been fun, Fran....not!
spare a clue for second ro4,4?
ar 4
ar4 -- change the first letter of the or4
ac5/14
ro4/4, ro + **ke it or leave it
ro4-- change the first letter of the bo4 -- water jug
there is no ac...
and change the vowel ending for the 3rd ro4
as5/14 -- as + to swear minus one s
ty GW!
don't forget to pluralise, zabeth
pa4,5 and 5,12?
right!
pa + game, **t and match
pa4 -- pa + **t the table
pa5/12, add another vOwel to the pa4/5
pa5 -- add the round vowel to the 4
lovely!
sa6/18
autumn, usually seen in adj form, sa****ial splendor
first bo5/16 clue, plese? ty
bo + our star
or s + ***s and crafts + either/**
bo5/16 -- bo + the star the earth revolves around
second sa 5/14 and 6/24?
Fran - I scrolled through the chat....feed your daughter lightly sweetened candied ginger before a trip. It should help
thanks autumn! i'll look for it next time we go grocery shopping.
check your local asian or health food store
zabeth, sa + ending of the co5 snake
sa6/24 is the plural
beautiful, thanks fran
that is actually a good tip for any time her tummy is slightly upset, Fran -- we have given it to Kristianna when she says her tummy feels yucky and no probs yet
sc5/14?
zabeth, it's either, sc*** the pots and pans or eagle sc***
sc5/14 to scrub or an indian brave
sounds like i should try it, thanks GW!
not chocolate covered, though
i have both of those...a different one?
she'd love that though!
choc covered ginger?
zabeth, last one is like the diving word but change the b to a t
choc covered ginger?
sc5/14...add a vowel to the 4/6
then you need the sc4/6 + the first vowel, zabeth
Choc-ginger is the best!
I have never had it autumn -- I will def check it out
I ususally get it from Purdy's chocolates
sc5/18 and 6 after it please?
the words you find on here...thanks autum!
thanks for the tip on the ginger autumn and wolfie, i have to run now, hubby has to help his friend with something and the kids want to go along for the drive.
yes, I gave up on the grid. It's almost an hour past bedtime so I really should go. Will check in tomorrow....about 3 hours earlier though.
