Oh! I was invited to a puzzlers' competition, today. have any of you been to one?

I just heard a story about puzzler's competitons on NPR
where is it?
en7 and 8
I heard an npr story, too, about mit
it's not that - it's in north central florida, and it's a crossword comp only
Have you seen the documentary on crosswords?
heh, no, but the folks who recruited me referenced it often
I'll see it before the match
If you have Netflix you should get it.
Is this your 1st crossword comp?
I want to , anyway. sounds like fun
oh yes - it's my first
I was doing a sudoku, and a guy 50(?) yrs older came up and asked if I did xwords, then I was roped in
when is it?
april 7.
are you in the area?
(north florida)
no... I'm very west of you, Reno
I see Ted William's favorite drink is on the grid
heh, a little bit west. too bad.(I just moved here from Davis, CA, btw)
ciao, babblers. back to writing.

hi sprite! survived the sleepover i see. :-)
Hello Sprite!
absolutely :) Glad it is over, but my daughter had a terrific time :)
can't wait for my daughter's first sleepover, many years in the future though, she'll be 2 in May
quite a handful then probably, Fran :)
stubborn as a mule and already talking back even though she has yet to say a real word.
yay! Girrrrrrlpowerrrrrrrr
i guess that's one way to look at it. :-)
have to admit I am always in two minds about that. I insist that my rules are followed, but deep in my heart I cannot help admiring their courage and power when they talk back to me and challenge me :)
Can you imagine, being 2 yo, totally dependent on that huge grownup there and making clear that you have a mind of your own? Heroic :)
she's definitely a free spirit
They say kids are the way they are because of the way they are brought up - but I reckon that most of their personalities come inbuilt already
i think that's what it is too lynxxx
as parents you can teach them rules and boundaries, and some values. And some tools to handle life a little easier. That's about it, I think. Kids are very much their own person.
Agree. but why is it us girls invariably turn into our mothers as we age!
genes :)
my phantom tonight: caliente...not accepted by enable but one of my favorite spanish words.
has to be genes
hi all, help with si728 1st one please
Agreed. I'm trying to avoid becoming my Mum, but I seem to have a similar personality to hers so it'll be challenging. o_O
this is not my day, I fear. This morning my family was fighting when I got downstairs, my computer chair collapsed and my firefox still isn't working properly.
ugh, not a good start sprite
you won't be your mum, Jen, never. The point is, you fear some aspects so much that you see them in yourself bigger than they are ;)
poor Sprite - it will be better tomorrow
sorry oggy, don't have it yet
I hope so, lynxxx :)
but i just found it oggy, more like a "girly-man"
That makes sense, Sprite. ^^
fran is that the one with all the ss
yes, is there another one?
yes
b4 that one
okay, looking again then, thanks for pointing it out though
is it before or after the "quiet" si6/18?
si7 - without Biblical fault
not me, Haz, not me :)
fran after
ooh, thanks haz!
You're welcome!
TY Haz
there are just too many Ss! took me a second to figure out how that works!
yay, old familiar babblet ar6/18 is back. Shakespearian "Begone, thee witch!"
thanks sprite!
i think i found the right one
yw :) I love that one.
yup, it's the right one, i had never looked that one up
I try to remember the defs, but have to relook up many :) (Yay, another not valid re)
sprite, can you tell me more about the ar6/18?
hi all
hi ata!
Good morning Atalante - haven't seen you in a day or two.
it is a very archaic word, hillary, and it means "begone". It is found in Shakespeare. Ar + mixed up tiny particle + consonant
hey Ata *big hug*
been away ... back now, for a bit anyway!
Hi Atal
glad to see you, even if it's just for a bit
I thought you maybe couldn't face my glee over the rugby....
did ireland win? they played england? lol spent the entire weekend in hospital with my friend, didn't even see a newspaper!
argh, that doesn't sound great, Ata. Is he well?
Well done for being a good friend. You missed an Ireland victory by a small margin - 43 - 13.
oh wow Haz! how coooool! (I hardly ever support England LOL)
or she
giving up on the shakespeare. would anyone like to clue me a 9?
she's ok, gone home now, which is why I'm back home too! how long she'll manage to stay there, I have no idea
she is lucky to have a friend like you, Ata
hillary - ar plus the ending of a j word used to describe where two parts of the body fit together, or a plumbing term, or a cigarette of canabbis.
isnt she just :D LOL no she's not, anyone would do the same if they were a true friend
actually got it one second before yr clue tks haz... slow on the uptake today.
probably, but true friends are rare :)
No problem, hillary.
gm all just a quick visit
Good morning Iain.
hi lain
hi Iain!
true :) but she is my best friend and more like twin sister than friend. we look alike, think alike ... and I've known her since I was 9!
that's pretty special, Ata!
that's really cool ata
useless bit of information - there are 22 no's
Hello Iain
lol lynxxx - sounds forbidding
hello babblers! how's the grid today?
cool, i have 19 of them
I went to Lickety early as I am just not seeing words in this grid and I am working tomorrow
hi blood! pretty good, although i've slowed down with 109 to go
Hi Blood!
we've had shakespeare... appears we also have chaucer... no5.
it is nice, but not altogether easy, blood
hmmm...i'm debating as to whether or not i want to play today...i have a lot of reading to do...
i'm not seeing many words either lynxxx
*looks at Blood mindlessly entering his first word and being taken up by addiction* :)
lol
well i just got back from the gym. maybe i should clean up before making any drastic decisions....bbl...maybe...
two different generations of japanese immigrants alert
bye Blood :)
wow, such control
yes, singl and plural both
sooo strong Blood ! see you later
thanks sprite, missed the plurals, i would have been smacking my forehead later. :-)
hehehe, with this many Ss I try a plural for each and every word ;)
has anyone got the 11?
you'd think i'd have learned by now!!
yes
al11/88
hillary - build on the al5 - the stranger in a foreign land.
must go work calls
bye Iain!
many thanks
wow, great words!
thanks Fran
bye lain
Bye iain
np sprite
getting late here, 104 left for tomorrow
night everyone!
night Fran
bye Fran - sleep well
night Fran
Night Fran
THe other 10 is a plural noun relating to a luxurious, though fabric. la10/77 being the plural of la8/45
That was supposed to be luxurious though holey fabric.
don't think we have that in the UK!!!!!11
don't think we have that in the UK!!!!!11
nor here, but I think I can bet on the 3rd letter :)
ah, got it, ends in plural lake monster
ditto australia. i have got the 'more like the holey fabric' but can't find my way to making an 8 out of it. any more clues?
it must be fairly obvious if Haz got a sewing-ish word!
LOL Ata!
Not paying any attention to Atlante ..... gloriously oblivious.....
Rising above it all......
and very sneakily stealing away a vowel from her...
So hurt I can't even spell any more.....
oy! yes! stop stealing vowels!
serves you right for winning so well at the weekend :P
la8 - describes the extent of la** featuring in clothes.
doh! pass the fish... or should that be fish-net stockings...
And I couldn't even get to gloat because Atalante had been so good over the weekend that I couldn't rub things in......
hillary, no fish is passed for not finding 11 letter words at once - that's called pretty human ;)
Right - time I was out of here to get things done. I'll be back later. Bye all!
byeeee!
bye Haz!
hmmmm trying to decide whether to be good at work or be "bad" and run to the beach with Hobbit because its suddenly gorgeous weather!
keywords here: "suddenly gorgeous", "beach" and "Hobbit"
my thoughts exactly ....
its rained for the last 2 days ...
hey, you don't have to convince ME! I would have been on the beach 5 minutes ago :)
you're right! ok I'm off!
hf :) Enjoy it for me as well.
will do! back later :)
yay, another dear babblet and its comparative. So6/18 and 7/28, having an ample bosom :)
and the stranger in a foreign land words AL10 and 11 have a 9 as well (person doing it)
good morning everyone
morning Eva
Hello and good morning
never ran across the bosom babblet before sprite-and hints?
hi Alleyn
Hello Eva & Alleyn
Done the 2 x 10 and 1 x 11 but no 9s
Eva: starts with boy child, then spanish for yes, then another vowel.
person doing the 10 is the 9, Alleyn.
the AL10 that is
is that what that means?! There's a restaurant in Boston called that.
Thanks
it means strong, good natured, robust - and also, if said of a woman's body: "having a large bosom and pleasing curves"
and Alleyn: same ending goes for the No9.
My body clearly isn't one that begins so!
No can find
no9?
never mind-found it!
yes, no9 same ending as AL9
does the no9 relate to sound?
Keep wanting to find Arnold Schwarzennager in here
not it doesn't, Alleyn
no alleyn-has to do witn elections
Good morning said the 'Hodag"
hey Ho!
Alleyn - just glancing in - the one who proposes someone for election.
no9 that is.
morning Hodag
Hi ya sprite,Lynxxx
Brain missing again
Is this grid as bad as it looks?
no, it is fun, really. But some ugly words.
Yep
alleyn-before you can be elected to have to be no______. This is the person who does that for you
Does that mean you've found it, Alleyn?
sorry to have posted a word
ohhhhhhhhh,nooooooooooo
& I stood in the local elections. Thanks
yw
tone
ACK!!
so back to ample bosom!
eva ty
some tips on this grid: don't forget trying a plural to everything, remember that greek words can have strange plurals, watch the 'ic' ending, try ending words in 2 vowels, try double consonant alt. spellings if possible and check your babblet storage.
Ample bosom - two male children , id est. The so7 is the comparative.
yw
What is babblet storage? Is it something new since I've been away
TY-sprite
it is that secret room in your mind where you store strange and totally useless, yet often recurring babble words
Oh..............
today we have at least these babblets: ar6/18 archaic 'begone!', Le4 hawaiian flower string, 1st and 2nd generation japanese immigrants singl. and pl., greek temples na4, so6 and 7 the bosom words.
can you help me with the japanese migrants?
also for the Re-phobic babblers among us: there are only 2 again-words, take a boat into the sunset again and do biblically bad things again. Last one can be read otherwise too :)
hillary: is5/10 - 6/18 first generation jap. immigrant(s) ni5/10 - 6/18 2ned generation jap. immigrant(s)
taking a break now to see if my family is done fighting so we can have a pleasant lunch, after they ruined breakfast. Bye for now :)
Sprite,you lost me Darlin???? :)
actually i think the do biblically bad things is not actually a do again word but a word describing the gooey sap from trees that hardens into stuff you use on your violin bow.
but i'm still lost on the japanese migrants ... not words i know. can anyone help?
hillary....is + se4/4 is the pl
is5.10 is + **ise the Day!
hi Karys
hi hodag and all..... just poppong in and out between ironing !
Karys! Hi
phantom: ointment
and anoint Eva
I see,you are a busy one...:)
and minotaur-if that's how you spell it
not doing the ironing by choice hodag !
tried a simple spelling of that Eva, but it didn't like it !
this is definitely not an equal-pasta grid--no rotini!
I see! We all know the game is better then ironing.
but Jamaican goat dish is there
do I know Jamaican goat dish ?
ro4
the first 4 letters of mom's pasta
didn't know that's what it was....silly me !
tks Eva--not familiar with goat food--for or from!
the enable dictionary has that word for the french for roast-but it is also a staple jamaican dish-sort of a turnover, empanada type thing, if I remember correctly. I think it can have different stuffing, but goat is common.
do any words start with ox?
eva, roti is also a type of indian bread
nor have I ever eaten goat of any kind.
right book
back in a bit !
getting a nice string of cat icons here
goat is quite tasty
oops-book said a word(-:
see ya Kary
once again, I hate e words!
Eva - 2 ox words - a 4 & 5
thanks lynxxx
got 'em
by the way, they've spotted lynx tracks in Vermont
it wasn't me !!!!!!
I don't think your paws are big enough, and they probably aren't tufted
but I have got the cutest ears!
this is a tough grid, but very interesting so far.
hello babblers
could anyone clue me the no9 plz?
hi blood
finished your reading Blood?
morning!
I'm off for the day..........:)
no9/60 = lowest common deno*******.
bye hodag
an no9 is the person who puts forth a candidate
haha..no lynxxx...but i did take a shower, drop of my laundry, go to the health center, and get some AUI calendars to send to friends.
thats the best clue yet Charm!
ty charm and lynxxx
hey, lynxxx!
back in 15 ... its still quite hot here and need to take in some cool(er) night air
bye lynxxx.
cya lynxxx
I just stepped in to see how the grid looked. Must go face the day. bbl for the real fun!
they're predicting another major storm here, for Friday....but not as big as the last one.
As long as it's snow and not ice it's bearable.
hi eva!
hi 6a! Fun grid today
How's the appendage?
eva-it is asourceof many elevens.
sorry to hear that. Are you divorcing your body?
will someone please tell Merp that it's only 6:49 and NOT time for breakfast?!
i would if it weren't se 7.
you know the rules eve...if you're up, there are no rules.
who runs this house anyway!
morning everyone!!!!!!!
hmmm, don't know if I have that se7 6a. Have one, but it wouldn't make sense in that context. Morning movie
hello mm
just found another se7
aren't sea anemones se7?
there are 4 Se7's
oy. did you have to tell me that sprite?(-:
lol, no, but it is so much fun :)
eva, clue me on that sea anemone one plz
hey movie my man!
botanical or zoological term for organisms that aren't freely moving, for at least a stage of their lives.
hey sprite me ol' dutch!!!
okay-I have to feed Merp...can't stand the whinging any more
ok need a clue for the la10 its driving me mad
sorry mum...i can't help you
it is plural to the la8/45 (this one ends in the scot lake monster) it means the extent in which a piece of clothing has a certain expensive yet holey fabric in it.
ty sprite! thats all the 9's, 10's and 11's yay!
yay jakes-mum!
Good morning folks. I overslept (I hit the snooze alarm too many times) so I have just 10 min.
need a clue for the 11, STAT!!!!!
Babble emergency for MM! LOL
movie, use the al5/10 add the country and pluralise
emergency? more like I don't want to look give me yours
which al5/10, jakesmum?
The first one (extraterrestrial)
what country?
another word for country, n5/18
or the people of a country I should say
it means estrangement
another clue for that al11 could be "an 80s sci-fi movie starring James Caan"......
got it! thanks.
TY-I got al5, al9, al10, al11, na5, and na 6 from your clue, jakes-mum.
good morning BR.
Hello, Blood
now, need clues for the 9s, STAT!!!!!!
what's the al9 scrab?
Your killing me, MM, with your STAT requests. LOL
al9 = one that pushes another away, or an ostracizer
*you're
nice...thanks
hehehe, movie mind your manners ;) AL9 is the one doing the AL10 and 11

there must be some weird N biggies! I am in the desperate monkeying stage now.
bye scrabbler
bye Scrabbler
movie: Le8/40 - 9/54
it has a wonderful def :D
goedendag, sprite. build on the no 4 following the yule word. a sib and plural
and no, you don't want to know that def :)
hey BabbleRabble, in Dutch even! Thanks, will work on that.
got that la8/9 combo, ty sprite
is it la or le?
sorry, it's le8/9.......
the combo that leads to the 9 is LE
ok.
yay, got the apres noel combo, thanks BabbleRabble :)
ooooohhhhhh
i keep wanting to enter "to make one into a russian dictator"
Did I do that? Darn am I being stupid :( Sorry to put the christmas word in so stupidly
first 4 are correct, Blood :)
oooohhhh...i was combining sprites clue with BR's clue...not realizing there were for different words...
CSI watchers: Gil Gr***** gives us Li6/21. Add vowel for the Li7/32
sprite...can i get a clue for the le8 please?
Good Morning All, I have the al10, may I have a clue for the other 10 please
let me think... Le + consonant + word for something not male nor female + tiny particle
wow, another huge grid...
hi peri, La10/77: plural of the La8/45, the extent in which a certain piece of clothing contains a very expensive yet holey fabric. Ends in the Scot lake monster.
thanks sprite :)
still need 49 of the biggies.......39 7s and 10 8's....
sprite?? I don't see asexual in here.
thanks sprite!
I am almost done and all I need is biggies - it is really eating me :)
now i get to see the definition...
very very very common word for something not male nor female, Katy :) Only 2 letters!
thanks! I was looking for a big word!
it is one of those defs that require looking up 3 other words, Blood :)
I give up, a2z to the rescueeeeeee!
thanks! why do I always have to make things harder than they really are!?! LOL
wow..that is a nice definition. so how does one work that word into their vobulary?
don't we all, Katy, don't we all :D
now that I have all the 9's, it is time to go to work. cya all later after work!
hey you Blood, watch your mouth, my boy, take care with those Le9!
hahaha...that works.
:) Not that anyone would understand, of course...
when you are so careless with those Le9, you are scaring my inia so badly it flees to the etna! Ywis!
brb
hahaha
*quickly hides for the men with the white coats carrying straightjackets*
so does the le9 explain the cockney accent?
do you have the spanish currency, sprite? se 7 & 8 often spelled with a c
yes, those I have, thanks BabbleRabble. I am still staring at some N words that have to be 1. big 2. totally insane
I don't think anything on earth can explain the cockney accent, Blood
3 no 8
I got the one you clued me and the thing that can get you in trouble...
3 NO 8??? lol, i need 6 N's, so those are half of 'em
no with the charged particle
hi hurshy :) *hug* some of those Ns are driving me quite bananas.
and no 9, hurshy
*hug*
my my!
yay! Thanks BabbleRabble, that is one of the missing ones - and it is both big AND insane :)
this is a hard one
And back again for babble, take 2.
i don't get it no with charged particle seems to be only 5 letters
and doesn't go
French no, charged particle, almost frozen water ending
actually it comes down to not being of the nature of a charged particle
maybe uncharged
oh, i get it, ty all
tiny particle anyway
HI Haz, and thanks
Hello periwinkle!
Ok, found Me7/32 x 2, Me + first 2 letters of same particle + short for female version of brother. The other one is the plural, change last vowel.
Now I am missing 2 more Ns, a & and a 4. *kicks self, how hard can it be to find a 4, hmmmm?*
Now I am missing 2 more Ns, a & and a 4. *kicks self, how hard can it be to find a 4, hmmmm?*
*a 7 and a 4
no 7/32 : noxious, irritating
I think I have that as a 28... comperative. *thinks*
that comparative is just "louder"
do you have the infamous babblet of the greek temple for the na4?
louder is very obnoxious to me :D
sprite would never miss the greek temple...
yes, do have the temple, thanks. Probably blind to something very obvious, sigh...
there is a plural no 7
ahhhhh got the 4. Of the death, nil N4 bene.
yes, have the plural too. Think I am missing hurshy's one.
more stentorian
starts like louder, ends with not all or nothing but...
builds on the n05/10, sprite
I have no No7/32 yet, so that must be it...
ahhhhhhh! Same ending as trouble****, bother****! Stupidhead word if you ask me... but no one ever asks me... fireworks, thanks so much for all the help!
no, that is a real word... but congrats!
Congrats, sprite
nice, sprite :)
may i have clues for the other two no8 and the no9?
It looks loud, but smells bad (no7)
with more than a little help from my babble friends, thanks :)
Congratulations sprite!
I like that def, Haz :) Will remember the little %$^##%@
no6/18 leads to its plural no8/40 - no, a vowel, shortened female sibling
hurshy, one is what killed the cat.
no9/60 - one who proposes someone for election
no8/40 - the quality of unwanted curiosity
i need an NO word for curiosity?
okey dokey, will ponder
yes hurshy, NO to curiosity ;)
ohhhhhh
haz I've been trying variations of that no9 you're clueing w/out success for about 20 min !
it starts with what you are poking where it does not belong
well that's good, now i only have one more N
Inge, do you know the movies with sigourney weaver and arnold schwarzenegger about a human robot and the end of the world as we know it?
aha, that did it sprite, tx!
:)
now working on the curiosity one...can guess what it begins with
is it a compound word, the curiosity one?
use that ending of the movie with AL9 and Se7 as well
no, it is the quality of it, Inge
got 'em, tx!
not "nosesome", lol
nope, but that is very close to the one that ate away the last shreds of my patience.
yes, had that one early on...
go head, rub it in... :)
i need serious E help
clue for other 10? I have the al one
i got the bottom one and those about the letter, plural, from the upper, but that's it
the Es are almost all stupid
en6/18 featured in the grid before - Greek politcal movement - make it plural for en8
hehe, got the ca8 "those ca****** go rolling along"
en6/18 En + underground part of plant
yay Inge!
En7/28 - 8/40 E + country, or people of a country, and plural
ty sprite. pondering yours haz
got haz's!
It's an anagram of one of the no6 words.
ty again sprite!
EL5/10 sounds like a girl's name but spelled differently
don't get your en country clue sprite
EL7/28 and 8/40 - EL + form of to be + tiny particle, and plural
Inge, I know that word but can't figure out how to spell it
*groan* i know those words!
Eva, it is E + country, or people. E + N6/18
not a specific country, a general word for it.
thanks sprite!
c + continent of ***a, + male offspring, and plural for the 7 and 8
casia
sorry!
ar6/21 and ar7/32 - soothing homeopathic remedy
lol, that reminds me of a little boy that seriously told me what he had discovered: "Boys have a penis and girls have a cavia!"
great stuff for bruises Haz
li7 wedded b**** + the old folks at h***
inge that is not working for me:(
So they say, Eva.
or for the Li: CSI leader Gil Gr*****
Add vowel for the 7
ok, here's another way, peri: ca + form of "to be" + male offspring
i used to use it a lot and it works beautifully
thinking about haz's ar clue....
my clue was for the li7, sprite....now I have the 6 too, tx
thanks so much inge, I did not know there was an i in the middle
yay for google
A kind of combination of Mr Shwarzenegger and the state he governs.
ar+first three letters of ingredient in ciggies + vowel
y'all are a treasure trove of great clues
how's about that 4th row i?
have im5 and 6, what is other?
:0 A backhoe just showed up in the yard to dig a trench. BBL
oop, nvm, got it
another im I think. 5
It's the seven dwarves one....
*whistles*
the fourth row O is bonkering me
im5/12 and im6/21 - any of the seven dwarves, when asked what they do, could reply 'i5/12'
and change last vowel of the 5 for another 5.
hursh, there is Os7/32 - 8/45 combo starting with bones and ending as the frozen points hanging from the window sill.
ooh, ty sprite
and of course there are the two O words that use the tile that marks the spot, 4/10 and 5/22
ty ty!!
only miss one more O
there are 3 more botlike words, 4/4, 6/18 and 5/10
*bonelike words (bot is dutch for bone, I am losing it fast)
i need the 6... monkeying
ends in not out
cooooooool, done with O!
yay!
and here is a mart
he needs his waps
you lost me, hursh
my cat marty
i hold him and wap his side and he purrs
ahhhhh :) Ok, I am off to shower, finally. Thanks again and have fun with the rest :)

If you have the an5/10 - add the 'type of' ending
ty haz
9 is my magic number at the moment. need 9 A, 9 C, 9 M, 9 S
plus a buncha other stuff...
You're welcome, MM
we ALMOST have serotonin
LE9, NO9, could someone tell me what the other 9 starts with please?

i was looking for the al9
same here :-)
une, is the al9 related to the al1?
a0
i meant 10
i'm confused--i thought that was the one you said you had . . . no?
al9/54 is the one who does it--ends in the nickname of a babbler
i am not sure how to answer w/o giving the word within the word away, lol
oh, duh!!!
so you DO have al5/10, 10/70, 11/88, and 9/54?
but now I got the al 9, thanks!
cool!
one more 8 and all the big-biggies will be done...
although there will still be 9 7's...
now i do, yay!

Good morning evanadine!
no8/45 plz
not like a charged particle, I think mm
no8/45 - to French no, add charged particle and the'type of' ending
ty haz
how are we all this morning?
pretty good, eva -- how are you?
You're welcome. I'm fine, evanadine.
not bad, not bad. got another busy day ahead of me, but no complaints...
I just realized today's icon was Tupperware! I actually worked in a Tupperware plant once for 3 days -- on an injection molding machine.
Then I realized the job was just not a "good fit" as they say -- LOL! I was young and foolish then. Now I'm old and foolish.
But I'm sure the job still wouldn't be a good fit.
Good morning/afternoon/evening/night/you should be sleeping Babble Buds!
Okay, no excuse for me to be sitting here any longer. The kitchen is calling, so I'd better go.
who should be sleeping?
That's true, Haz. At the time I was desparate for employment and thought I could do anything, including standing for 8 hours with a huge machine and horrible noise, at a time when my arthritis was starting to get worse. Silly, but lesson learned.
depending on where u live hursh... it could be 2am
i fell asleep jst minutes before the flip at 1am... how's this grid?
aussies?
hah, i love the Mi6/21 word, i use it all the time, saying i need some of my own! i use it so much so, that my friends bought me a shirt that says "I am not a Mi6 of evil, I'm Upper Management."
So, really ch1212 you're older and wiser....
this grid has a lot of nice words
:)
ooh thanks eva, needed those
Definitely older! :D

the traffic was not too bad mostly, but i mostly wasn't driving at rush hour either...
*whew* i just noticed that there is an 11-letter word today!
hurshy you are so brave, and I mean that. Boston is notorious for the traffic, and we have met several locals who were raised there and refuse to drive in the city. My hats off to you!
*blush*
good for you Hurshy... i wish you much luck in your new life... a great adventure. I've been where u r, only w/2 kids to support. but I loved the feeling of embarking on a new adventure.

hurshy... what is a nibble?
a nibble is when someone expresses interest after getting your resume

i'm sure it will take lots more before i actually find a job though
orator's action is there, eva
speech, speech!
oh... sry.. thought u were talking about a clue. you'll find a job lickety split, i'm sure... it's Boston, for pete's sake
hurshy, yes, but interest was shown quickly. you must have a great resume
really sam? is it an OR?
don't get the orator's action here????
aye, eva
and pl, too
well, the type of job i'm applying for is the type of job where they don't hire far in advance, so if there is going to be interest, i would expect it to come quickly. i hope my resume is good... is hard for me to know what other candidates for the same jobs are like
Hurrah, I've found all the biggies.....(all 66 of them!!!!!)

pabtrek, didn't get your clue but thanks anyway
as8 please ( I don't have the as6)

hi cybernan
Hi Nan
Good morning cybernan/afternoon this side of the pond.
breaking for lunch, bbl
Bye pabtrek.
Guten Tag, Haz. Glad you came. For the life of me I cannot figure out mo 6/24, just above the forest ground cover
mo6/24 - think of the type of floors the Romans laid
mo 6/24 -- A picture made of tiny pieces of stone
good afternoon, haz and all others across the pond
And Guten Tag, inge!
of course, Haz. Thanks alot
You're welcome.
clue for no 9, please?
no9 - the one who proposes a second person for election.
no 9 -- the person who puts up someone else's name for election
ty haz
ci7/32?
now to figure out those le's!
ci 7/32 -- mispelled word for no-machos
non-machos
ci7/32 - big girls blouses
The tactful Irish description, that is.
thanks arb and haz. never heard that term before.
perhaps because I'm not Irish. Or tactful, for that matter.
Neither has the dictionary!
Good morning everyone. Haz, I' m a big girl and I don't recall ever wearing a ci*****
new one for me too!
No, it's not an actual blouse - it's just a saying for when a man isn't exactly macho - he's a big girl's blouse....
le 8-9 combo?
le 8-9 -- starts with eyeglass ***s + vowel + the great suffix in this grid
le 9 is the plural
le8 - ends in the charged particle, gets there by means of a baby louse
obviously just a Brit saying Haz
It must be, scarydeb....
ty ARB and Haz
You're welcome, cybernan.
os 7?
Haz,ci**** (from a girl's name) doesn't work--used to be Englih sk=lang for a namby-pamby male
os 7 sounds ike a frozen treat on a stick
hetty - make it plural, though.
ty, arb
Yup, works as plural. How about that. They must come in pairs!
have all the 9's, but still need 5 8's
I'll never don a blouse again without thinking of you, Haz
Glad it worked for you, hetty.
What a thought!
how many ox's?
There are two, cybernan, a 4 and a 5
two
ok -- got them
Afternoon all....just popping in to see you all while I have a chance!!
Hi Caitlyn
Hello caitlyn - nice to see you.
en6/18, en8/40 combo? Saw a clue way back about something Greek... didn't help me.
en plus a vowel, then shortened female sibling. The en8 is its plural.
en 6 en + vowel + female sibling.
oooh, thanks arb
Haz - you and I have been making very siilar definitions.
I know - if they don't get it from our clues, they're in trouble.....
Or we're in trouble!
They'll yell if there's a problem.
I expect you're right.
I seem to be going through a phase of being to dense to clue!!LOL
You just need to get your clue receptors calibrated, caitlyn...
Howdy Cait! Sorry i didn't see you, I've been cursing at the C. How are you?
Has anybody seen or heard from Flask recently? She used to be on regularly but am realising I haven't seen her on for ages.
Hi bunny..Im great thanks..daughter passed her nursing degree so all great with the world..How are you and my adopted grandchildren?
Congrats to your daughter! Twins are sick...again. I'm starting to think they are getting all this from school. They go back tomorrow, it's hard keeping them glued to the couches! Older three went to a dance last week, Ice met a boy there and didn't tell me about it.
No Haz I havnt seen Flask
ci7 please?
It's strange - hope she is okay.
ci7 - a collection of non-macho men (different spelling to the si7 version)
Sorry the twins are ill again perhaps when the weather improves they will be better...Now your age is showing when the others are going out to dances..LOL
ci 7 was clued a while ago -- mispellingfor a word that sounds
thanks haz
You're welcome, Bloodaxe.
stuck on no 8/45 just above the smelling organ. Please help
sorry - I sent a half-baked clue.
I know, all of 28...almost 30. I'm getting little lines around my eyes. I plan on going to all dances with them now. Momma is gonna do the robot and monkey, see how many dates they get after that!
no 8 - person who puts up another perso's name for election
The mind boggles bunny LOL
no8/45 - French no, and relating to a charged particle (the almost frozen water ending)
Sorry again -- I gave the clue for no 9. But I have also FINISHED !
yea it worked haz, thanks
Congrats ARB!!!
Well done ARB!
Yay ARB!
You're welcome, inge.
congrats, arb
morning all! Total for today?
just bopping in to say a lunchtime hello, and congrats to ARB. That's an accomplishment!
295 words
wow.

Thanks. Haz.
295 walnut//Hi
with lots of very long words, walnut
Hi Inge2
hi Caitlyn!
last ca6/21 please?
. Tahnks for the warning inge... too bad I already started?!?
How are you walnut?
ca 6/21: -- monte carlo?
:) it's rather fun, cait, though I'm sure I don't have time to finish
ca6/21 - a flavouring - ends in verb form of 'to be'
ca 6/21: black current brandy
got it...thanks.
*currant
ca 6/21 - delicious berry liquer
I finished earlier but it took ages
that's great caitlyn!
ooh Bloodaxe, sorry to interrupt, was it you who said had a theme idea?
Hi Babbler are you feeling better?
hahaha...yes babbler... but i'll email it to you.
Getting there, caitlyn, thanks. :) How are you?
ok Bloodaxe. : )
does the first ca7 build off the ca4/5?
No, it doesn't.
Im fine thanks Babbler..just popped in for a short while
if carp, orca, taiga, etc can be a word, why not nessie?
thanks haz.
i really don't like "c" words.
As in the monster?
Poke its eye out ..
I cant find the la8&10 please clue - know it comes of the first la6 but cant seem to get there
Could I have a clue for el 7/8? Go easy on me, my brain is at half speed today...
Hi tor..lol
*off
la8 - the quality of being decorated with the seethrough fabric (use the loch monster ending) The 10 is the unlikely plural.
el7 - the same ending as when two worlds collide - there has been a coll*****.
who's to say there are'nt a whole breed of little monsters swimming around that lake?
Or, el, verb form of to be, blessed charged particile ending.
Ty Haz, and for that silly la 10 as well.
nan they cant be I have been baby sitting most of them lately
let's face it -- we have ogopogo, Vancouver has cadboro, Winnipeg has winipogo -- I think it is a new breed of fish!
There was a great children's cartoon series on a few years ago based on 'The Family Ne4/4' Characters included 'Sportiness, Happiness etc'
mam...my monkey's on fire today!
Not yet Cait, Spring Break in two weeks, I'm Fed Ex'in mine overseas :)
i am just not getting the la8. all i see is the la6 like the old tv show dog
Dispatch - think of an adjective for the fabric we're talking about, drop the y, exchange it for a vowel and add the loch monster ending
go north, dispatch
We have just had the half term holidays here plus I look after the baby a least a couple of days/nights aweek now...anyway time for me to go again..happy babling all see you tomorrow ..bye
Bye Cait
There was a play featuring Arsenic and old ?
Bye caitlyn
la 8: a bridal veil is made of la 4/5 -- sometimes it has extraordinary la 8
okay..i see where i'm to go...but not extending it to the 8
thanks nan...trying it
tx for that one, folks. back to work!
the adverb for la 4/5 is la 4/8 -- change that back to a noun by changeing the last letter and adding the scottish monster
Bye inge 2.
tx cybernan - dispatch i was trying to use the "end" of the loch monster word - use the beginning of the loch word
omgolly...that's what i was doing!!! thanks ursh!
Going to take a break - keep babbling!
finally broke 100 -- exactly 1/3 of the way through! I think the next step is a visit to Lickety!
100 words? i'm up to 65 and happy
*2/3 of the way through!
no I have 200 words now -- never was any good at math!
well, that makes my head hurt
Any clues please for the bottom row N?
NOne
thanks, but that one's credited from the third row.
no 4/4 -- another word for grandma
I have this crazy self-imposed rule that I cannot go to Lickety's list unless I have have over half the words OR on terrible puzzles like today's, I have to find one word for each box. Yeah, I'm a little Monk obsessive/compulsive
Thanks, nan, but that one's credited from the top row N.
Munner, I have the exact same rule
very strange - so do i and by the way - hello all
no 6: lound sound plural
Munner, no 6/21 is like the no 9/60 minus the last two letters, The no 9/60 is one who elects to a ballot (sounds like the bottom number of a fraction)
vp chat, your'e a bosum buddy as in Anne of Green Gables.
hi hi hihhihihihihihihihihi
no 7/28: louder (making more no 5)
Nan, that one's credited from top row, too. Alas!@
si7/28 please? the first one.
no 9: one who proposes someone for the electoral slate
vp, munner, i relax that rule in that if i exceed half on one letter and fall short on another, it counts as half
no 8/45 - not + particle + fozen ending (I'm looking to see which is the last one)
hi everyone.. some tuff grid today! Babble lunchtime..hope to find a few more
si 7/28 -- Blood, if true, you could throw the first stone
Bless you, Nan for no 9. Whew!
no 8/40 - what you smell with, add the Loch Monster ending (being in another's business)
And, to you too, bunny for the no8.
wonderfull clue br...thanks.
Babble Friends Rule!
ty bunny for the no 6 -- the one I was missing
going for a coffee and will be back with the list!
Munner, did you leave off the last three letters of the no 9 for the no 6?
Bye Nan
I'm lost on the ME words. Do they all have the same base?
Same first three letters.
The first two are a oluraled pair, the second two are variations of one another (a vowel in the end is the only difference)
HI everyone.
se7/32 please?
Munner, are you feeling these days
Hi Peri
I dunno... I think I've been staring at this grid too long. Time for a break. This is a tough one!
Blood, add onto the se 5/10 before it, Everest is a **untain, plural for se 8
nm..for it.
According to Bobby Brown, "roni" is a word. Hasn't Babble ever heard "My Tender Roni"? sheesh. ;^) p.s. hi all
found it
Sorry, slow on the take, couldn't think of anything...
that's ok bunny..thanks anyway.
RED!
huh?
GONE!
ha... I almost yelled "SHOES"
kind of day.
*that* kind of say... sheesh... see?
Yup ..
how about the second to last se7/28?
Ya know, I've heard of Rice-a-Roni, does that count?
back with my coffee --- scoffed a chocolate while I was in the kitchen -- need yesterday's quirt applied!
se 7/28 - spell like a projectile weapon fired from a jet, mi*****
al/7 please
=) back in the 80s, I guess, Bobby Brown had a song called "My Tender Roni." It was on the same CD as "My Perrogative," a song dually ruined by Britney Spears... though she does fit the lyrics.
thanks bunny! totally redeemed :)
and I so want to look svelte for our son's wedding in August! --- do yo know, my husband actually likes exercising!!!! I need a pill that will dissolve fat and a wrinkle cream that really works!
ollag are you playing
al 7 starts with the visitors from space, then add **ange
(**ange fruit)
cybernan... you'll look amazing. drink a LOT of water, it'll flush toxins, pep up your skin and help you glow. =) and just keep at the rest, even if you don't want to!
thanks bunny
Did Hursh already finish the grid?
Hi, all. Bunny, that gave me the 10! Thank you!
Sure :)
brb, need more coffee
just have to find the will power, redshoes!
Doh... and the 11!
*phew* done with the s's.
an7/32 please
I understand that, nan! I have to push myself to work out. Just don't over do it... any of it. My skin's the best when I don't over-treat it. And working out too hard only "fries" your body. You have to keep your heart rate in the right target zone. It's lower than most people think. =) Walking did it for me. Running makes my heartrate soar!
don';t know about hurshy, but sprite finished as usual
bunny...is there a 9 and 10 off the al5/10
only 6 words to go, time for my aquatics excercise class, hope I find time later to finish. Picking up a bunch of German hockey fans from the airport later, to deiliver to their hotel.
later inge!
bbl
bye peri
chat's going slow now... everyone off to lunch or something?
Phonecalls etc. ..
Rolin, there is a 10,11,9 & 7 off the al 5/10
thanks bunny! that helped a lot!
add the word the "n" stands for in UN
helped me get a lot of words, actually
clue for the an 7/32 pls.

last an 6/21?
an 7/32, add the frozen ending to the an 5/10 before it
Morning everyone. Can I get some help with a few 8's? CA8 x 2, and the last en8?
an 7: an5 + facial twitch - first letter
hello all, just getting on... too many words today, kid home sick, dogs bored. Situation normal! LOL
in 5 is like the veggie that makes you cry
Strider, an7/32 is like ANother take on the bi*****man
How can you tell when a dog is bored?
thanks bunny
hi stid.. hang in there, spring is going to be early, according to the groundhog..
thks hetty.
*whine whine whine* *pace pace pace* *looks longingly out window* any more questions?

Hello Stid. Another brute of a grid. wine is giid for whines

Both ca 8's are plural of the words before them
This is what I'm saying ..
cybernan, an4 plus your nervous twitch

Yowsa! Thank ye.
The last ca 7/32 is like the word before it, double one of the cons.
thanks.
Lucky for me, I got off work early, and can tackle this baby.
the first ca7?
hi Lori!
Thanks bunny
no8,40? The last one?
Hursh, take the last two letters off the student and add **e your shoes ... I think (not sure who Mccain is)
Pop tarts and black coffe. Snack food of Babble champions!
thanks bunny
John McCain is not a congressman, but a SE****...
no 8/40 - what you smell with + loch monster (being in another's business)
ar 7/28?
john mccain is a se7 from arizona, ran for pres in 2000, is running again next year...
mmmmm Lori, sounds like being a bachelorette!
Lori: that is exactly what I have in my hand: coffee and blueberry pop tarts!
ar 7 - ar + vowel + what you smell with
LOL I gotta' eat the Pop Tart fast, before the kids get home from school and catch me.
or8? If it builds off the or7, I just don't see it
so apparently you are not a DR who specializes in nutrition...
Yeah... I know who Bush is... I have no memory at all.
ty, bunny
is pl of or7....
Nope. Specialize in poli sci
ok, my lastest word. first si 7/28...?
LOL then you knew who John McCain is! :-)
si 7/28 - more of a wussy?
I eblieve stid is implying that Pop tarts ahve no redeeming nutritional value.... :)
crap crap crap. Went the wrong way with the or. Thanks. I should learn to stop looking, and just type it in
I thought they used real fruit filling!?
yep. He is a somewhat liberal Republican who wants the Republican nomination
that's actually the second, bunny, there is one that comes earlier, after trig functions
One more clue? The first en6,18.
oh my! I just looked at the tile and word stats... EVILEVEN? *sigh* better get the list fast.
gah... for a person who graduated with a degree in Rhetoric, I can't believe I didn't see those ORs...
si7 - the kind of person who gets to cast the first stone
ar 6/21 pls
ah, thanks vi
en 6/18 - en + part of the plant that drinks water
ar 6/12 - ar + you ***k yourself when shaving, add vowel
Thanks bunny, but that's the last one. I need the first en6,18
So congrats on your completion.
DRWED, please give me your opinion. i loved mccain when he ran in 2000, but have not been thrilled with how he's conducted himself during the present administration. i mean, i was pleased he got the prisoner treatments stuff through, but i also felt like he agreed with bush more than i expected. did he just HAVE to do that? what do you think we could expect from a president mccain?
thks bunny. still trying to figure out vicuna's si 7 clue.
ar 6/18?
I like that ar 6. it's a homeopathic helper that makes bruises go away faster.
red, I was just about to say that! :-)
the ar 6/21 that is.
I keep a tube of it with my first aid kit, actually.
Hurshy. If you don't know what to expect from a person, then he shouldn't be president.
=)
sorry - en 6 - en + vowel + opp of brother
no idea redshoes -- not into medicines much
well you never REALLY know what to expect, with all the people spinning things... you have to cut through a lot of crap to figure out any politician
McCain did that because he wants the GOP nomination. You have to be conservative to get it...but if elected he will not govern that way. In that sense he is like Bill Clinton (ran as a conservative but governed like a liberal)
nan - ar 6 = a word that means put on sacred oil, but change the first two consonants
AMEN hurshy
ty strider
si 7 - you ass for forgiveness of these + opp of more
i feel like '08 is going to be a tough choice. mccain, as i said, i loved. o'bama is great but can he handle the foreign policy stuff? he doesn't have much experience. i'm ambivalent about hillary. kind of like biden.
67 to go. Gotta run. Thanks for the help
I meant ask, not ass - SORRY!
i don't mean hillary is kind of like biden, i mean *i* kind of like biden.
later pigeon!
whatever, bunny... tyvm, I needed that. This grid is trying my patience.
thks bunny and your word is part of one in the grid
i'd definitely like to see o'bama in there at some point, but maybe not this go-round.
There are a lot of odd ones, but the same endings are getting passed around quite a bit.
Is it a penalty if I don't say the whole word?
Obama has more experience with the "outside world" than George did...at least he has travelled
Ack! There are re words.....
a's grey!!
yes but now the world is a heck of a lot more of a mess... and mccain clearly has a lot MORE experience...
They aren't bad.
Obama has only been in Senate for two years (4 by time 08 rolls around). Plus, to win you have to at least split the south. The south will go heavily against him. Plus, his middle nameis Hussein.
No penalty unless you type the actual word, bunny. Though I don't think you would be penalized if you typed in the eleven...
the south is still... a problem.... like that?
If Obama gets DEM nomination, the GOP wins the general election. Same is true for Hilary
as far as experience in dealing with the trouble spots, Richardson is head & shoulders above all the others....
how long do you think it would take before obama (right, no apostrophe, duh) COULD get the south?
who's richardson?
The south is better, but it is still a bit of a problem
You need the 11? Visitors from another world + UN stands for United *
i love bill richardson...mostly
oh, uh, hi everyone!
so what dems do you think would stand a chance, DRWED?
Colin powell might could win the south. But the south is beoming more conservative
thanks bunny!
Hi Fiz, adn Hursh and Stid for that matter...
Bill Richardson is the gov. of New Mexico...was a UN ambassador, has negotiated with N. Korea, etc etc etc
It would have to be a moderate democrat, and there are fewer and fewer of those.
hey Fizzeroo! home from work already?
got your email, will respond soon...
working from home today - writing a dastardly campaign plan and my brain is full :) so here i am.
Richardson is not as "eloquent" as Obama
lol drwed - but is he as clean?
:-) Well you came to the right place to un-full your brain! LOL
ROTFL
i think we've lacked eloquence in politics for far too long, and that it really does make a difference. i think it is good for a pres to be able to use words to inspire people.
definitely want to see obama as president when the time is ripe.
Yea, I got all the al's by myself.
I tend to go the other way. Eloquent presidents get into trouble
good for you, Lori!
But stupid presidents get the rest of us in trouble.
but, oh for the days of lincoln!
lol vi
amen to that. lol!
Clinton is a good example. Effective speaker, but used that for no good. As far as presidents go...he legacy adds up to nothing. He had a dep psychological need to be liked, which led him to not take on the tough issues.
ooh. I got a "pertinent" SA 7 all by myself! *happy smile*
ok, just to be realistic here, i don't see any way richardson can be president... he's too goofy looking.
George W. Bush, on the other hand, has no need to be liked, and he has taken on some difficult issues. Paid the price, but he does not feel it.
Hmmm... I'm guessing I know how DrWed votes.
yeah but not all eloquent men are alike... i can't see obama having remotely similar problems to those clinton had.
Think I'm gonna head to Sudoku then soak my sinuses in a steam bath, see ya'll tomorrow. Be good :)
Unfortunately, everyone else is feeling it.
I tend not to vote. I am a scholar, not an advocate
later bunny, feel better!
I meant, he is not feeling the heat from low approval
mccain obviously will take on tough issues.
Feel betetr soon bunny!
bye, bunny.. get better
but, that leads me to another question. can mccain - or anybody - actually perhaps accomplish MORE as a senator than as president?
There are 14 an words? Get outta' town.....
The only thing presidents do is exercise judgment, that is, make decisions. So, a candidate should be judged on their judgment. Have they a good record of judgment.
has the presidency perhaps become so much of a spin-game and balancing act that no president can really accomplish much of significance?
or fail to exercise it, drwed!
well, i definitely felt, during the 2000 election, that i would trust mccain's judgment.
Every president since Eisenhower is considered a failure by historians and political scientists except for Reagan (whether you like his politics or not)
LOL Lori, I don't have the list yet, but not surprised... I am over 100 though, so it might be ti**
i used to think the same about mccain, hursh, but he ran a moderate campaign in past years, and this year he's gone way right. so - not my politics, but I also hate political pandering. which makes voting difficult....
yeah, i know what you mean, fiz.
Judgement, like luck and taste in clothing, comes in both good and bad.
Kennedy (who did not have much of a legislative legacy), LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Carter
this is great, it is so rare that we americans talk about politics like this.
lol vic! how true!
(fortunately, all of us here are good in both!)
McCain has to do that to get the nomination. Staying liberal cost him the nomination in 1996 and 2000
so often when i want to just have a sensible discussion and consider things, people refuse to even talk about politics.
He has to establish his conservative credentials to get the nomination from Republicans
part of my job is lobbying at the state level and it's totally gross - watching people we elect weasel out of making decisions, standing up for prinicple, doing something that they know is right but may be unpopular... and it's true across the board, regardless of politics.
yeah, i've been HOPING that's all it is...
Every candidate panders. They have to. The task is to evaluate sincerity
yes Fix, that was my experience as well. There are some good people in government, but unfortunately many if not most are pretty slimy.
To be electable one must be unworthy of high office.
I think kid is being sick again. back soon.
kerry, i didn't get. i mean when i saw those videos of him talking about vietnam in his younger days, i was very impressed. and then as he was running for pres, i was like, where did THAT guy go? i'd elect him... but who is this?
i think mccain, the "straight talk guy", has lost some sincerity in the last couple of years. and he's not very good at pandering either - it should at least look like you mean it :)
I tend to shy away from the ambitious. If they want office so bad that they run after only serving 1 term as mayor, governor, or senator, that kind of ambition disqualifies them in my view.
but fiz, it's kind of good that he's not good at pandering, don't you think? i mean the fact that he has trouble hiding what he really thinks means it is easier for us to tell what he really thinks.
hurshy he was hiding on johnkerry.com - they put forth a wooden facimile who totally lacked the ability to speak in soundbites - a KEY skill for electability
no kidding. in the debates, sometimes, i was like, ok, good answer, now stop, and he'd keep talking for five more minutes or whatever.
he really should have had me to help him.
hursh, I think mccain's getting confused about what he really thinks. and it's weird and icky to watch. and, if you want to run, of COURSE you have to pander - hopefully to folks with lots of $$ - but then they own you.
KISS --" Keep it simple stupid". Brevity is the key to effective communication.
of course, that backfired on gore with the whole "lockbox" thing...
That's exactly the problem: keeping it stupid.
That is what I tell my students
ROFL hursh! well said drwed! this is a skill i'm cultivating now in work - but breaking complex ideas into 8 sec. soundbites can be difficult. especially when you know "the american public" won't go elsewhere to flesh out their understanding.
Gore's problem is that Social Security was not the most important issue on people's mind. Plus he (and his party) had a lousy record re: keeping hands off social security fund.
He made the lcok box the center of his campaign.
That, plus inventing the internet. ANd thank God he did or we would not be able to enjoy or Babble
bush's presidency has been such a monumental shift for the republicans, fiscally...
they used to complain about "tax and spend" democrats and then bush comes in and spends without taxing...
The reasons the Republicans lost Congress in 06 is because they had gone to Washington to change it, but ended up getting changed by it.
unsa na?
They, too, could not resist the temptation to spend like drunken sailors
so - from this discussion - we need a candidate who doesn't care much about anything (so they won't mind breaking it down to short but inaccurate soundbites). They must look smart, but be a little dim and malleable. They can't be ambitious, but can't be slackers. And they should have a track record of making executive decisions. Pronouncing words correctly is optional.
Hi, all. If I can interrupt the politics: how many words today?
um, so like bush but for the appearance of smartness thing...?
2nd cl 7?
i don't think so!
The an's just dropped my IQ by several digits I couldn't afford to lsoe.....
295 words
I would like to take this opportunity to announce my candidacy for the presidency of the United States!
lol DRWED
golly gee, flip, you want to focus on BABBLE? 295
hey fiz, 295
Thanks hurshy. Hee. ;)
DRWED for President! Running on a platform of equitable treatment by the Enable dictionary!
i'm a snob... i sort of think you should have to take some sort of quiz in order to be allowed to vote...
i can just see it ... the american public goes "the enable dictionary? huh? what's a dictionary?"
That is called a literacy test, and it is outlawed by the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965
hey, it could be an oral quiz
2nd cl 7? -- please?
hursh you get impeached for that.
You would not want me as president. If I were president, Iraq would now be a parking lot.
they paved paradise...?
nan, have you got the one to do with 'groups of children in school'?
yes
With a good old-fashioned strip mall, with a Starbucks and everything.
then change the last letter (you actually want the first cl7)
ok, i don't have the other one either!
STARBUCKS! you just lost my vote
and one who sorts things according to order
looking for the last cl 7/32
hmm, the third then? creme de ca6 with an L stuck in it?
oooh thankyou :-)
Starbucks is my way of torturing them
ohhhhhh
but i thought we didn't torture.
I
I'm with you, DRWED
a's are done, and if I may, I hated each and every one of them...
ty, hurshy
Apparently we do, there is a Starbucks on every street corner
i'd take starbucks over waterboarding :)
mmm coffee
i dunno, i like water and i can't STAND coffee
Hey, did I miss the political discussion? Darn.
and poptarts
no, we can keep it going, put in your 2 cents k.elis
Starbucks does have clean bathrooms. I'll say that for them.
yay lorip! i'm running my yap (which doesn't quite translate to online chat) rather than working on my list. and now it's time for me to clean up my act, get the cat hair off my pants, and go lobby myself :(
really,I can't stay
en 6?
i mean, lobby, myself. not lobby myself.
LOL Fiz
lol fiz
Yeah, keep it going so I can concentrate on the grid ...
ROFL go Fiz go! :-)
en6 add cirrh**** of the liver
Are you serious about not likeing coffee? <eyes Hurshy suspiciously>
I am way too opinionated to join a political discussion here. I'd get booted..... :)
or the bottom bits of trees
i'm serious - i've never had coffee, don't even like the smell. my dad indoctrinated me on this from a very young age.
<--- I will keep my eye open too (giggle)

thanks hurshy
I like coffee, tea, cocoa... but I don't like carbonated things. I have to let them go flat before they're tolerable.
i've never had alcohol either, except communion wine, and that only in the last 2 years or so.
and i've never had a pepsi
Well, I have confirmed that noserot is not a word
have those too
I keep trying "assinine" and it keeps not working.
i've had coke twice, the first time was a sip, by accident, and the second time was a whole can that i drank just to be polite.
en 6 -- last en word?
asinine. but nine isn't there, so...
While I was pregnant the taste of coffee was revolting (not that I was drinking any anyway). But the smell - I couldn't get enough of the smell. I'd make my husband coffee all the time jsut so I could smell it
to bad chiley, because that word would have come in handy around here in allergy season!

hi fedders!
got it -- thanks, blood
aww, poor stidkid!
haha...thank god...i didn't know what would happen if i had to try to clue it again.
i had my midwife appt today which went well, then got to drop near $400 on the car when i took it for inspection.
can,t get my head around this today only 145 dun
apparently bald tires aren't the "in" thing.
just noticed this board is wearing glasses -- it had Four Is
os6/18?
feather - the mega millions jackpot is over $280 million dollars. i will help you get your car fixed when i win it (already promised vicuna new brakes for her car!)
larli, its tough, this one today.
glad the midwife appt went well -- the new tires are a good thing, though inconvenient budget wise I know...
lol, the car's fixed, but you can pay for the new honda oddessy i want!
gwen - groan
os + oh say can you **e + not out but **
np feather - maybe i can talk you into a mercedes instead?
yeah, apparently new tires have 11/32 of an inch tread. mine had 2/32 and 3/32 on average.
helen, 8-D
helen -- when you win, could I have the money to fix my little car? then tom could drive the minivan...
se 6/18 after one who's over the hill?
thatnks gwen>
absolutely stid!

and I will dogsit for you helen, so you can go have a week at a spa of your choice! :-)
nope, heart's set on the oddessy! dvd player for the kids on long trips, double side doors that open on their own, heated seats, etc
what !!!! just a week, damn, i am going to buy the spa & just move in!
oh we have an oddessy -- it's wonderful!
don't have the dvd or bun warmers though
my bro/sis in law have one, i got to drive it. niiiiiice!
yeah, but watch the odyssey for clever Micro-soft impersonation... my mother's is much newer than mine and only two adapters -- one in the very far back (unreachable from any seat) and one in the front (at floor level, you have to stop the car and get out to reach it)
se6/18 is a bronze or brass coin of tonga
se6/18 - same first 3 letters + not "he" or "she" but ** + vowel
feather - there is a trick you do with a penny to see if your tires have too much wear - you put the penny in & then you should only see abe's eyes (i think, better check to make sure)
second an6/21 please
hey, if i'm going to buy my first brand new car, i'm going to go all out! i've been getting hand me downs from my mom all my life.
oh! in that case, if you build a little house, my dogs and I will come be caretakers for you!
adapters for what stid?
abe could have sported a mohawk with my tires!
um, nan -- do you want the "Mrs" version of Mr?
pab an - like the veg. that makes you cry
thanks, blood -- tried it with the other two vowels, but not the correct one!
no, I see you didn't. *sigh* I am a little slow today...
okay, okay, an odessy it is then, whatever will make you happy!
the adapters to run things, featherbee. We used to call them "cigarette lighters" LOL
flosey that's a 6/18 i need the last an6/21
oh, those things! lol
may I have the se 7/8 combo? thanks in advance...
os7/32 please?
that's what mine is like too -- very useful when the grandkids want to plug their laptops in to have an adaptor in the back seat!
sorry pab, not as easy to clue start with the herb, and ending **e cream
pab - japanese cartoons
*diving back in*
filled in a little blue box at alst! LOL
yes nan, we have to run extension cords in the car on long trips! :-/ whatever happened to the license plate game?
os 7/32: a little like a frozen ice treat on a stick

With permission, I take it?

'Night, Dachef. Enjoy Espana!

Dachef is telling US to be good?
ahhhh....and why are you a goddess today? as opposed to a queen like the other day?
en6/18 - Greek political movement
blood: en + nutcase has psych****
I'm always good !!!
i'm always the queen, but on certain days that i choose, i am a goddess
yw firefly
lol, sounds fun!
en 6/18: + german secret service (no double consonant) + sibling. plural for the 8

hey scrab! how ya be?
I've never been to Benidorm, Karys. What a surprise....

en 6: en + underground part of plant
bbl
Hi Scrabbler. How's Sebastian?
Hi haz !
hoiw many words are in this grid?
295, momof3.
295 mom
Hello cybernan - just in to say goodnight and got caught up in conversation, as usual!
are all the me's begin the same?
yikes...too many for my brain to handle!
I finished little while ago -- lots of interruptions today
They have the same third letter, Bloodaxe.
yes blood
ar5/12 please? i know it's right under my are****
i should be doing my spanish homework...
first me rhymes with that buttocks word we had a couple of days ago
ar5/12 - a plus a reworking of the paddy field product
i'm missing the last two me7's.
next me is the plural of the first.
last two meis have medical suffixes
singular and plural medical suffixes
tx haz. got it
ok...i am going to do my spanish homework..that is , if the boys let me concentrate..if not, i will be back LOL
i can't remember the butt word haz
anyone else need a clue before I go?
I was off checking e-mail. Jacula--the vet could not locate the tear duct opening last Friday, for little Sebastian, but she flushed the area with saline, and sent him home on 2 different eye drops, and Baytril (enrofloxacin) x 10 d. By the next day there was no tearing and he has been dry since! I hope it stays this way.
can you clue the first mi6/21?
Baytril - the wonder drug....
mi 6/21: worker, slave -- ends like the crying veggie
Scrabbler - Glad to hear it! Kira came home today in a lovely carved box. She is now on the bookshelf beside her favourite armchair.
blood....old fashioned word for servants
mi6 - mi + the crying veggie minus the first letter
thanks. this grid doesn't like me very much.
what i am to my kids sometimes
ugh, those me's just aren't manifesting themselves...i think my monkey left me for another ;(
it was a toughie, blood -- would never have finished without all the help I received!
How nice for Kira, to be back in her favorite hang-out. I have a pet cemetery with 3 bunnies and many hamsters.
hi all
try adding third vowel firefly
Must go and start supper -- thanks for the help, everyone -- back at the flip :)
Hi, bye angel
any clues for the en7?
And is the feeling mutual, Bloodaxe?
the help is one of the great things about this game...we're al in it together.
bye nan
Hazel, even you know Baytril! It is expensive--$1/pill, as one of my bunnies is on 1 pill/day for life.
Karys - i get that, it's the only option for the next letter! Just lost afterwards...
Scrabbler - same here re the cemetery. Kira wasn't an outdoor sort of girl though.
of course haz...
My supper is cooking--salmon steak and yam--in the oven.
Baytril is widely used in the large animal side of the practice.
mi6/21? the last one
Love salmon. Never tried yam.
Kira had a special life, giving and receiving lots of love.
firefly...someone who is not very generous ?
en7 - e + the UN minus the U word :) then plural for en8
Does your husband take care of cows, horses, sheep, etc--thos big ones, Hazel?
Karys - great clue, that worked! Are there more me's?
firefly... the ME6: what a little kid calls another kid if they're not being nice "You're a me****" sp. slightly diff.
Yes - it's a mixed practice but he specialises more on the large animal side.
Aw, thanks Scrabbler. We had a condolence card from the vet a couple of days ago. It has a pic of a cat on the front and said, 'with deepest sympathy at the loss of your companion, Kira'. Made us cry but we were very touched.
I dated a large-animal vet, maybe 15 yrs ago, and he would tell me fascinating stories.
then plural it for the 7. the next ME7: me + me, myself, & * + circle vowel + snake, 2nd vowel, snake
yes firefly....same start + garden watering implement without the 'h'
Yes, vets have some tales to tell, that's for sure.
the last me7 same as the one before it but sub. 3rd vowel for the 2nd
My vets have always sent sympathy cards, even after I have had a hamster euthanized.
last mi6/21 please?
clue please for the MI6/21 after breath candy
The lady vet, Dr Louise, called Sebastian a "sweet little soul" the other day. He is just 3 lbs and so gentle that she loved him up.
thx ADHD and Karys!
Maybe I should be looking for words, what with these clues flying past. Just 244 to go---I think even 50% is a longshot tonight.
ADHD....mi + same garden watering implemants without the 'h'
It's nice when the animals don't try to bite or scratch - a bit of an occupational hazard.
Scrabbler - aaah. Most vet's (with one notable local exception whom I do NOT give my custom to) are lovely, caring folks. They wouldn't be in the job if they didn't care for animals, after all.
i don't get it karys sry
do you do much with the practice Haz ?
ADHD - two mi's just like the last me's you just clued me
n'mind. i was thinking of watering can, etc
gotta go for a bit. headache needs tending. bbl
Karys - I answer the emergency line on a rota basis after the surgery has closed and also at weekends. I help out occasionally in the surgery if they're short on admin staff.
The 'exception' seems more interested in the money than in the animals and even killed one of our Russian hamsters by 'scruffing' him too hard.
sometyhing you enjoy Haz ?
I've got used to it, I suppose, although interrupted sleep is never great. I enjoy the interaction with the clients - most of the time.
sad times too, I expect..... and I must go now, pumpkin changed an hour ago !
Oh dear, Jacula! What a horror story!
I know - all those age-defying creams only work if you sleep as well!
Scrabbler. Yes. Needless to say, we never darkened his doors again!
lol....don't seem to work at all on me !!....ni nite !!
Haz - LOL.
'Night, Karys.
ar6/18?
see you all tomorow, I hope....sleep tite x
And so to bed. Nice to speak with you all. Night!
hello everyone. this puzzle is slow going for me. ty for the clues so far. i am sure i will be asking for more.
'Night, Haz. See you next grid.
Hi bookwomen.

Dinner is done...good night folks! See you tomorrow.

i'm calling my mom to chat about idol! brb!

stid - I've been around but haven't felt much like chatting since my cat died last week.
where's smd???
don't know, nut, her boy and hurshy had a nice conversation earlier though!
oh Jacula! I hadn't heard! I am so sorry....
Thanks, stid. It was very sudden and unexpected.
that just makes it harder. {{{Jacula}}}

***I hate this grid***
on a leash??? Surely a cat would never allow that???
me too lori
straight up feather....you can totally take them for a walk.
i have walked my cats on a leash when we lived in the city. they did quite well.
huh? lol
Hi everyone still have 85 to find
see, bookwomen can leash walk her kitkats, and they aren't even savannahs
Lori, this grid is a killer. I am allowing myself to stop when I get halfway, which mewans I have only a few words to go'
I tried it and my cat totally freaked out
if i collar my cat, he hunkers down and crawls everywhere.
I am 102 words away, and will finish even if I ahve to go postal..... ;)
you can do it, lori!!
WTG Lori go go
leslie hunt is totally gonna go
the cats of my acquaintance have been mostly very haughty and aloof, not leashable. Very inmteresting...

i have a friend whose cat is very dog-like--I can totally treat her like I would a dog--and she's very vocal too! :-)
feather, same herb, add my dog had a t** had to be removed

dunno swmbo, if one around here ever needs rescued i'll let you know.
anyone care if i just ask for a bunch of clues? i feel like i'm being a pest! not used to asking for so many i guess. anyway, ar6/21?
it's just been a revelation to me--I'd never met friendly cats that let me play with them like a dog
ask away feather
I like dogs and cats, but I must admit a preference to dogs
Fatcat was an apartment cat and we lived in downtown Chicago and he would prance around the city streets on his leash showing off for everyone. he was vocal as well and went visiting in the building. he did not give me his paw, but he would play fetch, espcially socks and underwear. he was some cat and lived to 25 years.
oh, me too, swmbo
i don't ahev the ar7/21 sorry
it's a yellow flower - often used in natural medications
my preference is for cats, and i may disagree with swmbo today
