i'll be right back, 1 word left and i'm hoping a short break will bring it into focus
seeya, fran!
dear jilli, the problem is simple: as long as the cursor remains in the chatbox window after posting an entry in the chat, we will post words in the chat after that. Never mind and sorry I was teasing you about it.

well, so much for that, lol. Congrats, macc!
thnks sprite! that last one took me awhile.
was it the one I had?
no i think it meant old and crusty?
macca--the last sst 5/18--another name for cigar.
yay macca
YAY macca!!
thanks both :)
congrats, macca
you know, that cigar word - the place I know that from is from the song "cause I'm a wanderer.... a wanderer... I roam around around around...."

Actually it also means heavy boot or shoe as well as cigar?I thank you all and goodnight!

miranda: starts with a male, ends with first 3 letters of what you must do to prove yourself.
Thanks, sprite!!!!
and why you cannot find it: it is one of those words that look like a plural, but don't have a valid singular. They always drive me bananas!
Yes--I tried the singular and didn't think to add an "s"
exactly! Happens to me every time.
'nares' is another one.
yes--and na***--that's on the grid. I've memorized that one.
personally I think they have been specially invented to challenge babblers
mirandapan - i memorize them over and over and some still get stuck
Yep--like a couple more na words that have all vowels, and I can never remember the order
at my age memorize is a word i think i remember, lol
ah, the greek temple ones, naos and naoi? Took me ages to see them without prompting.
Now, Andree--you're younger than I am---lol
yes, sprite--I just keep typing them until I get the letters straight
Fireworks here thanks all for great clues
Exactly hal way, and I'm getting sleeeepy
yay ursh
I finally got to the stage where I start typing anoa naos naoi as soon as I see the letters are in the grid, no matter where, lol.

yay ursh!
lollllll jilli - try once more!
and the volcano?
yep, but that is in the grid today, couldn't add it :)

night miranda, hi BabbleRabble!
naaa babble you made that up!!
night miranda -- hi babrab!
goedendag
just love it when you speak Dutch :)
and fireworks here as well. My last one was my very own niece, sy5/18.
Zouave soldiers actually began in North Africa but the "craze" made it to America prior to the Civil War. New York and Pennsylvania were among the states who had Zouave units. What made these troops different? They had fancy drills and even fancier colorful uniforms of baggy pants and leggings to go with their shortened jacket and hat. As the uniforms wore out during the war, the federal government would not replace them. By the end of the war, Zouave soldiers were all but a memory.
YAY sprite, and thanks for your niece's lovely name
Congrats, sprite
yay sprite
Interesting, babrab
hiccup time -- over now I see
thanks BabbleRabble, will try to remember. Is it only capitalized or would it be valid in babble as well?
it is a word for a jacket too.. may be valid
just another word that floats in and out of my consciousness
checked it in wordfinder, and it is valid :) Love the word, btw. Atalante would love it too, I am sure.
clue for sy please
hope your headache is gone
gotten down to a manageable level, BabbleRabble, and I trust it will fade further today. Thanks :)

lynn, we don't type the words in the grid (on purpose anyway) we generally give clues!
manty?
lol
ok
hi alison, you are in the same frame of mind as me, I only ever aim to get half the words anyway, never got fireworks yet..
that is great, hurshy. I was just about to ask about your emotional state when I saw your post. Are you talking with people?
i'm leaving because although my husband is one of the most wonderful guys in the world, i've never been in love with him and don't find him attractive. but i hate that i'm hurting him and wonder if i should just be happy with what i have and be resigned to not much of a sex life...
ok, sorry if that was too much information...
No, not too much. I am so sorry for both of you, though
why did u marry some1 u dont love? lol
i had made the decision and felt good about it and then as soon as i signed my lease i had a panic attack and have been wavering ever since.
Hurshy - how long did you stay together
i do love him in a lot of other ways... and i married him... because i was really scared of facing the world alone
I was told I was too much work. A slob, and that there were problems for years--that I did not know about. So, I can see that he would be hurt, but am glad you are not already involved with a mutual friend as was my ex
So sorry hurshy. I've been there, too.
Does your husband want a chance to work it out?
oh that really sucks i glad im not married yet though i should b after 9 years
we've been married 7 years
we're calling this a temporary separation, so...
Been there hurshy and the answer is NO. Living with some one you don't love accomplishes nothing and may hurt the other person more to live a "lie"
Well, I'll have to try the 10 little boogers I have remaining later today. You all take care and hurshy I'll be sending up good thoughts for you.
we've done nearly 41 and do admire you
wow thats a long time without love in the picture . do u have kids?
no kids, thankfully.
gl
Yes three in their 30s and 5 amazing grandchildren
I felt bad afterward but I freed him, too, and he remarried and has 2 wonderful kids now. That wouldn't have happened with us.
sorry that question wasn't for me
you know, the separation might be just what you need...
Mummy..the only way i get fireworks is but using lickity and clues and occcasionally alittle luck. But sometimes just getting the clues is a milestone!

charm, you have a right to be proud of the little dude
melon, lol, yes of all words
Well. The little dude also just turned over his chair and is sitting on the back of it. so we might just dial back that pride a bit....
weegee - both and i made aprico - i go with yeast dough - trouble is - kids & i eat half of them! i made them thurs nite - "OK, just one while they're warm" - "OK, just one for breakfast - and one packed for lunch" - that's how it goes :)

Temple, I am doing okay...but I am going to need some surgery (some?) sometime in May to put me back together again....like Humpty Dumpty
Uh oh, Annie.
AM***** International is an org that watches prisoners in Guantanomo, for example
i lack the discipliine for that temple, so I go to classes at the y.
oh annie..sorry to hear that
Danke, Inge. I tried the first 6 ltrs before, but forgot the last vowel was there
hope all goes well annie
i'll come hold your hand annie..;-)
I was amazed that such a puny grid could produce that word
temple, thanks! and thanks, dorens...I am sure it will all be fine once it is all over
nutty will do anything to get a trip to the east coast!!
oh heck, i'm nearly there anyway! kind of
nutsy, thanks....will provide chocolate and caffeine to all

Nothing scares me...yes, it does, I am lying, bring a party hat for me
Yes, inge.
i can't think of anything LESS scary...well, except we'd probably get lost, go to the wrong room, and scare the bedevil out of some poor sick patient
Hello SMD.
Inge, Yes
Yes, Inge, even if they are not not logged off
Hi SMD
ok thank you. Just wondering
hi smd
hi smd
P's are done--I had trouble with one last pe5, with sometimes vowel tagged on
we know, we alwasy knnow....where's smd? *prepares to pounce*
hi smd
SMD, your icon is having a nervous breakdown!!!
Hi everyone and thx for the greetings..short grid...Are there any surprises??
I need an s5... and I have monkeyed every possible combination... I have the French 7s, put to shame, and what Viv Nicholson did...
Oh, yes, SMD--one very hyper chicken!
smd, great icon, i just updated for the theme myself, have a looksee
HI all ma6/21 please
who's viv nicholson and what did she do?
Hi all - stuck on the ma 4,5 right before the Hellman's salad dressing - could anyone end my misery?!
Have you the Scottish version of what you build with? st5/10?
st5=cigar
hi peri not there yet
hi peri not there yet
she won a lot of money on the lottery, and her motto was "Sp5, Sp5, Sp5!"...
Oh, what is that one, Hazel?
hi haz
ma 4 is a rubberized cover on the floor, for example
Yes Inge....so am I!!
st5/10 - a rearrangement of the plural word to go with tidy?
Hello TO!
Fireworks
I did not know the holiday either Nut....so I thot anything nervous of dancing would work...what are you eating!!?????

bravo doxy
sh5/12 - sh plus reworking of number after nine?

I am missing one S word too
sy 5 is that nymph in the air, again
just checked out theme and refreshed. these are tasty. I'm not sure about what purim is about, but i know we eat hamantaschen
yay doxy
ma6 - m _ a5
inge - thanks so much - i was thinking that was a double t ending but oops that's my son's name, lol!
*weeps gently...* ... I have all those...
scrabbler, is it the plural of the past tense of smelling bad?
purim is about queen esther and haman...that's all i can remember right now
doxy don't get your clue
ma 6: like the praying ma**** bug, change second vowel
I have that, Annie, TY anyway
that was m+a5
thanks doxy
On Purim you read the megillah which is the story of Queen Esther
"mantoy " is not a word. perhaps that's because it is "boytoy"
megillah gorilla?
megillah... i alwasy thought that sounded like an irish word!
down to 6 and now is when I have 4's and 5's, grrrrrr
Haha, bonkler--where have you been?

inge - I need an s5/12 - I have se5/12, sh5/12 and sp5/12...
bye, doxy
Bye doxy!
My cat's harrassing me for food AGAIN. She's on a diet and I'm finding it harder than HER. New icon is to stiffen my resolve. Before the SSPCA is called in..THIS IS NOT MY CAT, just a warning of how things could go if I weaken!!!
There are two se5/12 - one ends in a vowel.
se5,12==plural of a divider, like in one's nose
OMG liz, where did you get that icon. that cat is HUGE
Ty for the sh5 mention, sherb--I finished the S's now
that's it!!! ...thanks Haz :)

st6/30 please
You're welcome!
OMG, lizmac!! What a cat!!
...and thanks Scrabs and inge :)
Google, it's one BIG moggy isn't it!
Add S to st5 (even though your sense says not to)

i'd keep my fingers away from liz' cat

TY Hazel--I thought I typed that in before--must have been yesterday
nut they are hamentaschen
When that cat sits around the house....he really sits AROUND the house!!!!!
Maybe the cat is why my chicken is so nervous!!
Where did hurshy go?
they are little fruit tarts, or poppyseed (what is the significance of poppyseed.. i don't remember,, but somehow it is connected to purim)
Sometimes days and words merge together....
Put it this way, I'm not sure I would survive him jumping on my lap!!
leaving for a while, bbl
i was at the shelter a few eeks ago they had TWO monsters..not quite that big but close
Tschuss, Inge
i do know that they are triangular, to signify the tricornered hat that simon wore
Bye inge.
Whatever the tarts are I bet they are really good.
i am stuck at 24
any ts or kn words?
Go TO!
Nope
Negative to both.
no Owl...
i'm stuck at 17... and am about to give up doing it listless

l word begins like brand of disinfectant...
2 M's and 4 T's to go
h+ "phone home alien" + adult boy
he6/24 - sounds like a male hired to do bodily damage, but change the first vowel. The he7 is the plural.
How was dinner, mysticfreak?

that clue was for annother
No, mystic, but I have heard great things
pe6/27 - starts with a writing instrument, ends in a chemical type ending.
he 6,7 think about someone who wants someone killed. he hires a hi**** changed that hi to he, then plural
hey there adhd
thanks haz and adhd got the he's now
hi WordLover

i'm thinking if that he6 is a word, why not pe****?
Hi babblers what a nice little board we have today. its refreshing

hey adhd you hold that friendly grid thought
i kinda like the longer challenging ones
Dorens, only one n...
amusing icon, AD...

Purim is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the deliverance from Haman's plot to annihilate all the Jews of the Persian Empire, who had survived the Babylonian captivity, after Persia had conquered Babylonia who in turn had destroyed the First Temple and dispersed the Jewish people; as recorded in the Biblical Book of Esther.

Off to walk doggies, will think on last 3
bye inge enjoy your walk:)
has anyone ever called you perverse, nut?
you can't imagine how many times ping
bye inge
Shut Up Nut!!! You have got to be kidding!!
start by placing the four-point letters on the double score tiles, and look for words that read forwards and backwards - mood/doom, lees/seel etc... and use the wild card tiles strategically...
I am back. Hello Babblers. And Nutty if you pormise to give us all the words after you have found them we shall request a 500 word gird from Dr. God
Hello Inge
welcome back inge
oh, thanks sherb, i hadn't thought of it that way - will try again
I would love a 500 word grid one Sunday... the rest of the week I don't have time...
hi, hi, hi, eerybody
no kidding smd, i just wanna see it, oh and since i rarely bother finishing it won't bother me much
But all of us will come to Pa to shoot you

by smd sweetie sugar babeeeeee
bye smd
bye SMDNJV:)
I will have my Pa relatives infiltrate your compound and disable your arsenal
bye SMD :)
yeah...well, i'll i rig the compound with cow poo!
that would deter me, no doubt
Oh please, no cow poo. That is so slippery and st****
so, you two would go to war over a 500-word grid...
i wouldn't sherb...i would be on the defensive only
what do you suggest we do, sherb?
a girls got to protect her cow poo arsenal compood
good question inge... got me stumped... ...how about chocolate cake?
800 words would be even better!
now you're being riddickerless...
if women ruled the world, chocolate would be appropriate for peace-making, i suspect
lol nutty
someone kicked me off the chat!!!!
cud happen
not i, inge
you were being trollishly violent inge
an 800 word grid would be the first day ever, when no one will play.
i'd totally play
except those who don't care whether they finish or not...
you would e very lonely
naw, you guys would still come here and hang
there are about 50 people who play every single day... see the rankings page...
you nutty would have to clue everyone and we would sit around and snicker
sherb, how can you tell that - the column on the right?
when's the last time i clued??
You ae not performing your share of community service then
must have words to clue
yep, the people with 1,030 have scored full marks in the last 30 games...
i know you've clued for me before, nutser - admit, admit!
i see
never!!! ha ha ha ha
hey alll - happy sunday!
yo kat!
whereas nut scores 637, lending some credence to her story...
the only time I missed during the last three months or so, was when my computer would no longer load the last words of a 400word grid. I was demoted two points. Now I have done 312 in a row again, but have not gotten back to the 1030 level.
i have five left...can anyone help me with he 6,24 or 7,3; pe6,27 or 7, 40, or the sy5?
sherb, i was once a 1029
that is 32 days in a row, but no advance in the rankings.
me too... but I went cold turkey...
sy 5: sy + ra*** Krampden from the Honeymooners
yes...i decided finishing wasn't worth the stress
what does the left column mean?
inge - you're at 1,028... two more days to go...
i think it represents your long term career ping
pe 6: four letters from the fivesided building + sometime vowel + stick letter, the 7 is plural
oooo - thanks Inge!
left column is average score for all the games you've ever played, plus one point for each game...
and again, Inge!
sherb, are you a genious?
off to hunt for food
*the potato chip bag shakes with fear*
sherb, I have been at 1028 since the end of January--for not finishing one game. I am going to see when that big game was. BRB

is there an he7 today?
yes Ping... pl of he6...
no I take calls for taxis so not quite so glamourous
ty sherb
can i have hints for the he6?
Hey Jean...you could have pretended!
sherb, so if the grid is big and i know i can't finish it, then in terms of the rankings, would it be better to just skip that day?
yes Ping
doesn't matter... we'll tell everyone you work for Somerset Sound... and moonlight for ATC...
thanks inge
Hey mandy (lazaro66) I could have couldnt I, lol that sounds a good idea sherb lol
Ping - yes, that's what I do... or you could open up a separate free account and play the longer grids on that...
kat, i don't have it yet, sorry
thanks, sherb
Ping, some babblers keep a seocnd account in order not to mess up their standing with long grids. Babbler is one.
oh, i remember now that in her bio she gives her "other" name - didn't understand why
I keep meaning to do that... expect to see me appear as super_sherb shortly...
kat , he 6: the person shooting rivals with the mafia is called a he****, change the e to next vowel
to the rescue!
any help with the te5/10 not the one which refers to exams please

the sy took me a minute feather - all consonants after the y
ist sa - a ship takes on water

Are you missing the trolls? You like them, don't you?
not much, i like them when i'm in a bad mood
I'm just reading through the chat log - it's a short puzzle, people seem to be finishing quickly and leaving.
Heh, as well-developed as this site is, I keep being surprised when accidental leading spaces aren't ignored (e.g., if I type ' word' instead of 'word,' it's rejected).
was like a party earlier
Hello Takuma.
mmmmm...i love a frozen ho ho
oops, hi!
I can take some parties, others leave me wanting to flee....
I always forget to say 'hi' before launching into chat
thanks haz
i think we're all like that haz
That's okay, Takuma.
takuma, if we expected that from everyone, we'd always be feeling snubbed
heh, haz, you just need to master the art of becoming invisible at parties
true, ev
he 6 and 7 please
I like to eavesdrop at parties (or anywhere for that matter). My dread is being cornered by a talkative person who interferes with the eavesdropping.
hence the value of not being noticed or identified as a potential conversation ;)
he6 - looks like a version of a male hired to do bodily harm to another, but change the first vowel.
second, I think
I should wear a sign round my neck 'it's okay, you don't need to talk to me, I'm listening....'
could hinder your plans haz
Tried it. It doesn't work -- people just come up to talk to you about the sign
Darn - another idea down the drain.
thanks again haz
well, I'm stymied and I have writing to do. talk to you guys later. good luck!
hi buddies
You're welcome, magzel.
Bye Takuma and hello BDG.
can anyone clue ma6,21 ?
ma6/21 - assuming you have the preceding ma5/12 - the minister's home, place a beverage sounding letter after the male.
oh, just got it,cheers HAZ
No problem.
one more st 4,4 ....i have step THNKS

I'm up so late because I began reading The Island by Victoria Hislop about 2 hours ago and got hooked. It's about the island of Spinalonga that I decribed to those of you who had my Crete Travelogue. I'm so glad I hadn't read it before I visited the island. I was free to make my own impressions.

GT - Indeed I did - every bit of it. Paul videoed it, too, but somewhat spoilt the film for sharing by beginning it saying, 'Oh! It's going really red now!' followed by much puffing and grunting, as he leant over the tripod in the back garden. Made it sound like something else entirely was going on!!!:((
I have one MA6

I had to do most of the grid many hours ago without the chatlog as someone kept putting words in there and so I had to turn it off.
Jacula are you going to put your video on youtube? I would love to see it
Clues are fine. Giving away words on purpose is not.
this is my first puzzle since joining without licketys list, just great babble clues and me ( :
Stid, it's a to4
GT - I doubt it. LOL.

{{{Jacula}}} thanks for getting me through to the end!
2 more st words, Stid.
Well done, stid!
Yayyy for stid!! Sorry you can't stick around :-(
y/w, stid. As always. You'd do the same for me, I know.
Wolfie/ Glad to hear it. New photos in the e-mail soon?
Jac -- I am working on it -- lately I have even less time for the computer than ever, especially with both kids wanting to play with the keyboard now
Wolfie - I can understand that. Though we miss your presence, it's far better that you are spending time with your family.x
Wolfie - have they started typing in your words on Babble for you yet? Haz's daughter, who is 19/20, like mine typed some gobbledy-gook in on under her name a while ago. LOL.
I wish it were just that -- lately I have been working such long days that I have now energy for the computer after they go to bed
Wolfie - Are you enjoying the new(ish) job still?
Not that 'enjoying' work is always an option, I realise.
hi all!
let's just say, it is never dull, Jac
Hi Cubs!!
thankful for the short puzzle. just got home 2 hours ago, and started the grid 30 minutes ago. trying to finish and go to bed! :)
My other half has recently changed his working hours a couple of times in the last 2/3 weeks. First he'd gone from days to mid-afternoon to early mornings (which meant he was asleep most of day and bad-tempered when he awoke), then it changed to 2pm - 4am. That's not much better, to be honest.:( He had thought that me being a night-owl might make it easier. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be working that way.
Hi Cubs.
It worked in my favor today, Cubs -- I finished without having to stay up too late
Put it this way, Wolfie... when it's lunchtime to him, I'm tired.
..And whn I'm wide awake, he's sleeping.
That can definitely foster frustration at times I am sure, Jac
My sleep pattern's gone all to pot in some inane attempt of mine to match his hours.
Hi everyone, came back to get my last *one* before turning in
I think I will go back to my normal pattern of 'latest to bed, unless daughter still out and so I'm worried' by 2am.
HiK.E. What word is it that you seek?
Jac, my husband worked nights and days and all over for many years, it is hard
I need an s5
K.E. sy5/18 by any chance?
no, got those this morning
KE - Not experienced this night working thing often with other half. Don't think I like it.
not those, that one.
Oh, I guess I'm just experiencing the other sid of things fro his point of view. When he's on days and has to be up by about 3.30/4.30am, he's in bed by 10pm. I don't go upi until 12.30 at earliest.
Justice, I guess! LOL.
my husbands job was such that he got called frequently at night even when he was working day. Turned out to be great preparation for taking care of a newborn when that happened
K.E. - I can see how it would.
Can you say what his job was?
can anyone help with the ma 6? i can't see it.
Mine's a lorry driver but is now mostly based in the Transport Office.
Jacula, sy 5/18 - sy + ra*** kramden
Cubs - ma6 = ma* (not female) + anagram of 'set'.
ty!
He worked in computer operations; they have to do all the processing at night.
mysticfreak - thanks for the clue, but I was giving a clue, not asking for one. Thanks anyway.
Ah, K.E. like my son then.
whoops, my bad... 32 still left..
We all do such different hours in this house that there are always curtains closed at some point. Sometimes, especially when the carpets need vacuuming, I long for the old days when it was 7am - midnight.
That sounded ever so 'housewifey', didn't it? LOL.
I gave up all of that housewife malarkey sometime after the 3rd of 4 house floods. LOL.
Fireworks for me!
Well done, K.E!
Do you need clues, mysticfreak?
Wolfie - are you still working on the grid?
nope, I finished same time as stid-- I am kinda lurking and playing a game of Lit
I used to work with someone who was also a firefighter. Hers was the schedule from hell - shifts rotated by eight hours every time.
17 to go. i think i can make it!
what is Lit, GW?
Literati, K.E -- over in Yahoo Games -- it is an excellent online scrabble variant
I know you can, Cubs -- we are all here for you!
Jacula, why not? =p
sy?
sy is a fairy
a fairy???
Why not what, cubs?
i don't know my fairies.
GW if Cubs dint get that, you could even say "Sy + ra*** kramden"
i have 2 seven letter words am and he. which is the one im missing...
mystic - Hope that clue of yours works, 'cos I' out of ideas here.
he7/36 = plural of the he6 that sounds like the hireed assassin but has 2nd vowel, not first in first place.
*hired assassin.
Other 7 = pe7/40 (plural of the chemical pe6.27).
thanks jacula, but he and am is already done.. what's the third one?
Just told you mf. Look below.

pe6 = pe4/5 (held-in emotions, maybe?) + sometimes vowel plus upright stick leter of alphabet.
last st5 is another name for a cigar
Or a boot, Wolfie.
thanks Grey!
yw
I have never heard that reference, Jac
anyone have my H's? I'll clue for a minute but then I have to go help Smeltzie with the baby...
Jacula, it'll take some time for my 15 year old brain to crack this one out... wait...
hi everyone
he6 & 7 are one of Bable's specail male jobs. If you were in the Mafia you might hire a hi*****. Change 1st vowel to 2nd vowl in vowel list and then plural it.
he6 -- a term for a chief -- another name for an assassin for the mob is to be a hi**** -- change the I to E Then plural for 7
thanks Jac & Grey! Fireworks! :)
anyone need a clue before I go?
stogy
Cubs - not me! Get back to your family.
