Any theme for icons today?
hi liz!
I have a paper in the Journal of fo5/18 Research :)
Hi all.
Good morning/evening all.
good morning all
wow, a whole journal of it, cool! :-)
hi buttonman!
hi haz!
Hi Fran, hi Hax
actually, it does sound interesting, especially the Globigerina ooze at the bottom of the sea part
hi haz!
A Globigerina is a rather interesting beastie indeed, but I'm not getting an fo5/18 from protozoan...
Hello Button & Haz
It looks as though half the grid letters are on holiday! Greetings all!
Hi, LYNXXX
douglas, it's a shortened form of the type of protozoan that it is.
Hello Haz! Even a t gets overworked from time to time...
it is actually, Fran, they are interesting little beasties, and more important to the world than most people will ever know!
i found it about half way down the google search page
Yes, t gets terribly tired.
Morning, Doug
fo5/18 fo+male sheep
one of those mysteries of the deep, eh ata?
I nearly did my PhD on them too, but got seduced over to fish LOL
no S either, a very unusual grid, who knew there were so many F and C words
the University of Guam has a great Marine Biology department, are you familiar with it?
sorry, that question was for Ata
Wikipedia said the bottom of the ocean is covered with globigerina ooze...
Fran, if you worked where I do, you'd realise there are endless variations on F and C words!! lol.
Hello Buttonman
lol liz!
ll liz..
yes! that would be an amazing place to study!
Globigerina is awfully fun to say...
apparently we had students from all over the world. If you dive, it's paradise, warm water all year round
isn't it doug?
there's also Globigerinoides. just for a change!
does anyone hace the ac 7?
not me rolin
Not me...
I have 3 7's so far...

thanks bobsta!
ac7 - a, plus an auto with a robot ending
an7 has the same last letters
Great clue Bobsta!
can't reaaly take the credit, someone clued it earlier and thats how i got them
Haz? may I ask you a vet question?
I'm at halfway, now I can quit for a while...thanks all...
Yes, on you go.
later doug!
till later Douglas
ty! darling hobbit ... she's an unhappy pup. she got a stick or something stabbed into her paw at the weekend, and she's really limping, as in can hardly put her foot to the floor. there's a hole in her pad about 1/2 cm across. but she's still bouncy. should I just antiseptic it etc until its better? And just take her to the vet if it gets infected / hot / nasty?
if it was me i would prbably take her to the vet - there may be some small bits still inside
bye doug
poor puppy!
I take it you have looked to see if there is the remains of the stick in the paw? Keep bathing it with antiseptic solution but if it does become hot and she gets more unhappy I would take her to the vet.
anyone have the aa 6
Buttonman - it's a vocal expression of disgust.
I know! poor darling. yes, I've looked and can't see anything. its quite a neat puncture hole actually! thank you, I'll keep an eye on her. no walk for the brat today! thank goodness for spray on savlon LOL
thanks haz!
hi haz - do you have the ma 5 after the female horse?
Good morning Kazzer - not yet.
morning, Kazzer
thanks anyway - its not too bad today - I started early but stopped to do some housework
Haz, never heard of the aa 6
hi buttonman
Buttonman -aa, then a double helping of a consonant, finishing with the two letters that begins the Indian clarified butter or which ends high.
oh that is SILLY!
isn't it, it makes you want to say it out loud
TY Haz - nice clue - and of course we all know it now
We all say it often enough when the letters won't work!
thanks for the clarified butter too, missed that one
You're welcome.
time for bed, 51 left for tomorrow.
good night/day everyone!
Sleep well, FranMag.
goodnight Fran
bye fran
If you're allowed the aa word, rejoice, it opens up a whole new vocabulary. eeeek, yuch, owww, etc.!!
anyone can help me with or6,21?
or plus the beginnings of the downy duck
ty haz - had the or but not the duck one
and also couldnt think of a clue for the or
And the duck is there in all its downiness...
this is esoteric, haz1558, will try to figure out...thanks mucho!
ei5/12 - the duck
haha thad at odeon towers (?) i filled up the or6/21 :)

Good morning sugar!
hi haz
Hi Sugar
ma/8 doesn't go with the jam tarts I'm wolfing down!
good morning! Warf is not a word?!?!?!?!
hey lynxxx
morning phan
What do you want warf to mean?
isn't a warf like a dock or something>
It's wharf, though.
only with an h phan
Oh, I see.
It's every bit as good as aa6/27, Phan.
that's true, liz!
how about a clue for that AA then?
aa, a double helping of a consonant, the last two letters begin Indian clarified butter - the whole a vocal expression of impatience/disgust
That is exactly how I feel!
The noise you make when you enter a word in the chat log!!
Unless you're me, then it's sh**!!
With that uplifting note, I must take a break! I'll be back later. I'm comforted that there are no cissies today, this is a ma7/32 grid. There's even a he4/5....
later haz
bye haz - have a good morning
bye haz! thanks for the help with hobbit!
bye haz
can I get a clue for the ma 7/32, please?
ma7/32 - more male

okay, 41 left, time to hit the list........back shortly
Hello all, back again - good morning to all who arrived while I was away.
Hi hazel--I'm awake, well, technically, although my brain has not reached full functioning yet (Does it ever?)
Oh, Ithink it wakens up eventually, Scrabbler!
I am not a morning person, but I do my best
Good morning everyone
Good morning Eva.
Hi Eva. I thought of you on Saturday when I sunk in the snow up to my thighs, but I didn't lose my boots. It was hard to extricate myself
have you had any more roof avalanches Scrabbler?
Yes, more snow has come down, but not like the enormous one. We had a snow day here yest--well, the schools were closed, but I had to work.
Driving back from town yesterday the winds created white out conditions. I had to just stop in the middle of the road, because I couldn't tell where the road was, and just hope, since I was on a back road, that no one would run into me. Right now it is -8 degrees, and it was supposed to only be one day, but overnight the changed it to 3 days.
hi eva - harrowing.
hi 6a. Think I'll saty home today.
There were whiteouts when I drove home last night--scary! We are at 6 degrees now.
Morning - Eva, we had a taste of that here too yesterday - same storm. This morning right now it's 13 below zero with wind chill. The wind is quite strong. Without wind chill it's 2 degrees.
Love your location ch!
Where are you, ch?
check her icon scrabbler
North central Massachusetts about 11 miles from New Hampshire border
can someone give me the first two letter for the 8's?
gr5!
Suddenly Scotland doesn't seem so bad. It's a beautiful day here. My icon is a garden nearby (admittedly in summer!)
ra8/50 and ma8/50
Li6,21 plz
I read the icon--I live there too, but I wondered the specifics
and those who do it 6a!
thanks haz
Eva, it's supposed to be 15-20 below up north in Vermont tonight, 10-15 below here in Rutland.

I know Gail-and with the wind chill somewhere around -30. I'm tryng to figure out how to take a walk without losing vital things like a nose, or a pulse.
We're expecting 20 below wind chill by this afternoon. There is an advisory in effect until 6 pm tonight
lizmac--do you have palm trees in Scotland??
We even have palm trees in Ireland!
Yikes, you guys will be way colder in New England.
Hi ME, phantom sister online. Not in the habit of talking to myself...often!
Take a walk in the house, Eva.

:(:(:(:(
So are lots of jobs you don't have yet!
now i'm going to end up in some stiff uptight corporate office, aren't i... ick
lori's right
You're talented, and perservere. The right job for you is just around the corner.
i just hope i can find something that i really feel comfortable with.
Oh Hursh... I'm sorry to hear about the job
No offense, but that's the wrong attitude Hursh
***ducks the object about to be hurled at her***
my dad worked in jobs he hated for most of his life, it's only in the last year and a half that he finally found something he likes, so it's hard for me to feel optimistic about work.
Hurshy I have to agree with Lori.
We've seen your abilities here, with only the written word. I know you will find what you seek.
If you keep looking for your dream job you'll find it
you are not your dad ...
and if you think you're only going to have jobs you don't like guess what. You won't be disapointed
Hi everyone,
Absolutely. You are Hurshy, not Hurshy's Dad.
hey Peri
hurshy, I see that you did not get the job you wanted, what happened.
wb Peri
I understand, Hurshy. I've felt the same way. But, you have to do what you have to do and do what you love when you can. I hate to say it, but make the most of it.
aww, that sucks hurshy. you must be disappointed.
I took my hubby's hobby & made it into our living 13 years ago
we struggled at first but am doing great now. supports us, our employees
that is great prism. hopefully can do that with Reiki and/or polymer clay
Think of the closing door opening window platitude. I didn't get the position of my dreams after college and took a stop-gap job... which ended up being the career love of my life.
all that to say, sorry Hurshy, but you're strong, you'll get through.
un 6 plz
A Day Spa opened up about 10 miles from me. They are offering all kinds of neat, expensive treatments. I called them and they are looking for Reiki practitioners. I just emailed them my resume.

no!! lol almost the opposite. rolfing's painful :P
like massage?
sort of a painful type of massage
hmmm... interesting
nothing against rolfing
might have to look it up
reiki isn't hands on
where are you redshoes
I'm soooo stressed... others have started suggesting I go for massages
lots of info on the Web re Reiki
I'm in Tennessee
Reiki can be hands on or hands off. I prefer doing and receiving Reiki hands on
Reiki is very effective for stress , redshoes
I've only have one professional massage ever and the lady took almost the entire time on my back for what was supposed to be a full body massage
wow, only ever heard of it / had it done hands off
she said I should go at least once a week... I thought, "I bet you think that!" and held my checkbook close. ;^)
Atalante, it is much nice hands on, you get to feel the heat from the practitioners hands much more and most people liked to be touched
massage hands off? curiouser and curiouser... runs off to search the internets for more info.
UH OH...BJ'S STATS ARE NOT UP YET
redshoes, may be that was where most of your stress was
hey all, any help on the last ra 5/12?
hmmmm i think the reason i like it is because its hands-off. you can feel so much anyway
oh it was... she said she didn't even get all of it! I tend to carry my stress in my back and shoulders. ugh.
not doing well with the grid, may have to go to a list with 100left to find

There is a place called 'Lost' in Aberdeenshire, a county of Scotland in UK. Here's the Wiki ref. to it:
got the wa 6/30,...thanks IBDA
Scottish Gaelic); population: less than two dozen; grid reference NJ349132 or on 1869 map) is a tiny hamlet in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It lies 40 miles (65 kilometres) west of Aberdeen in the Cairngorm mountains. The hamlet is situated near the village of Bellabeg where the Water of Nochty feeds into the River Don. The name comes from the Gaelic word for inn (taigh òsda); today the hamlet has a few houses, a war memorial and a farm. Following publicity in tourist guidebooks, due to its unusual name, Lost has suffered from regular theft of street signs bearing its name (see street sign theft). Each street sign costs approximately £100 (€150 or US$180) to replace. As a result, Aberdeenshire Council tried to change its name to Lost Farm; however, in the face of strong local opposition, the hamlet's traditional name was soon reinstated.

aha! tenterhooks are for stretching woolen cloth while it dries! (I love the internet)
it is much improved Jill, thanks! I almost look normal now...
It comes from one of the processes of making woollen cloth. After it had been woven, the cloth still contained oil from the fleece, mixed with dirt. It was cleaned in a fulling mill, but then it had to be dried carefully or it would shrink and crease. So the lengths of wet cloth were stretched on wooden frames, and left out in the open for some time. This allowed them to dry and straightened their weave. These frames were the tenters, and the tenter hooks were the metal hooks used to fix the cloth to the frame. At one time, it would have been common in manufacturing areas to see fields full of these frames (older English maps sometimes marked an area as a tenter-field). So it was not a huge leap of the imagination to think of somebody on tenterhooks as being in an state of anxious suspense, stretched like the cloth on the tenter. The tenters have gone, but the meaning has survived. Tenter comes from the Latin tendere, to stretch, via a French intermediate. The word has been in the language since the fourteenth century, and on tenters soon after became a phrase meaning painful anxiety. The exact phrase on tenterhooks seems first to have been used by Tobias Smollett in Roderick Random in 1748.
LOL stid!
Why stid, What happened to your face!?

Seeing the comments about people enjoying reality TV, I just had to sign in again. I wanted to say that taking advantage (and making a profit from) those who are too stupid (in your opinion) to know better) is NOT okay. Reality TV producers should be shot at birth. Those programmes, on the whole (not all) should be strangled at birth and never see the light of day. Therein, I think, lies the difference between The United Kingdom & Northern Ireland.
*soon to be finishers
mmm, kristin -- pineapple AND a game with hubby --mmmm ;)
Jill -- how many RA words are there total please?
hear hear jac
ro6/21 please

What worries me, Stid, is that the so-called leaders of our respective countries, contact each other at God knows what time of the day or night for each other. And then they decide on war policies. That, to me. is very scarey.
now for the M words -- do you have the beautiful noisy bird ma5/22?
oh Jacula, I cannot afford to get into politics tonight... but I agree with you in many ways. my dear Tom is waiting for me to finish so we can have our "movie date" night...
Is your one measly ma4 a word to do with yarn?
add y and you have a gal's name?

stid - I never get into discussing politics or religion with net friends, unless pushed. I live with 2 students of art, history and politics, spawned by parents who once discused the same, and still do. That's enough reality for me every day. I don't need more! I log onto the internet for entertainment.

I'll try!
Towards the end of the golf course, Dave hit his ball into the woods and found it in a patch of pretty yellow buttercups. Trying to get his ball back in play, he ended up thrashing just about every buttercup in the patch. All of a sudden, in a flash and puff of smoke, a little old woman appeared. She said, "I'm Mother Nature. Do you know how long it took me to make those buttercups? Just for doing what you have done, you won't have any butter for your popcorn for the rest of your life. Better still, you won't have any butter for your toast for the rest of your life. As a matter of fact, you'll never have any butter for anything the rest of your life!" Then POOF!.....she was gone ! After Dave recovered from the shock, he hollered for his friend, "Fred, where are you?" Fred yells back "I'm over here in the pussywillows." Dave shouts back, "Don't swing, Fred! For the love of God, don't swing!"

GR 7/40 and 7/36: past tense made a sound of pain, the n the one who made the sound of pain...
tx stid
next GR 7/40 is the past tense of the part of the body between the thigh and the torso
stid - however, that same plan is not working for the af5/16?
the MA 7/36 is the root from which tapioca is made + vowel (ends like the ta word I just used)
ie. the one who just heard nut's story

Hi everybody. I still have 80+ left; have all of the 7's; but I can't find an 8 at all. Any hints please?
fr5/16 -- fr + what minerals come from
ty jili
nef -- ma8 often comes with cheese
and the 3 gr 7's have to do with gr***ing and moaning, or with that part of the anatomy susceptible to prodding
ra 8 - past tense of prev ra6
or5?
firewords !
also nef, what did Yankkee Doodle call his feather ?
or5 -- Law and Or56

Jilli, I'm a nurse. I've worked CV-ICU for 35 years. This surgery now means I'll never work at the bedside again. The damaged ankle and foot will never hold up to 8 hours of standing/walking/running
7
jili - now your icon is showing up just fine - weird!
strange, helen! Did you refresh or something?
Nef -- that's a real shame. How was it injured?

I had torn a tendon and shattered a ligament. THey were repaired in june; but once I returned to work they were damaged again. This time they took out the damaged tendon and replaced it with another one from the bottom of the foot and cutt apart the heel bone and lengthend the achilles tendon to try and stabilze the ankle and foot
oi6 -- container for lubricant
ty
bummer, nef!
nef -- skiing accident?
oi6 done, thanks jili!
yw
My age and work caught up with me finally. It started hurting in the middle of an extra shift I picked up.
Fireworks! Thanks for that or5...
nef - many years ago they took out a tendon from my foot (4th r toe) to put in my r 5th finger - toe okay - finger never the same :(
good evening, everyone :)
YAY douglas!!! yw - lol
wd douglas !!
hellooo nan
uh-huh - well, gee, i guess that's what happens when you tell A NURSE to take it easy on her feet after FOOT SURGERY!
76 vs 18... Let's see...
time for the new icon -- something unusual from eBay!
how about the or 6?
hi nan
or + downy duck - the last letter
Helen, they took the tendon from the 2 small toes and put it over on the other side of the ankle to replace the post-tibial tendon. I guess we no longer have to hang onto tree limbs by curling our toes these days; but the damaged tendon helps you stand up straight or regain your balance
hi helen
Congrats, Douglas! Hi Nan!
Helen, I went through a long rehab the first time around last summer and fall; I WAS following orders! :)
yes nef - i gave you a little grief there cause i used to work in an orthopaedic shoe store & these women would come in & complain about their "botched" bunion surgeries - but turns out they started walking around right away - "well, how can they expect me to stay off my feet? i have 3 kids?" uh, well, lady, i guess this is why - so you don't have to wear these stoopid looking shoes for ETERNITY!!! idiots!
or6 -- or + ei4/5
LOL! I've been on crutches for almost 2 months this time; the first time It was 1 month
I should get the hang of this soon!
hi, how many words today? can I finish in 13 minutes?
yes nef - tendon & ligaments are tricky things - same thing for me, completely compliant & religious about rehab & still didn't work out right
nan, i din't get it..
166, goofball -- you're living up to your name -- LOL!
nef - i feel for you, i thought i would have to use crutches after my hip replacement - but went straight from walker to cane in less than a week - i was sure glad - crutches are unweildly things, plus they hurt!
I can't even start rehab til the beginning of May. I'm debating whether I should try to go back to some sort of work or if I should just go ahead and retire now
jili - that's what i thought, glad you said it :)
I"m actually harpjanes alter ego, playing as gb because there's no time to do the whole thing today! lol
mystic -- see mine at 11:47
hi goof!
7 f's left. ugh
Good morning all - Helenkeller - my 86yr old mum is booked for hip replacement 20 March - lot of talk about new type hip replacement - did you have new type or old type?
i got it, thanks jili...
hi ursh
75 in 9...
yw
evening all
hello prism
the flip clan gathers...
never mind, i might not complete this one today, but yes, i'll make sure that i will complete this one day!
ebay item is the theme?
wtg, mystic!!!
yes prism
we're overdue for a monster, are we not?
oh dont say that cybernan lets stick to 150-200
I thought there was a monster last weekend
fraid so, nan, on my busiest day of the week ;(
I'll go look for the mannequin I just bought on ebay.
i'm leaving, everyone... gotta have a haircut... my hair's grown to such an extent that a few of my mother colleagues have suggested they themselves chopping it off...
so long (hehe) mystic
bye mystic
m6/7 combo plz?
adios amigos!
ma6 -- amdman with diff middle vowel -- ma7 add a vowel to the end
ursh - oh, you totally have to check to see if she is an ok candidate for the minimally invasive procedure - that's what i had & i can recommend you 2 doc in the chicago area that are the tops - i did a tremendous amount of research (luckily i worked in that orthopaedic shoe store & lots of joint replacement people came in for stability shoes)
madman
thx jilli
got all the 7s at least
fireworks at the buzzer
YAY dick!!!
yay me
yay dick!
brb
ursh - there's a world of difference between the 2 surgeries - my incision < 3 inches, otherwise you're looking at anything from 10-16 inches, & they don't move aside any muscle so the recovery time almost nil - i was walking the next morning
and if the surgery is elective or due to broken bones from a fall
last word, the first fo 5/18, please
fo + male sheep
ursh - you can e-mail me if you want to talk more about this, cause i am vocal advocate for this - lotsa docs not trained in the new procedure so they dont' tell their patients about it - but most of your bigger, better hospital will have this available now
sorry -- enemy + 2 cons
Fo + anagram of hen
