well I suspect it's somewhat like babies -- they can't even begin to tell you what's really wrong. You just have to look at symptoms and maybe bloodwork and then eliminate from the most common to the least.
that, and good as cats are at hiding being sick, most exotics make them look like amateurs. you won't know a bird's got something wrong until it's on death's door.

the family had pleaded with the power company not to turn the power off but they ignored them and went and did it

Mine is especially adept at getting on countertops and the table - she ate an entire pumpkin pie at thanksgiving and was going for a second before she was busted. A couple of weekends ago she got onto the countertop and ate a pound and a half of bacon grease. This is a 20 pound dog.

I inherited her when DH and I got together. One day I opened up a granola bar and she was all over me. Could not get her to keep from jumping on me. Found out later that his kids used to feed their healthy snacks to the dog.

if your cough is from infection, not good to suppress it, more important to keep mucus moving and then to expectorate it. if cough is an annoying one from allergies, suppress it if it's driving you nuts

hetty - I was promised that ailment at 20 after I fell downstairs (at our rented house) during my honeymoon when I was about 2 weeks off being 20. We didn't have a honeymoon away, we just decorated the house we were renting. However, when I limped back into work after the week I realised it wasn't the best thing to do, even if I couldn't help doing so, after a honeymoon. The jokes about that went on for years at work!:(
So, arthritis in left hip is probably my next ailment.

MrP has probably gone now, but I just want to say that it can take up to 2 weeks for your body to recover from just a short general anaesthetic (like 20 mins or so). You will feel tired and drained for that long. Not had a longer GA, but I imagine that the recovery time would be longer, the more time you were put out for.
If you ask for clues, autumn, we will try to oblige.
I was out under a general for 2 hours....in Oct 2005. there are days when I still wonder if I am 'back to normal'

the only thing I was allowed to lift after my surgery was my 16 ounce tea cup. I wasn't allowed to leash-walk my 120 pound dog for 6 months!

And, prior to surgery, I didn't take afternoon naps...something I have been prone to do since

but I am so glad I did it. The short time of inconvenience is certainly out-weighed by quality of life
Anyway, when I burnt dinner around the 4th week - hubby said it was because I really was still in a fog.
I didn't take the offer up as it came just as my daughter was being admitted to a clinic with Aorexia Nervosa and I had her to visit, her laundry to do and carry back and forth (because the hospital laundry boiled stuff and wrecked it) plus about 18 rabbits, 6 guinea pigs, 22 mice, I gerbil and 21 hamsters to care for, clean, muck out and lug stuff about for.

But, never mind, I know how life goes.
it's really a personal choice sometimes. I weighed the options and took the permanent fix. And he had been doing dinner. That was his first day back to work. I was lucky - in 6 weeks, he worked 2 days
