That's really funny, Lynxx. And truth be known, I didnt know much about the breed before we rescued her. I've learned more since, but she doesnt seem to be indicative of the breed.
Almost all of the others I've met like her are Much smarter, for instance. She acts much more Beagle than she does herder.
She practically lives with her nose stuck to the ground. I almost never see her eyes lol

In the left eye, yes. But the half colored eye is blind in the blue part. A breeder told me that the lack of color indicates a lack of rods and cones there making them partially blind.
An Aussie Shepherd...about the same size as a border colloie but with a very pastel colored coat, beige greys & tan...usually with pale/odd colored eyes

He vaguely remembers reading about an Aust Blue Heeler being taking to the States (during the Gold Rush times?)
the breeder said that if the eye is all one color of it's own, the vision is usually fine. But the multi colored single eyes are indicative of blindness.
And for her, it's definately the case. She runs into stuff on that side all the time.

Thanks Volley! I need to hear that at the moment. Went in and was basically told there were no options. Anaemia is shocking and I can't go on this way. So, into the fray!!
I went through all sorts of female problems... numerous surgeries; lap procedures; bleeding; meds; pid; endometriosis, yada yada... so by the time they said enough, I was kinda ready
I was pretty young, had only one child, and had wanted more, so had a brief issue with that, but having no pain, no periods, etc after... I truly did feel like a brand new lady
It does all get a bit tedious, doesn't it! And I am WELL past wanting another baby, my youngest being 26 this year... can't imagine telling him he's going to have a baby brother or sister!!
only hints I have re surgery: ask for pain pump while in hospital because you can get up and walk faster; take oral meds like they tell you; have a pillow to put across tummy for coughing, and you will get through just fine!

Were you working, and how long did you take off work if so.
I was off 7 weeks, but at that time in my life worked in an office, so I did do some things at home after about 2 weeks.
My hubby was pretty protective at first though, so I could build my strength back up.
Been reasonably anaemic for the past year but has reached crisis proportions in the past couple of weeks. Had transfusion last week and prospect of another to come. Looking forward to feeling like myself again!
And my office job was about a 55 hour job, so he was pretty adamant I not go back too soon.
I have great family and friend support, too, which will make a huge difference. And, like you, my job is pretty demanding, including air or distance road travel every week, so I'm sure I will want that sort of time off.
My count was down to 8 right before my surgery... time when there was an AIDs scare with local blood supply, so they did surgery with fingers crossed that I wouldn't need blood.

You definitely won't want to rush back until doc says it is okay. I didn't let them guilt me into coming back too soon. I bet you feel soo lethargic every day; I remember how tired I was.
And thank goodness confidence abounds about transfused blood now.

The trick is that it sneaks up on you... if you went to bed healthy one night and woke up feeling like this the next morning, you would rush to the doctor. But this was so incremental, it was only when I was breathless walking up a few steps that I really thought something was wrong.
try not to be apprehensive, I truly wouldn't have mentioned it, if I hadn't done well. Within the following couple of years several other of my friends had to have surgery, too. I totally agree with that; I had no clue just how bad it had gotten.
I thought I just needed a career change, cause I was so uninspired about work! LOL!

Yep, we've tried everything. All complicated by the fact that I had a DVT last year from flying, so everything hormone based is out of the running..
I did take hormone replacement for a few years after, then after about 7 years, found I really didn't need it anymore, so I stopped taking it. I couldn't do any of that beforehand either, but I did live on anaprox for about 2 years; great med, but eventually that didn't help.
No HRT once you've had a DVT either. If I had known how much bother it was going to be, I never would have had one!
I had had several cysts removed every so many years, grew them like fingernails. DVT was caused by what?

hi Frances. They just don't know yet. They tried to get a sample of the inner joint fluids and it did not work. So now the gout specialist arranged an urgent appt with the rheumatologist. We will hear later today, I guess.

Timing always seems to be a problem with medical appointments. I hope he is home soon to put you out of your agony.

yeah, some doctors can be really arrogant jerks. But others work as hard as they can and just have emergencies in between.
He was an excellent Surgeon, and is pretty nice, but I definitely didn't like waiting that long for a 5 min looksie.

It's officially been a year now since my poor hand surgery. Things are looking better than they were then.
I give up on "flicker" I have tryed for two weeks with no luck! HUM-BUD...:-(

Sprite the hand is good. I fell on the fingers and damaged them very severly, so I am very lucky they work as well as they do. My Surgeon also did hand surgery on Venus Williams (The tennis star)...so I am very very lucky. One nice thing about slow healing is that I can not recall when my hand was more functional, I just know vaguely that it was...

AWhen cells were new there was a risk that they could interfere, but now the newer ones run on a different band strenght or something, and they don't interefere, in fact mine is in my pocket now. but...in the US people also still turn off cells...
I don't discourage it, because its hard to treat a pt when their cells keep singing the latest pop songs.

in the netherlands, it is illegal to have a handheld cell in your hands while driving. You can only talk on your cell if you use a car kit.

the good news is: it is gout. The specialist took a fluid sample, scoffed at the other doctor that tried for being at least a cm too low, and found gout crystals.

Gout is better than a Dx of Rheum Arthritis. for certain!!!
he has gotten new meds too, to take when an attack happens. Bad stuff, but effective, the specialist said.
and they keep him under supervision for a while, both the rheuma specialist and the gout specialist, to see what happens with the new meds.
and no, gout is no fun at all, carlee, I know! Extremely painful and limiting. But the prospect of my husband having rheuma was much worse.

How about b-12 shots??? My dr. just gave me one last week.
It is the "sunshine" vitamin. People living in the northern latitudes get deficient for much of the year. The easiest way to get a lot is to take Vit D3. Vit D is added milk. Or cod liver oil!
There has been much focus on vit D in the last several years, regarding depression, cancer, MS. It is a superstar vitamin!
B12 supplements are needed for people that cannot absorb it---pernicious anemia. Do you have that problem, LA?

Yes, vit D3--cholecalciferol. I buy 1000 U tabs and take 2 daily. My friend with brain cancer is getting 10, 000 U /day as vit D is an antioxidant.
No ...I do not have anemia I just have had NO energy whatsoever!!! I count the hours till I can go back to bed!!!
Then a lightbox and vit D3 are the solutions for you! You will see dramatic improvements, LA.

hi lynxxx! The rheuma specialist took a sample of the fluid in the toe joint today and he found gout crystals. He ruled out rheumatism completely, he said. It is gout, and so we fe4 it is the better of the 2 bads. We are very relieved. My husband has gotten new meds now, they should work better.

yeah, may sound weird to be happy with gout as a diagnosis, but we were really afraid it was rheumatism. My husband is an outdoor man, he loves canoeing and camping out. So that would really have been worse.
Oh good! I realise gout can be agony but at least it comes & goes. A lot of it is food related (esp seafood/crustaceans), are they looking at his diet too?

actually, they say that the food related part is highly exaggerated, lynxxx. They claim it is about 5% that is influenced by food. I am not so sure myself, and we have been looking into it for a while, trying to see which triggers there are.

Okay, I'm back for one second. It's a strip of storefronts, not a proper shopping mall, which will keep injuries down. I keep forgetting how georgous Stuart Little is. I'm not a dog person and would happily take him home
lynxx, it was really quite embarrassing, I rang the hospital at midnight and said, "I don't know what I need, I don't know what to do, I just don't want to do this anymore".... well, they sent an ambulance out straight away and had me assessed for suicide watch! Of course, that never came to be after the staff talked to me, they just understood I was emotionally and physically exhausted, but still, embarrassing

yes, gramma, but she had her reasons, all to do with worries about where she and my mother and family were born. That was in Germany (of Australian parents) and they were all British subjects at that time. But when WW1 broke out they went to the USA but were considered German because they were born there and were not welcome. US immigration at that tiem (and later too) considered that if a cat had kittens in the oven they were cookies. So she was afraid to cross the border to Canada in case of hassles in returning.

I very rarely give up my bed for anyone. I generally resort to prodding, thumping, sighing loudly and bouncing the mattress etc., in the face of snoring, bubbling, tooth grinding, talking, sighing, arm waving, elbow crashing, knee-jerking and all that other stuff that people do in their sleep.
True, though our couch is very comfortable and I find TVSN strangely hypnotic and very good for lulling me to sleep...
Ear plugs are a Godsend but don't always work as well as threats and violence.;-)
I had to tape record my hubby, to prove he snored louder than the dogs.
Well, I thought I had them both well trained, Jac. Usually their name, spoken in that particular, ear-piercing tone of voice, will do it for man or dog to shut up...

The way I see it is that you either eat meat or you don't. Yes, you can hope that the way the animal lives and ultimately dies is humane. You can even try to buy food that way if you cn afford to pay £9 for a chicken etc that should only cost £2.50. OR you can rear your own.

Another nice breakfast meal is crumpets dunked in beaten egg with some red chilli spread and a bit of salt and pepper and then chucked in a lightly oiled grill pan to cook.
