and worst of all: they are full of criticism on how we raise our kids. They claim Caya is terrified of us and doesn't dare to go home when she is late or has forgotten to tell us where she went.
and that now their daughter is also terrified of us and will never come near us again, and our daughter is no longer welcome there.
we haven't been able to finish even ONE sentence there.

Sprite...sounds like one of the "adults" has a chip or two...I've always gone with "kill them with kindness" sooner or later they'll come around, but it may be painful meanwhile....perhaps an intervenor at school can break the wall between the girls?
that is it, isn't it. And Caya is caught in the middle. She is now being punished for getting her hand between the cardoor when their daughter slammed it shut. Can't get any crazier.
I have just finished a letter to the school explaining what has happened, and that we are always available to do what we can to remedy things between the girls.

I am not, west. Nor is my hubby. We are reasonably strict, according to nowadays' standards, but our kids play with us, talk back to us, mockfight with us, cuddle and hug, and they tell us everything.
from my standpoint you both seem to have a very loving relationship with each other and your children

my youngest bro has two kids, they're in high school now, and growing up, he's bee nvery restrictive with them - even their two Alaskan Malamuts cower when he enters the room. He was Security Police in the Air Force and when he speaks everyone listens. They are the most behaved, and socially active now with level heads and goals...
we ARE strict about her letting us know where she is, and goes to play. And about coming home in time. She was in the habit of being 'lost' to us all the time, because she never remembered to call us. I have spent ugh hours looking for her everywhere, worried sick. So yes, we are very strict. Call first, let us know where you are at all times, and be home in time. She is 10.
indeed so, PAV. I have never seen 'normal' strictness hurt any child. I have seen many a child suffer from lack of rules though. Our kids feel safe.

I asked my daughter about the strictness of the call and be home in time rules. She feels fine about them. She says herself she has been terrible in forgetting, and thinks the rules fit her personality very well.

hey i remember when kieran was little i used to get looked at funny like i was an abusive parent because he was always smothered in bruises up and down his legs
and when I was a bit younger, back in the day when we could walk to and from school the center of twon, etc. , I gave my mom frights by not being where I was supposed to be. She realized she had her handsful with me when I walked my year-younger sis from the centrer of town home, when I thought she'd abandoned us to use the restroom! My mom retired from teaching last year and has said teh education in the US has gone to pot...no discipline allowed, make the parents happy, etc.
but the bruises were from just doing boy things but sometimes i paniced because of other ppls looks and comments
the lady declared us cruel and crazy for grounding Caya once for a whole week, for not letting us know where she was. It was the 4th time that week and yes, we grounded her. We had had the worried talk, the firm talk, the no TV tonight talk, the grounded for one day talk and it had not helped. Do you guys think that is cruel?

and she is right about education..our 3rd daughter has her degree in early childhood education and except for doing student teaching and occasionally substituting she wants no part of it
we live here in a blessed neighbourhood, our garden opens to the local playground, no cars, hardly any strangers. It is all very small and I can see the kids in the playground from my window.

we are, Kiwi. So our kids got to play freely, though with some supervision. But my daughter just walked into a friend's house and disappeared for hours, and never thought of calling us or telling where she went. We have had a lot of trouble with teaching her to ask first, to always let us know where she is. I still want to know. 10 is not too old for that.

when our son was 20 he flew to CA to visit his sister and missed the flight never thought to call her so she was in a panic and so were we the lady at the airport tracked him down said she had kids and knew just what I was going through
im going through that with kieran - i tell him so long as he lets me know where hes going, that he behaves, we agree on a time that he should be home by and takes his cellphone with him then hes allowed to go out weekend days with his mates

no kids...was always glad to have my nieces and nephews for visits and then send them home...just myself and the poopies...I have control issues (!!) and the poopies aren't controllable when they want to be poopies..my life's lesson in two furry balls of love! Well, yes it can be a big problem, there are some places where I just can't go, like Hawaii, due to pet quarentine laws, and other places because of housing...
But, she would have to have 1-2 years of experience first, and I would recommend at least 2-4.

due to his own anger and self hatred..he has been mentally and emotionally abusive to the kids and me... and now.. he had his 16 year old son inform me he's moving out...
