My shoulder has been giving me off and on trouble for years, but the back is "new"-- three months ago I put soap in the dishwasher and couldn't stand up. Since then we've tried antiinflammatories, tramadol, and physiotherapy. I stioll cannot walk well and it's getting worse again, fairly rapidly. The shoulder is now a constant thing and locks up every few days. The doctor just keeps saying there'd be nothing to see on an x-ray.

True, an X-ray might not show anything, but an MRI can reveal much more--let an orthopod make that decision.
