Oh, my icon?
<still getting over the shock>
...a cute little baby's pic I found online...

I found that my fingers cannot type as fast anymore, so not sure how often I can play there. I'll probably still play at spogg.com (spellbound) which is a bit slower pace
Yes, Jilli.... was looking for wooden spoon in drawer, and stupid here, forgot slicing blade was in same drawer, put hand in without looking, now I have stitches in top of finger from cutting it to bone !! **will NOT be doing THAT again in a hurry**

woohoo, kiwi -- ????
Hi everyone
hugs Huga!!!
hi hugs
well, I've had this lump in my neck for a couple of weeks, and last week I burst it and it tripled in size at least...so I went in to the doc today and he says they're more common as we age and it's harmless....and I asked, but what if it moves? as mine did...he says the old one disappeared and the new one appeared...not having had these before I didn't know what is was...I can go to a specialist or a generalist, but not anyone associated with a group practice to have it surgically removed, or I can leave it well enough alone and hope nothing else happens? some type of epi****? cysts is what I heard...little (!!) balloons of pus/oil that are normal (?) and come and go...he says usually on the torso/back...mine just next to the clavicle now and not so obvious...
hi hugs
hi
hugs!!!!!!!!!! hugs happy babbling
Hye Huga !!

I have had numerous sebaceous cysts removed (some in the surgeon's office and some as outpatient)
epithelial cyst? Anyway, cysts are usually not a worry

nan, I still say go to Consumer Reports
hi to everyone that said hi when i wasnt looking...
tomtom, how nice of you to pop up when somebody mentions gps
I can't multi task anything..
lych is definitely a word -- you can google lych gate
we were talking about macs vs microsoft... If you compose a word document on a mac, can those files be opened by a dell / gateway etc if they also have Microsoft Small Business suite
unhad is also...excpet here I guess...
so what does the dct stand for tomtom
...MACS WHOOP!
yes, dee
ty dee -- that's what I was looking for
dct is various last names
ly clue -- tried 1st person sing. conjugation, but that didn't work
how can anyone have 3 last names?
ty vm josh; really appreciated all of your patience with my questions yesterday
dunno. crazy parents
3rd person singular nan
i spose
sorta sounds like that iccky stuff you cough up when you hoick lol
the only problems i have had is when i compose something on an older version of word (usually on windows) and tried to open it on my mac
ah, got the ly7/44 -- rose campion
but that is far less of a problem now that i have iwork
ewwwwwwwwwwgross kiwi
i could have said it more grosser than that ruru but i was trying to be nice lol

i was always able to get it open to the point of understanding what it is
ty josh
but i would have to do some reformatting to get it ready to print out and give to somebody
night flosey, and congrats for Monday
not really jill -- went to lickety's list after I hit 50 words
that is acceptable, as long as you didn't lose the text; if you compose on a mac; can you email as an attached document for someone to open on a dell
thanks jilli - by 6/10ths of a pt, lol
went to lickety with 24 left, too... was a toughie
good night all -- see you tomorrow :)
well, you diddit!
definitely - you can also save as a more generic word file or excel file or whatever to be safe - it's like any other file, about the same size of a word or excel file if you had made it on a windows
I do proofing/ editting for an attorney, so documents can be pretty large at times
still struggling to get to NBT here
night Nan!
I need to check around our puny town to see if anyone has a mac... would like to look at one
nite nan
nite nan sweetest dreams
where do you live, dee?
north central Indiana
really too tired to think after a library day -- didn't get home with groceries etc until 6:30 -- didn't get them unpacked etc and supper made until about 8
between South Bend and Ft. Wayne
awww jili; bet you are tired
I'm using a Mac-mini...it's about 5x5x2 square, and quieter than a churchmouse...
i used to have a mac mini before i changed to a macbook
wow too puny for these old eyes, but cool nonetheless
for some reason I don't seem to have as much energy as I did 10 years ago
lol I don't have as much energy as I had 10 minutes ago
well, I have a 26 Dell monitor and it uses a regular keyboard and mouse, or in my case wireless...
my old eyes with new cataract-free lenses are superduper!
26 in4
and done
Great Dan!
and I sit 3 ft from the monitor and my bifocals don't always help!
woohooo wtg dan ^5
so glad your surgeries went so well jili; I remember my grandmother talking about how many times she accidentally wore black with navy before her surgeries; said it made her feel so much younger and better
wtg nDan
YAY nDan!!!
if only we found a way to harness 1/2 the energy of a 5 yr old
dee - closer to indy or to south bend?
lol too true
ahh, just read what you said
ty
we are 2.5 hours north of indy; 55 minutes s.e. of S.Bend and 45 minutes n.w. of Ft. Wayne
and thats firewords for me too sign
sigh even
wtg kiwi
wtg kiwi!!!
I'm not even halfway :(
we live in a town that is called the orthopaedic capital of the world (but it is still puny) LOL
according to the apple website, you can find places that sell mac computers in mishawaka, warsaw, rochester, plymouth

gj Kiwi!
yeah kiwi
now what the heck am i gonna do for the rest of the evening tell me that huh huh lol

but then mcleods daughters is on at 8.30 and thats a must lol
she's my husband's mom, so I buy for him; doesn't read much (but trash); doesn't do computers except for email...
I hope nobody ever gives me a fruitcake with nuts
come on!! thats even WORSE!
dee -- DVD of classic movies?
fresh fruit? indian river grapefruit & oranges a few ti'nnes
a year
I've never heard of that co Josh, but know the address... I'll have to check that out. Movies might be okay, any suggestions?
no way its a womans perogative to have an addiction to a tv programme and mine is that lol
sorry, was lurking and buried nose..fruitcake? am I the only one who LOVES them...with nuts even!
A back scratcher with a Daisy razor attached with duct tape... gets all the hair off her back!
We have this amazing Cut Glass factory here, and I was hoping to get a squared vase and have them cut an outline of a Siberian husky, but they think that may be too dificult...
LOL mrp
I'll share with you Pav
and I was so proud of myself for thinking of something nice...
you can have my share pav ill take the chocolate cake instead lol
she & ex sis-in-law love that big texas fruitcake co ship'nn'ents
I thought of getting my niece's grandmother a photo frame (my sister n law's side)
hmmm that's a good idea pav
If mother-in-law has a smooth tongue, saturate it with honey to pollinate her pallet. Don't forget to add that special touch of super glue. If her tongue is raspy, sand it down with a gift of a belt sander. The sander also works well in removing unsightly back hair.
my college friend's mom made them and I was her guinea pig...
one of those digigal ones pav?
does she have a grandkids birthstone ring/necklace/bracelet
oh, those can be expensive..this was a siple one that read "grandmother's are the best!" or some silly nonsense...great idea for an 11 yr old ,but they would wonder who actually bought it...
okay - off to bed with me. see ya tomorrow.
LOL mrp, I love your humor!!! She only wears expensive jewelry now (like loads of diamonds / gold)
night autumn
I gave my mom a gold brooch with the grandkids birthstones on it...
that sounds lovely, pav
then someone else told her how much it cost and she promptly buried it somewhere, have'nt seen it since...
nite autumn sweetest dreams
last Christmas she said she was GIVING her jewlry away to her granddaughters....
awww, hate when folks don't just wear / use their "stuff
dee, the cut glass could be etched with the Siberian Husky, but make sure it's a really good specimen of the breed.
gran on dads side had 60+ gkids, that would have been interesting
we have only 5/5 girls/boys
well, I'm at the stage of giving jewelrey away -- no occasion to use it at my age and circumstances
...not counting Princess Precious and Sir Joey...
I hope they will agree to do it jili; I kept a few Christmas cards she has sent us over the years, and I took in samples. I am just afraid they don't want to be bothered. While I was there, I did see some gorgeous etched herons on some vases. That might work, since we live close to a blue heron rookery.
jewelry (US) or jewellery (Brit) -- I'm bilingual, lol
how about a funeral plan?? that is a nice simple gift?
it was mostly earrings and necklasces anywhoooo
I just thot the other idea would show that we had really thot about the gift this year. LOL LOL mrp; GREAT idea.
lol
mrp, you're sicko, lol
LOL!!! mrp!!!not too subtle?
there were tv co'nn''nn'ercials for just that a few years back
my d-i-l gives me clothes -- tops and stuff , and I like her choices
I get frustrated with her; every time we ask her not to do something, she does exactly that
I have tried clothes before; we seem to do best with robes. One year we gave her a food saver (sucking machine) (and she loved it)
how do you buy for someone who has everything, plus
im like that with my mum i never know what to get her
it's tough, dee, I know -- I sympathise with my d-i-l
my mother used to say "All I want is a good girl"
mine used to give me money and say go buy me this and then act suprised when she opened it lol
I think we should stop exchanging gifts, but that idea gets shot down every year... wanted to give money to someone or to a charity...
lol great idea Kiwi... my daughter and I exchange emails with bunches of ideas, so there is still a bit of a surprise
my sisters and i dont buy for each other anymore - birthday or christmases - we just buy for each others kids
my cousin did her mother's bedroom over new drapes, comforter, shams etc. got her away from the house, took a picture and gave it to her on Christmas
gift card/cert to her fav restaurant?
I'm so tired I'm going to bed -- night all :)
she was very pleased when they convinced her it was her room
lol i remember when i was working on the farm i got my mum a calf for xmas one year with a voucher saying it would end up in her freezer lol
night Jilli!
and btw I LOVE fruitcake
nite nite jilli sweetest dreams dear friend

Congrats Pini!
hello all
thanks - now off to bed with this one! ;)
so, hi/bye, lynxxx!
Wha. Got it, thanks. :)
happy babbling all!
ok the cheesecake recipe is on my profile...
hi PAV
Hiya Lynxxx!
just got back myself thanks pav
I've been making cheesecakes for about 30 yrs...and this is a basic recipe I use for almost everyone..just adding in the different flavors at the end...so If you need help just ask...
I copied it and the lemon bars they both look scrumptious
that would be so nice to bring to a holiday party
we all love cheesecake
for the candied fruit do you get a mixture?
that sounds worth making paz, i wish i could figure out how to copy it to a file from your profile- is that possible in the computor world?
or shall i just write it our as my printer isnt working
I took it once to an office party..they knew I made cheesecakes, and were so looking forward to one. When I told them which I had made, they started to back away and disappear..those that stayed had a treat! I use a pound tub of mixed candied fruit...comes in larger size as well, but I get that only when I know I'm making more than a few...
we fucking own you
lol
my ginger snaps will kill a cheesecake any day
sandy I selected the recipes copied and pasted to text then saved it on my desktop
sandy...learned a new trick from our IT folks last week...press the ALT key+ Print Screen buttons to copy the open "window" (dark blue border at the top ) and save in a new Word file or text file...
I've tried using ginger snaps myself as a crust but they are overpowering...
what??!?!?1
I made a sweet potato pie tonight it was too easy
i'll try pav
crushed ginger snaps as a crust (mixed with melted butter)
much prefer a simple butter crumb crust
I generally use graham crackers but I will follow your recipe
I have some news. I got a Kitchen-Aid stand mixer for Christmas.
Wow!
west i cant see the copy and paste thingswhen im on the internet and pav i tried that but no luck nothing happened- lets face it im a computor clutz
If it falls on me it might kill me that thing is heavy
graham crackers are a staple, but I like to surprise folks...I've used choc chip, pecan shortbread, Oreos, a choc butter cookie, fudge brownies...
jord
oops
mmm all sound good
sandi could one of us email the recipe to you?
28 left for me, so I'll call it a day!! my email is peterv_3@excite.com if you need help baking a cheesecake...just use Babble-cheesecake in the subject, else my spam filter may send you to the circular file...

I'm OK, cold but that will be sorted out when I get in my car with heated seats :-)
there's fireworks already. Only the ly7 was ugly.
enjoy the hot car seats, Katie :) Have a grand day.
congrats sprite
*poofs back in really quickly* seen the Kushiel character in the grid, sprite?
Hi ata
I'm not here, I'm not, I'm walking the hound!
right ;-)
ok, well, I thought I'd just have a quick cup of tea first ... *then* I'm walking the hound
I'm over half way and have to go to work (boo hiss!!!!!) See you all later
Bye Katie!
byeee!
gorgeous pic, marmar
That's sweet of you. His name is Monty and he is a treasure.
he looks it! what a darling
We were just on our walk, he's a wet doggy now, steady rain here all night.
that's why I'm delaying taking Hobbit out ... it rained all night here too, and she'll get wet and muddy and horrid
I think we'll have to go to the beach. No mud there, anyway. Just wetness
Is it cold there too? It feels like it's freezing here (probably isn't but it's the first real cold blast we've had and I don't like it....I'm a Texas girl at heart!)
Oh, the beach! I love walking by the sea!
bloody freezing! it's been 0C -> -1C here for a few days
I have to go look up where Canterbury is...all I know about it is the "Tales".
it's right down on the bottom right tip, where France next to :)
Ah ha, just saw it, I could practically throw you a pretzel from here!
pretty much!
I can get to Calais in France quickly than I can get to London LOL
Oh my goodness, Hobbitt is GORGEOUS!
ty :):):) isn't she lovely! *proud mom*
Oh, I worked in London for a year and we went a couple times to Calais from Dunkerque I think...Hovercraft.....uhg.....seasick ness.....
oh blech! yes. we take the tunnel. much easier!
The tunnel... I never took that plunge. I know it's safe, I just could not commit to it.
I hated it the first time, I was convinced we were going to die any second
but it's so quick and easy, and you dont' even realise you're under the water. it's smooth and dark outside so you can't see the tunnel!
My sister just told me a great quote, something to the effect of: The only way to reach "courage" is through the door called "fear". I bet I could do it now (more mature now and realistic) Actually I may be coming to see a friend within the next year who just moved to the southern coast of England...waiting for her to finish renovating OLD house!
maybe we'll have the opportunity to try the tunnel.
Hi
Lady! Hello.
QUestion did anyone have a hard time last night staying on here? I couldn't get on for ages
hi herin
Waves hello
it really is best for people who don't like boats! you'd be surprised how unscary it is, I think everyone I know has had the same experience
I wasn't here then, but my computer runs slow every night....gets tired, just like me.
77 words? Yuk. G'd morning Babblers
Ata, I'm determined to try it at the next opp. Thank you for your encouragement.
I couldn't log in
hi lorikins!
Yes Lori, and coincidentally, it's 77 words that I DON'T KNOW! Ok, ok, I know 25 or them, but I'm stalled out and will be stopping soon for a nap.
ok, I really *must* walk the mutt now :)
Have a great time Ata and try to keep dry and warm!
lol Marmar,1/3 is close enough I always say. Happy Hobbiting Ata. ***Lori dives in***
back in a bit!
Thanks Lori, 1/2 the grid is normal for me and Firewords are a thing of dreams...but I'm still addicted and love it.
marmar i was like that for years and still loved it
now i can finish with the help of lickety and more words
but often dont have much time
i just had a huge adventure- took the dogs for a walk and noticed Jaffa looking at something- it was a snake and it raised up like a cobra with its mouth open- i ran and called the dogs and they came and we were all safe thank goodness
it was a tiger snake very deadly as are most of our snakes
10 left and time for the list
the dogs would be dead without a doubt if they were bitten
oh sandy... my dad's sheep dog died from a brown snake bite
and maybe even me
Wow Sandy, glad you are all OK.
horses die from snakebite too - cats have more tolerance
it was sooooo scary
Where I am from in Texas there are rattlers and copperheads but we rarely saw them. (lived in the city, I guess in the country is a different story)
most of our snakes are deadly, around here we get mostly dugites and tigers
i wish the foxes would all get bitten
tiger snakes will actually chase you in their breeding season
it's a trade off I guess, the most gorgeous landscapes on earth but deadly snakes live there too.
i suppose it
Epps Sandy
its not their fault they are just innocently living their lives
lol herin and how are you, haven't seen you lately
true
I'm bowing out from that nap now, bye all!
they are actually protected here but we kill about 5 per year
*for* that nap
I have been about./ I couldn't get in last night
yes the site was down i believe - i couldnt get access for about 24 hours
cant see many words-55 left
gawd, im hopeless
meal
each
whoops still in shock i guess sorry
also have been subjected tothe TOE all day
1 left... 1!! darn it
pres scroll back and read about my adventure
oh you know
54 for meLOL
i did sandy! i commented too!
yes my brother lost his blue heeler to a snake and friend lost her much loved stallion
a snake was in his stable
that is how it always happens... the animal is trapped and can't get away
pres, it happens in the paddocks too - with alarming speed
i make all children visitors wear jeans and boots if they come here
Sandy my friends mum was bitten by a red or black snake
our kids have to wear boots and long pants too. if not for the bindies!
how was she?
someone please spell out the ma5/14 for me??
my daughter's little dog (up in Broome) got run over and killed last week, she was devestated. and so were we, he was such a good dog
havent got it pres and cant see it
Never the same Sandy. Oh poor little puppy
got a me 5/14
you wouldn't believe it - yesterday she found two abandoned puppies and she is looking after them- that has helped
OH see puppy angels
they are very thin, riddled with ticks and worms and she has had them treated and vaccinated so that is a project to take her mind off it
What sort of puppys?
ma 5/14 - similar to a type of syrup
Sandy thanks for telling me i couldn't log on last night
we have an organisation called SAFE which looks after strays and finds home for them-doesn't euthanise- she is affiliated with them- the pups are aussie dogs- probably blue heeler- kelpie crosses and others
Lol oliver, i got it
oliver! thank you!
i have no manners, thanks ollie
No worries
im having a big glass of aussie savignon blanc
it's wine o
wine o'clock
Good breed of dog there sandy. Hi Oliver and PResie
Hi and bye - got to start work now
she is needing names for them- i suggested aussie names like bardie and bundy
Bard CReek is near Broome and is a good fishing spot providing you dont get eaten by crocs
Sandy my b.fs dog lived till she was 20 and she was a kelpie x blue
hi infern :)
ciao oliver
How is packing Mr Pres?
ne comprenday 'packing' ??
when do you move
oooooooooooo ok how are you?
week and a half sandy... don't want to even think about it!
think "exciting"
sigh i may have to sign off my net is sooo slow
think... 140 boxes of crap and furniture! I am sure I have lost 4kg just looking at what needs to be packed!
MR PRes is weeding out said crap a possiblitiy?
no infern... lickety is a horder
mmph
I cured b of that
i gotta get these kids to bed... whatever they are watching on tv is making them laugh too much. Can't have happy children in this house!!! LOL
oh now that is funny.... if there is type 1 diabetes, why isn't it a diabete?
cause type 2 would be diabetes, right??
I am going my pc is having a fit
gm all :)
Good morning chickie
This grid must have more phantom words than actual words!
wow merp. where did the kitty go ? The heart is pretty
hiya Haz.
hi chick! nice to see you and thanks! kitty is on holiday for a while until she recovers from meds
ohhh I see. I like the heart also lol
good morning everyone
Good morning Eva.
boy I'm not getting any where with this grid!
hi eva :)
There are normal words in there, believe it or not!
morning...in 6 clue pls?
Take a deep breath, kim and it's there.
Oh nice clue Haz! thanks :)
hi Kim :)
thanx haz...done and off to work
and good morning all
You're welcome - and good morning, FM. A better day with you?
Congratulations kim - enjoy work.
bye Kim
Still v cold and some snow lingering.
No RDA - is it half term?
same thing here FM-such a sudden change of seasons from the balmy fall we were having.
We've got pretty clear skies today. I'm determined to have a decent length of walk. And yes, RDA takes a week off for Halloween.
our temp. is 21 fh. and frosty,bRRRRRR
Hello Eva, it is a bit of a shock to the system
brrr indeed chickie!
I'm having that eat everything is sight and hibernate impulse
Oh me too Eva, yesterday was one of those days, today I must temper my calorie intake.
what is the temp. where you are FM ?
just above freezing chickie
I don't mind cold and dry but cold and damp is horrible.
that sounds better I would take it :)
I agree Haz :)
I'm just realising that tonight is the town's annual fireworks display for Halloween. Poor Spangle will probably spend the evening hiding under the desk.
Oh poor thing, There is a big display at the racecourse on Saturday.
I wish they could come with silencers. I like seeing them but not hearing them.
lol
Back in a mo, time for coffee
Oh poor baby,we don't have fireworks for that here we save them for our winter fest.
enjoy,FM :>)
I wonder if Ata is in mourning this morning? David Tennant announced that he is quitting Dr Who after the next series.
Time to start the day. Later.
yeah, later chickie :)
See you chickie - enjoy your day.
I know!!! I heard it on the news this morning :(
good night babbler friends.
Night MrP
night fmitch :)
Good night mrp, sleep well.
night haz :)
Oh, of course, FMitch, I forgot that you were a fan as well. Are YOU in mourning?
Im still in shock!
morning, all. nice to have no server problems today.
I can understand he might want to get out whilst on top but heck, so soon?
Will Andrew Lloyd Webber conduct a talent contest to find his successor?
Hi Angel
I hope not Haz that would be one program I would make a point of missing
Oh well, it's not going to happen for a while yet, so all the Dr Who fans have time to prepare themselves for another manifestation.
you could try not to laugh when you type that ;)
They showed a clip of Catherine Tate on the awards ceremony last night. I'd have benefitted from subtitles.
My rolling transcript in my head couldn't keep up.
I missed it, meant to watch but was sidetracked with something else
We didn't watch the whole thing, just a bit towards the end. Most of the time I was helping Raymond Blanc make the right decision as to who was going to run a restaurant with him.
for which I am sure he is eternally grateful!
He is very grateful not to be on the end of letters from me accusing him of idiocy!
I know the editors of TV programmes have a lot to do with how you perceive certain candidates, but it would have appeared very strange if he had made a different decision.
this is an interesting grid.
Which couple won?
Russell and Michelle. The losers were Alastair and James - who had made lots of mistakes along the way but kept being given another chance.
Just for future reference - don't try to serve 40 portions of lobster thermidor on a moving train.
G'd morning again Babblers!
Oh good for them, now the hard work really starts!
Good morning Lori!
Morning Lori :)
Morning glory, that's me. :D
Oh for heavens sake I have been looking for the o for ages and it is so simple
Thought I was gonna' bang through this grid, but some weird words so far, and still 18 to go.
lolol, so did I fall for that o.....
17 here
The strangest words are in the nu section.
I have a paltry 1 x nu, bet they are all nu's form that top tile
Good Morning all from the city of the World Series Champions, YAY PHILLIES
Yay peri!!!!
You got that right, FM.
i have a 5 and 3 6's from there. Missing 1 yet
Good morning peri.
I have no nu words
You'll need another nu6 then.
or J words
the one I ave is nu6/24
Ahh, prob'ally some Latin-y thing then. Thanks haz
at least 2 nu 6/27's FM
I'll wager the one you don't have runs together a sister and a male relative.
LOL that is great
Two nu6/27 and same helping of 6/24.
that was the one. n's done. Merci buckets Haz
You're welcome!
*tries to peek at Lori's screen*
help with J words please
The j words - a man's name and plural.
Peri, you'll hate 'yerself.
Im still looking for those too peri
Do I hear cries of exasperation?
FM, you'll hate yerself...........
I do, fish me
Lori and Haz sit in smug corner...
***fish cannon locked and loaded***
eeek, no please not today!!!!!!!
***smug fish cannons are the worst kind***
I have found them both but please don't fish me
*whispers to peri - do you want a hint?*
yes please
boys name
I gave a hint! Man's name.....
ca 5 clue please
I have fireworks.
One hump or two, Merk?
you did Haz? I missed that
not seeing it, is it a common name in the US
good grief ... thank you
sheesh, found the jo words
Very common man's name, peri. j, four letters long.
dromedary or bactrian animal of the desert is the ca5
You're welcome, Merk.
peri, a client of a "lady of the evening" is a jo.
help with Y words please
I have the J words
yl4/7 - anagram of a word descriptive of a certain type of tree (think Dutch and disease)
G'd morning Merk, Angel Congratulations!
Im diving in to hunt for the nu's
ty Haz
yu 4/8 is a sound of mild disgust+ a vowel, and the second y is with a different last letter.
thanks, have all the Y words now
*second yu, that is
only have one nu word nu6/24
And I'm heading off - back later!
help with the 7 please
good morning babblers :)
the 7 is an anagram of the ly5, with a to-be verb ending
***sliding chat over*** G'd morning Nono!
Bye Haz and Lori
Im going to silemt running too for a while bye all
a few strange words today but all in all not too bad. I have only 7 left to find

I'm not sure about our plans yet, but we will definitely be voting firts thing.
*first
lol mam. :) Thanks chiley, and g'd morning to ya'.
*mama even
Morning. So thrilled that I am not at work!
G'd morning red
going to change icon.
Day off Red?
nice little grid or mean little grid?
OK, thanks : )
morning. just stopping in while the kids get ready for school... mean little grid, if you ask me kje!
too late, i started in the silence....
Weird and mean. G'd morning kje, where are ya' today?
cyprus
kje that is an odd flag?
need to go check my oatmeal - brb
It's a rough life, but someone has ta' do it kje. :D
the flag is a picture of the island
starting over on the oatmeal, btw... once the current mess colls and i clean up the boil over mess... that was fast today
cools
Hello all. I will not complain about a small grid because at least Babble is working this morning. The Babble withdrawal the last 2 mornings was painful.
gm scrab
How did you get the island kje??
Maybe I wil have oatme4 too, but I do the instant stuff.
it is the cyprus flag... it is the island with laurel branches under it... can google to see larger flag if you like
kje had a private helicopter drop her off, of course.
this is McCann's irish steel cut oatmeal, takes a half hour to cook, but the only stuff i like anymore after having it.... so superior in taste to the mushy instant stuff
I got to the island by ferry from turkey
30 minutes? It must be worth it.
ITs good. at first of course I thought you had written McCain....LOL...
will likely take a ferry off the island to israel in a few days
Michnick lives in Israel. You must meet one another.
scrabbler i saw ny had a big snow??
South of me, 26 miles south, had 7 inches. I got a dusting.
ahhhh.
Phantom = shroud
me too scrab
Its in the low 40's topday here. I can not believe it.
I get so excited to find more than a 4-letter word--it makes me so proud.
31 degrees here.
55
too damn warm
Florida is not supposed to get this cold.
I would love 55, but I dont wanna go to TX.
Uh, oh, the office just paged me. I may have hospital rounds to do afterall.
yuck
actually, i like the hospital as opposed to outpatient... but just yuck getting paged
I am happy to not be at work today.
Stupid call. They wanted to let me know that our schedule shows a kid having adenoids out and ear tubes put in, in case I wanted to visit. I am not going to see a kid on the ENT service.
i will work all day on a talk i must give at a conference tomorrow... updates in IM CME course here in dallas... once again, left it to the last minute
Good luck, kje. Last week I gave a talk to parents at the school where I am the doc--preschool for kids with developmental issues. I winged it.
easier to wing it for lay people than other docs... i wouldn't even attempt that... aaaggghhh
I asked for questions and topics--that made it easier to address their concerns.
Oh, of course, kje.
I would puke +/or faint if I had to speak in front of colleagues. I generally dislike doctors.
funny thing is, i never really liked getting up in front of these crowds... but now do it a lot, funny how things work out
Good for you, to overcome your fears.
i swear i saw "indoor" and then the tiles quickly rearranged themselves
nope, still scared - LOL
halloween trick
I shocked myself by speaking in front of a packed church at Mary's funeral, but it was a Psalm, and she gave me the strength.
I'll be a mess at 10:25 tomorrow, and by to:45 will have forgotten the nerves and be swinging along... it is just the start that tends to be terrifying
Good luck, I will be thinking of you.
hi scrabs.....
thanks
Hi carlee. How are you? I haven't seen you ina while.
this grid is tough
busy busy busy...am ok...and u?
hello ... this looks nasty
maybe I should cry un5/14 and moce onto other pursuits
Less sad and dazed than last week. It helped to see the kids and Rick doing fine on Tuesday.
glad to hear....
good scrabs - how was the funeral?
phantom: shroud
Not uncal, as in uncal herniation
hi monkeypoo
LOL monkey scrabbs said that one a moment ago. GM monkey
THanks kje for the Un...
nope, tried that of course, and it will not accept it
The funeral was beautiful but tough.
i just signed on.... have just a few mins
Hi wildcat and monkey
I'm sure
hi hi
**still trying to get un5/14
kajee, what is that fried egg next to your name ?
homonym to your herniation one, scrab
Aha, my Aunt Jo gave me a clue for un5.
Fried egg, haha.
won't take uncal, but will take neck equivalent, scrab...
fried egg... lol... it is the cyprus flag... white background so blends into the surrounding
the flag for Cyprus
it does look like an egg
their state food must be fried eggs
Coffee refill anyone?
is that clue about Aunt Jo supposed to be telling me something?
yes ty scrab
yes pls....
Yes, un5 = complement to aunt.
aunt's husband is a un5
Here is the coffee.
brain is still muddled this AM, I was sick and puking all day yesterday
did you get the nu6, scrab
TY
I have 31 but am not seeing anything else.
awww poor monkey
as in meningitis causes nu6 rigidity
Is that the neck word--nope, not yet, but I am thinking.
yuck monkey... better now?
nimo
Ah, TY, kje. Geez, I put that in notes at least once daily with sick kids.
LOL scrab
yes better now, but head is a bit foggy
OK must go... bye all
hope u feel much better soon
*sending fog-be-gone to monkey*
bbs
Yuck, monkey. I puked one morning last week but it was brief. I hate nausea + vomiting.
also called coffee, btw
Haha, true, kje.
ooooh can't stomach coffe this AM, having hot tea
gotta go, *poof*
crossy hates nausea as well...urrrrp;( morning ladies:)
((Crossy))--doing OK?
had last treatment 2 days ago:)
scrab - did you get yu4... close to what we all keep saying about monkey's night?
morning crossy....
as you know scrabbs this stuff keeps working for a month or so and only then will they tell me if they killed it;/
morning carlee;)
but it was the last one :)
they have a ships bell mounted in the day surgery office where yopu sit for your treatments, and on the last treatment you get to ring the thing;) nothing feels finer;))
TY for yu4--new word for me.
very cool... hope u celebrate it soon if not already
did 2 days ago carlee;)
Yippee for crossy! Take care of your body, mind and soul in this fight.
woohoo for crossy ( borrowing his 21 guns ) 21 gun salute for crossy
k have to go for now..back in a bit once the ole stomach calms a bit;)..poof
good morning!
Hi asg + Ringo
ok..i need to get some stuff done around house before I head to work....yuckky work..bleck...yucky yucky yucky
Hi Scrabbler! I'm having SUCH a love affair with this puppy! She's so good - and so cute!
I just read that we turn back the clock this weekend. I love 25 hr days except when I am on call, and I have the weekend off, so yippee!
my no like work today....
yea for scrabs.....I think that 25 hour would suck on night shift...
hi asg... so guess tony is out, hmmm
poor tony
Are you going to continue at the job, carlee? Is this the same one--husband's family?
I love the extra hour, but my kids (and now I guess the pup) won't "get it" to sleep in!
I still "heart" Tony, kje, no worries!
yea...it is... my mother in law is making things difficult...so am looking for work elsewhere....and until then....am reaping the benefits of wine ;)
KJE - you KNOW I finished before you yesterday, right?
Isn't it wonderful to fall in love with a new pet?
what? can't hear you?
WHen is DST?? this weekend?
mi5/18 = like mi***meat pie, but make it an adjective.
ok, dumb election question: how are people voting already? not the absentee ballots, but "regular, early, voting"
I FINISHED BEFORE YOU!!!
I have regular early voted
good morning
Yes, Sunday, 2 AM, except for Hawaii, Arizona and parts of Indiana, which I don't get.
oooh, thanks Scrabs!
Hi Lexi
yea for kje
how? Can I?
hi lex!
I voted early voting already. and In flordia patients are telling me they are standing for 2-3 hours in line...i mean my patients.
LOL - actually asg, i logged on minutes after you left yesterday and saw your post... and then called you a brat
I may go vote tomorrow
and hi carlee, since you are still here!
in some states yes green...
yea..am procrastinating on the housework
I am working from 8:30-8 on election day, so will have to figure out how to get to the fire hall to vote.
different in every state, asg, google how to vote early in NJ and see what you get
If they have it in NJ, your polling places (library etc) should be open.
I'm going into the city tonight, so I'm glad this is a small grid
i am already nervous about this election and its not even my country
what is the occasion this time, asg
nah, we vote at school - I bet I can't vote early. I'm hoping to vote often though. I'm beginning to feel nervous
"the city"--translation: NYC. I learned that in college from all of the Big Apple kids.
I am worried too, carlee.
ASg here is some info on NJ early voting, apparently not everywhere. http://www.nj.com/gloucester/index.ssf ?/base/news-1/1223451613253280.xml&col l=8
yes Scrabbs! The City - there is no other! :)
I'm seeing All My Sons
but you 2 are worried on opposite sides, no?
I am feeling very concerned about this election.
ah, thanks rth!
but everyone knows that. I have watched too much television.
ummm...opposite sides?....I am anobama supporter
I even have a shirt :)
doesn't matter, carlee... as you cannot vote here - LOLOL
Go Barak. I find it fascinating how many many Obama supporters are now calling him by his first name.... it seems he;s really made us feel that close and personable to him.
NJ vote early only via absentee ballot... oh well. I love taking the kids to the voting booth anyway.
i know :(
I have a bumper sticker.
I have a lawn sign, and just made a donation (another) to the campaign last night, so I think I may get a magnet in the mail
Good Morning All
Hi Jorj.
Hi jorjah
the web sote now says tho that merchandise will not likely arrive before the election now tho
hi jorjah
I actually got my sticker where some nice citizen had left several in a newspaper stand...
site*
But I shall remove it post election no matter who wins...
looks like a tough grid today
I am up to 38.
go scrabbs!
I have 28!!!
37 left here... now just staring at the grid aimlessly
LOL - I have 18 in!
who knows maybe today will be the day I finally finish a puzzle.... one can always hope *s*
go jor go!
you can do it jorj.
i have 31
keep hope alive!
how are there possibly 5 n's in that corner? I can't get one!
I have 47...will slog on.
asg, what did you think of the infomercial... good idea, bad idea, helped, hurt?
one pertains to the neck, asg
Anyone have the J's?
um, I forgot to watch b/c it was during bedtime wind-down... and I didn't tivo. I have the news on but haven't heard about it yet. How was it?
I have those.... the j's
the j's...a man who solicits a prostitute
and plural
clue please jorj?
ahhh - TY
A guys name sing and plural
According to pundits, it was low on substance and high on feel good moments, probably helped reinforce, but ma not have won over undecideds.
phantom: jordache - lol
it was fine, asg... but wonder if people will be turned off by the money spent
TY for the J's words, J Girl.
i didnt see it either.
well, that clearly shows your age asg
i did not watch...
Was busy cutting rings off hoodlums fingers.
yes... mostly told people's stories... nicely done, but felt like something that should have come earlier in the campaign if at all
lol was a little slow but first time ever giving clues... usually I'm reading and trying to decipher everyone elses
rings off fingers?
i lead an exciting life carlee!
oooh, good job jor- thanks!
when fingers get injured and swell, we must cut off the rings.
the only striking thing was that shortly after it ended there was a campaign ad that did nothing but knock obama... now the difference between the 2 approaches was striking, so maybe that got through to people...
right..ok... now I get it...but hoodlems?
I did hear McCain saying something like "I wouldn't cut into your world series for a campaign commercial" - whatever... I just want Tuesday to come -and go!!
my new job is in Downtown Orlando..lots of people getting "jumped'
nice....
well THAT is certainly a reason to vote for mccain - LOLOL
Joe the plumber was happy
I actually like this population a bit, they are more appreciative...
( and sadly..that will likely win hm some votes )
ok, new topic: anyone have a kindle?
joe the plumber is hoping mccain can keep his ass from being fined for working without a license
kindle?
Joe the plumber knows he's a flash in the pan and he is smart to take advantage of it.
i have some kindling...
kje, when can we have coffee? in person?
what is a kindle
hi hurshy!
when are you coming to dallas?
amazon seels some sort of kindle reading thing?
hi hursh
a kindle is an abomination that causes desolation
hi hursh
ok..but WHAT is it?
hi all
it's a handheld electronic thingy that downloads books - pretty cool looking... thinking about buying it for hubby for bday, but I think *I* actually want it, not him
LOLOL - wow
oh..ok.. not sure I would like it..i like the feel of a book
there's been articles about it, "is this the end of paper books?"
Funny Asg. I think I;ve done that a few times for my Dad. I would have trouble though with the screen, would give me a headache.
I don't know if I would like reading for pleasure on a hand held
so.. husbands do that all the time, no??? come on...is that slinky lingerie really for you - LOL
you want rage, you try to take away my paper books.
hursh, I was at a parenting lecture the other night and this, um, older "gentleman" announced that the internet is "a disaster - a DISASTER I tell you"!
you should see the words I am entering... ridiculous... my 4 year old buddy might as well be typing
As a Canadian, I would just like to say, that I think Obama would be the best choice for president. He is by far the best speaker I have ever heard. His ability to talk to everyone, from the farmer, to the businessman, to the politician, to the world leader is clear. Since the US affects the entire world, I hope that he is elected as I feel much better being their neighbor with him in charge. 'Nuff said.
couldn't read it in the sun
lol asgreen
am doing the same kje
is this the end of political discussion this AM? hi, all
testify King Brutus!
well said, kingbrutus. *applause*
woohoo for brutus....
(as DC seain would say!
welcome KingBrutus - pop in anytime my friend!!
i am fine with technology in general, ASgreen, but when it comes to my books....
yea seain would say that...how funny
DC is a funny guy
where are u in canada brutus..I am in southern ont
from what I hear, it's good in the sun, not backlit, so won't hurt eyes... I dunno...
TO we are also discussing the new reading device Kindle.
ooooh - really - do they have them at circuit city or something to check out?
k. i'll be back when the conversation shifts to that only. happy babbling.
i don't think i would like it asg... there is something about holding a book in your hands... writing on it... going back to it again and again... i am too tactile for a kindle i think
AsG I am sure they researched it well and people seem to like it. I've just never been able to read articles or anything off the screen.
kje, speaking of buddies, how's your little nephew? I duped my son AGAIN as the tooth fairy. He even left "her" a note and I wrote back... he made me SWEAR I didn't write it with my left hand (which I did) - and I swore (fingers crossed though, that's ok, right?) lol
bibliophiles demand books
they soooo want to believe/disbelieve/believe - I love it
I have a question to throw out there..
my nephew is doing well... very proud of that letter, so makes me feel a little guilty
things that are so special about books are the bindings and the covers, different paper choices.
No to Kindles! YES to books!
I love books, turning pages, looking to see if I am 1/4 way or 1/2 way through. smelling the paper....making the book pliable...
BUT...for journal articales and stuff kindle would be intersting.
morning all. as another canadian, i think obama will be elected. he speaks very well and has personal charisma. i find his policies flat and uninspiring, his campaign has been run largely on charm rather than substance and he will likely prove an inoffensive but mediocre president. i fear he will be walking into a mine field of disasters left by the current administration. that said, mccain is a crazy old coot and palin is a dangerous, lunatic.
toothfairies, easter bunny santa... always told mine when they asked... when you stop believing, you stop recieving... always seemed to pacify them
mmm-smells of books
I knew this crowd would have an opinion on kindles. That seals it - I'm buying one for my non-tactile hubby who never has a second to read and carry books - perhaps this will help on the train!
asg - my 4 year old buddy asked me to spend the night after dinner friday night - LOLOL - we are going to have a party apprently
Cheers to Bonkler.
kindles would be like having only online sex.
Asg, I will be interested to hear about the Kindle...
ready for my question?
i think it is a good idea, asg... get it for him(you)... and then let us know what you think
LOLOL hurshy!
I love books and have 75 on my Amazon wish list--the list keeps growing
LOLOL hursh - exactly!
right, and Amazon is having a $50 off deal thru Saturday if you enter Oprahwinfrey as the code - lol
So many books, not enough time to read them.
ok..i cannot put it off any longer..hair is screaming to "do me" and then store opens in 1 hour...enjoy the day all
has anyone read The Shack?
lol hurshy
bye carlee!!! haGd!!!
hagd carlee
Carlee, is it only on Kindle, or on all Amazon? if all amazon I need to do xmas now.
Hi folks! Just taking an after-acupuncture, before-dog-walking break.
On my list, jorjah! I have read reviews and skimmed it at the bookstore.
Bye Carlee, enjoy your day.
Bye Carlee
I'm reading two books right now: Edgar Sawtell (is that right?) and Al Capone Does My Shirts - my son's recommendation
Hi MG--did you meet with your doc yet?
We are hosting a Halloween Party for my 13 year old's friends....the plan is to Trick or Treat in our neighborhood - come home and play glow in the dark tag and then watch a cheesy Halloweeen Movie ---here comes the question
My mom just died and my aunt and her daughter have read it and they tell me it is a must read
interesting... what made your son recommend that?
rth, I think that question is for me - I think only on the Kindle
I am reading (1) How Doctors Think (makes me even more scared about docs) and (2) The Seville Communion.
oh bummer, but thanks ASG...
Yup, Monday. He said I should try another muscle relaxant for a week and then I can see the orthopedist. Turns out he gave me Valium! Anyway, it helpe with my back not stiffening up at night, so that's something. Monday I will acll him and get my referral letter.
kje, we got it for him after going to Alcatraz - and he finally picked it up and loved it
my neighbrhood being small - safe - yet Dark - do I let them go (8th graders) without a chaperone?
I'm reading *thinks* Iron Council (China Miéville), The Secret History (Donna Tartt), a guide to Middle-Earth Science, and the new Pugin biography
Oh, jorjah--I am so sorry about your Mom. What happened?
i would, but, i'm cavalier
Ata, I have Secret History on my nightstand too - started it, but didn't get sucked in yet
scrabbler, you ARE a doctor, don't you know how they think?
your kids sound cool, asg... congratulations
lex - can one of them carry a cell phone? I would let them....
LOL hursh
keep with it. it's interesting. not *brilliant*, but worth reading
I do, and when I read the book it is a reminder that some docs don't think ENOUGH.
yeah - I could have them carry a cell phone
Lex. I am not a parent, but I think Halloween is one of those nights when lots of wierd stuff can occur...
Lex, can they be with buddies in a group?
botched surgery from small town surgeon... had a blockage and he cut her kidneys and her intestines.. she suffered for 11 months but some part of me knows she is now better
thanks kje - my daughter is a big time reader, my son is getting there!
my clue is that NO parent has called to ask what my plans are
jor - sooo sorry!
they are 13 ish??
Oh, no, jorjah! AAAAAHHHH! How terrible!!
I'd do what my mum did, let us wander round randomly and follow inthe darker shadows :P
oooh, that's weird lex. Esp for a Friday night
OH they are going together - and I can definatly tell them that they need to stay together
No Halloween here. But on Nov 5, Saint Martin's Night, they go caroling and get treats. They carry paper or veggie lanterns.
yeah - 13 + - ...8th grade - LAST year to trick or treat
Jorjagal, I am so sorry! My thoughts are with you and your family.
I will read about that, monkey
that sounds very nice MG.
MOnkey - I wanna come and do that
but you know whether or not these kids (girls?) are smart enough to handle it - or do they get riled up in a group? Then I'd lurk ...
It's lovely. They can sing or recite poetry, then they get the treat.
in literally 13 mos, we lost my brother, my father in law and my mom... gonna be tough holidays in the south .. but thank you all
Is anyone looking for or finding words any more? I am stuck.
I guess I probably would tag along. Again I am not a parent. My fear would be at that age they have opporunities to get into trouble...or to have trouble come to them...
Costumes are optional but vatching on.
Jorj, I am sorry.
I am stuck at 29 words left
well, scrabbs I now have 36...
i just finished, with list. the NU's are ridiculous.
I am also stuck but do occasionally glance at the grid to have an excuse to be here...
neighborhood is a circle and 5 of the kids live here
((jorjah))--how awful, I am so sad for you.
27 left
OK, I need to run to the supermarket. I'm making dinner for a local family that bid on two-dinners/month at a fundraising auction. Tonight's my night to cook - cool prize, no?

Yes, neat prize.
nu + mo*** is a combination of chocolate and coffee
or the cooks?
then make it a latin pl and also make it an adj.
Acupuncture was fine except the electrified needles. But it's all in the name of feeling betetr, eh?
oooh, a grid? lol - now I'm 22 in

green eggs and ham?
A puppy is a very good idea.
Maybe an older pup from the pound???
25 in, thanks to hursh
a calm one?
hopefully there are no cypriots playing and getting offended : )
Geez, I better take out my garbage and recycleables or else I will be racing when I hear the truck coming around the curve. BBS
are there any dh words, hurshy smurshy?
lol As we think alot alike then... my baby brother and I have both suggested it, my youngest daughter just rescued a beautiful dog and took it out there hoping he'd finally agree, but he said no
My sweetie is so much more fun now that he is grown up...
i have had green eggs and ham... dunno what the big deal is, just a drop of food coloring

:)
I LOVE roald - my kids have read 'em all!
Happy Thursday, Babble buds!
must be off... hagd all and haooy babbling
Had my quarterly final exam today too. We are now all pretty upset because the teacher spent the last ten weeks "preparing us for the exam" and then 2/3 of the questopns were NOT stuff covered in the lessons or literature.
Judi - run away - grid is TOUGH!!
Roald also has some interesting adult stories....the one about the woman who killed her hubby?
Bye Kje!
asg - go take your scrabble turn if haven't yet
I just used one with my low High School readers - the Magic Finger - and they liked it
tc kje
bye kje
haoooy to you too kje!
asg, i told a male friend in high school that i didn't understand the big deal about breasts - just lumps of fat - and he said "don't ruin it!"
happy - whatever!
roflmao
oh, ok - will do when I get back from grocery. gonna sneak out now while Ringo is sleeping
red refers to "lamb to the slaughter"
he writes scary stories!
day off for me!!!
LOL hursh!
he wrote the Tales of the Unexpected tales
I read it as a teen and was so surprised to find it was nothing like James and the peach!
who wrote that?
bbs .... bye for now!
I feel for you, Monkey. We've all had nightmare exams like that. Maybe if you all march to the Dean's office with flaming torches and pitchforks...
bye green
Well, the entire class has decided that if even one person fails (there are 6 of us, out of an initial class of 32-- tough course), we will be taking it to the test committee.
i liked the lamb one. i think the irony takes the edge off the sinisterness. now, "the lottery", on the other hand *shudders* - who's that one, shirley jackson?
Even the native speakers didn't know what a "handvest" is or why the UN has one, let alone whether every member has to sign it!
Yes, Hursh.
bbl
Just ten more weeks... four more reports... three more reflection reports... one more portfolio. Then I can look for work, work stays work, home stays home...
Head it off at the pass, Monkey. Go now. That's totally unfair, and potentially damaging to your GPA to be blindsided like that.
well, i'm off for now, ttfn all
Oh no hurshy! Leaving. Have a nice day.
I am back--phew, the garbage truck is just up the street. I made it in time! Yes, I remember Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery".
oh yeah, fun exams. Sigh. Most of my finals were like that. One was expected to show initiative and apply
The system is a bit different here. Anyone who doesn't pass can take it again, up to four times. GPA is a point system, and you graduate when you have all the points, no matter how long it takes...
Bye Hursh!
Bye Hurshy
Ata, that'll come into play for the half hour presentation about how I would reccommend changing the client-greeting procedure at work...
Well, that's fortunate. However, the real issue is that the instructor obviously did not cover course requirements.
30 to go and time for breakfast and the newspaper. Then I work from 11-6. Enjoy the day everyone.
but, being fair to the teacher, Judi, at degree levels, they aren't *meant* to
(sorry, I've just seen this from both sides of the ansgt!)
That's true. However, teh poor guy has taken over third-year students (my school sold the degree to another school, so my last two quarters are at the new place) and was not familiar with this style of teaching, and THOUGHT he had a copy of the exam. So the fault is higher up.
urf!
Ah. Tough situation.
I have 30 left now too! Yay!
it never helps switching schools in the middel of it *facepalm*
enjoy your day Scrabbs are the leaves still out?
I refuse, and I mean REFUSE, to have angst abnout this. Too much else going on. The first two years I stressed out of y mind, and here I am one of the last 6 left-- so obviously I can do this!
Darn it, I mean, I can. Right?
absolutely
I also have 30 left now.
Of course you can MG>
and after the exam results, get together with the others, and if ppl aren't happy, write a very detailed, very clear letter to the head of dept saying why you would like the papers remarked etc
Yes, Monkey. You can do it. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger. *she said, nibbling chocolate*
At least the new school has better administration and I feel better supported. LAst year the teachers actually told us all different stuff...
That's what I said when she electrified the needles half an hour ago, Judi...
Wish I could have chocolate. Not whining, though-- today's off-diet treat was the nice beer I just had.
MG I almost did accupunct. last year when I was having leg pains. Does it really hurt??
Thanks for the support, everyone. This has been tougher than I expected, especially being in Dutch and all.
No, not really, Red. I've had it before too. The electrification was at a very sensitive spot on me, but it still wasn't as bad as, say, stepping on a thumb tack. Mostly it just kind of prickles a bit, if that.
perhaps if I get another Injury I shall try it...hopefully I will not get one.
Try not to, Red. But I have had good results with it in the past, so that's why I picked it when I ran out of paid-for physio and saw that my insurance has to pay for 500 Euros in alternative medicine too.
Way to read the fine print, Monkey!
no kidding I want to avoid docs. I just had that cortisone injected in my hip....and it was no good.
but I admit now the hip feels much better.
Oh, believe me, if they want to play hard ball so will I. I tracked down their policy info and printed it out. I have also signed up for the "movement advice" and am seeing what I have to do to get someone to come clean my house while my back hurts-- I think so far I just need a doctor's note to make them pay for that. And I will track down anything else I can that they have to pay for.
Red, I have a friend who needs that every six months. I know it's nasty, but it does help!
Wow, my doc will only inject my joint 2 times in my life! He says the steroid thins the joint a little.
Red - I've been after my Doc to approve a cortisone shot for my hip. He keeps refusing. He's usually very reasonable. I think I'll suggest trading hips with him.
I thought I had made a big mistake but it really did improve, but I was inactive for 2-3 weeks, so I wonder if I had just been inactive for that amt of time if I would have just gotten beter.
That sounds rather silly, red. I mean, aren't hip joints the largest joints in the body?
My friend really needs a new hip, but her insurance says she's too young. In January she can switch insurers and get that done.
Well, if you thin them out...they willbe very prone to breaking...So I agree with him.
Too young. Now, that makes no sense at all.
I've heard it actually from about 4-6 docs over the years.
I agree. A degraded hip is a degaraded hip. She's 56.
I am going to have to have my hip replaced as well, but I want to wait until at leat 20 more years.
mornin babblers!
Hi evan!!!
Hi, Eva!
Hi Evan!
Morning Eva
how are we all this morning?
I'll let you know in a while... just had acupuncture.
How are you?
hello from Georgia
Moaning and complaining, Eva. You know, the usual!
Hi Ice!
i feel the week is dragging, but tomorrow is halloween, and i love halloween!
HIya ice... *s* what part of ga you from? If that is okay to ask
I was saying a bit ago, we don't have that here. But on the 5th (nov) the kids all go singing and reciting poetry door to door with paper or veggie lanterns and get treats.
how is everyone
I'm on vacation... south of atlanta
What's a vacation?
MG -- ive always wanted to try acupuncture, so youll hafta lemme know how that went...
ahhh I live south of atlanta... pretty far south... near savannah...you enjoying your vacation?
Today it's too soon to tell (the electrified needles were a bit painful, though). But I have had very good results with it in the past.
is it painful in general?
Once I had a headache, worst I've ever, ever had. It was so bad I couldn[t move. Someone told me to go to the acupuncture college. My husband helped me to the car and off we went.
lol vacation is a wonderful thing.. esp when a relative pays for the plane ticket.. and yes it's good to be with family
No, not really painful at all, just a bit prickly.
afternoon everyone
*tunes dial* What's that monkey? You're a little staticky. Must be the residual EMF.
So we went in for the headache and teh instructor got a bunch of students in after one look at me. He covered my face in needles (painless) through th eeyebrows, temples, etc.
anywho, mom wants to go shopping so I better get a shower so we can go
hen he said, "This should do it!" and stuck a needle through the bridge of my nose. That headache turned off like someone threw a switch. Colors got brighter. Birds sang. Headache never came back.
Afternoon all
WOW! I want that!
Hi FM!
Hi FM :-)
It was amazing.
Hi Katie, MG et al

Norman! what a great name for a cat!

Eva - my favorite thing in your zombie pics is the "pleasure chest". Cracks me up.
Norman was named after Norman Bates, because he was pretty psycho when he first adopted us.
can someone clue the ly7?
looooool *fab*!
ho6 please
Ho6: ho+ double consonant + opposite of out.
I don't believe it, there are still snow patches on the ground and the gardeners are trying clear leaves!
Ever since we had Norman neutered and now force him to sleep next to my husband's buttocks, he's been much calmer.

you are taking your frined a fake meal????? shame
she's a fake friend, so it all evens out... and I'm cooking real dinner, just fake dessert - which she probably doesn't let her kids eat anyway
fake friend cuz you don't really like her? or fake friend due to too much plastic? LOL
don't really like. were once better friends, then I figured her out
c's are done
sad
it was sad actually - I cried! Then I realized something - she NEVER was a good friend, and I had to adjust my perceptions. Now, I'm over it! lol
meanwhile, she's never changed... it was all me! good thing I figured her out - or else I'd be hurt over and over again!
so the loss of an ideal rather than a real loss.... interesting
yup - exactly. I was actually proud of myself for figuring it out. I cried when I told her - if you can believe that I told her - lol

nah, even heather isn't a "heather" - i always think of those bitchy heathers from that movie called heathers
20 left - have I mentioned how much I love Lickety?
no no no
yes, lickety is veryhelpful today... can then monkey better
Ladies and Gentlemen.... first time ever I have fireworks!!!

oooohh - a blessing from aloy.. there you go jorja
and TO and kje and AsG, happy days!
wow, you kicked those 50 out pretty fast asg, I'm impressed
thanks - but I gotta run for now. Fake brownies are almost done, and tennis starts at noon. bbl to finish!
(FM).. hi there crossy, kje, AsGreen.. (-: Am feeling rather guilty as we must have brought the COLD to Fla. down with us.. wishing it would go away, actually am wearing a jacket!
beat them asg : )
hi fm
we had 1 inch of snow last night aloy:/
don't tell that to red, aloy, she is pretty annoyed at the cold in FL
Hows you today crossy?
crossy, we had more than that here
aaaaack, hubby says he is allergic to the white flaky stuff
hi to TO too..
not too bad at all fm..treatments finished 2 days ago:))))
We had snow 2 days ago first time in 70 yeas in October. Oh crossy may they be the last sweetie!!
Aloy - get him some dundruff shampoo then :)
LOL, FM..
yup now its all the ensure and ice water i can handle;))
and hugs and laughs and babble time cos that has to be good for somthing!!
babble tiime and friend time is the best healer;)
plus my lovely lady babying me:))
and um intersting grids like today - that will aid hair loss even faster ;)
yeah..you better say that crossy
Hi ruru!
I think I should have started this grid with Lickety.. I am stuck
actually she is..have a nice fresh tea beside me,weaing a clean fuzzy house coat and have a fuzzy bankie handy;))
hi fm
a fuzzie bankie - is that a finanical expert who is frazzled out?
hi, ruru.. crossy, i think everyone at the U. Nations should have a blankie
clue for the last ch 5/16 please
there are many un-words ruru:/
i agree aloy,a nappie time and cookies and mild and they just might work effectivly
world peace would be facilitated if everyone had a blankie
milk*
Think musical note combination Boo
ty
I think a fuzzie bankie is a new wall street drink..
two shots of tequilla, two shots of vodka... twoo shots of rum...
lol, ruru..
and just wave the vermouth bottle over the glass
hi aloy sorry net here is slow OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHH the bar is OOPEN?????
it is?? ill have one bourbon, one scotch and one beer please;)
LOL we know now how to temp TO out of lurkdom
anyone hear what happened to the Babble site lately? Couldn't log on for quite a while the other day
gr_got was doing some server work aloy
god*
hahahahahaha you are saving me from murder - the competition has showed up after sneaking in here
good grief:/
dr_god
does Dr. God.. play an instrument with ZZ Top?...just asking..
LOL
The server needed attention and Dr-G worked his magic yesterday Aloy so all is well again now after much angst.
dr*..i should fire up the speak and type program i think;/
ah, so ... whew, glad all is finally well... yup, angst and withdrawal
ruru did you know the work gullible is actually not in the dictionary?
really..so many republicans are described by that word you would think it was..
lol, no fair, FM... i am really gullible.. where's my dictionary?
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse /gullible
ok - politics in, owl out
ruru - did you see the ice sculpture on wall street?
no... what was it?
here you go aloy:)
TO don't go!!!
just kiddin owl... jeez
wow, cross.. you are FAST
our elections are all over..we just voted for the devil we knew;)
these lurking politicos are really thin skinned...
it is the letters spelling economy
aloy..im a mess today actually,im lucky i can track any conversation at all
i am not a lurking politico, i am just too bored with it in chat.
and of course, it os not below freezing in NYC... so it is meting, which was the point of the artists
i thought it was pretty clever - LOL
Wow that is clever...and wet too
and i will go before i begin to comment further, ruru.
http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking%2 BNews/World/Story/STIStory_296429.html
my feeble post earlier was btw an attempt at a joke, now you know why I don't do jokes too often. *slinks off to a dark corner*
** I looked up babble chat rules .. you are allowed single salvo jokes about politics as long as you don't continue the discussion..
TO stay and play please!
there, there, FM.. I thought it was a clever joke.. (-:
crossy decides this would be a good time to feed the cats brb....
... hands FM a blankie..
well, the poly talk will die down in a few days anyway...
later, crossy
clue for the last ha 4/6 please
oooh thanks Aloy, my mom lost my blankie and I still remember it's colors, funny the things that stick in the memory
rhymes with syn. for "appellation"
ha4/6 - pig output + a vowel
(clue for Boo)
Boo, rhymes with what you are called
pig output...?
In the 70's we called them tickets...
OK, that was a sad clue, but i got stumped for a second - LOL
blankies get mysteriously "lost".. usually by parents or g.parents who are appalled by how dirty they are when they are dragged around all the time.. h'mmm
20 minutes and I haven't found a single word.. I need more coffee..
coffee up, ruru.. the words will appear!
but then why don't parents get 2 blankies so there is a back up - would save the trauma!
ask for a clue ruru...
do you need clues kje? ;)
well, my daughter's yellow blankie was lost when she visited her g. parents... and it was indeed traumatic.. no substitute
because one bankie becomes special and the "one"
there we go.now the cats arnt trying to sit on the keyboard to get my attention:)
not me fm
you done? yay!
I think TO is mad because the polls are not in her favor...
ha 6/24 please?
gheez ma kneez.. i'm done too.
Wahoo! WTG Aloy
it is way to close to feel good ruru... so don't jinx it
cross, it is the adj. form of the ha4
yay aloy!!!
or ha4 + Mr Gore
congrats to you too, FM.. ah, good clue
FM is done too? WOOHOO FM!
Hi FMitch, kje, Aloysius, cross, ruru. Any clues for ma5/14 pls?
Congrats Aloy!
howdy hydra;)
yaa for fm! 21 gun salute for you!
Afternoon hydra :)
hi hydra, that word is weird.. ma + beginning of the Queen of the Nile's name
I have returned from a bad run, but not too bad because I got to do it at all!
Oh! You too, FM. Well done!
Thanks very much, Aloy. Hi red.
dran. ran out of paper... brb
congratulations to all finishers!
hi there, red.. crank up the heat, would ya please? I thought Fla. was supposed to be warm
Good goind red, how was it though?
was -5 last night dont feel to bad aloy:/
brrrrrrrr cross.. you are right, I really shouldn
It IS cold. I am not looking forward to outdoor swimming later today.
't bellyache, sorry
had the layers on and the touque:/
my fingers are frozen, lol
ALoy...its warmed up nicely...
swimming? No way, just the thought .. brrrrr
Get a pair of fingerless glove Aloy, sound strange I know but keeps hands warm esp when typing.
ok, I'm going out into the sunshine to finish weeding the driveway area.. good idea, FM... tallyho, off I go.. see you all tomorrow, I hope! byeee
BTW how cold are we talking for FL?
its 6 degrees, not too bad.
i meant 66
well one good thing is that in 5 weeks or so we will have the snow bunnies on the hill once again:)))
f
66 f?? lol would be out working on our tan:))
lol, red ! Was a record setting low yesterday.. in the 40's but the forecast is fortunately much nicer,,.
g'morning everyone. How you doin' today?
it has warmed up nicely. It was in the 30'swith a freeze warning...
50f here
hard to think in imperial measure after all this time
wow! it is actually 6 degress celcius here
Hey autumn!
ok, poofin on outta here.. (-:
enjoy Aloy!
we are at 7c in the sun now python;))
Hi hydra, hows things?
brrr
just popping in to say hi... and find a few words. I am supposed to be doing the housework, laundry and packing for our trip tomorrow.,,,,
Where are you off to autumn?
off to Ottawa, ON for a wedding
Family or friend and will we see pics?
Oh Have fun Autumn!
close friend, almost family.. and I will post on both my FB page and flicker when we get back... not that I have a lot of pics posted already
Have a lovely time
have fun autumn
i am sure we will. Just not looking forward to entering "snow time" already
Well, I am slowing up with 24 left. Dont feel inclined to get list yet.
Hello, Babbleland.
Hi VIcuna. I htink I killed the chat.
no you didn't, red. I just want to find my 21 left so I will go do my housework.
Quick! Give it mouth-to-mouth, or something!
do you swim in the ocean, red, or a pool
pool kje. I am about 64 miles from any ocean...
VIcuna, its my day off work!!!
but pool is not heated like it should be.
:(
hmmm... the only reason I would ever even consider living in FL would be views of the ocean... too bad you are so far away
Enjoy, redturtle!
ho 6 clue?
The day off, not the cold pool, that is.
The area I am in itself is not really scenic. I am mostly here for the gym... what can I say.
ho + double consonant... ends in noise
ty
yw mr rock
kje... what does ends in noise mean?
the last 3 letters mean a ruckus
may have to stop cluing today seeing as my clues keep getting attacked - LOL
or most of a me4
I get your clues (at least the ones I have read today) KJE.
It was a fine clue, and it was hardly attacked.
I liked your clue kje...
I was soooo not attacking your clueing.... more my understanding, LOL! I find it really is not the cluer who is wrong, generally the cluee... usually me, LOL!
TY autumn
vi - i was exagerating
Ok , I have to actually go back to the gym...blech.
Exaggerating? I never exaggerate. Never never never.
have fun with that, red.. You can come here and do my chores if you'd like instead... : P
work hard red... how much longer until your run?
fireworks here
WTG Teach
woohoo wv!
Yay for wvteach!
forever kje, since i had to have the cortisone. I'm back building base again. It will probably be in MAY. horibble, but I have to treat my body better than I used to.
*Poofity Poof poof*
bummer red
everyone have a lovely day!
Bye, redturtle!
speaking of clues, kje, can you help me with the nu's? I have the last one.
3 relate to the neck...
nu + latin dance the *** *** (one, two *** *** ***)
then make that a latin plural
then male it end in mr gore
thx kje. got them all
the next nu6 is plural of the center of an atom
(think along the lines of the word commonly butchered by W... and now also by Palin)
3 left... an H and 2 i's.... looking
shall i guess autumn?
not yet, kje. Unlike some babblers, I will actually look before I ask for clues.
Ho hum, lunch over, back later. Yay for autumn in advance, since you're so close! Bye, all!
bye vi
bye Vi (thanks for the confidence in me)
kje - is the ha6 a common word?
it is a british word... and no, not common unless you are in a health field maybe
related to the ha4 before it, autumn
Thanks kje.
yw moon
*D*O*N*E*
YAY Autumn!!!
(crap, and the washing machine just finished the cycle so I guess that's it for me)
here i am to clue if needed...
have fun
Have a great day. Good luck to the lookers, congrats to the finishers and happy chat to those not being either. HI Hursh, Bye Hursh
nu 624 not the aunt's partner one
centers of atoms
ends in flower necklace, ru
thanks one left the in 6/21
breathe in ruru
fish me for my last word...
*throwing a salmon ru's way*
woohoo for finishing!
maybe because like President Clinton I smoked pot.. but I didn't in6
(not)
thank you
not... you didn't smoke... or not, you did in6?
he did in6.
that is my guess too hursh
given the economy today.. I wish I in6d more...
maybe I should start in 6 -ing today
could easily sneak a little patch in amongst all those grape vines... no?
yes.. that would work... medical reasons ya know..
but of course... why ELSE would you in6
that and because my football team sucks too
yay for that... never liked the 49ers
hi
could be because i grew up in dallas - LOL
11 left, still not listing
hi josh
I hate the cowboys... ugh
i listed
but i never in6d
a bunch of big babies
and a big baby for an owner ...who brings in spoiled and self centered players..
i am not an nfl fan in general anymore... they are all a big bunch of babies...
go josh!
and what is with Jessica Simpson anyway?
yes, the days of landry and murchison are long past
he's young and has urges i guess - lolol
yeah, ruru! seen her telling that woman going speed-dating in a commercial "don't do anything i wouldn't do"?
but is that still going on?
poor woman can't hold an intelligent conversation in her speed dates?
oooo it's that strange american sports language again :D
ata!
great pic of hobbit
It would be very difficult to go out on a date with her and have to stick to single syllable words all the time
ty :)
but is he really any better than that, ruru.. .he is a football player! not exactly an intellectual
... er got me there...
and i do not think the conversation is the main attraction
she was a very brave girl - it was the first time ever she managed to fetch sticks from the evil depths of the sea. All foot deepness of it!
some players are very bright though...
not after a concussion or two
okay...I give..
give what?
up..
lol
aaahhh, what is the fun of that
have you seen the videos of those monkeys that work in some restaurant in asia? they are so cute.
yes! so cute!
Good afternoon/evening all.
and did you hear that shamans in Lima are polling 9-2 for obama?
someone at your highly brilliant BBC called them "shamen" in the link to the story...
haz! I was hoping you'd come on. I found myself in the midst of a liver-and-white spaniel snowstorm when out with Hobbit. I saw 6 of them. 6!!
LOL hursh - seriously... that is ridiculous
6? All belonging to the same owner?
nope. all different owners. I swear all liver-and-whites in Kent must have been there!
Maybe there was a convention or something. Were they happy and bouncy?
hugely bouncy. bouncy, wet, muddy and very happy
It was a bit freaky though
And not a ribbon or bow in sight? Real doggy dogs.
"dogs" say my cats with an incredulous shake of their heads
real doggy dogs. mostly liver-white-and-mud
I thought of you last night when David Tennant made his announcement. Are you in mourning?
what did david tennant announce?? is he quitting dr who????
not as much as FM will be, I think
Yes.
ohhh noooooooooooooooooooo
He will do a couple of specials in 2009 but 2010 will see a new Dr.
why would he do this? :(
Poor cats. They'll be wondering why their mistress is distraught.
He didn't want to be typecast - said if he didn't make the move now he never would.
because he wants to do other things!
All announced in his own Scottish voice.
and he's been the Dr for a while now, it's time for a change
Is there any rule that says there are only a limited number of changes that Dr Who can have?
yes ......
i have just un-become-his-fan on facebook
although i spose it's different in the UK
Oh hurshy. You're so harsh. The man is an actor, he needs to be stretched. (He's appearing in Hamlet at the Royal Shakespeare Company)
in america, if someone quits a popular role to "do other things", they are almost never successful. clooney, of course, being a notable exception.
but DT was famous before Dr Who
It's different here, I think.
well i find this estremely sad
he's so cute, i love him as the doctor
I'm sorry to have been the one to break the news, then.
ah well, it's not YOUR fault, haz
i'm not one to blame the messenger
that's part of Dr Who, I'm afraid. He reincarnates
Oh, absolutely not. I've not watched the programme for perhaps two decades.
yes but he could have waited another few seasons...
why?
it's about the right time, doctor canon-wise
hmph
I wondered if there might be a talent contest, a la Lloyd Webber, to find the replacement. FM had a dose of the shivers at the prospect.
at least we know the human-doctor is living on happily with rose... that's some comfort.
wahhhh *cries* no no NOO!
i thought it was really sad what happened about donna though... do you mean a TELEVISED talent contest, haz?
Not keen on the Lloyd Webber scenario?
that would be BAD
Yes, hurshy, they're all the rage here. Lloyd Webber can't get his face in enough of them.
they're all the rage here too, but i can't watch most of them
And it's such a strange face.
hi babblers
you just came up with the doctor idea out of your own head, though, right? it doesn't have any basis?
Oh - good news for you, hurshy. You like Simon Cowell, don't you?
yes, i enjoy simon's bluntness
He received a special recognition award last night at the British National TV awards.
oh, well, i don't really care about him winning awards. unless he said something blunt while accepting it.
The Lloyd Webber scenario is indeed a figment of my imagination. Although, given his track record, I wouldn't be surprised if he proposed it.
mind you, John B is bound to be on "Who is the next doctor?" so we could just drool over him
Well, he sat mouthing 'I don't believe it' when another programme beat his for an award.
Hello pugmama!
that's something! :)
do you like Russell Brand then, Hurshy? :P
thanks haz (felt invisisble there)
i don't know who russell brand is...
Stirrer!
Stirrer being Ata rather than Pugmama!
hi puggy!
he's blunter than simon!
I wish the rest of us didn't know him either.
hi ata
but who be he? butcher, baker, candlestick maker, MP?
me too
oh he's hideous
A creep who thinks he's funny.
Think loathsome and multiply.
with bad hair
a hideous creep, i've got that much... but how is it that you know him
what is his venue
he's TV / radio presenter / "comedian"
He's on TV and radio over here.
so like a carson daly
"one person, with the talent of half a person, doing the job of four people"
um ...
help with the LY7 please? down to 4 & really struggling...
I don't think I'd even claim RB has the talent of an eighth of a person
pug - it's an anagram of the hanging ly5, with a verb form of 'to be' tacked on to the end.
ly + mr. columbus, change r to n
ty vm excellent clue hursh!
well, i was just quoting jon stewart's description of carson daly, ata.
yw
ty also haz am a bit woozy 7 didnt see your clue till now !
That's okay!
hello everyone
there's an ac and an a? ??
hi annie
Hello Annie!
and an al
ty!
hi pug and haz
hd
tv
does mo6 extend from the 5?
No, it doesn't
clue please if not a fish?
I don't think it's a fish. First letters of Miss Lisa in the Louvre, last letters of the sea creature we've been talking about.
what an odd word!
never mind got it
Isn't it?
oh, as in admo6 I guess
hello all
hurshy, do you play Wordsplay?
hi peri
Hello peri.
hi peri
monkeyed the weird ma5....1 to go
there's a weird ma5?
ma5/14
weird to me anyway,the 5/14
it was weird to me too
That ma 5.14 is my last word and I just cannot find it....clue, please, please
ma+ sanitary or ***an
Annie, it has the same structure as the famous syrup from Canada, but replaces the middle letter with another consonant.
thanks, pug and Haz....Fireworks!!!
very odd word!
Congratulations!
YAY ANnie!
yahoooo annie!!!!
help please with HO6 ?? my last also..(praying not a fish)
thank you all
ho + double letter + not out
ho6 - combine what you carry bricks in with a terrible noise (three of each)
ty vm ata 7 fireworks
yay for pugmama!!!!!
Congratulations!
yay pug!
ty my lovlies!
think I shall change my icon back to my little fat boy & take a nap...
For seasoned Babblers - is this considered a very hard grid or not...always curious as I struggle
Gadget it sucks
I wouldn't call it as hard as some I've seen.
not easy, either, though
my sentiments, exactly
I feel a bit better then ;-)
icon check..
No, it's not a walk in the park, I agree.
ok good. It's not MY Puggy but great icon for Halloween!
Im off to see the Wizard, bye, dear babblers
are there only 2 C5?
bye annie & bye all for Now! Happy babbling! Poof!
there are three C 5's
aha ty
one ca 5 two ch 5
FM said earlier there were 2 ch5. she didn't mention the ca! bad fm!
why are words so obvious when you know they are there!
thats cos you only asked about ch5 silly girl!
She's trying to train you to be a better babbler.
shhhhh I'm trying to blame you :P
oops sorry *hides again*
*giggle*
stay stay!
are the Y words remotely normal?
Define normal..
there's a yl4
in enable land yes Esprit - in normal world some.
And a yu4 - one letter short of being a plant.
And yu4/9 - sounds like an expression of disgust.
ok got the plant one
and the other could be a comment about this grid (ish)
got the disgust
I see that my problem is looking for words I know instead of words that are ridiculous
yl4 - y plus the start of a yellow citrus fruit.
lol eprit!
ok got them thanks you Geniuses
Well no wonder I hadn't found that last Y!
Smugness abounds.
Thanks, Haz, and howdy, pardners.
Can't monkey the dh4...help?
dh4 - anagram of Roald, writer of Matilda etc.
Vi!!!
dh4 - ends in the ever-present Mr Gore
Hello Vicuna - how are you?
dh4 - indian lentilas?
Dandy, as always. How are you?
ty
*lentils even, have no idea where all those extra letters came from!!
Indian lentilas - sounds like fusion cookery!
I was thinking the same. SOunds yummy, though, whatever it is.
I'm fine as well. Much heartened by a dry day.
hi Vi!
Ata here, too? My chatterbox runneth over.
Glad the nappies are working along with the meds then Haz :)
All we need is for Lori to *** announce herself***.
awww isn't that nice!
Oh, FM. You promised you wouldn't tell.
I'm trying to find a colour scheme for new-knotwork-from-hell
I understand *** makes you invisible ***
Well, from hell would imply something with lots of fiery colors and blacks. Unless you're going for the ice circle...
try colourlovers.com Ata - if you can't find it there it doesn't exist!
((Haz)) sorry forgot we wouldn't talk of that.
Thanks. If other people knew they'd only pity me. And I don't want pity.
we only pity you for having to feed a dog every now and then
We won't see Ata agaoin for a while - the first time I entered that website I was lost in joy for at leat 24 hours. Oh great you spoiled that post Ata - gee thanks!
That's true.
lol
lol
wah! what did I do?
You appeared still here when FM was busy predicting we'd never see you again!
She obviously has steadfastly ignored your advice, FM.
Does that colour thing work for lots of people, FM?
I will go there when I can't discover my own colour scheme :P
Oh fllobies just got email from client with stuff for meeting tomorrow a.m which means much prep - toodles - big sigh!
Would it be a good diversionary tactic when trolls and others call?
annoying clients!
Bye FM (trying not to leak from the eyes - I've been so good in other areas today)
Oh no, poor FM! Be brave, be strong!
That website must have a different address. Unless FM speaks Russian.
It spoke English for me. Maybe you're really the one speaking Russian, Haz.
I've found one called colourscheme.com - it looks the business.
lol, that one didn't work for me!
Clearly one of us is Russian!
Haz has a Z in her name. Suspicious
Your icon looks a bit Russian imperial to me. J'accuse!
You're speaking French. So you're not English, at any rate!
good point Vi
And we know all ferriners are the same.
Of course, the Russian Imperial court spoke French rather than Russian.
Wait, I'm making it worse for myself.
1 all
Did they? Well why don't you just keep digging yourself deeper, Comrade Tsarina Haz.
oh wait/ it must be advantage to Vi, at least now
oooh! Go, Ata! (7 for me, and at this rate I will definitely not find them before having to go fetch the spawn.)
Oh! I thought you were saying you had one left, not the score! lol
Okay - try www.colorschemer.com and see what you get.
just refereeing :)
Nothin'.
Are you sure you're linked to the internet?
nothing
no, which is why i'm not writing here
www.ColorSchemer,com
Oh, you're right. I'm probably not connected right now as I discuss this with you. Ha ha.
Husband home - time for tea! Back later, perhaps.
byeeeeee
Oh there you go, you have to spell "color" right. ;)
Oh dear, bye Comrade Haz!
bloody american spelling :P
can't you lot spell properly :P
Better get used to it young lady, if you're thinking of joining us!
Ishall maintain my spelling ability *haughty look*
And when a car has a boot here, it's a Very Bad Thing.
and fanny packs mean very different things
that was funny vi!! and too true
You can't pass the citizenship test without renouncing and abjuring all foreign spelling.
Hello, again, kje!
pah!
hi vi
(I lied about the citizenship test.)
I know. bloody lying americans :P
(At least, I assume I did. I've never actually taken it.)
Isn't there an election over there at some point?
Aaaaaand..... Time to go. Back later!
Gah! Election talk? I'm leaving just in time!
tuesday ata... too far away, alas
(This coming Tuesday.)
and don't we all know it
Hi again for a bit...
hi mg
Can anyone clue that A? I have nothing...
al4/5, ac4/7
ac + x**ophone
alem
Thank you!
oops, not a word
No, I tried that, Jess...
it was very close though...
Oh, was it? Cool! That'll get me started...
Well, willya look at that! That's a word?
And thanks for teh clue for the other one!
sure, no problem
It's cold here. I have put the cat's favorite blanket on me. She was right put out (lap is occupied with laptop), but she's decided to lie on my feet.
just adding some extra heat...
How do they know, though? The cat cannot really see most of hertself in the larger picture, of course. This blanket is all teh colors she is, and if she lies on it she's nearly invisible. Talk about the power of instinct!
I have 7 of the 8 m's for the upper right. It would be a hassle for everyone trying to figure out whichj I am missing. But... is there a really weird one? Because none of the ones I have are.
ma5/14
Meanwhile teh dog has dragged her bed to the middle of the narrow way into this room and fallen asleep on it.
ow, Ata, taht'd be it! Commencing looking...
Wow, not ow...
well, sometime's it can be painful....
True, true.
I was missing the same one.
Sigh... could you clue it?
ma* & cheese + I need to mail a **tter
Thanks! Never heard of it!
For so few words this grid is a stinker.
OK, sorry to be a pain, but can I also get a clue for the lower left I? I have the charged particles.
io5 io + loud noise
hello everyone, I need help with the n's , please
io5 chemical

What do you want to know Napo?
clue for ly7/44 - means word starts with ly, has 7 letters, and is worth 44 points... can also read the help section above the chat log for scoring explanation
the numbers?
I know I'm gonna need the ly7 clue

the first number is the number of tiles in the word...
...the 2nd is the point value of the words (when the tiles are added together)
Napo....we all clue different ways so would be hard. Asterick indicate missing letters which you need for the word though

Little but with a sting in the tail Denny :) fun none the less.
Hello, again! Time to chase down those last few words.
Vi, an unexpected pleasure!
Actually, I was thinking *your* presence was the unexpected pleasure! ;)
OK mutual admiration society is in progress :)
=D
I've just finished work so thought I would see what was happening in babble land
Earthquakes? Typhoons? Coups? Cures for cancer and elimination of world hunger?
You never know what you might find here.
LOL
don't tempt me :)
What have you got? Bring it on!
However if you did go back in the archive you would get acupuncture hints and tips
Ah yes. Of course. See, the chat is always good for what ails you.
And the more that ails you, the more at home you'll feel here.
Got any cures for sciatica?
I have returned again, I sort of stopped to make some lasagne. Yum.
rest Denny. and sit on a bag of frozen spinach a few times a day...
*gazes into crystal ball*
Hi red :0
Hi FM how goes it?
LO red - rest - with 2 toddlers - LOL
could somebody please clue the ly differently? I have tried every combo I can think of for that.
piano, is it a ly 5?
LOL denny...
Oh Vi would take your kids on for a while Denny - she love children so much she had 2 at the same time!!
It's a whole lot of consonants coming together in the middle, pianoman.
Try anagram of the ly5 + "What in the world -- that?"
piano - think of a hanging
I think I have that, but there was an ly7 clued below red.
Or a gruesome clue, hang someone from a tree in the Southern US.
ly7 is a garden plant. One of that family has common name "maltese cross" that might be googleable.
sorry thought you were looking for the ly5
Oooh going to google.
(clue at 4:03, too)
How many left to find Vi?

me too . . . can't take much more!
hey, peeps
hey tyger
me too! And can't even vote
Jilli! LOL
me, too. Be glad when it is over.
hi tyger :)
I haven't even been reading my (subscribed) newsmagazines. I'm hibernating in fiction until this is over
Hi Tyger how are you?
hey, une
I'm hooked on CNN...
I'm SOOOOO sick of politics :(
I knew you were smart, tyger!
hey, turtle
LOL thx, jilli
same here, red, but I haven't got it on during the day
OK I am tired of this 8 left. going for list.
speaking of people who can't vote, I got this today from a Japanese friend in Brussels: The American Presidencial Election is on the top line of the news everyday even in Europe. We really hope the Americans will have the best decision to choose their President.
go, turtle :)
attagirl, red -- no need to be masochistic
how diplomatic, une :)
one wonders whom they believe is the "best decision"
It's a big deal...and that was very diplomatic! and polite!
She's a big Obama fan--sent me an adorable video of her little girl shouting "Obama! Obama!"
Hi, all!
If it's those who are concerned about China, I'm sure it's McCain. and some other groups. but there are also many other groups who are all for Obama
How cute!
hi pam :)
hey, Pam!
hi, jilli, une, and red!
Tyger, the majority of Europeans are pro-Obama
there was a certain amount of truth in the accusation that Obama is a rock star
yes, I know, une
hey, pam
ditto Canadians
5 to go and could use some help
any clues for ha 6/24?
ask away, mama
one of my weekly magazines - that friends kindly afford for me - is The Economist
I agree--re: rock star, tyger. But after 8 years of W, I am OK with rock star, LOL
Hi, tyger
whatcha need, Mabook?
ha6 add mr. gore to ha4/6 #1
ha6/24 -- ha4/6 + Mr Gore
I love the economist.
pam, I am NOT going to discuss politics on here again. the lesson before was too painful
jess beat me again
I sometimes steal it from the waiting room if I can find it!
you know what it costs, then :P
Used to read the economist at the Assisted Living where I worked--the residents passed it on when they were done...
thanks jess & jilli...got it!
Sorry, tyger, was just agreeing with your statement....
yw
wtg mama
also need help with the Nu 5 and both the NU 6/27
s'aright :)
nu5: Latin for neck
nu + Phillies are World Series ***mpions
oh, excellent clue, jess
:) thought I'd tried that
the 6s are built on it, mabook
back in a bit...
gee thanks tyger :)
just go to Economist.com
Oh My I foudn I was missing the word for the toxic substance that used to be in paint, plus the plural...go list. Embarassed.
archaic word, that nu, htnaks for the clue!
first 2, anyway
that happens to all of us sometimes, turtle :D
Une that is a good idea. I never remember to do that.
to me all of the time, tyger 8-)
that IS a good idea--it's how I peruse National Review, just never think of it for the economist....
even those who aren't subscribers can access most of the Economist site, so long as they register, but I get too much eyestrain if I try to do too much reading on the computer :(
Sometimes, though, I think that it would be good for a story, tyger... I like having things in hand, myself....
I support the idea of using (MUCH) less paper, but my eyes are rebellious on that point :( :(
I dont enjoy reading on the computer either, but...for a story or two its ok.
same here
there is one SF publisher which gives free access to E-versions of all their catalog to the disabled, and I'm registered there, but I can't read too much at a time
I wont even admit the me words I was missing.
we won't tease you about it, turtle. you should be about finished now :)
altho I'm happy to have discovered Ctrl + Mouse middle button for enlarging the text
ctrl and the plus key also works :)
last one... ma 5/14
yikes, it sure does!! LOL
I like supporting the idea of paper books and the like, when I have the money, because I hate the thought of everything vanishing into cyberville.... like the Christian Science Monitor...
I was shocked about the shristian science monitor...
I own a very large number of books - both fiction and non
on the mac, it's view, enlarge text...
I have to admit its nice to look at and select bindings and illustrations and such.
me, too, red
ma* & cheese + live and **t die
We were disucssing this earlier today...Asg is geting that Kindle reading device for her Hubby from Amazon.
well, more like view, text size, enlarge....
thanks, jess
I wasn't, turtle. I've been following the dismal economics of the newspaper publishing business. I'm a big fan of editorial cartoons, and cartoonists are losing their jobs right and left
help with MO 6 24?
yw pam
hurray... fireworks... don't see those often
thanks so much for your help!!
yay, mabook
mo + da**** pastry
the same thing happened some years ago to studio musicians when synthesizers came into popularity...
congrats mama!
mo6/24: mo + you're a **ce person + I **all vote
I know, red, and it's sad.... Vinyl albums are making a comeback...
you're so right, turtle. it was a disaster for working musicians
an awful lot of them were no longer able to earn a living :(
It really was, and you can tell the difference if you listen carefully...
one word left.
here's a Halloween outrage: http://tinyurl.com/6cmkkd
THanks for the mo clue everyone.
oh, yeah - just like the difference between an acoustic piano and an electric one
yw :)
Yay Fireworks. for me.
congrats red!
BRB
yay, red!
yay, turtle
YAY red!!!
back!
thanks!
that was fast :)
I dont always get the FW so its nice.
did anyone check that link I gave below at 6:23?
I did, jilli
not nice :(
horrible, I thought
at least this grid was an easy one. so many small grids are difficult
didn't see it, will do so now. Thanks for asking so nicely instead of assuming you were being ignored, jilli!!!!!! 8-)
it makes you wonder about how some people think
I found it not too bad -- it helped that I'm remembering a few more babblets these days
that's repulsive, jilli. Too much hatespeak this election--from all sides, lest anyone think I was singling someone out....
I mean the grid!
LOL, jilli!!!!!
I imagine everyone understood that, jilli :D
evening everyone :-)
hey, katie
hi katie :)
hi, katie!
well, I'm going back to look for halloween icons...
I'm somewhat inured, on the subject of effigies, thanks to the 3 years I lived here in MS in the 60s :(
it was dreadful here then
UGH, tyger, a horrid reason for said inurement....
could I have a clue for the ly7 please
I really should start thinking about an icon for next month
I have an acquaintance in exile from S Africa. She moved her grandmother her. At 93, that woman cast her first vote ever. To me, the franchise is a sacrament of democracy...
yeah, pam. but these days, I'd say there's less racism here than in the north. It's really strange
absolutely, pam. my father taught that it's a duty
ly7 take the middle ltr from ly5 and add to end of word + she ** afraid of the dark
It' s overt there, and much less than the covert crap here... I think the South was compelled to deal with it, the North not so....
ly7: ly + not a rope, but a **ain + not nasty but **ce + plural
I think you've nailed it, pam
thanks for ly7!
I have spent a LOT of time thinking about this very issue, tyger, thanks for the pat on the back!
yw :)
yvw
I am so so excited, I just recalled I bought a snickers bar...and now its about time for dessert. going to save it for THe daily show.
thank you all for the clues, got it now
that is great, red
the high school I attended was fully integrated, but - except for a single black family in my township - all other blacks lived in a single one of the townships surrounding the town where the HS was
finished, katie?
Not so good for my hips, but whatever. i get to eat it
ma 4/14 please
My elementary school was fully integrated and most of the kids were bussed in, tyger...
No tyger still got 16 left
and after that black family had bought property in the twp where I grew up, other property owners incorporated a covenant into their deeds. My dad had to accept it when he bought the property where I grew up (purchased during WW2)
go, katie
wow, tyger....
ma* & cheese + live and **t die
ma5/14: scottish prefix + not follow but **ad
Wow I never even think about that, of course by the time I was in school, the schools had been integrated for a long time.
I was stoned on my way to synagogue as a kid---kids on the roof heaving rocks at us "jew killers" and this was in Brooklyn in the mid-70s
the family had bought an acre. by the time I was in school, there were houses crowded together on it, and 3 generations living there
Amazing.
freudian slip--christ killers
thanks tyger & red
people can be very, very ugly
yw, katie
I grew up in such a homogenous area, but my Mom was shocked when we moved there, someone asked her if she had ever met a Jewish person....
indeed, tyger. VERY ugly....
Ugly and stupid.
3 generations, tyger? Good for that family!
my father was belligerently egalitarian
and they were VERY light-skinned, pam :P
with "good hair"
I am sure that's how the first family bought, tyger... Mayhaps a "gift" from a progenitor?
nu 6/24 please
one of the granddaughters was several years older than I, and I recall riding the same school bus
which nu6/24? do you have either???
nope, pam
a purchase
I joined the Panel of Americans in High School, under the aegis of the National Assoc of Christians and Jews, to do anti racism work...
Hmmm, that is cool, tyger
1st nu6/24: oldfashioned Brit word for parent's male sibling
the purchase was what triggered the deed covenants
what a history our country has!
oops, that was the 2nd - 1st nu6/24: essential part of a cell
don't forget that the US was the first place where racism was recognized as a problem that needed solving. it was just accepted elsewhere
thanks tyger i needed them both
or the center of an atom... you know, related to the word W can't say well
it's still endemic in most countries, remember
Oh, I know, tyger. Just don't like to gloss it over, either
KJE!!!!!!
pam!
I think that W deliberately chose to mispronounce that word, kje
babble on this screen
and this on the other...Care Patterns in Medicare and Their Implications for Pay for Performance
no wonder i am in babbleland
LOl, kje
do you think palin chooses to mispronounce it also?
Jimmy Carter the physicist didn't say it well, either!
no idea, kje
it's an easy word to mispronounce, if you don't start out right
too yoing to remeber that, pam... but i do agree tyger... how can someone possibly mispronounce the same word for 8 years!!!
I meant, when you're first learning the word :)
in6 please
breath in
pam is right. and Carter - IIRC - served on a nu**** sub
hey, kje, you are not that much younger than I are you?
that has to be the most requested fish of the day...
thanks kje, trotting off for some fish!!
no... but besides the long gas lines and the hostages... i don't remeber a lot of carter
LOL katie
ahhh, kje, that makes sense
I liked his drawl, and I remember that his mama was a Peace Corps volunteer....
I guess it takes someone my age to remember the fuss over his Playboy interview
yeah, Miss Lillian :D
LOL, lust in his heart, tyger?
yup :D
you have to realize I am a VORACIOUS reader, 8-)
Fireworks :-) Thank you for all the clues
those few years are the difference between junior high and highschool when he was elected... and highschool and college when he was ousted... I had my mind on other things in highschool - LOL
yw, katie
and yay
yay, katie!!!!
LOLOL, of course
he did an interview with Playboy???? wasn't he a preacher or something?
woohoo katie!!!
LOLOL, kje... I was ADDICTED to the news, and to everything printed...
Congrats Kitt!!
no, he wasn't a preacher. I think maybe he was a deacon - and for sure, a Sunday School teacher
Carter is the first president I remember.
hey, scrabs!!
sorry for fireworks and running but nearly midnight and need my sleep, see you all tomrrow night :-)
hiya scrab
Playboy used to be well-known for its interviews... and for its boobs...
sleep well, katie
well just read it for the articles like everyone else...
I have been lurking while my mother was just talking at me on the phone. 9 to go!
yes, so they ALWAYS say.... they just buy it for the articles.... yep, i believe THAT one
I faintly remember Truman, and I recall I was sick at home, and heard Eisenhower's first inaugural on the radio
I stayed home from school for Watergate hearings...
go, scrabs
I have a patient named Truman--Tru for short.
I watched the movie "all the president's men" does that count?
LOL, kje....
an early boyfriend of mine was named Truman
speaking of patients, scrabs, how
Scrabs--the Afrin and gum Chewing helped more than ANYTHING, thanks!!!!!
oops! how's Benjamin?
tru would not be a bad name for a BF
Yahooo Pam! I am SO happy for you!
he was very cute, but that didn't last long
what happened to cutie pie tru?
No changes, tyger. We do have a new cancer patient in our practice--11 yr old Sabrina with Hodgkin's lymphoma. Please add her to your prayer list for your group.
my self-esteem wasn't up to assertion back then
thanks, scrab!!!!!
OK... back to work... will pop back later
sure will, scrabs. will you send me an email on it - so I don't forget to tell the group, please?
Hi scrabb, doesnt hodgkins have a fairly good prognosis?
sabrina.... nice name.....
So, Pam, you can hear and don't have that annoying popping/crackling/snapping/pressure.
heigh ho!
it's better, not gone, scrabs.....
hey, dorens
LOL Pam, I stayed home frm school for watergate hearings too. I think Nixon was pres when I was born. maybe.
I have it all of the time in my left ear.... just was SO MUCH WORSE
LOL, red...
Sabrina has Stage IVB, so more challenging to wipe out.
Hi Doren.
Oooh. Well hopefully she can respond well to treatment.
4B?
Happy Halloween Eve everyone!
Pam I dont know how you put up with that. i had so much trouble that day with the headache.
that's pretty serious, IIUC
same to you, scrabs
a challenge indeed scrabbs. hope you can help
good evening all
(((mom)))
tyger--it is a designation of the stage because treatment and prognosis for cancer depends upon initial staging at diagnosis and other factors, such as age, gender, and genetic tumor markers.
Hi Mom
{{Tyger}} hello
Ahh It is dily show time.
Barak Obama via satellite is on.
Happy Halloween Eve to you as well Scrabbler
i saw it last night red... he is so cool
OK people you must turn this on, groovy flowers are coming out of Jon Dailys mouth...

ma5/14: scottish prefix + not fat but **an
There are some very starnge words though, Gwen.
hey gwen
TY, tyger. At least I am not missing fish words.
And *strange* words too, Gwen.
yw :)
hello all, just booting up the computer, going to go silent as a pull an "all-nighter" to read a bunch of papers and write a couple things... *sigh*
another new one there... ty again tyg
hey, stiddie
yw :)
ah, stid the college girl!
Hello College Student Stiddy!
both of those words have been in grids before
I know because Firefox remembered them :P
Are the ly words related?
i believe you tyg, and glad you'e here to remind us.
I found ly5 --fish.
Ah so enjoying the show tonight...
ooooh. i can smell the cumin dusted cauliflower roasting in the oven... mouth watering
not in the least. the 7 is botanical the 5 is an ugly event
the ly's are not related.
Yummy, Doren.
the two that i hae aren't scran... anagram the 5/18 and add a form of to be
Botanical, huh?
coming to dorens for dinner.
TY, Doren!
the ly7 starts with the first 5 letters of the nut that begins ly
yes, scrabs. it's a plant with acquisitive leaves :)
yes, the cauliflower and the asagio, portabella chicken sausage from trader joe's are a delicious and easy meal tonite
Ah, I am inquisitive about acquisitive leaves.
I will need to go start doing something about dinner shortly. please get your clue requests in
yes, dorens exactly when should I show up and do you want me to dring some nice nutty bread??
oooh i found a word
okay, I am back ... scrolling back to see if Scrabbler found the MO word
thanks tyger i never knew that (and will promptly forget it in an hour or so).......oh yes red, how did you know i love nutty bread?
Two to go--I have to find these by myself.
I meant to say the first FOUR letters of the ly6 nut
6 minutes red
everyone with sense does!!!
Oooh Dorens, I might had a problem with that...
and she did.
I'll clue it if you like, mom. I did for her
as I am engrossed in television.
thanks Tyger, I got it from your earlier clue
yvw

i have enough trouble playing and chatting. watching too???
but I have finished grid so just chatting.

And I am done. I haven't had fireworks in a few days. OK, I am off to make and eat a salad and become a zombie in front of the one-eyed monster.
daily I am paying attention to.
yay scrabs!!!
hello, multitaskers, I am babbling, listening to Rachel Maddow, and checking email in between - not finding my last 7 words, though

I have never seen the Daily Show
congrats to all the finishers!
oh mom, it is a treat!!! my second addiction after babble
Not yet, LOL. different show I guess but probably same interview.
until tonight when I saw just a little bit of it
Well, its only a treat if you are somewhat liberal.
TY for dark chocolate, Mom. Happy Halloween!
is it, Dorens?
no red. the flowers in the mouth... that is last nite's show
and to you as well, Scrabbler
it is on every nite at 11-- competing with news shows.. and yes, it is certainly somewhat liberal
DId he talk about the high speed car chase in FLorida?
but he does treat conservatives, republicans, etc with the utmost respect, and always finds their books "fascinating"
ah, usually in bed at 11
I'm beginning to feel sleepy. think I'd better go start working on dinner
here's a coincidence - my last word for fireworks was yu 4/8 - and I just had that for dinner tonight
oh yes, and the pot smoking moms?
love the daily show! i have a friend who records it for me, since i don't have cable 8-)
lol Dorens
oh gosh, I AM watching last nights show...Have not seen any pot smoking moms.
that is funny jbv
thanks for the help, Tyger. Good to see you again
Wow JBV I did not know you could eat Yu4...

seen a little of rachel maddow show. mostly listen on radio
I don't watch her, JBV
red, yu 4 is like a potato, we have it boiled or in stews, some people fry it
I thought I had missed it...
really? I thought it was a plant like an aloe plant. now I feel a little not smart.
i have eaten it in puerto rico
not sure what the plant looks like, but the root is the edible part
Now must google, but Barack is on...
yes, a staple of the Puerto Rican diet

pam....had you not seen it?
Wow Lady!
well, i have a tiara at school. i use it to tell the kids not to "bug" me when i'm assessing a student. but i think i'm going to make a crown. will look more queenly.
i record it every nite, in case i fall asleep, and watch it when i wake up
My Mom and I used to make my costume each year...
don't know if that's a clue or not... but her friends are dressing as the Queen of Hearts, the Mad Hatter, and the White Rabbit (they are in high school)
Nope, red... Don't always watch should DVR it...

My sisters child was a bear for years because he fit the costume for a long time.
he wanted it. he's picked his last 2 costumes. wanted to be a wizard when he was 3, this year decided he wanted to be a ghost.
I made our boys their costumes each year. How I miss it.

hi again everyone!

hey LBD!
drat missed dc again
hi Pam, HI STIDDY!!
how's school going, stid?
huh this whole time I thought the yl babblet was a hebrew letter
blah. school. blah. I have a short paper to write and another 20 pages to read... and research to do if I can stay awake.
nope, dan... sounds like it could be but it ain't 8-)
yl 4: "the initial substance of the universe from which all matter is said to be derived"
ahh, the life of a student. (((HUGS)))
and, it is Middle English from the Greek...
I am almost ready to give up, LBD... I was sick last weekend so fell behind in the reading and having trouble catching up.
sorry, with some Latin, too....
get with a classmate and study buddy the missed info.
but I have good classmates, and we work together to keep each other's spirits up. Glad this is not a competitve school
Oh, stid, I hope you can get caught up...
you can do it stid!
oh, I haven't missed anything LBD ... just not able to keep up with the very demanding reading material.
usually reading isn't a problem. but some chapters might as well be in russian.
ya nye ruskavarivu parruski... (which is one of two russian sentences I can say)
read it into a tape recorder than listen to it throughout the day
THAT did it!. The flower I know. I also hels to start with the right letter! Thanks
no, I am not an auditory learner, LBD. Not actually visual, either, unless I know something about the subject first. Which I don't. very challenging.
go hoot go!!!!
I have the first and last nu6, can anybody clue the other 2?
which class is this stid
lectures are all but useless, despite extensive note-taking.
change last letter of the first nu 6 to a consnonant
the third nu 6 is plural center of a cell
dan they all work off the nu5.16 except for the fist 6.24
*first*
the program is microbial ecology... 16 credit integrated program including microbiology, environmental questions, a lab and some reading.
firewords
YAY hootowl!!!!! :-D
wtg hootowl
hi all! just finished myself...
extreme chog lag. whoooohoooooo HOOT!!
tx stid and all cluers. firewords here too!
stid that sounds horrible. What's the finak degree?
whoooo hoooo PAV
so hoot -- if Woulf is about 30 now... that makes you... 29 still? *trying to do math in head*
tytyty
I have my bachelor's already, I need the components of this class to qualify for an endorsement to teach elementary school.
I will apply for a Master's in Teaching program for next year.
He never admitted his age? tsktsktsk
That os one hell of aclass to teach kids!
is
And I did not say TO teach kids
I am not sure why Washington requires 16 credits in science classes for elementary teachers, but no literature or grammar classes.
nuts I can't talk or think straight tonite
that just doesn't speak well for the school system IMHO
s'okay, hoot, I am retyping every third word myself.
Well that explains why they can't put a coherent sentence together or fill out a job application anyway!
it is because our schools in general greatly lag in science... i suspect they are more concerned that teachers are not prepared as well to teach these
well, eled teachers teach a little of everything, so they have to be diversified in their education...
and yet I cannot count the number of teachers who cannot write a note to parents that is error free...
I am sure, kje, but why not have many subjects, including literature, grammar...
I bet stid took lit classes as part of her prerequisites
reedin' and rytin an rithmatix,
I understand the panic over lack of achievement in science -- but Math is more fundamental and being able to communicate clearly more so in daily life.
Yes. Just watch Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader. But that stuff seems a bit too too for el students
actually, I never took an actual "literature" class as an undergrad, but took a children and adolescent lit class this summer as a prereq for teaching middle school humanities.
maybe they thing (they being admin) if you could read the books and write the papers, you automatically know how to write notes to parents?
Oh nuts - even when I was in schiool they never made any big deal about "real" stuff. Maybe to the boys.........
really stid... no english 101 or 102
one of the schools here is teaching math in segregated classes.
that might be it, LBD... but my gut feeling is that the requirements were invented by politicians, rather than experienced teachers -- or by employers who know what they need in workers.
if it were employers it would be mandatory speech classes! and maybe some social skills
well... I "comped out" of those with an AP test; there was a "Great Works" class as a freshman, I suppose. It was dreadful. And more interested in philosophy and history than literature.
well, if you comped out... they were there, most others would have to take them
yes, I meant "also not" written or informed by employers. *sigh* even I am not clear tonight.
It would make too much sense to let educators decide what to teach. No child left behind screwed it up even more than those stupid rating tests they have to take! Teaching to a test NEVER works!
oh hoot... don't get me started! *Tom grabs on and pulls me off soapbox*
i have 2 sisters and a brother in law in education, they all had to take the usual english, math prereqs
i have a family of educators and we all had to take english, math, science and then our specialty classes.
But they are minimal kje. By the way - ready for another recipe?
Were those pre-reqs for getting the basic degree -- or endorsements to become a teacher? because many colleges have distribution requirements that don't necessarily align with state endorsements
last nu6 anyone?
n+ not aunt, shir
last nu 6: Bob's your nu****
so are their science and math courses... the science and math for elemntary ed majors are extremely basic
thx stidmama
When I was in school there were essay questions on tests. NOT just english either. When Woulf was in school it was multiple choice. STUPID!
pre-reqs for the most part, the education classes also included science, math and literature, depending on the age group
and I MUST get back to studying this microbiology that is so difficult. *grumpy mama look* hoot, there is a place for multiple choice, and a place for essays, I am not a fan of "all or nothing" in most areas.
multiple choice...the answer to quick testing. use a template and you've cut out the reader, and the human factor. not to mention the cost of the reader
Oh this wasn't all or nothing. But essays do tend to require more thinking.
thinking and organization in thought! not to mention, spelling, grammar and penmanship
I would like to see children learn to write a good paragraph in response to questions by the end of high school... there are some good "essential learning" standards in Washington state now that are addressing the lack of literacy and writing skills.
I loved microbiology. It will be fun once you get the hang of it stid.
actually in texas now, you don't need a degree in education... you can sit for a teacher's license after having majored in most things... say history, or math, etc... for elementary they make them take some additional education theory courses, but not for the upper levels... response to te shortage of teachers
I hope so, hoot. I love the teachers (one caught my second son when he was born, the other is a garden and compost guy who is my advisor for the quarter)
I was reading some comments on a story about ACORN on Google tonight. The grammer and spelling is a shining example of what not to do!
Sounds like texas is fulfilling the if you can't do, teach, model...
i think they are fulfilling the we need a warm body test
Montana was doing something similar, KJE. to encourage those in industry to try their hand at teaching. problem was, the industry people adjusted the information to include what industry people need to know, not the "fluff"
unfortunately, the teacher shortage is spreading... the requirements they place on teachers, combined with large class sizes, decreasing funds for materials and supplies, and the generally poor pay rate (and requiring continuing education that is not subsidized...)
Too bad that teaching, therefore students, is becoming more undervalued as standardized testing is increasingly valued...
grammar
I spent 6 months in Texas and would never send my kids to school there. Sorry kje. But VERY behind in lots of ways.
AND -- just because you are "smart" in an area, or have job experience doesn't mean you know how to TEACH. "instruct" maybe, but not teach.
LOL, kje, "the warm body test"
;)
Hi, leslie
amen to that, stid!
Hi LA!
As a parent... even in my state which has pretty good basics I wouldn't put my kids in most public schools. We'd still be homeschooling...
(((leslieann)))
ckeller knows her grammar :)
hello
And I don't think we want to talk about violence.
Shall we talk instead about the shortage in substitute teachers?
Memphis has police called to one school or another 2-3 times a week. Not a good learning experience.
i have pros and cons with homeschooling. for the most part it's a good thing for most kids. unfortunately, there are so many that are basically not getting educated at home or at school, but instead on the streets.
That's Memphis
When Mother was ill for a couple days last year, NO sub could be found the first day... I showed up to volunteer and ended up teaching the science unit with the school librarian as "able assistant"
I hope they paid you stid
Used to be subs were a dime a dozen
oh yes, Mother was entirely skeptical when I told her we would homeschool. Where she taught, a lot of kids came into the schools as they got older (more unruly) without the basics they needed to function. The parents had just been too lazy to put the kids on the bus to school in previous years!
And they were usually awful
no.... I wasn't qualified to sub, so officially the librarian was teaching. And the next day, the sub helped me teach the lesson. That was okay though, I enjoyed the kids -- and the challenge. After teaching a science unit (and not to my Mother's class) "cold" I figure I can do almost anything.
Homeschooling is fine if you have the knowledge and patience and you make sure the kids are also socialised.
I think you can stid. You are not a bubble person.
*giggle* I remember being told that I need to put my kids in preschool to "socialize" them... the pre-schooled kids we knew were ALWAYS very poorly behaved.
Sleep well, all.... I need to get some sleep....
nite pam
except... if I don't go study, I WON'T be able to write this d4 paper that is due tomorrow!
sweet dreams Pam1
i didn't go to preschool. i was well behaved, but i did not socialize. i'm glad the nightmare of having to be around other children held off until kindergarten.
so, I am outta here, too. thanks for the chat, the support and the friendship, all. *poof*
pre-schoolers are always little animals. That's why they are put there; to be tought manners by the teacher :D
nite stid
taught
hi hurshy - Not a problem. Not all kids are ready to start school at the same time.
I was able to start kindergarden at 4. I loved it. But some are not ready until they are 6

thanks jellen, they are quite a pair
yes, my primary care phys, a D.O. as opposed to the hard medicating MD's, said it was normal..no worries, but if it's too bothersome he'd refer me to a dermatologist or generalist who could remove it in the privacy of their own office. Since he had just joined a practice after being on his own, he is no longer allowed to do such minor things...
I was waiting for someone to ask for that one. LOL!
sweeeeet, leslie!
crap i am so behind I must dash. Take care
Goodbye herinfernallady! I'll see you tomorrow maybe

G'night, Min. Sweet dreams!

jellen I'll check it out
West...spoke with my mom earlier...she and my bro went and voted today in Albuq. Here in Az, the early voting is done by mail...
night Min!
Most of my US friends and family have already voted.
Hope the information is correct. I didn't think to get an absentee ballot, but I'll be out of town.
I stopped going to the polls after they kept moving mine from school to school, and with no kids to help point the way, I just registered for the early mail in ballots...
just checked RI must be one of the four that doesn't have early voting
That's planning ahead, PAV!
we used to vote absentee all the time when husband was in the Navy didn't know we could still do it
on the evening news people said they waited in line 3 to 4 hours that's not exactly easier
pav, love your cartoon lol
I voted with an absentee ballot..
Hi, ruru!
funny cartoon, pav, lol
sweet dreams, Min and congrats on your firewords
hi jellen .. hi everyone
lour
hi ruru
nice halloweenie icon jilli..very cute
hi ru, i'm waiting for you to finish the come back. Hi TIM!!
well, hello timmy!
hi
hi tim and ruru
sorry about that
come back to?
Hi, th!
going to try to find a good icon
brb too!
long time, timmy -- where ya bin?
just expected there to be a funny ending to your voting absentee.
... oh sorry .. I will try and think of something..
hi ruru!
well... I guess absentee is the way to go these days.. since we have had 8 years of an Absentee president...aka... Mr. Vacation boy..
busy i guess
howzat lb
?
lately i just babble for a short time before sleeping
nothing like a lousy grid to put ya to sleep I hear ya..
oh well, better than nothing, timmy
yeah
ditto, ruru
too true, ruru
icon check...
i try to stay awake to finish but it never happens
I'm here in the same room even, but I'll be mopping the floors...the poopies have their grooming tomorrow and the floor's a mess!
how come "chai" is not a word???
I KNOW!!!!!!!!
Well, that didn't work out too well! Brb again.
I asked myself the same question, mark
THATS SO DUMB!
i just drank some chai an hours ago...mmmmm... chai
If yuch is a word, then chai should be
mark, "internet" isn't a word either...
yuch isn't even in the dictionary
this enable dictionary is VERY arbitrary
yeah, well..."internet" ins't in today's grid, so im not worried
lol
had to go back and read ruru's comment. yup that works! :-)
okay.. the defense rests. ...
the Internet is capitalized because it is a "system"
not sure where chai originated from but cha is japanese for tea. i'm guessing some entrepreneur added the i
hmmm, maybe -- but other proper nouns have been allowed (I've checked)
they added the I for India...
Tim's finally fallen asleep, so I can move around again. Living in cramped quarters like this is bizarre. brb (again)
well, how many words in the next grid? 430?
AHHHHHHHH no!
i think capricious is enable's middle name
in case i should fall asleep again i will say thanks for remembering me and good almost chatting with u guys again
good lord, jilli slap yourself with a barrel of fish!

We went to a costume shop today...they had ruby red shoes for sale, but not in my size. *pout*
awww I'd love some ruby slippers
but I have a ruby cat
I work at a party store we have glittery red heels..they're cute
we used to make our own Halloween dressups
Back in a bit--have to get the bedtime snacks back into the fridge down the hall.
very improvised
us too jilli witches and pirates and gypsies and clowns
Hello everyone :)
now the kids come all coordinated and even some parents are in costume
I've never bought a halloween costume, but Tim wanted to find a fake finger for a ghoulish trick on staff at the oncology office. No luck.
hello nan
Hi, nan
did the Flying Purple People-eater for my boy with a coat-hanger, purple sweater, paper toot-horn...
people come in and spend over $100 on costumes for toddlers sometimes..it's ridiculous
lol jellen that would have been a hoot
I did buy a cute Halloween top (featuring black cats) for this year though. Been doing some shopping therapy.
just hope they have siblings they can pass them down to ice
obviously every 3 yr old needs a $15 fairy wand
I still have one we paid 98c for the girls use it when they come over
One of the nurses today showed us a picture of the costume her 12 year old made for her 7 year old.
that's the way to do it get everyone in on the act
One mother had a great idea for her 2 kids, shown on Canada am the other morning: matching hats, tees and leotards with tails and a carboard circles on the chests that read thing 1 and thing 2 - really cute
Her daughter's class has a Project Runway type competition each month.
sounds really cute nan
jellen I wouldn't have done well in that class
That does sound cute, nan.
g'morning everyone
