we went to Ameland, me and 4 lady friends. Spent a mid week in a cottage with a sauna, a swimming pool and the like. We had a very relaxing time.

we did have a lot more chickens, but then it turns out we had a weasel in the neighborhood - boo. It could have been a little more discretionary at least, and eaten the bitchy menopausal chickens, but no - it took the lovely rooster, and some of the younger hens.

OH someone left this hard wood (dark wood solid) broken mirror frame at a demolition site and I took it. Its a simply amazing piece.

Silverclaw had horrid food issues for a year or so, everything we fed her, she just threw straight back up. Eventually *eventually* we found something that she seems to be able to keep down, at least 9/10 times. hurray!

Started out with Walter pulling a power trip: I asked which way he wanted to go to school, and he shouted, "Do not ask me that!" so I said that I would have to choose which way if he didn'. He said yes. SO of course I picked "the wrong way", and delivered a livid and crying boy to school. But that is all of course par for the course at this age and I remained sanguine with a touch of "well it's your own fault" throughout. He cheered right up after I left, of course.

Then at work my boss sang along wioth all my radio tunes, only off key, two words off, and in Dinglish. And loudly. Later, I left work and after half a block the bakfiets (cargo trike, and my only means of transportation) suddenly just went to deep, deep sand mode and made a kerchunk-scrape-clang noise every revolution. I got off and found that the back tire wasn't flat-- it had suffered a total separation. Both ends of the inner tube were sticking out of the outer tire at completely different locations. Further inspection revealed that part of the brake pad assembly had come loose and jammed itself between the outer tube and the rim. I have absolutely no idea whether it is just loose or actually broken, but I do suspect the former-- nonetheless I am not sure if it's even worth finding out, what with the whole axle assembly already rocking back and forth and all, already a sure sign of imminent no-work-anymore-ness. It might just mean spending a whole lot of money to use the bakfiets for a couple more weeks. As some may recall the best bakfiets people in the province have told me not to try to get it repaired anymore, it's too far gone.

So I started pushing it. As fast as I could go. After half an hour I had made the train station, and I realized there was no way I could go on with my back the way it is, and further that even if I could I would never be on time to get Walter-- I had 20 minutes. So I started to call my neighbor Sarah, intending to ask her if she could call Jennifer, who lives by the school and whose number I do not have, and ask her to get Walter and take him to her house. It rang once and my phone went black. I knew my battery was low but it hadn't been beeping so I had no idea it was THAT low! Anyway, then I had no access to Sarah's number even if I could borrow a phone, so I had no choice and I took a taxi (E10) to Walter's school. Then we walked home from there. It took an hour. Then I found that Saskia has chewed up my rarest orchid (the miniature Phalaenopsis). I do not think I can save it, but of course I will try.
There are other details like I decided to bring the work orchid home to save it and so had a heavy glass pot with me, and also that I decided not to go out of our way to see if we could get a bus to Overveen (near home) but then when we were almost to Overveen that bus overtook us-- and AS IT PASSED US one of its tires blew out! That was pretty darned scary, I tell you.

the story apparently is that they were fostered by someone for the local rescue. rescue found out she's been keeping them in an abandoned car.
