west, there's a special box where if you type one word it goes into Lickety's list and more than one word goes into the chat. If you want to put a single word inthe chat you hit Ctrl and Enter (I think that's Ctrl and Return in macspeak)

there's a lot more included in Expert -- sending words to babble and vice versa, and a Resources menu with a link to morewords and A2Z -- and there used to be a link to icon themes but that's out of date now, unfortunately. My guess, and it is only a guess,is that she didn't cast a wide enough net....plus there is a fiar degree of "networking"to be done even with the shortage.
I know she was looking into doing what you did but she'd have to have a few years experience under her belt
It costs about 50K to train a new grad, they require a lot of help, so, most places are trying to hire anyone who can function reasonably well without.
Going Overseas? it doesn't pay, and I would reccommend at least 5 years.

I didn't realize you went overseas no I was talking about being a travelling nurse or whatever it's called
I have been working with a Senior nursing student since June, and I don't think I realized how much they require...but it is distressing.
Oh yes, oops. I forgot about the travelling. Right now is not a good time anyway to be a traveller, less jobs, asking formore experience. Also as an "older" person, she needs to look very carefully, travelcompanies typically give horrid insurance.
she's a quick study and has the advantage of being older but you basically learn by doing
so not so much of an advantage then
plus she has animals lol
As a traveller, you really have to be able to walk into a new place and take care of patients, without asking any questions, not a good place fora new grad...as it isnt alearning environment at all...

I found out on Wed. I have a large mass in may pelvis. It is being removed Wed. If it is cancer I will require chemo. We have a parrot. I had read some time ago that chemo might leach thru the skin, and would be toxic to my bird. Can you comment on that? Thanks My vet is on vacation & I don't know if he will be back in time to help

Really depends on the specific drugs they use, which will be determined by the type of tumor. i'd ask your doctor for more information on excretion of the chemo they choose.

well. so much for that. i don't know of any drugs specifically that would leach through the skin though; most should be excreted in urine or feces.

radiation treatment, depending on what it is, might be a concern...but most radiation treatments for tumors aren't actually putting a radioactive substance in you, so unless they're doing something like radioactive iodine for a thyroid tumor.... i don't think it'd be a concern.
thanks Jes, I will email him and ask. I have checked the web extensively, and there is only one reference to this problem . It was anecdotal, not scientific, and not even a personal experience, just something someone had heard
i don't know off hand of any drugs that'd be a specific issue, but is there someone else who can care for the bird for a few days after each treatment, just to be safe?

When the radiologist saw my scans he told me immediate action was required.
try to find out which drugs in particular they're planning to use, and give a call to whatever veterinary teaching hospital is closest to you. they should have an oncology department that would be able to answer to any concerns
i found a lump in my breast friday night. i have to call for an appt tomorrow. i am a 15 year survivor so know what i could be in for.

The onco-gurus would know a lot more than me about the specific chemo drugs

most of the time with chemo animals, our big concern was handling vomit and/or urine after a treatment, not so much skin contact...

Oh bummer, joey -- I had a lumpectomy in 2000 and colon cancer in 2002. Annual diagnostic mammograms are clear so far... virtual colonoscopies ok too ( can't have real one due to surgery aftereffects of narrowing
i just wish i were still in PA where i had the first surgeries done. starting over with new doctors is not what i wanted to do

My vet's cover Dr, said he would be more concerned on my behalf, with the immunosuppressant issues of chemo . Our bird sees the vet regularly, and has a clean bill of health
bethn, amazing you're more (as much?) concerned about your parrot than about yourself
well, there're always concerns with immuno-suppression. might not hurt to run a psittacosis test on him just to be super-sure, but there are not a lot of things humans and animals pass back and forth
I must go now and get my supper. No appetite :(
basic things like washing your hands frequently and not sharing food with the bird should cover most of it
There is nothing I can do for me, but I can protect Jazz . His psit. test came back clean last month
