ditto that
fireworks
gratz dee
ty so much
how have you been feeling sprite?
have been struggling with disappointment and despair for a bit, because they cannot find the cause for my loss of feeling in my feet. But am getting myself together again. Realised when doing the Hanukkah icon and text that miracles do happen. I will hope for one!
so sorry to hear about the neuropathy; that can certainly be maddening; do stretches or chiropractic visits help at all; I absolutely believe God can perform miracles, so always a time for hope :)
same here, and being hopeful is a good attitude in life, I believe. Firmly. Will see my doctor on Monday and physiotherapist on Wednesday, I hope they have some ideas on how to proceed.
I bet they will have some new things to try!
I bet. I have one thing going for me: I never give up. So we'll get there, somehow. How've you been, Dee?
bad fall for rheumatoid; starting on prednisone for a bit; then may have to change my meds, but we had a fantastic Thanksgiving with my brother, daughter, hubby, daughter's boyfriend, and her new dog... it was so much fun
missing my brother a lot since he left, but looking forward to daughter being home Christmas Eve and Day
really sorry to hear the rheuma is worse, I hope the prednisone will do what it can and skip most of the side effects. And wonderful about the Thanksgiving. Doesn't it make one grateful to be able to share so much fun and love?
have had so many friends dealing with illnesses and a few deaths, so know what it is like to feel despair
so true
morning all..volley...can i make a suggestion for your rheumo
a dear friend of ours died this week, same age as my husband... massive heart attack; he was such a great guy... we'll really miss him
sure
despair is part of the process, I tell myself. It is ok, but not to linger in - after a few good cries it is time for the virtual kick in the ass and to move on :)
agree sprite... need to live daily in peace and joy
oh I am so sorry :( Sudden losses are sometimes the hardest to cope with.
hi rolin :)
i have been thru 3 diff. meds..including prendisone...and my miracle drug..that ive been on for 3 year is methatrexate...it has given me my life back
hey sprite
wow rolin, that is great. So happy for you!
have taken methotrexate since 1996... that is the one that may need to be increased; it is a great med, for sure
do you take weeking rolin?
weekly?
oh ok.... yup..once a week...and the other thing i found did a lot of good was acupuncture
how many tabs do you take each week?
i take 20mg a week
checking my dosage....
isn't it great that on the start of Hanukkah the grid holds OL5/16 - 6/27?
hanukkah or not..ol5&6 is good yum..
true, but I like the timing.
maybe i should make a hannukah pizza...
i could cut nit into 8 slices..lol
I wouldn't mind! Can you put a part in the sin bin? Am willing to pay a word to get in...
ty rolin... I may need an increase then... only taking 5 tabs of 2.5 mg each (12.5)... nice to know your dosage, so if it is increased to 20 I won't panic; ty very much for the info!
lol..i just thought i could use a round biscuit cutter to cut our the centre...for the shamesh...and then cut 8 slices from the rest...ooooooh i can see it happening in my playroom next week..
wonderful idea! Go for it, rolin.
np...volley...i sed to take 12.5...then went to 15...now twenty...but with the acupuncture ...im looking to cut back to 15 again
That is nice to know indeed Dee, good to know that rolin has taken it for 3 years and still is enthusiastic about it.
isnt the net wonderful...we can meet ppl in similar circiumstances and share our experiences
have wondered about acupuncture; I have fibro, and I thot it might help that. For sure sprite! I started out with 4 x 2.5; moved up to 5... so it may be time for an increase and looking into the acup...
it sure does help
it is a marvel. Sharing and supporting is mondial now, or can be.
think it is particularly helpful coming from a real person with same or similar experience (rather than just physicians)
volley...i had chinese (not western) acupuncture 3 months ago..he stuck a mass of needles in 3 times over 6 days...so pretty intensive..its lasted a blissful 3 months...and i can still kneel... something i hadnt been able to do for years...took away the cotton wool feeling in my knees
wow
oh yes! It is what I tell my doctors nowadays: you have the experience from the doctor side, and I from the patient side. let's combine our strengths.
definitely sprite
yeah...only an arthritis sufferer can get excited about the prospect of being able to kneel..lol
lol so very true
well I need to get going; busy day - getting hair colored YAY and daughter coming for the nite...
thx again rolin for sharing!
lol rolin, well I could too, actually. But I know what you mean. It takes having handicaps to really bless being without it, or being limited less by it.
np...
bye Dee
Hope your health improves sprite!!
hugs to all
*poofing*
thanks Dee, have a good day
hey sprite theres another pizza ingredient there too
off the same o..
yyummmmyyyy :)
actually...i think they start nearly every dish i make..lol
not sweet dishes...obviously
they, and garlic. Just the smell of that and I can eat.
yup...me too... i REALLY have to live in italy..
oh dear I shouldn't. I'd be 300 kg before I knew it...
".... Lo-la..... lalalala Lo-la..." I tried it at least 4 times. It isn't valid!
i want saloon...but it just isnt there
I know! But so far I have 2 words with that ending.
Vollee - you still there?
Dee left quite a while ago, Soodle
Ah, just noticed she poofed.
yeah, it isn't always easy to find things back in chat... we are prolific :)
I just caught the end of the chog - she mentioned methotrexate - Is that the psoriasis drug, or am I mistaken?
no they use it against rheumatoid issues, I gathered.
Ah! I was prescribed that for chronic psoriasis! I thought there may have been a fellow 'flaker' on babble. Lol!!
it's used for a lot of things. Cancer and autoimmune diseases are another two.
hehehe there might be, but not those two, I believe. Does it work for you?
I think its akin to chemo!
However, my psoriasis just laughed at it.... :(
finally fireflies, must be off. Bye :)
Hey, I'm just telling what I know. I don't actually take it!
Sprite - I hope your condition improves! Bye
I've got to be off to bed too. I'm nowhere near done but I am TIRED! G'night
Nite Sam
looking in...soodle...i take methatrexate for psoratic arthritis...
shall i start a facebook page called...'flakers unite'??..lol
Hello, All :-)
morning zooz
Hope the snow is not too bad where you are Blue..i have seen it on the tv..looks bad on your side of the pond.
we had about 7 inches here, plus wind storms. We were without power and phones for 24 hours. Alot of trees down.
how's your weather?
oh, no that sounds terrible, wrap up warm....here, starting to get a bit colder, but nothing much compared to you.
although here on the isle of wight, if we get 1/2 inch of snow everything comes to a stand still..lol
sounds like Washington DC! lol
-2 °F (-19 °C) Wind Chill: -20 °F (-29 °C)
lol, it is mad how some places can cope very well, and others cannot, i suppose it just depends if you are used to it & are more prepared.
Brrr BR
good day for a brisk walk
Hello BR, chilly where you are then.
that will warm you up!!.....maybe
yep, my hammock is creaking
lol
hahahaha...i like that
my bones are creaking
sounds like me..well my back at least.
just four or five months and spring will be here
Whoohoo!!
sounds not too bad when you say it...but to live it..well thats a different story...feels more like ten months..lol
For sure zooz
Good morning from Snowstorm Central, southeast of Buffalo.
Hello, Scrabs, hope you are keeping warm also.
hey scrabbs...what you get, we get..over inNewHampshire.
can't wait...lol
16 degrees F here. Over 1 foot of snow with more falling rapidly. Schools all around are closed for 2nd day.
did you batten down the hatches?
Radar map is impressive. I think we shall skip our tennis match this morning--not worth driving in the risky conditions.
Hatches are battened down, Captain! Aye, aye.
viet
I took the bait, kanet, and ...rejected.
very close Kanet.
<ahem> wrong box...and not a word. haha
change the last letter
i was going to mention it's 17F (-8C) here in pittsburgh. won't complain considering the company
thanks zooz.. i got that one. i haven't checked out lickety's list yet. still going it alone. 48 words down so far
Just 3 hrs south of me, Kanet. I am 35 miles south of Buffalo.
same here, although i have 107 more to find :-(
Welcome to Babble Kanet--first time I have seen you here.
hi scrabs.. why you're practically a stone's throw away
thanks scrabs. i just discovered babble 2 days ago
Yes, my friend's daughter lives there--after she graduated from CMU 4 yrs ago.
usually play on wordsplay.. 3 min speed game 4x4 or 5x5
Yay for finding Babble and becoming an addict, Kanet!
haha.. yeah, it's pretty good
i can`t do the speed games , my brain just cannot compute that fast..lol
i'm trying not to get sucked in *too* much.
i dig boggle w/ my family
they usually play everyone vs. me..
i usually win
not to brag.. it's very casual
Noggin, Scramble, etc--those games get me so hyper--like Babble with crack, I suppose
lol
Then you will do well here, Kanet.
maybe. 2 days ago i had a great time but needed clues for the last.. mm.. 1/3rd maybe
Grid vary in size and difficulty.
this board is bugging me. i can't believe there are 196 words. maybe they are very esoteric words?
or maybe i haven't stared at it long enough. <shrug>
i think staring at it does not help...i find it better to walk away for a while then go back to it..i find more like that.
yeah, zooz. i do the same things w/ crosswords, games mag, etc.
51 words. 26% there. : )
And you will encounter/learn MANY weird words, Kanet, that you will have no use for except in word games/puzzles
how true that is Scrabs.
g'morning, everyone.
Hello, Specificity
morning spec
scrab, very true.. in fact, that's one reason i came here. the speed games are too fast to learn new words, even when i skip every other game
and i'm "training" for an xmas scrabble tournament w/ friends
Hi Specificity
hi kanet and spec
The words you learn here definitely help in Scrabble. I tell my friends, when I play an odd word, "I learned it from Babble."
hi blue
hiya everyone
Hi MM
Helllo, MM :-)
hi movi
hello
huh. I wish I could use babble words in Scrabble. The only person who will play with me is my Mum, and she has the official Scrabble dictionary from way back in the day... doesn't have a lot of the words in Babble, and she loves to challenge me!
clue for the 8 pretty plz.....;)
babble seems very generous w/ the dictionary.
do8...spells almost like the game you play with dots
my family uses webster's unabridged when we play boggle. my sis loves to make up words. i've learned a lot of words from her guesses. haha
thanks zooz
another clue, zoo?
yw Blue
doos
sorry
the definition is` A schoolmaster` or a cleric
Spec, you can play Scrabble on line. Many of us play via Facebook.
scrabbs, is afacebook app?
Scrab, I used to, but now I have dial up where I live - no high speed available! makes it frustrating.
Yes, Scrabble is FB app.
can't type this morning, not enough coffee
got it zoo, using a thesaurus, ty
yw MM :-)
that was the plural though so don`t forget the do7 :-)
are you under the same name Scrabbs?
Nope, I use my real name, but there is a Babblers group with all of our real + Babble names.
clues for the bottom o plz
how do I join?
oo6 oo+li4
then plural
li4 not heavy
Did somebody say learn new words? This is the grid to do it....
Hello, Haz :-)
hi haz
Register for FB, then search for Babblers Worldwide--you will see entries on the wall of Babblers and real names.
so what's the avg # of words? 2 days ago it was 99. i thought that was plenty.. ; ) hi haz
Good morning/evening all.
Hello, kanet, welcome to babble.
I have seen 2 grids > 500 words.
thanks scrabbs
There really isn't an average number of words - it can range from 40s right up to more satisfying numbers in the hundreds.
ta zoo
yw
This isn't a particularly big grid, but lots of strange, scratch your head type words.
i like them around 250-300 area
feels a mathematical need to point out that there is still an AVERAGE - perhaps not a NORM
morning hurshy
morning
Point conceded. I know better than to quibble with mathematics.
Hello, Hurshy
hello all.
Hi Haz + Hurshy
Hello, Scrabbler.
ok. i guess i shouldn't be surprised. do you always finish? i got about 2/3 done my first time before needing hings. this time i'm about 1/3 and running out of gas. morning hursh
it gets easier the longer you play. in the beginning of your babble life you need to be very stubborn.
kanet - I do finish, but not without help from other resources than my own vocabulary.
20 v words!!! I didn't know that many existed
hi chris
Hello chris, i know ..thats what i amtrying to work on now..lol
greetings blue
Hello, Chris.
and haz!
sorry zoozzoom didn't see you there
My favourite v is the vi6 - Just William's simpering enemy.
np :-)
hi Chris
hi scrabbler
hi chris. quite the uk contingent this time of day
Strains of Rule Britannia in the background.
(some of us are wannabes)
hi kanet - just taking a break. have been doing some gardening and still have leaves to mow up
lol
hurshy.. in pa?
Yes, at times I long to live in the UK, perhaps the Lake District where I could kayak and hike.
nope, new england.
Unfortunately, due to the flooding in Cumbria this year, the Lake District is pretty much awash. You could kayak through the towns never mind on the lakes.
ok, thought it might be a play on hershey
What about you, kanet, where are you from?
sometimes people do think that.
how rude of me.. pittsburgh, pa
I suspected you were American, but we'll forgive you for that.
haha
ok 50 more to find ..taking a break, bbl
gm class
Go pro, Kanet--money well spent!
See you later, zooz.
Bye Zooz
well.. i try my best to get out & about. just spent 4 months traveling through asia & europe.. later zooz
Good morning, Miss Jean.
:-)
Good morning, Esprit.
Are we having a surprise quiz today, Miss Jean? And extra recess time because it's Friday?
scrab.. i'm thinking about it. it's only been 3 days. just want to make sure it's not a phase. what's the benefit of going pro?
morning jean
Teacher's pet....
no quiz today just TGIF
You have two weeks to decide if it's just a phase, kanet, after that you lose the tile stats and fireworks on completion.
If you don't go pro you will lose the stats below the grid and word entry list. Another benefit = flag.
to clarify - haz wasn't doing the europeans-hate-america thing, just the general rivalry, my-team-is-superior thing. in case anyone was confused.
I think the vast majority of people who go pro don't regret it, but it's up to yourself, you can play the game for free any time.
I agree . . . go pro
Exactly, hurshy, I should have pointed out that I was using tongue in cheek font. Sometimes I use the understatement font, much beloved of Brits.
I have been here daily since Aug 1, 2006 and I went pro on my first night here.
seems like a reasonable deal. i like low-cost lifetime subscriptions
don't try to resist the force
you have already been drawn into the magnetic field
haz.. i suspected as much : )
jean.. no profile pic?
you paid for it. lol
I don't know how to do it
Don't anybody mention the addiction word. I think we have kanet hooked and ready to reel in.
scrab.. you are an addict's addict
Darn. kanet mentioned the addiction thing herself.
haha.. yeah, i know the drill ; )
hello all. kanet--this is my fifth day and it's turning out not to be a passing phase, sadly
someone once described babble as the Eagles, Hotel California - you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave
as addictions go, this one is most benign
haz.. correction: himself
I keep saying that it's only a mild attachment.
Excellent. I'd make a good interrogator, we now know that kanet is male and from Pittsburgh.
it's a harmless obsession
nobody gets hurt
Now to find out if he's rich and handsome....
as i mentioned, i just got home after traveling for 4 months. i quit my job to travel. no work yet. so handsome though i may be.. no income ; )
and lots of time for online games. don't know how much longer i can keep tha tup
but this is certainly an inviting environment
if you are handsome enuf you could become a gigolo
What job did you quit?
because otherwise the job market here sux
almost "viciously" inviting, if that makes sense.. haha
Hmm, male, 3 hrs away, are you single and near by age of 50, Kanet?
gigolo.. good work if you can get it
single: yes. age: 32
Good Morning Babblers :) I have just a few minutes to play before hubby gets up
hence the 77!
i quit a software developmer job at a bio-tech startup company
morning nanette
good eye, hursh
chloroform wearing off Nono?
So much for Scrabbler's attachment to George. One metnion of a single man and he's forgotten.
good morning everyone
Watch out, Nono, Scrabs is stalking kanet!
it's my year too :)
Hello, Nono.
Good morning, all!
*mention
Good morning, JBs.
kanet if you want another pleasant addition try on line scrabble at ISC.com
play one on one with people from all over the world
Hi Nono and JB
thanks for the tip, jean
hi JBs
if u go there, I am jeanius421
Alas, kanet, you are too young for me. I am just too mature for you, hahaha
This chog is so full of drammer - love, loss, glee...hmm, those four letter words are *almost* in the grid!
scrabs, had Demi Moore taught us NOTHING!?
reading thru the chop I gather you are new to babble, Kanet. Welcome to the land of babble
* chog
true, nanette.
Scrabs, how much snow?
getting peer pressured into going pro
{{{Scrabbler, Haz, Nono, Hursh!}}} Hi, Esprit! Welcome, kanet!
not to mention hit on left and right
morning jbs
kanet, it took me 4 months to go pro, never regretted it
i don't believe in peer pressure.
yeah, jean.. it's nice being the new kid on the block ; )
i mean, i believe it exists... you know what i mean.
And think of this, kanet, when you travel again, you'll have people all over the world who would welcome you to visit!
But, do remember, Kanet, that it's entirely up to you. We don't get commission on new pro sign-ups or anything like that.
I went pro just days after losing the tile stats. Its worth the small fee just to keep them
until some other handsome, young guy comes along.. some guy who knows 20 v words
you could couch surf your way around the world
hursh, what *do* you believe in?
huh? 20 v words? no way!
<grin>
logic
We have well over a foot of snow with over 1 foot more expected by tomorrow morning. Check out www.weather.com and look up Springville, NY
jean.. good plan. i couch surfed across the us in 2007. 10,000 miles, 10 wks. good trip
i have an easier time finding v words than g words :P
Nono, this is the sort of grid where imagination takes over.
dang Scrabs. I would say your plowing fee has paid itself already this year for clearing out that mess
All the snow melted in Philadelphia, now we have 27F degree weather with just a bit of a cold breeze
I learned about that from my son, who lives in china
if i stick around 2 wks i'm sure i'll go pro
Hurshy, what is your Myers-Briggs type? I am an INTJ--been doing some more reading on that stuff recently, in order to try to understand my weirdness.
doesn't it almost always Haz?
but i suspect this is a peak of activity till i find a job. then, who knows
embrace your weirdness scrabs
Today more than some other days, Nono.
My driveway was plowed out yesterday and at 0530--woke me up.
INFJ i think... but some are towards the middle.
i spend too much time at a keyboard. i'm more into outdoor activities...except when it's so cold outside
Kanet you will still find yourself stopping to play babble each day if only for a few minutes
Scrabs--I'm an INTJ too--i think that explains a lot!
kanet, I usually manage to play every day, and it's worth it!
how much time do you typically spend on a board?
<pondering> if only Meyers-Briggs types were usable in the grid...
Aha, Jay, then our brains are similar. What a relief to know someone like me.
it depends on how much time I have sometimes I play on and off thru the day others I am only here for a bit in the morning
Usually 2 hours, but not all at once. I can access it on wireless from work, and I play at lunch to finish the grid.
isn't it? there aren't a lot of intjs
It depends, kanet, not just on the size of the grid, but on how much time I spend chatting or giving clues.
Some of the players can whizz through these things but they're on steroids.
I think we are in the smallest group, Jay.
yeah, this is pretty chat-heavy. (uh.. sorry)
and Haz is an excellent clue giver!
the other group i'm in is the one that has to go to meetings--off now with only 62 done
I've done the grid, but I think many of them are going to be seriously difficult to clue.
So true, Haz, sometimes I spend more time in the chog than on the grid
bye Jay
later jk
Bye, Jayk.
Speaking of work, gotta go get ready. Good to see you all this morning, welcome again, kanet! I'll expect to see you next with an icon and a flag! 106 to go. Bye! *poof*
Bye JBs.
have a good day JBs
yes, I need to get back to mowing up my leaves. 78 to go
thanks, jb. later
bye Chris
later, chris
I'm going to join in the exodus, I need to get on with chores etc. I'll hopefully get back later. Nice to meet you, kanet and bye for now!
Bye Haz
Bye!
later haz
Hubby is up guess i better go too. Be back later
later nan
Bye exiters
I have found just 68 words--where are the other 128?
i'm stuck at 69
Kanet, scroll down to below the word stats, to Friends of Babble, to Lickety's Babble Clues--an invaluable aid!
thanks, scrabs. i know about it. after a couple of hours of seeing things like to5/12 i had to ask where people got that info
is there any way to rotate the board? or do i need to go pro? ; )
rotating is not an option
Unfortunately! Hello all
morning lynxx
hmm.. not sure if it's worth the $14.95. ; ) hi lynx
Not even 2 cents per day for me - well worth it for a couple of hours relaxation.
Scrabs, got a ? for you. What are the chances of HIV or HepB/C being transmitted by 2 oz of breast milk given to the wrong child at daycare?
s
Good morning! ... ah, a grid we can sink our teeth into.
hi Bichon & Dorens & Merk
!
Bichon, I am unsure--go to cdc.gov to research
Doren, are you on your new netbook with Babble Expert?
good morning and sorry for that (scrabs..trying to fit babble expert into this tiny screen)
My grandson's breast milk was given to the wrong baby and now the mother, understandably, is going ballistic
does his mother HAVE these things?
My d.i.l doesn't have any of these things, as far as she knows. She had the tests when pregnant some moths ago
well then.
Doren, I have formatted it just right for me.
good morning everyone;)
can you fit in the chog, the gride and the clues together?
Hi Crossy! How much snow do you have now?
hi Cross
snow banks beside the roads are 2 feet high, wax up your skis scrabbs;)
morning crossy
Yes, Doren, but clue column must be narrowed in order to see chat log
I think that I will cross-country ski + snowshoe today and the weekend!
phantom "vintage"
It is gorgeous here with all of this snow--over 1 ft and more falling heavily.
what is blue column? i think i've narrowed as much as i can, but i guess there is more to do..
morn cross
anyone got the lower 2 o's?
The clues to the left, Doren
ol 4 is Spanish cheer
And, Doren, stats are not visible
that's upper
oo + li4 (& pl)
oh ok. mine isn't blue. think i narrowed it as much as i can..and i'm still missing the left half of the grid. will keep at it
ty kanet :)
Clue column, not blue
lol. guess i need my coffee!
np hursh
grrr... time to go get ready for work. ttfn all.
later hursh
Bye Hursh
need to make my coffee gulp it down and get to work too;;later peeps
scrabs, what's the clue column? do i have that w/out pro acct?
bye Dorens
Lickety created a separate browser called Babble Expert that he can e-mail to you.
Hi Lynxxx
hello babble friends.
Scrabs, thank for the reference. I looked at it and it seems unlikely that HIV could be spread through breast milk
Hi Tri
hi Trif
hi tri & bic. later dorens
just inhaled a bowl of warm applesauce - heaven! my first solid food in two days (flu). a five star meal never tasted so good!
poor Trif, good to hear you are on the mend
scrabs: ah, right. i noticed that. i typically use my macbook for the larger keyboard. babb exp is only pc. i guessi could use my netbook
good morning all
Hope you didn't have H1N1
Viral gastroenteritis = quick weight loss program. I had it in October
morn ed
hi Edward
Hi Ed
poor trif, crossy,s famous hot toddy will fix you up;0
don't think so bichon - i was only sick a couple of days. bigger worry, to me, is that people I know who have had similar says it cycles around for a while - two days sick, two days well, on and on
Kanet, I have a netbook and a desktop PC.
Edward! Please enjoy my icon today, which is in your honor - that young lady is definitely NOT team edward!!!
it does indeed cycle
Go easy on your GI tract--don't drink/eat too much at one time
ugh. I really can't have that. I need to get better NOW
Snowplow is going by---loud roar
mine cycled for 11 days!!
I had that last year. Got it from my Mom and gave it to everyone I know
breakfast time, bbl
11 days!!!! no, def can't do taht
boo on that girl, she needs a good hard smackin lol
LOL edward!
I think it's good for Rpatz, however - that boy is getting a big head, I fear....
You need probiotics, Trif--yogurt or supplement, and regular diet, in order to recover the quickest
the smokes are a bummer, too.....
i was lookin at some twilight stuff an came across a sticker that said team jacob real men dont sparkle
lol
if his head gets any bigger it will burst
thanks scrabbler. the idea of yogurt right now is um...not appealing, but I will see what I can do. I have some stuff I have to put down the septic each month - maybe I will take a spoonful of that, ha ha ha
No, no, Trif, you have already been cleaned out.
i found a pill form of probiotics,2 mil units,in pill form since the wife cant eat yogurt.150 capsules for 10 dollars.1 per day
Bunny Beatrix just came hopping over to visit me, and she is standing up on back feet. So cute!
thanks crossy!
oh, that is cute, scrabbler!
made by the jameson company
And when I woke up at 0530, Bunny Sebastian was snuggled next to my head.
bunnies!
good thinking, cross.. whiskey is good medicine ; )
oh crossy, I almost forgot! secondo wrote something snarky on my FB account the other day, and tried to say she was a "beacon" in my life, but wrote "bacon" instead. thought you would like that!
indeed it it
140 down, totally stuck, that's me for the night. Bye all
Scrabs do you call him Sebby for short
trif, that's hysterical! LOL
Bye Lynxxx, see you after your sleep.
hi and bye, lynxxx :-)
night lynx
Yes, Bichon, or "my little Bastian".
hi uneal
scrabbs, this is really embarrassing, but I honestly don't know - can you get bunnies neutered?
We live in a town where there are tons of Sebastians and they are all called Sebby
hi kanet :-)
Oh, yes, it's very important to do so, and is essential to prevent uterine cancer in females
wow, really? they get uterine cancer if they are not fixed?
One of my new partners had a baby 8 wks ago and named him Sebastian. I told her that one of my bunnies is Sebastian and she was not amused.
High risk Trif. My sister lost a bunny to uterine cancer many years ago, before bunny health was well-understood.
Some things that are so amusing to us fall flat on other people
jeez louise, she needs a sense of humor! it's not like SHE invented it! my friend Amy has a son named that, and they call him Seba
poor bunny!
Yes, little bunny started having vaginal bleeding and died. So, female bunnies must get spayed and males are less hyper, aggressive if neutered. I did not have Sebby neutered because he is a little angel.
whoa, but Beatrix is, right? that is what got me going on this whole thread....you have boys and girls hopping around, and rabbits are, well, RABBITS
I had my Bisky neutered at 6 months but it didn't totally take the "boy" out of him.
lol, words are staring right at me..an american form of liquid measure
When the neighbors got a puppy a few years ago, Bisky mounted him and got an erection that wouldn't go away
anyone know anything about dogs havin seizures?
My Tucker is neutered but still quite a hyper guy.
I got Beatrix neutered as soon as I became her foster mother, even before I adopted her.
Ed, bring dog to the vet
we had a shepard long ago that was diabetic and had seiz ures, did not harm the dog and was controlled by medication
Trif, my bunnies are all segregated--Bea is alone down here, with gate at bottom of the stairs, and the boys each have a bedroom upstairs, with gates at doorways. Rabbitat = my home!
Clue for that measurement, Cross?
I am still trying to figure out how to get
Not ounce, quart
rabbitat! lol
Cinnamon bunny more exercise time - cats and rabbits, no problems. rabbit + dog = not so much
gasoliune scrabbs
you fill your car with that amount Scrabs
they put him on phenabarb(sp) but just thought there was some other natural form of treatment
Do you have a room where she can run around?
damn typos
Oh, that measurement, LOL.
I just figured that was the canadian spelling, lol
lol ..be nice trif
I was thinking cooking, baking measurements
we dont use gallons, remember,we joined the rest of the planet in metric in 1978 hehe
lol crossy
Lemmings!
crossy, off you go to the PB where there's no bacon today
lol@ lemmings, its just the states and some farmer in uraguay who are left
acck! no bacon?
columbia - juan valdez....
ahh juan,we leave him alone,he makes good coffee
indeed. I think he supplies the PB, IIRC
hi all
good day ardilla love! how are things with mr. wonderful?
morning ardilla
Hi Ardilla
hi ard
we had a fight today and he wants to take a step back and evaluate the relationship...he wants to take a break :(
I hate him for you!!!! oh dear....
so i won't see him again before i leave for 3 wks...i'm so confused sad and angry all at once
tyvm trif *hugs
I can understand why! he said all that stuff about meeting the family and all....
yep
Maybe this is not a bad thing, Ardilla--revelation of true character is crucial
he said that he doesn't want something that's long term
yes,as it came just before you had to go for 3 weeks speaks volumes from a guys perspective
I'll butt in, Ardilla. If it is meant to be, 3 weeks away will reveal that when you return.
sorry my 2 cents
I don't know the situation, but sometimes absence does make the heart grow fonder. If nothing else it can be a tough love.
crossy dives back into the grid..sploosh
my friend thinks that he's developing feelings and is scared and that he's a coward
i don't know anymore...he said that he wanted to talk to me about this for about a week but when i asked him two days ago if he wanted to go to my christmas party, he said yes. then, he tells me that stuff 2 hours before the party
oh well...i'm going to start the grid now
thanks for listening, all *hugs
(((ardilla)))
Ardilla, better to know this stuff about him now than after a marriage
any al clues?
not dead
al4 = wings; al4 = beers; al4 + 5 = green stuff growing in lakes/ponds; al4 = landed
TY, Cross--I didn't see that one

hi Nancy
Hey Nono :) how are you?

not too bad ta, sleepy, but I think I can have a bit of a go at the grid
hi nancy
my guess is you will be asleep before you get too far today
Hiya Kanet :) Nono, the eyelids are drooping already..
Kanet how are you doing with the grid? getting close to fireworks yet?
do8,50
ha! very optimistic, nan. i'm at 95
your further along than I am with 69 :)
thx bubba
pulled an all-nighter. i just want to get 1/2 way to 98 so i can take a break
Has was right about this one
NB! 2 days in a row?!
wtg Eva
Looks like we're in the same boat, Kanet. What were you up doing all night?
excuse me..err...are there any words in this grid today? lol
I know Eva, I surprise even myself :D May not be here for long though, I'm feeling the after-effects of last night: eyelids are drooping, bags under eyes...can't wait to start again tonight.
hi all
hi Crossy, They are well hidden if they are there
a few crossy
nb, nothing useful. no job at the moment. just killing time till 2010
hi jmc
no. no words today crossy. none at all!
lol kanet..welcome to my world
hi jmc
im there with ya NB, though for different reasons, im sure. i worked an extra 5 hours hours yesterday. 13-hour days are good for you, right?
anyone need any clues before I go?
im arranging to upgrade my education,go back and take some college courses
bubba, gl please?
sure Bubba how about all of them hehee
good for you Crossy!
ill probably be older that all the teachers;0
gl + vowel + what Frankensteins assistant said, "It's al***"
nothing wrong with that
then pl
I was older than most of my teachers the last time I went to school
Since 24 hour drinking is still in fashion, and I'm back tending bar..13 hour days better be good!
older students do very well
it was kinda fun
i believe Dr Who would disagree that "oods" is not a word...
gl + vegetable that makes you cry when you peel it
I wrote a paper about MLK and they asked me my source and I said ==> me
good luck, cross
gl4, la + two vowels
jmc: rotfl
lol jmc
Hardly work though, just socializing and holding competitions for which customer can walk in the straightest line
tx bubba
i used to despise bar tending..spend the first 4 hours feeding ceasers non stop to 4 bar hags..;(
i made the mistake of watching my favorite scene from Chicago before i went to bed last night, and i woke up with the song still stuck in my head!
ceasers?
i used to have nightmars about celery
LOL Crossy!
bar tending is better than waitressing -- at least you have a bar to protect you
jmc..vodka,motts clamato juice, rim the glass with celery salt and garnish with a celery stalk
bubba: you serious about the veg?
ah.. w/ 2 ltrs transposed
lol jmc..theese women were desperate,no mere oken plank would stop them
sounds like a bloody mary
whatever..im actually trying to forget them,i just get theese flashbacks
:)
I work in a gay bar, and if I never see another cosmopolitan again, it'll be too soon.
lol
just was curious there are lots of variations on drinks i don't know
I didn't know anyone drunk them outside of sex and the city!
Alton Brown drinks them
i dont think anyone did until SATC!
i used to have to make a ton of white and black russians
and they are very popular with sorority girls
im pretty simple when i go out. vodka + diet cola or bourbon + ginger. does that say something about me?
the only mixed drinks i drink are very dry martinis (no vodka allowed!) and irish coffee with out the current trend of adding creme de menth
says your our kind of gal;0
yes, that you need to stop adulterating the bourbon! lol
Mojito for me!
and that lol
any clue on gl4? i'm at 99.. so i might as well go to triple digits before i break
I used to give my son the whip cream off the top and the silly bars started putting the creme de menth on top of the whip creme!
hah, ill try jmc :)
we always used to keep an eye out for this one lady, she used to order southern comfort..neat;0
hints for the O and the i directly beneath the Ls?
guinness is my drink of choice. finally got to try it in dublin. I don't normally type this but... OMG! so delicious
I would go out and order bourbon neat and they would always give it to my date!
they figured no woman would drink bourbon neat
I finally gave up and started ordering it with a little soda water just so I could get my own drink
*plops onto bar stool* Gimme a glass of wine, you heathens.
hi judi
sorry ruru isn't here judi
That your delicate feminine lips would burst into flames at the taste of it. Refreshing drinks for me. Mojito, G+T, yum yum
jmc, next time really get them going, order it neat..with a straw
gonna go get some breakfast. BRB -- dont anyone disappear!
later eva
lol crossy I might just do that!
I may have to eva -- that work thing

Harp are there many Jews in Montana. There was an article about Jews in Montana in this week's NY Times
peri, new word for most everyone
you'll like my icon then peri
lol bichon, then maybe YOU should tell ME! There's only two or three rabbi's in the state. I'd say it's less than one percent of the population.
It was an interesting article, saying that the Jewish population is actually growing in Montana
One of my best friends in grade school was Jewish--(Leslie Fiedler's daughter, the writer), so I never realized it was unusual
ol 5/10 please
wouldnt go throught earler
Hi Babblers can anyone clue the mi7/36 please
If a group of Hasidim [ultraorthodox] comes to Montana, there be many more cause they tends to have very large families.

That is a good thing in many urban areas harp
Thanks very much ruru and bichon
yw norma
Thanks for looking Edward

exactly, it has it's good and bad points. There are people who just don't want to bother with the school system but have no intention of really teaching their kids anything. That's the down side
they sign the papers for home schooling because they need a babysitter, etc.
I'm done, anyone want a clue or two?

any clue for the mi7/36 ?
any clues for the last gl 7 please
kazz...gl + an mix of of the veg. that brings tears
It's difficult to clue - gl plus the weepy vegetable, two later vowels reversed in order.
mi7/36 - central to the bottom of a shoe/foot
thks haz got it - i nearly had it before but had tried the weepy veg but didnt transpose the letters
Wow--finally cracked this one, with pplenty of help from A 2 Z. It was one of the hardest for me ever--I counted 62 words I couldn't define (about 30%)--most puzzles are closer to 20% for me. And I swear at least a dozen words were ones I'd never seen before--even in Babbleland.
You're welcome, Kazzer.
I would agree, jan, not an easy grid at all.
If I didn't have a meeting, I'd look up some of those weird g words and the long n words.
Hmmm...that sounded sinister--I meant words starting with n.
What are the chances of encountering them again?
Actually, the long N ones use common enough letters that I'm surprised we haven't seen them. Or if we have, I've forgotten. The weird g ones, though, I think unlikely.
I don't remember seeing the n words before. I should be dutiful and look them up, just in case they're words that I could work into a conversation.
Just checked--the ni/6 and 7 combo refers to an alloy of sulfur and metals like copper and silver used to decorate incised metal objects; or the objects so decorated. Sounds lovely...I may have to google later today to see what they look like.
Here's a sample sentenc, "Cloisonne is such a cliche, these days I'm more into ni/6"
Wikipedias has a nice entry--looks like it was used in Europe mainly for religious art, and in Thailand as a decorative folk art.
At which point people would start giving me odd looks.
Indeed. ;-)
The gl/7/36 is another name for nitroglycerin. Though why it needs another name is beyond me--it comes up so seldom in conversation, at least in my set.
It'd be better named 'holdverystill'
can you clue that gl 7 more please? not getting it still.
On the other hand the te/5 /6 combo is a common babblet, referring to a class of lizards including the whiptail lizard. I'm kind of surprised it doesn't ahve more iconic status, like the babblets for the dolphin, the needle case etc.
Do you know what we mean by the weepy vegetable, mkg?
i have 84 and 112 to go and darn, cant get to half way.
If you do, anagram it and add it to the gl
It's an extremely difficult grid, mkg, I only got through it by using morewords etc.
i know weepy veg.
Right, switch round the second and third vowels in the word. Then start the word with gl.
got it haz. ty ty
Morewords or A2Z is definitely called for on this one. I punked out with 40 to go before turned to my lifelines.
Well done!
Off to meetingville...
Bye, jan.
I feel better now lol...struggling at 62
We should have a rolling announcement at the bottom of the page 'This grid will test all your powers of vocabulary, patience and imagination'
yes indeed...and don't start this one if it's important to you to finish it!
131 words left to get. Forty-five minutes to get ready and depart for the evening? Sadly I'm not wonderwoman :(
no chance in 45 mins nancy boy...and hello
Well, it depends on how long you take to get ready, but it's not looking good.
I don't know Haz, to straighten or not to straighten? Conundrum.
So you've given up on the grid?
My warnings have had an effect.
In the face of a towering pile of clothes and hair products, I am no wordsmith ;)
not me...at least not yet...though I may have to take a break to live another life lol
You'll never win 'Determined babbler of the day' at this rate.
kallia i am 62 today. i hope your only struggle is this grid!
Happy birthday, mkg!
hey, happy birthday mkg!
happy birthday mkg
nancy, i do what i can quickly and then if i have time i return. if not i dont. i do lickety when half way.
ty ty ty
I mean another life apart from babble :)
my hubby toook me out for nice dinner last night and then shopping to walmart! he said "you can spend 25 dollars on anything you wish as my gift to you! he is so funny and cute! we laughed and had a good time buying groceries which are cheap at walmart...and i got sox for me and my son. otherwise couldnt think of anything else to buy!
better go move chilli from the slow oven , get some rice and salad prepared for dinner
Well, I'm not going to win Dutiful housewife of the day if I don't get going into the kitchen to get some food ready.
wow mkg I am impressed
that you couldn't think of anything to buy!
you wanna be dutiful housewife Haz?
Enjoy the rest of your birthday, mkg, and Nancy Boy, I'd go with the straightening.
I want to eat as well, Kallia! I'm not really a housewife, I'm a self-scheduling domestic overseer.
Off I go - bye for now!
LOL...enjoy your dinner
Bye!
It irks me that the elves don't come here and do my domestic chores.
ty. 2 of my kids are coming for dinner etc. the others will call i hope. i have 6 kids and 13 grandkids so far and 2 not married yet kids and most not done having kids. my kids loved having a large family so they want one too.
are you cooking for them mkg?
me to mom...so mch internet, so little time...to paraphrase someone lol
yes, cooking. we have hanukah so i fried up potato latkes, which are potato pancakes. i love to cook.
what does the 8 start wit, please?
do
I LOVE a good potato latke.
i dont have the 8
I gave a clue for it earlier...do7/8 begins like the tile game of matching spots
My favoriet line around here is: "This is not a Disney movie"... meaning that the stuff does not put itself away, etc. LOL.
Thats fireworks for me - thanx for the clues along the way - been lurking cos i have a stinky horrible cold and am about to go back to bed - see you tomorrow
thanks...
wd kazzer and sleep well
Bed sounds like a plan for you Kazzer.
did you get it mom?
No, LOL.
Working on it, though.

Hi dorens :)
admin is not a word? bummer
i am still relatively new to babble expert, so I make these silly mistakes... i'm workng on it though
Nobody noticed ;)
I think we all make mistakes sometimes
Aslindy, who drew that horse in your picture? I love the shading
thanks. the key is to try not to make the same mistake repeatedly
thank you. I drew it myself. =)
How DID you have the patience? I would love to be able to draw well and get a lovely piece of work out of it, but I just cannot sit still long enough!
well... I used to draw a lot, when I was bored. not so much any more.
Babble taking over now I suppose :D
lots of stuff, really =)

i'm outta here... no reason to be at work today
There's an al 6/27 - first three letters, a drink related to beer, last three, first letters of acreage devoted to wine.
how can i get hints for words i haven't done yet ?
which site is it ?
Do you have Lickety's Babble Clues up? This is a list of words in groups by first two letters, and just knowing that there is a six letter word between two you have is a big help.
For truly deperate situations (that al 6/27 was one for me this grid) there's a site www.morewords.com that lets you enter two letters and as many dashes as are needed, and gives you a list which almost always agrees with Dr. God's dictionary.
no
ty for the info :)
Lickety is on a link on the playbabble page, down at the bottom; for MoreWords you have to enter the url (or search it, if you've lost that). For a big grid, I often end up with three tabs going - Babble, Lickety and MoreWords - then I have to try to force myself to try to get each word without the MoreWords list!
Good Evening Fellow Babblers. :)
oi6?
i mean io6?
(did I set a bunch of you off?)
Very quiet crowd in tonite, Harp!
I am just stopping in to see what I can do
Hiya! I'm lurking and pecking away.
Harp io 6 - io + think of the cube used in gambling, and change the last cons for another
Oh gee, I have 122 left---this might be a day that I don't bother to make the effort
thanks, back to work now!
I'm not finding this grid one bit easy!
65 left and I need a nap ... bbl
Good afternoon/evening all.
Hi there, Haz. How are you? hello all.
25 left, not a nice grid
Hello, peri, I'm fine, thanks. It's one of the more testing grids, that's for sure.
Hi Haz, Peri, Merk et al. :)
Hello, Soodle.
s
Hello, everyone.
Hi everyone, back to try and finish
Hello, Annie and Vicuna.
Hi Haz!
It's nice to see you, Annie, I've not been around at the same time as you for a few days.
Time to open the clues and zip through the remainder, here.
Nice to see you too, we are been missing each other.
(Standing well back as Vi zips past)
Hold onto your hats, folks!
I know - it's been busy here over the past while, I've been doing the grid and not chatting a lot.
I'll be pretty surprised if there's much zipping done, even with the list some of these words are pretty unusual.
* picks myself up as Vicuna Zipped past*
Yeah. I've come up short already.
finally, fireworks, now to spend some time with my great nephew who is 5 months old and cute as a bug!!
Of course, this is the mother of the twins of glory we're talking about.
congrats on both counts, peri
Yay for periwinkle!
Does that make me a Mother of Glory?
tytyt, bye for now
Well done, peri. 5 months is a lovely age. Old enough to know what to do with them, young enough to not be mobile.
I think it does, Vi.
Oh goody!
I love the phrase - cute as a bug!! I have a mental image of a chubby smiling baby with antennae!!!
Speaking of bugs, husband brought home a calendar from a drug company. Pictures of enlargements of things like demodectic mange mites, it's absolutely repulsive.
It's hanging up in no kitchen of mine!
lol. What an idea for a calendar.
Oooh - stoppit Haz. You're making me jealous. Everybody on Babble will be wanting one!!
It's well produced and everything, and cunningly the drug company have placed adverts alongside showing the remedies.
I finished this monster needing the help of cluers, the list and as a last resort morewords.
Well done, Annie - a bit of a test, wasn't it?
Drug companies seem to have a bottomless pit of money to spend on promotiing their products.
Yes, it most certainly was.
Annie - If I had a hat on, I would take it off to you,. I am struggling with 80 to go.
I shouldn't complain, they've funded us on nice freeby trips in the past.
Evening all :)
Here's FM!
Hello, FM!
Hello, how are you?
Yay for Annieb!
Hey Haz and Vi and Annie and Soodle
Hi FM!!
Just taking a 5 min break from wirting Christmas cards.
Hey FM
You're very industrious, that job still awaits me.
Haz, my bro-in-law is a vet in Kildare and my sis is a doctor, and between the pair of them, they could go off on a free-bee weekend once a month!
I sent out the first batch today.
and waiting for the kettle to boil for a mug of tea.
WTG Vi!
And there's us thinking we do well! We have to share out the trips among 7 people in the practice.
Just a little batch! (5)
I must be off. Bye dear babblers.
Bye Annie - take care :)
Bye Annie!
Nice to see you, Annie - be well and say hello to Bobby.
Bye, Annieb! (Hmm, I'm getting a sense of deja vu, here.)
I've done 20 so far but can't find my Chistrimas book so fear I am going to miss out on some I suld be sending to.
I will, Haz. *poof and away*
Haz, trip to Mums today was great - less than 20 mins!
I must go make myself presentable to go out this afternoon. I'll be back for a few more if I can decide on an outfit quickly enough.
Compared with the 1 hr 15 it took before - was great!
That's brilliant! I was going to ask how it went.
Bye VI and see you again soon I hope.
THere are quite a few very rural lanes to be traverssed but on the whole it is a good journey although I owuldn't like to do it in the dark -.
The rural lanes sound interesting...
Such beautiful country side and mostly farm land and lanes and idyl but not to be taken lightly - heavy fog this morning.
That must have been the fog that sat over us all of yesterday. It isn't pleasant, is it?
No but it did clear fiarly quickly and we even saw a few rays of sunshine today.
The forecast is for the weather to get a lot colder over the weekend. Thermals time!
And was your mum okay?
Hi all
Will head off now as slept crappily last night and have been up since 4am so will love and leave you but catch up over the weekend - am going exploring tomorrow.
Bye FM, and Hi Sally
Hello, Sally.
Bye FM - have an early night and hopefully you'll get caught up with sleep.
Yes she was thanks HAz and Hi and bye Sally
Phantom - saloon!
Bye FM. Give my love to Billingshurst. Used to live near there and still have family there.
Good to hear, FM. See you tomorrow.
!!! will have to catch up with you another time on that Sally.
Sleep well for now FM.

You,re two courageous people, Crossy.

That must be great for her.
(And away...)

god works in mysterious ways
but enough blowing my horn, now i must teach this grid who is boss
You've made lemolade out of you lemons. Bravo to both of you!

It's a nasty grid. Grrr...
I am back and plodding along. I can't seem to get excited about today's grid ... not that it's pulling teeth, but I'm just not into it.

Hi Lyn!
Hi, all, just getting to the grid as my net was still down at home last night... looks difficult.
Just annoying Rbud.
Hi Rosbud, the last quarter is
A remarkable number of odd words ... I'm trying to change my attitude so I enjoy this more. I wanted a longer grid, got it, and then complain.

You'll make it then, Ardilla ... if you stay awake.
Beware of whiplash when you jerk your head back after hitting the keyboard.
lol
I'm trying to change my icon and have not been successful yet.
Now I'm worried about Ardilla's neck!
Ah, success, I went to I.E. and tried uploading it there. Now to see if it transferred to here.
The problem with Ardilla is if she falls asleep, none to gently, her head will swing down and bounce back up.
lol
brb
think I was almost asleep, too - whole lotta napping goin' on in here today, lol! ;)
I know; I just plain left, laid down and slept until the phone woke me up.

hi all....clue please for mi7/36 please?
... and Fireworks!
hello all
woohoo, Merk!!!
mi 7 ... the center of the bottom of your foot
That actually was one of the easier of the odd words here.
thanks for the clue
thanx Merk!
hi, lindy!
Hello Aslindy ... a warning ... the grid is boring that we've had people falling asleep at their keyboards. It has taken me all day to finish because I keep falling asleep.
It also didn't help that I left for a long lunch with an old friend.
oh dear... I am pretty sleepy already!
Well, then, this will do it for you.
I was here earlier and got about 90, so... maybe I can stay awake...
Get up and walk around every ten minutes, take a drink, nibble, etc. you can do it!
I'd rather just nap... lol
i'm back
What helped me was to change my attitude. As someone said, we all felt as if we were pulling hens' teeth, but I finally sat up and said, get with it girl or you aren't going to finish this sucker. You can do it.
Was your nose broken Ardilla? Are you going to be OK, I hope.
I am stuck on the very first al 4,4 ... that's how sleepy I am
oh, got it now
Yes, it's a bit strange, a Latin plural, lots of vowels, but you monkeyed it on your own.
Time to go and plan what to make for supper. Have a great evening everyone and see you tomorrow, I hope.
bye merk!
Stupid g words grumble grrrr
Bye Merk
lol I'm skipping those
Good decision Lindy
evening...
hi babblers.
gl7 gl+first letter of alphabet + cats have nine l****
Hello, Specificity & Fuq :-)

ni 7 is plural
ty, zooz. must look that one up
ty fuquay
yw
a black metallic substance, consisting of silver, copper, lead, and sulfur, with which an incised design or ground is filled to produce an ornamental effect on metal. Interesting! Wonder if that's what you call the Hopi style of silver jewelry with black incised designs?
there is another ni 6 which is the same except last letter
the last gl7, help please?
OK, just one N left from there. ty again
wish I could help

hi all
Hello, Kanet :-)
looks like a few of the same bunch i saw here this morning
Hi kanet
i think alot of people have either finished or have there head deep in the grid, either way i am off to bed now, happy babbling all.
these chemistry terms seem a bit outlandish to me.. i mean, i like liberal game dictionaries, but c'mon. ; )
'night zoom
kanet
kanet saw you talking about wordsplay this morning. I play too
hi ge
4x4 or 5x5?
usually 4x4 but more 5x5 since starting babble
i play as tk
im good enough for me!
which means im not as good as so many others
oh yeah.. i've seen you on there
me neither
how are you doing on babble today?
i used to finish in the top half a good bit of the time
now i do on occasion. but mostly i'm 2/3 the way down. tsk tsk.
112 down here. 84 to go. blah
you?
I too used to do better, then everybody else got crazy good.
oh.. so it's not me. i don't know if that' reassuring or demoralizing. <shrug>
i didn't play for months.. more than a year
And here i am at 165 so 31 left.
care to pass along any hints for the ei words?
I am willing but unable
haha. looks like the conversation died down as soon as i got here. were you guys talking about me behind my back or something? ; )
nobody wants to talk to us newbies
yeah.. could be it. ::shrug;:

did you in**** people to your Christmas party?
lo4 : don't **** your temper
got that one. have another?
crazy as a lo**
that's a lo** of hooey
hey kanet, don't you want to rotate the board like wordsplay?
sure do
i emailed that suggestion today.. lol
great idea!
he said it's on the list of future possible additions
maybe if more people email .. <hint>
i also like the chat feature on wordsplay
hint taken
only 1 box to enter text in
but typing a quote first makes it a chat. not a word guess
i get screwed up either way and guess in the chat box but that's just me...
haha
i try tilting my head to 'rotate'... but it's not the same
hmm.. i'm missing one lo4
There is a thing called BabbleExpert available free from Lickety if you have a PC and not a Mac. One of its features is a box where if you type one word it goes both into Lickety's list and the Word list, and if you type more than one word it goes to the chat. It also puts everything on one page.
back for a few more;0
ooooo...cool!
hi jill. babbleexpert sounds good. sadly, i'm on a mac
Do you know about Lickety's list?
Hi crossy :)
but... i have a win netbook, so i have no excuse
howdy jilli
I do lickety but have to go back and forth
except that it speaks to me in german. and i don't know german. so i believe i will reload the os. maybe linux
hi cross
Well, good, if you stick around and go pro maybe you'd enjoy Expert.
howdy kanet
and im such a dork that I write down the board facing different ways so I can "rotate" on my own
expert makes it much more friendly indeed
gtfo. that's a lot of work
shame exp isn't a web interface
while we're discussing UI
There's a grid on Lickety's page, so you could print it out and turn in any way you like.
MESSAGE FOR CROSSY - I'm just about to put that crispy bacon muffin recipe on my profile for you.
i also like hitting spacebar to enter a guess. thumbs are stronger than pinkies
Hi jac
yaa jacula!!!
uhoh.. battery dying & stomach grumbling.. later gators
you guys obviously prefer wordsplay, so why are you here?
Wretched, wretched grid! This one's a toughie ... such odd words.
i was going to ask what the need was to roatate a babble grid lol
very tough one origami
Yes, it's horrible and big too. I finished using morewords, not being a masochist.
well been married for 17 years,so im into pain a bit,ill wait to list hehe
CROSSY - The recipe is in my bio for you now. Enjoy!
yaaa1
it's definitely a painful one. I've been slogging away and still have 60 to go
how many more do you need, crossy?
Hi everyone, btw. Just needed to get Crossy's attention first.:-)
OOOHHHH! YUMMY
Sounds delish, jac
Clues available here
There's a version that contains asparagus, too. Let me know if you want that.
this bacon one will serve me fine ty jacula;)))
Jilli - I finished the grid earlier but I'll leave you to clue while I go off and read your bio.
Okay Crossy. Let me know how they taste!
ok, jac :)
Hi guys, just getting on! Think I can finish in 6 hours?
Maybe, rumpy, but there are only 5+ hours left
It's just after 6, don't I have till 12?
The after-flip speedsters finished in about 2 hours last night. I have no idea how.
I'm just looking at the "hours left" above the grid.
Yes, you have until 12 your time (10 my time)
No clues needed?
ty jilli,im to far yet to be begging for clues, ill just have to pound away for a bit
ill be on my hands and knees at 75% lol
ok, I'm going to check email. Back soon.
24 words in 5 minutes, guess I'll try
I've hardly worked on this today...I think I'll just pop in for another second
Hi Kap!
could I get a clue for the bottom left A? still have 7 words to find from there and getting nowhere fast. have the french friends
hi, babblers!
hey welki!
*collecting good luck for Team Kleibrink*
am4/6 -- in the middle of. And all the rest build off that until you get to the French friends
(a curling team ... popular sport up here in the north)
Hi welki
thanks, Jilli!
yw :)
Oh FV -- am45 is the singular French friend (fem)
I mean the first am4/5. The second is the infamous Idi Am**
brb
my grandbaby just stared and stared at me today.....loving it
Lost with do8. Clues please?
sorry, kenny, don't have it . . . but then I have 68 to go! LOL
do7 pl
that is, the pl of do7 = do8
do7/36 -- do + very short skirt + vowel (and pl for the 8)
But I can't get do7 either!
hello, Fellow Babblers. How are you all tonight? I'm finding this to be a pesky grid!
hey, nef, me too!
hello une, rhaydon, Kenny, Nef et al!
hey, jilli!
Thanks jill!!!!
joanne, don't you just love those grandbabies
Hello all!
hi jilli. How are you tonight? Are you already done with this grid?
yw kenny
Hi unea
hi luwanda
Hi Luwanda
une is that your dog? cute!!
Yes, I finished earlier, thanks to morewords. It's a beast.
thanks for telling me that! I thought it was just me! :-)
I don't have the mental energy after working with 30 4th graders all day.
i usually pop in for a quick babble fix
DANG! Lots of phantoms tonight too!
lots of weird words we never use too
Nef, actually the ei words ARE phantoms
(except the last one)
yay, all done. now I can go have a beer! thank you morewords!!
congrats, good!
WTG, Good! YAY!!!!
YAY Good!
Hi all. Just dropping in to see how the babblers are doing.
Hi wht -- have you finished?
are you done already wht?
I think the monkeys made up today's word list.
I finished this afternoon.
I just tend not to chat much when I am Babbling at work.
so did I
LOL! I'm laughing because THIS is how I spend an "exciting" Friday night these days! :_D
:-D
Ironic laugh, eh Nef?
I can't Babble from work. Too much to do there and I'm far enough behind already
Lucky me, I could just stay home today.
very, jilli. My dtr is going to a disco roller skating event; I helped her with her costume, and am now settled in here for the night
How many to go, Nef?
I have 40 down; 1506 left
LOL!
Oh, MY! Freudian slip there! I must think this one is hard! :-)
There have been easier.
Wow -- 3 ft of snow north of Toronto just today!
Lucky them. I hope they don't feel the need to get into the spirit of the season and share it with the rest of us.
Evening Babblers. Freezing here in PA tonight!!
Evening Ciocia
Hello all. 22 degrees + 2 ft of snow here.
I'm with you wht . . . no need to share all that snow!
Hiya Scrabs. Was thinking of you today with the weather forecast. Yikes!
Hi Scrabs. Are you staying warm and dug out?
My driveway was plowed out twice today
Hi scrabs and judy -- back in a mo...
we had enough snow on Tuesday/Wednesday for me right now. I have 6-8 inches in my yard where it isn't drifted; almost 2 foot drifts in other areas. I had to go plow a path for the dog; and he still did his deeds right off the bottom steps!
Saw the news about the people stuck on the Thruway overnight.
I shoveled my front deck and stairs, and in front of the garage, that was all
hi Judy and Scrabs.
Yes, NY State Thruway has been closed since yesterday, from south of Buffalo to NY-Penn line
Hi Nef!
Wow Scrabs! Is this early in the season for that amount of snow?
didn't you get snow Judy?
We had sleet/snow mess on Wednesday morning. Only about 2 inches but I had to shovel it right away in the morning or it would have been solid ice by nightfall.
First major snowstorm of the year. Our snow making machine = Lake Erie. Cold air over warm + unfrozen lake = snow!
Scrabs, do you live in the area whenre they always get the "Lake effect?"
After we moved from Warsaw to Toledo, we ran into a storm going home one Thanksgiving. It took us 8 hours to get from Buffalo to Erie.
Yes, and there is a ski resort across the valley from me! I am on the large hill across from their large hill.
OMG wht!! One of my friends was stranded on I-80 in PA one year at Easter time.
are you on call this weekend Scrabs?
Do you ski? It would be grand to live that close if you did!
I'm not liking this grid today!
Nope, I am off this weekend--tomorrow = snowshoeing with my new snowshoes! Sunday = baptism of friend's daughter, with lunch to follow.
I cross-country ski and there are groomed trails in the park next to me. I will call tomorrow to see if the trails have opened.
Good for you Scrabs--sounds like a wonderful weekend. I'm baking cookies this weekend.
my phantom word today is saloon
I think that my Xmas shopping is completed except for ordering gift cards on line.
Mine too, Judy!
I'm attending a class on adoptions tomorrow AM (work-related); then would like to sleep (but won't be able to). I need to decorate and mail Christmas cards
yep I need to address the cards yet too. Think my shopping is done.
I always debate whether to send out cards or not, then procrastinate until it's too late.
phantoms: saloon, silo, sieve, etc. I see a lot of words tonight that aren't here
And there are 36 that I need to see and that ARE there.
me too Nef. I'm really good at finding words that aren't in the grid! LOL
I still have 78 to go
140 for me. If I would just DO the grid and not chat and find words, it would work better; but it isn't as fun! ;-)
hi everyone!
My phantom of the day was galleon
evening dawg

Good, Ru, watch him for a while, find the right name
yep.. that's what I thought.. it should come to me..
ruru, what will make him earn the Dylan? Barking poetry?
I think if he likes the sea jilli...
hmm, maybe after a fine wine..or fine whine
Of course, if he does so incomprehensibly, he earns the Bob D
I have always taken lots of time to find the right name for my bunnies
gimme whine whine whine

Oh, that's funny about daddy Bob
historically the name Dylan is sea-related
go scrabs go

jilli practices self constraint..er self restraint

Incidentally, now I've stopped sneezing, on the subjecy of the name Dylan (pronounced Dullan) it means 'son of the sea' and comes from the Welsh words for 'dy' (which means 'great') and 'llanw' (which means 'sea'). Originally it was a name iven to both sexes, but you only hear it used for boys now, I thinks.
wow jilli, you get the gelt for that!

are you just "getting" it or making it Jilli?
having for what, jac?

Supper Scrabbs.
yummm
Did you think I was buying a round? LOL
I had salmon + green beans, and a grapefruit for dessert.
It's 9:40 pm for me, jac
yumm, scrabs1
ibd - yeah - circuiting is the word -- too much electricity and shoppers
Scrabbs - that actually does sound yummy.
poor jwr. sit back and chill with us.
That's late to eat Scrabbs!
this will be poached chicken and gravy, garlic mashed potatoes, sugar snap peas.
I ate 1 hr and 40 min ago, still late for dinner
That sound nice too, Scrabbs.
that sounds yummy too, jilli
that's not late if you come home from work after 7 pm as I often do
I meant Jilli.

yes that is a greater commitment, jwr.

jwr - yes, it is.
Me too, Jac
is it a law in OZ to have christmas lights on?

So very thoughtful, JM!
sounds heroic, huh? But after all these years, it's not a problem to deal with actual crises -- just with crank callers and regulars who have emotional problems we can't solve. There are ways to deal with all of them. whoops -- I've got to start and I'll look in on babble & chat when I can. 15 to go.
I try scrabs
I do not like green eggs and ham, I do not like them Sam I Am!

Judy - as I said to MrP - I never put my decorations up before 12th December at the earliest. Traditionally, trees etc., weren't put up before Christmas Eve at one time.

Well, Jac, I put my decorations up the weekend after Thanksgiving. But I figure to each his own. Nobody should be telling her when to put them up!
Judy - I agree.
or to put them up at all
so right jmc
lively bunch tonight
Like I said, those people don't know her or what her circumstances are. They should keep their thoughts to themselves and get with the true spirit of Christmas, which has nothing to do with how many flashing Santas you have on your lawn.
In D.C. there are lots of different religious beliefs so it would be amazingly presumptuous to impose that on some one
although my Hindu friends all celebrate christmas
kanet - welcome. I saw you here earlier in the UK day (11th) but I was doing the grid, not chatting then. It's about normal for the chog.
jmc - so do mine! In fact, they often come to me for recipes.
*dancing christmas dance and sprinkling glitter everywhere*
christmas dance?
love the glitter jmc but it can be a bitch to clean up! LOL
Damn! Now I'll have to vacuum the carpets all over again! Bl**dy glitter everywhere!
hi jac. yeah, i've seen you around. this is the busiest chog i've seen. but i've only been here 4 days.. i'm at 122. any help w/ a di 4? !!
Don't you just hate those Christmas cards that people sprinkle glitter into the envelopes of? You open the card and the stuff's everywhere!
di + spanish cheer minus last letter

jmc - calm down or I'll send you to your room!
:-( you're not my mom!
hitting the liquor cabinet tonight, jmc?
Wanna bet, jmc? (Stern Mama look.)
lol
huh? why should tonight be different cio?
LOL jmc
:-P you'r not stiddie either
I'm too laden with potato latkes to dance, can't even talk <wink>
just save enough for your booze balls, jmc
booze balls?
not to worry lbd I buy in bulk
bourbon balls, just
bourbon balls?
like rum balls but with bourbon
chocolaty goodness
chocolate liqueur?
No, not stiddie, jmc, but she's not the only stern Mama around. LOL
ooo sounds yummy
nope bourbon!
they are dangerously delish, just
with cocoa powder and sugar
mmmm bourbon balls
That reminds me, I was on Facebook at about 12.30 the other night when my uncle from Canada came on and told me it was time I was in bed!
I don't think that bourbon is even available in Quebec...
lol jac!
but I do know Wild Turkey (I think)
He's on the other side of the Atlantic and he's nagging me! I felt like saying, 'I'm 52 uncle and I'll got to bed when I like!' LOL
you can make them with any kind of booze, just. i have rum and bourbon balls
you could use whiskey in a pinch
jac why didn't you?
I more of a gin type person tho...imported from Britain, Boodles, Saphire Blue, Beafeater :)
Didn't want to upset him, jmc.
hmmm I am not sure gin would be quite the thing
It's his way of telling you he loves you jac
oh meant for drinking not for making balls heheh
gin doesn't have the lingering taste for these treats, just.
maybe instead of cocoa you could use crushed peppermint with the gin
Quite so, Just.
I know so I'll just drink it out of a glass, to hell with the baking
lol just
the nice thing about bourbon balls ==> no baking
oh? what constitutes a bourbon ball other than bourbon?
tx lbdawg.. just saw your chat.. already got that one.. : \
crushed vanilla wafers, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, booze, corn syrup
grind up vanilla wafers, add caro syrup and cocoa powder and powdered sugar and bourbon and roll into a ball
Ingredients: * 1 cup fine vanilla wafer crumbs * 1 cup finely chopped pecans * 1 cup confectioners' sugar * 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder * 1/4 cup bourbon * 1 tablespoons plus 1 1/2 teaspoons light corn syrup * confectioners' sugar, sifted Preparation: Thoroughly combine 1 crushed vanilla wafer crumbs, chopped pecans, 1 cup confectioners' sugar, and the cocoa. In a separate bowl, blend the bourbon and corn syrup. Stir this bourbon mixture into the dry mixture; blend well. Cover and chill for at least a few hours. Sift about 1/2 to 1 cup of confectioners' sugar on a cookie sheet. Shape small bits of the dough into balls and roll them in the confectioners'. Store in refrigerator in tightly covered containers. Make these a few days in advance for best flavor, and roll in confectioners' sugar again before serving, if desired. These
lol lbd and I have the same recipe!
back again. I get a phone call and end up wandering off. Heck of a way to work on a tough grid!
ooo yumm but never heard of caro syrup...?
I don't use the pecans
karo syrup is corn syrup
caro syrup is a corn syrup
& pl!! ok. 123. i am exhausted. catch you folks later. night, crazy babblers
i used the pecans with the rum balls, but i also used condensed milk instead of the corn syrup
bye kanet see you tomorrow!
That reminds me, if I get rid of this virus soon I must make some sweetie treats ready for our Boxing Day family meal afters.
ooo I'm sure maple syrup (of which quebec is famous for) would be a good substitute for corn or karo?
night night, kanet
nite kanet
I used to meet with my in-laws on boxing day
karo syrup has not taste, it's just sweet and thick, used in making candies
Got to marzipan the 4 Christmas cakes later - I'm a week late doing it, due to being ill.
hmm I think maple syrup would go well with rum balls but I would have to think about bourbon balls
you make your own marzipan?
Finally . . . FIREWORKS
whoo hooo cio!
whoooooo hoooooo CJ!!!
for karo syrup you could really just use a plain thick sugar syrup
WTG, Judy! YAY!!!!
ty ty
jac...thx for the recipe...but you ended it with these...than nothing...these what??
Our family meal is taking place on Boxing Day 'cos my two kids went off to Thailand today and won't be back until Christmas Eve. They're having Christmas Day at Crew Hall in Staffs with my ex and his wife, and have also kidnapped my mother for that day, so it'll just be me, Other Half and Stepd for Xmas Day dinner. There'll be 9, maybe 10 here on Boxing Day though.
Just - Sorry about that. It should have said These can also be frozen for longer storage. Makes about 3 dozen bourbon balls.
very tasty stuff
aww thx...in this house...no need to freeze...will be gone before I even get one, even though I be the chef
my bourbon balls are in great demand
I could make my own marzipan but I don't.
i don't like marzipan. something about the texture, i think.
Just - that sound like our house when I make things. Everyone sneaks in to 'test'.
I'll have to research where I can get Bourbon...either upstate NY about 100k from here or Ontario border town about 60 miles
MI 7/36 pls
i don't like it either but my ex-sil loves it and can't find it in NM (or couldn't) so I send it to her every year
lbd - I had that ready to roll icing that's like sickly white marzipan. Have to use it on my daughter's cake though, since she loves it.
but if I would go to NY I'd have to pay duty and extra taxes :(
it's the middle of a shoe bottom, phan
mi4.6 + spanish cheer, phan
center of the bottom of your shoe phan
jmc - if you need a recipe for marzipan I have one somewhere.
thnks, lbd and jmc
like fondant, jac? don't like that stuff either. reminds me of play doh.
well, I'm falling asleep here at the computer. cu all tomorrow! Thanks for the wonderful chat tonight!
no that's okay I buy it locally -- ironically it is imported from germany
night night, CJ, sweet dreams!
I use Royal icing on our cake, my Mum's cake and Other Half's parents' cake.
bye cio!
Sleep well Judy and get to bed bbefore yu wake up with keyboard prints on your face.x
royal icing, that's nice. i'm not much for icings of any kind except german chocolate. not as sweet.
mi7/36 please
just clued, rumple
lbd - that's it - fondant icing. Couldn't think what it was called until you said.
german choc has dried coconut in it tho, right?
yes, just
don't like coconut except in pina coladas
it has coconut not necessarily dried
TY, got it
and confectioner's sugar is aka icing sugar, right?
my mom used to make a 7 minute frosting, to die for. never could make it like she did
jmc _ I was thinking you could give the almond paste (marzipan) recipe to the person you normally have to send the commerciallyu made stuff to.
yes, icing sugar = confection or powdered sugar
hmm maybe but it is a tradition -- it is all shaped like fruit
JustMar - I think that's the translation for the sugar, yes.
i use regular sugar and grind it in my food processar
lol translation :)
Oh, those marzipan fruits are so simple to make!
processor
lol when would I do that jac? between the two jobs and my son?
confection or powdered sugar has cornstarch in it, keeps it from clumping
I will think about it
jmc - yes, that works. Grind a bit for caster sugar (used for making cakes, especially sponges) and mor for icing sugar.
yes but if you are about to use it you don't need the corn starch
i'm trying to make "mini-earths" for the company bake off
and actually it keeps quite well without it in a tightly closed jar
sound impressive shirl
mini earths? do tell
I'll have to check the label and see if corn starch is in it....I just bought some cause I have a simple recipe for the most amazing pecan cookies
I love pecans but I am a terrible snob about them
it can be made with walnuts too...
I grew up with pecan trees and cannot abide ones that are not fresh
and what does that mean? being snobbish about pecans
ohh I see...
jmc - I used to make those when I was younger, had 2 small children, a husband and 2 jobs. These days, as a 'housewife' with a partner, 2 grown-up kids and a teenaged stepdaughter, I don't seem to have the time. I'm not sure if that's down to slowing down ovr the years or 'time management buggered up due to Babble'. LOL
like some of my northern friends are about apples!
well you are a saint jac! ;-) I am less
well we're an apple province too so I get ya!
i like the paper pecans. so easy to shell
and babble does "bugger" the time
You have to admit that nothing tastes like something freshly picked, whatever it is.
I don't think I've ever seen pecans in their shells
my daddy planted the roots then three years later grafted the trees
they are beautiful nuts
I should google it...and I will..(just not now, makes written note) :)
they are a really pretty shell. the trees are nice too, altho messy when it's time to harvest
jmc has just bestowed a sainthood upon me. Can you print me a certificate for that please? I'll hang it over the front door so that all who enter may worship me. *giggles*
notice ..not mental note :) heh
*hands jac a gilded certificate*
I actually made a saint icon of my sister
Does anyone have mi 7/36?
she donated a kidney to a Black friend and everyone acted like she walked on water
thx ib will definately check it out (very intrigued)
so that year I made an icon of her with a halo
Thank you jmc. I will trasure that.
mi4.6 (2nd one) + spanish cheer
Or even treasure it.
does it matter what "colour" the friend is?
TY Ibda - fireworks
Just - that's what I was wondering.
whoooo hooooo ANIKE!!
Well done anika.
our neighbors had trees too and I would go find their pecans and stack them up
whoo hoo anike!
TY everyone
gg anike (and thanks for the clue)!
it mattered in the many people were surprised that my White sister would think she might be compatible with a Black man's kidney
she and he wrote a book about it: Black and White and Read All Over
blood
is a funny thing...
I have to go but does anyone need clues b4 I leave?
it knows no bounds of socio economic states
thye wrote about affirmative action and how Blackand White people were all surprised
Blood is a funny thing but it can be incompatible even with blood relatives.
it's kind of depressing jmc....in this day and age that that would mean something....other than we are all human beings
Warren -- the guy she gave the kidney to-- used to come visit my mother in the hospital and shock all the nurses and doctors saying "I've come to visit my mother" (he was very Black)
it's hard to break out of old biases
he maintained she was the mother of one of his kidneys
sigh...for an old dog I still have some ideals left (silly me)
the three of us were all shocked by the reaction but could not ignore it
We are all humand beings and whilst there are some undeniable physical and physiological differences between the races, matches can be found more often than not found.
lol, jmc
thats really sweet!
OK, I'm off - the conversation seems very deep and its my anniversary so going to spend time with hubby. Bye all
happy anniversary!
happy A anike and no it's not that deep lol
happy anniversary, anike!
anike - that's where you should be! Enjoy your anniversary.x
TY - happy babbling
Not deep, barely skimming the surface. Just another night in Babbleland.
I just don't get a lot of people tho..my philosophy is....live and let live...
for example...the olympics are happening this winter in Vancouver so the "torch" is being carried throughout the country....
wouldn't it be nice if everyone felt that way, just. there wouldn't be hate or wars
What I've learned over the years from this chog and others is that most people are good at heart and most people, whilst national stereotype teasing goes on, just want to get along.
it is in Montreal now, and there was a f&&&ing protest group about the torch...I mean...c'monnnnnn...get a life people
what are the protesting? the carbon footprint?
what's the problem with the torch?
the whole olympic thing :( I don't know but at least that's harmless...
How many times have we had the 'stupid Yanks' convo on here, not started by me and sometimes not even involving me? Then there are thee insensitive Aussies and the buttoned-up Brits.
lol jac...what about the canucks....no equal opportunity bashing?
Then the Americans think the Canadians are their 'hick' neigbours etc.
o I don't care when people do a little bit of yank bashing as long as they don't get too carried away
I think I just said that, LOL.
depends on the province, just. lol
I have canadian nephews
well they used to but now that they get well over 50% of their oil from us, they changed their tune! lol
I have relatives in Canada who went out there in the early 60s and who now have great grandchildren out there.
besides i think I will never forget during the inauguration of Obama and how all the babblers changed their flags to U.S. flags it was soo sweet
man, i've never thought of the canadians as hicks.
actually we are a much more progressive society than the yanks (whom I love dearly and wouldn't want to share a border with anyone else, exept maybe GB or AUS) lol
I have many friends in USA (admittedly mostly ex-Pats), in fact I have friends and family spread widely over the globe.
hmm are you progressive because you use a knife and fork to eat a hamburger?
*giggle*
lol, jmc
ouch jmc
lol
Was a bit concerned about Obama recieving the Nobel Peace prize after sending more troops to Afghanistan this week.
I remember how shocked I was when I saw that in Calgary
I wrote a blog about that jac
I'd be shocked to cause I've never seen it (never been to calgary tho..)
http://www.centeronconscience.org/blog /dec10-09.shtml
jmc - don't make me laugh 'cos it makes me cough, which, after having had 2 kids, makes me wet myself when I'm hacking up 13 days worth of snot virus.
Did you, jmc? (Blog) Link please.
I am helping you to clearout your sinuses jac
but first you have to describe the hamburger and are you sure it wasn't a yankee tourist eating it?
I am quite sure.
hmmmm sure sure? lol
although I was even more surprised when I watched a Greek (in Greece) eat peel and eat a banana with a knife and fork
we can "afford" to be a more progressive society, due to 2 main factors....
yes just?
1....We are only about 33 to 35 million strong....
hi all -- back for the last 70 -- think it might be tough sledding. And no -- even though most Americans think we live in the land of ice and snow, we don't have any!
2. We don't have the same history of blacks and whites, civil war, etc
hi cyber
I think I have quit
no but you have some real ugly relations with native people
hi nan, i'm just heading out. good luck with the grid
I am still shocked at how prejudiced some people from the south are, though
well nan we got plenty of ice and snow right now
I was on a bus in Calgary where the bus driver kicked an Indian off
I was surprised to see a man eating a pizza with a knife and fork a few weeks ago.
they even do that in northern U.S. jac
I eat it that way jac cause if I don't...at least as soon as it's out of the oven, I'll always burn the roof of my mouth. Ow
I saw a northerner eat fried chicken with a knife and fork
Hi cyber. Oddly enough, I thought the kidney story might originate from the South.
jac, i eat my pizza with a knife and fork
I was informed by a fellow traveller on one of our walking tours of London (he was from New Orleans) that it didn't matter that not all of the neighbourhoods destroyed by Katrina have been rebuilt because "they belonged to people we don't want anyway"
we southerners are definite slobs
these days it's best not to eat food with your hands....H1N1 and such
actually my niece who lived in one of those neighborhoods in NO would tell you that is exactly what happened
jmc - my ex bro inlaw is a policeman in Calgary, recently went there from UK police. He says they are so brutal he has to turn away or walk off at times. He told my kids that, so not sure what it's all about.
nighty night, everyone *poof*
PIZZA is an Italian finger food! LOL
i am shocked with how prejudiced northerners are since they tend to claim otherwise
bye lbd!
Don't start me off on the non-regeneration of New Orleans again! I'm hoping Obama's new position might rectify that.
jac did you get the link for my blog?
can't happen in NO without the city administration wanting it
jmc - can you use tinyurl for the link, please?
brb
http://tinyurl.com/y97ns8m
Done it now: http://tinyurl.com/y97ns8m
??
tiny url just makes it eay to find in one click, rather than new window, click one half, put it in, go back, click 2nd half, put it in.
Dah! You got there before me jmc.
interesting that it came up with the same tiny url
Got it now jmc and will read it later.
sigh...my son fell on the ice tonight outside the metro and his foot is all swollen :(
jmc - well it would do. That's what tinyurl is about. It makes a long link much shorter.
oh dear just!
have him elevate it and ice it!
he fell in such a strange way
I assumed it would change each time
How did he fall, Just?
No, jmc.
we iced it all evening..luckily i have a new fridge that makes crushed ice sigh
apparently not jac
he fell on a patch of ice outside the metro (tube?)
poor thing
Oh, I thought you meant he landed in a bad fashion, Just.
I gave him one of my crutches that I had for my crushed heel, this year :(
he did jac...he fell on his foot wherebye his foot turned up rather than down
He might need witch Hazel and some warmth to ease the bruising and pain later.
ouch!
al 6/27, please?
pay insane taxes and god forbid they'd salt the sidewalks :(
Well Just, if his foot turned up he's probably damaged his Achilles tendon (Back of heel).
no actually he didn't jac....(I did though so I know what that's like)
cyber - al6/27 a + make of jeans + consonant.
I still can't walk properly :( but hopefully it will come
ty jacula
I learned so much about heel bones and ankles and achilles tendons and ligaments
well I got 1/2 way and I think I am gong to call it a night!
its a night!
*poof*
night, jmc
Just - sidewalks/pavements aren't cleared or salted now lest anyone should slip and fall, and make a compensation claim against the person or authority that cleared/salted it. Compensation Culture began in USA and is now a health and safety blight on the rest of the world.
gnight jmc...just a few short ones behind you
y/w Cyber
you know what they say about fighting city hall? well try claiming against this city, fat chance
Yep.
plus we are not the litigous society that the USofA is....sadly in a way
cause maybe if we were, then the damn sidewalks would be salted
a new "cottage" industry has sprung up here....clip on cleats lol (true)
Most people in the world slip or fall, have a quick look round to check no one saw them doing it/making a fool of themselves and go off. The new order says we should hope lots of people could bear witness to us tripping over something that wasn't there/ not seeing the lamppost right in front of us etc.
actually 2 guys had to help him up...luckily there were 2 caring people near him who did so
speaking of the us - hello babble friends, from your friendly neighborhood yank!
oy I still have 2 BT's :(
That makes a nice change Just. At least they didn't just pass by so as to not 'get involved'.
Hello fn Yank.xxx
yeah for sure jac, kinda restores my faith in wo/mankind at least for today
heya trif
gl 7?
Howdy!
hi trif
gl7 plural of gl6/33
The old order of things said 'keep your eyes and ears open, watch where you're going and if you do do something daft, pretend you didn't.' LOL. That's how 2 WW's were won.
sorry -- gl 7/36?
ya think jac? lol
cyber - gl + anagram of the vegetable that makes you weep when you cut it.
ty jacula
I do, Just! Keep on keeping on was the motto.
y/w cyber.
there are a lot of words here I've never heard of before
ooo thx jac great clue
It's a constituent of dynamite.
did you know that before this grid jac? hehe
dont' think I am gonna get anywhere near finishing this one, but the journey is fun!
Ah, the sound of the sea in both of my ears has stopped for the moment. The 2nd antibiotic tablet must be working. I'm totally deaf in the left due to the infection plus a solid plug of wax, plus the warm olive oil I've pt down there and the wodge of cotton wool to keep it in. The right, where the eardrum was about to burst to let the gluey pus out has also quietened down.
oh my jac poor you :(
Just, I did know that, yes.
well, that's a lot of information jac! ugh, sounds awful!
well you're a damn smarter woman than I!
the warm olive oil sounds comforting....never thought of that....
Trif - maybe you didn't study science?
here, for wax build up they suggest hydrogen peroxide 3% solution
actually, how embarrassing is this? I have two degrees, and one is in speech and hearing science! mind you, I have been out of college for decades now....
The journey is fun - words well spoken, or rather typed. That's the point really (about most things).
mi 5/14 following the breath freshener?
To act wrongly, cyber.
strange that "intel" is not an enable word....
ty -- always seem to miss that one!
I think "it's all about the balance" might be the slogan for my life....and "the journey is fun"
LOL, like I always miss aunt and niece, cyber.
LOL I always miss "rein"
I'm not an aunt, though I am a niece.
I can't say I am ever thrilled to see the "c4" in here -- and I am starting to think a plot is afoot. That word has been in 3 of the last 4 Sundays, I think....
I doubt I'll ever be an aunt now. Though I am a stepaunt.
oh, man, jacula! just read your bacon muffin recipe - they sound really, really good!
I rebroke a broken molar yesterday. Rang the dentist just before I went to see the GP about my ears only to find his surgery closes at midday on a Friday. Must remember to ring him on Monday to repair exposed dentine before Christmas.
I'm an aunt but I'll never be a grandmother :(
Trif - edit, copy and save the recip and try it out.
geesh, jacula, what a week you are having!
and yes my only child, my son is married
LOL - already have done so, jacula! of course, it won't be as good, since we don't the nice cuts of bacon you all get over there
I think my neighbor might trade with you, Just 1 - there son met a woman in June who has 2 kids, a 3 yo and a 2yo. They got engaged in July, and a baby is due March (you can do the math on THAT one!)
that's some pretty aggressive dating!
omg, I just typed "there" son instead of "their" son - shoot me!
Trif - I'm going to ask Santa for a new body, well, not eactly a new one. I'd like the one I had when I was 25. I told Stepd this earlier and she went through some complicated verabal procedure about cutting the head off and putting the head I have no on top of it. 'Because,' she informed me when I asked, 'You wouldn't have beeen the same person then.'
yikes...tri
I ask for that every year Jac- doesnt work
BANG!
oy jac :(
DR!
dr - lol.
Hi Trif!
I am WAY behind on this ugly grid
Jacula, your SO might like the body of a 25 year old too - you could make it a group gift! LOLOLOL
heya DR ltns!
how is everyone tonight>?
me too DR about to give up on it
me too Just
it does remind me of my friend Nora - she heard her two little ones playing - girl around 10, boy 7. Girl said "now sam, this is how you play barbies - I take all the clothes from MY barbie, and you take the clothes off YOUR barbie, and they try on each other's outfits" Sam: "why don't we just switch their heads?" Oh, how we rolled! The absolute differences in the play styles of boys and girls, neatly demonstrated
hi dr
down to 4 now -- all v's
Hi NAN!!! Good to see you!
I had a body to drool for at 25, but my Stepd might have been right about me getting it back with my present Grumpy Old Woman brain in it. I think she kind of likes the faact that I take no shit and deal none unless it's deserved.
I am down to 110 LOL
trif, that is too fabulous LOL
Trif - that's hilairious!:-D
de rien, une!
2
I am chuckling now, remembering....

wtg Nan!!!

Une -- great icon!
any help for the do 7 please?
jilli, shhhh, don't te** anyone but it's actually a chocolate LOL
do 7: scottish teacher
or do + mickey's rodent girlfriend
thank you!
my d-i-l drives me crazy -- she bought her daughter a puppy (boston terrier-chihuahua mix) as a surprise present. This daughter works full time as a teacher. Her live-in bf goes to university and works as a bartender. Who is going to look after this puppy?
ty Nan
that would make me nuts too, jilli :-(
isn't your dil's daughter your granddaughter?
d's done
I just got a bubbly messaage on FB from granddaughter about this. I wanted to scream.
go trif!
Yes, trif.
my brother bought his daughter a weimaraner (she's in college in a shared house with other girls) . . . he ended up with that dog living at HIS house . . . then he bought her a labradoodle (another very big dog) and now THAT one is his as well
your brother must like dogs, une
don't get me started on designer dogs. At least I hope this puppy came from a shelter.
AND both dogs were very expensive purebred dogs when the shelters are FLOODED with wonderful dogs needing homes!
t's tumbled
Labradoodles are NOT purebreds
maybe that is the secret DIL plan all along - she wants a dog, but not enough to go balls out and just get one. This way, she can volunteer to "look after" it, and any probs get blamed on someone else, since it's not HER dog
go DR!
I like other people's dogs -- ones I don't have to walk and don't have shedding and smelling up my house.
well, you know what i mean -- very expensive pup from a breeder
Big difference, une, and that person doesn't desrve the title of breeder.
now both dogs are grown and huge and spend lots of time at doggy daycare . . . groan
woohoo down to 90....
Nuff said -- as I mentioned, don't get me started.
go, dr!!
ty Une
Jillibus, we have already lived though quite enough dog breeder drama on THIS board!!! LOL
gl clues?
gl4/6 gl + 2 vowels
gl7/36 gl + anagram of weepy veggie
Trif -- dil HAS a dog -- a Lab mix my son looks after because she works full time. He is an artist-photographer and is at home.
shirl -- think of the n 5 word that describes an innocent and substitute the gl for the n
great clue, nan!
TRif, that's why I said Nuff said.
great clues guys
good lord - what IS it with her and the dogs as gifts then? people are so strange, aren't they? I got my little man at a puppy rescue and he RULES. LOVE him.
I called my granddaughter HER daughter, because she has totally dominated her and inculcated her with her ideas which usually are opposite to mine.
OK, I've blown my top -- thanks for letting me. I needed it.
off to work on my photos for a while -- bbl
bye Nan
i am off too - need to sleeeeeeeep. No alarm tomorrow, YEAH!
gnight Trif!
Have I chased everyone away? :(
bye nan and trif!
i'm still here slogging away, jilli :-)
Im here
hellloooo all!
Well, I can clue if needed, une.
Hi MPitt :)
Hi MP
thanks -- i may call on your help in a mo :-)
and hi DR :)
hello, mpitt!
Une, that choc looks delish
ugg on this grid!
Hi Jilli-
Yes indeed, MPitt
:-D
g's gone!
go Une!
une I think your icon is a chocolate coin...ummm!
it is indeed :-)
cute icon, MPitt :)
I noticed today that the little pkg of chocolate coins only contain four or five at most...seems years ago there were plenty in there...sign of the times
ty jilli...I thought it was adorable too...such an animal lover I am!
Consumer Reports calls it Black Hole packaging, I think.
oh my I am talking like Dr. Seuss I think....
Consumer Reports is one of my favorites
last mi7?
MPitt, I've seen one like that with Christmas balls hanging from the antlers too, lol!
I remember cans of tuna used to contain at least 8 oz or maybe even 8-1/4 oz. and now they are only 6oz!
mi7 -- same 3 first letters as previous + not dead
thx jili
crazy word
and if cereal boxes get any more narrow they won't even stand up on the shelf!
plus they're half full
to be fair to the tuna companies, we have to have smaller serving sizes now because of the mercury
it makes me mad that the manufacturers think we are so stupid that we won't notice these things...remember a half gallon of ice cream, well try to find a half gallon container now...very small...
hi hurshy
hi... just bringing in a bit of dark humor
LOL hurshy...I still love "Charlie" tuna
my husband likes dystopian literature (like 1984, brave new world, etc) - i want him to write his dissertation on how it's now outdated because we are living in one.
Jilli, absolutely on the half full...
Hmmm, hurshy...
first mi7 please?
not half full, half EMPTY
I read Brave New World when I was 12 and re-read it several times.
anyway... now that i've pessimisted you up, i'm going to read a bit. ttfn.
fist mi7 -- the centre of the underside of the foot
center + bottom of shoe
LOL, hursh! See you after the flip?
ty got it
hurshy...my optomistic side was showing *blush*
lo5 after cut of meat?
"Hey, Lo***, Lo***!"
well at least it's been a nice chog tonight since I still have 114 and admit I will never finish this one...but hey it's fun anyway!
that's the idea, MPitt
just not seeing that lo
I agree...I really look forward to babble time....
OK, lo5 -- Brit bathroom + that is, Or Internet Explorer
k, got that clue!
LOL!
get the other one now, Shirl?
al5/12 and al6/21 please? my last 2 words . . .
al5/12 -- everything + overdose and pl
THANKS!! Firewords!
YAY une!!!
good night, all! see you tomorrow! *poof*
Night une!
Time to change icons -- next theme is Moons
Any clues needed before I do?
I think I'm crying uncle and go looking for a moon
greetings
Might as well -- this grid wasn't much fun
78 to go
It took me a moment to figure out why you would look for a moon....
Moon icon posted
Harp, cute kitty costume!
