the only things which have inspired me here, sandy, besides taking photos of dogs and garden (millins!), are making drawings of quince
hmmm, I have eaten quince with cheese and wine but I have never seen a quince I will google it

they are beautiful and smell divine (so I put a bowl of them in the kitchen in autumn) but are too much trouble to cook or make jelly from as they are seedy and grainy
interesting looking - the quince jelly we have with our cheese is a dark wine colour
The quince needs to be cooked for hours and hours to make the paste
but this week, I will make currant jelly as the birds are eating the ripe ones like crazy! it's my vitaminC mainstay in winter
here, when neighbors make it, it is bright yellow!
My mother used to make apple and quince pie - very nice

we really only have two seasons here whereas you have the four - I love reading poetry about the seasons (like wordsworth) and imagining how beautiful it must be
November is a horrid month but March is much better although usually wet but them wet is what keeps us a 'green and pleasant isle'
HEad for the Lake District then sandy, incredible scenery and you can get all 4 seasons in one day sometimes.
It is where Wordsworth wrote a lot of his poetry if I remember correctly.
we have a beautiful willow tree in our back paddock and it has turned golden amongst the evergreen trees and i always think of gerald manley hopkins poems 'margaret are you grieving over golden grove unleaving"
I always think of the lake district and walking where Wordsworth and Coleridge walked

The only time I was near Vermont on a business trip was in the depths of winter - have wanted to return to see it in the fall eversince.
The fall is my favorite time...no bugs for one thing. The foliage is, of course, tricky. Some years it is fabulous, others more muted, so visitors sometimes get disappointed when it doesn't match the postcards, but it is always lovely/
Ups and downs Eva but getting much joy and smiles out of having a garden again.
I would love to see it some day. The fall is my favorite season, trees in all shades of red and brown and orange the most beautiful sight to me.
The garden is an amazing companion, isn't it? Even when sometimes the body doesn't allow for more than a few minutes of weeding, or just looking.

Sprite go put some beer in a saucer keeps the snails away and wont hurt the dog
There's something about the waiting, about having to accept that you do what you can to help things along and then have very little control over the outcome....snails, grasshoppers heating the basil, waiting weeks for something to bloom and then coming out to find the deer were also waiting....a lot to learn about when to accept, when to protect boundaries, when to share, when to say "enoiugh".

Snails drink beer get drunk and that is it for snails. Snails eat snail bait fall over dead then so does the dog and that is ver very very bad
lol Eva - I learnt that lesson earlier this spring as there were things I was going to cut/chop but didn't and they have turned into lovely plants. as the old addage goes - patience is a virtue.
Right now we have spinach and kale coming out of our ears. The peonies have just bloomed and one poppy is about to open (if someone hasn't eaten i overnight) The snails have gone totally gaga over the delphinium this year. I have to remember herin's beer suggestion. I used to do that.
I would never use any kind of poison where Terra could get to it. Couldn't bear the thought of something happening to him.

First we had an unusually hot early spring, so everything was in danger of frying, and things bolted. Now we've had nothing but rain and cool temps, so things are looking pale, but the weeds have run rampant. WE won't get potatoes for months yet, but I have had the first strawberry.

I have wineberries that a friend gave me which should fruit for the first time this summer. I think we do have it here FM - roses are so finicky. I've just been lucky. My biggest problem with roses is protecting them from rodents and frost.

She would mix about a teaspoon of liquid dish detergent in a spray bottle of water and just give each bush a good misting. You will have to repeat it every few days, especially after rain or heavy dew. Also, make sure that you do it in the evening so the sun doesn't burn your babies!

when my son (now 46!!!) had a tantrum at two, I used to go in my room and cvlose the door. He was too big for me to lift. It always worked.
When a child is 6, I think you just say "If you scream like that, a neighbor will call the police and they'll take your parents away." That works, too.

I remember seeing my parents phot albums of us. My older sister had pages and pages or her, there is less than a page of me, 1 picture of my younger sister at about a year, my one brother has a picture of him at baptism, and the other one at 2 years old. I vowed never to do that, so took millions of pictures; put them in the old albums (with the acid paper that faded colors) and took those apart to redo in the right albums. THAT is where I am now

Is doing much better but we still dont have much for answers yet. He collapsed yesterday - heart rate went over 300 for about 40 minutes. Being a weekend, they dont run any tests. He is stable and feeling fine - wants to go home but needs a constant cardiac monitor until they find out what is wrong
