I dont know if this will help. When my mother was a child in Russia she had a Persian cat who disappeared and she came home a month later. My mother told that story over and over to me. Everyone was amazed but there she was bedraggled.
He had sinus issues the last couple of years...yes, cats get them too! And part of me thinks it was just his time.
