Sounds like a lovely excursion, nan.
Oh! Nan was in OR?
I didn't realize you were from Oregon, pini. So we are (sort of) neighbors, as I am in Seattle.
she was and she didn't even call so we could have coffee...perhaps another time ;)
hi and nbt

ha8 is the name of probably 13% of all mexican restaurants in the US

Took time out to do Xmas wrapping -- pooped now!
could I have a clue for ya4 please
never mind got it
all chrissie pressies wrapped and accounted for, just have to cook turkey chrissie eve and take it to dtrs next day...having a cold buffet type thingo, usually too hot here for anything else.
hello dizgrannie
hey Ruby, all ready for the big day?
please could I have a clue for the e in the middle column for nbt.
try ea 4, think thats the one
about half way is all. Not such a big day around here; all our family is very far away, but cards are sent, capon and snails are ordered, stuffing ingredients are ready to use (all brought by friends from the US) AND we had more snow, so it's very beautiful. Oh, and the wreath is on the door!
for nbt, I need the r. How can there be any r words?
LOL @ the wreath on the door, thats about the only decoration I have up.
hi {{ruby}}! :o)
That one comes from the other e disgrannie
Ruby...rh 4 and 5...babblets
{{dfm}}
rh4/5 the bird
aaah, I forgot those, ty diz
ok Jiv, try ec 4
:o( totally not a babblet...
Years ago my granddaughter was disgusted that we lived in such a black and boring house, so now our house it lit up like a Chistmas tree and people come from miles around to see it.
:o( I'm moving out on Christmas day
{{dfm}}
that sounds lovely, Jiv.
if this grid has a t, there'd be a million words!!
that is lovely about your house, jenny
I still can't get it even with morewords - obviously my brain is not working too well today
well the 3rd letter is an H and another vowel....shhhsh told tell anyone...LOL
you must be dazzled by the lights, jenny
It's jolly hard work especially as my husband can't walk very well at the moment, but I do like it in the end
told = don't
got it!!! thanx for being so helpful
{HUGGLES} to you and hubby, Jiv.
why jiv? Do:
yay, half! now I can get dressed!
see you later!
Back in September his kee suddenly (for no apparent reason) was unbearably painful. He said he would have to go to hospital, which for some people doesn't sound a lot but as he would go when he was having a heart attack, perhaps tells what he was like. His knee is "a complete disaster area" and he will have to have a knee replacement after Christmas. Added to that the cartlidge has come adrift at both ends and keeps getting caught in the bones, hence the very bad pain.
see ya Ruby...xxx
Luckily he is one of those rare men who NEVER exaggerate or complain about pain.
I did another disappearing act, sorry. Now it's bedtime. I don't even have nbt -- will be back tmw off and on, when back gets tired from wrapping stuff.
'OUCH' hope all goes well for him.
Oh the poor guy, jenny! I hope painkillers are helping in the meantime.
o you mind if I ask what age group he is in?
he's 70, but thinks he is 45!!
bye {{ruby}}! aww :o( poor jiv's husband...
LOL Jiv, bet the g/kids seem to make him think he is younger...my dad did
yes, that's true, we have 1 grandson and 5 granddaughters and they all live near so we see quite a lot of them, he is a different person after they've gone. The 2 teenage girls can wrap him round their little fingers!!
can anyone direct me to a site where I can find all these little thingos you put in and their meanings...eg :o(
diz, try googling "emoticons"
but most people don't put a circular nose in theirs...
our 5 g/kids start from 10 down and they all have their Grandad wrapped around their little finger, think its because he doesn't work anymore and has more time now...LOL
ok, that's nbt so I can go to bed now :-)
I don't usually talk on the chog just lurk, but it's been nice to chat this morning. It's 8.30 am in Oxford (England) and I am going to start my mammouth present wrapping session.
So I'll say goodbye now - happy babbling all
bye jenny -- happy wrapping!
night jilli! Have fun wrapping (I think) jiv!
And goodnight/day from me too.
thanx Jilli, just did and printed a couple of things out.
oh great, diz -- rather fun, eh?
and *poof*
yep, now I know what things mean, knew some of them but not all, thanx again...xxx
Hi buddy
back for a couple of minutes and, hopefully, a couple of words
yay it's {{ruby}} back
are you moving far, dfm?
moving back home, five hour car ride...
I bet everybody will be happy!!
yeah, then a week after that I'll have to move to university... again.
if you were my son, I surely would be.....
I miss home... especially the water softener... but also mom's food :oO~~
have to go again, 94 words now, see you soon dfm!
bye ruby!
(psst you're ahead of me! :oO)
I'm going to go to sleep, night all :o)
knock knock
Hi there lynxxx!
hi FM
Chat has been v quiet. All well with you?
Very well - was just checking for any knock knock Lyn jokes - but no
Hi girls....nice to see you both!
Am over the house thing and now thinking about Xmas - although only small - as my kids will NOT have children!
I knew I should have responded 'who's there?'
hi Flask - ditto
Hello Flask, haven't seen you for a while
Am fine thanks!...Been having a break from babble for a while!
Is it snow as well up there with you Flask?
Are you coping with the weather where you are Flask?
It is yes!.....was very bad last week..
There is no shortage of weather conversation in the Northern hemisphere - I do feel sorry for you all - must be hard to cope with the cold/chill let alone inconvenience day after day after day
Looks like Belfast/N.Ireland was covered last night. On the news they said it was the worst for 25 years.
Oh we're getting used to it now.....slowly!
Hello, All :-)
Am I right in thinking there are a few new faces here?...
Stew had his yearly injection today in his shoulder/neck this arvo. You would think his whole leg had been cut off. He is 'very sick'. Such a sook!
Parts of USA and Canada have really been badly hit but I think they are more set up to cope with it.
Hi Zooz
and some 'oldies' missing?
Morning zooz!
Hi Zooz!
Poor stew, give him hug.
There are lots of new faces Flask but still alot of the old babblers are around. It is just a quiet chat this morning.
No hugs - can't touch his shoulder - it is VERY VERY sore
awe poor baby :)
I been here for a couple of days now....just lurking tho'....
How's it going zooz?
From Carlee & Cross's (Canada) conversations they have been stuck indoors for a few days - everything was closed, including the roads
You don't get snow Zooz? does the sea air keep it away?
Yes i was listening to there canadian radio station the other day, did not sound good at all, and Carlee`s, area had a state of emergency.
hi, all. This is too funny: every day at my job, I sign each report I work on with my name, my professional title initials, and with the ps4...
We did have 4 inches a while ago, Lynxxx, but it did not last long, and no more snow since :-)
Fingers crossed for this w/end zooz.
LOL Angel.
hi Angel
Yes i heard it was going to be a down pour of snow..Hello, Angel.
i see my 2nd favourite game is in the grid.
Break time over, TTFN.
Take care, FM :-)
bye FM
Hi everyone. Waves at FM's departing back.
Hello, Sally :-)
This grid looks hard today
hi Sally - the last 70 are hiding for me - and I have nothing bigger than a 6 mind you
Only just started myself, sally, so only upto 31 words.
Morning all. Sally, have you been around since NB was here?
Hello, Molly ;-)
Today? No, only just come on. Saw (yesterday?) that he had made a brief appearance and said he didn't have malaria!
If he was on today I will look back in the chog.
That's all I meant. Just wanted to make sure you knew. Hey Zoom.
I think someone meant well but caused all the confusion.
if he didn`t have malaria, what did he have?
(Not NB, a secretive friend of his).
No idea zooz but I think he is in hospital.
He didn't say Zoom. Just that he was in the hospital and that he was in good hands.
Thanks by the way Molly :-)
As long as he is getting well thats all that matters.
Here's hoping all the good thoughts and prayers from his Babble friends will set NB on the healing path.
Yes Molly, and I hope it helps him to know that we all care which is why we were so concerned.
My phantom today is sperm. : P
Ditto, Molly
Mine is pilchard :-)
mine is : peach
We had some snow here yesterday, so there is a two hour delay for school. Which means I go into work late, as I have to make sure my son gets a bus. So I have a little extra grid time.
mine is chassis
And cheese - in fact I had to just check it to make sure it really wasn't possible!
lol
mine is search. And good morning my dear friends!
BBS just having a late supper aka dinner. Hi Trif
Hello, Trif :-)
Hi Trif! Nice to see you.
Enjoy, Lynxxx :-)
Just wondering if we could make a complete sentence with all our phantoms.
made a big ol' batch of choc chip cookies yesterday. trying to think of reasons to not have them for breakfast.....
oooh i would love one, Trif :-)
I made little cheesy things for a party I was going to, and wondering if I could have some for lunch :-)
Love choc chip cookies, but have never made them.
oops. those cookies just sent me to the pb. I will leave a plate of them in there for us all
Oh! ty Trif :-)
someone said cookies...
good morning crossy!
Hello, Crossy :-)
howdy trif,zooz;))
I take it your hydro is still going strong, Crossy :-)
i have the top center r, but wonder -- is it considered a babblet, or is it a common enough word that it is just a word word, if you know what i mean
I would use those as words, Trif, but perhaps because I am "into" poultry
It may just be used more in the UK though.
hmm. yes. i see. I always think of it as a southern US word, but I couldn't tell you why I do.
brb
my initals are in the grid today -- eac. that's always a little smile from the babble god....
Sally and Trif are in the PB eating chocolate ch4 cookies for breakfast. *Passing the fresh ground coffee and hot tea*
I might have had ONE, molly. it's sort of like a donut, right? (reach)
And if y'all don't mind waiting a few, I will warm up the cinnamon rolls I made yesterday.
yes zooz,storms are over....for today
snow banks are right up to the stop signs now,cannot see any posr lol
The top row r makes me think of the actress.
post
molly, LOL. When I read that I just saw "top row" and I was trying to read the top row across and was so confused!
oops! puppy walkies...brb
Baby needs to pee! Its so cute right now...wait a few more weeks!
At least you can get around now, Crossy, which is good news.
Hello, Car :-)
yup,soon it will be a year old,85 pounds,laying in the livingroom farting and chewing on your fav dress shoes and trying to whizz on that shag rug in the bedroom
indeed zooz
Yes Trif, that hot new actress Ecrlo Fatoosh.
So Trif, excepting the age and weight, given what Cross said, it will be like having another husband. : P
........
Oops, meant Car.
i do not chew on the wifes shoes and have not whizzed on the shag rug in ages!
Shag carpet? how tacky do you think I am, crossy!?
LOL
and if this big boy stops at 85 pounds I will be delighted.
good morning car, my dearest one
first thing i asked you was how big the feet were lol
that's a funny thing - puzzling funny, not ha ha funny. his feet were quite teeny and sort of pointed when we first got him, and now they are more like puppy feet. Like clubs on cards
I don't believe that ha6/7 are words lol!
hi all
TY Kallia
yw lynx
Hello, Kallia.
hi zooz
the winter sun is rising through the woods in my back yard, and is lighting up the right side of my face as I sit here typing. it has no warmth, of course, but it somehow warms me anyway. it's this really orange light right now, which somehow feels warm, even though it isn't
Trif, I just took a photo of that very thing. Pretty. Kalia, ha6/7...slang term for taxi drivers.
It's white outside my window, hard frost. Lots of smow forecast for tomorrow
Sounds wonderful, Trif...i too have the sun on my face, which is warming me..which is nice.
ah thanks Molly, never heard them before, it was desparation got them lol
just got the ha6 & 7 thanks, Kallia.
here there is no sunrise,just this hazy diffused ball of gray clawing its way above the snow clouds... and i am off to m-i-l,s house tc all...poof

Take care, Crossy.
bye crossy

thanks Lyn too

nbt
Phantom: anoesis
The floor already feels much stronger! They put in some concrete yesterday, so won't be back until Monday. Unfortunately, there is now a significant crack in my ceiling, but I have sent an email to Matt to have him check it on Monday to make sure it is not structurally damaged. That and all the dust in the living room and house that i now have to clean are the only drawbacks!
you been hanging out with babble rabble again godthaab?
impressive phantom!
I'm not sure what that means...
I am so glad BR has been back! :)
dust is easy to take care of, and is much easier than picking up a living room that is in the basement! delighted to hear that the progress has been swift with results already
Back, sorry had to print something special for husband.
me too, car!!!
Just a bit of bother, the extra cleaning, before the holiday.
babble rabble always finds lots of tricky phantoms like that, godthaab. miss seeing him, is all
is fernanda just off the table as an option?
I just don't have the cash.
Oh, I get it now. This is one of my favourite words.
I'll get it done.
I can recommend those miracle cloth things that mom has. I have several as well, and they did a wonderful job on all the drywall dust I had to deal with during our construction. 20 minutes a night, and you have a clean house
unfortunately, the fibers get stuck in the rough wood that mom has on the beams and some of the walls. I will use them for the flat surfaces, but ultimately the vaccuum will be my best friend! I am going to wait though, as they will be constructing the new stairs next week and will be sawing and cutting and hammering and sending up a new flurry of dust!
wow, souinds like a really big project, car!!
very long overdue peri!
sounds even
LOL! Didn't even notice it Peri!
umm. I wouldn't! do a quick vac now to get the fine old wood dust. the new wood dust is a lot heavier and doesn't fly around as much. you have lots of little lungs living in your house, and one really old pair, and that old wood dust is not good. Seriously, I wouldn't wait
:)
OK.
Score! The muffin I nabbed is chocolate chip...not blueberry! YUM!
Hi all....clue for pe6/24 please?
phone, bbl
Don't have it flask!

Love your snowman icon, Helen..lol
Thanks! I love that little guy - he's also my desktop wallpaper. I'm in Chicago, so you have to be cheerful about the snow.

Ah, prefer coffee. *Pours large dollop of brandy in while no-one is looking*
its a little early for the little something extra here :)
well you offer a nice hot drink on a cold day & you get it thrown back in your face..the cheek...LOL
Sorry zooz, don't really like tea:-( Passes it on to carlee.
did you make your own designs on the christmas card, Sally or do youhave a program on the computer?
i have coffee....tea...yeuck
well i suppose it is not everyones cup of tea..hahahaha
Our own designs, using a program for the Mac a bit like MS Publisher, called Pages, and using our own photographs.
cool, nothing like your own photos..well done.
Some of them feature cats in slow :-)
i will take the coffee, zooz.
slow or snow?
i just downloaded safari and looked at the pages overview....my like it...i want a mac next time...
enjoy, Eva :-)
Couldn't do it last year because my printer was rubbish, but have new special printer now, a Canon Pixma, which is brilliant for photos and happily takes card. Don't like doing cards on thin paper and folding them, think it looks less professional.
Sorry, slow cats in snow!
plus the paper starts to bend after while, card much better choice.
And fireworks for me.
good going zooz
Yes, using 250 gsm which is nice and thick.

@hospital, waiting for Dale to come out of surgery. I hate this
sigmoid something
oh no....waiting is the worst
what is the surgery for?
diverticulitus (sp)
is it fairly routine surgery????
cutting out some of his intestint
( looking around for scrabs....)
a bowel resection...
is he having a resection or a colostomy?
( i had resection years ago )
yes, but I watch too much tv
which is he having??? resection or colostomy
neither, sigmoid resection
ok..so no solid food for the next week basically
lol
now a days, 1-2 days
what funny?
when i had it was NOTHING by mouth for 10 days
I cook so bad, I dont think he will mind the no eating thing
i had NOTHING...lip balm for my lips
so much has changed carlee, now it is hopefully othroscopic
only a 6" cut and a couple of holes
i have a lovely scar... 5 inches... horizontally
they want him walking by the end of day
oh my goodness
i could not roll out of bed.mind i also had appendicitis...and the appendix ruptured...i had an abcess adjacent to appendix the size of a cantelope... and it caused the appendix to rupture
he will be in hospital from 3 - 7 days
i was in for 11
sounds horrid
I hope you are amazingly well now
oh man..all i wanted to do was wash my hair...
got that covered, he's bald
healthy as a horse..mind my diet has had to change a bit...raw anything rough on my system and i cant tollerate pork very well
they said he need not care much about his diet. Just do what he has been doing after the first bout of diverticulitus
due to age, they had him do this surgery
ok
how much longer in surgery?
hour'ish
not bad :)
Hi babble friends
babble is a good way to distract you for an hour :)
hi bb
yep

hi bb
hahaha...u will get better with time :)
how does the as7 end?? does it come off the 6
not there yet sue...sorry
hi beach, carlee, sue! :o) as7 are (esp. meditative or religious) self-diciplines
hi dfm

as7 are (esp. meditative or religious) self-diciplines
lovely dfm -- but the def. really doesn't help -- break down clue perhaps?
fireworks
yahoooo annie
congrats, annie
as7 sounds like the time the kids play on the play ground during school
as7----first four letters of the word above and then a 3 word plural
congrats annie!
I have to find out how much a letter to Ireland costs to mail from the United States, anyone know? S
ty sue and annie
okay, on my way to find out, bye dear babblers
got all of the 43 s's ! have to celebrate each of the small steps along the way
a&c, crushed
yes you do
he 6, please?
ha6 sack
a small material ball you kick
isn't that the ha 6?
that is what you asked for
no - I asked for he 6
he6 is archaic spelling of a certain protective headgear
sorry
glasses needed
lol -- me too a lot of the time
only archaic headgear I can think of is helmet
both of you are using the he4
to the pb with you both
clue for the he 6, please?
ye4 nan, that's right... now find an old spelling for that.
does it start with the he4?
oops... heh, did *not* see that he4 o.0 no... it's monosyllabic, too.
no idea dfm
he6 - he+ beginning of car + myself and I
(disappearing back into the ether from whence I came)
ty vic
hi vic! :o)
ty vic, great clueing
but too subtle for me...........
What kind of a word is that?
an archaic one.
But got it now.
I still can't get the as7. I'm not well again- I thought I had shaken it- I'm annoyed.
can you believe it has taken me 113 words to find the da4?
So hello, Babble.
You can't spell the Russian house with an SCH in it? Who decides that?
yes sue, not uncommon ;oP I haven't found it my-- erm, I just found it myself, and I have 145 words now.
hi kap! :o)
first three letter of the he4, last vowel, + myself and I
I can't get the as7 even though it has been clued a million times.
All you phantom shiksas...
Kap...as + the c word for stop without the a, plural
as + 3rd letter of alphabet + es4/4
TY. I was so close...
First four letters of as6
This grid is one big SNEEZE!
ahh-ahh-ahh...
Labri'ut Kap
Phantom Kidney and knee problems
Molly, you are going to lose your shiksa credentials if you keep that up.
se 6/24, please?
I'm a part time Irish shiksa and a part time honorary Jew. Just call me Yentleen.
Se6 is I think a blood infection that is usually fatal.
Oh, that's the 21.
don't have or know that one either kaplan
se6 would be hard to say if you have a list. It is sort of sounding like Cinderella's nasty stepsisters.
That's a stretch though.
I mean lisp.
I know you are all sounding out funny s words right now
With a lithp
exthactly.
Think about Cinderell'as half sibs without the last syllable, then remove the t.
Thadly, I don't get the clue
kap can you give a definition?
Blood infection.
I... have that one, I think
duh -- ty kap
That's the 21. I don't have the 24.
and the se 6/24?
The 6/21 is a variation of a kind of underground tank people have in their yard for waste.
se6/24 add a German pronoun in the middle of an ocular action
missing one s5 from S@(3,2)... any nudges?
don't know any german
OMG! I got a dfm clue! :-)
hi helena! :o)
got it!
lol -- a rare event helena - lol
hi all!
The German pronounn sounds like a word of disgust.
also a fish disease
yay, fireworks :o)

proud of my self for remembering pe6.24.. thanks to former grids, the bird was spotted, lol
se7.48 is not a good word to find at lunchtime, ugh

and ruru
Yum.
evening all - i hate snow
it tried to kill me this evening on the way home
tires to kill me every day:/
ooch, glad it didn't succeed, Kazzer.. close call?
tries
hi df
hi kazz! :o) aww, what did the snow do?
ive never been much of a fan of apple jelly or apple butter.
then some nice gooseberry jam for eva
our neighbors used to make a jar of apple butter for us every christmas. my parents + brother would go ga-ga over it for a little while, but i never took to it...
never had gooseberries...
yes - my friend who drives was luckily only doing about 3 miles an hour when we slid off the road - twice - found a nice soft devon bank to gently slide into
i am glad you are fine kazz
Yikes.
scary, white-knuckle time.. awful
no damage but was nearly a clean underwear moment
you must try them eva
gooseberries are lovely
anyway i must go for a short time and sort out some dinner and then i will come back for the final 62
eep, glad you're okay kazz
ttfn, Kazzer..
what do they taste like?
every time i hear of gooseberries, i think of willy wonka + his snozzberries.
anyone have the yu 4/8? I can't seem to see it
they taste like gooseberrys;)))))
they are a taste of their own
uh-huh, helen.
hey all. here-ish while I play with the dog.... then determined to finish!

oh oh, red bars here.. off I go, poof
a down east type of yes
well not quite...
i think they say ayuah or something like that
hey, hey, hey now... I talk like that!
~;-)
see, MY plural of casual "yes" was not found in the dictionary
op of nope
Okay, why is yu 4.8 a word but the ye variation of that is not. Argh!
bye aloy!
Yeps, yeps and yeps Helena.
hey and bye aloyisius! sorry I missed you!
hey again all... durn dog ran off!!!!
tomorrow I will find a long chain for when he wants to be outside. Even when I am RIGHT THERE he skedaddles!
can anyone clue the pe 5/12?
pe5 porridge hot?
haha, i will have to google, i always thought that was "pe4/5 porrige hot"
close... add a vowel
got it, thansk!
:-D happy to help!
chain, stid?
chain? *confused mama look*
oh, I think the pumpkin seeds are done. BRB
why a chain for your dog? Wouldn't a non-metally leash be more comfortable?
oh. We are rural -- no fences around yards. But I have a bad hip. Leash doesn't work unless tom or one of the boys is around. Need to be able to let him out for "business" without him running off. Wasn't a problem until I started back to grad school. Has been getting worse over the last few months.
So, a chain is in order that I can attach him to and let him take his time. 75-foot chain from the back door would let him reach most of the area I can see, and then when the weather gets better or the fellows are home he can be in the yard without it more.
hello all - stid, maybe time for a visit to vet - we are fenced and our lab jumped over and was off - neutering worked wonders for the wanders
<-- Lucky came neutered. He's just high-maintenance, as shepherds tend to be. He wants me to know how it feels to be left behind, I think!
but that's a good thought!
oh dear stid
how are you ursh?
I am well ty stid - just getting into high summer here so getting very humid and yourself?
well... enjoying time off. now down to only two weeks left I am dreading returning to school.
oh I thought you were enjoying your studies?
taking today to rest, last day of the boys in school. We can spend some time next week "clearing the decks" and getting the house in shape for January.
I liked them until the student teaching. Had a very poor placement, toxic environment. BAD experience in many ways, but I had a solid unit that I designed and taught and most of the children were successful. For a first attempt, my own work wasn't horrible. But the experience was highly negative.
now, I am just trying to rest before the winter quarter when I will not be working directly with children, but in grad classes again. HATE the boring lectures! LOL
brb phone
gah. cable company -- something about needing to replace the cable modem. *sigh*
hello all, short vent. went out to do errands, came home expecting to have pizza for lunch. It was all gone!!! I specifically said before I left that if they were going to eat the pizza to save me some. but they did not. I am not a happy camper
oh oh... *hides from grumpy peri* *offers choclits*
in the realm of life it is a small thing, but irritating none the less especially since I spoke to them before I left. saying th ey will make it up to me does not work
ty but I have Dove choclits here and they are not helping :(
nope. what about making them work for it? *visions of dust-free shelves and fresh litter box*
oh, that's too bad, peri.
If I knew that someone had bought something or really liked something I would not eat it without asking first
Hi everybody. Peri.... The rotters! And even worse, if you were looking forward to the pizza. I'd be just as annoyed!
are things otherwise going okay? I know you were looking at getting the new Moosewood cookbook
hi peri, soodle! :o)
hey soodles! dug out yet??? *looks for top of roof above snow*
things will get better very shortly not worth wasting much more energy on it.
I did get the New Moosewood cookbook, not sure either of them will like any of the recipes but oh well.
aww :o( poor peri...
I made chicken paprikash the other day and they did not like it. I thought it was just fine.
People who ate my pizza for their lunch when I specifically asked them not to, would be fixing their own dinner tonight.
they must be somewhat picky eaters...
Hey Stid, Df et all. Stid, we had a brief respite but now the snow is back with a bang. Global warming my *ss. (I know, I know.....tongue in cheek).
otherwise things are ok. my sister scraped off my car last night after a light snowfall. totally unexpected behaviour :)
Oh, boy, Peri. Have I got a recipe for you... and everybody else. Hold on a second till I get it.....
they eat terribly
it's chilly here, but clear. No precip due for a week. Which is unusual. Usually we have rain every day between November and February.
or at least it feels that way!
that is nice of her, peri!
???marigold???
it waas she usually does not do things like that
the one and only
I apologise in advance for cluttering up the chat log, but this is worth it...
A Christmas Cake Recipe Ingredients: * 2 cups flour * 1 stick butter * 1 cup of water * 1 tsp baking soda * 1 cup of sugar * 1 tsp salt * 1 cup of brown sugar * Lemon juice * 4 large eggs * Nuts * 1 bottle Brandy * 2 cups of dried fruit Sample the brandy to check quality. Take a large bowl, check the brandy again. To be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar. Beat again. At this point it's best to make sure the brandy is still OK. Try another cup... Just in case. Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 eggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Pick the fruit up off floor. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the brandy to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift two cups of salt. Or something. Check the brandy. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or some fink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window. Finish the brandy and wipe counter with the cat. Bingle Jells!
go for it soodles!
<-------- Apparently, the no fruitcake sign means nothing.
roflmao!!!!!!
I LOVE IT, Soodle, thanks so much. it put a smile on my face!!
that is JUST TOO FUNNY!!! *gasp, choke, chortle* *reaches for the whisky*
lol. Now, that's a recipe I could handle.
:-) (apologies to Judi....)
there is a goldfinch on the medlar outside the window again... a little female, I think. Has been there frequently for a month. I love watching the critters in the yard! (Just wish one of the critters was my Lucky)
All fruitcake should be thrown out a window.
Just don't throw out the brandy....
ditto on the fruitcake
I really like apricot brandy
<-- has never had fruitcake :o\
Trust me, dfm, you don't want to try it. It's wretched.
some people like fruitcake...
Once again, proof that aliens live among us.
My mother makes a sort of nut cake with pecans. I love it!
I'd say the same about brandy ;o) Or most any form of alcohol, really.
<-------Quite likes fruit cake.
*quickly hides antennae with attractive babble headband*
noswaith dda pawb - evening all
hi glant! :o)
A long time ago, a relative sent us a fruitcake for Christmas. I couldn't imagine what we'd done to pi/4 them off so much.
noswaith dda! hello glantarell!!!!
hello stidmama
Gotta jet. See you kids later. *POOF*
later judi!!!
bye judi!
Fáilte Romhat, Glan. Your welcome, Glan :-)
can you spell that phonetically for me soodle? and do you have white stuff?
*grin* greetings across the irish sea... wish I were there!
FWAL-chuh, I think?
not sure about the R word though, soodle?
Fall-cha Roche. Glan. And buckets of the stuff. Its nighmare.
Spot on, Stid! The 'roche' bit just personalises the 'failte/welcome' bit!
thanks for the phonetic - i always wondered what it sounded like! nightmare white stuff here too
My son is heading for Pembroke dock this evening to get the ferry home. I won't sleep til he arrives here. The roads are diabolical. :-(
we have worse... our stuff is clear.
ios the ferry actually running? the holyhead one isn't. the roads are very diabolical - lorries littering them all
:-D thanks for the lesson, soodles!
how is it worse of your stuff is clear dfm?
oh, I hope your son gets home safely, soodles... *worried friend-of-mama look*
because it means you can't see any of it... and it turns most of the road into a giant skating arena
aaahhh, i believe we are having ice too
but it wn't be nearly as bad as yours
Ditto Stid! And Glan, I didn't realise the Holyhead boat wasn't running. Oh he 4/10....
the temperatures here are fluctuating wildly above and below freezing... makes everything a nightmare :o(
oh, ice is the WORST. I hate ice....
i am just hoping this is all cleared enough for me to travel on monday as i am supposed to be going to stansted (5 hours away) to fly to germany
well then, there's nothing to do but... *wraps dfm in bubble-wrap securely and puts a nice warm hat on his he4*
germany? whatever for??? it's snowy there too...
my daughter and the grandchildren live there so i am spending a week with them
heh, speaking of warm, I almost caused a traffic accident yesterday because I was wearing T-shirts and shorts outside in a snowstorm
well, that's a fine reason! I hope your trip will be uneventful -- a friend in Amsterdam put on her facebook page that everything there is pretty much shut down at the moment.
*exasperated mama look at dfm* you're as bad as my kids!!!
how? >.>
i think my whole journey is likely to be a long nightmare but the tickets are paid for and i really want to see the grandkids
Hi all......any clues please for se6/21?
hi flask! :o)
You wrap them up in bubble-wrap, put a wooly hat on their heads, and what do they do.? Go out in a snow storm wearing t-shirt & shorts. Sheesh! Kids!!
it was only because I was too lazy to change out of my indoor clothing...
Hey dfm...
Glan - do you have far to travel to get to a motorway?
hey flask!
se 6/21 is plural of the 5/12 that looks like a "place" in a paly
Hi Stid!
or play... *sigh*
maybe I should holler for the dog again. brb
se6/21 is bacterial infection
thanks!
motorway is 35 miles away but dual carriageways are 16 or 20 miles respectively
You should have no problem, Glan. I'm sure the main roads will be cleared. :-)
stidmama i am feeling dense and didn't get you clue!
back
oh -- was it a se 6? sorry... I thought you wanted the sc 6
i'm hoping the main roads will be cleared by monday, just depends how much more we get tomorrow
either se or sc will do LOL
time for crossy to head to work.tc all and happy babbling!
poof!
bye crossy
I missed cross???? *very sad mama look*
se6/21 is a bacterial infection sc6/21 are opera vocal solos
bye crossy!
slope
oops
*puts soodles' fruitcake in PB for glantarell*
crossy blows stimama a kiss and is really off now....extreme poof!
thanks dfm - have the infection but know nothing about opera - and thanks for the fruitcake mama - this alien likes it as long as it's moist ;-)
clue for ch6/24? (not the one that's a plural of a 5)
there he is. *stern mama look and runs to door to get dog who has again lost his favorite toy*
ch6/24 is a step in a square dance
thanks for that one dfm. *grumpy look* darn dog!
he is EXHAUSTED.
*googling square dancing*
put him in his own PB ;o)
he is completely in his own PB! rofl
he is SO subdued. I wonder where he went?
I need another C from the top please? I have money and what wine is aged in...
you might want to ca5 your other two C@(2,1)s in your cellar.
thanks dfm!
top row is grey!!!
ooh, could you clue the ea6 then?
take it ea*y then plural that helena
with a T on the end it would be the simplest answer
ahhh!
thanks
ahh, this song gets me in the christmas spirit every year... (only in the recorded version, the "fruitcake" guy is actually the "hangovers" guy...) http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=vsvY8PbhZi0
thanks mama
hey EvaN! lunchtime?
ok, i'm failing at the square dancing step... is there another clue for the ch6? Not the one that means run after
almost go-home time! just about 45 minutes to freedom. :)
i am back ti finish my last 52
helena -- swap the last to letters of that one.
Eva!!! That song is a tradition in my family. Every year my son and I email each other RIGGING UP THE LIGHTS!! : P
molly -- i love the kid. "buy me somethin!!"
hahaha! thanks eva and dfm. The issue is I was spelling that word way wrong!
hey molly and kazzer!
okay, down to 30. will look at email, change sweater for a school-worthy one, and go get the elder stidkid from school. Really hope he had a good last day!
good day all :) STIDDIEIEIIEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! *huggles*
*hugs and choclits for all* *poof*
NO!!!!! SPRITELY!!!! *pulled back into room by invisible force*
***hugs***
I am OLD now! the elder stidkid just had a bday!
so lovely to see you... am sorry you have to go. And gratz with the elder stidkid :)
are you snowed in too???
Hi sprite! :o)
Eva, have you heard the whole album? It's hysterical. "The Restroom Door Said Gentlemen" is one of my favorites.
totally. Can't remember seeing this much snow all at once. Took my love 3 hours to get home. And my son yesterday (excursion to Cologne) even 9 hours!
oh my -- that is a LONG trip for your menfolk!
I know that monkeygames is pretty much snowed in too -- apparently the buses were all canceled!
it was close to 3 am when I finally could pick up my son at school last night, lol. Poor kids.
oh. The propane delivery truck is here. gotta call tom. brb
same here, nothing seems to ride anymore.
bye hun :)
bye stid!
it is very beautiful still, though. Our garden is a fairy land right now.
where in france are you sprite?
I am in the netherlands, actually. Close to Amsterdam.
oh sorry - the stripes on the flag are in a different order!
yes they look like eachother a lot, don't they!
and orientation too glant ;oP
yes, I'm having a dull day!
how long a drive is it normally to cologne?
*proudly notifies the K is grey*
Normally it is a 4 hour's drive by bus
my k was one of the first LOL - how long did it take yesterday to cologne?
to cologne was 4 hours... back was 9!
fireworks!
gratz, Helena!
ouch
thanks
woo hoo helenea
i felt like a genius monkeying the se7
congrats helena! :o)
that is a good feeling, Helena
monkeying? and a clue to the se7 would be nice
Glant, people around here refer to randomly trying words as "monkey typing".
monkeying = typing in all kinds of combinations until one takes
thanks for the explanation molly - i have started doing a little monkeying myself
it was like lalala random letterssss OMG!
back.
you may get se7 on a boat
wb stiddie!
hi again mama
thanks helena - got it
ohhhh good one, thanks Helena. Good clue too.
so. let's do the math, shall we? 116 gallons of propane for $300 = WAY too much! *sigh* but at least we will stay warm for the next couple of months. I really really really want a wood stove!
I can imagine, stiddie, that is a lot of money. But staying warm is not a luxury.
at least it's been a mild winter so far. usually we need close to 200 gallons for this delivery
no, staying warm is a necessity. I think it is also still marginally less expensive than electricity. but if the prices go up much more, we will covert back!
oh! sprite! I have been spending my afternoons this week in my friend's 6th grade classroom! I am back to LOVING it and thinking I will be an "okay" teacher!
I usually don't put the heat on until the kids come home from school. But now, with this cold and snow, I have given in. It is way too cold.
116 gallons? :oO
we also cook and heat water with it, dfm -- and when the power goes out we can run the well and the house for about two weeks if necessary.
we have a 500 gal tank
aww :o( I want a gas oven / water heater...
stiddie, you will be so much more than just an 'okay' teacher. You will inspire people. You know: 'Education is not about filling buckets. It is about lighting fires.'
when we bought our land gasoline for the cars was under $1 a gallon (now hovering around $3) and propane was about 1/4 the cost of electricity
they're what I miss most from Hong Kong...
you're from Hong Kong? very cool. except where you live now is considerably COLDer! *grin*
that's the quote i have above my computer at work - i work in education
well, them and the fact that HK shops tend to have the AC on to 15C or something. :o)
thanks sprite! I know -- and I am hopeful that I will light fires in the right places! LOL
that is wonderful, Glantarell. Is it Yeats? Not sure...
brrrrr. guess they are trying to even out the humidity?
heh, sprite beat me to disagreeing :oP
you will, stid. I know you will.
yes i think it is
lol dfmchfhf
I think it would be very cool to coordinate learning for real castles...
that is exactly what i do for a living
we don't have castles here. a lot of mudflats and mountains, though! LOL
wow
caernarfon castle, chepstow castle, caerphilly castle, castle coch and another 20 or so
someday, I want to visit a real castle. *sigh*
ac
oooh! "coch" means RED!!!
ac
is it really red?
hey julie!
yes coch means red
*pounds julie on back so she stops coughing*
that is so cool. I love that language, Glantarell. Wish I could learn it!
the paintwork on the exterior is deep red - it is a fabulous castle
ach, julie, ach....
wow. *runs off to find pictures*
hi julie! :o) *wonder what is with the "ac"s*
this is what some of it looks like:
OMG. It's a real NORMAN castle??? with turrets and everything!!!
http://www.wales360.co.uk/castell_coch /
ac means 'and' in welsh...
actually it's a victorian copy of a medieval castle
but there was a nmedieval castle there 700 years ago and they re-used the stone and the floorplan
Glantarell, in all honesty... welsh cannot really be learned by foreigners, can it?
wow oh wow! it's very pretty --
it is a lovely castle! Let me know when you go visit, stiddie, I will come too :)
i have a knight in chain maille and a storyteller who deliver my education programme there
coch ac gwyn trws (red and white pants?)
if you come to visit i will give you a personal guided tour and get you in free LOL

are even hleping me?
<==closet religious fanantic
here's my motto, je: Things turn out the way they are SUPPOSED to...
which kind of agrees with your motto :)
Bingle Jells!
hailey what letter are you trying to get a word for?
it just means something else is coming along that suits you better

Jemmy = Irish whisky. An acquired taste.
Hello, peri. I am doing just fine. Thanks for asking.

Nope, don't know those Kap. *Turns in Honorary Jew Card* For those interested, Allan Sherman is all over YouTube.
The M4 webcams show the motorway as remarkably clear of snow

*Sending sparkly Angels out to guide Soodle's boy home safe*
I got that, Glan. Many thanks.
Game shows were so much wittier then. Groucho as mystery guest, Judy Holliday, Eleanor Roosevelt...
Then there's all the "You Bet Your Life" clips on you-tube. I've been sick so I watch them for nostalgic comfort.

Oh, thank you, Molly. As I type, 2 out of the 3 are safe and well. Once I get my boy home... the weather can do what it wants... If I have all three chicks in the nest, I wll be the happiest woman in Ireland.
Today I have nasalstagia.
I gotta go have dinner.
Molly - I met up with my sister last nite, and gave her the pine candle holder/candle/good wishes, & the scarf I knitted for her. Tears actually flowed from her eyes in appreciation.
I can't thank you enough for the idea.

I have found that as long as I'm with someone dear to me, lines and crowds don't matter so much.

I mean de nada
this is the first time since 2002 we have not had to write a tuition check. Tomorrow we eat meat. :-)
lol
yay mom!
last tuition check as long as someone doesn't decide to go to grad school...
money will be easier as soon as he can find a job. :-( He has worked at the university and you can't work there after you graduate
as my grandkids did
I know Jillilbus, they both want to, but so far they have not signed up
my sons managed to get grad school paid for largely with grants, work/study, etc
oh Doren, that would be wonderful if only
it took a lot of looking and scrounging to find things to apply for, but they thought it was worth their time, fortunately
Shay wants to be a librarian, but the universities here do not offer if, he would have to do online courses
my dad did help pay jeremy's med school tuition, but he got his PhD paid for with teaching positions,
it*
Bye bye, gang -- gotta go! Cul8r...*poof*
(hugs) to Dorens dad
David is at Simmons College getting his Master's in library science... and got grants, etc
bye jilli
bye bye Jillibus, nice to see you
Not many grants available here
that would be something for Shay to look into
Alex would like to be a teacher in Cinema Studies, or broadcast media
Quick question for the chefs out there -- does "chili sauce" go by another name? Can't find it in the grocery store...
Heinz makes it, it is in with the steak sauces at our stores and it is call Chilli sauce
i know there was something from the American Library Association. THe fact that he worked at Harvard LIbrary during his undergrad, and was 30 and very clearly dedicated to his choice of library probably helped.
same here evaN.. heinz makes it
Eva, it's in the Giant where the ketchup, mustard and condiments are.
MOM!!! Congratulations to you, your dear husband and your son!! His name is Shay? I dream of a grandboy named Shea.
Shay has worked at our public library since graduating high school in 02.
then he should definitely look into it Mom
Thanks Molly. His given name is Shaler Owen after his dad but he goes by Shay
Shay graduated 2 years ago and now it is Alex's turn
Oh wow, what a gorgeous name.
Molly- Shay or Sheldon?
it is a country name ... named after his great uncle
Oops, congrats to Alex then. And to the proud Mama!
I will tell Shay about it Doren
Why am I blind? In Safeway now and just NOT seeing it!
Yeech is so a word.
oh Molly that is okay.
sure is kap
Shea...Zachary Shea. But his parents to be are stuck on Jack. I'm having fun naming and talking to my grandkids yet to be, until they get here.
eva you are next to ketchup?
You're Babbling in Safeway???
safeway definitely has it
Eva, it is a small bottle maybe 12 oz or so
Attention Safeway customer helpers!! Confused woman on aisle 10!!!!
Multitasking, are we?
Kap, you gotta love those Iphones.
of course you COULD go to the customer service folks and ask them
What are we coming to?
That's why I don't want an i-phone.
aha.. fireworks.. night all... see you around
Doren, what fun is that, when she can ask babblers?
Congrats.
Yes, in the store now. Yay for smartphones. :)
bye bye Doren, nice to see you
Me either. I make calls on my phone. And precious few of those. Don't text, don't have any "apps". And that's the way, uh-huh, uh-huh, I like it. Uh-huh, uh-huh.
All I need is to have internet in my pocket.
hello friends
Hello Trif.
Hi Trif
You all are smarter. ;)
I gotta go.
Our tech guy at work told me that he's selling his motorcycle because he's almost been hit three times by people texting while driving.
bye Kaplan
So, Mrs. Foster, did you find the chili sauce?
Hi Babble
in Kentucky you are fined $25 if you are caught texting while driving (or stopped) and $50 for each one after the first offense
Don't by the liversurst etc etc etc. Good night.
Hi DR
Wurst.
Nooooooooo... gonna suck it up and ask.
Mom, here, if there is an accident, and texting can be proven, a lawsuit can jump 10 grand.
Hi Mom! Good to see you
the one Safeway in the entire US that doesn't have chilli sauce and Eva is in it :-)
Safeway is evil. They probably have it hidden somewhere weird.
so good to see you as well DR
or sold out, it is popular this time of year
we don't have a Safeway here
It's a trade off Mom. We don't have your Honeysuckle turkeys here.
:-( Mollly
what kind of turkeys do you have, Molly?
I know. I went looking for them after your recommendation. But I'm happy with my Perdue that I brine. We have Butterballs, Perdue and some other brands I'm not so familiar with.
no Perdue turkeys here
Perdue is local. Their farms are in Delaware. Good poultry. I don't buy any other brand.
we have a local turkey farm about 10 minutes from us but we don't buy fresh turkeys
Poor girl can't even find it. She's hunting down the manager for me
oh EvaN
if you didn't need it this weekend, I would ship you a bottle
how about the ethnic section eva? Worth a shot...
Hi Jessmom
hi Mom!
3 people later, we have it!
Eva what Safeway are you in?
excellent Eva
It was hiding in plain sight.
get 2 so you have an extra on hand
Y'all thought it was ketchup, right? : P
It was hiding behind some misplaced siracha
Siracha??????
Hot Asian sauce
Oh pray tell, where does Safeway stock the chili sauce?
By the steak + cocktail sauces
And they are not with condiments like ketchup, mustard, etc?
Same aisle but up a ways
hi all... Molls..ur shopping and babbling?
sounds like our Kroger .... mustards then ketchups then bbq sauce, then steak sauce then chilli sauce and then hot sauces and wing sauces
((Carlee)) hello
And so ends our latest installment of "Adventures In Grocery Shopping". No Carlee, Eva is shopping and babbling. I'm not that coordinated.
Hi mom{{huggles}}
just checking my icon
Hello Inge

my mom loves mince meat pies, but I have never made them, and she will not be cooking this year
( making note to go to grocery store to get jar of mince for mom
oh thank you Carlee, what a sweet gesture

I have a good mince custard pie recipe. Custard on the bottom, mince on the top. It's the only mince pie I will eat.
be right back, going to go email KJE
i cannot guarentee you will have by xmas... a friend of mine sent a package 3 weeks ago from virginia...and i am still waiting...
hmmmm.... don't know about that, molly - I am not a custard fan, likely b/c I do ot like eggs and custard tastes eggy to me
dyes
Carlee, don't get me started on the freaking slow ass Canadian Post. Dan got more presents late than I care to remember.
OMG...so sorry! PB for me...where the wine?
well... ours is a bit slow atm for a reason... the storm that shut us down...shut down london again..and london was shut down for 4 days last week...
Mulled wine and cheese in the PB Champ.
pouring champ a glass of pinot noir...and passing a brandy ball
Ahhhhh...Love the PB!
Dan's was slow all the time. He was up in the boonies of Sudbury at the time.
and london is the central sorting for this region
mince pie with custard?? when u all say mince do u mean ground beef??
no no no...raisons and dried fruit...suet and booze
cos that sounds kinda gross!
can I just say that sounds disgusting?
its a very brit thing crys...look up mince meat pie or tarts...delish
ah that sounds kinda tastier
well... custard is egg...and eggs and meat do go together..:p
everything goes with eggs!
Champ, ever had rum raisin pie? Mince is very similar to that.
ok so i am guessing they are the same as our spiced fruit pies
No...
peen
sorry
I'm willing to try though. You never know till you try!
Oops! I'm out and crystalle is in the PB!
KJE, the recipe is on its way
oh Carlee, anytime is fine
Is it just me, or is this a tough grid?
it is a bugger Champ
Thanks...was feeling like an idiot.

hey Molly!
nite mum {hugs}....sorry am on phone
Stidders! How was your day?
good evening all
Allo Boo
This grid is getting on my nerves. How can there be 44 more words? It's a LIE I tell you!
well i have 36 left so there 8 more at least
my day was adequate, Molly! would have been EXCELLENT if the children had followed directions. They missed a chance to play this evening with some really amazing musicians. Oh well.
(((CARLEE)))
I have 28 to go. One for ea4 brain cell.
HOPE! Ok...going to get a brewski...that has to help...
Hi stidmama et all.
Gran Mere! Comment ca va?
I have 47 left and the inspiration has long gone ChampFit.
Exactly.
bonjour, Maman!
Stid, don't get me going on kids and the chances they miss. *Confused Molly Look*
phantoms abound!
Ca va bien. The concert last night was very excellent and today we have our Chirstmas tree in the house. My husband thinks because he saw the physical therapist today for his knee he can now move mountains.
and THEN... we were just getting settled in and the phone rang. It was my friend, wondering if the elder stidkid had her classroom keys... (YES). So we just got home again.
oh geez. So MAYBE he will make their concert tomorrow????
*exasperated look*
*Passing glasses of wine to Gran Mere and Stid*
*accepts gratefully, and looks for the whisky chaser*
It is good days only last 14 or is it 24 hours? Enough happens. Did I tell you about the bus accident in the parking lot?
???? apparently not...
Irish whiskey chaser coming right up!!!
Quaffing the wine down. Licking lips and looking for the bottle.
was it one of my kids caused it?
Just back with a brewski...cold beer, anyone?
as7?
No. Your children were no where in the area--that being another story.
Laughing out loud at Gran Mere. Passing entire bottle in her lovely direction.
*wonders if beer is good chaser for whiskey
gramma stiddy!!!!
and stiddy!!!!
oh kje, I need that one too!!!
Merci MollyL. Whiskey is a good chaser for whiskey--didn't your mother teach you anything????
why would beer not be a good chaser for whiskey?
haces
lol mama why would u come out with was it one of my kids straight away..........are ur kids as bad as mine lol
Hello carleekat in the northern reaches.
missed that lesson, I think. must have been the day I was 15.
so. this bus accident???
I have the as7...gotta figure out how to clue it...
and I should call my friend to see if her daughter is feeling any better... will keep an eye on the log. brb
I took pictures to show locations of vehicles involved and NOT involved. My car was NOT involved.
Whiskey before beer, never fear. Beer before whiskey, might risky. Correct Gran Mere?
as7 is being difficult. Any clue? Either way is risky MollyL.
good thinking, mother!
ok..so..36 words to go..this can be done...
Ahaha Gran Mere. That is why I drink them side by each. (Only sometimes)
im home, im home! thankyou all for your assistance. at least i wasnt just totally looney in not being able to find it!
Carleekat is Champ Fit going to clue the as7 or not?
I can't figure how to clue it! It means "strict self discipline or self control, esp for meditative purposes".
as7 is like the one above, first for letters then plural ending
Eva, I am still laughing my ass off at you Babbling in Safeway.
i had a devilish of a break up with whiskey years ago...i just put a shot of it in either apple pie or apple crisp...
ty
hi lbd
yw, hi everyone
hi kje
as7 starts like the as6 ahead of it..but ends sounding a bit like many outside school breaks
hi lbd
hey there dawg
Didn't have the as 6 either.
to go up...
hi champ, hi carlee
they couldnt tell i wasnt just texting. ;)
like champ says....go up
to go up, stidgmere is the as6
Well, it's true Babbling would look like texting.
Looking up. ty ibdawger.
yw
ae 7 ae + ce 6/21 but removing a vowel
So now waiting for lamb to cook in a golash style dish. Scones turned out well. Really nicer than biscuits and make a fine tea.
I MEAN as 7/32 sorry
brb
I can drink beer with the best of them. Liquor is another story. One shot, with a beer...once in a blue moon...mostly when a sedative would be in order.
as + ce 6/21 removing the #1 vowel
mmmm stid - i love lamb!
sounds lovely grammastiddy... here was chicken with a mushroom risotto and some glazed carrots...brandy balls for dessert
*Running to Gran Mere's house for scones and tea*
ty dianedecoder. Finally the as7 is mine.
:-) just call me diane
We must get our menus together carleekat and invite MollyL.
ha 8/55 pls
I can't make risotto except on special occasions. Would finish the whole thing myself...a favorite!
we must gramma :)
Okay diane it is faster and when I put my hands one key over it makes for a really strange name doamtedecpder/
sppanish house big
and plural for the 9
lol.... love it !!
that would take some decoding !!
Gran Mere, Carlee and I will cook. You can sit in the recliner with a glass of wine and tell us stories about the good old days. Date?
oooh..so much fun..yes molls we can do this :)
What good old days? Oh, you mean yesterday.
oh! BIG RED!!!! *happy mama look* and thanks for that AS 7... FINALLY got it!
yesterday WAS pretty nice, wasn't it, Mother?
We did have a lovely time stidmama. We enjoy all of the days only some parts more than others.
true enough.
now I am enjoying leftovers from last night while the boys eat pizza. waiting for tom...
Must remember the poisson du almondine Dan made for me once.
hm. not sure you should eat poison almonds...
sounds yum molls...not sure what i should make...
We enjoy fish but I decided (for old-times sake) to buy salt cod. It comes in little boxes. The instructions were soak for 4 hours.
aww, just chatted with my friend, who is totally stressing out. her uncle is in the hospital. she + her mom are his only family, and her mom (who would normally deal with all the hospital stuff) is on a cruise, in the middle of the ocean! so my friend has to deal with it all, and she hates hospitals and is just having a really hard time. thankfully, hes not in too terrible shape, but still, its a lot of stress for her...
The butter, almonds, and fish with a little white wine sauce is wonderful.
oh dear. (((hugs for EvaN's friend)))
oh dear....hospitals can be so intimidating
let her know that if she doesn't know what something means, or what is "normal" for the situation all she needs to do is ask.
Well, it is hard to deal with hospitals. I rank it down with dealing with the army--by the end of any business dealings one is ready to do really unlovely things.
Blessings to your friend Eva. My boss and her family spent the holidays in the hospital with her husband last Christmas. No fun.
medical folks sometimes forget that regular folks don't know what a nasal cannula is (nose-hose for delivering oxygen)
"One is ready to do unlovely things". Gran Mere, that is a keeper. I know of doing unlovely things. Especially in hospitals with loved ones.
ce6/21 pls?
hi all
hey TO!
oh..i was ready to do unlovely things this am to my ex
shes a smart (and tough) cookie. she will do fine. she just doesnt know when to take a minute for herself... she was chatting to let me know that she wasnt going to have time to cook a dish for our party tomorrow! as if i care about that with what shes dealing with! poor gal!
plural the ce5, TO
Hi TO good to see you. Ready to wander to the kitchen.
ok, will do as soon as i find it
good!
something new carlee, or more of the same?
As a tough cookie, I know that even tough cookies have their breaking point. Bless her heart for even thinking of explaining why her dish wouldn't be at your party.
ce5, means to stop
oh..he has decided it is time to start cutting back...he decided to cancell our internet...without telling me...on my birthday...
it was effective last night at midnight
i expectt omorrow to find it off..again
oh!!!! I FOUND THE 8/9 COMBO!!!!!!
*Putting on steel-toed boots to go kick Carlee's ex's ass*
geez carlee!
i told her absolutely NOT to worry about that. to try to come to the party if she can make it, just so she can relax a bit. but we would understand if she couldnt make it, and to not hesitate if there is anything at all we can do to help her.
your ex needs to experience some unlovely things, carlee
yay for stiddy
well done, stiddy
what nerve. He's a real piece of work, that one.
i figure what goes around..comes around..he will get his dues...in due time
carlee, easy to see he is winning this game
Some people just have to make others miserable. he needs a diversion. You are right...he'll get it later!
*Stid channels my Mom with "piece of work"*
thanks Carlee
oh, dear, carlee! what a piece of work.
Going to poof off so if you need me call. Just don't call me late for supper.
what did i do big???
*Eva channels my Mom too* Hi Mom!
thanks Mother. We are staying home now... will call tomorrow.
nite nite grammastiddy {{hugs}}
Bon soir Gran Mere.
night, stidgmere
Carlee, why does he control whether or not you have internet?
stid, are you done with classes yet?
b/c the separation agreement is not yet in place and signed....and he is still paying the bills
as per orders of my lawyer
molly, between "yummo" and "piece of work" are you sure im NOT your mom?? though, i dont remember having any children... ;)
yes, was done a month ago, but only "recovered" a week ago, and spent this last week for two class periods in my friend's 6th grade classroom remembering why I am going through all this hell.
lol, you are going to be such a great teacher!
*grin* I hope so, right now I am VERY unsure. BUT going to keep doing my best and hoping it's good enough.
Eva, you forgot about mentioning the "Put Another Nickel In" song. You could very well be a piece of my Mom's spirit. If so, good-o for you.
u are going to be great stiddy
ahh. tonight will be spent prepping for tomorrow. right now, im making hubbys aunts cheese + tomato skewers...
just think of all the futures you are going to influence! it's all worth the effort
yes, I foresee total world domination (or destruction) in another 20 years or so.... *rubs hands together gleefully*
Stid, lbd is right. You are making memories for kids. What could be better than that? Eva, try not to use "husband" and "skewer" in the same sentence. : P
stiddy. ..i agree with molls...when at guides/ pathfinders...it is my goal...every week..to make memories...
ummm... replace skewer with toothpicks??
getting those brains to turn on to reading and thinking and imagining things that may be...how exciting!
*Envisioning a slumber party in Stidville where the girls are all shivering, discussing the STERN teacher who told them what for about flying pencils in class*
I bought THREE manga books last night as a gift to the class. Some very reluctant readers, and I want to do what little I can to give them a chance to improve.
Oh SIZE LARGE HUGS to you Stid. Anyone who encourages reluctant readers to read is a miracle maker.
argh, manga...what a waste of paper and ink. but if it gets kids to open a book...
if it works dawg..it works...stiddy..have u ever read the great brain books by jd fitzgerald?
oh! those were good, too! Yes, that might be something to try as well.
it's just a medium i can't put a lot of stock into. not a lot of words in manga. lots of interesting artistry tho
when i was in school... my teacher got us hooked on them...and we would seriously bribe her....if we get ..blablhablha..all done this week...will you read to us all afternoon on friday ( class of 36 kids )
First these kids need to get through a "book" -- then we can talk about how to get them to read more difficult work!
howdy all and ((((stidmama))) for encouraging those reluctant readers
the purpose is to engage their ability to look for meaning... the pictures help them do that, and can promote the habit of checking one's understanding.
howdy crossy
thanks cross!!! ((hugs back)) *blows kisses to mrs cross*
The best story I ever heard about reading was from a special ed teacher. No one could get little Johnny to attempt reading. Then this one teacher, who took the time to get to know Johnny, found out that he loved to cook. Ergo, Johnny learned to read cookbooks and hence, learned to read.
betcha johnny was a whiz at math too :)
and the thing is, when you read at a 1st grade level but really are interested in more mature things, the manga books help bridge the gap.
howdy carlee and mrs crossy(elegant) says howdy as well
hi crossy. oh i understand the use of manga for your reluctant readers, it just bothers me that there are so many "readers" who only "read" manga.
hand handy
i swear all these pre made boil in bag prefab meals are made for those who cant do math...
he 6/s7 pls
~~~~~ <----- waving at Mrs crossy
yes! cookbooks are AMAZING for young and growing minds!
what is this manga?
hey SWMBO!!!! ****many many hugs****
enjoy the PB, swmbo! lol
Well, as an ancient, I can tell you that I learned to read on the Dick and Jane readers and the SRA reading program. Nothing drier than those and I adore the written word.
I remember SRA!
I did SRA too!
i learned on Dr seuess
manga are a sort of modern comic book -- literary stories told in part through the pictures instead of only words.
do you he*r what i he*r + gord H*** was the boss at WKRP and the maytag man
Totally addicted reader, and two out of three kids are the same.
he6.7 he + **tomobile + **, myself and I
tweedle beatles battle in a puddle with a paddle
yeah, but it did get old!
Calling all ancients! Form the magic circle and go select your SRA reading level color.
and on that exciting note, I go to my Robitussen DM. See you tomorrow.
thanks Ibdawger
thanks for the HE words!
sra! yup remember that program and loved Dr. Seuss and dick and jane
oh Kaplan... feel better soon!!!!
'nite Kaplan.
night, Kap. hope you feel better in the morning
Kap, may Allan serenade your dreams.
I think I had SRA too
Color coded...
all day, all night Cary Grant...
i wonder how many parents read to their children? That's what got me started reading and then escaping into more adventures!
(*poof*)
I read to my kids when they were months old. The Richard Scarry books first, Dr. Seuss later. Reading to your kids is magic.
so many parents don't read to their children. just as important, they don't model reading (or writing) much at all. They don't have books or magazines or newspapers in the house. The time they spend on the computer is game-based...
a wonderful bonding time, but also a time for sharing the love of books
*exasperated mama-teacher look*
I read to my boys during the days, when they were old enough they read to me... and tom read to them at bedtime until they were quite elderly... *wicked mama look*
Waving hi to my Dad. Who read to me and was my inspiration to become a writer.
how true that is Stiddy. I see that with my grands. Hence, I gave my grandson a monthy subscription to Dr. Seuss. Now they have to read to him and his sister!
i read to my kids all the time....
yes! I LOVED having a subscription to the kids' equivalent of "book of the month" club
alas...my son still hates books
also cricket magazine when it was brand-new!
One of my best kid memories is a time I was very sick with a cold and my then 8-year-old, climbed into bed with me and read me "Harry The Dirty Dog"
but then, those of us on this game are somewhat peculiar in our love for language and literature.
Is anyone old enough to remember the magazine "Wee Wisdom " ?
I suspect, carlee, that even if he doesn't like to read at least he can if he wants?
he asks his sister how to spell...
my son fought us on reading. now he loves it.
Carlee, any learning problems for your son? That can foster a hatred of reading, because reading is difficult.
and that's really the difference. one child today insisted he knew what he was supposed to be doing, then couldn't tell me what the key terms meant. *rolling eyes*
wee wisdom. not familiar with that, diane
I don't know that magazine, diane
I had my tonsils out 60 years ago, and my dad got me the subscription to that little magazine... I devoured it !!
too young ;-)
so cool for your dad to do that, diane!
no learning problems other then beating to his own drum...he likes what he likes..hates what he doesnt..and avoids what he doesnt at all cost...
I liked Highlights, that was a fun magazine, with stories and puzzles
ahh, typical boy syndrom, carlee. he'll come around when it suits him
Highlights!!! I still do the "find the hidden picture" when I go to the dentist.
I have several years' worth of highlights that I just couldn't bear to discard even though my boys are well past that! LOL guess I will have them in my classroom one of these days
lol, i think that must be required subscription for dentists!
My kids got highlights through the school ordering program... or maybe it was my grandkids.... LOL
scholastic book program. what a great way to get kids to read!
we got him highlights...we got him chickadee and all those...we got him books...word games...he hates it... unless he is trying to figure something out and reads a manual
Oldest granddaughter is 26, so might have even been her !!
I had a great love of reading all the kids books when I was younger. Then my sister turned me onto the Nancy Drew books. Loved them.
he's into facts, not the fluff. if he can understand manuals, he's doing okay.
my father was not a reader at all nor my momma.there were really no books in the house at all till a long forgotten teacher in public school worked with me till it "clicked" at about 7 years of age.then i discovered the schoolatic book program where you could order your very own books right at school!! and that was it! was haunting my parent for money and waving the book order form under their nose every other month;)
*grin* one of the manga books I got was a nancy drew...
m ops
good for you, cross! and here you are!
Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, Hardy Boys, Agatha Christie, Robert Lewis Stevenson...Mark Twain
Great memories. I remember waiting impatiently for my Scholastic books to arrive.
bobsie twins
*waits for swmbo to help me with the last 15 I need*
and here i am with books in the livingroom,books on the kitchen table,books on top of the bathroom toilet tank.....books..books..books
*Oh I was so hoping she would typo Boobsie Twins*
never really liked the bobsie twins. don't know why, just not into twins! lol
:op~~~~~~~~ at Molls
books, books, books... lining two of my bedroom walls, under the long living room window, more book cases in my office, in the kitchen, in the boys' rooms, in boxes waiting for more shelf space.
lol molly and when the books finally came,i would run home with them and not even open them right away,just savor them and imagine the worlds that awaited me between the covers,i would spend a few hours just ramping up the anticipation lol then dive in!
I have great love for Maurice Sendak. I spent many a fun time reading my kids his books.
some of the books I got in the summer reading program I have never been able to find anywhere else...
then my parents would come upstairs to see if i was ok cause i was too quiet lol
*suddenly realizes what time it is* tom isn't home yet!!! brb
Stid, have you checked eBay for those books? I have collected a few of my childhood favorites there.
stid,a good site that i love for the hard to find book is www.biblio.com
and they ship world wide
there are so many "new" kids books i want to read, Leven Thumps, Guardians of GaHoolie, Red Pyramid, Peter and the star chasers, Nick in Time...
and the site has a great and easy to use search engine to narrow down what you want
thanks! If I can ever remember the authors... or the titles... *sigh* it was quite a while ago, you know!
Cross, you are a staunch proponent of Biblio. They need to cut you a percentage of sales. And thank you for the heads up. I have ordered books from them since you mentioned them here.
i use to to order all my super favorites in long discontinued hardcovers
if it works well i do not mind pushing the name
I really liked Neil Gaiman's "the graveyard book"
good stuff molly!
Neil Gaiman is an interesting author. Nevermore was spooky yet so adventurous
Stid, try doing a Google search for the words/titles/authors you remember. I am working on collecting 60's versions of all my favorite Raggedy Ann and Andy books.
I will look through biblio.com when I can... (ebay scares me)
and that is me done
hey, what can I do to keep Koda off my bed without putting him in his indoor kennel...
you just have to escargot with the flow pini
...situation: if he gets to my room before I do he claims the bed as his own and won't budge :(
hi all
you owe her an apodogy for that one ru
hmm that's an easy one.. bring a cookie with you ... and pull him off the bed
(I reached for him to get him to move and he snapped at me!) :(
