*wonders how much it would cost to send a hit man to tie down one of josh's hands*
You guys don't know from snow -- Mt Washington on Vancouver Island has had a ton and it's still snowing.
not as much as you'd think, jmc, but more than you'd want to pay by yourself
I feel better then josh. I can hardly read as fast as you find words and type them in!!!

HI Jilli
how is your boy liking school this year? I hope he got another terrific teacher, DR
evening, DR
i will try to work on this tomorrow i am out poof
Thx for asking Bugs. THis years teacher is not as good but we are doing ok
Hi DC.
am 7 x 2
as long as you are doing okay.
THis teacher is not a reader ( SHOCK) and does not understand his love of books
so he talks to last years teacher about his books
how can a non-reader be a teacher?
how weird, DR, not to mention difficult
she is a math and science teacher. has not read any of the books kids read
I have to work with an English teacher who told her Grade 9s that she hasn't ever read A Midsummer Night's Dream!
no harry POtter, Percy Jackson, unfortunate events
shame on her -- she should read them as her homework
ta 7 x 2
that is scary Bugs! Jake tried to read the Tempest over the summer
Librarians are good for kids to talk to about books when the teacher is weak
the Dream was the first play I attended. I was 6 and loved Bottom the most but still figured out a lot of the rest
The librarian is fresh out of college and is just learning the ropes at the school
as8
halfway and off to take pups out to pee -- nite, all *poof*
night Une!
hi - bye une!
hi melon! :o)
Jake might like Sophie's World. It is an introduction to philosophy for kids, written in the form of a story. Very well done for bright kids
I will check that out! He is very into the differences in religion right now
I left the British school I went to in Shangahi when I was 12 so I know what we did there before that age -- and one was to write the Pyramus and Thisbe play from Midsummer Night's Dream
and it was a blast
Hi All!!! finally NBT's
That would be cool Jilli!
de8
hi diz -- wtg. I'm nowhere near -- mind still wandering sleepily
I think some US schools underestimate the capacity of children
ta7
"some"?
I agree!
even here in Canada the standards have dropped significantly Jilli
being polite, dfm
one of Jake's classmates is moving to China in 3 weeks.
but when I was in high school in the US, the English classes were very elementary
It will be interesting to Skype with his Mom about school
same here, bugs.
dr, that school I wnt to in Shanghai is long gone.
I think there is a grade at which a Chinese student outperforms a student here in Canada or the US, even in English reading comprehension...

it is the comprhension and vocabulary that I notice declining here dfm
probably, dfm!
And grammar is ghastly
so is spelling!
thumb spelling does not help with a good vocabulary!!!!
one benefit to American/Canadian teaching is... that they have have more of a social and physical life? I guess...
actually, no spelling helps with good vocabulary. it helps with spelling.
thumb spelling?
what is thumb spelling?
the phone speak that they type on their phones with their thumbs....
op 8; 9; 9; 8; 9;9;10;9...
as8
ah -- texting
I am sure it is not what it is called, but they type with their thumbs and leave out all kinds of words
thexting I think jilli
they leave out all kinds of letters - dint u no?
<-- doesn't understand that stuff... and his peers (and supervisors!) use that language in even e-mails and instant messages to me! :o(
and they use the shortest word possible instead of the most accurate word possible. Hence, very limited vocabulary
Lickety is up with an extra word
Lickety is up?
phant simitar
scimitar?
yes, Erda -- unannounced, which often happens when there's an extra word
alt. sp. I think, erda
Thank you, jilli
yes, scimitar
simitar is also a word, erda
can't find any of the ta7s... :o/
anyone have all the 8's?
I'm missing one
oh wow, did you say lickety has an extra word, jilli?
8s: as de op op and one more
i hope that sneeze did not just dislodge the medicine i just took through the powdered inhaler.
maybe it is shazam. i could have sworn that was a word
ty df!!
yes, josh -- he shows 196
isn't it shazzam?
shazzam shows as "not found in dictionary" on babble as well
shazam is a word! i think so anyway
My Chines nanny is here, pl too
hi crys! :o)
only if you marvel at it
hi dfm hi all
hi crystalle, you pro you!
Dr God sent me an email this morning informing me that a fellow babbler had given me the gift of pro!
mo8
oh, how wonderful, crystalle, welcome to prodom
Thankyou if you are in here .
ty for the dance, ruru
How nice, crys! A Christmas (crysmas?) present.

any etymologies (no clues or definitions please!) for the ta7s?
yes indeed, bugs
no idea yet, dfm
Z's Zapped
one is french, one is old urdu, and one is late ME
thanks josh... ugh, don't know any urdu >.>
the late ME one is current outside of the US
i just remember seeing it at some other point. i looked it up for the etymology
si 6/21 new word for me
that must be the s i am missing ty
found the ME (+to7 too)
hm. i just realized that when the cat lays on my like this, she is saying it's bedtime.
Lies, dc
the french one is a plural, btw
kitties don't lie jilli
well, i've been keeping highly irregular hours of late
they don't layeither, hens lay eggs
yw
sorry, the lie/lay thing is a bugaboo of mine
ru, my cat is a Siamese-if-you-don't-please, so she may lie sometimes i think
mo 8 was the last 8
thanks for the sing josh ;o) just found the french 7
don't get me started on laying and lying jilli..lol
ditto, ruru
Evening all. This grid started out so promisingly, withthe words just flying by, and then, brick wall.
grids are like that jan, good evening
hi jan -- and what else is new?
Some more so than others--the other night the grid was sticky right from the get-go. And tonight went from easy-as-pie to a stumper in the space of a moment, it seemed.
There is an aesthetic satisfaction in combos like the op sequence, though.
indeed so, jan
I just have one question
yes, ru?
What is that stun-gun, if it's not a taser or a tazer ?
And a frustration when the latinate nominal ending seems so fruitless, despite plenty of adjacent a's and t's.
what is so easy about pie?
i think that's stil a proper noun, christine, or at least too new for ENABLE
too new for Enable, Christine, and probably a trade name too
What a pain in the ear !!
good question, ruru
Enable used for Babble was compiled in 1997.
Perhaps they mean pi ??
I think it dates from the days when you could tuck any old thing in crust and call it a meal.
Lickety uses the newer one
ah, like a pastie
Lickety's uses Enable Millenium Edition, which has a handful (Enable-si4-wise) of new words.
apparently not the pasties I know
Also, according to one of my cookbooks, early piecrusts were just containers, not meant to be eaten. So there was no worry about whether they were sufficiently flaky and tender.
what type of pasties do you know, ruru? o.0
interesting, jan :)
Sparkly, sequined, with tassels
hey, cool, there is a second M. o.0
news just saying Mt Washington BC has snow 5 m (16 ft) deep
As opposed to Cornish?
that's good for the water supply, jilli
<-- doesn't get it, and probably should not look it up on Google images, right? Seeing from "sequined".
ruru's pasties would have tassels
which could be rotated in opposite directions
you got it, dfm
<-- learned that lesson after Google Image Searching ... uhh, a certain article of raiment of seven letters in length, starting with a P. >.<
Now you have me guessing dfm...
Pajamas doesn't sound problematic...
hmm... feminine?
*blush* got it...
(I also just *had* to do it during a lecture... in the front row...)
did anyone figure out which is the extra one in lickety's list??
not that I know of, dee
ty jili
it is shazam
ty crys
thanks, crys
Hmmm...I would have spelled it shazaam, but a quick google search found only about 90,000 aa spellings as opposed to over 2 million single a ones.
I thought it was shazzam
That one only registers 50,000. What's interesting is that google now serves as a huge corpus of English usage.
where's DOn Knotts when you need him?
<-----convinced that there are only 3 h's
ha 4, 5, 4, 5, 5, 6, 5

oh darn another blank tile - sorry dfm

hah, I sorta-hate that word, as its alternative spelling took me two hours to monkey, once >.> thanks ursh :o)
I though it was an italian street or square but I see it is a lariat
how come grimoire isn't a wod?
dunno ata :o( I found it too
annoyance
grimoire is an awesome word...
exactly!
what does it mean? is it English?
yeah, it's a type of book
a witches spellbook
what ata said!
fairly common usage too
maybe it is not really a word but just made up for a fictional story - and gathered momentum?
no, cos it's used from middle ages onwards
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grimoire
maybe enable thinks its french
http://ngrams.googlelabs.com/graph?con tent=grimoire&year_start=1500&year_end =2000&corpus=0&smoothing=3
pretty popular.
I was just reading it in Wiki....maybe because it is 'european' and Enable tends to favor 'American'
silly enable :P
appears in American English too http://ngrams.googlelabs.com/graph ?content=grimoire&year_start=1500&year _end=2000&corpus=5&smoothing=3
Ena
silly Enable indeed
anyhow - did you have a pleasant Xmas Ata?
Hello dfm & Christine too
hi lyn! :o)
it was ok, quite glad it's over now though! I popped in to see FM yesterday as a complete surprise :)
dc...i think you mean 'pasty'
although I *do* find Ngram *slightly* inaccurate at times... http://ngrams.googlelabs.com/ graph?content=Internet&year_start=1500 &year_end=2000&corpus=0&smoothing=3 (w hat's with that bump in around 1900?)
How lovely! I hope not 'alone'
well, just because we use internet in one way, others before could have used it theoretically or practically to mean something else
yeah, but check out the actual content...
"Many investigators have one or more computers connected to the Internet, often for no purpose other than to exchange electronic information"
any clues for mo8?
mo8/45 pl. mo6/21 dance
Would a collier who liked to dance drive a Mo6/21 Minor?
hi haz! :o)
Good morning/evening all.
Hello Haz!
Hello, lynxxx. How's the day going now that it's almost gone?
It has been a lovely day here, blue skies and just warm - and nothing particular to do but dabble about
Well, sure that's a fine kind of a day.
How was your Xmas Haz - still eating the leftovers? (think we will be for about a week)
We finished the turkey off last night and the leftovers now mainly consist of baked stuff which we can attack at leisure.
Christmas was fine - white and very cold but we've since had a thaw and the snow has gone.
I should go to bed... night all! :o)
Goodnight, dmf.
We have had such a mild and wet spring and summer - aiming for 38 on NYE but that will be the one and only hot day so far
night dfm, sleep well
The weather seems to have been strange all over. Russia has had unseasonably warm temperatures. Something to do with air streams. (Just nod and look wise, it's what I do)
lynxx, we had one day of 38, about 2 weeks ago. Has rained here nearly everyday so far this month. The past 2 days have had slippers on in the arvo.
It sounds like a typical British summer except the temperatures would be lower.
hi DizG, similar down here but hadn't got a high 30 b4
Is it making everyone very dispirited?
the way it has been, have had to get jumpers out, although Chrissie Day wasn't too bad for a changed, usually tooo hot or tooo wet...LOL
Oh no, it's great! shorts are all the go this year and the mild weather hasn't stopped all the girls wearing them at all
Nah not dispirited, just want the weather to be whatever the season is supposed to be...if that makes sense...LOL
Well that's good. I'd hate to think of the Australians weeping for the lack of heat.
LOL Haz...NEVER
and, and, I did some gardening out front and planted a few things - and then I WATERED the garden at about 5pm - the 1st time we have been allowed to do that for about 3 years!
I suppose too much heat is even more dispiriting.
The last time we had water restrictions here (in NI) was 1976.
lynxx, I know I have prolly asked before, but where abouts are yo?
We are still getting over the dreadful bushfires of 18 months ago, a hot hot summmer would make everyone nervous and uneasy down here too. Melbourne DizG
True, it's not just the temperatures in themselves that are hard to cope with, it's the consequences as well.
our water restrictions have been lifted as well, and silly neighbours are out hosing plants/gardens in the hottest time of day...tis best to leave it till late arvo when sun goes down.
Haz!! La Spanglettinettarina!
Ata! Hobbitellacinderellaredridinghood!
I hear you surprised FM yesterday. She was worried that you would notice she hadn't got her false eye and her dentures in.
she did a *brilliant* double take at the door
That'll be her lack of eye!
lol
any clues for po5 and po6
brb dog pesting
Add a vowel to the financially short po4.
And then plural.
thankyou hazel
You're welcome.
Crystalle - do you know the word some aboriginals call themselves ko5. po 5 is the same
sorry, too long winded
oh i have that one .. thanks anyway lynnx
and actually i had no idea that ko5 word was also a word for aboriginals. maybe i need to look up aussie culture
back
Did you get a good look round, Ata? Is she living in a suitable neighbourhood?
she had a look outside, saw it was raining and decided that maybe her need for a wee wasn't that great after all
FM?
oh that was Hobbit lol, FM definitely lives in a good neighbourhood!
thank heavens - I thought she was talking about FM!
Oh, Hobbit? Goodness, I had a fleeting image of FM opening the door, doing a double take, checking for rain etc etc. That WOULDN'T be a suitable neighbourhood.
does anyone have sh word that is not a sh** wedding or sh+ thats where i am **
she has lots of birds in her garden and a church at the back
You didn't find the cleaner polishing her bibelots?
actually the s word that is third bottom but not the two sh ones i just listed
I don't, crystalle, sorry.
no cleaner. there were wellies in her living room
i wonder if i even make sense lol
Oooh. Did someone make a quick escape to avoid detection and leave his wellies behind?
Or do you mean a cleaner would have shifted the wellies?
ooo maybe. I'm sure you could get over the back fence to make a get-away. Maybe the second, but I like the first better
We shall entitle it 'The case of the ownerless wellies'
sounds suitably intriguing
I see Miss Marple being the one to solve it. She likes villages and church settings.
yes, FM's place is very Miss Marple-esque
or Midsomer
Darn - shazam isn't accepted
Too many bodies in Midsomer. It's a bloodbath there.
amazing anyone's still alive
Did you see any interesting village characters?
only some collared doves. Though I think FM could now be classed as an "interesting village character"
She's bound to be. They'll have been whispering behind their newspapers about the newcomer with the wellies in the living room but she's probably well accepted now.
absolutely. wellies in the living room and a sports car. something fishy there
Her redeeming feature is that she feeds the birds. You can't be too sinister if you feed birds.
it's all a ploy ...
A front.
she has a Shed in the back garden
Well, that's proof positive of shady dealings.
absolutely
Maybe that's where the owner of the wellies was hiding.
older ladies need a shed to make all the poisons they get from the plants they grow and they need wellies to bury victims in
oo maybe
they need wellies cos they go out in mud and such
she did look a bit dishevelled ....
I wonder who FM's victim(s) might be?
err Good? morning.
not suggesting that fm is a murderer with poison being her weapon of choice odcourse
LMAO :)
Almost in the PB there, FM. (quick, change the subject)
Do I need to get my lawyers to check the chat?
we're just taking your name in vain, don't worry!
Ah nothing new there then *grin*
It is +5 this morning, positively tropical.
morning FM (note how I was saying nothing...oops halo slipping)
just suggesting you've been making poisons in your garden shed and murdering people and stealing their wellies
i have 33 left and have hit a brick wall. see you all later
Bye, crystalle.
lol Hi lynxxx and bye crystalle
bye crystalle
So, how are you, FM? Tolerably well?
Not too bad at all. I have recovered from the coronary that Ata gave me yesterday and will be forraying forth soon. Have you still snow?
Snow is all gone, thank goodness.
:D
Just think, FM, you never know who you're going to see when you open the door.
That is good news indeed Haz. Some semblence of normailty can return.
Never opening it again.
You need to get one of those spyholes fitted.
Ooops better get going (daylight saving still confusing me) Going to see The Kings Speech tonite. Bye all
Bye lynxxx
Bye, lynxxx. Enjoy!
you did a *wonderful* double take at the door
I bet I did, I'm not very good with surprises but it was lovely to see you tho.
I would have hated for anyone to do that to me, I must admit, but I really didnt know till that morning that I was going to be there
Just finished sucky duck so I had better get on with the day, am saving the grid for after errands etc are done. HAve fun you two and might see you later.
*hugs hugs*
See you later, FM! We'll not let anybody talk about you while you're gone.
*grin and poof*
So, about FM...
just wait for a few minutes to make sure she's gone .......
Good thinking.
Morning all how many words today please
195 today.
Thanks
I want origami and grimoire
I want tomato.
and gnomon
I forgot to ask, how is your gran doing?
she's ok ... still in hospital and probably not going home, but into a care home in a few weeks. But she's ok, just looking very old
Is she in bed or is she able to be up and about?
she can wander, but not out of the ward, but there's just *nothing* to do there, it would drive me up the wall, but she's (luckily) always been content to just sit and watch the world
If she's contented in herself, that's good and maybe there'll be a bit more stimulation wherever she finally moves.
She still knows you and is able to converse?
went down to see her yesterday, hence going back right next to FM, she said that seeing me was the best christmas present she'd ever had - aww! Then spent 30 minutes telling me about a presenter she listened to but couldn't remember his name on radio 2
Question asked and answered!
but I did hear everything 3 times over in half an hour :)
That can get wearying. Husband's great-aunt used to ask constantly if her mother was dead. The great-aunt was about 87 at this stage..
After many requests to know whether Mother was dead, Husband's father finally exploded 'Don't name Mother to me again!'
Slight pause and then 'Is mother dead?'
It's sad and funny and maddening all at the same time.
it really can, and that's the part I find really hard to deal with - the fact that I find it really hard to stay with her for a long time without wanting to screech. I love her so much, it's so hard to find her difficult to be around
But it's because you're emotionally attached to her and want her to be as she was.
hi
Hello, hurshy.
*hug* for ata
good morning everybody
I just always feel like I should stay there all day with her, when really an hour is all I can manage, and I hate that!
hi smurshy!
ata, do you think she would really feel better if you were there all day, or is that just guilt with no basis?
But your gran isn't going to know how long you were there. You came, it was lovely for her and she was happy.
Haz said it - I really don't think she'd know if I was there for 2 minutes or all day
she thinks she's been in hospital for 2 years apparently when it's 2 weeks ish
hospital time is like narnia time...
how's your dad, smurshy?
I think you just have to live with those moments you have with her when she knows that she's in the presence of someone who knows and loves her. She'll maybe not remember later, but for that time, it's lovely for her.
he's well. he got out of the hospital thursday. it's weird cause i thought i would be spending lots of time with him but then, he sleeps a lot and has low energy so he doesn't actually need people to do stuff with, he just needs his hogan's heroes videos.
yes ... and I just have to remember to be very rational about it, and not emotional, because I *know* she's fine there, and wouldn't even want me to be sad / anxious / worried, it's just awful to think about
uh oh, look whose name is in the grid, as usual
well that's good low-maintenance recovery :)
It's good he's making progress, hurshy, he'll build up his strength gradually.
yeah, i mean, now that he knows he's going to be ok, and can go back to his job later, he's handling things fine. AND he's become willing to see a counselor, which is huge, because he needed one before anyway!
what happens when he runs out of hogan's heroes? :P
hi ruby!
Poor man, first an aneurysm and now a counsellor. His world's being turned upside down.
he starts them over, ata.
husband is finally getting INTO his fossils. I got a big box of assorted (mostly fragments but a few good ones) at an auction and he is delighted!
I've never watched Hogan's Heroes but I'm guessing Action and Adventure?
excellent! to both hurshy and ruby :)
no, the counselor will be a really good thing. he realized that he bottles things up and the stress helped lead to this and i think he feels GOOD about getting help.
hogan's heroes is an old sitcom about a group of POWs in nazi germany. i know, how can that be a sitcom? but it is.
Bottling up stress is okay up to a point but he's obviously got beyond that point.
ha6,36?
One of the most successful sitcoms over here was about the Home Guard in England. It seemed like a strange idea but it worked.
well sucky duck wasn't very hard
ha6/36 is a plural
they made the guy in charge of the camp a buffoon, so that probably made the viewers feel good.
what is sucky duck? is it like spotted dick?
Oh thanks lol
Yes, standard comedy is to make the person in charge to be daft.
not only Dad's Army, but Allo Allo too
Yes, even Herr Flick was laughable in his sinisterness.
very
did you love the doctor who christmas special, ata? i did! they finally gave it to us on the same day as you on BBC america! i hope they continue that when the new season starts!
I'm not sure .... loved the shark, didn't like the Dickens, didnt like Katherine Jenkins
ah, well, i love dickens.
yes, I know .... :P
Don't tell me Katharine Jenkins got onto Dr Who!
Is there no programme safe from her?
she did! It was awful!
but as i am sentimental and dickens is sentimental, i sort of wished the doctor would have gone back in time to when he shut her up for years and cured the girl and they could get married. and as i have never seen this jenkins woman before, she was just a woman to me.
She even got on Sports Personality of the Year. She must have some dreadful blackmail plot against the BBC.
she Sang
She's always introduced as an opera star even though she's never done any proper operas.
it was great dr who and then it turned into Katherine Jenkins singing with a bit of dr who on the bit
She always sings. Bad weather prevented her getting to Afghanistan, it's the only thing that can stop her.
you probably haven't seen monty pythn and the holy grail, have you Haz?
i guess i am lucky not to have seen her before! the novelty allowed me to find her singing lovely.
No, I haven't, Ata.
I don't object to her singing, I object to her being dragged in to sing on any and every occasion.
There are probably lots of singers just as good, but she is pretty as well and so she is favoured.
makes sense
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3YiPC9 1QUk - the first minute of it!
Do I switch off after the first minute in case I am polluted by the rest of it?
lol
nooo it's all funny, the Katherine Jenkins analogue is just at about 50 secs
it sounds like UK TV is better than French....at least funnier
'I'd rather just sing' - sounds like Katherine!
yep!!!
and the beautiful golden light and fuzzy focussing
I know she's studied music and isn't just one of these X-factor hopefuls who can't keep a note in tune, but it's just that she's everywhere.
the arts are not helped by technology in certain respects.
i want mo4ri4, but they don't connect :(
I think Dr Who wasn't helped by the fact that they obviously recorded her singing *beuatifully*, it was almost too beautiful, it should have been more natural / less operatic, it just sounded like a KJ record in the middle of Dr Who
nice phantom, hurshy
i thought the whole point was that it should sound ethereal, magical, other-worldly
We'll need to get FM's opinion on Dr Who.
she didn't lik it much either
time to re-boot for security
poof
but I don't think it did, it sounded like an opera singer singing
OKay, with the thought of KJ in my ears, I must take a break. Back later. Toodle-oo!
well it seems like being acquainted with her career makes one hear it very differently :)
bye dear!
I think you're probably very right!
Bye!
it didn't even occur to me that she HAD a career. but i should have known, the guest stars on the specials are usually famous (at least in the UK).
everyone was famous on that special. Michael Gambon, Katherine Jenkins ...
i mostly know about gambon from top gear...
but is he playing dumbledore lately? i think so but am not that into the movies of HP.
yep, dumbledore
it is so weird to me that you guys have a whole different set of stars, TV shows, etc, and we hardly see any of it, and you don't see a lot of our shows either. i would think by now there would be much more porousness of borders.
I think the borders are fluid now, but tastes are very different still
there are still plenty of access issues too though.
why did i think "gris" was a word?
I did too
i guess cause of french
i've been awake for at least an hour and i feel bad cause my 3 year old nephew has also been wakeful and i can hear his dad upstairs going to deal with him to try to keep from waking my husband and i, when i couldn't sleep anyway and my husband sleeps like a log and i could have dealt with wesley.
how are the cats??
good... although possibly lonely right now without us. but we will go back today.
awwww poor kitties
hello all - I know you guys are cold but oh heavens it is sooooo hot and muggy here today - i hate sweaty
usually christmas is at my mom's in RI, and i bring the cats there, but with dad's situation they are not there but at the trailer up here near my sister, so, christmas is here, and here, i can't bring them.
i hate sweaty too, ursh, and love the snow, so complain all you like!
we forgive you, ursh :)
LOL best ever fb post from a friend: "had a pheasant leg and some chocolate and orange fudge for breakfast"
aaack i am soooo hungry
do not be mentioning fudge!
so I can mention pheasant legs just not the F word?
sure.
they taste good too
i've never HAD pheasant so i don't know what i'm missing.
it's very nice!
sigh. i was doing so well in the first row...
morning all
morning katie
katie!!
wow Ata long time no see
ditto! how are you? how are the cats?
we are all fine, how about you and yours?
why do the letters in the tile stats have one or 2 different boxes with the same letters?
Hobbit has decided that she's obsessed with CHristmas cake *sigh*
they match the grid, ivesy.
ahhhh I haven't cut ours yet so we haven't got that problem so far
amion
excuse me... it doesn't go anyway
she starts drooling every time I cut a piece
ok, they tell you how many words of that letter rite. but like the o letter has 2 boxes, with diff numbers. i guess im not getting it lol
they match up to the grid above, ivesy
some of the words that start with O, you can't make from the top O, so they count in the box of the second row O.
for instance, imagine that "ogir" was a word. that would have to come from that second O, because the top O isn't next to the G.
do you mean the 1/12 ones. if so the second number has the amount of words from that letter and the first number is the amount of words you have found. it goes grey when you have them all
oooooohhh, now i get it... ty!! lite bulb turned on lol
if a word COULD come from EITHER box, it counts as coming from the first one, left to right top to bottom.
thank you. .u explained the process now so its a bit clearer. ty both
gosh what a nice long set of long op words
yes, i enjoyed those!
they were great!
i also have mo8, but not the other two 8's
ditto
how are you on 7's? i have am x2, or, ta
i have 2. hmmmm. the am
the am's are more normal than the others... are you saying those are the 2 you have, or not?
i have those two
oh, well, the others are plurals of 5's.
the or you will know but the ta, i did not
got the or
got the ta
armpit promise mission
pimento
what have you got from the 4th row a? i only have as6.
Could you guys drop a clue for the ta? It's making me nutso.
me too
t + french friends for 5, then plural for 7
as6 x2
and as8
oh sorry, I meant ta 7/36, is it yiddish maybe?
oho, i don't know, i need that one then
whoops ta 6/36 that is
ta7/36 sticks an extra vowel in the feminine protection
ok I am officially discombobulated, let me make sure that's right.
how about the D, i have de6 and dr5
ta7/36 - to rhyme with Danny ch****** of the world, They had pheasants in that.
ooh another de6 for one...
yay for pheasants!
It doesn't like derig.
it doesn't indeed. enable is very bad today
i know, and lol re: pheasants
They're pretty birds.
very very pretty
ah thanks, but apparently there's one more ta 7/36 that starts off the tas. I think I'm a bit tired because I assumed it had a z, when plainly it can't.
ta + what you do to potatoes + vowel
thanks for all the help melissamay!
Now, what on earth can that mean?
what an odd word!
an entertainment
something african maybe
oh lord, if I am helping it's purely by accident :D
It's a spectacle in the East Indies.
mkg will be thrilled to find it. She loves the inclusivity of the English language.
*dies laughing* imagine cluing that one for her
Good morning everyone! At last a day with a nice sized grid, time to do it, and no visitors!
I think hurshy's clue would work very well, she'll just be indignant that it's there and acceptable.
hi sally!
Hello, Sally.
Ok that is officially a very new word for me. Thanks for the fab clue, hurshy.
you really think? I think it would be "do what to potatoes?" "roast?" "fry?" "I don't get it!"
And good day Sally et al.
And how nice to come on in the middle of a clueing orgy.
Well, there is that. She'll get there in the end and be cross that she had to make the effort to find a non-word.
I was so proud up to this point because I'd remembered a middle eastern si 6/21 from ages ago. Hubris is never advised in babble -- I need to tattoo that somewhere.
this grid could prove interesting for her, lots of odd words
she should probably just be content not to finish... just find the words she likes and skip the rest... ah well.
oh do clue it melissa!
I didn't finish yesterday, grid too big and I was too tired, so I just left it.
si + stern of countenance? that one?
oooh ok, it's si + the heavenly orb that controls the tides.
oh wait, ignore that
ty, mm!
sorry, I have no clue settings but "obvious"
yw hurshy!
They work, melissa, that's the idea of clues.
ty melissa
True, but some of you are awfully clever with clueing. Far more so than me!
well i might be able to sleep again, although i don't know for how long since the nephew will prob soon be up for good - but i'm going to give it a shot. ttfn all.
Ata, you missed me asking earlier if a dancing collier would drive a Mo6/21 Minor.
Nice to see you, hurshy, and say helo to Wesley.
tata hursh, thanks for all the fantastic clues
oh very good Haz-in-the-grid!
I know! I don't appear often so it feels nice. peri is very blase about it now. You're there as well.
peri is constantly in!
I know. Something should be done.
has spangle ever been in the grid?
I think she might have been, there's a vague memory.
spangle would be a nice high-scoring one :-)
ooo a good de8
Hobbit has, but enable doesn't accept her
Which goes to show that enable has poor standards.
ty Ata!
Daisy has, but not Sparky I think.
poor sparky
Silverclaw hasn't LOL
She'll survive!
lol Ata
But probably her components Ata
yes :)
Morning all.....hope you're all well!
Hallo Flask
Good morning, Flask. I'm fine, how are you?
Rain here again Haz!!!
Am grand thanx!
I know, but at least all the snow has gone and it's possible to open the door without a sharp intake of breath.
And my chair moves in the rain.....such bliss!
It's nice to be able to go out without hat and gloves
Oh great, you'll finally be able to get out and about. Don't let anybody knock you over in the rush for the sales.
lololol.....not in this wee toon Haz.....that would be such an event!!!
I watch TV pictures of people queuing up for the sales and can't imagine why you'd put yourself through it, especially in such low temperatures.
lol Haz. I said to my husband only this morning how glad I was I no longer had to dr5 for work and had reached the age when I could wear jeans and a tee-shirt every day and my idea of dr5ing up was a clean tee-shirt.
And if I want to go somewhere bigger...I have to book an adapted vehicle a week in advance!!! They don't go for acting on impulse here, believe me!!
I gather you're in a wheelchair Flask. Is that permanent?
No chopping and changing your mind at the last minute, if you say you're going, you go.
I can't keep up with my girls, they form a plan and by the end what actually happens bears little resemblance to the original scheme.
Hot dang, that's firewords. Can I help anyone before I collapse in a heap?
I blame the mobile phone, by the time they've consulted with everybody, the plans change beyond recognition.
Well done, melissa!
thank you kindly Haz
Yay for mellisa! No thanks, haven't long started.
and sally! Watch out for those ts is all I can say. Whew.
Yes Sally it is!....I took Polio when I was 11 wks old......am now 56yrs old...lolol...so am well used to it.....but it slows you down quite suddenly with age....but hell am happy!
Thats it Haz, you've got the idea!!
Sorry to hear that Flask. But being happy is the best thing! {{hugs}}
So I'll say good night and good day to all. Have fun and a fabulous time of it!
Good night, melissa, sleep well.
:D
Oh don't be sorry Sal...I really don't know any different.......and I HAVE LIVED MY LIFE TO THE FULL.......[she says blushing]!!
Now we start wondering just what Flask has been up to...
lol....
Honestly, between FM and her empty wellies and Flask with her life lived to the full, it's a wonder we get any words here at all.
Well I ran away from home when I was 17....so there's a wee hint for you.....lol
Remember this is a family group Flask! Seriously it is probably easier in some ways for some who has never known anything else than someone suddenly in a chair at a more mature age - not in any way to belittle what you have had.
Goodness, you HAVE had adventures, Flask.
Empty wellies? What have I missed?
No Sally I agree completely!
'fraid so Haz!
Well, Sally, not that we're ones to gossip, but Ata visited FM yesterday and there were wellies in the living room. Our theory is that someone had made an escape to avoid detection. Like I said, we're not ones to gossip.
People who moan all the time are very hard to be around, so I think you must be fun to be with Flask.
So you see....I have all my wonderful and not so wonderful memories!
Shock Haz! And were there snowy bare footprints leading out of the window?
My aunt had two moaning sisters. She was once heard to say 'Oh, here are Doom and Gloom coming' when she spied them arriving.
rofl Haz
Ata didn't say but she did note a shed in the garden.
Garden shed = up to no good.
I feel myself very fortunate to feel very happy most of the time. It's a nice feeling.
Not a bike shed?
Bike-sheds are a whole different ball game.
I do have a sense of humour....which helpsme thro' anything that might be thrown at me!
Bike sheds????
A sense of humour is a blessing.
Behind which there were many indiscretions at school (or so I am told)
how many today please
I never did the bike-shed thing at school....
195 today
I've been told that as well, Sally.
ty sally
Well, no, nor did I. An all-girls school and I didn't smoke, so not much left.
I was so slow at walking, when I got there it was always time to move on!
Thats not the case now tho'.....my electric chair whizzes me around so fast....its fab!!!....lol
Flask, wasn't it your grandson who got bitten by a dog recently? How is he now?
You knock them off their feet do you Flask!
Yes Sally it was.....stitches came out yesterday...and its looking so much better!
How is he in himself?
Great!!
He's never stopped smiling!!
Great relief all round, that's for sure.
Definitely!! Thanx for all your good wishes!
I could fully understand your anxiety, I was so glad that his eyes weren't affected.
Good! My little grandson will be 3 in March and they always spend Christmas in Egypt. Santa arrived by boat, Theo rushed out into the water fully clothed, had to remove wet clothes and so met Santa stark naked!
I love their innocence at that age.
So were we Haz!....It leaves you feeling so hopeless...
Love it Sally!
Son thought it was hysterical and rushed up with a towel I believe.
can't find any of the biggies here.....are there any clues floating around......[looking around in the air]...lol
Biggest I have so far is an 8
de 8/45
op :)
Lots of the biggest ones come from op - words meaning to make the most of things. Use both British and American spellings.
ok thanx Haz!
mo8 - either lots of bell-bedecked dancers or a queue of Minors. the Americans won't have a clue)
oh ty Haz. Had the singular, not the plural
lol
de8 - mkg viewed the inclusion of ta7 with de8.
lovely clue Haz
ta7 - a spectacle or entertainment in East Indies. I know neither of you will need further help.
lmao
Hello, Kateq.
are you serious Haz??? Am totally bamboozled!!
But in case you do - ta plus what you do to potatoes finish with a vowel.
thanks for the op tips Haz. Now have 4 of the 8s!
fry? roast? I don't get it!
Many thanks, Haz got 8 words from the OP :-)
There are 9s and a 10 in among the op words.
You're welcome, good morning, zooz!
Got it!....but I was looking for Peel to begin with...lol
Yes, have the 9 and 10 now, missing one 8
make that 9..lol...Hello, All :-)
Well done!
Hi Zooz!
Hello, Flask :-)
Hi zooz.
Hope everyone had a great Christmas, glad the weather has warmed up.
It has, thanks, zooz. It feels positively balmy in comparison.
It's grey, wet and disgusting outside. Very slushy and foggy
Beg to differ, Haz! SOME Americans know those dancers
Excellent! But do you know the cars?
Oh yes. My boyfriend had one when we were 16
How was your Xmas Zooz?
They were produced over a long period of time, much beloved and sadly missed. They had indicators that flipped out from a bit in the side.
oddly enough
Hectic, Flask, but enjoyable :-)
Yes! I remember!
bright orange too!
I loved those indicators
You've obviously been hanging round with the right sort of people, Jayk. Did he dance as well?
My father's pet name for those indicators was wig-wags :-)
lol...Haz!
Those indicators were brilliant. Such character.
Indeed--but not that kind. The dancers were a fixture in Vermont
mrorning all. I wonder if any of you who share your homes with cats has encounterd this issue...we have a two year old cat who wets on our bed once every couple of months. She has been evaluated by the vet, and she is not ill. we've changed her diet, which has helped some, because she used to wet every month, instead of every tow months. She has been treated for possible bladder infection, but she does not wet anywhere else inappropriately, and it's usually early in the morning. We're not sure why she doees this.
You don`t get cars made with wood on the frame anymore..lol
I know...they were fab!
Anyone remember the bench seat on the front of the Austin Cambridge?
Never had this Angel, but could it be stress of some kind? Some change in the home? If so, in the UK you can get something which plugs into a socket and gives off a calming pheromone.
yes!!!!
I do Haz!!
I've never seen them in any other car. They'd not be allowed nowadays because of seat belts but I always liked them.
no stress or changes we can identify, Sally. We notieced the behavior about a year ago.
I think they were exclusive to the Austins!
There's a to7 with the same structure as another ta7/36 (the one that rhymes with Danny, ch****** of the world)
I think so, Flask, it was such a dignified car, that one.
Well you could try one of these plug-in things. Here, I think you have to get them from the vet. I have never used one but a friend had one for her dog.
An uncle who lived with us, had an Austin A40 and I loved that too!
The only other thing I can think of is that something has changed outside. If there is another cat or animal outside in the early morning who frightens her, she might wet inside instead - or does she have a litter tray? If not, it might be worth providing one for her.
do they work well, Sally?
strange words those, Haz!
we have three litter trays, one for each cat.
I believe so Angel, but as I said we have never used one but a friend had one and said it was really good.
I know, Flask, not much used in everyday conversation.
:-)
back in a mo
de8...clue please?
de8 - an adjective meaning that you view something with distaste or disapproval.
It has the charged particle ending.
ty...got it...
You're welcome.
....and the as8 please?.....I know, am pushing it..sorry!
as8 - if you've got as6/24 - to give someone a duty, make it the person who does.
thanx Haz!...appreciated!
You're welcome.
Back
Really enjoying this grid. There's enough of a challenge, but some nice finds as well. Also, I really don't like the enormous ones just because of the time they take.
Yes, enough of a workout to make you feel you've earned the points but not too much of a slog.
back soon .... having lunch!
Enjoy lunch, Flask.
I'll probably be away when you come back. The final chapters of the latest Scotland Street book await me.
Scotland Street? Don't know that.
They're by Alexander McCall Smith - based on the inhabitants of a building in Edinburgh.
They're like his Botswana books in that they're very gentle but immensely funny in parts.
Are they good?
I like his writing - husband read a couple and concluded that nothing happened.
I didn't like the No 1 Detective Agency, which I think is by him.
Yes, he wrote them. I think they're an acquired taste to an extent. I'm not so fond of the Isabel Dalhousie series which he also writes.
Hi everybody. I'm reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, which I received as a Christmas present about 3-4 years ago, and never got around to reading. I'm enjoying it immensely.
Hello, Soodle. Are you dried out yet?
A friend has recommended those soodle, but I haven't read any yet.
Its a long, slow process, Haz. I have totally run out of towels and other mopping up accoutrements, which is frustrating.
Those Larsen books and movies are great
But your reference to feeling like a wet rag wy
But your reference to feeling like a wet rag wy
It's bound to be - I take it you're going to have to get insurance involved?
yesterday brought a wry smile to my face!
Oh yes. It will be an insurance job for sure, but at this stage, its a case of 'Form and orderly queue'.....
'an'
Hmmm ....typing skills also waterlogged...
Understandable. Our water pressure this morning seems to be low to negligible, I imagine they're mopping up leaks elsewhere.
Jean, I haven't seen the movie yet, and I probably won't watch it. I always find the film versions of books I have read a huge disappointment.
the dragon tatoo was a goog film version
the played with fire good but not as
good
I love the actress who plays Lisbeth
As I was reading Dragon Tattoo, there was a bit where the main character was experiencing temperatures of minus 17. We had the exact same weather conditions here, so I had total empathy with him!!
Okay, off I go - enjoy the grid, bye for now!
Bye General Haz. Thanks for the clues earlier :-)
Enjoy your book Haz.
didn't know it got that cold in Ireland soodle
Jean - we have had unprecedented cold here over the past month. All records have been shattered. It got down to minus 21 last week. My pipes froze, and burst 3 times....... 3 floods in one week. Yuk!
<-------- Hence the icon! LOL
does anyone have a clue for si 7?
((((Soodle)))) what a mess!!
I think I would just sit on a step and cry!
Plural Italian men, crystalle
Thanks Jean. I sat, I cried, I mopped, I cried again, I mopped again! Crystalle , add a vowel to the end of hte si 6/24
do you have help?
Thanks Soodle
The kids are here - but its just been a nightmare. Flood no 3 happened yesterday, and I just felt like throwing in the towel, but I couldn't, because I didn't have a dry towel in the house!!!
Oh soodle {{{hugs}}}
the op words were a lot easier than they appeared to be.
(((((Soodle))))) Flooding sucks.
Aw, heck. **it happens. Nobody died. And the temperatures here have gone to a tropical 7 degrees.
Hey Moll (((())))
*Handing two dozen dry towels to Soodle*
Soodle, funny, I use a similar expression "nobody died, nobody got sued, it was a good day"
Hmm, Jean. Just wait til I fill out the insurance claim form, and we will see about the whole sueing thing!
Y'all know that people out there are scratching their heads about the plural of si6/24. : D
I don't even HAVE SI6/24
I did say Italian!
I have to go now, and bring the son and heir into the town, to collect the car he abandoned in favour of a night of drunken debauchery. Sheesh.... Have a good day everybody.
oooh based on that sally, I just got it
OK, what you might call an Italian man (apart from hey buddy). Then add a vowel to make an ITALIAN plural.
bye soodle!
Joking Sally. : D
bye soodle.
:-)
might there be something in error on lickety's list? like no sh 6 but another p?
there is an extra word on clues list
Presumably shazam, which is sadly not accepted.
does anyone have a clue for to7 please
altho it's a perfectly good word
mornin babblers!
to7 boys name + who ate all the **es + opp of off
ty zooz
Hello, Eva :-)
yw :-)
ty zooz, had the ta equivalent of that but never heard of that one.
just came face-to-face with a mouse at work. thank god its my friday!
Ah, see it is alt spelling.
Wait a minute. TUESDAY is your FRIDAY?
only this week. took a few days off. normally take off the whole week between christmas + new years, but didnt have enough leave left this year, after the wedding...
I was gonna say, why bother with Monday and Tuesday.
I saw a mouse.. where..there on the stair.
little guy just ran out from between my filing cabinets, sat there and looked up at me until i shrieked. then just ran back...
lol...little bugger
i dont mind mice as pets in cages. but roaming freely in the office, not so much...
It is rats i am not keen on coming face to face with.
can anyone help me with the first ri 5 and ri 6?
Sometimes the cats bring in a live one into my office. I have to make sure I have socks on, because I don't like the idea of them running over my bare feet :-)
ri plus the nickname of a frequent Babbler who has a dog called hobbit, and plural
i am generally ok with almost any critter, so long as i know its coming. its when they sneak up on me that i get scared! except spiders. spiders are NEVER ok.
thanks for the clue sally but i actually dont know much about the people in here yet
OK - ri plus indefinite article plus British slang for thank you
Hi crystalle. We're a lively bunch and very supportive of each other
Ah yes, just seen the date on your profile.
Good Morning Babble Friends

Hectic but fun & nice., hope yours went well :-)
also hectic but fun as well - glad it is over though
must forage for some breakfast... back in a bit!
i finally got ri thankyou
Good :-)
It's a word frequently found in the grid.
Way hay! Fireworkd. Any clues needed before I sit by the fire with Christmas cake?
yeah Sally
just starting so I am fine for now
but thanks
WTG Sally!
to 7 the first one? please and wtg sally
Only need two more so i should be ok, but thanks.
ta7 t + crushed potatos + letter
ty zooz
ta+ crushed potatoes + letter
yw :-)
thanks zooz - new word for me
is that t-i-o-n really not used for anything?
I have made up many nice words with that t-i-o-n
Afraid not, Kap, take away the `T` and the rest is used a few times.
Sorry, looked away. to7: man's name, then Greek letter then opposite of off
Must go, bye all.

Ummm...Eva...what do you mean?
you really want her to explain that Car.?
put one in before i left the house. one hour commute to work. by the time i got here... UGH.
thank the lord i was wearing black that day.
you commute one hour to work?
by car?
Oooooh....
from the time i leave the house to walk to the shuttle which takes me to the metro, ride the train, and walk into my building... door-to-door is about an hour.
i have driven a few times before, and it takes a little less. but DC traffic will always get ya.
you live in Maryland but communte to DC
yup
that sounds kinda neat
heh. it gets me to the job, which pays the bills...
which is important
does Mr. Foster work in DC as well?
i have actually started to look at other contracts that my company has, closer to home. would LOVE to shorten that commute!
no, he works in MD.
yes, I would think so
what is it that you do?
shazam is too a word. Gomer said it all the time
i work in the IT group on a contract at a federal agency. software/application testing.
sounds interesting
OK, I am off to start my car and go to a B'day party with the kids! Have a good day all!
a b'day party so early? have a good time. ((Hugs))
it can be. but not so much lately...things are kinda slow, which means i get to do busy work. updating documentation + stuff. i dont like the busy work. i like breaking stuff. :)
I would have thought Car was snowed in today.
maybe it will pick up after the first of the year. I don't like busy work either.
we know of a few projects coming our way sometime in the next few months, so we are trying to prepare for them. its work that needs to be done, but its never as interesting as the actual testing is for me.
but that leaves more time for babbling
there is an extra word in Lickety's list. is it the sh6?
heh, yes. :)
not a clue Angel, haven't listed
me neither, angel. though i DO hear people mentioning that "shazam" should be a word...heh
good morning everyone:)
Shazam! Yes it is. sh6/39

Good morning all
I think we all did Welki. I have now moved onto Hotsot Ralston On The Rillera
*lol* and for years, i couldn't understand why the Beatles would release such an anti-Semitic song as "Hey, Jew"
Eva, sounds like a man's name only minus the m at the beginning.
hint for the 2nd row O?
lol welki
is sh 6/39 an extra word today?
Yes, sh 6/39 is extra
ty molly
I don't know...it took it for me Matches. Is it not in lickety's list?
Nonnie just clued it TNana
trent, see my clue at 8:15
oops - missed it, sorry

Nonnie, shazam worked for you?
Nonnie, shazam worked for you?
Nonnie, shazam worked for you?
got it
Oh Lord, hiccups
hints for the A directly beside the Z?
Double a word Eva
teachers as**** homework
I use the babble expert and the screen turned green when I entered the sh6.
TY molly :)
well, it makes sense that babble expert would align with licketys list, since he created both of them...
Is it not changing within the tile stats?
not accepted in normal, regular babble.
Oh, I see...it isn't showing up in the "my word list".
hrm. turns out that double-A word i used comes from the wrong A... back to work on that A tile some more...
I clued it at 8:19, Eva
TY nana!
also 8 letter word comes from it
I had better scoot off here, going to my parents today:-) ((Hugs)) to all of you
yw
bye Mom

*poof*
bye bye mom
thanks eva! I don't think I would have tried that.

That is all I got too, trent.

listening to my wedding playlist today. didnt get to actually hear much of it on my wedding day, and i gotta say -- i did a DARN good job of putting this selection together!
My daughter got married in October - she said the day just flew by and she wishes she could do it over again!
help me
nana -- what date? my wedding was in october too!
what do you need, hailey?
my profile pic was taken on my wedding day. :)
they married on the 9th
it was an absolutely beautiful day and an awesome wedding
ahh. the 23rd for us. :)
You look VERY happy!
help
If I ever figure out how to use flickr, I'll put some pix of it on there
good morning my dear friends!
hailey. we will help you, but you need to be a little more specific with what you need help with. :)
show of hands please --- who else tried to enter "shazam?"
me
my hunch was correct. there is no sh6 in the grid today.
your wedding pix look very nice, eva
oooh, and my eldest chidl's internet name is in the grid today! win!
thankyou. we havent gotten the official ones back yet, but those were taken by friends. :)
Beautiful, eva!
My daughter has her pix and the video. All turned out quit nice.
quite
It looks like the weather cooperated for your day, too.
Angel, it is and it isn't! lol
we really lucked out. it was GORGEOUS that day, and got quite cold very soon afterward!
I kind of like it that while everyone else was praying, your friend was snapping photos.
it's naughty, but in a lovely way....
heh, well, yknow... someone needs to capture the moment. ;)
GROSS! my big dog just sneezed RIGHT in the puppy's face! LOLOLOL
good morning babblers :)
better out that end than the other! ;)
hello nono
Eva - I've got a flickr account, but not seeing how to put the pix on here - can you help?
ha ha ha eva!
yummmm....oatmeal is ready!
nana -- off to the right side of the flickr homepage should be a link that says "upload photos and video"
if you were here yesterday you may remember that I mentioned our local highschool band going to london..... well some of them finally made it out of JFK at about 3:30 thie morning the rest are still waiting for flights
My grandbaby is here. See you all later.
whew! good to hear nono. The town one next to me is right on the ocean, and they got CLOBBERED yesterday something fierce, and they are using the high school as a shelter....the houses right next to the sea got flooded, and then several burst into flames. it's a mess
you can see pics and read of their progress here: http://whslondon.tumblr.com/
omg trif thats horrid
qe`w
sorry - puppy ran across my laptop....
Where Trif?
scituate, mass
Yikes. We only got a foot and it was easy shoveling
How many words today please
we have less than a foot, probably, but it's wicked heavy
not to discount it, but scituate always gets nailed. they build houses thiiiiiiis close to the water, and then act all surprised when they flood. well - duh!
how many owrds today?
195
ty river
Thanks
the wind was horrid - I am sure the waves were incredible on the ocean
trif are they able to get insurance under those circumstances?
could it be? Indy is actually chewing on an assigned chew toy? next week -- satan skates!
okay, Eva, once I have them uploaded to Flickr, how do you get them to show up on your profile on here?
they would have to have flood insurance
I grew up near the ocean. It was always some weather catastrophe
I am not even sure they can get it, river....who would insure them?
honestly, i dont remember. try clicking "my account" in babble and check if there is something there?
is crystalle still here? she was looking for ta 6/21 - it's a japanese mat, i think. to make lace + french friend
ok, thnx
its very hard to get flood insurance if your very near the water
you gave to go through a specialty company or a governmental agency - its not sold by regular insurance carriers
ty welki
thanks welki - didnt have that one
well then I hope they have it, and I would not want to venture a guess at the premiums they pay!
That's the price you have to pay for a water view
if they can afford the house on the water lets hope they can afford the premuim
i was required to have flood insurance when i lived in nj ... and then found it hard to buy. but when i finally found a carrier, it wasn't too expensive
that's the funny thing - the houses aren't all that nice, and they are literally inches apart. real beach cabins....but they are right on the water!
Yes, there were lots of bungalows where I lived, but they weren't weatherized. Only used in the summer
what i found out was, in 1955, the delaware river flooded the town i lived in and my house (built in 1840) had been flooded to the second floor!
(you never know these things when you sign on the dotted line!)
NJ has lots of flooding, especially North Jersey
some are summer ones, some are winterized. my friend grew up in one, and it was a lovely, cozy little home, on stils. the funny thing was, if you stood on the beach and looked back at the houses, his is 90 off the others. Turns out the whole thing was lifted up and turned in a flood back in the 40s!
yep, this was in sussex county
Ok - they are starting to load on my profile. Thanks, Eva! You can see some of my daughter's wedding pix on there.
i am cooking as I babble now, so forgive me if I get a little slow....
Morning folks
hi mr bob
hi mr bob
we went thru a flood in 1972, water to the second floor. At that time flood insurance was not available and we got lots of government grants ect. to help recover. But after that they institued flood insurance requirements and it was a bit cost prohibitive for me. We solved the issue by moving to a hill top location and now on the side of a hill
where were you living at the time, nono?
southern tier of NY quite close to the Chemung River
(and your post ... makes it sound like you started at the top of the hill and are now on the side of the hill ... do you need erosion coverage now :)
no, lol two totally differnt locations
near elmira
yes, actually Corning
grew up in Elmira
The Connecticut River always floods in Middletown CT, but we live high up. One Middletown was ut off in 3 out of 4 directions
beautiful country, nono ... we don't have trees here like back east, and fall is so lovely in your neck of the woods
yes it is quite colorful in the fall
lovely, nana. :)
yes, we were very lucky on the weather
I love your dress, Eva - beautiful. How long did it take you to pick it out. My daughter must've tried on 20-30 before she found hers.
oooh, I think pr5 is about to be very in love with me! leftover roast beef from christmas dinner is now happily ensconced in an omelet with cheese and bbq sauce....good morning, dear son!
i had gone to 2 other shops before and tried on a few dresses. seen a few that were ok, but nothing i really feel in love with. this particular designer was one i kept pulling up whenever i would search online, so i actually drove all the way to NYC to Kleinfeld (the store on that tv show!) because this designer was having a trunk show there -- which means the dresses were 12% off!
oooo that sounds good trif
i could never have afforded my dress without that discount, and STILL paid twice as much as i had wanted to, but i LOVED my dress!
Well, the dress is the most important thing - at least for the bride.
i only tried on a few that day. my dress was everything i thought i DIDNT want, but the designer hand-selected it for me, so i didnt want to insult her by not trying it on! as soon as it was on, my friend and i just said "oh, wow" and i knew. :)
will people stop saying the dr5 word!!!!!!
consider it a freebie, MM. ;)
they seem to know which styles look good on you
yes, it's now official. I am the BMOE
Kristi did NOT want strapless and look what she ended up with. They said with proper fitting, she wouldn't be pulling it up all day/night long, and they were right!
all of her designs seemed to be created for my shape, so they all looked nice, but that one just spoke to me. :)
i didnt want strapless, i didnt want lace.
*imagining a little voice coming from a gown, "buy meeeeee, i'm the one for youuuuuuu"
my best friend made my wedding dr5, (he's was the costume designer of the washington opera at the time...) and we had such a good time designing it, putting little touches on it...I had a really long commute in the morning then, and I used to work on the beading and such on the way to work
trif -- thats so special!
it was a lovely dr5....it's somewhere up in the attic now, in a stereo box!
my dress did fit perfectly, except that i took my hells off + then it kinda fit strangely + i was tugging at it. but i think it was more habit of being a small-chested gal with a strapless gown!
It was a heavy dress, but she didn't mind it. She also didn't want the "pick-up" style, and that's what she looked the best in.
what a pick up style?
mine had just a little bit of beading, along the waistline, but it had a very thin metallic thread that ran throughout the lace + it made the whole thing sort of glow...
I wonder, do you think it would be bad luck if one of my girls wanted to wear it someday?
hard to explain, looks like bits of the material were pulled up and attached at the bottom
oh, I know what you mean
if your girls like the dress, that shouldn't make any difference, Trif
i still LOVE my dress. i wish i could figure out a way to alter it + wear it again! but alas, the style of mine doesnt lend itself to alterations. id LOVE for my (someday) children to wear it, but i dont hold out hope that they would ever want to -- its so rare that girls want to wear their mothers dress. i would love to think of something i would do with it though...
I did wear my mom's headpiece, and she is divorced. oh wait a sec....what is my point exactly? LOLOLOL
ha - I posted a picture with daughter's mouth hanging open - didn't mean to post that one
LOL
styles change so much, Eva, but you never know - it may be back in style by that time
my mother got married in a pale blue skirt suit. :)
i think wedding gowns (see what I did there?) defy the styles of the time. There are trends that come and go, (butt bows!!!) sure, but there is always a way to work in the gown you want, no matter what
my stepmother got married in a purple designer gown, as pale colors don't suit her at all, and she looked absolutely beautiful.
white for weddings only became the style after queen victoria wore white at hers....
i didnt even think too much about trends when i chose my gown. if anything, i sort of tried to stay away whatever seemed to be popular. i wanted a dress that was classic + timeless and really just flattered me and my style. i *think* i managed that. :)
my friend ava went to a wedding wore black lace over nude. Nude. THAT is a look people are going to remember!
my dress was "antique ivory" and i think my mother thought that was horrible, until she saw me in true white. i looked ill. then she said "ivory, it is!"
you did a great job, Eva - and antique ivory looked great on you
Kristi looked best in white
Eva, why doesn't it lend itself to alterations?
I had an ivory wedding gown, in 1971
it has sort of a fish-tail train. doesnt really lend itself to be shortened... not really sure what else i would want to do to it...
i think my mother kinda-sorta wanted me to do all things traditional, since she very much didnt do that herself. but then she realized that she raised a daughter who isnt quite traditional herself. ;)
you can see the bottom of her dress on the first picture I posted on my profile - that's what a pick-up style is
I didn't say anything, unless my daughter asked for my opinion. I figured it was her day and she should have it the way she wanted it. Sounds like your mother did the same.
I didn't say anything, unless my daughter asked for my opinion. I figured it was her day and she should have it the way she wanted it. Sounds like your mother did the same.
trentsnana, what a beautiful wedding! You must have just about burst from pride! And well done you, posting the photos!!!
Oops - didn't mean to post that twice
ty, trif - finally got the hang of posting them, thnx to Eva.
for the most part, yes. my mother definitely had her opinions, though. i think she just realized that mine were better. ;)
Pretty proud of all my children that day.
is that you holding the grey dog in the christmas photo?
lol Eva
I know someone who had their wedding dress shortened, had a jacket made out of what was cut off, dyed it and wore it to her daughter's wedding.
yes - our "family" now that we are empty-nesters - lol
Wow, you are a stunning woman!!!
and me in the black dress in the wedding pix
that's cool molly! brave, but very cool!
oh, geez - I just cleaned up well - hahaha
and who is the bride, your daughter, or your granddaughter?
i had a *vision* for my whole wedding. i think people didnt get it at first, but once it all started coming together, my vision became clearer... we got a lot of compliments on everything, and i think people had a really fab time, so i think thats what matters!
no, you are very beautiful! Please accept my compliment, as it is most heartfelt
You sound like Kristi. She had it all pictured in her mind. She was very happy with how it all turned out and she, too, got lots of compliments. It all went smoothly - thank goodness.
Well, thank you, Trif!
Great pictures TNana!
If you saw me here this morning, with bedhead, sitting here in my nightgown, you might change your mind, though. Ha!
TY, Molly
Remember, though it's only 8:30 a.m. here....lol
i told people "i want tree stumps for cake bases and centerpieces" and they just looked at my sideways. then once everything else came together, i heard a lot of "OOH! i get it now -- lovely!"
anyone have a clue for the de8?
Did you go on a honeymoon, Eva?
Don't have that one yet, Angel
yes, we went to disney world + stayed at the animal kingdom lodge. :)
de8 means ridicule
OMG - my daughter and son-in-law went to Florida, too, but didn't go to Disney.
okay, gotta run. Bye friends!
Isn't Animal Kingdom awesome? I LOVED the safari.
bye Trif
Bye, Trif!
i wanted to go somewhere more exotic, but hubby really hates flying. plus, we totally didnt have the money for it! so hopefully maybe someday fiji is in my future. ;)
we really loved it! the whole african vibe really spoke to my hubs and i love disney -- and we were there over halloween, which is my favorite!
She (daughter) is all excited - they put a purchase agreement on a house yesterday. Hope it all goes through.
good luck with that!! we are hoping to look for a place soon, but we need to save up our pennies.
her hubby is a real saver, so he had quite a bit saved up before the wedding and then they received a nice little chunk for gifts
thanks for the help...fireworks
good job, Angel
i actually bought my own house when i was 23. i rent that out nowadays... we while we dont really have a ton saved up, i could always either sell that one or borrow against the equity. there are options. :)
BRB...
wonderful that you bought that at such a young age - good investment
Okay - I've got work to do. I'll be back a little later. Have a great day all.
back :)
Hello. Just doing a trial of buddy icon. Anyone want any clues as I just finished grid. Took ages.
oh no -- am i a chog-killer??
ahh, hello scouser. :)
Hello EvaNadine: my grandchild (18 months) is called Eva: she is of course doted upon by me!
Hello EvaNadine: my grandchild (18 months) is called Eva: she is of course doted upon by me!
Eva has been one of my most favorite names since about forever!
The buddy icon came out a bit flattened - looks like its my cat about to snarl, which he does not often do. He is far too lazy for that.
Guilt has set in - I am going to do a bit of tidying (i.e. clear a path to kitchen and bathroom).
enjoy. :)
The name Eva always reminds me of Uncle Tom's Cabin. Probably because I have seen "The King And I" about 50 times.
Morning all. May I please have any of the op's? Thanks.
the famous orange kitty is in here!!
garfield?
you need a way to op8,75 doing the grid.
nope, the one who is in the ad for cat food! Mo6/21
Or shall I say was in ad.
oh :-)
and its plural
Thanks so much, mixi6 and ruru.
ze4 - many zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Not awake enough to concentrate....thanks for the help....be back later.
too *****ous in your partying gape?
Many zzzzzz if you are Canadian or British
9s and 10- British spellings. But one of the plurals works with the American spelling, and not the Brit.
Isn't that weird Kap?
Phantom ri*** mortis
Gruesome
ri*** is a word
ooo i dont understand the many zzzzz clue lol
and im british!!!
frogface -- what do the english call the letter Z? make it plural.
Plural of the letter z the way British and Canadian people say it.
oh now im with ya lol ty
th6?
TH + upper limb with an extra vowel thrown in
ty Eva
I use that word all the time, don't you? : P
totally
It annoys me when there is a word in the grid and you look up the definition and there is none.
Oh gross. It's intestine used for haggis.
lol Molly
I agree. all words should have a definition!
za5?
African region
Oops, sorry. za + Mama *** a song and movie
ty molly. my internet is locking up again. boo hoo.
as 6/33 anyone?
as + large and small are ****s
thank you...was all around it.
de8 I can't find either
denigrate
de8 - mkg will treat the inclusion of some of these words with de8.
thank you haz, excellent clue
thank you
missed it completely
as6 - to give a job to someone and as8 -the one who gives.
si6,21?
You're welcome.
i'd missed the as8, ty haz
got the si6 from it too :)
an si6 that is
si6/21 - si plus the controlling tidal orb.
ty Haz
tough grid today
You're welcome, mixi.
It's a bit of a workout, science, you're right.
and you forgot to mention that this morning Haz when we were chatting!
Hello all.
Hi Mitch
Hello, FM. I knew you'd rise to the test.
Hi mix
hello, FM, SG, mixi
hello hello :)
Ha off to the PB with you
Entrapment, pure and simple.
Ata!! Hi dc.
to 7
i'll laugh the day that entrapment is actually in the grid
dont' have it geek.
Sally used you as a clue earlier today Ata
to7 - same structure as ta7/36 which rhymes with Danny, Ch****** of the world.
*smug*
Or a male cat, a vegetable sounding letter and a charged particle (to7)
ty gees
dont' have ta7 either.
don't be sumg ata
whaaaa
*smug* oops
It's in Ata's DNA to be smug.
Ata is always smug science ;)
why not!!
Well, I am leaving for now. I cannot do this! see you later maybe
As LoriP would say it is a poopy grid.
ty for TA7 and TO7
Bye, science.
hasta, science
You're welcome, dc.
There's also ta7/36 - a spectacle or entertainment in East Indies. Sing out if you need more.
Hadn't realised quite how foggy it was when I went out this morning and it was drizzling most of the day.
everyone should know that
Well, yes, but it might not just spring to mind.
do you mean an additional ta7.36 from the one i found, haz?
Yes! This is right at the start of the ta words.
oh, i love lightly drizzly foggy days :) nothing says Christmas quite like that type of weather
ta plus a culinary treatment of potatoes, finish with a vowel.
this is the easier one
Not so much fun when you can't see too far in front of you when driving.
oh, that's a new one to me, ty again, haz
but it was an adventure.
glad you survived the adventure, FM
You're welcome, dc.
ta6,21?
bbs, need to tend to the pot on the stove, and i think i'll throw a load of towels in the washer, too.
ta6/21 - to make lace for three, then the ending of the city in Florida Mi***.
ty fireworks. Happy Birthday to me!!!!!!!
Oh double contrats mix!
Happy Birthday Mixi!
Well done, mixi and Happy Birthday.
Happy Birthday Mixi! Are you doing anything fun today to celebrate?
dinner time yay! TTFN
Enjoy your meal, FM.
I bet she's really off to bury someone else under the patio
Or cook up some poison.
HI all.......lol....been watching the chat...its funny!
We're on4/4 her now.
absolutely
Hello, Flask.
clue please for to4/4 right after the 5/10 please?
It ends in a double consonant.
...and ma4/5.....right after the potatoes please?
ma4/5 - as conducted by a priest
thought that was in already!
2 of the same type words!!!
Sometimes words don't 'take' for some reason.
si 6/21?
thanx Haz!
si6/21 - like Mr Cowell but with more vowels than normal.
thank you
weird
word
No problem.
god.. some of these are hard to find
it#s a wind, isn't it?
Yes, from North Africa.
At least that means that the ta7 won't be disturbed by the blowing of the si6/21.
absolutely
not would a pile of am7 ta6s
okay.. I give up.. the first ta 7?
That's your East Indian spectacle. ta plus what you do to potatoes and finish with a vowel. (not fry)
or peel!!!
Or roast.
or roast!
Or rice
or dauphinoise
Or croquette
clue for the last ta word please?
Or bake
or lyonnaise
ta6 - to make lace (3) then Mi***, Florida.
there. back.
ty Haz!
You're welcome, Flask.
Right, must head off to get ready to go out. Husband gave me the choice of him cooking or us going out. Guess which I chose?
thanks again haz..it is actually in a2z
bye haz.. thank you
It's in morewords as well, ruru, that's how I found it.
you're going shopping to make dinner at home?
Toodle-oo!
just a guess
We're eating out. To save him any trouble, you understand. I'm so understanding.
*gone*
enjoy, haz
sh6/39 please?
what, no Shazam!
nope!
Flask, that must be an extra Lickety word, bc my bottom S is greyed, and I don't have an sh6.39
hi Babblers, popping in to find my final 10
yes, shazam is in new ENABLE, but not the version used by Babble
hi, flask and aloy :)
what is ENABLE ?
hi dcs (-:
Enable is the dictionary, wvt.. the resource
tho some call it disabled, lol
ENABLE is the free dictionary that Babble, and some scrabble sites, etc, use
Jillibus has an apt description of it in her profile
thanx for that info Aloy!
thnx for the information
wish this site used SOWPODS
I have learned that a US dictionary is more inclusive :)
a friend and i used to play scrabble with the OED as reference. Great words in there, like qhat, qhen
Aloy made me look up SOWPODS
really? ah, I see what you mean.. I'm just used to the Scrabble dictionary..
and sometimes when I play word games on FB, messes me up bc they use "illegal" scrabble words
I'm not sure, but I think my niece may have the Scrabble dictionary memorized. She sure has an arsenal of impressive words at her fingertips.
SOWPODS is a good dictionary, i agree
so many new words developing related to technology
bunch of newbies (to me) in this grid.. hope I can remember them.. finito here.. anyone need a clue?
congrats, aloy
Aloy, do you know what the word is for that space?
what space, Flask?
the S word?
oh, yes.. shazam
just not "accepted" yet
its not taking it tho'
no, it won't
but that is ok
you will still get fireworks without it
but am not!
tis an extra Lickety word.. h'mm, double check, Flask.. or reboot?
i mean, refresh
gheez, ms. techno here, lol
no difference at all......done the whole grid for nothing....soooo annoying!!
no, no, no... I would write to Dr. G.. he will fix it
.. and congrats to you for finishing!
have to scoot now.. will check back with you next time, Flask - you deserve the credit for finishing; I'm sure Dr. G will make certain you get it or be able to tell you what the problem is.. good luck!
be well, aloy.
and shazam is not needed for fireworks -- Babble uses older ENABLE than Lickety.
although it would be a rather appropriate last word to get fireworks.
good afternoon / evening everyone
Hey Mom
((Molly)) hello
it would indeed, LA, welcome to you and Mom and Molly
Hello Seain. How was the job interview?
did not get in person, alas :)
oh dear, hopefully something will turn up soon
thank you
:-)
ooohh, the 9 Lives cat is in the grid
yes, it's a type of English Country Dance, and plurals
thanks for the plural Seain, would never have gotten that one
apparently it's a type of pike also
hmmmm
Great. Let's all mo6/21 around the Maypole. : D
or mo 6/21 around the mo 6/21
hello again friends. just here for a quick lunch babble, but delighted to see so many friends in the chog
Hi Trif

the indian ruler
school as6ment

as6 is often pluralized -- the regulation of weights and measures of articles offered for sale
or as6 a task, and as8 - one who as6s the task

back to the world of fur huh
our first pet EVER!
So far she has pretty short hair, but yes, fur again
it still comes off
so true...
specially the black stuff
short hair does not embed into fabrics like long does, though
that is something, anyway
no it just drapes itself across everything
nap time. ((Hugs)) to all of you!
well congrats! I'm sure the family is loving her
hello all.
bye mom hi red

*stomps on rug trying to obliterate the fake clue*

Ah, got it, no 6, it was a 5 & a 7! Thanks jmc.
Hi all
*meekly* yw

Haz and Ata are both in the grid today
Could someone please clue me the top left R for NBT
Hi JMC
lasso, Reader
Still no A for the 4th row, I am just passed halfway, and I want to go to bed with NBT.
an indian dish of yoghurt and cucumber

sorry mich i am still looking for that one too
lasso has an e in it I think
argh! Thank you - large fish here
one of my all time favorite dishes -- i make it all summer long with a little cumin it is heaven
I was right, lasso or lariat, spelled with an i or an e
it may also be an indian but not in the definition here
how very odd peri
98 left, would someone like to volunteer to finish the grid for me :)
An A is AS 6/24

Hello everybody :-)
hi soodle
zhat
Hiya Temple :-). How you doing?
i am well and you?
His Soodle, flood all cleaned up
bl
oh no, bichon, what happened?
Oh no A flood!
Hi Bichon. Dehumidifiers going 24/7! Could have been worse.
Hello Red, Peri et all..
hi soodle, did you have a nice , if wet holiday?
this does not sound good.
no, not my flood, Soodles. I'm assuming it was frozen pipes
I have had better..... 3 floods in 4 days.... all down to frozen pipes. But, heck.. thats why I pay insurance, no?
Soodle, is it extra chilly? How unpleasant.
Red - unprecedcented cold round tese here parts. Lowest temps since records began.... ou
Even more unpleasant, glad your heating is ok?
Yup... heating all working again, but its been a damp and dreary holiday!!
Sorry - me and my 'cold' problems ave been monopolising the chat for days.... Hows
let's hope this means you will leave 2010 troubles behind
everybody else doing?
((((((TO))))) Onwards and upwards!
Anybody on babble affected by the dreadful snow storms on the east coast of the US?
ok. time to get a move on. i have christmas shopping to do. even if a minimum to go with gift ards
Thinking of you, Temple Owl..(((())))
ty soodle.
*raises hand*
we got it where I am for Christmas, Soodle, but it seems to have been quickly handled.
High Five!!
the traffic is awful today, all those pent up gift cards from yesterday.
Jeepers, looking at the TV News, it was pretty awful....
the wind was brutal. elizabeth nj had over 30 inches
It was amazing when it was happeneing, the house actually shook in the wind, 55 MPH winds....but now its cleared and people can get round.
((((If i was in a flippant mood, I might be tempted to say 'Lucky old Elizabeth', but that would just be school-boy humour....)
And I am neither a school boy nor humoursome, so I will refrain......
:)
Red, seriously, it must have been terrifying?
!
as long as the heat/electric holds, it is bearable
well , i cannot think of another single word. will save the rest for tonight.
Stay warm, TO. My flippancy was in no way intended to cause you more pain. Just my weird sense of humour. (((())))
no, no, no worries.
actually took me a minute
((((()))))
hope the cold abates soon. we are thawing through the weekend. all that runoff...
Temps here have gone up to 8 degrees. Positively balmy!
yikes!
I had to restrain myself from donning my bikini and lying spreadeagled in the back garden ..... not!
just try to hang on, soods. catch you later.
Temple Owl, Red, and assorted lurkers, I have to go. Stay warm and well and happy. Poof
i'm looking for at 5/12. I have at + to tear.

hi babblers.........
howdy everyone;) back for a few more words;)
hiya Riverdance. How's everything been going?
howdy ormal
hi crossy. How have you been?
not too bad.had my computer die and had to build a temp replacement from old parts.it works, but i miss my old rig..sniff...
first as6?
awww, sorry to hear that. I moved into a new home and was unable to get anyone to hook up internet to my house for 1 month - said they didn't offer services.
nm, found it
Whew. Had left the phones at home. Was scared when i realized they were missing.
Hey, Shrilock, Ormal, crossy, et al
Hi all. Where does one find Enable list or book or whatever it is??
hi, pcal. email licketysplitaus, link for that on Lickety's babble clues, below the grid
thanks much!
may the new machine serve you well, crossy
one month no internet?? now that is scary!
so complaining works, i complained on American Airlines about the mess that happened because of the blizzard
and they gave me a $100 voucher!
it is just a temporary fill in dc,it is a mix of parts from 2 old dead machines and a spare parts box i keep..lol frenkenputer
frankenpuyer*
dammit
i hate this old keyboard as well
well done shirloc!
so spoiled in the internet age, I felt like I was in some weird episode of the Twilight Zone.
well it's ridiculous, they had an empty plane ready to go here in Toronto to fly to NYC -- only needed to wait until the airport reopened and they cancelled
hiya back dc. wtg shirlock!
i was restrained in my complaint :)
American has been WAY overly cautious through the snow. They even cancelled flights to BWD, DCA, and IAD, and we got only flurries with less than an inch of accumulation, that blew away within a few hours.
er, BWI, not BWD
i have not flown(commercially) in years and it seems i am better off lol
wind is a problem, which i get but if i'm supposed to be at the airport 2 hours before my flight, what's the point of canceling > 1 hour before flight time? esp. if even i know the airports were closed
sorry, < 1hour
i have hot air balooned, used a float plane, done tours in bi0planes for photo shoots but that has been it for the last few years
i wouldn't have gone to the airport at all if they didn't keep saying that the flight was still going
now that is not good form ,i agree shirloc
when the airlines stranded my two children (unaccompanied minors program) in Germany due to a mistake on the airlines' part, then got them on another plane a few days later after much argument, then forgot to fill in the customs forms for the kids - which scared my kids to death because they thought they couldn't come home because they had been to their Oma's farm, I did not get even so much as an apology for my kids!
that's awful ormal!
terrible indeed ormal
some people are really incompetent at their jobs
speaking of annoyances,i am fighting with a few of the dr,s we use on a regular basis.seem all of them conspire to call me one hour after i have missed an appt, just to tell me i have missed an appt>i say "would it not be more usefull to call 2 hours before and remind me of the appt,so that it is not missed?"
and sometimes, it really is luck of the draw when it comes to service
but the kids made it home safely, if a few days late, which was the important part.
lol, oh crossy if only common sense were so common.
I MEAN WHY CALL JUST TO TELL ME I MISSED IT/?? headesk
My doctors here all call a day or two before my appointment to make sure i remember. How rude of yours, crossy.
lol crossy
your dr,s office crew are smart then
i meant ALL of them, MD, dentist, optometrist...
hello, folks, sorry to hear about all your troubles with airports, etc. and annoyances with doctors -
crossy guess what? my computer just finished a 2000 protein
hi, JBV
but crossy if you want to laugh, think about my most recent "annoyance" with the car insurance company - did you hear?
cool, wild!
it was
doing a "baby" 250 now
hi seain
i've not hear, JBV. what happened?
just a minor outrage, seain, the kind that makes you either laugh or cry - I reported my husband's death to the car insurance company and they sent me a bill for $46 - it seems he was getting a Senior Discount which has now been removed!!
oooh it's an alzheimer's one
oh no jb
how insensitive
OMG, that's ridiculous jbv
I also received a customer satisfaction survey from the hospital where he passed away
really. does no one read the chart?
thank god I have some inner resources to deal with all this crap (oops, excuse me, did I say that?)
exactly, wild
you're allowed jb cuz that's exactly what it is
I remember when my father died, stupid shit like that all the time. My mom's phone is still in his name, 25 years later because the wanted a deposit to change the name.
wow
so, i wish you luck sorting through such things.
thanks, and it seems you lost your father at an early age - so sorry to hear that
i was 15 and my sister was 12, he was 41, and thank you.
you been doing well?
too young for all of you. Yes, thanks, seain - I have my husband's example to look up to - he was a fighter til the end, never backed down from a challenge, and always looked forward to the future
so I had a good teacher
"tentar al futuro con el corazón" is roughly 'reach tactilely to the future with the heart' and is excellent advice
he used to say "Sempre pa'lante!" very Puerto Rican
:) indeed
hey all. Sad chog.
sorry, that was the cat. Feldspar purrs at all yall
hiya, science.
we didn't mean to hijack it
no problem. I could add to it, but will refrain. Actually, I cannot get into this grid today. Too hard
what is it about cats and keyboards?
it's equivalent to laying on the newspaper, i think, Shirl
same Q what is it about cats and anything that i'm doing? rhetorical :)
hi science - we weren't sad, just philosophical
they took the 45 dollars back? omg
I had to write a check, crossy!
i would of paid them in monthly installments of 5 dollars lol
I wish I had thought of that!
just coming back in - what a ridiculous thing to do to you JBV
seriously, jbv? you had to pay them?
Hello
of course she did ... a policy is a policy
I know - everyone says the same thing
it's not about the people involved
I'll bet they would've cancelled you if you didn't pay
I probably should never have called to report it
they didn't really need to know
you did the right thing .. they didn't
i don't get how removing him should make the discount not apply retroactively, I'd contact the state insurance reculator
remember..we are just a number...lol
I thought I might be due a refund, but they said, no, the premium is not based on the number of drivers, but on the number of cars
it's a combination of both jbv
you know that's right, seain, I did not think of that - they should have at least prorated it - ok, more homework for me
in the business i run or have ran,i try to treat people like people, not a number,ir a statistic, and when you call my business, you get a real person, everytime and my help support is not in tibet or india lol
what was the biz, crossy?
probably why i go broke, but you have to treat people correctly
i am running a service station and have ran a bar and a motel in the past
evening all my peeps.... jbv so sorry to hear you are going through a rough time *hugs*
JBV, I'm sorry to hear about what you've been dealing with today. I've been dealing with similar things, and I would suggest that you always call, and ask to speak to a supervisor.
good advice, Molly :)
((lilm))
evening, lil*m
{{{ cwossy }}}
ok, team, you've given me good advice - I'll give you a progress report after my next go-around with the evil car insurance people :)
and i dream of getting a used book store going as well but we shall see
hi dcseain!
Oh Cross, you would be SUPERB owning a book store. I'll dream that for you too.
used and collectable hardcovers for gift giving as well as an artists nook with all manner of art supplies and i shall provide space for local artists to display their wares on consignment

yep, can see it now
the 'Skins won? huh.
soothing music,a few of those serenty fountains placed here and there and a shop cat named "itallics"
i always thought it would be cute to call a bookstore "BookMark" ... esp if your name is Mark
et and al if you have more than one cat

njoy, monkey
two people i know are quitting. One is 7 weeks without, other is planning to stop on Friday.
Peri, I'm amazed that more people are not turning to alternative medicine with insurance being the way it is.
as far as I know insurance does not pay for Reiki but it may pay for massage
even alternative medicine can be cost-prohibitive to some folks
hi all, and shazam!
dc, what are you talking about? quitting what?
shazam, salami and baloney, gwen :)
I offer discounts to senior citizens and those who are homebound
i play another online boggle (wordsplay.net) and that one takes shazam

Wordsplay also takes tiar.
oh, i play 5x5. 4x4 is just not that fun
goa wae?
I quit 14yrs ago
How many words are there
Quit cigarettes or Boggle? I quit cigarettes in 1987.
195 words.
haven't quit either one. but then i don't smoke lol
I got a great xmas pressie from my dau...
best advise I can give is: find something or someone more important to you then a cigarette and keep a diary.
love boggle
...now just need to find people to play it with me...
you can play online too
My dau found Big Boggle online and ordered it for me!
What is Big Boggle?
no one will play boggle with me any more cuz i cream everyone mercilessly (evil laugh)
love big boggle
That's what I need- another form of Boggle to play.
big boggle is 5x5
Boggle = 4x4 grid game; Big Boggle = 5x5
You can still buy regular Boggle in the stores...but not Big Boggle...
it's a commercial board game, which this game is based on
Playing it manually is so slow.
...makes me wonder why...don't people use 'big' words anymore or are we that much into textese that people just don't know how to spell anymore...
Writing with a pen.
Idky. Do u?
either ta7 pls
if it sold well they would keep making it. i wouldn't read anything sinister into that
that's just it, Kappy...none of your words were over 4 letters!
ta + you ***** da patata
ta+ ****ed potato (pulverised) + 1st vowel
:)
I don't much, gwen...but it is nice to have a good game with people sitting across from you...along with some munchies and assorted beverages...
ta + not negligees, but lightweight che*****
I have one I cant find and feel like I am going to be fished, but here goes. second ai4 please
I'd play with you Pin if we lived closer, I miss board games
How quaint. Live people? Doesn't that spread germs?
ta + rhymes with queen song "we are the cha*****s"
pini, yes, i agree. something i don't get to do much
Peri, do it by skype
* giggle * Kappy...too funny!
Don't be putting on ai**, Sue.
ty for that ta7, new word for me as was the to7
i used to play scrabble competitively ... i'd suck wind at it today
duhhhhhh
I don't have the game or skype
ty for the ta7s, peri!
I am not good at scrabble tho
wait, isnt that the first ai4
funny comments about American English dialects in the comments: http://tinyurl.com/2eg6l7l
Oh. Let me look.
ack, i mean gortmold, ty!
you can download skype and all you need is a pair of dice
(change the last letter, sue)
ty gort
Change the last letter. It's a babble word.
I like skype...another way to connect with others when you can't connect in person...
you're all welcome
I also need a camera which I do not have
skype? dice? did I miss something?
my theory is that scrabble is actually based on anagrams, which boil down to math. we who are good at boggle and not good at scrabble prove that scrabble is not really a word game
I want skype, then I can see other babblers!
hear, hear, Gwen
you can skype without cameras, too, peri ;)
i have skype i like it alot
or is it here here?
think you've got a point there book, scrabble's all about strategic placement
Interesting theory BDG. I thought I am better at Boggle because I am basically a monkey.
you can, Pini?
of course, peri...
yes you can peri
<-- camera shy! :)
im not pini but knew the answer to something lol
my former roommate, a puter geek who can barely spell or write with a pen, i can cream him at boggle, but he can cream me at scrabble
i do skype alot with out cam
Sudoku isn't supposed to be really about numbers, but I can't do anything that APPEARS to me numerical.
whenever I play scrabble in person or on line, I like to spread my letters and words out and then someone comes along and puts two letters and messes up the board
the only thing skype requires is a computer (you can type a conversation, voice a conversation, and/or video a conversation)
good googgly mooggly
sudoku looks like numbers to me and I do not play
Same here.
really, and it is free right, Pini
yes, peri...very free
nope, no interest in sudoku here either.
why not just use IM then
if you want to try it, I can find the d/l link for you...and you can use me as a 'test' if you like
skype works better in my opinion
is very free like being a little pregnant?
was called to dindin, did someone clue the th6? or the to7?
Sort of dead.
that's it, peri! LOL
Must go nourish myself.
yse pls, Pini. but I still want a camera so I can see the other person. they are not too expensive and I may treat myself
yse pls, Pini. but I still want a camera so I can see the other person. they are not too expensive and I may treat myself

yse pls, Pini. but I still want a camera so I can see the other person. they are not too expensive and I may treat myself
trying very hard to ignore the praline and chocolate call
so sorry
not too expensive at all...(brb - getting link)
peri, go to big lots, they have cam and mic for $15
or www.dealextream.com
need to find one near me, sue, ty
or if you have a phone you can use that
http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/get-sk ype/on-your-computer/windows/
www.dealextreme.com
ooh, found the tenner
thanks PIni, will look into it later
hey, i use skype. completely stopped using the phone for all outgoing calls. because ATT sucks, that's why.
ty sue
I don't have a house phone anymore...it's either my cell or skype
np peri
I have heard it is always good to have a landline tho
like in a power outage
but the kids moved out and I'm out/about
i opted out of landline a decade ago.
really, any problems, dc?
what do you use, cell?
I haven't had my landline in about 6-7 years now
so far, so good. i have two cells, one on Sprint and one on AT&T. Sprint i use for voice and some data, the other only for texting and data
yes, i'm keeping a landline. no way am i giving that up. too many issues with cell phones
but you need a landline for your computer
my computer is thru my cable service and or wi-fi
ok
I have a satelllite dish on the roof and a radio signal for my internet now
nope, computer uses cable modem. and even with FIOS, the assign number, but you don't have to have phone service to get TV or Internet from them.
it's pretty amazing how far technology moves...
what i really love is getting a new printer (or whatever) and speding 4 hours with their idiot "tech support" people. GRRRRRR
perhaps you should work with one of use here, gwen...might reduce the process to 1-2 hours! :)
did not know that dc
well, i don't call "tech support" unless i've already tried everything else!
;)
with FIOS, at least here, it's cheaper to get the phone line, even if you won't use it.
in fact, someone here helped me with weird puter thing only a few weeks ago. i could not resize something becase the taskbar was actually covering it
oh, the famous minimized and/or offscreen window. Ah, windoze
that's cool, gwen! nice to know there are brilliant people around here!
now now, dc...
please tell me why they keep redesigning Windows instead of actually fixing it LOL
Win and Apple both have their shortcomings. I happen, by and large, to find Windows shortcomings more annoying
that's the question that will probably never be answered, gwen
windows shortcomings are 10x worse than apple! (i only use windows because i do a lot of file sharing)
although I've used MAC in the past, I still prefer my PC...
and my new phamtom is amortize
crepe, i mean phantom
I don't know enough about computer to realize windows has shortcomings
I like crepes!
me too Pini
tired of this grid
help with re6/18 pls
meant ri6/18 pls
Nm stupid plural
Apparently, I've not had bad experiences with my PC to want to convert to MAC
ri6/24 then pls
I don't have either one, peri
you lucky pini!
ri6.24 is a plural of difficulties
well, i'm getting hungry and gonna stop here. 72 to go. bye bye and POINK
* knock on wood * gwen...been on PCs since 1982
have a good evening, gwen! :)
don;'t have the ri6, will look
ri6.18 is plural of ri5.10 -- sort of like yacht race
thx! :)
the ri6.24 of climbing a mountain -- travails, difficulties
need the ri6/24 and the 5 before it, looking
found them
same here, peri
32 left, bbs

lol, amazing where chit chats lead,i came across a line on the computer about 'watership down" and the wife says she never heard of or read it!! so of course i had to goodle it which in turn lead to the song they play on that movie called "bright eyes" by art Garfunkel ,whom she did not know had any sort of carear after Simon and garfunkel, which he did..but anyways enough of my typos.just want to share this song with you and those who may have forgotten it....
